- 0:28Speaker 1: Was it a hurricane when it hit?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a lot of water.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Okay, everybody's alright Kind of went east yeah, where I was, but A lot of rain, a lot of wind.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to talk.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Last time we talked about running backs for the Florida State Seminoles this season.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Today we're going to talk.
- 0:53Speaker 1: We're going to switch it up, go to the other side of the ball and talk about defensive tackles A really strong position this season we're also going to get.

- 1:07Speaker 1: The coaches poll is out.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We'll see where the teams are ranked.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We'll go over Florida State's first scrimmage.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It was close to the public, but we'll go over what the coaches said about it and some numbers.

- 1:53Speaker 1: We're also on YouTube, not today.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The Olympics are going on.
- 2:07Speaker 1: My touch on the golf today was a historic Sunday over in Paris, but we got a complete Olympic-pride reaction after it's all completed.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So buckle up, let's get going.
- 2:31Speaker 1: All right, we'll start it out with a scrimmage.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And you know Florida State's what Double digit now in practices for the 2024 season?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Today was number 10.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Wow, I can't believe it's here.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I had 19 days away man.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And it's a reminder when the weather's like this.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It's an annual thing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah Well, you know.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The first scrimmage was said to be dominated by the defense, according to Coach Norvell, which is to be expected early in the season.
- 3:09Speaker 1: However, there was a 20-play drive led by DJ.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I like to see that, but D-tackle and Adam Fuller touched on the depth he had at D-tackle.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You probably didn't.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I don't think Farmer or Jackson played much, but you have guys like Grady Kelly, daniel Lyons, kj Samson and then Tomiwa.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Right right Dorje Transfer.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Dorje Dorje Transfer Dorje Dorje.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Six guys that you trust right.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Right, that's what he said and that's good to hear.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And the depth, if that's legit, like they can.
- 3:58Speaker 2: They really have that and have that in mind for this season.
- 4:02Speaker 2: The guys are going to just stay fresh at that level.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Just like last year, and yeah, it's well, you have your two, you have four guys that are coming back, and then you add the depth with the transfers that they can produce.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And you know, grady Kelly was a freshman, all American, at.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Colorado state.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So the guy I mean you know the guy, I mean, well, you know the guy that has done I mean at least in terms of at FSU Right, that's done the most that's returning is Farmer Right, and he was.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I mean he's been really good for about a year and a half at least, if not the last two seasons.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He's been really productive.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So I mean you expect him and probably jackson to start together, but I, like you said, if it's really six deep, you're gonna see a lot of different.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised to see farmer and jackson get a little more run, you know, this year, knowing that that's probably their last year yeah, yeah, but they're, you know, you remember they're gonna rotate them right and that's gonna only make it more effective.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and I, I think you know, you remember, they're going to rotate them Right and that's going to only make it more effective.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think Fisk talked about KJ Sampson in the spring game as one to watch.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think you're going to see a lot of him.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You're going to see a lot of Lions.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got Daniel Lyons and KJ Sampson Both of those transfers.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Both the guys on the team that you know are looking to step into playing time.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They haven't really played much.
- 5:26Speaker 1: They've been here developing.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Let's see what they got this year.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And with the you have two true freshman defensive tackles that you brought in, but they're both just the big body type, so you're hopefully redshirt, yeah yeah, play them sparingly.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You know you still got the four games and you still maintain your redshirt.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, play them sparingly.
- 5:45Speaker 2: You know you still got the four games and you still maintain your redshirt thing, but it's good to hear man six deep at that position.
- 5:52Speaker 2: That's a really big spot to have some strength.
- 5:57Speaker 2: You know, in the trenches I don't like it.
- 6:00Speaker 2: On the flip side though, I mean I know it's the first scrimmage of you know, whatever you call it, summer camp or whatnot the fall, but I would have liked to see a little bit more heard a little bit more positive things about the offensive line.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: But you know, with this defense, but, like you said, 20 play drives.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And the experience that they have.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And you know it's going to be tough when you're bringing in a whole new offense.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And apparently there were some drops, there were some penalties, so it's not like everything was dominant Right, but still.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'd be way more concerned if the offense did well.
- 6:42Speaker 2: honestly, Right, well, that would be yeah, yeah, Considering what you're honestly Right.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Well, that would be, yeah, yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Considering what you're bringing back Right.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The receiver.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You know the drops are concerning, and Norvell mentioned, freshman receiver.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Elijah.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he's apparently like since he stepped on campus has been making plays every day, so far every practice so far, Even before this Big body get kids 6'4 1⁄2" 200 pounds, Right, If you?
- 7:12Speaker 2: remember when we were talking about him as a recruit.
- 7:14Speaker 2: He had the longest wingspan in the country, had any kid in his class and at 6'4", that's going to be huge man.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And there's a couple highlights that you can get on the social media and find of him already.
- 7:29Speaker 2: In practice, they're just some ridiculous catches Right.
- 7:33Speaker 2: A few of them are coming from Brock Glenn, so he's running with the second team, but still I think he's going to be a kid that plays this season.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah, receiver is position and we'll get to the preview of it late at another time.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But um defensive tackle.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I think you have potentially two nfl guys in the middle yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely, and then they could, and then the potential to have two guys behind them, also when you're talking about Lyons and Sampson Right.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And then you have the edge which we'll see.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You know if Farmer with that size, he can be more of every down.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's down.
- 8:19Speaker 2: He said he wants to.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I think Set the edge.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah, well, they said he wanted to play at about 302 on the season, so you may see him as a three-down guy, I wouldn't be shocked to see Jackson.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Well, peyton as well.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Peyton has put on pounds too.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Right, well, that's your number one pass rushing threat right there.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Now you got Marvin Jones Jr coming in too, and by all accounts, he's looking really good.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Now you got Marvin Jones Jr coming in too.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So that's those are, and by all accounts, he's looking really good, yeah, so.
- 8:49Speaker 1: When you have those two guys on the end Right, and Peyton's looks like a lot bigger Now.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Is that going to affect his speed or his quickness or is he going to be able to defend the run better?
