- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we are back on the show when Normal,
- 0:04Speaker 1: which takes from Windom News gets weird.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I am Mary Tavin here.
- 0:08Speaker 3: And I'm Carol Marco. I'm Mary Catherine. How are you doing.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm doing all right. There's no rioting by my house,
- 0:15Speaker 2: so we're good.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Not from yet.
- 0:18Speaker 4: It spreads, It does spread.
- 0:21Speaker 3: The protests do continue in Los Angeles, and despite the
- 0:25Speaker 3: fact that we are frequently told on the ex platform
- 0:29Speaker 3: that they are contained and we're being hysterical, Mayor of
- 0:33Speaker 3: Los Angeles did impose a curfew last night, which is
- 0:36Speaker 3: odd for protests that are not spreading and are super contained,
- 0:41Speaker 3: and they are spreading to other places like Chicago, New
- 0:44Speaker 3: York City.
- 0:45Speaker 4: They tried it in Tampa.
- 0:46Speaker 3: One of my Twitter buddies, West Tennessee Barbecue described it
- 0:50Speaker 3: as tens and tens of people. Yeah, and there were
- 0:53Speaker 3: a lot of counter protesters and it was all quite hilarious.
- 0:58Speaker 3: But they are calling for a day of action this Saturday,
- 1:01Speaker 3: so it remains to be seen whether these protests really
- 1:05Speaker 3: will spread to other cities and cause fires and damage
- 1:10Speaker 3: there as well.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And I think, look, I'm fine with you guys being
- 1:16Speaker 1: wary of the federal government's exertion of power.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Welcome to the party on that. And protests are how
- 1:23Speaker 2: you address that? That's fine?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Protest away, yeah, pro just away.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Do not set things on fire, easy call, Do not
- 1:32Speaker 1: block traffic, do.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Not loot, do not loot.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, did you see that the I
- 1:37Speaker 1: saw a clip where some Apple iPhones that have been
- 1:40Speaker 1: looted in LA started blaring alarms and saying return me
- 1:44Speaker 1: to the such and such store or it's amazing, like
- 1:47Speaker 1: the AI gotcha, and the AI was like, we're going
- 1:50Speaker 1: to contact the authorities on behalf of this stolen iPhone.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And I was like, I was like, the iPhones have
- 1:56Speaker 1: risen up in defense of the waymos, which.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Self driving cars. Amazing. Yeah, so just like, don't do
- 2:06Speaker 2: those things.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Don't do those things.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Already in New York City where protests have begun, you
- 2:13Speaker 1: have folks blocking traffic. And you know what that means, Carol,
- 2:18Speaker 1: is that normis can't do normal things because there are
- 2:23Speaker 1: people who just need to run errands, and there are
- 2:26Speaker 1: people who need to pick up their kids from daycare,
- 2:30Speaker 1: people who need to go to work. And you and
- 2:33Speaker 1: I both saw this fantastic clip illustrating the dynamic between
- 2:39Speaker 1: normal city dwellers and lefty protesters where a woman is
- 2:44Speaker 1: trying to go to work, and this is the interaction
- 2:48Speaker 1: she has with two lily white.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Protesters important there who are.
- 2:56Speaker 1: No doubt well educated and for some reason able to
- 3:00Speaker 1: take off a Tuesday to protest in the streets and
- 3:03Speaker 1: block her way.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And here's the interaction that they.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Have about, I just knock again, you're not going?
- 3:21Speaker 7: How is it the people protest?
- 3:26Speaker 5: How I'm stopping a black woman from going to work?
- 3:29Speaker 6: Oh no, not work?
- 3:33Speaker 3: So you don't care about stopping black people from going
- 3:35Speaker 3: to work?
- 3:36Speaker 5: Look at this, I'm not pausing the facial expressions.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Kind of make that video so if you can look
- 3:44Speaker 3: it up and go see her. But when he starts
- 3:47Speaker 3: making fun of the idea of her going to work,
- 3:49Speaker 3: her face is like if she was ever sympathetic to
- 3:53Speaker 3: any part of this, she no longer is.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh no, not work.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Has never been uttered by someone who doesn't have resources like.
- 4:02Speaker 2: This guy is fine.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yes, this tonytailed lib is gonna be fine. He's gonna
- 4:08Speaker 1: have plenty of food today and all the things he
- 4:11Speaker 1: needs furnished for him. She would like to furnish those
- 4:15Speaker 1: things for her children. And this is what she gets
- 4:18Speaker 1: and she I love the part where she's like like
- 4:20Speaker 1: help me, help my yess and they're like they're like, no,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you're American, can't care about you.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Today is not about your kid.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It is such a clear illustration of so many things
- 4:32Speaker 1: that drive this and I know there are sincere people
- 4:34Speaker 1: out there, but telling that poor woman that this is peace,
- 4:40Speaker 1: thus blocking a roadway is peace, that this is good
- 4:44Speaker 1: people things.
