- 0:01Hebrews chapter 12. Let us pray.
- 0:09Oh Lord, we love you. We love you so much.
- 0:14Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will be here in
- 0:20our midst. Show up and show off and show
- 0:23out. God, reveal to us eternal
- 0:27truths. God, we lift your name up higher
- 0:30than every other name. God, it is your name that is on
- 0:34our lips when we wake up, when we go to bed.
- 0:39God, we are enamored with your beauty.
- 0:42We are enamored with who you are.
- 0:45God, we love you. We love everything about you.
- 0:50Teach us your eternal paths. Take us to new heights and let
- 0:53us experience new depths of your love and your mercy.
- 0:57Your grace fill us. Holy Spirit, Jesus, come, Lord,
- 1:09come and it's in your holy precious name, I pray, Amen.
- 1:16Let's start in verse one. Wherefore, seeing we also are
- 1:21compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay
- 1:25aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us,
- 1:32and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
- 1:37You know, it's easy to start a race, but it sure is hard to
- 1:43finish it. And you see it in so many men
- 1:46and women's lives and ministries.
- 1:48You see it in so many families. They started out well, but
- 1:52somewhere along the way they got entangled with all of life's
- 2:00cares and they made it about the wrong things.
- 2:05They started trusting in self and trusting in money.
- 2:09They started trusting in government, started trusting in
- 2:16the arms that they were amassing in the food storage.
- 2:20They started a trusting in the military.
- 2:22They started trusting and all the wrong things and they were
- 2:27easily entangled and that is attack of the enemy.
- 2:31Friends is he wants you to get your eyes off of God and put
- 2:36your eyes on self in the world. And anytime that we take our
- 2:41eyes off of God we sink friends. It is a weight that causes us to
- 2:47sink like the apostle Peter, whenever he took his eyes off of
- 2:53all off of our Lord, he started to sink.
- 2:56And that is what you need to understand.
- 2:58That is what you need to ingrain in your psyche, friends, is
- 3:04every time you start to get dismayed, every time you start
- 3:08to get down, put your eyes upon Christ and He'll carry you
- 3:15across the water. This cloud of witnesses, friends
- 3:21cheering us on, clapping and applauding us.
- 3:26Whenever we put our eyes upon Christ, they are cheering for
- 3:32us. They're rooting for us, friends,
- 3:34to make it there with them, to looking unto Jesus, the author
- 3:42and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before
- 3:47him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set
- 3:51down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- 3:54His work is finished, friends. He finished the race well.
- 3:59He did not let the shame and the pain and the mocking and the
- 4:05jeering, the pulling out of his beard and the scourging and the
- 4:15excruciating pain of the cross and the embarrassment of being
- 4:22stripped and hung on the cross, keep him from finishing the work
- 4:30that God had for him to do. And that is a call for you, and
- 4:34that is a call for me to not allow the fear to take over.
- 4:43We must remain courageous in the face of all persecution,
- 4:48friends. And if we will look to Jesus, He
- 4:53will author and He will finish our lives in faith.
- 4:59Don't take your eyes off of Him, friends. 3-4 Consider Him that
- 5:08endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest
- 5:12you be wearied and faint in your minds.
- 5:16Consider Jesus when you're ready to give up, when you're ready to
- 5:20throw in the towel, when it's all too hard and it's all too
- 5:23much and you feel like you're hard pressed.
- 5:26Just remember that He's producing diamonds, friends.
- 5:30Just remember he's producing pearls from all of the
- 5:34irritation that you and I have to go through.
- 5:37Just remember, friends, that He's not done.
- 5:40If you've got life, if you've got breath, then He's still
- 5:44sanctifying you and getting you ready for all of eternity.
- 5:50Do not faint, Do not be weary. Considered Jesus Christ, He's
- 5:55suffered so much so that we can have eternal life, for you have
- 6:01not yet resisted unto blood striving against sin.
- 6:06He's saying that anything that we go through pales in
- 6:09comparison to what Christ Almighty went through for us as
- 6:15the Father turned away from Him and as the entire sin of the
- 6:21entire world was placed upon Him and Him who knew no sin became
- 6:27sin. So that we can become the
- 6:29righteousness of God and we can be holy because He is holy.
- 6:40Five. And you have forgotten the
- 6:43exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, my son,
- 6:49despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you
- 6:54are rebuked of Him. As what you need to understand
- 6:58is that a loving father disciplines his children.