- 9:00Speaker 1: We'll see, but I like that starting that.
- 9:05Speaker 1: That push up the middle is only going to free up those guys in the edge yeah, and you're looking at guys like power ends.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Now I know like, like I know tommy tommy waugh is is tommy waugh listed at the defensive tackle, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him slide out to end at some points he played end.
- 9:25Speaker 2: He's moving to D tackle and the big transfer from Oregon State, the power end, who's about 265, 270.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I mean that's going to be.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You combine that with the speed rush of Peyton and Marvin Jones Jr.
- 9:41Speaker 1: This is the best unit, you would say most confidence.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Confidence you have and if you were to pick a unit on defense, is this right and you base a lot of it off of last season and seeing them actually in the talent that you have right, but you've seen, you've seen, yeah you've seen the concept done at a high level and you, you I mean you optimistic that they can do it again yeah, they've done a really good job replacing the guys that left it year in and year out.
- 10:11Speaker 1: They've been able to target the depth at it, find more at that position in particular up like up and down the line.
- 10:21Speaker 2: So you gotta win in the trenches, man.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't.
- 10:25Speaker 2: You don't have a chance if you can't do that Right, at least not with the teams that we play and the area that we're in, so defensive tackle being one that looks to be again knocking on wood pretty healthy going into the start of the season.
- 10:44Speaker 1: All right, yeah, that's good to hear.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I think we'll go back to offense next time.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Take a deep dive into those wide receivers.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah that'll be the next one, but you know we go back to the scrimmage and you know, like I said, I think it's positive.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You want to see the defense dominate.
- 11:11Speaker 1: You want to see your depth at defensive line get accustomed to what Adam Fuller and Odell want from them as far as the rotation and what to expect in the team you got a lot of new guys there, maybe a team that has to lean on the defense in terms of consistency.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I want to keep Farmer and Jackson fresh for that first game.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and they know what they're doing.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Just keep them hungry.
- 11:46Speaker 1: And you know I'd like to get those other guys developed behind them more and I that's probably what you'll see in like the practices and the scrimmage to see those guys maybe get more snaps, which is exciting, but it's going to come down to the quarterback and I know that kind of scares you heading into the season and because Georgia Tech has a guy who's been there?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Who's been there?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he's played games in that system.
- 12:21Speaker 2: He's been through things, lost a lot of games.
- 12:25Speaker 1: A former Jimbo recruit.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, those are the quarterbacks that scare me.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I mean obviously the big-time Q, the guys that have lost a lot of games, but it's not because of them.
- 12:35Speaker 2: They still have talent.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I've been on the losing and all kinds of shit Well.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now that what's the Georgia Tech key?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He has got it, I think.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Chris Winkie man.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they got Winkie Coach game.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's going to be.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Passing game coordinator.
- 12:55Speaker 1: A big game and going to have to buckle them up.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I think it's one of the tougher conference games of the year outside of Clemson.
- 13:04Speaker 2: You may see Georgia Tech take it to FSU before the game too.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I think they're going to come in and snag an offensive line recruit that they have.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Both of the schools are after in Josh Petty.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a big pickup.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, man, I mean, it's not to be taken lightly.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Run the ball Right, run the ball.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Run the ball Right Run the ball, run the ball exactly.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Short passes, easy decisions.
- 13:30Speaker 1: We talked about the running backs already but just run the football.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It's all right.
- 13:35Speaker 2: That's going to be the bread and butter of this team has to be.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So what fears you about Georgia Tech in particular?
- 13:46Speaker 2: I don't know if there's anything about Georgia Tech that scares me as much as just about the uncertainty going in.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I mean, you know, we've had the same quarterback for the last three seasons until you know, with Jordan Travis you knew what you were getting.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Now you're.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I mean, it's just, you know this is a dabbo QB.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Right, he's the guy that went to play for Clemson and there's a lot about it that I don't even know if I would say makes me nervous.
- 14:13Speaker 2: It's just, it feels a little uneasy.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Well, you have it's a different game and people will say you haven't look at Jordan Travis.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this is a guy that was not looking.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Well, it's side by side, side by side.
- 14:27Speaker 1: He's about to quit the position.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think it's a question who has better arm talent out of the two quarterbacks Norvell didn't recruit Jordan Travis no he just didn't yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 1: He didn't recruit DJ earlier in his career?
- 14:46Speaker 2: No, I mean, I don't think those were a transition guys that were even on his radar when he was at memphis.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I mean for different reasons right, because it dj was right up there as the top guy.
- 14:55Speaker 2: He's at memphis like clear top.
- 14:57Speaker 2: He was like the number one quarterback if you're at memphis so the talent's there and it really excites me honestly.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the receiver position is one that kind of questions me, but I'm really excited to see DJ.
- 15:11Speaker 2: If you had to pinpoint, like for me it'd just be like his familiarity of the offense.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Like, how comfortable is he going to feel?
- 15:18Speaker 1: right off the bat.
- 15:19Speaker 2: That's the only thing that kind of makes me uneasy about it.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And you know games in Ireland.
- 15:25Speaker 1: But that is.
- 15:26Speaker 1: But I'm really happy to have that they finally have the headpiece.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Like I really like that is going to be a huge difference maker for some players you know, especially at the quarterback position.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm, you know.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I'm just going to say that, like I don't, I say that I think there may be people in the fan base that have also written off Brock Glenn, but I wouldn't be so quick to do that.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I'm not writing off any of those guys?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Brock Glenn or Luke Cromenhag?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Those are the next guys.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Ultimately, you don't want him playing a whole lot this year, but I think QB will be fine.
- 16:08Speaker 2: It's just early on.
- 16:10Speaker 1: If we lose a few games, then why not?
- 16:13Speaker 1: But you're going for it with this defense.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if we lose an ACC game before we play Miami, I think it would probably be this first game, just because it's the first game.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Well, yeah, and they have a tough opponent.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean, it's not just a pushover, but it's the first game for this guy in a new offense, new teammates, new everything.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Right against a veteran quarterback returning?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and I get it.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He's been playing well.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I get it that he went out to Oregon State and handled himself very well, but again, there's considerable more pressure.
