- 0:25Now let's open our Bibles and study God's Word.
- 0:30Thank you, Pastor Ed. So tonight I'm so honored to be
- 0:35here. It's so nice to be home.
- 0:38It's nice to be here to to kind of just share a little bit about
- 0:41what I've been doing with my family for really the last eight
- 0:45years. Plus the last time I was in this
- 0:48building with my son, I think is when we were sent out because
- 0:51it's either him and his family have been here or we, my wife
- 0:54and I, So we've been kind of, you know, because someone had to
- 0:57watch the dog. We still had a dog in Africa.
- 0:59So the grand puppy. And so pastor had asked me if I
- 1:05had something on my heart that I could share.
- 1:07And it's, it was a quick yes, because hey, when we're in the
- 1:11Lord, man, he's always doing something, He's always saying
- 1:14something, he's always changing something in US.
- 1:17And so I'm, I'm just so happy to be here to share that.
- 1:21And so the title of the message tonight is just passing through.
- 1:25And if you have your Bibles, you can turn to one Peter.
- 1:27That's how we say it in the South Africa one Peter 211.
- 1:32But before we get into that, I want to, I want to just say that
- 1:36even since we've been here, we we were here in June, that we've
- 1:40been to Florida, we've been to Missouri and now back here.
- 1:42And then we head back for Africa on the 12th.
- 1:46In every message that I'm hearing in my daily Bible
- 1:49reading, the Lord is just presenting something really cool
- 1:54as a theme in my heart and getting me excited about the
- 1:56idea of coming back here someday.
- 1:59Because the truth is, and I've lived this, experienced this,
- 2:04that no matter where you are, there's something the Lord would
- 2:07have you to do. So yeah, it's kind of cool that
- 2:10we can be missionaries in South Africa.
- 2:12A long way off. But you know what, right in your
- 2:16own family, right in your own backyard, in your neighborhood,
- 2:19your community, there's something the Lord wants to use
- 2:23you for and it's always going to be for his glory.
- 2:27Amen. And so it, my experience was
- 2:31really good Bible teaching churches, especially like this
- 2:34one. I don't last very long because
- 2:37I'm, I'm taking notes and the Lord speaks to my heart and I'm,
- 2:42I've had times where I'm looking behind me.
- 2:44Are you guys getting this? Are you hearing this?
- 2:46And I realized, no, the Lord is speaking to me.
- 2:49And so I don't last long in those churches because I'm, I'm
- 2:52generally sent out. And so, you know, when disciples
- 2:57send, so this church specifically didn't win me to
- 3:01the Lord. This church didn't specifically
- 3:04at the beginning of my walk with the Lord disciple me, but this
- 3:08church sent me out and this church, you, this, this body of
- 3:12the Lord, this bride of Christ right here that I'm looking at,
- 3:16you've been a part of that, whether you know that or not.
- 3:19And so where we live in South Africa, it's a small surfing
- 3:22village, the geography is beautiful.
- 3:25God's creation is a mountains to the sea.
- 3:29And you know, it's a lovely place to live, but you know,
- 3:34it's the people. And that's really true.
- 3:36Wherever you go, it's going to be people.
- 3:38The Lord is wanting us to connect with people, to listen
- 3:42to people, to even maybe have a broken heart for people as they
- 3:46tell their story of what's happening in their life, to pray
- 3:50with people and hopefully to be connected with people to the
- 3:55point where they enter into the Kingdom of heaven that lasts
- 3:58forever and ever because the King that we serve is sovereign
- 4:02and Provident and eternal, right?
- 4:06And so, so the title is just passing through, but I want to
- 4:10connect some dots with what the Lord's been telling me just
- 4:12since I've been here so recently.
- 4:15Pastor Ed, I think it was last Wednesday night, you know, the
- 4:17song of Moses, and he mentioned the radio in Southern
- 4:20California. K Wave.
- 4:22Well, for me, I'm in a church in Las Vegas of all places.
- 4:27It was a denomination and I was just seeking the Lord.
- 4:30I couldn't get enough of the word.
- 4:33And I turn on the radio and there's Christian radio.
- 4:36I didn't even know Las Vegas had that.
- 4:39In Las Vegas, it was called Calvary Satellite Network.
- 4:42And I turn it on and here's this guy teaching and I just, I hear
- 4:48grace and it's just a simple gospel message.
- 4:52And this guy is actually teaching through a whole book of
- 4:55the Bible, verse by verse. I never heard of that before.
