- 0:03Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 0:07Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 0:11Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 0:15Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 0:19Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom the United States
- 0:23Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 0:28Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 0:31Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 0:35Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 0:39Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 0:43Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 0:46Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 0:55Speaker 1: border and families will be protected.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Leadership effectiveness there goes as saying that great leaders are born,
- 1:05Speaker 3: not made. I'm sure we've all encountered a child, whether
- 1:10Speaker 3: it was a niece, nephew. You know your daughter, your
- 1:12Speaker 3: son a student that we felt like, oh, that was
- 1:15Speaker 3: a born leader, Like he has the skills at such
- 1:18Speaker 3: a young child to be a leader. And you know,
- 1:22Speaker 3: in my opinion, to some extent, I think the capacity
- 1:25Speaker 3: for great leadership is in me. However, we can all
- 1:29Speaker 3: benefit from learning how to become a more effective leader.
- 1:33Speaker 3: And although some people seem to just be gifted with
- 1:35Speaker 3: these skills, leadership kits can be learned and they can
- 1:39Speaker 3: be sharpened with time and practice. So I think it's
- 1:41Speaker 3: really important to go over and cover just what are
- 1:45Speaker 3: just some general traits of a powerful and successful leader
- 1:48Speaker 3: in business. So I'll start with communication. Communicating effectively is key.
- 1:56Speaker 3: You must be able as a leader to clearly and
- 1:58Speaker 3: concisely explain business goals, tasks and objectives to your employees.
- 2:04Speaker 3: If you find that in conversation you're not getting the
- 2:09Speaker 3: message you're trying to relay across, or the individual that
- 2:13Speaker 3: you're speaking to is not retaining the information, you need
- 2:17Speaker 3: to sharpen your communications skills. So you should be comfortable
- 2:21Speaker 3: speaking with one on one or you may be in
- 2:24Speaker 3: front of a large audience or communicating to an entire staff.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But ultimately, whatever you're trying to relay whatever information you
- 2:31Speaker 3: want to get across, it needs to be retained and
- 2:33Speaker 3: understood and it needs to be clear, so you know
- 2:36Speaker 3: that that's an important factor in leadership. And also you
- 2:40Speaker 3: want to be approachable. Communication is all about the steady
- 2:43Speaker 3: flow of verbal exchanges of ideas and information, So as
- 2:47Speaker 3: a leader, you must be approachable so that individuals will
- 2:50Speaker 3: come to you and you can have that constant flow
- 2:52Speaker 3: of conversation, motivate and inspire. This is a big one.
- 2:58Speaker 3: So successful leadership is built on people. The best leaders
- 3:02Speaker 3: they do drive their people with passion, enthusiasm, inspiration and motivation.
- 3:07Speaker 3: You have to invest the time and the people so
- 3:10Speaker 3: you are able to learn what are their strengths, what
- 3:12Speaker 3: are their needs, what are their priorities? Right, because if
- 3:15Speaker 3: you don't stay and the rest of this information, how
- 3:18Speaker 3: are you able to make them feel valued and reinforce
- 3:21Speaker 3: how their efforts are making a difference. And you also
- 3:25Speaker 3: need to be sure as a leader you're encouraging their
- 3:27Speaker 3: development because again their potential, meaningful goals and challenges need
- 3:32Speaker 3: to be important to you as a leader, and you
- 3:35Speaker 3: should also be setting clear goals and determine who's being
- 3:40Speaker 3: able to achieve them.
- 3:41Speaker 4: And address them accordingly.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Also, as a leader for yourself, you want to take
- 3:45Speaker 3: a step back and make sure that you're setting goals
- 3:47Speaker 3: for yourself because once you radiate that enthusiasm, you're truly
- 3:52Speaker 3: excited about what you're doing, and people will naturally be
- 3:55Speaker 3: drawn to you. They will naturally see that while this
- 3:59Speaker 3: individual's motivate, this one is setting their own goals.
- 4:01Speaker 4: So now we.
- 4:02Speaker 3: All know when we're working for someone that doesn't truly
- 4:06Speaker 3: motivate and inspire us, we're not going to put our
- 4:08Speaker 3: best effort forward. So that's a key. When you want
- 4:12Speaker 3: to lead a team, you got to motivate them demonstrate integrity.
- 4:20Speaker 3: So this is a piece that I work with you
- 4:23Speaker 3: in employee relations is really driving integrity.
- 4:26Speaker 4: So this is like a big one for me.
- 4:29Speaker 3: You have to make sure you are displaying integrity as
- 4:32Speaker 3: a leader through your daily actions, decision making behaviors, and
- 4:37Speaker 3: you want to hold yourself accountable and take responsibility for
- 4:41Speaker 3: your mistakes, and that's critical. Do not compromise your leadership
- 4:45Speaker 3: for the sake of not being able to acknowledge you've
- 4:48Speaker 3: made a mistake or maybe that wasn't the best decision right.