- 16:53Speaker 2: When you're QB at FSU, you know what this is going to be.
- 16:56Speaker 1: It's a lot more comparable to being at Clemson Well this is again, I think, where Norvell is going to show what kind?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Of coach he is I agree with you and why he just got that big contract?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Because it's about instilling confidence and developing that.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And I mean you want to say I've heard you know the naysayers say, well, he hasn't played a guy that he's recruited, well, he took the guy that was there and he used him, used him the whole time and and got the maximum and I'm going to, I'm going to say this I think I think that he is surrounded by a better Andy, better offensive, you know, skill, talent than what he had that second year at Clemson when everything fell on him Right, uh, so that you know, and you got an offensive line.
- 17:42Speaker 2: That's and you have an offensive line that has veterans Running game, and commitment to the running game is the biggest thing.
- 17:49Speaker 1: So combine that with the running game, the offensive line, that's your strength and then the headset and the helmet, you can calm him down, make it easy, and that's what excites me going into the season.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Maybe we could finally see dj, because you know I've seen it in a game.
- 18:09Speaker 1: You know we saw it right here in tallahassee yeah, I mean, that's it.
- 18:14Speaker 2: That was the best, probably the best player on the field.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Was that two years ago?
- 18:19Speaker 1: yes, that was his yeah last time they were in tallahassee.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Right, and that's the season that everybody in Clemson was blaming him for everything, and he just came in.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He was the best player on the field that game?
- 18:32Speaker 1: yes, he was.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I mean, he was running it, he was throwing dimes deep, and that's what you want to see oh yeah, I mean yeah, that's what you want to see.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, and I think that's.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I guarantee you that that performance is the number one thing that Norvell probably had when that DJ came available.
- 18:56Speaker 2: It was like well, hey, look at that, I mean.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I've seen live and in person what he can do when he's on and confident out there.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And that's you're right man, I mean that's what Norvell does.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And you got Brock Glenn.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I know a lot of people, I don't think just because of the spot he was put in last season and then what happened?
- 19:20Speaker 1: He probably he shouldn't even play.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Right, you don't even play.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So right, you don't even really know what you got there, I think the fact that he but it's still good to get him out there he has that on his.
- 19:33Speaker 2: His resume is what's motivating him.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I think you know.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I hope DJ plays every game this season, but I think that QB will be fine.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I don't know, man, this season you just got to knock on wood.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Hope they stay healthy.
- 19:55Speaker 2: But there's definitely they got a shot.
- 19:58Speaker 2: They got a shot at about 7-5 maybe.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Oh God 8-4 if they're lucky, yeah Well, we're going to4 if they're lucky.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah Well, we're going to do wins and losses later.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Big news out of South Bend man.
- 20:12Speaker 2: They just lost their starting left tackle.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well, let's go.
- 20:15Speaker 1: The coach's poll came out and we'll go over it.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Who's?
- 20:21Speaker 2: number one, let me guess.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Who do you think I mean if it's not Georgia?
- 20:27Speaker 2: it's Georgia.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, which I mean.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Honestly, if you think about it, I don't see them losing this year.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I mean, I don't, I don't even know their schedule, but you're yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean who's gonna they play in the East?
- 20:42Speaker 2: I mean Tennessee's not going to beat them, florida's not going to beat them.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Do they play.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Alabama, they do well, we'll see because I mean that's the thing even if they happen to slip up, they're still going to make the playoff right.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I think they'd have to lose like three games, maybe even four to we'll see, though.
- 21:05Speaker 1: So you got Georgia number one.
- 21:07Speaker 1: No shocker there.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Ohio State number two, ohio State number two, and they're bringing in the guy from Kansas State.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, what the heck is the name?
- 21:18Speaker 1: Colin Klein?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right.
- 21:21Speaker 1: No, it's not Colin.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Klein.
- 21:22Speaker 2: No, it's not him man.
- 21:22Speaker 2: He went to A&M.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Anywho.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Anywho.
- 21:29Speaker 2: No, they brought in Chip Kelly for some reason.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yes, chip Kelly leaves head coaching position at UCLA.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Right, that's now in the Big Ten.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And to take offensive coordinator for Ryan Day at Ohio State, because he just wants to call plays.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah, call plays.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Don't want to do all that stuff.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But he wants to call plays and still, you know, they're still going to throw the ball right Because we got all these receivers and we they're still going to throw the ball right Because we got all these receivers and we're not just going to run the ball the whole time, like that's going to be interesting to see what happens, the new offense at Ohio State Right and new quarterback.
- 22:04Speaker 1: What's going to?
- 22:05Speaker 1: You know?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Is it going to be?
- 22:07Speaker 2: Well, it's Walker Howard.
- 22:08Speaker 2: That's who you're thinking of, the guy the quarterback from Kansas.
- 22:11Speaker 1: State yeah, Howard.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's not known for a guy that's going to put up 500 yards passing.
- 22:19Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 22:25Speaker 1: All right, well, you got after Ohio State.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Coming in at number three, his fellow Big Ten member, new to the Big Ten this year at Oregon, dan Lanning and the Ducks.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Dan Lanning, Dan, Lanning Dan.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Lanning Coming in at number three.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Number three man, I get it.
- 22:48Speaker 2: There's a lot of hype coming from Oregon.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they're hitting it on all facets.
- 22:53Speaker 2: They just could have figured out how to beat Washington killing it.
- 22:54Speaker 2: They're hitting it on all facets yeah, I mean dude, they just could have figured out how to beat Washington last season.
- 22:57Speaker 1: They're paying big money.
- 22:58Speaker 1: They're getting the guys they want yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's, and I don't think it's going to be Washington.
- 23:02Speaker 1: They were right there last year.
- 23:03Speaker 1: They just came up short against Washington.
- 23:05Speaker 1: They're going coming into the Big Ten.
- 23:10Speaker 1: They got Ohio.
- 23:11Speaker 2: State.
- 23:11Speaker 2: So you got number two and number three are going to be playing each other.
