Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily Abadi here coming to you from the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Age Studio. You are listening to another installment of Five
- 0:28Speaker 1: Minute Friday from hurdle Man. I am here to exhale
- 0:34Speaker 1: and tell you that this week I started living my life.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I say that like in jest, but honestly it's true.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I have.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It's no secret if you've been listening to the show,
- 0:44Speaker 1: if you've been following me on social media. I have
- 0:46Speaker 1: just been navigating a lot over the last few weeks, months,
- 0:51Speaker 1: a little over a month now, and just feeling some
- 0:54Speaker 1: kind of way about being in this season of transition.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And it really just started to get to me that
- 1:03Speaker 1: I was letting my anxiety and fear.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Over what is going on with our world and the pandemic,
- 1:10Speaker 2: like letting this fear just completely dominate my being.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And I kept saying things like, well, after I go
- 1:19Speaker 1: do this thing, then I'm going to live my life.
- 1:21Speaker 1: After I go do this thing, I'll go live my life.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Like there were certain benchmark activities like going to dinner
- 1:27Speaker 1: at eleven Madison Park, and like taking a certain trip
- 1:30Speaker 1: or seeing certain family and Christmas and being careful with that,
- 1:34Speaker 1: Like I kept going through all of these moments where
- 1:37Speaker 1: I knew that I didn't want to have COVID for
- 1:41Speaker 1: that moment, and so I would just completely isolate myself.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And finally after going to eleven Madison Park, God, when
- 1:51Speaker 1: was this over a week and a half ago.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Now, I made the decision that I was going to
- 1:56Speaker 2: live my life.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And I'm laughing because if you're on TikTok or maybe
- 2:00Speaker 1: even just Instagram reels, you've probably heard that Kardashian reel
- 2:03Speaker 1: that it's just them being like, I just love living
- 2:06Speaker 1: my life, and it's Courtney and Kim and Chloe and
- 2:09Speaker 1: they're all saying this all the time. I digress, So
- 2:12Speaker 1: what does living my life look like? Honestly, it's me
- 2:15Speaker 1: just making plans. And I'm not saying that I'm like
- 2:18Speaker 1: excellent at going to stand in the middle of a
- 2:21Speaker 1: crowded bar or do I really like have the desire
- 2:24Speaker 1: to go do that.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think that my anxiety would arrest me a little
- 2:28Speaker 2: bit in that situation. So no, I'm not running to
- 2:30Speaker 2: go do that.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But I am making plans like I'm making plans to
- 2:34Speaker 1: go to brunch with a girlfriend and not make myself
- 2:36Speaker 1: sit outside in the freezing cold.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'm making plans too.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm going to see a Broadway show tonight, I am
- 2:44Speaker 1: having dinner at my friend's apartment tomorrow, and I'm going
- 2:48Speaker 1: to keep being responsible and I go get tested once
- 2:51Speaker 1: a week. And this is just the life that I
- 2:53Speaker 1: have decided to live because I could not do it anymore.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I do the best I can to take care of
- 3:01Speaker 1: myself and be as cautious as possible and mask up
- 3:05Speaker 1: and whatever. And everybody's different, but for so long I
- 3:08Speaker 1: was so isolated.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm just done with it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And it's really invigorating. It's really exciting. I feel just
- 3:17Speaker 1: I needed this. And I think that over the past
- 3:21Speaker 1: couple of years, as we've been dealing with this, that
- 3:23Speaker 1: so many of us have had these conversations about like
- 3:26Speaker 1: kind of the worse or evil right, And I was
- 3:29Speaker 1: at a point where my mental health was struggling so
- 3:31Speaker 1: much because of the choices that I was making based
- 3:34Speaker 1: on my anxiety that I needed to work on it
- 3:37Speaker 1: and I needed to make a shift.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And so I'm shifting and I am here.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm here to announce it on five minute Friday, not
- 3:44Speaker 1: like in this boisterous way. And again, like I totally
- 3:47Speaker 1: respect so much everyone's decision on how they want to
- 3:51Speaker 1: execute it this time. And I think that's a really
- 3:53Speaker 1: important note, right. We need to carry on with like
- 3:57Speaker 1: an understanding that everyone needs to handle how they want
- 4:00Speaker 1: to go about their life, just like in all things
- 4:03Speaker 1: in life, with like how they want to go on
- 4:05Speaker 1: with life. And your decisions might be different than my decisions,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but I'm not going to stand here and give you
- 4:11Speaker 1: flack for it. I'm just gonna choose to take responsibility
- 4:15Speaker 1: over my own actions.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Big exhal.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I definitely do still have like a fair amount of anxiety.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And the people at my local clinic that I go
- 4:24Speaker 1: to to get like my PCR rapid tests, they know
- 4:28Speaker 1: me my first name.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Now, So this is just this is just where we're at.