- 4:52Speaker 3: In my opinion, this is the most important because you
- 4:54Speaker 3: want to be respected. You want to be respected for
- 4:58Speaker 3: being genuine, principal, ethical, and consistent right. It's otherwise you
- 5:05Speaker 3: will face terrible repercussions. You could take action that can
- 5:09Speaker 3: impact your business negatively, just because you tried to cut corners,
- 5:14Speaker 3: just because you wanted the easy way out, or just
- 5:16Speaker 3: because you weren't acting with displaying full integrity. You got
- 5:21Speaker 3: to lead by example, and you know ultimately you want
- 5:24Speaker 3: to set the right example, so you need to be demonstrated.
- 5:28Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 7:26Speaker 3: daily options, your employees will respect you and they will
- 7:29Speaker 3: be confident.
- 7:30Speaker 4: In your leadership.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Because I've encountered leaders that I kind of questioned their ethics,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and I'm not gonna want to again put my.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Best foot forward.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So you have to ultimately understand you are leading by
- 7:42Speaker 3: example and you want to be proud and ethical in
- 7:45Speaker 3: all of your behaviors into the decision making, So managing complexity.
- 7:54Speaker 3: As a leader, you're going to solve problems and you're
- 7:58Speaker 3: going to need to make decisions under rapidly shifting circumstances.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Learning to lead in a complex environment it is a
- 8:08Speaker 3: vital skill. When facing a tough decision, you have to
- 8:13Speaker 3: really start by determining what do I want to achieve?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Way all the factors, consider all the consequences, and you
- 8:20Speaker 3: know what are the available alternatives. So as a leader,
- 8:23Speaker 3: you have to be confident in whatever decision you're.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Going to make and you know you need to make it.
- 8:28Speaker 4: You have to make these tough calls.
- 8:29Speaker 3: It may be you know, literally you don't have a
- 8:32Speaker 3: lot of time to make a difficult call.
- 8:33Speaker 4: So as a leader, you just have to always be
- 8:35Speaker 4: on top of it.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And you know there may not be any definitive information available. However,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you have to be able to assess the situation's complexity
- 8:46Speaker 3: and determine what's the best course of action. You may
- 8:49Speaker 3: not have a ton of resources or you may not
- 8:53Speaker 3: have everything, but again you have to work with the
- 8:55Speaker 3: information you have. So managing complexity and problem solving is
- 9:00Speaker 3: really key when it comes to leadership.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Now learning agility, so.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Great leaders know what the strength of their leadership is
- 9:13Speaker 3: built on the ability to adapt to all the changing circumstances, right,
- 9:17Speaker 3: so you have to know how and when to seize
- 9:21Speaker 3: one opportunities. We are all constantly learning and growing. Once
- 9:25Speaker 3: you've reached the platform in your career, that can't be
- 9:29Speaker 3: the hard stop on. When you're continuing to gather information,
- 9:33Speaker 3: you have to expand on your knowledge and that's a
- 9:36Speaker 3: reason why you all are here a part of eyl
- 9:39Speaker 3: University because we are expanding on your knowledge. You never
- 9:43Speaker 3: stop learning, no matter how far you've grown in your career,
- 9:47Speaker 3: no matter how many accolades you've received, no matter how
- 9:50Speaker 3: many degrees you have, there is always a teachable moment
- 9:53Speaker 3: and you have to understand that you do.
- 9:56Speaker 4: We don't know everything. There's always something to learn.
- 9:59Speaker 3: You have to make a learning opportunity out of every
- 10:01Speaker 3: single situation. So it's important that as a leader to
- 10:04Speaker 3: understand that and just be agile non positional leadership. When
- 10:16Speaker 3: we think about leadership, we often consider like a title
- 10:20Speaker 3: or position. So we think about our managers, We think
- 10:24Speaker 3: about our CEOs, we think about our vice presidents, our
- 10:26Speaker 3: strategic directors.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Are you know, senior aids.
- 10:30Speaker 3: We think about just leadership role. We think about the
- 10:33Speaker 3: power that is associated with these leadership roles.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:38Speaker 3: However, in non positional leadership, you can cultivate cultivate influence
- 10:43Speaker 3: among a group, so you really don't need authority from
- 10:48Speaker 3: others to be considered a leader. Most people often grow
- 10:53Speaker 3: to a leader because they've demonstrated those behaviors and exhibited
- 10:57Speaker 3: those signs early on in their careers. So if you
- 11:01Speaker 3: have high aspirations, it's recommended that you do take every
- 11:05Speaker 3: opportunity to step outside of the role and I prove
- 11:07Speaker 3: that you're capable of much more. And I see this
- 11:11Speaker 3: nonpositional leadership role coming out. It's when you have like
- 11:16Speaker 3: a breakout employee, when you're leading from the middle, when
- 11:20Speaker 3: you're taking initiative, when you're going that extra step and
- 11:24Speaker 3: holding on some of the leadership skills that will improve
- 11:28Speaker 3: on the workplace dynamic, will increase the efficiency of your
- 11:31Speaker 3: entire team, and just will raise the bar for the
- 11:34Speaker 3: quality of work. So you don't have to have the
- 11:37Speaker 3: title or that authority to feel like you can go
- 11:41Speaker 3: out of there and make an impact.
- 11:43Speaker 4: It could because you will be recognized right