- 23:14Speaker 2: That's going to be a good one.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Man Oregon, are you buying the hype?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Number three you know they have.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I mean they got Oklahoma's quarterback from last year.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, dylan Gabriel, yeah, dylan Gabriel, who I?
- 23:33Speaker 1: think is a good quarterback he is.
- 23:33Speaker 1: He is when he's healthy, right?
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah, dylan Gabriel, yeah, dylan.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Gabriel, who I think is a good quarterback he is.
- 23:36Speaker 2: He is when he's healthy.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Right, if he can stay healthy.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Right, that's been his story.
- 23:41Speaker 1: We'll see what he can do there at Oregon.
- 23:45Speaker 2: But number three they got a lot of talent out there.
- 23:49Speaker 1: They got Number two and number three.
- 23:51Speaker 1: You know it's kind of they're both bringing in new quarterbacks, transfer portal, and they're both got the high great recruiting a lot of talent.
- 24:01Speaker 1: And then you got Chip Kelly coming in as the new play caller, dan Lanningstain talking crap and not taking the Alabama job, and all that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And so there's a lot of momentum going.
- 24:16Speaker 2: But you know, I don't know.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I don't have nearly as confidence as I do in them as I do in Georgia Right.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I mean, I think Georgia is probably the only team that I mean.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Now they've had some injuries in camp up front, but I mean with what they returned, you know.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Georgia had 46.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I heard they look good in their exhibition postseason.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Whatever they played in.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, I don't know, don't matter.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Nah, I don't Don't matter, bo, I don't watch practice games.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Ohio State number two.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Oregon did not.
- 24:53Speaker 1: They had seven first place votes.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Ohio state did uh 46 for georgia.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Oregon did not receive any first place votes, but texas did and they're coming in at number four.
- 25:04Speaker 2: they had one okay, this is where I start to kind of and they got clinton ewers coming back yeah, I know, man quinn.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Man, quinn Ewers, the guy Quinn Ewers, I guess.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Did they get some big transfers?
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I know that they're going to score points.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Sarkeesian is an offensive guy.
- 25:24Speaker 2: What do they have on defense?
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the question to me, out of all these teams up front in the top five.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I'm sorry they got their defenses considerably worse than the other.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Well, they got Pete Witkowski, the new defense coordinator from Washington this year.
- 25:48Speaker 2: That's great man.
- 25:50Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Like I said, that's another big position.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Coaches are great man.
- 25:53Speaker 2: It's personnel.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Well, that's big.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Well, you're going to see a new personnel.
- 25:56Speaker 2: They've recruited very, very poorly along the defensive front since Sarkeesian got there.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So you've got two units on the top five teams that you're kind of questioning and that's, you know, Ohio State's offense.
- 26:08Speaker 1: What are they going to be with the new coordinator?
- 26:10Speaker 2: What.
- 26:10Speaker 1: What's Texas defense going to be with the new coordinator?
- 26:12Speaker 1: Those are big changes.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and assumptions that they're going to just keep rolling, and you never know with those kind of changes.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I mean, if you're sitting in Ohio State, at least you got the talent, there's no lack of talent in either place.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Well, We'll find out.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I guess at your state of Texas.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'm saying, on the defensive side, who's up front for you?
- 26:33Speaker 2: You lost some guys that were really good, but who'd you replace them with?
- 26:37Speaker 1: Right, guess we got to see Yep.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Okay, so we've gone over the top four.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Number five.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Number five Alabama.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It's Alabama, yeah, okay, and no more Nick Saban, but they do have Jalen Monroe coming back.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they got him coming back.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, washington's coach Kalen DeBoer DeBoer Coming down to Tuscaloosa.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they still got talent.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Oh goodness gracious.
- 27:08Speaker 2: yeah, I mean obviously.
- 27:10Speaker 1: We didn't take all their players.
- 27:11Speaker 2: No, no, they got plenty.
- 27:14Speaker 2: We didn't take all their players.
- 27:17Speaker 2: No, no, they got plenty.
- 27:19Speaker 2: My question will be on the defense, like, do they?
- 27:24Speaker 2: You know what's it look like?
- 27:24Speaker 2: I mean, you're losing a guy in Nick Saban, whose entire program was kind of the backbone of that was the defensive identity.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Right, Well, yeah, that's another.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of big questions to be coaching wise.
- 27:39Speaker 1: This is probably no bigger, no bigger shoes to fill.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah, there's some big time assumptions going into this preseason ranking.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Oh which every season Right.
- 27:49Speaker 2: But they figure, you know, hey, he's going to come in and he's going to make Milrow a really good quarterback, right?
- 27:54Speaker 2: So the usual suspects Consistency.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Georgia, ohio, state, oregon, texas, alabama are your top five.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And then Look who's sliding in at number six.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Is O'Lane.
- 28:06Speaker 2: The Lane train.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Lane train.
- 28:09Speaker 2: This is I don't know if there's ever going to be a point in his career where the like, the expectation, is higher.
- 28:16Speaker 1: This is about as high as it gets as I remember, Ole Miss, this is top number six.
- 28:22Speaker 2: If he pulls it off this year, then, yeah, the sky's the limit in terms of what he can do at Ole Miss.
- 28:28Speaker 1: And the SEC's only got tougher this year.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You're adding Oklahoma and Texas, who are powerhouses.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he brought in a lot of transfers.
- 28:40Speaker 1: And you're Ole Miss.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you're Ole Miss.
- 28:42Speaker 1: And you have to play LSU, you have to play Alabama.
- 28:46Speaker 2: You have to play Georgia.
- 28:48Speaker 1: They're playing Georgia this year.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, wow.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So I mean the schedule, but this is a year where Ole Miss can lose two games and still make it Right.
- 29:00Speaker 2: You have a chance now with the playoffs to not Dude.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I don't have to go and I'm fine with that.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't want to see the three, though I don't want to see the three lost.
- 29:08Speaker 1: We'll see how it goes, though They'll talk.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I mean there's going to be politic and goes.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Though they'll talk, I mean there's gonna be politic and you had the he's.
