- 1:16give him upon himself and fights for us.
- 1:20God sustains his children, holds them uprightly, and invites us to give him
- 1:24our burdens, cares, worries, and problems.
- 1:28Join us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim takes us on a
- 1:33journey through the Scriptures, unfolding the truths in Psalm 55, 22.
- 1:38Jesus invites all of us to Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.
- 1:45He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55, 22.
- 1:51Hello, and welcome to this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries,
- 1:54and what an absolute pleasure it is to be looking at God's Word with you.
- 2:00But especially today, as we're looking at Psalm 55, 22, the three truths that
- 2:06we're going to bring out in that message that the Holy Spirit has just etched
- 2:10upon my heart are life-changing.
- 2:14They're the kind of information that if we take it to our heart.
- 2:19Our lives will be forever changed for the good.
- 2:23And that's what the Word of God does. It points a path for us to walk in.
- 2:28It sheds light in the darkness and joy in the sadness.
- 2:34God's Word is a light unto our feet and a lamp unto our path.
- 2:39Jesus loves me, this I know, and the Bible tells me so.
- 2:43And I'm so excited to be able to just read in your hearing Psalm 55,
- 2:4922, that says, Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.
- 2:55He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
- 3:00If you're not in a problem right now, you've either just come out of a problem,
- 3:04or unfortunately, you're just getting ready to go in one.
- 3:07We live in a world that's full of trouble in fact scripture says a man born
- 3:11of a woman in a few days full of trouble,
- 3:14The world is desperately wicked, and the prince of this world is Satan,
- 3:22and he is walking about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
- 3:27But we are to be of good cheer because God has overcome the world, and he lives in us.
- 3:35So we need to keep our eyes focused on the truth of who God is and who God is
- 3:41in our life and who we can be in the center of God's will.
- 3:46I think too often when we hear people talk about walking in the center of God's
- 3:50will, they're looking at it from a perspective of what's God's purpose for me?
- 3:56What am I supposed to be doing? And all of those are incredible truths that
- 4:01are unfolded and revealed to us when we walk in the center of God's will.
- 4:05But I want you to know that in the center of God's will is where his ultimate protection lies.
- 4:12We are safely under the wings of the Almighty.
- 4:17God never leaves us.
- 4:21That means that according to Hebrews 13, 5, which says that he'll never leave
- 4:26us or forsake us, that means that we don't have to face any situation alone.
- 4:34We don't face the bad situations alone, and we don't face the celebrations alone,
- 4:40and we don't face anything in between alone.
- 4:43Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so,
- 4:47and he has explained to me that his love for me is so vast, his love for me
- 4:53is so deep that his attachment for me is to be around me at all times.
- 4:59And he accomplishes this through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in every
- 5:04believer walking in the ways of Jesus Christ.
- 5:08Today, I want you to grasp the truth that God sustains you.
- 5:16He's going to fight your battles if you'll just let him.
- 5:20In 1 Samuel 17, verse 45, he says, The battle's not ours. It belongs to the Lord.
- 5:27And this is in the midst of this account where David is fighting the Goliath.
- 5:32And I want you to know that I am aware because I, too, am human and walk in this world.
- 5:38That we are facing giants.
- 5:42We are battling every day.
- 5:45But we don't need to battle it alone. In fact, if we battle the way we're supposed
- 5:52to battle the things of this world,
- 5:53Ephesians 6 says that it's going to be principalities in this world.
- 5:58The spirits, it's not people.
- 6:01People are just being used and lend themselves to be tools of the devil.
- 6:06But your real enemy is satan himself,
- 6:10and when you understand that your real enemy is satan himself and you get the
- 6:14picture that we are told in the scriptures that he's already defeated,
- 6:20in fact we're told in first corinthians 15 57 he says jesus gives us the victory
- 6:27this here's what it reads but
- 6:29thanks be to god who giveth us the victory through our lord jesus Christ.
- 6:35I've read the back of the book. We win. But so often, so often,
- 6:42we throw up this flag of defeat. We surrender.
- 6:48It seems to me that we've forgotten who we are. In 2 Corinthians 4,
- 6:53verses 7 through 9, perhaps one of my very favorite passages,
- 6:57at least in this part of my life, reads like this.
