- 1:04Speaker 2: know you were struggling with the name. Damn bro, you.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Gotta say all that you was.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I thought that was the Ferrari.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Now you know, it's saw that one or two at
- 1:20Speaker 3: and he said, Ferrari, your name is Ferrari.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, because I said, I said, because you really want
- 1:25Speaker 2: to go fast. So it was a method. He was
- 1:30Speaker 2: slow down. Yeah, I was like, you gotta get down
- 1:33Speaker 2: in the crowd and talk to people. And even if
- 1:35Speaker 2: she a fat girl, talked to her, you know whatever,
- 1:37Speaker 2: like just talk to be a people person all around.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I think they started it.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Uh, there was a problem and I'll never forget. We
- 1:45Speaker 3: was at Follies and instead of Sean Simmons, he said,
- 1:49Speaker 3: he told.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Man, it was like, I like that name, that's that's
- 1:53Speaker 1: your name.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I said, damn right, that's my name. I never changed
- 1:55Speaker 3: it after that. Follies, by the.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Way, Damn man, some of the great.
- 2:01Speaker 3: DJ Holliday, the world famous DJ Holliday. I used to
- 2:06Speaker 3: always tell him this funny story. He used to download
- 2:08Speaker 3: all his mixtapes illegally, and yeah, I.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Was definitely doing the same things.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Yep, I don't understand. I don't know how I can
- 2:20Speaker 3: properly introduce this guy. Uh, this is one of my
- 2:24Speaker 3: first major co signs in Atlanta. You know, he took
- 2:29Speaker 3: me under his wing. I was around him for a
- 2:32Speaker 3: very long time. I learned how to do radio him
- 2:34Speaker 3: and sticks alone allowed me to He was doing a
- 2:38Speaker 3: live broadcast, Yeah, live broadcast at Harlem Knights, and he said, man,
- 2:44Speaker 3: just come to the radio STATIONE. I was like, what
- 2:46Speaker 3: I'm gonna do? He was like, we'll figure it out.
- 2:48Speaker 3: And I came to the radio station. This is this
- 2:50Speaker 3: is way back. It's maybe twenty twelve. Damn, I'm dating it.
- 2:54Speaker 3: But and then added me to the commission. A lot
- 2:58Speaker 3: of people don't know about the commission.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Man commission. Yeah, commission was at one point.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that was.
- 3:04Speaker 3: That was like you want you want to got my commission?
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah? You was pressing.
- 3:12Speaker 1: One time for Jay Rock.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah. But I think I don't know what we took
- 3:16Speaker 2: a blow. I think after COVID, Yeah, and I think
- 3:20Speaker 2: you know, everybody, everybody and the DJ world got a
- 3:24Speaker 2: little weird and if you really couldn't stand on your
- 3:27Speaker 2: own too, it just some people had It didn't make
- 3:29Speaker 2: sense for me and Sticks, I mean me, Sticks and
- 3:33Speaker 2: Jay Rock to keep pouring into something, you know, and
- 3:36Speaker 2: I and I knew Ferrari with you know, standing alone
- 3:38Speaker 2: by itself and do amazing. Everybody mind you you know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: they're all you know, around doing their own thing, and
- 3:44Speaker 2: we're proud of that. But you know, reward shows, giving
- 3:47Speaker 2: Frank Ski Awards and people like that. It was an
- 3:49Speaker 2: amazing time.
- 3:50Speaker 3: So stop it, man, let let's let's go all the
- 3:52Speaker 3: way back from the East side way in Germany.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Though Germany people don't know you. Was born in Germany,
- 4:00Speaker 2: born in Germany. I was born in Germany because of
- 4:02Speaker 2: my mom. My mom was in the army years I
- 4:05Speaker 2: lived on army basis.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Mom on top of Mama Holiday.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Hey, Mama, Mama Holiday. But now yeah, born in Germany,
- 4:10Speaker 2: raised in Germany. Moved here in the sixth grade. I
- 4:14Speaker 2: think total culture shock. Had to learn how to walk
- 4:17Speaker 2: out y'all, talk like y'all, you know all that stuff.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, stop Holiday. Was a really good football player.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Really good, really good. Got a full athletic scholarship grades.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Wasn't amazing to go to D one for sure, but
- 4:35Speaker 2: uh and I didn't want to go to JUCO. I
- 4:36Speaker 2: wanted to play right then and there, so went to
- 4:38Speaker 2: Fourth Valley State University. Just my coach go Buck Gottfree
- 4:43Speaker 2: Rashaun at Leave's mom Dad, sorry, she he pushed me
- 4:47Speaker 2: in that direction just to go to a HBC you
- 4:49Speaker 2: get that college experience, and you know, just to get
- 4:52Speaker 2: a free ride. My mommy had to pay for something.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I thought that was a big gift, you know, so
- 4:56Speaker 2: to do that now.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But so you started DJing in college?
- 5:00Speaker 4: Uh?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Or was it before I come and call it DJ?
- 5:02Speaker 2: And I had two CD changes and I was putting
- 5:07Speaker 2: CDs in and everybody was coming to my house in
- 5:09Speaker 2: the living room will be packed. Jay rock Can attested
- 5:12Speaker 2: this and we just had a great time. But I
- 5:14Speaker 2: wanted to control the music. That's where the bug started.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Then I found this older cat in Fort Valley and
- 5:21Speaker 2: he taught me how to like blend and scratch and
- 5:23Speaker 2: you know the concept of music and read the crowd
- 5:26Speaker 2: and all that type of stuff. And that's why I
- 5:28Speaker 2: kind of got the bug for it. And I spent
- 5:30Speaker 2: my loan check on some CDJ Now.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I noticed two thousand asked this question, what was your
- 5:42Speaker 3: first DJ name?
