Women have frequently given of themselves in the ongoing work of building and maintaining Christian religious communities. At their best, religious communities have been places of refuge for women seeking community and agency in a patriarchal world – at their worst (or perhaps normal?) religious communities have been spaces that are dependent upon womens work but refuse to see them as human beings who also reflect the image of God.