- 4:58His name's Chuck Smith and so that's how I even heard of Chuck
- 5:02Smith. I didn't know about Calvary
- 5:03Chapel. This was in the 90s in Las
- 5:06Vegas. I didn't know that there were
- 5:08five really good Calvary chapels in Las Vegas.
- 5:10So we were going to a Church of that's a denomination and that's
- 5:15that's how I heard about an experience.
- 5:18Wow. It's the whole council of God,
- 5:21just like Pastor Ed teaches about often Genesis to
- 5:25Revelation. It's all the word of God and in
- 5:28there is absolute truth. So I wanted to connect that dot
- 5:32for me personally and what I've been hearing as as far as the
- 5:36full counsel of God. I've already mentioned a little
- 5:39bit, but I had a friend in air traffic control in the control
- 5:43tower in Las Vegas, Mccarran International, He was Mormon.
- 5:47He invited my family to Thanksgiving and we get there
- 5:51and it's very family values and they even hold hands and pray
- 5:55before the meal. But the mom, my friend told me,
- 5:58I just want to tell you my mom, it is about her faith in our
- 6:03religion and and she'll be glad to answer any questions.
- 6:06So people came in from all over the, the country actually for
- 6:11Thanksgiving in this large family, just one husband and one
- 6:15wife, by the way. And they come in, they say, man,
- 6:20I need a Coke, you know. And so I'm scratching my head.
- 6:22I thought that you guys couldn't drink that.
- 6:25I asked the question and they said, oh, yeah, we're allowed to
- 6:28now. So I found out this was a
- 6:30religion that is ever changing as opposed to me growing up in
- 6:36church. And I, I was actually saved at
- 6:38age 5 in Germany at a retreat. My dad was military stationed
- 6:42there, and when I was five years old, I heard a preacher speak of
- 6:49heaven and hell and sin and that we're all born in sin and we're
- 6:54automatically on our way to hell if we don't get right with the
- 6:56Lord. You need to believe in in the
- 6:58finished work of the cross. So at five years old, I'm in
- 7:01tears, my mom saying, Kirk, what's going on?
- 7:04I couldn't verbalize what was happening, but the truth came
- 7:07in. So Fast forward to the 90s and I
- 7:11was doing my own thing like the prodigal son and I knew from
- 7:15this experience with my friend and Thanksgiving and and their
- 7:19faith I needed to find my Bible. And so I get back to our home.
- 7:25We still haven't unpacked everything from our move from
- 7:27Saint Louis to Las Vegas and in the garage boxes from floor to
- 7:31ceiling. And I knew my Bibles when one of
- 7:34those boxes but none of them were marked.
- 7:37So I said, OK, Lord, here we go. I'm going to find my try to find
- 7:41my Bible. So I get the ladder out.
- 7:43I, I grabbed the box in one row on the very top and I pull it
- 7:47down and not only was my Bible in that box, but it was on the
- 7:50very top. And I grabbed my Bible and I
- 7:53started reading it and I promise you, I haven't stopped.
- 7:57There's words of life in here. This, this is the foundation,
- 8:01This is the word of God. It's the authority that we need.
- 8:04It's the absolute truth. It's not just, oh, Kirk, I'm so
- 8:07glad you found the truth that works for you because I heard
- 8:10that often. No, this is the only truth.
- 8:13And that truth is Jesus. Amen.
- 8:18And so, you know, and in the word of God, the whole council
- 8:21of God can be milk. Peter talks about let pure milk,
- 8:25like when you're a babe in Christ, you need that to grow,
- 8:28but it can also be like solid food.
- 8:32We we see that in one Corinthians.
- 8:33You know, Paul speaking to the Corinthians, he wanted to give
- 8:37them solid food. I call it a steak dinner.
- 8:39But so, but whatever you need, you get into the word.
- 8:43And like Pastor Ed said last week, we're not going to
- 8:47understand everything, but read until you do.
- 8:49There's going to be things that will jump out of the page and it
- 8:52will be just for you. It's going to be that nugget
- 8:55that you need to move on and to grow in who Christ is.
- 9:01Also recently Pastor Ed talked about Paul on the beach at my
- 9:08elitist and he's speaking to the Ephesian elders and he gives a
- 9:11warning, a stern warning that when I leave there's going to be
- 9:15an attack from within and without.
- 9:18And I've experienced that in our ministry in Las Vegas.