- 4:45Speaker 2: We're doing good people things.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Stop yelling at us, lady who wants to feed your
- 4:49Speaker 1: children and her saying you could help me by just moving.
- 4:53Speaker 2: That's it. It's very simple. You don't have to set
- 4:56Speaker 2: anything on fire. Just let me drive.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah, has her.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Not being able to drive help them? Like, how in
- 5:04Speaker 3: the world is it at all helping any clause that
- 5:08Speaker 3: they want to support at all? I just it never
- 5:11Speaker 3: made any sense to me, like, let me inconvenience a
- 5:13Speaker 3: bunch of people who might even be on our side,
- 5:16Speaker 3: and that will make them be on our side, because
- 5:19Speaker 3: it won't. It definitely will not.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Doctor Drew talked about the song Guy Benson Show recently,
- 5:25Speaker 1: talking about the sort of the mental health mental health
- 5:28Speaker 1: issues that liberals self identify with at far higher levels
- 5:33Speaker 1: than Republicans, and he was talking about that and he
- 5:36Speaker 1: said a lot of this and sort of left activism
- 5:40Speaker 1: is an exercise in just having emotions loudly and putting
- 5:46Speaker 1: them on other people, right, And so a lot of
- 5:50Speaker 1: this is because if you ask them to explain how
- 5:52Speaker 1: it's going to help, they don't know. They're just like,
- 5:54Speaker 1: we're making noise, We're doing the thing. We want you
- 5:56Speaker 1: to feel the pain that we want you to feel,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and that's the end of the plan. And I think
- 6:05Speaker 1: the same is true of their leaders, where Newsom and
- 6:07Speaker 1: Bass are just having sort of emotional outbursts saying like
- 6:12Speaker 1: come at me, tough guy, and it's like arrest me,
- 6:15Speaker 1: why don't you? Why are you tough guy? The criminals
- 6:17Speaker 1: that would be that would be the thing to do.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And in these cities, I just am so fed up.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And look, it's why I don't live in a major city,
- 6:26Speaker 1: but I am so fed up on behalf of people
- 6:28Speaker 1: who live there with the idea that just simple things
- 6:31Speaker 1: like law enforcement being allowed to say no, you can't
- 6:34Speaker 1: block the road, is that's somehow fascist?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, So you know, the last episode, we talked about
- 6:43Speaker 3: how people were minimizing all of this and The La
- 6:46Speaker 3: Times had an article titled all of LA is not
- 6:50Speaker 3: a war zone. Okay, I was writing a market and
- 6:53Speaker 3: I did mock it a little bit because, okay, not
- 6:55Speaker 3: all of LA is a war zone. Even if only
- 6:58Speaker 3: part of one of our major cities is a war zone,
- 7:00Speaker 3: I find that problematic.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Well, this is the this is the jd Vance line
- 7:04Speaker 2: from the debate.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I feel like one hotel taken over by.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Would be yeah, more than enough for us to be
- 7:12Speaker 2: out about.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly so.
- 7:14Speaker 3: But the La Times had that headline and they said
- 7:17Speaker 3: we separate facts from spin and disinformation abid amid immigration raids.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And I guess the La Times is actually working on
- 7:24Speaker 3: being a real newspaper. So the article did actually clear
- 7:28Speaker 3: up some disinformation, which I found, you know, unusual.
- 7:32Speaker 5: There were stories, it was.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It was really wild because because I immediately made fun
- 7:38Speaker 3: of the headline and then I read the article and
- 7:40Speaker 3: I was like, this article is not bad, this is
- 7:42Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 7:42Speaker 1: They clickbaited and then did some journalism under it.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yeah, oh they really got me.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So there were stories circulating n LA that ice had
- 7:51Speaker 3: raided a school, and lots of people spread it of
- 7:54Speaker 3: course on X you know, like they're ripping these kids
- 7:57Speaker 3: out of their middle school graduations.
- 7:59Speaker 4: The LA Time article says this did not happen.
- 8:02Speaker 3: There was another story about ice rating a hotel and
- 8:06Speaker 3: taking out workers that didn't happen either. They allude to
- 8:11Speaker 3: the home depot story, but that's the only one they
- 8:14Speaker 3: were kind of weak on.
- 8:14Speaker 4: They didn't specifically say it didn't happen.