- 4:33Speaker 2: My prompter for.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You this week, I'm like laughing. I feel like I
- 4:37Speaker 1: just rambled about COVID for five minutes. I don't know
- 4:39Speaker 1: if anybody actually cares. But my prompter for you this week,
- 4:42Speaker 1: which is kind of related but maybe not so much related.
- 4:44Speaker 1: What are you looking forward to in the next two months?
- 4:49Speaker 1: You know, for so long I was living my life
- 4:50Speaker 1: just thinking about the things that I was looking forward
- 4:53Speaker 1: to and the things that I was looking forward to
- 4:54Speaker 1: and being like, just be careful until this thing, like
- 4:56Speaker 1: I said, and now like I want to be better
- 4:59Speaker 1: about just like looking forward to smaller moments, looking forward
- 5:02Speaker 1: to simpler pleasures and more joy and amplifying that. So
- 5:07Speaker 1: what are you looking forward to in the next two months?
- 5:10Speaker 1: And now listener question, Hey.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Emily, this is Annie from Minnesota. Okay, kind of a
- 5:17Speaker 3: fun question. Are you a person that has the same
- 5:22Speaker 3: breakfast every morning or do you change it up? And
- 5:25Speaker 3: if so, what is your staple breakfast? Thanks so much,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I have a great day.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Bye Annie from Minnesota. Hi Annie, it's good to hear
- 5:34Speaker 2: from you.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I don't have the same breakfast all the time, but
- 5:37Speaker 1: I do have a few go tos. These include a
- 5:40Speaker 1: bowl of oatmeal with a teaspoon of peanut butter, teaspoon
- 5:44Speaker 1: of jelly, and sliced banana. I am in this groove
- 5:47Speaker 1: lately where I'm making omelets, so I'll do a two
- 5:49Speaker 1: egg omelet with a sash splash of almond milk, and
- 5:52Speaker 1: the panels I'll take like a.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Bunch of veggies.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So my go tos lately has been an omelet with
- 5:58Speaker 1: peas odd I know, mushrooms.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Onion.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I feel like there's something oh cherry tomatoes, and then
- 6:06Speaker 1: once that all saute is up, I'll throw in a
- 6:08Speaker 1: large heaping amount of arugula and I'll stir fry all
- 6:11Speaker 1: of that or saute all of that.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Until the arugola goes down to like nothing, and then
- 6:17Speaker 2: I will put.
- 6:18Speaker 1: The eggs in there and make an omelet, and I
- 6:19Speaker 1: won't put any cheese in it, but I'll fold it over.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And then i'll put those little jlapenos that you buy
- 6:23Speaker 1: from Trader Joe's, the pickled ones on top and chef's
- 6:26Speaker 1: kiss it is zibbist and then more of a summer breakfast.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But I have been kind of indulging in this lately.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm also a big Greek yogurt person, so I'll do
- 6:35Speaker 1: Greek yogurt serving with just fruits on it. I love
- 6:38Speaker 1: putting a little mint on if I have that in
- 6:40Speaker 1: the home, which is a rare occasion, but a delightful one,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and then like a quarter cup of granola on top.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I usually like make breakfast while I'm simultanous tiniously simultaneously
- 6:51Speaker 1: drinking Athletic Greens.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Ag one from Athletic Greens. I'll put a link in
- 6:54Speaker 2: the show.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Note if you want to get in on the ag
- 6:56Speaker 1: one gang, but I usually do them simultaneously, and that's it.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Of course. Also coffee.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I drink an espresso first thing in the morning when
- 7:04Speaker 1: I wake up, and then I'll make some more, maybe
- 7:06Speaker 1: a pour over when I'm ready to get started.
- 7:09Speaker 2: With work for today. But that's my whole breakfast stick.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I hope you're all in Lange, and I'm always looking
- 7:15Speaker 1: for fun new recipes and stuff.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So if you have a go to breakfast, I would
- 7:18Speaker 2: love to.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Hear about it. And I'd also love your questions. I really,
- 7:21Speaker 1: really I love your questions and I want to answer
- 7:23Speaker 1: more of them. So if you're thinking right now that
- 7:25Speaker 1: you have a question about anything, anything from relationships to sleep,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I want to answer it. There's a link in the
- 7:34Speaker 1: show notes that says leave me a voice message. Head
- 7:36Speaker 1: on in there click there, leave me a voice message
