- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let's do the free agency thing. We go
- 0:02Speaker 1: to the Ramos Law hotline. Car accident you need ramos
- 0:05Speaker 1: Law medical doctor and attorney. Visit Ramoslaw dot com. Jeff
- 0:09Speaker 1: Legwall of ESPN joins us right now, LEGI, you don't
- 0:13Speaker 1: have to introduce yourself to anybody. It's all you know,
- 0:18Speaker 1: everyone that's going to be in the Broncos locker room
- 0:21Speaker 1: next year. Nobody knew invited to the party. It's everybody's
- 0:26Speaker 1: friends from their class last year are going to be
- 0:29Speaker 1: in their class this year for the Denver Broncos. Why
- 0:34Speaker 1: didn't they do anything today?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Jeff, Well, they you know, we talked a little bit
- 0:40Speaker 2: about it Friday. They've been active in free agency. But
- 0:44Speaker 2: guess what they want their own guys and you know,
- 0:48Speaker 2: print up the run it back T shirts. But you know,
- 0:52Speaker 2: by my count, that's now seventeen players since the start
- 0:57Speaker 2: of twenty twenty four training camp that would have been
- 1:02Speaker 2: unrestricted free agents that they have signed of their own guys.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'm not sure I've ever covered a team uh that
- 1:10Speaker 2: did that like in this in this fashion, but that's
- 1:13Speaker 2: what seven players this year, Seven of their own free
- 1:18Speaker 2: agents they've resigned.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Let's let's talk about the linebackers and bring the Max
- 1:24Speaker 1: Singleton and Sternad. We're seeing reports that they're gonna cut
- 1:27Speaker 1: Drake Greenlaw.
- 1:29Speaker 2: They have informed him.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, in a big picture since in that specific position, specifically,
- 1:38Speaker 1: why is it so important for vance Joseph to have
- 1:41Speaker 1: guys coming back that he knows and trusts and knows
- 1:45Speaker 1: can handle exactly everything he's gonna put on their plate.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Well, I think because they know in house that there's
- 1:51Speaker 2: a good chance there's a rookie in the mix here,
- 1:55Speaker 2: you know, and that the other players in the depth
- 1:58Speaker 2: chart are younger guys. So Singleton's big in that equation. So,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know, Schmedding, the inside linebacker coach, has joked with
- 2:07Speaker 2: me Singleton's like having advanced Joseph in a defensive huddle.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But he knows that, like Schmedding has said, you know,
- 2:14Speaker 2: sometimes he finds himself asking Singleton a question about the scheme.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So he can't underestimate what they think of Alex in house.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And you know, look, I know we all see him
- 2:28Speaker 2: isolated on a tight end from time to time, and
- 2:31Speaker 2: he gets you know, he gets hammered on those plays.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But he did have one hundred and thirty five tackle season,
- 2:38Speaker 2: you know, after cancer surgery, no less, and for one
- 2:42Speaker 2: of the league's best defenses. And he has been for
- 2:46Speaker 2: one of the most unheralded signings of a free agent
- 2:49Speaker 2: here in a long time. When he arrived, he's been
- 2:51Speaker 2: one of the most durable guys. So that that seems
- 2:54Speaker 2: like a safe bet for them, that they wanted to
- 2:57Speaker 2: make and that they know, given again what we talked
- 3:00Speaker 2: about on Friday, you know, what they showed at the
- 3:04Speaker 2: combine is there's a good shot one of these first
- 3:07Speaker 2: two draft picks, or somebody on Day one or Day
- 3:11Speaker 2: two is an inside linebacker and with the career arc
- 3:16Speaker 2: to play soon, I think it to me, I'll be
- 3:20Speaker 2: shocked if one of those early picks isn't that inside linebacker.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Okay, how does this offense get better with largely the
- 3:27Speaker 3: same personnel.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It's an excellent question, Andy, They you know, the impact,
- 3:33Speaker 2: especially the tight ends, you know, Troutman back, Atkins back,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I would expect, at least judging by the fan reaction
- 3:42Speaker 2: I've gotten. You know, people want more at the tight
- 3:45Speaker 2: end spot, and they need more. You know, they got
- 3:47Speaker 2: three touchdowns from the group last year. None of them
- 3:51Speaker 2: averaged more than nine point two a catch, not not
- 3:54Speaker 2: a single one. So again maybe their eye is on
- 3:58Speaker 2: April there, and you know, it just looks to me
- 4:03Speaker 2: they've I think they have nine picks in this draft,
- 4:08Speaker 2: and it looks to me like you know, judging. You know, now,
- 4:13Speaker 2: free agency, you know, we all look at the first
- 4:16Speaker 2: twelve hours and decide. But you know, they signed Dobbins
- 4:20Speaker 2: in June last year, so they're still going to be
- 4:23Speaker 2: looking at people and adding people. But this early stuff
- 4:27Speaker 2: is all their own guys, and they offensively, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 2: they must think Davis Webb is going to make a
- 4:35Speaker 2: very big difference.