- 8:16Speaker 3: But there's been a lot of reports that the home
- 8:18Speaker 3: depot raid that also was rumored to have happened, yeah, also.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Did not happen.
- 8:24Speaker 3: So I don't know how many people are listening to
- 8:26Speaker 3: this that are inflamed by stories that they're hearing. I
- 8:29Speaker 3: think probably our audience is a little bit more savvy
- 8:33Speaker 3: than that.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I think that they would not automatically believe sensational stories.
- 8:39Speaker 5: But if you do, if you've heard.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Stories, like, give it a minute. I take this approach
- 8:45Speaker 3: to anything, really, to any major story breaking, give it
- 8:50Speaker 3: a second, see what develops.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and like all of these things, you know, I
- 8:54Speaker 1: do think that there are ways that the federal government
- 8:56Speaker 1: can certainly overstep in doing its duty, which the cities
- 9:00Speaker 1: are preventing it from doing. I worry about marines because
- 9:03Speaker 1: what are the rules of engagement here?
- 9:05Speaker 2: That is a step beyond National Guard.
- 9:07Speaker 1: National Guard I'm pretty comfortable with because I don't I
- 9:10Speaker 1: didn't love twenty twenty.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I didn't love Summer of twenty twenty. Guys.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Some of the summer riots not for me.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Really, I'm done with that. And so I'm okay with,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, enforcing the laws. And many Americans are, and
- 9:22Speaker 1: as CNN found out, a lot of those Americans are
- 9:26Speaker 1: in the immigrant community. I love when Harry Enson, who
- 9:29Speaker 1: is the numbers guy at CNN, the poll like, look
- 9:31Speaker 1: deep at the polling guy when he comes out. He
- 9:34Speaker 1: does about a weekly segment where like Kate Baldwin, the
- 9:38Speaker 1: anchor has to be like.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Oh right, really, and he's just like, he's.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Just like breaking brains with this seemingly counterintuitive information.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Let's hear him do so.
- 9:48Speaker 8: Start off on the fact that immigrant citizens, immigrant voters
- 9:51Speaker 8: forigm bow and voters have gone tremendously to the right
- 9:55Speaker 8: on this issue in twenty twenty four and twenty twenty
- 9:57Speaker 8: five versus where they were on twenty twenty. Closest to
- 10:00Speaker 8: trust more in immigration, you go back to twenty twenty,
- 10:02Speaker 8: Democrats Get This held a thirty two point lead on
- 10:05Speaker 8: this issue. Immigrant voters were in the Democratic camp. Jump
- 10:08Speaker 8: forward to twenty twenty four to twenty twenty five.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Look at that.
- 10:11Speaker 8: Shift, a forty point shift to the right among immigrant voters.
- 10:16Speaker 8: Republicans now lead on this issue by eight points over Democrats,
- 10:21Speaker 8: more so than any other group that I could find.
- 10:24Speaker 8: The group of voters who became more hawkish on immigration
- 10:27Speaker 8: were in fact immigrants themselves, immigrants who are registered to
- 10:30Speaker 8: vote in this country.
- 10:32Speaker 2: So that's on that issue. How about how they feel
- 10:35Speaker 2: about kind of traditionally historically about Donald Trump.
- 10:38Speaker 8: Yeah, so you know, you see this shift, and you go,
- 10:40Speaker 8: what is going on underneath the hood? Well, take a
- 10:42Speaker 8: look donald Trump. You remember when he first ran back
- 10:45Speaker 8: in twenty sixteen, immigrant voters are one of his weakest bots.
- 10:47Speaker 8: But look at this. Trump's vote share in presidential elections
- 10:50Speaker 8: among again immigrant citizens, those who are registered to vote.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Look at this.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Twenty sixteen, you got.
- 10:53Speaker 8: Thirty six percent of the vote. You go to twenty twenty,
- 10:56Speaker 8: thirty nine percent of the vote. Look at this in
- 10:58Speaker 8: twenty twenty four, all the way up to fight forty
- 11:00Speaker 8: seven percent of the vote. Some polls I looked at
- 11:03Speaker 8: had him barely losing that vote. Some poles I looked
- 11:05Speaker 8: at had him barely winning that vote. Again, there is
- 11:08Speaker 8: no block of voters that shifted more to the right
- 11:11Speaker 8: from twenty twenty to twenty twenty four than immigrant voters,
- 11:15Speaker 8: and Donald Trump, at least in some surveys, actually won
- 11:18Speaker 8: that vote. On average, it's about equal.
- 11:21Speaker 2: So there may be all this.
- 11:22Speaker 8: Stuff right about undocumented immigrants and Trump being harsh on them,
- 11:25Speaker 8: but immigrant voters themselves have increasingly liked Donald Trump and
- 11:28Speaker 8: have increasingly moved to the right on immigration.