- 5:43Speaker 2: Oh? Man, it was almost no, it wasn't. I really
- 5:46Speaker 2: didn't have a name. It was Avery because my last
- 5:49Speaker 2: name was Avery.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But wait, I heard something.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Cat eyes. Why would you bring that up?
- 6:00Speaker 4: Right?
- 6:01Speaker 2: But no, yeah, yeah, it was something. It was no
- 6:06Speaker 2: that was never on a fly. Yeah. Yeah, you can't
- 6:10Speaker 2: find you something nard worship and that's cool, but you know,
- 6:15Speaker 2: it was it never it never stuck. So it was fun.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It was where did Holiday come from?
- 6:21Speaker 2: Holiday came from a lady by the name of U M.
- 6:26Speaker 2: She was the program director at the local radio station
- 6:29Speaker 2: in Fort Valley and I stayed over the holidays and
- 6:32Speaker 2: I used to just DJ all the students in the
- 6:35Speaker 2: party and it was ten twenty people that out of
- 6:37Speaker 2: DJ for them. And I remember when somebody called up
- 6:40Speaker 2: to the radio station was like, oh man, you killed
- 6:43Speaker 2: it last night. Man, what's your what's your DJ name?
- 6:45Speaker 2: And I don't know. She was like, man, you're always
- 6:47Speaker 2: here for the holidays and the holiday thing. I just stuck.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Wow yeah something like that. Yeah. Yeah. So then I
- 6:54Speaker 2: wrote it down, like on a piece of paper. I
- 6:56Speaker 2: journal a lot, and I wrote it and I was like,
- 6:58Speaker 2: DJ Holiday, but the street niggas represent this ship, will
- 7:01Speaker 2: you know? Girls like it? But it had it had
- 7:06Speaker 2: a flow to it. And I remember the first time
- 7:07Speaker 2: I told my partners about it, they was like, it's
- 7:09Speaker 2: all see what you do, but it ain't gonna be
- 7:11Speaker 2: no DJ, no DJ drama though, like that.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Whoa wait, So drama was drama was out before you?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, for sure. Trapper Died was like the Bible
- 7:21Speaker 2: in college, Bro, like that ship was like, I don't know,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I couldn't even explain it. I just thought that she
- 7:27Speaker 2: was the most magical ship in the world outside of
- 7:29Speaker 2: our clue.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I was gonna say Drama had trapper Die, but he
- 7:32Speaker 1: also had dedication, he.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Had Nah, No, I ain't, No, it was trapper Die.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Trapper Die was my my senior year, going into like
- 7:42Speaker 2: moving back and forth to Atlanta, and I just thought
- 7:44Speaker 2: that she was amazing. That BMF area all that stuff.
- 7:47Speaker 2: So you wasn't even out then.
- 7:49Speaker 4: This This is how see, this is how you know
- 7:52Speaker 4: back then you would get music like later on, because
- 7:56Speaker 4: when I was back in Arkansas, it was like DJ
- 7:59Speaker 4: Hall to day, DJ Drama, DJ Scream, like djes was
- 8:04Speaker 4: like the big DJs.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That's that's early. This is early eight oh you know,
- 8:10Speaker 2: six o eight oh seven or eight something like that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Because I remember Bro, I was an intern at the
- 8:15Speaker 2: radio station and I helped put up posters for Jez
- 8:18Speaker 2: that when when they booked GZD comes Gesu had one
- 8:20Speaker 2: record over here. That was it. He came over here
- 8:24Speaker 2: that one record and that club was packing was the
- 8:28Speaker 2: Thursday Thursday so something metal, but it wasn't making Georgia
- 8:37Speaker 2: and that ship was lit and I was like, bro,
- 8:40Speaker 2: this is and I and I was just I got
- 8:42Speaker 2: the book, I want to DJ this, I want to
- 8:44Speaker 2: host this, and I want to be a part of
- 8:46Speaker 2: all this.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Wait wait, wait, you're also in uncharted territory because this
- 8:49Speaker 3: is like new to the genre of hip hop, like
- 8:52Speaker 3: in the South, you know what I'm saying, Like it
- 8:55Speaker 3: was we saw northern representation, West coast representation, even a
- 8:59Speaker 3: little west, but we didn't really see Southern large influential
- 9:05Speaker 3: DJs outside of drama calibning, popping, popping, popping.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yea, and people didn't even know Cali didn't. I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: drama didn't hit like star status all the way there
- 9:15Speaker 2: until like I would say.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I say, when he got arrested.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but then also like them them like them for
- 9:23Speaker 2: Real tapes and and all that type of ship and
- 9:26Speaker 2: them Tia, Like I thought that ship was big, like
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know, and that's when we was like, damn nigga,
- 9:31Speaker 2: like how much you getting in you know, ship like that.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So when the Gucci Man come, Gucci Man.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Was Mike away. Bro, it was like early in between
- 9:41Speaker 2: me like putting out these weird mixtapes that nobody liked.
- 9:45Speaker 2: It was just a whole bunch of songs with popular songs,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and they would giving back to me because it was
- 9:50Speaker 2: just like songs that didn't have exclusives on it, and
- 9:52Speaker 2: they would never put my ship in the front of
- 9:53Speaker 2: the store. So that was my whole idea, just to
- 9:57Speaker 2: get to that position where I could put my CIT's
- 10:00Speaker 2: in the front of the store and everybody would buy them.