- 9:22It started as an outreach to the homeless and the street people,
- 9:26the people that a lot of them were addicted and it kept
- 9:31growing and growing. So the Lord decided to make it a
- 9:34church. We were Calvary Chapel downtown
- 9:36Las Vegas. But through my life and
- 9:40ministry, especially as a pastor, there's, there's almost
- 9:43this continual attacks and it's a spiritual battle.
- 9:47Remember, it's not people it it's the dominion that's dark.
- 9:52But you know what the light of Christ supersedes any darkness.
- 9:57So you might feel like your light is just a little bitty,
- 10:01but I promise you from experience, if you're
- 10:04surrendered to the Lord and you're, you're just seeking his
- 10:06face like you hear a lot from this church as you're walking
- 10:10about, that little bitty light will supersede any darkness,
- 10:13even the scariest thing, because why?
- 10:16Perfect love that's from Christ will, will supersede and and
- 10:21override any darkness. Amen.
- 10:25And so, so these are all things that I related to.
- 10:28And then specifically in Las Vegas, the reason I became a
- 10:32pastor, a senior pastor for the first time at age 49.
- 10:36I retired from air traffic control after 30 years.
- 10:39And, and for years before this, my pastor there of, of the
- 10:42Calvary outreach called me his assistant.
- 10:44And I thought, man, don't put a label on me.
- 10:46Don't put a trip on me, but when he was gone, I would teach.
- 10:50So I've always loved teaching. As soon as I started reading the
- 10:52Bible, the Lord started opening opportunity for me to teach the
- 10:57Word. And I love that.
- 10:58I love to study. I love to just dig in.
- 11:01And I have found after all these years, now you can't get to the
- 11:05end of this Word of God. It's too big, it's too strong,
- 11:09it's too deep and wide. It's so powerful.
- 11:12And so it's a journey and I love that, you know, I think one day
- 11:18when we're face to face with the Lord in our new bodies, which I
- 11:21can't wait for, I'm interested to see if I'm going to have hair
- 11:24again, at least on top of my head.
- 11:28I think we're going to have perfect understanding.
- 11:30So there's many things I still don't understand, but I can tell
- 11:34you, I've walked so many different paths that this is
- 11:39where I find where I can walk and I can grow in grace and
- 11:43knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 11:46And so in our little church in South Africa, one of the main
- 11:51things themes the Lord's put on my heart is Jesus, I trust you.
- 11:56And I'm very honest with our congregation.
- 11:58I can be honest to say, just like King David, sometimes I'm
- 12:01just muttering that Jesus, I trust you, you know, and really,
- 12:05maybe my heart's not quite there, but just like King David
- 12:09said, bless the Lord, O my soul. I kind of sense that he's
- 12:14talking to himself. He's talking, you know, bless
- 12:16the Lord. Meanwhile, he's sometimes hiding
- 12:19in a cave, he's dodging Spears, all the stuff that, you know,
- 12:26you couldn't live through without the Lord.
- 12:28But but we can, we can talk to ourselves, Lord, I trust you.
- 12:33And sometimes our faith will even be lacking.
- 12:37But as we keep surrender to the Lord and we're walking in faith,
- 12:41OK, Jesus, I trust you. He's going to honor that, He's
- 12:44going to bless that. And he's he's going to let that
- 12:46grow because you know, he's the God who does that.
- 12:51He's the one that reaches down and he lifts up.
- 12:54And so as soon as our pastor died in in Las Vegas, well,
- 13:01actually this is before he died, but he was very sick with
- 13:04cancer. A guy shows up with a guitar
- 13:06from Florida and he, he said that he was a worship leader at
- 13:10a Calvary Chapel that was very large.
- 13:12And if I gave you the name of the pastor, you would know who
- 13:14that is. And so our pastor was not only
- 13:17the pastor, but he was the worship leader.
- 13:19And so he couldn't do that anymore.
- 13:20He had terrible cancer throughout his whole body.
- 13:23And so we had this guy from Florida come to my pastor's
- 13:28living room and almost like an interview we've been praying
- 13:31about, you know, and we all had kind of a thumbs up.
- 13:35Well, it turns out that this guy was a wolf.
- 13:38And so that was an experience that, you know, helped me grow
- 13:42as a soon to be senior pastor. And then also in that same
- 13:49church in Las Vegas, the went from an outreach to a church.
- 13:54There was a guy, I won't give his name, but, but he, he was on
- 13:59a roller coaster ride with his faith.
- 14:01If he would have mountaintops and he would have Lolo valleys
- 14:05and he was one of the street people who got saved.