- 11:32Speaker 2: All right, thank you, Harry, You you can wrap that up.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I do enjoy that each of these segments, there's always
- 11:36Speaker 1: an attempt to be like.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Well, surely there's bad news.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Trump, and he keeps going through the numbers, and it
- 11:43Speaker 1: fact is that the news isn't bad and it's not.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, we don't.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Always say that whatever's popular is right. But in this case,
- 11:53Speaker 1: what happened is a bunch of communities have a assimilated, immigrated,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and then related and then watched Biden let untold numbers
- 12:04Speaker 1: right come across the border without vetting, without a system,
- 12:09Speaker 1: ignoring our laws, and they got fed up.
- 12:13Speaker 2: That's what happened.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Like you just you hit a tipping point where this
- 12:16Speaker 1: wasn't cool with people anymore. And the Mexican immigrants and
- 12:21Speaker 1: Latin American immigrants from two generations ago now look around
- 12:26Speaker 1: and go like whoaa, whoa right, what's happening here with
- 12:29Speaker 1: the wave in the Mexican flag and setting cup cars
- 12:32Speaker 1: on fire.
- 12:32Speaker 3: That's not totally that's not us, right. I look, I'm
- 12:36Speaker 3: an immigrant. I feel this very strongly. I was always pretty,
- 12:40Speaker 3: you know, hardcore on illegal immigration, but I've certainly become
- 12:43Speaker 3: even more hardcore. I think that I don't know, I
- 12:46Speaker 3: think even just maybe a decade ago, I don't know
- 12:49Speaker 3: that I would have been like, oh, we should just
- 12:50Speaker 3: be rounding people up.
- 12:51Speaker 4: But it's gotten so bad that this is where we
- 12:54Speaker 4: are now.
- 12:55Speaker 3: And I also I find it very offensive when they
- 13:00Speaker 3: intertwine illegal and legal immigration as if it's one thing.
- 13:05Speaker 4: We're just not one thing. And I'm sorry.
- 13:07Speaker 3: You know, I told a story on X but my
- 13:10Speaker 3: mother's sister lived in Russia until her death.
- 13:14Speaker 4: She was not allowed to come visit.
- 13:16Speaker 3: She was not granted a tourist visa to come visit,
- 13:19Speaker 3: because the assumption always was that she would probably stay
- 13:22Speaker 3: because why why not you have a family, et cetera.
- 13:24Speaker 3: And she was already older, so she wouldn't be able
- 13:26Speaker 3: to work and she'd be a drain on the system.
- 13:28Speaker 3: We don't really know why, but this was the assumption.
- 13:31Speaker 3: We followed all those rules, and my mom would like
- 13:34Speaker 3: watch on TV the people streaming across the border.
- 13:38Speaker 4: And she'd say, my sister can't come visit me for
- 13:40Speaker 4: two weeks. And we followed those rules, and we followed
- 13:43Speaker 4: the law.
- 13:43Speaker 3: And it's galling when other people don't and they get
- 13:48Speaker 3: away with it. And this is why I legal immigrants. Also,
- 13:51Speaker 3: the whole come here, will give you a hotel room
- 13:53Speaker 3: and a check and all the different things, like we
- 13:56Speaker 3: had to promise somebody would take care of us.
- 13:59Speaker 5: There was no come let us take care of you.
- 14:01Speaker 4: It just doesn't exist, didn't.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I just think you run into real The Trump administration
- 14:07Speaker 1: can run into problems by overstepping right overplaying their hand.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And I think he's spoiling for that fight he wants
- 14:13Speaker 1: to do over twenty twenty.
- 14:15Speaker 2: He's happy to do that.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But I think you run into real problems with normies
- 14:18Speaker 1: when it is so obvious that you value those who
- 14:21Speaker 1: have broken those sas who have violated the system over
- 14:25Speaker 1: those who haven't.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And in fact, what you do is you soak the
- 14:28Speaker 2: ones who follow the rules to serve the.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Ones who do not, And that is what happens in
- 14:33Speaker 1: all of these cities, and it's so depressing and so
- 14:37Speaker 1: demoralizing as an actual citizen who's trying.
- 14:40Speaker 2: To do the right thing.
- 14:41Speaker 1: By the way, if anybody's worried about us living in
- 14:44Speaker 1: a fascist state, I do want to let you know
- 14:46Speaker 1: that the tweeting menswear guy, oh yeah, who I actually
- 14:51Speaker 1: started following back when he got promoted or whatever reason.