- 7:03We do not need to think when God is disciplining us that it is
- 7:06because He hates us. You need to know that if you are
- 7:10not being disciplined by God, it shows that you're not truly His.
- 7:16God disciplines us and He gets us ready for all of eternity,
- 7:21and He only has about 100 years time to do so. 6 For whom the
- 7:30Lord loves. He chastens and scourges every
- 7:33Son whom He receives. This should bring us much
- 7:39pleasure. In the midst of trials and
- 7:41tribulations and persecutions is knowing that God is sanctifying
- 7:46us. He's pulling out the dross and
- 7:48the impurities. And if your life doesn't look
- 7:50anything different than the rest of the world, then something is
- 7:53awry and something is amiss. And you must check yourself
- 7:58before you wreck yourself, friends.
- 8:05Seven, if you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons.
- 8:12For what son is he whom the Father chastens?
- 8:15Not so. There's a big If there, your
- 8:20life should look different than the world's, and if it does not,
- 8:26it is a red flag. 8 But if you be without chastisement whereof
- 8:35all are partakers, then you are bastards and not sons.
- 8:39It's a good way. It's an indicator, friends, if
- 8:42you actually belong to God or not.
- 8:45If everything is easy pie in the sky spiritual platitudes, If
- 8:50it's all about the numerical value in moving a decimal church
- 8:54attendance, friends, then you've missed the mark.
- 8:58If it's all about prosperity to you, then you have no place with
- 9:02God Almighty. 9 Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh,
- 9:10which corrected us, and we gave them reverence.
- 9:14Shall we not much more rather be in subjection unto the Father of
- 9:18spirits and live? He says, Look to him and Live
- 9:24Today. Friends, if we obeyed our
- 9:28earthly fathers, how much more shall we obey God?
- 9:34And our earthly fathers were flawed, and they were not very
- 9:38good representations of a loving, holy God Almighty who is
- 9:45perfect in all of his ways. But they were there as an
- 9:50example of what it looks like to not look.
- 9:54Live in rebellion, friends, and do not rebel against a holy and
- 10:00loving God. And you don't have to understand
- 10:03all of His ways. We just get out of our own
- 10:05understanding, and we bow in reverence and subjection to
- 10:10God's infinite, beautiful, lovely plans. 10 For they truly
- 10:21for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure, but He
- 10:27for our profit, that we might be partakers of His Holiness.
- 10:33So our earthly fathers only had us as little children for a
- 10:37short time, but God Almighty deals with us for 100 years or
- 10:44so. And in that 100 years or so,
- 10:47He's teaching us lesson upon lesson upon lesson upon lesson
- 10:52as He pulls out all of the things that don't belong so that
- 10:55we can become more and more and more and more like Jesus Christ
- 11:00every day. And if you woke up today, He's
- 11:02not done with you. And His mercies are new every
- 11:05day, friends, and He's still working on you.
- 11:08And whenever your sanctification is complete, it will be time for
- 11:17you to go home. 11 Now no chastising, for the present
- 11:25seems to be joyous, but grievous nevertheless.
- 11:32Afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness
- 11:38unto them, which are exercised thereby.
- 11:44So you can see here that God is after fruit, friends, and we
- 11:48cannot despise the root. You don't get the fruit without
- 11:53cultivating the root, friends. And it takes the pruning and the
- 12:00cutting off of the things that don't belong, And it never feels
- 12:04good in the moment. But give it time, and in due
- 12:08season it'll produce the fruit that God is after. 12 Wherefore
- 12:15lift up your head, hands which hang down, and the feeble knees.
- 12:21He said don't be downcast when you're corrected.
- 12:25Just remember that correction is not rejection and He's calling
- 12:31for maturation. Friends, we are not animals, we
- 12:35are not effeminate, we are not little boys, We are called to be
- 12:40great and mighty men of God, Friends, and take the whole word
- 12:44to the whole world. 13 and make straight paths for your feet,
- 12:52lest that which is lane be turned out of the way.
- 12:55But let it rather be healed. God puts the balm of Gilead upon
- 13:00that oozing, pussing, infectious, sore wound friends,
- 13:07and He heals it, and he straightens those crooked legs
- 13:11up, and he lights up the path for your feet, so you don't trip
- 13:16and you don't fall down and become apostate and fall away.
