Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike. With Lane Lambert, looking at tonight, the Pittsburgh
- 0:04Speaker 1: Penguins got off to a pretty hot start. They've cooled
- 0:06Speaker 1: down a little bit after a five nothing lost here
- 0:08Speaker 1: at home last night. Anytime you have Crosby and malk
- 0:12Speaker 1: It on the ice and the tang on the ice,
- 0:14Speaker 1: you know it's going to be a dangerous team. What
- 0:16Speaker 1: do they present to this group that the crackit are
- 0:18Speaker 1: gonna have to overcome this evening?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Well, they you know, they've got speed. They play fast,
- 0:24Speaker 2: they play north, they try and stretch out and at
- 0:28Speaker 2: the end of the day, they don't need a lot
- 0:31Speaker 2: of opportunities to hurt you.
- 0:34Speaker 3: You know, I didn't look this.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Morning, but you know there's well over two thousand points
- 0:40Speaker 2: between two of them, and you know, it's just a
- 0:44Speaker 2: situation where they're they're.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Coming off of five nothing loss.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You know, they came back from you know, from the
- 0:51Speaker 2: Global series time change, all that first came back. I
- 0:55Speaker 2: expect them to be a lot better than they were
- 0:57Speaker 2: last night, and we're gonna have to be good. We're
- 1:00Speaker 2: gonna have to stay above them, keep them off the
- 1:03Speaker 2: score sheet as best we possibly can, and stay out
- 1:06Speaker 2: of the penalty box. Their power play is first in
- 1:09Speaker 2: the league over thirty percent. There's just so many weapons
- 1:12Speaker 2: there that it's hard. It's hard to pick which one
- 1:15Speaker 2: to take away.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The defensive structure never changes from team the team. But
- 1:19Speaker 1: this team, the crackt I mean, have had an ability
- 1:22Speaker 1: to shut down the badards, the McDavid's, the top players
- 1:26Speaker 1: in this league. What is it about this group that
- 1:30Speaker 1: sometimes can render these superstar players ineffective? And what do
- 1:34Speaker 1: they have to do here tonight to do the same
- 1:36Speaker 1: thing for a Crosby and.
- 1:37Speaker 2: For a balcon Well, you know, you've got to give
- 1:40Speaker 2: credit to the team for embracing the structure of what
- 1:43Speaker 2: we're doing first and foremost.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And then you know, when you're playing against.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Those types of players, you've got to have the right
- 1:51Speaker 2: people on the ice as best you possibly can. Give
- 1:53Speaker 2: Chandler Stevenson a lot of credit, give Mattypineer's a lot
- 1:57Speaker 2: of credit their lines, and give our deep you know,
- 2:00Speaker 2: a lot of credit with you know, Dunn and Larson
- 2:02Speaker 2: and play an etraordinary amount against those those guys. But
- 2:07Speaker 2: we feel like we've got three solid D pairs and
- 2:10Speaker 2: we actually have two guys that aren't playing in the game,
- 2:12Speaker 2: you know, with Mahara and Flurry that we.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Feel are really good as well.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So you know, I think they've done a good job
- 2:20Speaker 2: of recognizing that we do need to shut.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Those guys down.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think, once again cracking on the other night, proving
- 2:26Speaker 1: it's not how you start, but how you finish a
- 2:29Speaker 1: three goal comeback to take down Chicago three, to just
- 2:32Speaker 1: take us through an up and down game for your group.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like I've said all year long, it's
- 2:39Speaker 2: never as good as you think it is, and it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: never as bad as you think it is. I thought
- 2:43Speaker 2: the first period was a bit of a back and
- 2:45Speaker 2: forth period. You know, they had some chances uncharacteristic that
- 2:49Speaker 2: we gave up a couple of slot attempts, but we
- 2:53Speaker 2: also had some chances on them. Right, So then the
- 2:57Speaker 2: second period, you know, for whatever reason, and.
- 3:00Speaker 3: We come out and.
- 3:03Speaker 2: You know, our our team has to understand the importance
- 3:05Speaker 2: of puck management, especially in second periods, the longer changes.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You know, we just turned the puck over a few
- 3:12Speaker 2: too many times and they end up coming back and
- 3:14Speaker 2: you know, getting a couple of goals on us, and
- 3:18Speaker 2: we've got to start periods better. You know, we've had
- 3:20Speaker 2: too many times this year where we've been scored on
- 3:22Speaker 2: and you know, the first shift or the first two
- 3:25Speaker 2: minutes or three minutes of the period, and it's just,
- 3:27Speaker 2: you know, it's something we've got to correct. Give our
- 3:30Speaker 2: guys credit. I thought the third period.
- 3:32Speaker 3: We came out and dominated them.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And you know, started to shoot the puck, started to
- 3:37Speaker 2: get traffic bodies to the net, and we gave ourselves
- 3:40Speaker 2: an opportunity to come back and win the hockey game,
- 3:42Speaker 2: which we did.
- 3:43Speaker 3: But we can't keep doing this. This is not a
- 3:45Speaker 3: formula for success.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Well was that message in between period two and three.
- 3:48Speaker 3: It was pretty short.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It was just a matter of trying to have our
- 3:52Speaker 2: guys understand that that's not good enough and we've got
- 3:57Speaker 2: a lot more to give, and if you give it,
- 4:01Speaker 2: you've got.
- 4:01Speaker 3: An opportunity to win a hockey game.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Oscar Fisker Mulgarn had an assist in his first NHL game.
- 4:06Speaker 1: What did you make of his night?
- 4:08Speaker 3: I thought he played well.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You know, obviously, like you say, he got a point
- 4:13Speaker 2: in his first game. That's a huge you know, I
- 4:15Speaker 2: guess weight off your shoulders, but certainly I thought he
- 4:20Speaker 2: managed the puck. I thought he used his speed and
- 4:23Speaker 2: I thought he did some smart things defensively, so you know,
- 4:27Speaker 2: as we go forward here, you know, we look to
- 4:29Speaker 2: try and see if we can get him a little
- 4:30Speaker 2: more ice time.