- 14:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I ended up following.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I enjoyed the takes. I was into it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He has a very specialized kind of knowledge. It's interesting,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and he's gotten very big. And then he had to
- 15:07Speaker 1: signal how lefty he was, so he just started like
- 15:10Speaker 1: trashing right landing figures.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Outfits and like whatever.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I'm not a snowflake about it, but it's very obvious
- 15:18Speaker 1: that he's only picking right laning people. And then he
- 15:23Speaker 1: just decided during this week to say, oh, by the way,
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm an illegal immigrant. And he was brought here by
- 15:29Speaker 1: his family when he was very young. He did not
- 15:31Speaker 1: really have a choice in this matter. Something that is
- 15:33Speaker 1: like more sympathetic certainly than other stories, sure, but like
- 15:37Speaker 1: the menswear guy is just going to tweet that he's
- 15:40Speaker 1: here illegally and pretend we live in a fascist state. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but tweeting that he's here illegally just makes him probably
- 15:47Speaker 1: more famous and more money on X.
- 15:50Speaker 2: And you know the Vice PRIs.
- 15:54Speaker 1: No, and like, look, if he gets deported, you straight
- 15:57Speaker 1: up told everyone on the platform where the actual Homeland
- 16:01Speaker 1: Security and Vice President hang out a lot, that you're
- 16:05Speaker 1: here illegally. So like, that's well within what could happen
- 16:09Speaker 1: to you. You have assumed their risk here. But I
- 16:12Speaker 1: do think it's.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Kind of interesting that he's just still joking about stuff.
- 16:15Speaker 1: He's trolling on the X about this very pertinent fact
- 16:20Speaker 1: in our fascist state.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Right, and if he does get kicked out, he has
- 16:24Speaker 3: no one to blame but himself will be right back
- 16:26Speaker 3: on normally, speaking of crazy places that are doing crazy things,
- 16:35Speaker 3: New York City is going to have an election in
- 16:39Speaker 3: just a few days. They're going to have a primary election,
- 16:42Speaker 3: and traditionally, whoever wins the New York City mayoral Democratic
- 16:48Speaker 3: primary goes on to win the election.
- 16:50Speaker 2: This is the one party rule situation, right.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It may be a little bit different this time because
- 16:56Speaker 3: the current mayor Eric Adams is running as an independent,
- 17:00Speaker 3: so I'm not really sure how that's going to play
- 17:03Speaker 3: into this. I mean, I've said openly if I were
- 17:06Speaker 3: still living in New York, I would be holding on
- 17:08Speaker 3: to Eric Adams with both hands.
- 17:11Speaker 1: He you know, it's like which is which is such
- 17:13Speaker 1: a testament to the others.
- 17:15Speaker 5: It's like vote for the criminal. It's important, truly.
- 17:19Speaker 8: But in.
- 17:22Speaker 5: The top two.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Slots of the Democratic primary right now are former Governor
- 17:26Speaker 3: Andrew Cuomo and Zorn Mamandi, who is a Democratic Socialist
- 17:32Speaker 3: and is running to the left of that. I would
- 17:35Speaker 3: say he's running as a full on communist and he
- 17:38Speaker 3: may win.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, it's scary when the clearly best
- 17:44Speaker 1: options for normal people are Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And look, I don't want that guy to have a comeback.
- 17:54Speaker 5: No, I know, I know.
- 17:56Speaker 3: But what.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I'm dammy is like right out here saying I'm going
- 18:01Speaker 1: to freeze rents. He has no authority to do so,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it would it would ruin so many things. It was
- 18:07Speaker 1: just like a middle schooler being like, I'll give you
- 18:09Speaker 1: free treats from the vending machines, Like, no, you won't.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Right, He wants free buses, government run grocery stores, and
- 18:17Speaker 3: freezing the rent. I mean again, full on communist government
- 18:20Speaker 3: run grocery stores, Like I don't even think AOC would
- 18:24Speaker 3: be for that.
- 18:24Speaker 5: No, no, it's far out.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Somebody jokes that I think it was.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Ben Dreyfus pointed out that I'm sure they had decided
- 18:33Speaker 1: that AOC should endorse him, and when would she endorse him?
- 18:35Speaker 2: And you got to make the most impact possible. And
- 18:37Speaker 2: it happened on the day that Elon and it was amazing.
- 18:41Speaker 5: It really was, because it was like so like, will
- 18:43Speaker 5: she won't she? Will? She won't she?
- 18:44Speaker 4: And she finally did it, and it's like did not
- 18:47Speaker 4: make the news at all?
- 18:48Speaker 2: No, yeah, zero.