- 7:02But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power
- 7:06may be of God and not of us.
- 7:09It's about God.
- 7:12He's going to supply my strength, he's going to supply my power,
- 7:15and he's going to fight my battle.
- 7:17We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed. We are perplexed, but not in despair.
- 7:25Persecuted, but not forsaken.
- 7:27Cast down, but not destroyed. I've got good news for you. You are a winner.
- 7:34You are victorious. Nothing can take you down.
- 7:39But often we throw up the white flag and we look like we've been baptized face
- 7:43forward in pickle juice.
- 7:45We walk around miserable, a walking billboard for what you don't want to be.
- 7:52And then we try to go up to somebody and tell them, hey, you want what I got.
- 7:56And they're looking at you going, no, no, I don't want what you got.
- 8:00But it doesn't have to be that way. because the child of God has been promised
- 8:05not only to be delivered, but to be sustained.
- 8:10But it requires that we let him do it.
- 8:15And that's how we open up in Psalm 55, 22, when he says, cast thy burden upon
- 8:23the Lord. That's an action of choice.
- 8:26That is a free will decision.
- 8:29That is a demonstration of pure faith.
- 8:34When you throw your hands up, say, Lord, save me. Here it is. Help me, as I need you.
- 8:43And this, as is all things, is in your wheelhouse. That's what we're talking about.
- 8:51No one can pluck you out of his hand, according to John 10, 28.
- 8:56So when you're feeling persecuted, downtrodden, betrayed, disappointed, or forgotten.
- 9:06I encourage you, look at Psalm 55, 22.
- 9:11In this passage of Scripture, we are given the recipe for joy unspeakable and
- 9:17full of glory, for a peace that passes understanding, for the way through this life that we would end,
- 9:24up living the intended life,
- 9:28the intended abundant life that we are told is ours in John 10, 10.
- 9:35In Psalm 55, the psalmist David is living life in its woes.
- 9:47He's stressed. He's betrayed. He's been disappointed.
- 9:51His friends have forgotten him. He's threatened by the enemies that are chasing him.
- 9:58And if you ever saw a man that was depressed and defeated.
- 10:04Who was downtrodden and out for the count, that's what King David is facing
- 10:12and looking like for the moment in Psalm 55.
- 10:18That's the environment he's sitting in. But King David's life from beginning
- 10:24to end is one that reveals the importance of repentance and the value of surrender.
- 10:31And the incredible forgiveness of God.
- 10:34David is sliding all over right most of the time.
- 10:38But God himself said that King David's heart was after his. He was a man after God's own heart.
- 10:47He was seeking to be in the center of God's will.
- 10:50He was seeking to please the Lord. He was seeking to love the Lord with his
- 10:55whole heart, soul, spirit, mind, and being.
- 10:59And for that, we find that every time that David slips and slides,
- 11:05every time that David makes a misstep, he finds himself running back to the
- 11:10Lord, asking for forgiveness.
- 11:13And we read in his scriptures that the Lord forgives those who ask.
- 11:20In 1 John 1.9, he says, if we confess our sins, he's faithful and just to forgive
- 11:25us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 11:30So in Psalm 55, David finds himself in a very difficult predicament.
- 11:39His situation is grave.
- 11:43Instead of letting his emotions control him and allowing himself to be fully
- 11:48consumed by fear, David purposely chooses to rely fully upon God.
- 11:56David is staking his claim in the Savior he loves and trusts.
- 12:04In your situation, in your circumstance, perhaps in your dire need,
- 12:10Where are you staking your claim?
- 12:13Where are you placing your faith? Who's fighting your battle?
- 12:17Are you trying to fight it alone?
- 12:20Have you taken the reins out of God's hands?
- 12:23And you're relying upon your own capabilities, intellect, strength, connections?
- 12:31They're going to all fail. But King David refuses to surrender to fear.
- 12:39And he refuses to let his fleshly emotions control his actions.
- 12:45Instead, David chooses to exchange his fear and his anxiety for the gift of God's peace.
- 12:58This, my friend, is what we read in Psalm 55, 22.
- 13:04But we also see this same principle, this same process, explained to us in 1
- 13:10Peter 5, 6, and 7, to humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
- 13:16that he may exalt you in due time,
- 13:19casting all your care upon him,
- 13:21for he careth for you.