- 14:09He, he did so well that we sent him to Bible college there in
- 14:13Marietta. And, and then he, all of a
- 14:16sudden he's missing in action. And so one Sunday I'm teaching
- 14:19one Corinthians and I'm thinking about this guy.
- 14:21I, I would always just sit in the car and pray and, and just
- 14:24be prepared. And I asked the Lord, Lord,
- 14:28would you just show me a glimpse of how much you love this guy?
- 14:31I won't say his name. And I all of a sudden I had this
- 14:39very weighty, like heavy sense of how much the Lord loved him
- 14:44that I almost felt like I was going to die.
- 14:47I can hardly breathe. Just like I am now at high
- 14:49altitude, I was weeping and the Lord showed me just a glimpse of
- 14:54how much he loved him. I'm saying all of this to
- 14:58connect with where we're going to go in Scripture.
- 15:00But I can tell you right now that the Lord loves you and he
- 15:05loves that person in your life that you maybe can't stand.
- 15:08He loves the person in your life that maybe knew him and has
- 15:12tried to run from him. See, that was me at one point
- 15:16and and we can pray, you know, Lord, show me how much you love
- 15:19that person. Be specific and keep that person
- 15:22in prayer. Pray for, OK, if it's not going
- 15:25to be you that turns that person around, put someone in their
- 15:28path that will do that. Let's get to the Word.
- 15:33By the way, Jesus is good and He's the center of everything.
- 15:37That's important. And so that's the whole premise
- 15:40and foundation of my life right now.
- 15:42Let me read one Peter chapter 2, verses 11 and 12.
- 15:49The Bible says, Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims,
- 15:55abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having
- 16:00your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak
- 16:05against you as evil doers, they may by your good works which
- 16:10they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
- 16:15Lord, I lift up your word and I thank you that you promised it
- 16:18will not return to you void, but it will accomplish perfectly
- 16:22exactly what you sent it out to do.
- 16:24I pray for maybe someone listening either in this
- 16:27building or on the radio or or however they hear that person
- 16:32who's running from you or maybe that person who doesn't really
- 16:35know you yet. Lord, I pray by your spirit and
- 16:38by your word, you would break into their life, into their
- 16:41heart, into their mind, Lord, that they would have an about
- 16:48face that they would leave their path and join the path that
- 16:52you've made for them and eternity past.
- 16:54Lord, so we give this time to you.
- 16:57We thank you for your word that's perfect in Jesus name,
- 17:00Amen. So let's break this down a
- 17:01little bit. First of all, notice the first
- 17:04word beloved in King James is dearly beloved in other
- 17:09translations, maybe maybe good friends.
- 17:12But my first point so far is that beloved connects with our
- 17:20identity in Christ. We need to know that he loves
- 17:24his church just like Pastor Ed. It was explained the other day.
- 17:28He looks at his bride with affection, with a love that we
- 17:34can't even be define. It's a special love.
- 17:37And so we need to know as we're walking about following the Lord
- 17:42or released, desiring to, that we have an identity now in
- 17:46Christ. Remember, we've had a past, you
- 17:50know, we were away from the Lord and then the Holy Spirit now
- 17:53opens our eyes and spiritually our eyes are open and all of a
- 17:57sudden we are brand new and one of the titles we have now from
- 18:02the Lord is beloved. I'm saying that in the old
- 18:05fashioned way, like dearly beloved, like a wedding, but
- 18:08your beloved. And that is so important.
- 18:12So many Christians in my life through the years, we lose sight
- 18:16of who we are in the Lord. We need to know our identity in
- 18:20the Lord because see, in the Lord, worldly definitions go
- 18:26away and there's new definitions.
- 18:29For example, a man of God is going to be a man that's humble
- 18:34and yet bold. See, we're going to be a bold
- 18:36witness for the glory of Christ and for who He is, and we're
- 18:41going to do that with boldness, but yet with humility.
- 18:45See, now the new strong man in the Lord is one who is humble.
- 18:53See, that way He as the Potter can work in our hearts.
- 18:58He's always wanting to mold and shape us even into His image.
- 19:03And so when we become brand new in the Lord, we are identified
- 19:07in the Lord. Many, many ways to look that up
- 19:11in Scripture, let me give you a couple in Ephesians 210, Paul
- 19:17says, for we are his workmanship.
- 19:20That word is Poema, the same title of ministry that Bob Clay
- 19:25Camp is in, where his like poem were like his fabric.
- 19:29I'll talk about that in a second.
