Manuscript Thief Sentenced in California | Art News
A California man named Jeffrey Ying just got sentenced for stealing rare 17th-century Chinese manuscripts from UCLA—using fake names like Alan Fujimori and Jason Wang to sneak them out, swapping originals for fakes and even prepping counterfeit labels to fool the library. Caught after security footage linked his trips to China to the thefts, he’s now facing a month in jail (already served), a year of house arrest, and three years of probation—all for swiping books worth $216,000.