- 13:25God not only sustains you, but he also cares about you, and he cares for you.
- 13:34You are sustained by God, and every thought that is contrary to that is a lie
- 13:42straight from the pits of hell.
- 13:45And I need you to fully comprehend Psalm 55, 22.
- 13:50I want you to etch it in your heart, to put it across your mind,
- 13:55to put it where you can see it frequently, to have it on the ready when you
- 14:00are feeling stressed or distressed,
- 14:03when you're afraid, when the devil comes lying and something about your flesh is just a little off.
- 14:10And so you're starting to remember it. I want you to remember that you've been
- 14:14asked to cast your burden on the Lord.
- 14:18That God will sustain you.
- 14:21And he's never going to allow or permit you to be overtaken, destroyed, or moved.
- 14:29These are the promises we see in Psalm 55, 22.
- 14:34Let's break it down. He opens up with, cast your burden on the Lord.
- 14:42What he says is, cast thy burden upon the Lord.
- 14:47Jesus is inviting you to cast your cares upon him, to let them go, to release them.
- 14:55Matthew 11, 28 through 30 says, come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy
- 15:00laden, and I will give you rest.
- 15:03Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart,
- 15:09and ye shall find rest for your souls.
- 15:12For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
- 15:17Psalm 5522, the first step in the recipe to navigating this life with the peace
- 15:24and joy and love of Jesus Christ,
- 15:27is to give your burdens to him, to choose to release your worries and your cares to the Lord.
- 15:35You were never meant to carry them. The weight of this world is too big for
- 15:40us, but nothing's too big for our God.
- 15:44All things are under his feet.
- 15:48You want to have peace in this world? You cast your cares upon the Lord.
- 15:54Release them. Let him have it.
- 15:57And the result of that is that God will sustain you. That's what we're clearly told in Psalm 55, 22.
- 16:05God will nourish and feed and uphold you. That's what the literal translation is in this verse.
- 16:13When we look at the second part of Psalm 55, 22, it says, and he shall sustain thee.
- 16:20It's talking about nourishing you. It's talking about feeding you.
- 16:26It's talking about upholding you.
- 16:28If you feed on the word of God, you're going to be so strong that there's no
- 16:32end of this world that's going to knock you down.
- 16:34If you are feeding upon the word of God and you are feasting at the foot of
- 16:39Jesus Christ and you are following him and you are close to him,
- 16:45there is nothing that is going to separate you,
- 16:49from the joy of the Lord.
- 16:50Nothing will ever separate you from the love of the Lord.
- 16:54But if you want to live in the joy of the Lord, you press up close to him.
- 17:00They are feeding you. In fact, if you look at Psalm 23, around verse 5,
- 17:04he says that he prepares the table before thy enemies.
- 17:08Those that are ridiculing you, those that are tearing you down,
- 17:12those that are lying about you, those that are putting rumors out about you, those who are
- 17:17hurting you, those who have betrayed you, the enemy that is chasing you,
- 17:22they are going to come to a point where they have gone too far,
- 17:27and they will meet jesus face to face and between you and him will be a table
- 17:33that is feasting of his blessings that's a favor of the lord is dripping from you
- 17:39and they will see it and they will be angry by it
- 17:43and they will be defeated by him because no good thing does he withhold from
- 17:47them that walk uprightly and he is fighting your battle and he's never lost
- 17:52to battle and he's not going to start with yours.
- 17:55And these people who are snotty nosed and they're just simply trying to just
- 18:00peck at you like a little woodpecker does on a tree, they're not going to get anywhere.
- 18:06They remind me of this woodpecker that lives in my neighborhood and loves my home.
- 18:12And for years now, when spring comes, I am welcomed outside my window of my
- 18:19bedroom with the sound of a woodpecker banging on my metal gutters.
- 18:26And after all these years, that little woodpecker has not made any headway getting
- 18:35into my gutter, and he's never stopped.
- 18:39That, my friend, is the picture I want to lay in front of you Regarding Psalm
- 18:465522, you're in the center of the gutter.
- 18:52Let him peck all he wants. Let come what may.