- 18:50Speaker 3: So a lot of people hear his ideas and say
- 18:53Speaker 3: that's ridiculous.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Obviously someone like that can't win.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But as I always like to say, it's very important
- 18:59Speaker 3: to remember that I will give you free stuff remains
- 19:02Speaker 3: a popular campaign tactic.
- 19:04Speaker 4: And I'm worried.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I don't know, some polls I've seen have him winning Brooklyn.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It's definitely a concern.
- 19:13Speaker 3: I hope Andrew Cuomo pulls it out in the Democratic primary.
- 19:17Speaker 3: The problem is that Cuomo is still super unlikable. And
- 19:21Speaker 3: you may remember that from twenty twenty and our friend
- 19:26Speaker 3: Justin Robert Young of the amazing political show Politics, Politics, Politics,
- 19:31Speaker 3: he points out on X that Mamandi is running a
- 19:34Speaker 3: very good campaign tactically, and Cuomo is acting like everyone
- 19:38Speaker 3: in New York City should be honored. He'd slum it
- 19:40Speaker 3: by running for mayor. So so yeah, that's how that's going.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Like Como wasn't showing up to mayoral forums. He was
- 19:46Speaker 3: really just acting as if like here I am, you
- 19:50Speaker 3: guys are so lucky to have me.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Yep, that might not work.
- 19:54Speaker 4: It might not work.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It might not.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And Zoron for his part, and I must say this
- 19:59Speaker 1: about every single one of the them that pops up Pep, Pete,
- 20:01Speaker 1: boudhajeedge aoc him. If they can talk, they're a danger.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And this guy can talk. His ads are very good,
- 20:10Speaker 1: they're creative. He is an interesting speaker, and so that's
- 20:15Speaker 1: always a challenge because he comes.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Off much more likable than quote like low bar.
- 20:21Speaker 1: But it is amazing to me that both LA and
- 20:25Speaker 1: New York right now in very different ways.
- 20:27Speaker 2: New York electorally LA.
- 20:29Speaker 1: In the streets, the lefty leaders are doing the things
- 20:34Speaker 1: that the American people that the normies, even in their towns,
- 20:37Speaker 1: left leaning towns.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Have told them they hate. They don't want chaos.
- 20:42Speaker 1: They don't want chaos on behalf of illegal immigrants and criminals,
- 20:46Speaker 1: convicted criminals.
- 20:47Speaker 2: By the way, many of these people that are being
- 20:49Speaker 2: picked up.
- 20:50Speaker 1: They don't like the far far left inability to govern
- 20:55Speaker 1: and deliver on services they do not want. That's why
- 20:58Speaker 1: the ezra klines of the intellectual lefty world to trying
- 21:01Speaker 1: to drag them back to the idea that they should
- 21:03Speaker 1: serve voters with an idea services, right, and they're just
- 21:08Speaker 1: like tripling down on all of it.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I don't know how they don't know. I don't think
- 21:14Speaker 2: they know how to pivot at this point.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Right, I kind of want to go back in time
- 21:19Speaker 3: and tell Carol and Mary Catherine of twenty twenty that
- 21:23Speaker 3: we'd be rooting for Andrew Pommo to.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Win, to win anything.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Really, I'm so not a fan of Andrew CMO. This
- 21:30Speaker 3: is again why I would prefer Adams if I were
- 21:33Speaker 3: New Yorker.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Just so imprincible. I don't even care how bad Adams is.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I'm like, I know, not this at all.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Exactly, And during the pandemic.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Clomo so openly hated New York City, and he was
- 21:44Speaker 3: just always so anti the city.
- 21:48Speaker 5: But there's this whole subtext of.
- 21:51Speaker 3: The mayor election where they get asked their bagel orders.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Yes, this is great, tell me your bagel order.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I mean, look, I'm not a connoisseur, so I think, like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I'm not the one to ask, So we're going to
- 22:04Speaker 1: go to you second after I get my trash order out.
- 22:06Speaker 4: But I would just say I bagel orders bow Jangles.
- 22:11Speaker 2: No, my my favorite.
- 22:13Speaker 1: My preference would be a fresh, warm everything bagel with plane,
- 22:18Speaker 1: cream cheese, right and possibly Lucks.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, my order is everything, bagel, cream, cheese, tomato.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's not crazy, it's not you know, anything fancy. The
- 22:29Speaker 3: thing is, when you're hearing the bagel orders in New York,
- 22:33Speaker 3: what New Yorkers are looking for is whether or not
- 22:35Speaker 3: you say toasted. If you say toasted, you're not from here.
- 22:39Speaker 3: So this is still still a New Yorker somewhere at heart.