- 10:02Speaker 2: So Gucci Man came from you gotta find a dope
- 10:04Speaker 2: ass artist in your city that's gonna support you, but
- 10:08Speaker 2: let you get exclusive songs that people like, by the way,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and put them on a song a CD and tell
- 10:12Speaker 2: them and you know that kind of came with uh theytove.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Okay, thank you man, you got one of the most
- 10:20Speaker 3: You got one of the most influential songs to me
- 10:22Speaker 3: in Gucci's catalog.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Bricks All White Bricks. That's a DJ holiday.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Song and you're talking all on the song with Gucci
- 10:31Speaker 4: mane the beat.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we made that. The house is his basement.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And Yo Gotti on the beat actually is on.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Their to My name was only mentioned on that song
- 10:40Speaker 2: because well, once I got got told, i'n there, So
- 10:44Speaker 2: I'm just I'm getting blunts, I'm getting chicken, I'm getting
- 10:46Speaker 2: whatever these niggas want. And but I'm also flying on
- 10:49Speaker 2: the wall, learning and soaking up. And I tell you
- 10:52Speaker 2: they house man boy, that shit could be it could
- 10:55Speaker 2: be a book about that place. Zay's bottom of his
- 10:57Speaker 2: basement bro zytoven you will see, I mean.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Rock And it's crazy because Heavy in the church.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you know he doesn't. He do his beach. Bro
- 11:10Speaker 2: do his beach. Y'all do whatever y'all want to do,
- 11:12Speaker 2: rap out what you want to wrap about. But he
- 11:14Speaker 2: do them beachs. He played that piano and you know,
- 11:16Speaker 2: he's the coolest, dopest dude ever. But he gave me
- 11:19Speaker 2: opportunity just to be around. And I just I did
- 11:22Speaker 2: whatever I could do. So this whole time I'm playing double.
- 11:24Speaker 2: That's like, hey, Gucci, I do this, I do that.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You gotta have value to these niggas, man. You know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: if you don't have no value, then what are you
- 11:30Speaker 2: going to you know, bring to the table because they
- 11:32Speaker 2: meet everybody every day.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Now, how did that make you feel when when they
- 11:35Speaker 4: when Yo got he said your name on the song.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Uh, well I didn't know it at the time. What
- 11:41Speaker 2: it was gonna be. I just knew. I mean, because
- 11:43Speaker 2: like I said, we're doing a body of work, we're
- 11:44Speaker 2: doing a mixtape. But I remember when he told when
- 11:47Speaker 2: he when he said it, I just happened to be
- 11:49Speaker 2: the nigga standing in front of the booth when he
- 11:51Speaker 2: was in there and I pushed the button because I
- 11:53Speaker 2: was interning at the time. Oh so he saw you, Yeah, yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 2: but he knew who I was because I'm helping. I'm
- 11:58Speaker 2: the nigga that moving around the ship. So when I
- 12:00Speaker 2: pushed the mic, I go, bro, you know, oh, it's
- 12:04Speaker 2: my niggas, all of that, my niggadj holiday keep keep that?
- 12:11Speaker 2: What keep that? And they kept it. And I don't
- 12:14Speaker 2: know what happened in between that, but when the tape
- 12:17Speaker 2: came out, I was like, holy ship. And then I
- 12:20Speaker 2: remember I want to say he was. I think he's
- 12:23Speaker 2: like he moves around with my money bag. Yo, now
- 12:27Speaker 2: t tse somebody Memphis. Man. He called me in. You know.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It was like that ship from Back to the Future.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It was like listen to this and the whole club
- 12:35Speaker 2: was like, DJ, that's hard and I was like, oh ship.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And after that, man, the phone started ringing, and that's
- 12:41Speaker 2: why I really knew the true meaning of a hit
- 12:43Speaker 2: because every DJ called me and was like, broking, I
- 12:45Speaker 2: had that clean? Can I have that without you talking
- 12:47Speaker 2: on it? And I was like, absolutely not, but you
- 12:50Speaker 2: but you got it clean though I gotta clean. I met.
- 12:52Speaker 4: But that's how you know perception is reality because if
- 12:55Speaker 4: you just listen to that, nobody would think you was
- 12:58Speaker 4: in that intern I'm thinking.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Like, that's your song.
- 13:02Speaker 4: You come over here and get on my song.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Preparation, man, preparation, getting ready for the moment. I didn't
- 13:09Speaker 2: know what the moment was. I've been doing this hustling,
- 13:12Speaker 2: bustling ship every day in my life. I wake up
- 13:14Speaker 2: every day do the same thing, work, hustle, connect the dots.
- 13:18Speaker 2: And then it turned into that and that's all I
- 13:20Speaker 2: can say being prepared. But every night I'm going out
- 13:23Speaker 2: me rob everybody. We're going to the club area. We
- 13:26Speaker 2: popping it like we already got a song with my
- 13:27Speaker 2: name on it. So then when you get in a
- 13:29Speaker 2: song with a name on it, it just matched that
- 13:31Speaker 2: intensity of like oh, ship were here, and then you
- 13:35Speaker 2: know we got on the road with it. Everything you're
- 13:37Speaker 2: supposed to do, you just pressed the button pressed No,
- 13:40Speaker 2: I pressed the button, but it's my mixtape.
- 13:44Speaker 4: No no, no, I'm saying, like I know that, but
- 13:47Speaker 4: it's like the way the song came out, like you.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Would have already thought you was like you was this
- 13:53Speaker 2: huge DJ. It was, but not to y'all yet right
- 13:58Speaker 2: in the world of next Tape and shit like that.
- 14:00Speaker 2: So just imagine me getting I'm taking Ea Sports Center
- 14:04Speaker 2: back to that.