- 18:56Let the things of this world show up in front of you. They're not your problem.
- 19:01They're not yours to fight.
- 19:04And eventually, they'll either tire and run.
- 19:10Or eventually, they'll die.
- 19:14But like that woodpecker, they're never coming in to your space.
- 19:21See if they're bothering you If they're causing you distress It's because you've
- 19:27thrown up the white flag and let them in,
- 19:31woodpecker's never getting in that gutter unless I somehow cut a hole for him to just get in.
- 19:37Because he won't fly and come from the top. He's just not that smart.
- 19:41That enemy is never going to get you. That rumor is never going to hurt you.
- 19:46That pain you're feeling is misplaced love and trust.
- 19:52But today, I want you to know that if you feed on God and pray and read his
- 19:57word and just center down on him, Just let him be the center.
- 20:02The things of this world will grow strangely dim.
- 20:06Isaiah 26.3 says, Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind has stayed
- 20:10on thee because he trusteth in thee.
- 20:12Problems are going to come. But don't face your problems alone. Let God fight for you.
- 20:20He's going to supply your every need. And he will give you the strength to do
- 20:25what he's called you to do.
- 20:26Truths, he tells us in Philippians 4, 19 and 13.
- 20:31But perhaps what you need to really bolster in your life in order to fully embrace
- 20:39and live the truths of Psalm 55, 22,
- 20:44is you got to put your trust and faith in God.
- 20:47In Proverbs 3, verses 5 through 7, he says, Trust in the Lord with all thine
- 20:51heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge
- 20:55him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- 20:58Be not wise in thine own eyes.
- 21:00Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
- 21:03Problems will come, but it doesn't matter what they are. They're not too big
- 21:08and they're not too small.
- 21:10God will make you the victor because you are more than a conqueror through him that loves you.
- 21:18In fact, the last part of Psalm 55, 22 reads like this.
- 21:24Never suffer the righteous to
- 21:25be moved. God's not going to allow or permit you to be moved off his rock.
- 21:32You are steady and safe in the arms of Jesus. You will never be permanently
- 21:37knocked down, overthrown, or defeated.
- 21:40The God you serve is victorious, and you are victorious through him.
- 21:46And he says you're more than a conqueror. You don't just win by a small margin.
- 21:50You don't just barely get through by the hair of your chinny chin chin.
- 21:54No, you are more than a conqueror, as he's more than enough.
- 22:01So, my friend, let come what may. You're covered by the shadow of the wings
- 22:05of the Almighty, according to Psalm 91.1.
- 22:09Let the devil throw his best shots at you. He cannot take you down.
- 22:15You will not be overtaken. You are fully protected by the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
- 22:21This battle you're facing, I know it hurts, and it may come as a shock to you.
- 22:27It may have come out of nowhere, but Scripture tells us in Jeremiah 29,
- 22:3111 that he has a plan for you, and it's a good plan to prosper you and to give you a hope.
- 22:37Things that shock us, the things that surprise us.
- 22:41He knows all about them, and he's already equipped you. One way to look at the
- 22:45situation that you're in is, my goodness, Jesus loves me because he's put me on the front lines.
- 22:54You can take it because you're just going to grab it and hand it off to the Lord.
- 23:00I bet all of you didn't know what tremendous running backs you were.
- 23:06God's our quarterback.
- 23:09He tells us how to go. And if we all live the life we're supposed to,
- 23:13we're going to do the quarterback snake.
- 23:16He's going to hand us the problems, the devil is, and then we're just going to hand them back to him.
- 23:22See, today, it's a new day, and you can be victorious.
- 23:27Today's a new day. You could love him more than you've ever loved him and trust
- 23:31him more than you've ever trusted him.
- 23:34And from this moment on, you can walk in the peace, joy, and the victory of
- 23:39Jesus Christ, because you can cast your burden on the Lord, because you trust him.
- 23:47You'll receive his protection, and he will sustain you, because that's who he is.
- 23:54And you can stand tall, head held high, and shoulders back, because you are
- 24:01a child of the Most High God,
- 24:05and He fights your battles, and He's never lost one.
- 24:11So today, trust in the Lord and show the world that your God sustains you always.
- 24:21Remember, you are loved. Jesus loves you.