- 29:20Speaker 1: He's always saying crap.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Uh, matt rule.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean, he is, he loves.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he loves to talk and he is uh, he's already saying big 10 deserves four at least at least, and so we haven't even played the season, man, like not even one fucking game just tell him like hey, like hey, man, you are the Nebraska coach and that's the.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yeah, this is not 1992.
- 29:40Speaker 1: And just remind you how much love you have for the sport and yet how kind of flawed the sport still remains when it comes down to these things, and you don't have like a true way to figure it out Now we'll find out.
- 29:55Speaker 2: 12-team playoff.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I think is they'll probably get for an actual playoff yeah, you know, before it was as it seemed and it proved itself to finally reveal itself to be a fight, the contest schmockery I mean by a committee.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Now there's still a committee and it's only going to be done.
- 30:10Speaker 1: And now then there's going to be just more teams upset.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But yeah, more teams happy and it's not going to matter as much unless, unless it's my team that's still up, right, right, and then that's pissed well yeah, start taking names and addresses folks rule and conferences politicking to get in to.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Hey, we deserve to have this many teams in the playoff.
- 30:35Speaker 1: You wonder why schools want to get out of certain conferences.
- 30:40Speaker 2: That's from a coach that knows his ceiling at a program is like eight and four.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Right and his only shot is to like man, if we get an upset, win Right, then they can't let even we beat Ohio State at one time.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Remember guys, yeah, we're eight and like, even we beat Ohio State at one time.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Remember guys, yeah, yeah, we're 8-4, but we you know we won our last seven games, All right, so Ole Miss Lane Kiffin.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yep.
- 31:01Speaker 1: He's got a good offense.
- 31:03Speaker 2: You got Notre Dame coming in.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I think the question is in defense for them.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yeah, number seven.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Schedule.
- 31:08Speaker 1: So Notre Dame at number seven, you got the Trent Riley Leonard another trend, and this is just the new college football right.
- 31:17Speaker 2: The huge, the huge news, though for for Notre Dame today yeah, losing, losing, losing big, I don't know how to say.
- 31:23Speaker 2: His last name is Jagger, so or Jag?
- 31:25Speaker 1: something the big left.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Tackle your first round pick there.
- 31:29Speaker 1: They rotate left.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Offensive line is always a strength for that team and this is a big loss.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, done for the season.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And if they had a best player on offense returning not counting the transfer of Riley Leonard it was probably this guy, so that's pretty huge for them.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Now I think they still got a chance at being really really, really good and making a shot at the playoff.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's going to.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to be able to run the table though.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Well, no, I mean, that's a left tackle, Like if they can find something to suffice, but you're talking about the guy who's going to be the anchor of that offense.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So the second year in a row they go to the ACC and grab a quarterback.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Will it pay off?
- 32:18Speaker 1: Last year, you know Jesus Sky, the hair you know came in.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Sammy Hartman.
- 32:26Speaker 1: There was a lot of hype and you know he did okay, but they lost a few games and I think the same will happen this year, especially with the injury.
- 32:36Speaker 2: You think of that news and you think of who they play first game of the season that's Texas A&M and who Texas A&M just picked up in the transfer portal in the offseason in Nick Scowerton and that's Mike Elko playing against his former quarterback.
- 32:49Speaker 2: That's the first round defensive end.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Defensive end Right and he's going to know tendencies more than anybody on that guy.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Things get hot real quick for.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Notre Dame I mean you don't have any time.
- 33:02Speaker 1: We talked about the Georgia Tech for us, man.
- 33:04Speaker 1: So let's go to the champs, because they're coming in at eight.
- 33:08Speaker 1: They're defending national champion Michigan Wolverines without Harbaugh.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Without Harbaugh, he's going to be the QB yeah, this is a.
- 33:17Speaker 1: they're going to take a step back.
- 33:18Speaker 1: How not?
- 33:18Speaker 1: How could they not?
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think their defense will still be really good.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I mean they got a bunch of talent.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:25Speaker 2: It's who's going to be the quarterback.
- 33:28Speaker 2: They still got a running game.
- 33:30Speaker 2: That orgy kid can run.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Can he do enough throwing the football?
- 33:35Speaker 2: And, like you said, you lost hardball.
- 33:35Speaker 2: You lost a lot of assistance.
- 33:37Speaker 2: But you're right it's the Big Ten.
- 33:42Speaker 2: They're gonna wax half their schedule.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You know that yeah, and because you got another Big Ten team right behind them, that's Penn State and the frauds that they are Big Ten team right behind them, and that's Penn State.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the one that and the frauds that they are yeah, I mean you don't want to say frauds because they are who they are and they're solid.
- 34:02Speaker 1: And James Franklin will not embarrass himself on the season His record is going to.
- 34:08Speaker 1: When you look at his record it's going to look pretty damn good, but if you look at every big game that guy's ever been in, he loses.
- 34:16Speaker 1: And they only play two teams every year that match them in talent and they lose to them.
- 34:26Speaker 2: And now it's a new.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Now it's a new.
- 34:27Speaker 2: You know they got more teams in the big 10.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So you're going to have more teams now with more talent.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So you're going to, if you're going to get Oregon or right, I have usc.
- 34:37Speaker 1: So what you know, I don't trust them to win those big games.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So more big games.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I think they actually take a step back to eight and four and you look at you, look at this top 10, and it's like, mathematically this can't happen.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Right, these teams all play each other, it's all just a TV.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I mean it's posturing, yeah For matchups.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Well, we got.
- 35:01Speaker 1: That leads us to number 10, our Knowles Florida State number 10.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Would have liked to see us at 12.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Right, I mean, I get it.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You're coming off an undefeated regular season.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I think the coaches understand that more than anybody, probably, and right, but you're also losing a lot of talent so you're not going to be that high, but you still have shown that you've can get talent in the transfer portal and you can rebuild.
- 35:33Speaker 2: So I think that's's Comes down to the QB spot.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah and yeah, the QB spot.
- 35:38Speaker 1: You got a familiar name and I think 10 is.
- 35:41Speaker 1: What do you think about that?
- 35:42Speaker 1: Do you think that's properly rated or do you think that's underrated?