- 19:31We're created in Christ Jesus for good works which God
- 19:34prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
- 19:37And so we're a new creation. This workmanship can be like
- 19:40this fabric that the Lord is weaving together, and I think
- 19:45it's cross stitch. I don't know because I don't do
- 19:47that. But on one side you see this
- 19:49beautiful work of art, but on that, on the other side, it's a
- 19:52mess. So sometimes I look in the
- 19:55mirror, I know who I really AM, and it's a mess.
- 19:57But the Lord, as I'm surrendered to him, he's doing this work.
- 20:01And so, so he's turning ashes into beauty, you see.
- 20:07So my first point is we need to know who we are in Christ.
- 20:11He's our identity. For your notes, for your
- 20:13homework, look at Ephesians and Colossians.
- 20:15You're going to see phrases like in him, in Christ, with him.
- 20:19All these things connect with who we are in Christ.
- 20:23Ephesians and Colossians will give you a great head start in
- 20:26that homework. So we're identified in Christ
- 20:28where his beloved. Also Psalm 13913 and 14 in
- 20:34Colossians 127. The Bible is full of how we can
- 20:37be identified in Christ. Notice also in verse 11, I beg
- 20:43you as sojourners and pilgrims, I want to, I want to point out
- 20:47something here. When you think about your new
- 20:51life in Christ and we're identified in Christ, we now
- 20:54have a past and a present and a future.
- 20:57I think of Abram who became Abraham.
- 21:01Remember he was called to leave his country or of the Chaldeans.
- 21:05The Lord said, I'm going, I'm going to bring you to a place.
- 21:08He didn't say where. And so Abram packed up with his
- 21:12wife and some family members and he started moving.
- 21:15So then he had a past. He had a a past homeland.
- 21:20And so we see that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and many people in
- 21:23the Bible, they had a past place that they lived, but they become
- 21:29sojourners. So the word sojourner can be
- 21:32translated as stranger, but in some ways that means where
- 21:35you're from. So when we're new in Christ,
- 21:39this world is no longer our home.
- 21:41That's kind of the main point of the message I'm just passing
- 21:43through. But now we become pilgrims and
- 21:46we see that connected with Abraham and others in the Bible.
- 21:51You know, like John Wayne would say Pilgrim.
- 21:54He had that part, right? I don't know about his life in
- 21:57Christ or anything like that, but we have a past.
- 21:59We're sojourners, and now we're pilgrims.
- 22:02That's our present and our future.
- 22:04And I want to point out some verses that would help us along
- 22:09in that. We're on a mission and we're in
- 22:11a foreign country. In Matthew 2535, Jesus says, for
- 22:15I was hungry and you gave me food.
- 22:17I was thirsty and you gave me drink.
- 22:19I was a stranger and you took me in that word.
- 22:22Stranger can be translated Sojourner and then Ephesians
- 22:27219. Now, therefore, you are no
- 22:31longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the
- 22:34Saints and members of the household of God.
- 22:37So, so not to be confusing, but we have a past now Christ comes
- 22:43in, we are identified by him, and now we're moving on a new
- 22:47path. Originally it's a narrow gate
- 22:51and the Bible says Jesus says that it's a difficult path, but
- 22:55that's the path that he has for us.
- 22:57And it's so worthwhile to walk this path to trust Jesus on this
- 23:03new journey. And I can tell you from
- 23:05experience, most of my life now is this question mark, and I
- 23:10call it the blessed question mark.
- 23:12When I moved to South Africa, I knew that the Lord would find
- 23:16something for me to do for His glory, but I didn't know what
- 23:18that was. When I moved to South Africa was
- 23:21really under the calling an umbrella of my son.
- 23:24What a blessing that is to say, you know, and, and I give all
- 23:30glory to the Lord because see, there were things that I did,
- 23:33choices I made in my son's life in the past that that for him to
- 23:38be who he is in Christ. It's not because of me.
- 23:41It's it in some ways in spite of me, but that's true for all of
- 23:45us. It's Jesus.
- 23:46It's the Holy Spirit who does the work.
- 23:49But, but, but we're on this beautiful path.
- 23:53We're on a mission and and so we're in a foreign country.
- 23:56I have more to say about that in a minute.
- 23:57Back to our verse though as abstain from fleshly lusts which
- 24:02war against the soul. I call them distractions as a
- 24:07Christ follower. The enemy is always attacking
- 24:10and he wants us to be distracted.
- 24:12He wants us to to be sideways is how we set it on the streets of
- 24:15Vegas. You know we want to be vertical.