- 22:42Speaker 3: But yeah, you're it's it's the if you're toasting, then
- 22:45Speaker 3: you're not going to a bagel shop that makes it fresh,
- 22:47Speaker 3: And then what are you doing?
- 22:48Speaker 4: You may as well have a supermarket based.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So this was new information to me because I have
- 22:52Speaker 1: never lived in a place with great bagels like New
- 22:55Speaker 1: York I did. We had a Burger's bagel, which is
- 22:57Speaker 1: a chain, and I'm sure you workers would look down
- 23:00Speaker 1: upon it.
- 23:01Speaker 2: However, they did have fresh bagels, which is why.
- 23:03Speaker 4: That's all that matters.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I want the hot one, right right, but I will,
- 23:07Speaker 1: you know, toast one when I don't have that option.
- 23:10Speaker 1: But I believe let's see, it was Zorn's was toasted,
- 23:18Speaker 1: correct that where he went?
- 23:21Speaker 5: I don't know. I had the brad Lander.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Our friend Eli Klein on X pointed out that brad
- 23:28Speaker 3: Lander gave his bagel order as everything bagel, scallion cream, cheese,
- 23:31Speaker 3: sliced tomato, and locks and again, it doesn't matter what
- 23:34Speaker 3: you put on it, capers and blah blah blah, it
- 23:36Speaker 3: doesn't matter. But brad Lander then retweeted like somebody praising
- 23:41Speaker 3: his order and added lightly toasted.
- 23:43Speaker 4: It's like he has no principles.
- 23:45Speaker 5: This man stands for nothing.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Come on, right, it's it's it's just it's unacceptable.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Okay, So yes, okay, let me let me just call
- 23:54Speaker 1: him out. Yeah, the socialist is for toasted, Okay, the order.
- 23:59Speaker 1: As someone who grew up morning side heights, I have
- 24:01Speaker 1: to go back to absolute bagels, poppy seed bagel, scallion
- 24:04Speaker 1: cream cheese, some pulp tropic canna on the side, And
- 24:07Speaker 1: this is going to lose me some votes.
- 24:09Speaker 2: But to be honest with you, toasted.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Yeah, unacceptable, just really really not acceptable. So Ben points
- 24:17Speaker 3: out that bagel shops bake their own bagels fresh, no
- 24:20Speaker 3: reason to toast a bagel, And then he says, no
- 24:22Speaker 3: one is saying you shouldn't toast your piece of shit,
- 24:24Speaker 3: loser bagel that you bought from the supermarket and brought
- 24:27Speaker 3: back to your rat infested trailer.
- 24:30Speaker 5: I actually showed that to my daughter to.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Be like, you know, toasting bagels is unacceptable, yes, behavior okay.
- 24:35Speaker 5: He also made.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Fun of Zoran because he had the tropic canna on
- 24:40Speaker 3: the side. He was like, toasted poppy seed bagel with
- 24:42Speaker 3: a tropic canna on the side. Is he running to
- 24:44Speaker 3: be the mayor of Cincinnati Airport? Which it's pretty good, pretty.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Good, It's funny.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Do you remember notoriously Cynthia Nixon, the Sex and the
- 24:54Speaker 1: City actress. She had some weird She was a gubernatorial
- 24:59Speaker 1: candidate and her bagel order was this is horrific.
- 25:03Speaker 2: A cinnamon raisin bagel. Yeah, with locks and cabage.
- 25:07Speaker 8: How ow.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Like I'm for a sweet and savory in some capacities,
- 25:14Speaker 1: but not in that one.
- 25:15Speaker 4: No, No, that's super gross.
- 25:18Speaker 1: That's anyway, best of luck to everyone. Yeah, I do
- 25:21Speaker 1: not understand if you can get one fresh and hot
- 25:25Speaker 1: right in New York?
- 25:26Speaker 2: Why are you? That doesn't make any sense. Why would
- 25:28Speaker 2: you coast?
- 25:28Speaker 4: It makes no sense. That's absolutely right.
- 25:31Speaker 2: You're not for my land of trash bagels? Like, do
- 25:33Speaker 2: it right.
- 25:34Speaker 4: We're going to take a short break and come right
- 25:36Speaker 4: back with normally.
- 25:40Speaker 3: People have been having a good twenty four hours of
- 25:43Speaker 3: being nice and apologizing. Should we wrap up with something pleasure?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do some some apologies. The apology tour, the
- 25:50Speaker 2: apology to very famous people.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It turns out that both Simone Biles and Elon Musk
- 25:57Speaker 1: have had a bit of a change of heart.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Simone Biles, her apology was very.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Scripted, conluted.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yes, I did not believe her, Like her post at
- 26:13Speaker 3: Riley was on a Saturday night, and you know, I guess.