- 35:47Speaker 2: overrated.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Well, I mean, it's the top, it's you know, highest team in the ACC coming into number 10.
- 35:53Speaker 2: So we'll go ahead and just point that out off the bat.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Right, but it doesn't matter to me.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Like you got Clemson at 14.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't those?
- 36:01Speaker 2: I don't know, man, Like what it kind of makes me.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Is that number 10 like a 9-3 type of season, or is it well, you know what?
- 36:12Speaker 1: At the end of the year, that will be number 10.
- 36:15Speaker 2: You three type of season, or is it?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Well you know what?
- 36:17Speaker 2: At the end of the year, that will number 10 seed, because you didn't go undefeated, yeah you won the acc, but you're not.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You're 10 and 10.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well, that's what kind of record are we talking about here?
- 36:25Speaker 1: well, we'll find out.
- 36:26Speaker 1: That's going to be the next.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's almost.
- 36:29Speaker 1: You see the writings on the wall yeah but, um, we'll go to number 11, mizzou, and we'll just do a quick rundown of the rest see, for me I think I like a team like missouri and old miss man, like that.
- 36:44Speaker 2: There's not that much difference, right?
- 36:46Speaker 1: and I would say the same about clemson and florida state.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Right, like if you're looking at it objectively from the outside.
- 36:52Speaker 1: But these are coaches, so the coaches' poll is kind of it's a poll.
- 36:59Speaker 2: They got a poll for you.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And then LSU at number 12, new quarterback Lost to Heisman winner Brian Kelly.
- 37:08Speaker 1: What?
- 37:09Speaker 2: you got man and his offensive coordinator.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Don't forget that.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Let's see what Brian Kelly has, and it's a big year for him.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, prove it year for that guy.
- 37:19Speaker 1: It's a big year for him.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Number 13, man's mountain man himself Mountain man himself, al Willingham and the Utah Utes.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Just tough son of a gun he's going to have a 35-year-old quarterback.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Are they going to?
- 37:34Speaker 1: the Big 12 this year.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 1: All right, so they're in a new conference.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Cam Rising.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they still have the 42-year-old Cam Rising working on his fourth degree.
- 37:45Speaker 1: He was born in 81, a year before me, man, you got Clemson, as we mentioned at number 14.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Now Klubnik coming back.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Klubnik.
- 37:57Speaker 2: If he turns the corner and starts playing well, they're going to be a really dangerous team.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Their defense is still loaded.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Glad we're playing them here this season, not up there.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Then it's Rocky Top at 15.
- 38:16Speaker 2: That'll be a team.
- 38:17Speaker 2: It'll be interesting to see man.
- 38:19Speaker 1: They got talent.
- 38:20Speaker 2: See what that QB can do.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 38:22Speaker 1: So many questions.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Who's going to be these teams that asserts themselves, or is it just going to be?
- 38:30Speaker 1: And then the new after Tennessee, you have the new SEC member, oklahoma.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, great, we'll see Old Venables, old burnt vegetables, baby.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Coming off a good year for him.
- 38:43Speaker 1: What are they going to do at quarterback?
- 38:46Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 38:48Speaker 2: What are they going to do in the SEC?
- 38:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 38:51Speaker 2: They're going to be able to cut it.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Right, well, I think he's got the defense back up where he wants it.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And if he.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Defense is not the one you worry about, he's going to be a different type of team than it was with Lincoln Riley, and it took him the first year.
- 39:10Speaker 2: It was rough and Well, his team will have an emphasis on defense Right, which I think will play well moving into the SEC.
- 39:22Speaker 1: They're going to need that.
- 39:23Speaker 1: All right, who we got.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Who's next 17, you got Kansas State.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Kansas State.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Manhattan little apple.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yep, the Big 12.
- 39:35Speaker 2: They got a young hot shot quarterback.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Watch out for him this season, See what he can do.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Again a new guy.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they lost Colin.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Howard Colin Klein.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Ohio State, not Klein.
- 39:47Speaker 2: It was offensive coordinator.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Oh.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:50Speaker 2: This kid that's playing quarterback.
- 39:52Speaker 2: He was going to start either way.
- 39:54Speaker 2: This is a homegrown kid, avery Johnson.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:58Speaker 2: One of those highly rated Elite 11 kids, so they kind of just cleared the way for him.
- 40:04Speaker 1: And then you have the.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Cowboys the old pokes, and I would say the most inconsistent team Jekyll and Hyde.
- 40:15Speaker 1: This team Oklahoma State I mean can beat Oklahoma one week and then lose to.
- 40:24Speaker 2: South Alabama the next.
- 40:26Speaker 1: So who's going to show up?
- 40:27Speaker 1: Both of them are going to show up multiple times this year and we'll see what happens.
- 40:31Speaker 2: I think they got blown out by UCF too.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Right, yes, they did.
- 40:35Speaker 2: That's the one where he went golfing in Orlando.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Yes, that's right, that's right.
- 40:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Well, right after them, yep, and you know what?
- 40:44Speaker 2: This is pretty low.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and it looks like the coaches are going off.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Pro are going off prove it.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you know, they're saying mario.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Mario is uh, he's not a very popular guy.
- 40:58Speaker 2: This is the month.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Yeah, um, they will.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I'll just I'm gonna go ahead and say allegedly, uh, he's one of the more tamper happy program runners in the country.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Uh, miami's pretty much.
- 41:09Speaker 2: They'll reach out to anybody and everybody see who's open for business and that's rubbed some coaches the wrong way.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Not so many like high-profile programs, but just you know the lesser programs.
- 41:21Speaker 2: They still got votes but 19.
- 41:25Speaker 2: This is it for him.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this is his most.
- 41:28Speaker 1: They got some talent this year.
- 41:29Speaker 1: They went and got some guys.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They got new quarterback, new running back.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Premier quarterback, premier running back and I like the quarterback can play.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he can play, so can the running back.
- 41:42Speaker 2: They got guys along the defensive front.
- 41:44Speaker 2: There's no excuse besides coaching or mismanagement of your program for Miami to not be playing for the ACC.