- 14:04Speaker 1: That store that told me no I was about to
- 14:06Speaker 1: get there.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And I'm putting that shit in front of the store,
- 14:08Speaker 2: like all right, nigga, there's twelve songs with Gucci Man
- 14:11Speaker 2: and OJ the Juice Man and those people you don't know,
- 14:14Speaker 2: and it's a mind and Zatoven need the beats? All right?
- 14:17Speaker 2: Can my shit stand in front of the store down?
- 14:19Speaker 2: And then fifty copies turned into one hundred copies, A
- 14:22Speaker 2: hundred copies turn in a thousand copies. Next thing, you know, nigga,
- 14:25Speaker 2: I ain't gotta go to the goddamn airport no more
- 14:27Speaker 2: and throw bags on them planes. I ain't got a
- 14:30Speaker 2: motherfucking go be a bellman at Georgia Tech Hotel. These
- 14:33Speaker 2: are my real jobs I had. I ain't gotta sell
- 14:35Speaker 2: we with my cousin no more. It's a rap Nigga.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I made a thousand dollars, a thousand dollars in a day.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I'm making a fifteen hundred a week. And that shit
- 14:47Speaker 2: turned into two grand, and that shit turned the five grand,
- 14:49Speaker 2: and that shit turned into ten thousand. Off of mixtape
- 14:53Speaker 2: Nigga Crazy and mind you Gucci man is on the
- 14:56Speaker 2: road and bricks is blowing up and don't forget about
- 15:00Speaker 2: my jury and swing my dough and sick and taller Man.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That nigga was going crazy and we just Bro, I
- 15:07Speaker 2: couldn't tell you Thursday from Sunday Nigga. That shit just
- 15:10Speaker 2: was flowing, and you was just happy to be in
- 15:12Speaker 2: the mix of that ship. So it be at a
- 15:14Speaker 2: high level of that doing that, you know in clubs
- 15:17Speaker 2: and touring and ship. Bro, I could tell you, Bro,
- 15:20Speaker 2: I got on the truck on a bus and when
- 15:23Speaker 2: we got off the motherfucker, I ain't know what day was.
- 15:25Speaker 2: We just were working and hustling and grinding, and you know,
- 15:29Speaker 2: we'd be any city, bro, like you know, hey, why
- 15:31Speaker 2: DJ said he tore a lot and then he DJ
- 15:33Speaker 2: and said the wrong the city name of the city.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I've done that before. Oh you did, I really did
- 15:38Speaker 2: not know what city I was in. I forgot. Do
- 15:41Speaker 2: you know a city? You know a city that happening.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I want to say it was like Saint Louis or
- 15:47Speaker 2: something like that. It was at the time like it
- 15:49Speaker 2: was a city in Saint Louis, Like what happened? What happened?
- 15:52Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I know Boosy or somebody was
- 15:55Speaker 2: like headlining, but we was like second to last something
- 15:58Speaker 2: like that, and I said.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like, now, thank you.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Now this is DJ Holliday And I'm so appreciative of
- 16:06Speaker 3: these stories because he's a crazy he has more center
- 16:09Speaker 3: come out. And you're talking about the reach. When when
- 16:14Speaker 3: was the moment that you saw that you said, damn,
- 16:18Speaker 3: this ship is really moving because I know someone had
- 16:20Speaker 3: to call you that you was like, how do you
- 16:22Speaker 3: get my number?
- 16:23Speaker 1: And such and such.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Fun Master Flex had hit me wow, and I think,
- 16:28Speaker 2: I like you. I'm an emotional person when it comes
- 16:30Speaker 2: to ship like that moments and stuff. And when he
- 16:33Speaker 2: hit me bru and got my number. I don't even
- 16:35Speaker 2: know what you know Outlet was doing on man, but
- 16:38Speaker 2: he hit me and was like, yo, bro, I need
- 16:41Speaker 2: that clean or I need that I'm like funk Master
- 16:45Speaker 2: Flex stop one moment and let me take this ship
- 16:48Speaker 2: in your funk Master Flex the nigga wo be rapping
- 16:51Speaker 2: on them, I mean talking on them tapes and ship
- 16:53Speaker 2: just with Clue. I said, Clue and Flex are like
- 16:56Speaker 2: coorse drama. But that ship was unreal. And when that happened,
- 17:00Speaker 2: and then I think I woke up in the in
- 17:02Speaker 2: the one morning and MTV Jams had put me as
- 17:07Speaker 2: like a breakout DJ the Year or something like that,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and it was showing like a little clip of me
- 17:13Speaker 2: and Nikki doing something in the studio.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I forgot Stop.
- 17:18Speaker 3: You did Nicki Minaja's first mixtape only mixtape, Damn, she
- 17:22Speaker 3: only did one ever beat me Up Scottie. And if
- 17:30Speaker 3: you actually listen to the remix that she does and
- 17:32Speaker 3: she got a Holidays talking on the version.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Version, that's the version.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but you you met her. I met her before
- 17:42Speaker 1: she blew up. She was here in Atlanta.
- 17:44Speaker 2: She she you know, Deb has this training camp thing.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Deb is a Waker's mother, uh shouts.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Reply to my d M is dead.