- 24:18See when I get sideways now my focus is down below the eyes of
- 24:24the Lord. I am now distracted and and so
- 24:28I'm going to make choices in my flesh, but when I'm reporting
- 24:32for duty or if I'm looking up, I'm going to find grace in the
- 24:36eyes of the Lord, just like Noah.
- 24:37Did you read that in Genesis? And and so we need to watch out
- 24:44for for distractions and traps and and weights and snares and
- 24:48two Timothy 226. The Bible says in that we may
- 24:52come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having
- 24:57been taken captive by him to do his will.
- 24:59See, when we're distracted, then, then the the enemy's going
- 25:04to, you know, come in and and do his work.
- 25:07Hebrews 12/1 and two. Therefore we also, since we are
- 25:11surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside
- 25:15every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us and let us
- 25:20run with endurance. The race that is set before us
- 25:23in verse two is I mean, it's one of those wow verses, looking
- 25:28unto Jesus, the author and finisher, the starter and the
- 25:32finisher, that the beginning and the end of our faith, who for
- 25:36the joy that was set before him endure the cross, despising the
- 25:40shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- 25:45Wow. And then we need to see also in
- 25:49that verse that there is a war raging for your soul.
- 25:53In Luke 22 verse 31, remember Jesus is speaking to Peter and
- 26:00he says, Simon, Simon, indeed, Satan has asked for you that he
- 26:04may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you that
- 26:08your faith should not fail. And when you have returned to
- 26:12me, strengthen your brethren. We need to know and I, I know
- 26:16you hear that from Pastor Ed and other teachers here often
- 26:20there's a war raging, but it's a spiritual battle.
- 26:24It's it's not a human, it's not a face.
- 26:26It's going to be, it's going to be bigger and deeper than that.
- 26:30But you know what, in Christ, we don't walk in fear.
- 26:34We, we are walking very boldly by the strength of the Lord.
- 26:39It's all him. So if it were just in the flesh,
- 26:41we don't have a chance. But if it's the Lord working in
- 26:45US and through us, if his Spirit is upon us to overflowing, then
- 26:50look out. And, and so just so we know,
- 26:52just as a reminder, you know, I come back after lots of years
- 26:56and I'm intentionally not involved in, you know, I don't,
- 26:58I'm not aware of politics, except for South Africans, my
- 27:03friends, they love America and they love to catch me up on all
- 27:05the stuff. And sometimes if we're not
- 27:09careful, we do get sideways and, and all of a sudden those, the
- 27:12thing that's going on, those distractions that kind of weighs
- 27:15us down. But see, we can be assured, we
- 27:20can rest assured that the Lord is in control and that he is the
- 27:26beginning and end for us and that this world is no longer our
- 27:30home. We're just passing through.
- 27:32And so we know the end of the story.
- 27:34We know that our Lord and Savior Jesus, the King of kings and
- 27:40Lord of Lords, he, he, he's going to reign forever and ever,
- 27:44and and so all other kings and kingdoms will fall away.
- 27:48So we don't have to live in fear.
- 27:50We don't have to be angry. We don't have to be bitter.
- 27:53Those are just distractions. Let's keep our eyes on the Lord
- 27:56and, and what's important. And he wants to use us, among
- 28:00many other things, to be a light and a dark place and
- 28:03specifically for people. See, whether you know it or not,
- 28:08or whether you want to or not, you're all missionaries right
- 28:11here. I was a missionary in inner city
- 28:14Las Vegas. I was a missionary in Denver for
- 28:17five years. I am a missionary now in South
- 28:20Africa. That's just our life among many
- 28:23other things, but it's all Jesus.
- 28:25OK, let's move on. Verse 12, having your conduct
- 28:30honorable among the Gentiles. This idea that our contact, our
- 28:38conduct, especially when it's honorable, it speaks of our
- 28:42character. We might even say our integrity.
- 28:46We might even connect with Scripture and say, you know,
- 28:48Jesus taught let your yes be yes and your no be no.
- 28:53That might even break out revival if we just all started
- 28:56doing that. If it's like we're in the word,
- 28:58we're being led by him and I'm going to do what I say because
- 29:03it's the Lord telling me he's giving direction by his word and
- 29:06I'm going to let my yes be yes. And so honorable contact conduct
- 29:10speaks of our character moving on, it says among the Gentiles.
- 29:16Now, in context, Peter's writing to Jewish believers, remember
- 29:20there was this scattering of Jewish people from Jerusalem to
- 29:24the whole world. And he's writing to them and
- 29:26he's trying to encourage them and to to build them up.
- 29:31And so in this case, the Gentiles would be unbelievers.