- 4:36Speaker 4: What about Rico Dadel Is he still in play? Do
- 4:39Speaker 4: you think? Or is that off the table? With the
- 4:40Speaker 4: Dobbins signing.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I just thought he was a good pit. You know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: if I'm him, why would you come here? You know
- 4:46Speaker 2: Harvey's here and you know Dobbins is here. Why would
- 4:48Speaker 2: you take your free agency swing unless you you just
- 4:52Speaker 2: wanted to be with a good team or you had
- 4:54Speaker 2: some relationship with a coach or two here. But I
- 4:58Speaker 2: think if you're a running back in free a agency,
- 5:00Speaker 2: this doesn't look awesome here right now. He brought back
- 5:03Speaker 2: the two guys he wants to hand the ball to
- 5:05Speaker 2: the most.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Talking to Jeff Legwald here on Free agency Monday, Jeff
- 5:11Speaker 1: revisiting the tight end thing. And you know, Andy and
- 5:14Speaker 1: I have been talking about drafting a tight end first
- 5:16Speaker 1: couple of rounds. Like tight ends, that's one of those
- 5:18Speaker 1: positions you can be good right away. You can be
- 5:20Speaker 1: productive right away in the league at that position because
- 5:24Speaker 1: of the similarities of college and pro offenses right now.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It didn't used to be the case at that position
- 5:30Speaker 1: at all, but you can certainly do it now. Yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 1: But why do they like Adam Troutman and Nate Adkins
- 5:36Speaker 1: so much?
- 5:38Speaker 2: You know, this is Sean payton trademark. If you're one
- 5:43Speaker 2: of his preferred players, you're gonna be one of his
- 5:47Speaker 2: preferred players. And I think in his offense, knowledge is power.
- 5:55Speaker 2: He hates mental errors, he hates mistakes, he hates, you know,
- 6:00Speaker 2: not being prepared. And it's a big playbook with long
- 6:05Speaker 2: play calls, and it's not for everybody. And he there
- 6:10Speaker 2: are innumerable free agents and draft picks they pull down
- 6:13Speaker 2: off the board because they don't believe they can handle
- 6:17Speaker 2: what's going to be asked of them. And it's a
- 6:19Speaker 2: hard position to play. In the Broncos offense, because you're
- 6:22Speaker 2: responsible for all the pass protection checks, all of those things,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and you're responsible for the run game stuff, and you're
- 6:31Speaker 2: responsible for the route tree in the passing game. So
- 6:35Speaker 2: there's a lot on your plate there in Sean Payton's offense.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And again, it's not for everybody, and I think he
- 6:45Speaker 2: has always in his career lean to players he knows
- 6:49Speaker 2: rather than the uncertainty of new Hey.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But see, that's so fascinating as we try to figure
- 6:55Speaker 3: out what this fall is going to look like. And
- 6:57Speaker 3: I understand why you're saying what you're saying. I'm not
- 6:59Speaker 3: putting a protest to that, But if it's Shawn's offense,
- 7:03Speaker 3: and why do we have Davis Webb calling the plays?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Like?
- 7:06Speaker 3: Can Davis not shorten up the play calls? Is he
- 7:08Speaker 3: not allowed to change up the personnel and get something
- 7:10Speaker 3: that he would like?
- 7:11Speaker 4: And you know what I mean?
- 7:12Speaker 3: See, that's what I think is fascinating about this conversation, Jeff.
- 7:15Speaker 3: It would suggest not much is really changing despite the
- 7:18Speaker 3: guy calling the plays into the headset.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Well, I mean he can. I think Davis web will
- 7:23Speaker 2: have some autonomy on game day to do a lot
- 7:28Speaker 2: of things but the structure of the playbook is still
- 7:32Speaker 2: going to be Sean Payton's. I think Davis Webb will
- 7:35Speaker 2: have a heavy, heavy impact on you know, put the
- 7:40Speaker 2: whole playbook in for every game, you know, that's the thing.