- 17:54Speaker 2: But no, her her coming, her coming here was just
- 17:57Speaker 2: uh you know, she was just an artist that she
- 17:59Speaker 2: was around. She was helping her build her brand. And whatnot.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And Nikki was just like anybody else. Man. She be
- 18:05Speaker 2: in that b room while Gucci and everybody was in
- 18:07Speaker 2: the room and she was working and perfecting her craft. Man,
- 18:11Speaker 2: I just happened to peek in there a couple of times, like, hey, sit,
- 18:13Speaker 2: she's good. You need anything, yeah, you know, And it
- 18:16Speaker 2: turned into a relationship where we hung out, went to
- 18:19Speaker 2: the club. I took her to the made a couple
- 18:21Speaker 2: of times. Uh, you know, had to you know, find
- 18:24Speaker 2: out about some niggas and shit like that, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 2: just friend friend stuff, you know. And she and she
- 18:30Speaker 2: totally respected me, you know, coming up in my brand
- 18:34Speaker 2: and day to this day, to this day, when she
- 18:39Speaker 2: came to Atlanta, Man, we went to the show. I
- 18:41Speaker 2: took my niece, my wife. We had an amazing time. Man.
- 18:44Speaker 2: She gave me a whole suite, you know, you know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: it was just us four. I wish I had known
- 18:49Speaker 2: she was giving me a sweet I would invite everybody,
- 18:52Speaker 2: but it was like four suite with food. And then
- 18:55Speaker 2: we went backstage and she was sick too, man, by
- 18:58Speaker 2: the way, and she killed the show and she gave
- 19:00Speaker 2: me a hug and we took a picture. She met
- 19:02Speaker 2: my niece and everybody was amazing. So just to have
- 19:04Speaker 2: that that relationship still with her is so dope. And
- 19:08Speaker 2: then all the fans was outside, like hundreds of them
- 19:11Speaker 2: just waiting, and you know, they she wouldn't come out
- 19:13Speaker 2: that door, but they seen me and it just went
- 19:15Speaker 2: absolutely bananas. And I appreciate that. All the bars, thank
- 19:18Speaker 2: you so much. Now.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I know you probably so proud of her, you know,
- 19:22Speaker 4: because nothing is better than seeing a friend, you know,
- 19:25Speaker 4: just elevate. Yeah, And what I would say, has Nikki
- 19:30Speaker 4: always had that personality?
- 19:32Speaker 2: Man, she just always had that intensity and aggression to
- 19:35Speaker 2: just be somebody. I just know she wanted to be
- 19:38Speaker 2: somebody regular more than the person that she was, you know,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I guess sought out to be like you know, we
- 19:45Speaker 2: always respected Kim and everybody like that and Foxy and shit.
- 19:48Speaker 2: But I just knew nikkiy shit was gonna work, bro,
- 19:50Speaker 2: because I, like, I ain't I got that whole ear
- 19:53Speaker 2: of I never heard this before this. I think this
- 19:55Speaker 2: is gonna work. It sounds amazing. And man, she just
- 19:58Speaker 2: had that dedication in that grind and everything about it.
- 20:01Speaker 2: She was you know, animated and everything. Man, it just
- 20:05Speaker 2: it just made sense in so many words.
- 20:08Speaker 3: All Right, I've had the honor and blessing to be
- 20:12Speaker 3: around you, and one I feel like at the height
- 20:17Speaker 3: of your career, and I want to just give you
- 20:19Speaker 3: your flowers. Man, I felt like you put me in
- 20:23Speaker 3: position to win very early in my career to where
- 20:27Speaker 3: I kind of was starting to get frustrated because I
- 20:29Speaker 3: was like, damn, man, I think I felt like I
- 20:31Speaker 3: was dope. Why don't nobody else believe in me? But
- 20:34Speaker 3: like I wasn't.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I wasn't.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I was only around you maybe a month, and you
- 20:38Speaker 3: was like, nah, we putting Ferrari in position. Any type
- 20:42Speaker 3: of big birthday party you had with all the big artists,
- 20:45Speaker 3: you had me hosting any type of event you had,
- 20:48Speaker 3: you always had me yet super Bowl Yeah, my man.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Yeah, the Super Bowls in Atlanta, how they had me.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I was the official DJ for the Super Bowl. I
- 20:57Speaker 1: had to sign all this paperwork with the NFL network,
- 20:59Speaker 1: all type of stuff.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But like I say that, that's what you're supposed to do.
- 21:06Speaker 2: A lot of niggas don't understand that.
- 21:08Speaker 3: But see that's why I so what you did to me.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I try to do that for bt DC, you know
- 21:14Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 21:14Speaker 2: But BT would always tell your time to see you
- 21:16Speaker 2: in the club or something. I know it'd be loud
- 21:18Speaker 2: to be drunk, but always say good job yep. But
- 21:21Speaker 2: elevate yep. Don't be settled. I know you Arkansas, you
- 21:25Speaker 2: made it to Atlanta, got on the radio. We was
- 21:27Speaker 2: all that streets. Then you elevated even bigger. So it's
- 21:30Speaker 2: cool with the biow Wow vibes and ship bow Wow
- 21:33Speaker 2: is a great guy be around and be on TV.
- 21:35Speaker 2: But they elevated to this. Yeah, and even bigger.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Yet, yes, you always get holiday always you know him
- 21:42Speaker 4: him the Infamous.
- 21:43Speaker 2: They like my big brothers.
- 21:44Speaker 1: They always be like BT coming. But they don't do
- 21:48Speaker 1: that to everybody.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I know, if someone knows them to do that, I
- 21:52Speaker 3: feel like it is an honor.
- 21:53Speaker 1: So I just want to take you number one.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Thank you because didn't do it us.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yeah you know what I'm saying.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I appreciate you man so much, but I don't know why,
- 22:03Speaker 2: Like we always just had a plan to be like
- 22:05Speaker 2: yo man, when we get our shot. You know, let's
- 22:07Speaker 2: just put niggers on. Because I heard from another person
- 22:10Speaker 2: like if you put somebody on, they're always gonna keep
- 22:13Speaker 2: your name.