- 29:35So here we are. We're not of this world any
- 29:38longer. We're passing through, but the
- 29:40Lord is going to put unbelievers in our life.
- 29:43So with our honorable conduct, our integrity, we can actually
- 29:48be a vessel of God that would draw people into the Kingdom of
- 29:51God, where Jesus is king. Let's keep moving.
- 29:57So it says that when they speak against you as evil, do doers
- 30:05notice the word? When it's going to happen,
- 30:08people will be people unbelievers, they don't know any
- 30:12better. We there's no room for us to be
- 30:15mad at unbelievers when we're sharing the gospel.
- 30:17The Bible is very clear in one Corinthians that they're not
- 30:20they can't even discern spiritual things.
- 30:22We need to be born again to understand those things.
- 30:25So our our orders from the Lord is just be obedient to the
- 30:30faith, walk and trust. But as they speak evil against
- 30:35us, they may by your good works which they observe, glorify God
- 30:43on the day of visitation. So let's connect some dots here.
- 30:47So we're we're walking among those without faith. 2
- 30:50Corinthians 215 and 16 says, For we are to God the fragrance of
- 30:56Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are
- 31:00perishing. So we are the fragrance of God
- 31:03regardless of who they are. Verse 16 to the one we are the
- 31:07aroma of death leading to death. In other words, many times when
- 31:13we're encountering unbelievers and we're reaching out and you
- 31:16know, like sharing about Christ, we're kind of stinky to them
- 31:21until they get saved. And to the other, the aroma of
- 31:26life leading to life. Who is sufficient for these
- 31:29things? Question mark none of us are.
- 31:32It's all from the Lord. And so just want to finish up
- 31:37real quickly. We're running out of time.
- 31:39But this day of visitation, we see in Scripture that the Lord
- 31:43has visited this earth and he's done that in many ways and he's
- 31:47done that in in special, beautiful ways, including in
- 31:51Luke chapter one, verse 68. This is the account of the
- 31:56father of John the Baptist. He says blessed is the Lord God
- 31:59of Israel for he has visited and redeemed his people later in
- 32:04that chapter and verse 78 through the tender mercy of our
- 32:07God, which with which the dayspring from on high has
- 32:10visited us. I'm just showing some verses
- 32:12where the Lord has visited his people.
- 32:16Jesus says in Luke chapter 19 verse 43 and 44 for days will
- 32:20come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around
- 32:23you. Speaking of Jerusalem, surround
- 32:25you and close you in on every side and level you and your
- 32:29children within you to the ground and they will not leave
- 32:33you will they will not leave in you one stone upon another
- 32:37because you did not know the time of your visitation.
- 32:40There's this idea that the Lord has visited specifically you
- 32:44visited Israel and the Jews. Remember Jesus was a Jew and in
- 32:50some ways they said no thank you.
- 32:53But there's going to be a final visitation.
- 32:55In fact, it's in two parts. He's going to visit us in the
- 32:58clouds for his church, and we're going to be snatched up with him
- 33:02as his body, as his bride, and then he's going to return with
- 33:05us. He's going to lead us on white
- 33:09horses. And we see that in Revelation
- 33:11Chapter 9. If you're taking notes, verses
- 33:1311 through 16. So.
- 33:16So what's the point of all this? I wanted to connect the dots
- 33:20real quick. We're almost out of time.
- 33:22But what? Especially when I've moved to
- 33:24South Africa, there was lots of changes.
- 33:28First of all, you're you're sitting on the other side of the
- 33:30car when you're driving. You're driving on the other side
- 33:33of the road. Their English, which there's
- 33:37eleven official languages, they all speak English.
- 33:40They speak that better than I do.
- 33:42But it's the UK form of English, so it's different and there's
- 33:46accents. Everything is new.
- 33:49When you're driving down the road, you have to consider that
- 33:54there's going to be pedestrians on your left side, there's going
- 33:57to be bicycles, there's going to be small motorcycles delivering
- 34:01food in between lanes because that's legal.
- 34:05It's two way traffic where we live, very small town, but it's
- 34:08busy. So all these changes help me to
- 34:13see that. Wait a minute, I already knew
- 34:15that this world's not my home. But when you're in a foreign
- 34:18country and there's so many different changes going on in
- 34:21your life, that helps me to consider, oh, wait a minute,
- 34:25since I'm just visiting and I'm actually an ambassador for
- 34:29Christ, for his glory, I'm representing the king, the only
- 34:33king. I don't have any right to change
- 34:36policy. I'm just representing the king
- 34:38in his policy. It's it's so now gas is called
- 34:43petrol and it's not gallons, it's liters and it's centimeters
- 34:49and not inches. All these changes is like, OK,
- 34:54now I get it, Lord, what it means to be I'm just passing
- 34:57through this world's not my own. So, so as a foreigner in a
- 35:03foreign country, I really, I don't have many rights.