- 13:2314 Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man
- 13:30shall seek the Lord. You need to understand that we
- 13:34have to love the Lord God with all of your heart, with all of
- 13:37your mind, with all of your strength, and love your neighbor
- 13:40as yourself, and then do by and by doing so, you have fulfilled
- 13:44all the law, friends, and you will see the face of God.
- 13:49That is what is referenced here. Try to live peaceably as best as
- 13:55you can amongst your neighbors and love God with everything
- 14:01you've got. Give him your all 110% towards
- 14:06God. Nothing.
- 14:08Held back, all naked and bare before his eyes. 15 Looking
- 14:17diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root
- 14:23of bitterness springing up, trouble you, and thereby many be
- 14:28defiled. That's what it looks like for a
- 14:31Christian to become embittered. It's completely opposite.
- 14:40Bitterness and following after God should not ever be in the
- 14:45same body, and He's saying here that we have to cut out this
- 14:53root of bitterness before it ever matures into a tree that
- 14:59actually is destructive to many people.
- 15:03There are many ministries that were built upon this bitterness
- 15:09and it actually caused many to fall away because they didn't
- 15:13see any difference inside the church that they did out in the
- 15:17world. All they saw was hypocrisy and
- 15:21duplicity and all they saw was backbiting and murmuring and all
- 15:26they saw were lives that were actually unchanged.
- 15:30And it did the word of God and it did the House of God much
- 15:38damage. Friends 16 lest there be any
- 15:46fornicator or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of meat
- 15:52sold his birthright. That's what it looks like,
- 15:55friends whenever we squander our inheritance for a mess of
- 15:59pottage. That's what it looks like,
- 16:02Friends when we've come all the way to the door but we refuse to
- 16:05go in. That's what it looks like
- 16:08whenever we wear the badge of Christ.
- 16:13But we are dirty and disgusting and deplorable in our private
- 16:18lives, and we will be found out, and everything done in the dark
- 16:23will be talked about in the light.
- 16:26And that is God's business, and He will reveal all of the
- 16:31wickedness. And we need to confess and
- 16:34repent today. We need to go and receive
- 16:38forgiveness today. And we need to forgive ourselves
- 16:41today. And we need to stay away from
- 16:44those places. Do not even go near the door,
- 16:48friends. 17 for you know how that afterward, when he would
- 16:55have inherited the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no
- 17:00place of repentance, though he sought for it carefully with
- 17:04tears. When the five foolish virgins
- 17:07come to the door and they bam on it and they bang on it and they
- 17:11knock on it and they plead and cry to come in, the door is
- 17:16already shut to the bride chamber.
- 17:19Friends, the wise virgins have already gone in with the groom.
- 17:25When we stand before Jesus Christ and we say we've
- 17:30prophesied in your name, we've cast out demons in your name,
- 17:34we've performed miracles in your name.
- 17:36And he says, depart from me, for I never knew you.
- 17:40There's no amount of tears that will ever make him know you like
- 17:45you can be known today. Don't wait until it's too late.
- 17:5518 For you are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and
- 18:01that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and
- 18:05Tempest. 19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words.
- 18:11Which voice they that heard and treated that the word should not
- 18:15be spoken to them anymore. So here we can see Mount Sinai,
- 18:21and we can see it right next to Mount Zion, and we can see what
- 18:26our inheritance is. And we can see how the
- 18:28Israelites were so afraid and Moses was so afraid.
- 18:33But we have a better inheritance, friends, And you
- 18:36can see mercy all throughout the Old Testament and you can see
- 18:41much judgment all throughout the New Testament, Friends.
- 18:46It is not that God all of a sudden flipped the script and
- 18:49turned things around. It's Jesus from Genesis.
- 18:52It's Jesus all the way through to Malachi and is Jesus from
- 18:57Matthew to Revelation, Friends. It is Jesus Christ the same
- 19:01yesterday, today, and forever, friends.
- 19:05And you can see here that God desired during this Mount Zion.
- 19:14You could see that it was during this time, friends, that God
- 19:18Almighty was showing us a better way.
- 19:21And the Israelites all the way back here, they were so afraid
- 19:27of God's voice and they told Moses, just tell us what to do
- 19:31and we'll do it. And not long after that, they
- 19:35got up and played and had disgusting, deplorable idol
- 19:40worship after they had already experienced all of the blackness
- 19:45of the gloom when they've already experienced the voice of
- 19:48God thundering and trumpets blasted, and they did not let
- 19:55their revelation of God's power and might actually produce.