- 22:13Speaker 4: You know, good and just be wanting information and we
- 22:18Speaker 4: should be giving our information. And it's like, you know,
- 22:21Speaker 4: shout out to you Holiday, cause even you probably don't
- 22:24Speaker 4: even know this. I don't think I ever told you.
- 22:25Speaker 4: But like even when I did make that transition moving
- 22:29Speaker 4: from Arkansas to Atlanta, like I remember, I was like, bruh,
- 22:33Speaker 4: I called my homebiy Like, bro, I'm in here with
- 22:35Speaker 4: DJ Holiday, bru It's crazy bruh Like. And just to
- 22:40Speaker 4: be around you, like I remember, I used to just
- 22:42Speaker 4: be on your shoul and I'll just be studying like
- 22:44Speaker 4: even you know, when you had your afternoon, like I'll
- 22:48Speaker 4: just be studying like your work ethic. And he would
- 22:49Speaker 4: always just like be to you. Always gotta you know,
- 22:51Speaker 4: you always got to keep it going. You always got
- 22:53Speaker 4: to make sure that you're doing things outside of what
- 22:56Speaker 4: your what your bas is.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I don't I think everything anything in your life, working wise,
- 23:01Speaker 2: preparation is the sister of success, the twin sister. Actually,
- 23:06Speaker 2: you know, you just got to work hard at it, man,
- 23:08Speaker 2: and stay focused at it. You know, I wake up,
- 23:10Speaker 2: like I said, with the same same attitude every day
- 23:14Speaker 2: man that I want to be great and bigger because
- 23:17Speaker 2: at end of the day, like I said, I'm chasing
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'm chasing other motherfuckers. I'm with them and I'm seeing
- 23:22Speaker 2: them and I'm like, damn Jamaane, God, Damn such and
- 23:25Speaker 2: such and he and the clubs and you know, and
- 23:28Speaker 2: he telling me the deal is he doing it? I'm like, oh,
- 23:30Speaker 2: hell no, I gotta go harder. Yeah, And that's that's
- 23:32Speaker 2: me at my level of my stage now. Now, when
- 23:34Speaker 2: I was chasing drama and you know all that, and
- 23:37Speaker 2: you know, I saw it out, I felt like I
- 23:39Speaker 2: accomplished that and get to that level when I wanted
- 23:41Speaker 2: to be on radio every day. I did that, you know.
- 23:43Speaker 2: But it's it's levels to anything that you want to see,
- 23:46Speaker 2: you know, taking it to the next level. So that's
- 23:48Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Well, shout out to your beautiful family. Yeah, shout out
- 23:52Speaker 3: to the wife, to the kids. I like to see
- 23:56Speaker 3: when people evolve, you know what I'm saying. When I
- 23:58Speaker 3: met you, you didn't have a fan like we were.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Lion was around for that house. I know what you're
- 24:12Speaker 2: talking about.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Them We had some fun. We had fun. It was
- 24:15Speaker 1: a good time. It was a good time.
- 24:16Speaker 3: She was just no diddy. It was all nice. And
- 24:20Speaker 3: I'm staging good guys. It was it was some good
- 24:23Speaker 3: fun just happened.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I just said, we just had some It was some
- 24:26Speaker 1: good times.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Man, we had a good party. You never would go
- 24:29Speaker 2: to the edge with me. You're not a guy. You
- 24:33Speaker 2: would always play them games and I always put you
- 24:36Speaker 2: to the side of the missing everything going. One day,
- 24:39Speaker 2: I remember when I had I got this house. I
- 24:42Speaker 2: had this house far out, hour out and strange things having.
- 24:47Speaker 2: But Ferrari came, Oh he did. He came one night
- 24:52Speaker 2: and you know, I got the house. He came to
- 24:59Speaker 2: the house and you know, it was just one of
- 25:01Speaker 2: them vibes and everybody was there and having a good
- 25:03Speaker 2: time and just you know, whatever you want to do,
- 25:05Speaker 2: you could do. Yeah. And I think, I don't know
- 25:12Speaker 2: if you had a girl at the time or something
- 25:14Speaker 2: like that. But he was very stuff going on in
- 25:16Speaker 2: the situation. And I told him, I said, if you
- 25:19Speaker 2: want to exit left you can. Yeah. It wasn't like that.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It was just I know it wasn't It wasn't as bad.
- 25:26Speaker 1: All I know is he had a light saying yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: big ass pool boy. Yeah it was a good time.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Man, what you supposed to do the house like that?
- 25:34Speaker 3: But I want to get back to it. Shout out
- 25:36Speaker 3: to your family, shouts to your beautiful wife.
- 25:39Speaker 1: That says, what up? Says e j uh.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Ryan Michelle Ryan, Michelle Easton Easton. Yeah, man, that's like
- 25:46Speaker 2: the cool ship to do. Yeah, have kids, all my
- 25:50Speaker 2: exact friends and DJ friends who you know.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's just good to see it.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Sometimes you see you see the crash out and you
- 25:58Speaker 3: be like, damn, yeah, I don't want to go that way,
- 26:02Speaker 3: you know.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I just I was talking. I think I seen a
- 26:05Speaker 2: big bank on here and he was talking about getting old.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I was like, to get old, to get old, bro,
- 26:11Speaker 2: Like I would rather go spend four five racks on
- 26:14Speaker 2: taking my kids to see some ship they ain't never seen.
- 26:16Speaker 2: My kids got passports. I ain't have a passa. I
- 26:19Speaker 2: was twenty two years old.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Talk.