- 41:54Speaker 1: In contrast, you were saying like oh, mcmurphy from the AP has them higher than us.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Right at eight At eight.
- 42:02Speaker 1: So this is a talent-loaded roster that's expected to win the ACC this year With a very, very light schedule, if you're a Miami fan.
- 42:13Speaker 2: it's time, Week one is kind of a white knuckler, because you're playing Florida.
- 42:20Speaker 1: And we'll talk to Justin.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he's had time to mull it over and I know he's going to be on Mario's ass this year.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Well, yeah, he's got to be man.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it won't just be the fans.
- 42:34Speaker 2: It's going to be.
- 42:35Speaker 2: You know they put up big-time money to go get guys that were asking you know, hey man, you know that's what this is.
- 42:39Speaker 2: You know, transfer portal, you're going and upgrading your roster and he did it, just like, you know, norvell and company did it the year before and it's time to prove it.
- 42:52Speaker 2: They didn't just go out there to go 10-2, or you know, they want to run the table.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Oh, I couldn't help myself.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Do you want this?
- 43:12Speaker 2: You avoid stuff like this.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Do you want this?
- 43:13Speaker 2: You avoid stuff like this.
- 43:13Speaker 2: The ball popped out.
- 43:15Speaker 1: You've got to read the clock.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I mean read the card.
- 43:17Speaker 2: I mean to me.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Georgia Tech has it with 26 seconds left.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I still the Bears.
- 43:23Speaker 1: After further review the ruling on the field stands.
- 43:27Speaker 1: This was the biggest boneheaded coaching move still.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I still will never forget this.
- 43:34Speaker 1: And then Haynes King and Georgia State Yellow Jackets Megan Payne.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Of course, assault at the point where the play still and they come back and tell you the play stands West Durham, on the call.
- 43:52Speaker 2: You know it's over.
- 43:54Speaker 2: You know you're going to lose the football game.
- 43:55Speaker 2: It was very clearly not a fumble.
- 43:58Speaker 2: I mean, it was down, but they're not going to overturn it because you know what you guys did the dumbest shit ever so.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Whatever, we're going to leave it and see what happens.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Yeah well, this is Right and I'm pissed.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And I'm coming into like I'm excited about, but that's Miami.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Fans are always they're ready, but the schedule is what's different Easy You're talking about.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Basically, your two in-state rivals are probably going to be the two hardest games.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Right, you got Florida and Miami.
- 44:28Speaker 1: You play one of them in the beginning of the year, and then you played Florida State at home, Right.
- 44:32Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 44:33Speaker 1: And it's personal Like this.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Is it Like win the state, win it now, or what?
- 44:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Or then you're it's my Right.
- 44:44Speaker 2: It's got to be make the playoff, or yeah, you?
- 44:46Speaker 1: can make the playoff, and I'm not.
- 44:48Speaker 1: They haven't even made the ACC championship once.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yeah Well, find a way to make the playoff.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Even if you don't make the ACC championship, you need to win it with this roster Right and, like you said, the money that they went out and got, the running back they got.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's a weapon, the guy from Oregon State.
- 45:10Speaker 2: If you believe the rumors, it's like $4 million, right there, just with your QB and your running back.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Right, you didn't go do that, just to you know, play in the Gator Bowl.
- 45:20Speaker 1: They got some weapons on the outside too, returning.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they brought some guys in.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I like George.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Sam Brown, kid from Houston, he left.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I think no George is there.
- 45:34Speaker 2: The guy that left is Kobe Young.
- 45:34Speaker 2: He's at.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Georgia.
- 45:36Speaker 2: No, they have weapons.
- 45:37Speaker 2: They on paper.
- 45:41Speaker 2: There's no reason that they shouldn't be able to be one of the top teams in the ACC playing in Charlotte.
- 45:47Speaker 2: That just increases the pressure.
- 45:50Speaker 1: It's funny that they're 19 in the coaches' poll and that probably has something to do with it.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Coaches are pissed at Mario.
- 45:58Speaker 1: He's rubbing, probably doing some stuff allegedly.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I would expect him to be higher than that in the AP.
- 46:04Speaker 1: All right.
- 46:05Speaker 1: So at 20, you got the Aggies.
- 46:11Speaker 2: The old Aggies.
- 46:12Speaker 1: With their new coach, their old D coordinator Right, which is still kind of, you know, a&m, so A&M.
- 46:19Speaker 2: We're going to retread Pay everybody.
- 46:23Speaker 1: We'll pay Jimbo, and then we'll just pay the D coordinator that we brought in.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Mike Elko.
- 46:30Speaker 2: We really liked him.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Mike Elko is a good coach.
- 46:33Speaker 2: He is a good coach and I think.
- 46:34Speaker 2: Really good defensive coach.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Right that, you know, that's.
- 46:41Speaker 1: What's he going to do on offense?
- 46:43Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 46:44Speaker 2: that's a big question.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Who's he going to play?
- 46:45Speaker 2: Who's he going?
- 46:46Speaker 1: to get.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Well, he's got one of the best offensive coordinators, one of the bright, young offensive coordinators in the game.
- 46:54Speaker 1: I think this is again a place that wants it.
- 46:58Speaker 1: They're going to go out.
- 47:01Speaker 2: It's not going to be because of lack of spending or resources.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Again, though, they're not with that schedule.
- 47:10Speaker 1: This is another team like an Ole Miss that if they can put up a 10-2.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Well yeah, week one that two losses.
- 47:18Speaker 1: You can't go over that.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Like we're talking about when we're talking about Notre Dame.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Week one they come out there and they beat Notre Dame.
- 47:23Speaker 1: That's big.
- 47:24Speaker 2: You're going to see a huge jump from A&M and they're going to be right there in the mix because they play teams in the SEC that are ranked highly.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Well, these are teams that you, you know.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Take it.
- 47:35Speaker 1: You got LSU A&M.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Ole Miss.
- 47:38Speaker 1: You know Ole Miss is getting the hype before the season.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 47:42Speaker 2: They're the one that's getting all the love, but there's probably a coin flip between four or five teams there.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Right, I mean the SEC.
