Latest / FSU Football: Doak Talk / MIKE NORVELL's JOB on the LINE: Can FSU Reach 8 WINS?!
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: We spoke about the schedule, right? What does that mean
- 0:03Speaker 1: for Mike Norvell and his job and that type of deal?
- 0:07Speaker 1: That's the burning question that everybody wants to know, right?
- 0:10Speaker 1: And there's been news coming out saying that, you know,
- 0:14Speaker 1: maybe Florida State will keep him or they don't want
- 0:16Speaker 1: to fire him and this, that, and third. Guys, it's
- 0:19Speaker 1: the same news. It's the same thing. This isn't anything new, right?
- 0:24Speaker 1: This is the same news we knew in June, July.
- 0:31Speaker 1: pretty much preseason, all offseason, going into the season, that, yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 1: no shit. It's a no-burner that the administration don't want
- 0:39Speaker 1: to fire Mike Novell. That's not surprising. They don't want
- 0:44Speaker 1: to fire Mike Novell. They don't want to have to
- 0:45Speaker 1: pay him X amount of money for the buyout, this, that,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and the third. They don't want to be on the
- 0:49Speaker 1: hook for that type of money if it doesn't work out.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Of course they don't. Now, if you keep losing this, that,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and the third, and the Romans keep getting louder and louder,
- 0:58Speaker 1: It is to a point to where it's undeniable that
- 1:00Speaker 1: you have to fire him, right? But no, don't get
- 1:02Speaker 1: it twisted. Do they want to fire Mike Novell? No.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The running thought is that Mike Novell would get himself fired.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I told you guys preseason I felt like eight wins
- 1:13Speaker 1: was the measuring stick if he wins. If he gets
- 1:16Speaker 1: to eight wins, I feel like his job would have
- 1:18Speaker 1: been saved preseason. I don't think you could fire him
- 1:21Speaker 1: for winning eight games. Well, you could, but I don't
- 1:24Speaker 1: think it would be In their eyes, I don't feel
- 1:28Speaker 1: like that would be a justifiable fire to win eight games.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I'll put it that way. In the administration's eyes, they
- 1:33Speaker 1: wouldn't do it based upon eight wins. Seven wins, I
- 1:36Speaker 1: said it could get sticky and dicey depending on how
- 1:38Speaker 1: the seven wins look. You play competitive, beat a Florida, Miami,
- 1:44Speaker 1: or Clemson, something along those lines, or Alabama, which you have.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You already lost to Alabama, so Florida, Miami, or Clemson.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Then it'll be a conversation on possibly. But even then,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I feel like that would be a little bit murky.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You win two games, five games, and seven. I think
- 1:58Speaker 1: they are, in my opinion, but again, I'm not making
- 2:01Speaker 1: a decision. I said it's preseason as well. That'll be
- 2:03Speaker 1: a discussion depending on how those seven look. But I
- 2:06Speaker 1: would probably end things like that. But I feel like
- 2:09Speaker 1: eight plus, he's good to go. Again, that has been
- 2:12Speaker 1: a thought since preseason. Now, we... And the reason the
- 2:16Speaker 1: Rumbles got so big, right, because we saw New Mexico
- 2:20Speaker 1: State 34-17 or some shit like that. We saw New
- 2:23Speaker 1: Mexico State. We saw SMU, how winnable that game was.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We felt like SMU wasn't that good. So based upon
- 2:30Speaker 1: those factors and how the rest of the early teams,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, Louisville, how Louisville looked, and of course Miami
- 2:38Speaker 1: and how Virginia looked against it. So we saw those
- 2:43Speaker 1: first couple games and then how the rest of the
- 2:45Speaker 1: schedule plays, like, oh, there's no way in hell, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 1: he win seven, eight games. This is a three, four,
- 2:51Speaker 1: five-win team. Some people say, you know, only guaranteed win,
- 2:54Speaker 1: which I can understand based upon what we saw was
- 2:57Speaker 1: New Mexico stayed in Central Arkansas. And you pick two
- 3:01Speaker 1: for four wins. So that was the narrative, right? So,
- 3:04Speaker 1: of course, you win four wins, you win five, you
- 3:06Speaker 1: win three, six, 100% Mike Novell gets fired. So let's
- 3:11Speaker 1: put this shit in perspective and be honest. It's not
- 3:14Speaker 1: new news. Nothing is new. It's just what the performances
- 3:18Speaker 1: are and what we've seen. We saw early in the
- 3:20Speaker 1: season how bad things looked, and we felt like there's
- 3:24Speaker 1: no way in hell they could get to eight based
- 3:26Speaker 1: upon how the remainder of the teams look. We saw
- 3:29Speaker 1: Florida looking good early in the season. Now that shit
- 3:31Speaker 1: looks iffy. So what I'm saying is the schedule, all
- 3:36Speaker 1: this shit is fluid pretty much. It's all fluid. I'm