- 26:21Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. So my thing is for
- 26:23Speaker 2: my kids to say they didn't travel and they got
- 26:25Speaker 2: multiple stamps in that ship. That's cool to me.
- 26:29Speaker 1: My kids are actually my kids have their own room.
- 26:32Speaker 2: My kids, my kids had clipper rooms, We got arcade,
- 26:36Speaker 2: we got a movie theater, everything we want, bro.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Because at the end of the day, how they got
- 26:40Speaker 1: a nice house.
- 26:42Speaker 2: And that's good to see, you know. That's healthy to see,
- 26:44Speaker 2: like to no, go ahead that it all came from
- 26:47Speaker 2: DJA my mind and that's crazy and that's the cool
- 26:51Speaker 2: part about it. Man, speaking of dj we just had
- 26:53Speaker 2: a few.
- 26:53Speaker 1: DM Yeah, we do, got we got wrapped about ten.
- 26:55Speaker 2: But let's let's get let's let's get that.
- 26:57Speaker 4: We had a few DJ went viral and they and
- 27:00Speaker 4: they was talking to see you said you you lived
- 27:03Speaker 4: this beautiful life from DJing. Now, how what's some advice
- 27:07Speaker 4: you would get a DJs, because you know, it's a
- 27:09Speaker 4: lot of DJs across the world that's kind of frustrated
- 27:12Speaker 4: with how they're being treated as far as like with paying,
- 27:15Speaker 4: you know, stuff like that.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Are you speaking on the episode just in general?
- 27:19Speaker 3: Because that episode was was more so of a highlight
- 27:23Speaker 3: of what's happening.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Anytime you put start a conversation with DJ and and
- 27:28Speaker 2: things like that, because it's such a big population of people,
- 27:31Speaker 2: you're gonna get different emotions and things like.
- 27:33Speaker 1: It's a very passionate.
- 27:34Speaker 2: It's a very passionate job. But at the same time,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you know, I love it the same way I love
- 27:40Speaker 2: it from the first time when I DJ with for
- 27:42Speaker 2: one hundred people. You know, it's the same for me,
- 27:45Speaker 2: like now, granted, like I said, I think you had Vaughn, Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 2: amaze and talents. I've booked them before. They are great
- 27:54Speaker 2: guys in there that there. I say, where they're at now,
- 27:58Speaker 2: it's like stage three of their career because it's like
- 28:02Speaker 2: being with an artist and making amazing money like that.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's great, But just for me, and I'm thinking about
- 28:09Speaker 2: DJ Holliday in my head where I was at, I
- 28:12Speaker 2: just was like, this is cool, but it also frustrated
- 28:16Speaker 2: me because I'm more of a future thinker. I'll be like, oh, man,
- 28:19Speaker 2: what if he don't rock with me no more? What
- 28:21Speaker 2: if he cut me off or something like that, And
- 28:22Speaker 2: this is just artists or whoever. I always thought of
- 28:25Speaker 2: an exit route for that, and I didn't. I never really.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It just didn't sit well with me when flyers would
- 28:31Speaker 2: come out and say Gucci Man's DJ and not say
- 28:34Speaker 2: DJ Holliday. That's all So that's just me And it wasn't. No,
- 28:38Speaker 2: it didn't.
- 28:39Speaker 1: You didn't, It didn't bother you. It just it didn't
- 28:41Speaker 1: bother me.
- 28:41Speaker 2: But they put a hunger in me to to say, well,
- 28:44Speaker 2: I want the flyer. This says like fum mask the
- 28:47Speaker 2: flex or DJ Dramma. I want my picture on that period.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I want to be the headline respectfully. Like I said, tone,
- 28:57Speaker 2: those guys are killing it. Them niggas is hard. But
- 29:00Speaker 2: at the same time, like I said, it's levels to it,
- 29:03Speaker 2: and it's gonna get to another it's gonna get to
- 29:05Speaker 2: a level where you're gonna have to pivot and think
- 29:08Speaker 2: about what you're gonna do next from that now infamous,
- 29:12Speaker 2: my brother for Life, my Day one A one. He
- 29:14Speaker 2: would ludle Chris that Nigga is a an artist is
- 29:18Speaker 2: never gonna goddamn go out of style. He been. He's
- 29:21Speaker 2: literally a super Bowl a couple with last year, and
- 29:23Speaker 2: he do shows every weekend. You take that and you
- 29:26Speaker 2: make that money and you put it into something else.
- 29:31Speaker 1: From the pancakes, he got a pancake spot.
- 29:33Speaker 2: He's taking that money and he's pivoted to something else
- 29:36Speaker 2: that's not had nothing to do with music now. And
- 29:38Speaker 2: I know all three of those guys are very, very
- 29:40Speaker 2: talented and smart, and you know, look where they're at.
- 29:42Speaker 2: They're doing great things with great artists. But uh, you
- 29:44Speaker 2: know that just for me, it always was always I
- 29:47Speaker 2: want to be bigger than that. Yeah, do you feel
- 29:49Speaker 2: like the pay is messed up though, absolutely yeah, and
- 29:53Speaker 2: then shout out to you' ill promote an episode. Uh
- 29:56Speaker 2: you know, But I see it on both sides of
- 29:58Speaker 2: the fence because I don't think those worlds exist together. Now,
- 30:03Speaker 2: if I'm DJing for millions of people on tour, how
- 30:06Speaker 2: does that translate to this guy who wants me to
- 30:09Speaker 2: do his club with three hundred people and sell sections
- 30:12Speaker 2: they That doesn't That doesn't work for me. And I
- 30:14Speaker 2: feel like, because I warn both shoes as a DJ
- 30:17Speaker 2: and as a promoter who's throwing parties and book DJs,
- 30:20Speaker 2: that doesn't work. But like I said, if you're a
- 30:23Speaker 2: popular guy here a popular guy. But if you can
- 30:25Speaker 2: bring people out there bisections and you got that network
- 30:28Speaker 2: and you got that vibe, you can get the d
- 30:31Speaker 2: boys and the scammers that come out and pop bottles
- 30:33Speaker 2: with you and shit, you know, then you good money.