- 47:50Speaker 2: West, you got Georgia and the rest, I mean the SEC.
- 47:54Speaker 1: well, yeah, george, a SC.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Well, I mean at, yeah see Alabama, everybody like Georgia and everybody else in terms of that conference, until proven otherwise, and that I mean that includes Alabama.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Great, they went to the playoff, big deal yeah, all right.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Who's next?
- 48:14Speaker 2: what are we on 21 arizona?
- 48:17Speaker 2: I don't even like they got a new coach.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Good luck with that well in the big 12 now yeah, and then the sec, for you know's getting rid of what the ACC got rid of and they're going to the top two teams.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's probably a good thing.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so no more East and West.
- 48:43Speaker 2: No more East West Divisions are stupid anyway in college football, it's just.
- 48:46Speaker 2: But you got NC State coming in at number 22.
- 48:52Speaker 1: All right, dave Dorn Wolf right, dave Dorn, wolfpack, dave Dorn, this dangerous team.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's got an old Grayson Again.
- 48:57Speaker 2: We're not playing him this year.
- 48:59Speaker 2: Grayson McCall, the quarterback there.
- 49:01Speaker 2: He's just always picking up a transfer every season.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Come play QB, you know what?
- 49:07Speaker 2: It probably seems like a good spot for them, I don't know.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Probably seems like a good spot for them, I don't know.
- 49:13Speaker 1: You know he's been able to consistently be a solid program for the conference.
- 49:18Speaker 2: They might be a sneaky team.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:20Speaker 2: You know we don't play them this year.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I don't know if they play Miami either?
- 49:27Speaker 1: Yeah, they have a favorable schedule.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 49:30Speaker 1: They have Clemson.
- 49:34Speaker 2: But they've played.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Clemson?
- 49:36Speaker 1: Well, they do, and so that's another team.
- 49:39Speaker 2: They lose some guys.
- 49:40Speaker 2: You know they lost their big linebacker to the NFL.
- 49:45Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 49:45Speaker 1: All right, so 23.
- 49:46Speaker 1: To round out, we'll have 23 USC Lincoln Riley.
- 49:50Speaker 1: What's he going to do?
- 49:51Speaker 1: Is he going to play any defense?
- 49:52Speaker 1: Tell you what dude they play like they do in the new game Ha Balling.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that game.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Colorado should be in the top ten if that game.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Six foot four, 210 pound Travis Hunter.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you talking about, you're?
- 50:07Speaker 1: like 250.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Yeah, 250.
- 50:10Speaker 1: But you run about 4'2".
- 50:11Speaker 1: He looks huge in that game.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Got to be man with all them dreads that he's carrying All right so 24, the Jayhawks man, Kansas Jayhawks in football how about that?
- 50:21Speaker 1: I guess, I know you like the coach.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I do, man, I do.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I think he's a really good coach.
- 50:25Speaker 2: I don't I mean, I don't really know much about their team going into this season.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I know they lost a couple guys to the transfer portal, but again, he's a solid coach.
- 50:37Speaker 2: He usually has a team that's capable of six to eight wins, so why not throw him in there?
- 50:43Speaker 2: You got Iowa coming in.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Lance Leopold, yeah, iowa.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Lance Leopold.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's your boy at Kansas, and then my Hawkeyes, we'll see you know a special team defense.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Right, you know their defense is going to be amazing.
- 51:00Speaker 1: What do they got offensively?
- 51:02Speaker 1: They're not going to do anything.
- 51:03Speaker 1: No, they're not.
- 51:04Speaker 1: They're going to win by eight games.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Win by eight games.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Seven or eight games have the worst offense in the country.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Well, there you go, folks.
- 51:09Speaker 1: You have the worst offense in the country.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Well, there you go, folks.
- 51:12Speaker 1: There's the preseason coaches poll.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Ten.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Number ten.
- 51:22Speaker 1: We had to go.
- 51:25Speaker 1: We got to get on out of here.
- 51:26Speaker 1: All right, sir, but we got much more to come, as we're going to dive into the wide receiver position next time, and we still got all kinds of Olympics to get into.
- 51:41Speaker 1: It's just going crazy, man.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Steeplechase man.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Come on, that's crazy man.
- 51:46Speaker 2: I mean just running over and training for that.
- 51:48Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much just got to do what Jungle runs.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Yeah, shit like that.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I mean big events.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I love the obscure events.
- 51:56Speaker 1: The summer games are loaded.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I mean it's hard to watch them all.
- 52:00Speaker 1: I still have the 100 meter yeah the dat.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Oh my god, the 100 meter race to the eye.
- 52:07Speaker 1: The broadcaster totally blew it.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I mean to the naked eye, both guys calling it for the Jamaican guy award.
- 52:15Speaker 2: He blows it to the point where it's going to be historic and it's like whatever man.
- 52:19Speaker 2: It was so close that the guy actually thought Jamaica won.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Right, it's a photo finish.
- 52:25Speaker 1: We'll get into our favorite events and most memorable moments from the 2024 games in Paris.
- 52:38Speaker 1: But it's hurricane season and it's, yeah, sheffield man, goodness gracious, I mean, I was playing.
- 52:50Speaker 1: I actually got a chance to play golf the other day, sunday, and I looked at before the storm and I looked at the score.
- 52:57Speaker 1: John Maran was winning by four shots with like eight holes to play and all of a sudden Scheffler 30 is the last four holes course record 62 to win gold, win the gold.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Tommy Fleetwood wins the silver and Hideki Matsuyama the bronze and I love that.
- 53:22Speaker 1: It means so much to him.
- 53:26Speaker 1: I mean Shepard kind of got emotional in the medal stand.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I want this event to turn into something that all golfers covet.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I think it's, you know, similar to the Ryder cup.
- 53:37Speaker 1: You know you put the passion into your country, so now you can individualize that for your nation, representing yourself, you kind of win for your country.
- 53:46Speaker 1: I think golf, really it could be one of the main events in the sport moving forward.
- 53:51Speaker 1: But we got a lot of get.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we move forward and we'll do that with receivers on the next time we talk to you right here on the north florida sports network.