- 7:43Speaker 2: It's what parts, how much of the playbook goes in
- 7:46Speaker 2: week to week. I think that will be the impact
- 7:49Speaker 2: of Davis web on this offense and the sequencing of
- 7:53Speaker 2: play calls and substitutions on game day. That's the play
- 7:57Speaker 2: caller stuff on game day, that's where Davis web can
- 8:01Speaker 2: have an impact. And I think Sean Payton has, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: made this move to speed it up, so I think
- 8:09Speaker 2: you might see less line changes as it were, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 2: three and four subs every play in those things. That's
- 8:16Speaker 2: the impact. But the structure of the playbook I think
- 8:20Speaker 2: is still going to be a lot of Sean Payton
- 8:22Speaker 2: in there.
- 8:23Speaker 1: That's Jeff leg Well, the ESPN, everybody, it's Craigman and Lindahl.
- 8:26Speaker 1: On Free Agency Monday, we got Nuggets Thunder with pregame
- 8:29Speaker 1: coming up at five o'clock tip off. We're anticipating five
- 8:32Speaker 1: forty two pm four tip off tonight between Denver and OKC.
- 8:36Speaker 1: We'll get you the injury updates as quickly as we can. Jeff,
- 8:40Speaker 1: what was the Broncos foray into the free agent running
- 8:43Speaker 1: back market like, because ultimately they have gone with bringing JK.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Dobbins back. How did did day go? What do we
- 8:52Speaker 1: know about how many calls the Broncos made and where
- 8:55Speaker 1: they were setting that budget.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I think they were they were kicking around the running backs.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I think Atn especially intrigued them, and I think coming
- 9:04Speaker 2: out of the combine, I thought Atn was one of
- 9:07Speaker 2: the people they thought fit what they do. But you know,
- 9:14Speaker 2: deem the price too high. Again, whoever they're gonna add
- 9:17Speaker 2: they were going to add at running back is splitting carries.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You know. Sean Payton drafted RJ. Harvey because he believes
- 9:24Speaker 2: he's a three down back. So they're not going to
- 9:28Speaker 2: spend fourteen million dollars a year, you know, or whatever
- 9:32Speaker 2: on a running back. They're just not gonna do it.
- 9:35Speaker 2: So and they didn't, you know, once they heard the
- 9:38Speaker 2: price tag for ATM and they moved on.
- 9:41Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about some of the other signings
- 9:43Speaker 3: around the league. As we stay in the running back category.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker, the third goes off to Kansas City. The
- 9:49Speaker 3: Super Bowl MVP is now in chief I find it
- 9:53Speaker 3: funny though that Jeff, It's so weird because forever it
- 9:55Speaker 3: felt like the Chiefs had their cap right this, that
- 9:57Speaker 3: the other. Now they're cutting guys and move money around
- 10:00Speaker 3: to get out of the cap and then they go
- 10:01Speaker 3: and give him big money. What kind of impact do
- 10:03Speaker 3: you think he's gonna have?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Well, you know, if they can't, you know, their issue
- 10:09Speaker 2: has been up front, so you know, I don't know
- 10:12Speaker 2: if it addresses that. And you know, that's that's one
- 10:15Speaker 2: I would keep my eye on from a football perspective.
- 10:18Speaker 2: You know, again, we love the names of free agency.
- 10:21Speaker 2: It rings the bell for Super Bowl MVP, right yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But Walker is a is a patient runner, a slow
- 10:29Speaker 2: to develop runner. You know, Le'Veon Bell is the best
- 10:33Speaker 2: comp for his running style. You know, he is not
- 10:37Speaker 2: always you know, he's waiting and waiting and if you're
- 10:41Speaker 2: not good upfront, that that's not a good good way
- 10:44Speaker 2: to go. But you can't deny what Andy Reid and
- 10:48Speaker 2: Mahomes can do on offense. But I'm intrigued to see
- 10:52Speaker 2: if they speed up Walker's clock any uh in all
- 10:57Speaker 2: of this, or if he'll still be that that sort
- 10:59Speaker 2: of hunt around Runner, because that can be you know
- 11:05Speaker 2: that the Seahawks were really good up front and could
- 11:08Speaker 2: hold you know, he could wait for those things to develop.
- 11:12Speaker 2: He maybe have a little quicker to the line of
- 11:15Speaker 2: scrimmage with the Chiefs right now.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Is there any shot in hell that the Broncos think
- 11:21Speaker 1: about getting in on the aj Brown trade conversations?