- 30:35Speaker 2: But promoters, I think.
- 30:37Speaker 1: They they view it, they view it different different.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yeah, So just to be on both sides of the fence, DJs,
- 30:44Speaker 2: just get your brand to that level where it's of
- 30:47Speaker 2: value to a promoter. You know, I never not tried
- 30:50Speaker 2: to walk in the club with at least fifty people
- 30:52Speaker 2: or thirty people or something like that, you know, or
- 30:54Speaker 2: just call my partners and say, hey, man, I'm DJing
- 30:57Speaker 2: the night. Get a section and pop bottles and turn
- 30:59Speaker 2: off for me. You know, I'm saying it's gonna look good.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Or you know, a promoter like you know, I'm not
- 31:03Speaker 2: booking no guy who who can't you know, get the
- 31:06Speaker 2: crowd going to the next level or help me sell
- 31:09Speaker 2: sections and it should be separate, I think.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But yeah, I was just gonna be throw on my
- 31:13Speaker 1: own functions. You know what I'm saying.
- 31:15Speaker 3: I do me a nice little setting funk way, I'd
- 31:18Speaker 3: be making my bag and I'd be cool.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Well that's what I transitioned to.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Listen, I go where I'm celebrated and wanted. You're celebrated,
- 31:26Speaker 2: not tolerted. And and I'm not mind you now. I
- 31:29Speaker 2: love my city. I can go to any club and
- 31:30Speaker 2: fuck it up quick bad. And but but you know,
- 31:35Speaker 2: I think me doing seven nights a week or four
- 31:37Speaker 2: nights a week in the club is just that I
- 31:40Speaker 2: don't want. I used to be with you that I
- 31:43Speaker 2: don't want.
- 31:44Speaker 4: To do and I feel like sometimes like that hurts
- 31:46Speaker 4: your brand because because I I used to. I used
- 31:49Speaker 4: to think that way, like, man, I need to host
- 31:51Speaker 4: as many club as possible to make the money.
- 31:52Speaker 2: But then I realized it's like the stuff that I
- 31:55Speaker 2: do outside.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Of this is going that's going to elevate my brand,
- 31:57Speaker 4: to elevate to where I can charge people what I want.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And I know how to say no. Yeah. You would say,
- 32:04Speaker 2: like I said, do you feel like you've outgrown Arkansas? Yeah? Exactly,
- 32:08Speaker 2: So there you go saying the same thing with me.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I feel like I've outgrown Atlanta. But that's why I
- 32:13Speaker 2: DJ and Dubai. That's why I have in Vegas. That's
- 32:18Speaker 2: why I go places like that, and these people will
- 32:20Speaker 2: pay thousands of dollars to watch me play bricks plus
- 32:24Speaker 2: travel plus travel plus wife. You get to go and
- 32:27Speaker 2: it's a vacation. And that's the cool thing about me.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I can take my friends and my wife and my family,
- 32:32Speaker 2: you know, and I DJ. This is some ship I
- 32:34Speaker 2: would do for free anyway, for sure. And I'm going
- 32:37Speaker 2: to the club and DJ in another country or state
- 32:40Speaker 2: and having a fucking ball. And then I got my
- 32:43Speaker 2: wife is my beautiful wife, and she shopping on every
- 32:46Speaker 2: chicken so and then that's that's certified ass for the
- 32:50Speaker 2: night too. That's my wife and I'm going home with
- 32:56Speaker 2: a beautiful woman who's my wife. By mind you So
- 32:59Speaker 2: everything that how my mind was trained when I was younger,
- 33:01Speaker 2: and how I wanted to DJ when the DJ killer party,
- 33:04Speaker 2: fucking fuck a girl, get some money, all that has
- 33:06Speaker 2: been consolidated into a beautiful life that God has given me.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Uh you know, with my my family and my wife and.
- 33:14Speaker 4: And his growth and what I what I do want
- 33:16Speaker 4: to say, how does it feel being official DJ for
- 33:19Speaker 4: for the Hip Hop Awards?
- 33:21Speaker 2: Been doing that for a long time Jesse College. Yeah, man,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I also want to say that to you know, don't
- 33:27Speaker 2: always ignore the person that uh that's you know, by
- 33:30Speaker 2: the bar or whatever man asks and networking. Know, that's
- 33:33Speaker 2: why I still kind of do like holler pal losers
- 33:35Speaker 2: and things like that. Those are all instruments which he
- 33:39Speaker 2: by the way, yeah yeah, uh that asked you to
- 33:42Speaker 2: put you in positions where you're gonna network. That was
- 33:44Speaker 2: Networking was always a big thing in my in my
- 33:48Speaker 2: career and still right now to this day. That's why
- 33:50Speaker 2: we do all of losers and we sell out. But
- 33:52Speaker 2: I was saying it to say that just keep working
- 33:54Speaker 2: and put yourself in position and do those type of
- 33:57Speaker 2: things because you never know who you're gonna meet. So
- 33:59Speaker 2: get that back. To answer your question, I love it.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I appreciate it. But shot at to Jesse Collins, who
- 34:04Speaker 2: I seen at the bar when I was djaing a
- 34:07Speaker 2: party early and you know, he was there and I