- 35:07In fact, I signed away some rights, you know, I will not
- 35:11earn wages and which I'm glad not to.
- 35:14The Lord's blessed me with a retirement and so I wanted to
- 35:18connect out for you in application here.
- 35:21We are in Denver, Co, so living in South Africa for eight years.
- 35:25When I come back here, it's like a whole different foreign
- 35:27country again. And so even at my older age,
- 35:31it's easy for me to change sides in the car and drive on the
- 35:34other side of the road. That's easy.
- 35:36That's like second nature. If you can drive, you can.
- 35:38Everyone in this room can do what I'm talking about but.
- 35:41But this idea now is really ingrained in my heart that, for
- 35:47example, our church here loaned my wife and I had the church van
- 35:52for a couple days. And so today we took our
- 35:54grandkids for miniature golf and we did some bowling.
- 35:58But we're out and about in the van and stuff happens when
- 36:02you're driving. Amen.
- 36:04And I'm thinking, OK, not only is this idea of a foreign
- 36:07country, but now I'm in a church van, I better be very careful
- 36:11what I'm doing, how I'm driving. I better obey the rules.
- 36:15When someone honks at me, I just wave at them and say, sorry,
- 36:19It's a whole different. It's that's just the way of to
- 36:22think now. And I think it's a spiritual
- 36:25thing. I think it's a scriptural way to
- 36:27go, a way of life that now I'm just passing through.
- 36:31And now my prayers, Lord. OK, I'm excited.
- 36:34You know, at my age, I do an inventory.
- 36:36Can I get out of bed or not? And I, you know, I'm doing like,
- 36:39oh, yeah, that works. OK, I can move about.
- 36:41OK, Lord, what do you have for me today?
- 36:44Give me something fresh from you.
- 36:46Put someone in my path today that I can just reflect your
- 36:50love and let me do it in a way that doesn't disrespect you,
- 36:55Lord. So it's way bigger than driving
- 36:59a church van. It's way bigger than living in a
- 37:01foreign country. It's now I'm representing my
- 37:05King of kings, the one who loves me, who I'm identified with that
- 37:09now I'm a sojourner. I have a past, and now I'm a
- 37:13Pilgrim moving forward. And in this idea that our God is
- 37:18a God of now, he's always doing something right now.
- 37:21He's not trapped in our calendars and schedules.
- 37:24Amen. And so, so my prayer would be
- 37:28that that you got a nugget from this and that maybe maybe you're
- 37:33being distracted, maybe, you know, the enemy's kind of
- 37:36messing with you, maybe just life in general.
- 37:39I mean, Denver is way bigger and busier than when I moved away.
- 37:44And a lot going on worldwide. I've been to Jacksonville.
- 37:47That's a busy city. Saint Louis is a mess.
- 37:50Always love the Cardinals. Go Cardinals anyway, there's
- 38:02grace in there. But my heart would say trust
- 38:09Jesus. If you've heard nothing else,
- 38:14start this, this motto. Jesus, I trust you.
- 38:18If I would get a tattoo and I'm too chicken too, and I whatever
- 38:22I would, I would probably put on there, Jesus, I trust you.
- 38:24I don't know where I would put it, but but, but it's so
- 38:27important. We need to trust Jesus.
- 38:31He, he has proved himself worthy of our trust.
- 38:34Amen. So let's pray.
- 38:36Lord, I thank you for your word. I thank you that you speak to
- 38:40us. I thank you that you're our
- 38:42identity. I thank you, Lord, that you've
- 38:45given us precious promises. Peter would say, and I thank
- 38:49you, Lord, that you promised that one day you'll return for
- 38:52your church. And so Lord, I, I pray that you
- 38:54would help us to be ready. And if there's someone listening
- 38:57that they don't know you yet, Lord, I pray your spirit would
- 39:00breakthrough right now that they would have this experience in
- 39:05their heart and their lives, Lord, that that they would find
- 39:08you as the answer to everything that you are the way, the truth
- 39:12and the life. And no one can go to the Father
- 39:14except by you, Lord. And so we just thank you that we
- 39:17can trust you and we love you in Jesus name, Amen.