- 11:25Speaker 2: You know, I never say never, but it's not something
- 11:29Speaker 2: i've uh, I've not heard their name too much yet
- 11:34Speaker 2: around that. You know, the Eagles are standing strong. They
- 11:38Speaker 2: want they want at least a one in there, at
- 11:41Speaker 2: least a one. So I think that's even like the
- 11:44Speaker 2: basic starting point before it even gets off the ground.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Who will be the most regrettable signing of Day one here, Jeff, There's.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Always a couple. There's always a few that in two years.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Oh man, they're good dead cap hits and all that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's it's amazing now, you know. I you know, I
- 12:01Speaker 2: just looked back at what I said here. I thought
- 12:03Speaker 2: Greenlaw was all the best fits of free agency last
- 12:06Speaker 2: year then that I could see and I'm not saying
- 12:11Speaker 2: this because the player is not worth it, because he
- 12:14Speaker 2: is the best of the best, but paying a center.
- 12:18Speaker 2: What the Raiders have paid a center. But if you're
- 12:21Speaker 2: going to pick the QB at number one and you
- 12:24Speaker 2: finished with the worst record in the NFL, you better
- 12:26Speaker 2: have somebody right in front of him that can help
- 12:28Speaker 2: him out. So I understand why they did it, And
- 12:32Speaker 2: you know, I always want these guys to get every
- 12:34Speaker 2: dollar because when the teams are done with them, they
- 12:37Speaker 2: just cast him off. But that's a lot of money
- 12:40Speaker 2: for a center. But I like that they did address
- 12:44Speaker 2: that with knowing what they're going to do with the
- 12:47Speaker 2: number one pick, and I am interested to see how
- 12:49Speaker 2: Walker does. This is a lot different pressure than a
- 12:53Speaker 2: player feels when he's when he's the good value guy
- 12:57Speaker 2: doing great things. It's a lot different kind of pressure
- 13:00Speaker 2: when when everyone's going to be putting that in every
- 13:05Speaker 2: sentence about you. You know, Walker Kama, who signed this
- 13:08Speaker 2: offseason for you know, every sentence that's written about you
- 13:13Speaker 2: have has that in it.
- 13:15Speaker 1: What about the Max Crosby deal, Jeff, that one, to me,
- 13:18Speaker 1: just that seemed to be a no brainer for the Raiders.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it had to happen. I mean, he had made
- 13:25Speaker 2: his intentions clear, and you know that's that's one where
- 13:31Speaker 2: physically you know, can he hold up playing the way
- 13:34Speaker 2: he does over the long term is your question. It's not.
- 13:38Speaker 2: None of the rest is a question. That's a high
- 13:41Speaker 2: motor guy. I mean, he had games for the worst
- 13:44Speaker 2: team in the NFL where he played one hundred percent
- 13:46Speaker 2: of the defensive snaps. That's just unquestioned effort, you know,
- 13:51Speaker 2: when nothing's going right around you. So that's pretty much
- 13:55Speaker 2: a no brainer for all involved.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Were you thrown off, Jeff, I don't fully get the well,
- 14:00Speaker 3: let's get rid of Tua and then bring in Malik Willis.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I mean, I like Malik Willis and by all accounts
- 14:05Speaker 3: a great young man, but got Lee. I don't feel
- 14:07Speaker 3: like you're getting an upgrade at the skill set by
- 14:09Speaker 3: a lot for the money he got today. But I
- 14:11Speaker 3: guess they can they prove us all wrong.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's just andy. That's the case where
- 14:18Speaker 2: everybody's had enough, you know, on both sides of the equation.
- 14:23Speaker 2: It's just like how you know, but and the and
- 14:25Speaker 2: the Broncos are off the hook now they no longer
- 14:28Speaker 2: held the dead money record, you know in the NFL,
- 14:31Speaker 2: so already their rain, the rain is over all.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Right, Jeff Legwald everybody of ESPN. We'll talk to Leggy
- 14:39Speaker 1: coming up on Friday. So much more to do to
- 14:41Speaker 1: recap the week in free agency. Jeff, thanks man, We
- 14:45Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Get those run It Back T shirts that you're low
- 14:49Speaker 2: Now we're good.
- 14:49Speaker 4: That's like an AFC West Championship. We're good. We're good. There, Jeff,
- 14:53Speaker 4: We're okay.
- 14:54Speaker 1: There it goes, Jeff Legwald, everybody,