- 20:03The things that God wanted in their lives.
- 20:05And we can see here the writer of Hebrews is beckoning us back
- 20:09to this moment, and he's saying that you have a much better
- 20:13inheritance than the Mount Sinai, which is the law.
- 20:18But we are called to Mount Zion, which is the good news of the
- 20:22Lord Jesus Christ. 20 For they could not endure that which was
- 20:32commanded. And if so much as a beast
- 20:35touched the mountain, it shall be stoned or thrust through with
- 20:39the dart. 21 And so terrible was the sight that Moses said, I
- 20:44exceedingly fear and quake, so we could see the earth shaking.
- 20:50We could see it here as Moses received the law. 22 But you are
- 20:58come unto Mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the
- 21:03heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.
- 21:10So we can see here that we're headed towards New Jerusalem.
- 21:14Friends, we can see here that we have the good news.
- 21:19We're looking back as Moses and all the Israelites of old and
- 21:23the prophets of old look forward to Jesus.
- 21:26We look back and we can see it in the full scope.
- 21:29How much more responsible are we?
- 21:33And God is going to ask you, what did you do with his Son?
- 21:3923 To the General Assembly and Church of the first born, which
- 21:44are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the
- 21:49spirits of just men, made perfect.
- 21:52That's you and me, Saint. We're being made perfect because
- 21:56of what Jesus Christ did. Nothing that we do, but
- 21:59everything that he did. And he is the first born.
- 22:03He is all man and all God, and he ascended to the right hand of
- 22:08the Father and took humanity into God's presence. 24 And to
- 22:15Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
- 22:19sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel.
- 22:25So here we see Abel's blood crying out for vengeance, and we
- 22:29see now Christ's blood cries out and says it is finished, that
- 22:36everything is under the blood of Jesus Christ. 25 See that you
- 22:41refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not, who
- 22:45refused Him that spoke on earth much more Shall we not escape if
- 22:49we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven?
- 22:52This apostasy, friends, there is no more redemption, there is no
- 22:57more forgiveness outside of Jesus Christ.
- 23:00He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes unto
- 23:03the Father except through Him. And if we turn our backs on
- 23:07Jesus, there is no more saving for you. 26 Whose voice then
- 23:13shook the earth. But now he has promised, saying
- 23:16yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
- 23:20When Jesus Christ died on the cross, there was an earthquake,
- 23:25friends, and it shook the earth. But what God is saying, He's
- 23:30going to shake not only heaven, but he's going to shake earth.
- 23:34Again, friends, And anything that can be shaken will be
- 23:38removed, and only those things that are built upon the solid
- 23:42rock, the chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ, will remain. 27
- 23:50And this word yet once more signifies the removing of those
- 23:56things that are shaken as of things that are made, that those
- 24:01things which cannot be shaken may remain.
- 24:03This is not semantics, friends. Lock in.
- 24:07He's saying that his Word will never returned.
- 24:11Boyd. He's saying that heaven and
- 24:13earth shall pass away, but not one of his words will ever pass
- 24:17away. And he is the Word.
- 24:21And the Word became flesh and dwelt among men. 28 Wherefore we
- 24:28receiving a Kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace
- 24:35whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and
- 24:40godly fear. Work out your salvation with
- 24:43fear and trembling, and make sure that you have grace on the
- 24:48ignorant and on those who do not know yet.
- 24:52And don't be afraid to share with every single man, woman and
- 24:56child that you come in contact with today about Jesus Christ.
- 25:01Do not fear if they will accept it or reject it, just shower
- 25:05them with God's grace. We'll end on 29 for our God is a
- 25:10consuming fire. No one has even looked at God
- 25:14and lived. He's brighter than all the Suns
- 25:18that we even know about. In all of the universe all put
- 25:21together. You cannot even stare at the
- 25:23known sun that we have in our sky, much less try to stare at
- 25:29God. He is an all consuming fire.
- 25:32To even look upon Him, you would be vaporized.
- 25:36The only way we can see God is if we look to Jesus Christ.
- 25:41And if you've seen Jesus, then you've seen God.
- 25:44What an amazing thought. I hope you've been blessed by
- 25:53this incredible chapter here in God's Word.
- 25:56I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 25:59of you. I love you, so does God.
- 26:08We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 26:10God bless you.