- 26:16Speaker 4: A lot I and a lot of other people assumed
- 26:18Speaker 4: she had had a.
- 26:19Speaker 7: Couple of drinks aggressive, yes, yes, but this her apology
- 26:24Speaker 7: was just like the current system doesn't adequately balance these
- 26:28Speaker 7: important principles of you know, competitive equity and inclusivity, which often.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Leads to frustration and heated exchanges. And it didn't help
- 26:35Speaker 4: for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize
- 26:38Speaker 4: for it.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Just like just say, you're sorry, what is this? What
- 26:42Speaker 5: is this like the way that.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I spoke, you know, it just it made no sense
- 26:46Speaker 4: to me.
- 26:47Speaker 2: And also it seems like forty eight hours after the thing.
- 26:50Speaker 1: It was like in not probably not that quite that much,
- 26:53Speaker 1: but it was the delay was large given how famous
- 26:56Speaker 1: she is and how quickly the news cycle moves. Nor
- 27:00Speaker 1: you want to do a clean up like this pretty
- 27:01Speaker 1: quickly afterwards, so that would have probably helped.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But I think.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Kiley is so just what a great person accepted the
- 27:11Speaker 3: apology said, you know, Simon is still the greatest gymnast
- 27:15Speaker 3: ever and accepts it.
- 27:17Speaker 4: I don't accept it.
- 27:21Speaker 5: I just I'm sorry.
- 27:22Speaker 3: I found the apology to be bake And I like,
- 27:27Speaker 3: if Simone Biles is promoting something I'm not in that.
- 27:30Speaker 4: She she lost me.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm out on it too, Like she's she's without
- 27:35Speaker 1: dispute the goat when it comes to stymnastics. No one
- 27:38Speaker 1: can take that away from her. I'm not going to
- 27:41Speaker 1: be particularly wooed anymore by any of her pitches.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's it for that.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Elon Musk, However, his his his apology tweet was around
- 27:52Speaker 3: three in the morning, who.
- 27:56Speaker 1: By the way, definitely does not have crisis pr That
- 27:58Speaker 1: guy no no.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Is helping him craft any of this, He tweets, I
- 28:03Speaker 3: regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week.
- 28:07Speaker 4: They went too far.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Again, it's not an effusive apology, but I believe him.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Again at three in the.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Morning apology that's not four hundred words, I feel like
- 28:17Speaker 3: he really means it.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Will they be bros?
- 28:21Speaker 3: Again?
- 28:22Speaker 4: I'm not so sure.
- 28:24Speaker 8: Well.
- 28:25Speaker 1: For his part, Trump responded and as he has done
- 28:28Speaker 1: throughout this pretty in a pretty measured manner, right, he
- 28:32Speaker 1: said to He talked to New York Post and said,
- 28:35Speaker 1: I thought it was very nice that he did that.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't fight like that.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't say whether he was willing to let
- 28:42Speaker 1: bygones be bygones with Tesla and SpaceX and Muskin general.
- 28:48Speaker 1: But you know, like Trump is so such an interesting
- 28:53Speaker 1: character because sometimes you want to say like, oh yeah,
- 28:55Speaker 1: like this guy's burned forever.
- 28:57Speaker 2: There's no way you.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Can come back from this with Trump. That's not It's
- 29:01Speaker 1: not often or even often how Trump operates like you
- 29:06Speaker 1: come and say the right thing, right, and he's gonna
- 29:09Speaker 1: be like okay, right.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 29:11Speaker 3: I can think of a lot of examples of that,
- 29:13Speaker 3: including his vice president. J. D. Vance said some terrible
- 29:16Speaker 3: things about Donald Trump. Marco Rubio said some terrible things.
- 29:19Speaker 3: He's golfed with Ron DeSantis.
- 29:22Speaker 5: I mean there he makes.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Up, he kisses and make up.
- 29:25Speaker 3: But this one, I thought maybe not just because they
- 29:29Speaker 3: were really close, and I you know, it remains to
- 29:32Speaker 3: be seen. Maybe Trump really has mellowed and he can forgive.
- 29:35Speaker 3: But it seemed like they were like friends, not just
- 29:39Speaker 3: It seems.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Like an affectionate relationship.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Trump was hanging out with his son, like with Elon's son,
- 29:44Speaker 3: more than he was hanging out like with his own kids.
- 29:47Speaker 4: So yeah, I don't know.
- 29:50Speaker 3: I hope that those two crazy kids find a way
- 29:52Speaker 3: to make it work.
- 29:53Speaker 4: It was it was nice, nice when they were friends.