- 3:40Speaker 1: never going to root for FSU to lose anything like that.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So if he gets to eight, that's a conversation that
- 3:44Speaker 1: those guys would have to have. But I just want
- 3:45Speaker 1: to put that in perspective as far as what things
- 3:48Speaker 1: look like for Mike Norvell in Florida as far as
- 3:51Speaker 1: his job security to stay in third. There's no new
- 3:53Speaker 1: information coming out over the administration. The mayor thinking about
- 3:56Speaker 1: keeping him now or he gets this boost, whatever, whatever, whatever. No, man,
- 4:01Speaker 1: these people never wanted to fucking fire him. I mean,
- 4:04Speaker 1: let's be honest. They never wanted to fire him. They
- 4:09Speaker 1: absolutely wanted to work out. In a perfect world, they
- 4:12Speaker 1: wanted to work out. So this is new information. They
- 4:14Speaker 1: wanted to work out. But folks, people thought that there's
- 4:21Speaker 1: no way it could work out. And it was just
- 4:25Speaker 1: a non-avoidable situation of a foregone conclusion that he was
- 4:27Speaker 1: going to get fired. He was going to let the
- 4:29Speaker 1: games play out and he'll fire himself. So we'll see
- 4:31Speaker 1: how the rest of the schedule plays out. But again,
- 4:33Speaker 1: if he wins eight I don't think he would. I
- 4:37Speaker 1: don't think they would make a decision to pull the
- 4:39Speaker 1: plug on Mike Norvell. Seven, we have a conversation depending
- 4:44Speaker 1: on how that looks. Me personally, I would move on
- 4:47Speaker 1: from seven, but I'm not making those decisions. But again,
- 4:51Speaker 1: this isn't new information. This isn't new information. We always
- 4:54Speaker 1: feel like just how the preseason looked, how the first
- 4:58Speaker 1: few games looked, and how the remaining of the schedule
- 5:00Speaker 1: looked within those first few games. People put two and
- 5:03Speaker 1: two together and felt like we couldn't get to this
- 5:04Speaker 1: and couldn't get to that. The only people that kind
- 5:08Speaker 1: of believe are the guys in those locker rooms, inside
- 5:10Speaker 1: the locker room, and they're still performing this down the third.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So we'll see if that belief is still true because, again,
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's Virginia. I felt like they were winning this game.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I picked FSU to win this game. I didn't think
- 5:20Speaker 1: they were winning this fashion and dominate those guys like that,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but I felt like they were winning. The rest of
- 5:25Speaker 1: the schedule, the rest of these games is what kind
- 5:27Speaker 1: of had my attention as far as what we'll be
- 5:31Speaker 1: looking at moving forward as far as his tenure, right?
- 5:36Speaker 1: I feel like the rest of these three games right
- 5:38Speaker 1: here will pretty much tell the story. We're about to
- 5:41Speaker 1: find out. Again, we're about to find out. But just
- 5:44Speaker 1: looking at how it plays out, man, Louisville looks beatable. Again,
- 5:48Speaker 1: we struggle on the road. We're like Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Hyde when it comes to playing on the road versus
- 5:54Speaker 1: playing away. But Louisville looks pretty damn beatable. Friday nights
- 5:57Speaker 1: do scare me. But again, Louisville looks pretty beatable. I
- 6:00Speaker 1: think Miami would be an L. Clemson definitely looks beatable,
- 6:04Speaker 1: especially that offense. Boston College, role game, still a little beatable.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Pittsburgh are complete. Well, we'll see, but I believe they'll
- 6:11Speaker 1: be a completely different team without Mason, who I think
- 6:13Speaker 1: is one of the better quarterbacks in the ACC. Then,
- 6:16Speaker 1: of course, you have NC State, and you have the
- 6:18Speaker 1: Florida Gators, who they're clearly not a top-ten team. Clearly not.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So we'll see how the remainder of the schedule play out. Again,
- 6:26Speaker 1: just we'll see. No need to– I know everybody wants
- 6:32Speaker 1: breaking news, you know, Every day, this, that, and the third.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Just let the shit play out. Just relax. Let it
- 6:37Speaker 1: play out. The schedule will take care of itself one
- 6:39Speaker 1: way or another. That's my take on that. I just
- 6:42Speaker 1: wanted to address that and say, hey, man, there's no
- 6:44Speaker 1: new information as far as, oh, they want to keep
- 6:46Speaker 1: Martin O'Reilly and things like that. They always want to
- 6:48Speaker 1: keep Martin O'Reilly. Always. People just felt like it would
- 6:52Speaker 1: have been too much of a tall task for Martin
- 6:55Speaker 1: O'Reilly to win a certain amount of games to avoid that. Well,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I guess a certain amount of games to make their
- 7:04Speaker 1: wishes come true and keep him. Everybody thought he would
- 7:06Speaker 1: fall short and make the rumble so loud to his
- 7:09Speaker 1: unavoidable to where you got to pull the plug. So
- 7:11Speaker 1: we'll see how things play out.
