- Nelson AHT: You ready? Producer Nick: I am ready. Nelson AHT: Hey, welcome in Average Home Theater. I'm Nelson. Producer Nick: Hey, what's up? Producer Nick. Nelson AHT: And we are back for spooky Producer Nick: Me. Nelson AHT: episode number two, I guess we can say. Ooh. Okay, that's enough of that. I don't want to Producer Nick: Sorry. I Nelson AHT: sound like Jamie Ray. Producer Nick: didn't mean to didn't mean to scare anyone out there. This is also for the kids. Nelson AHT: Yeah. Okay, so what we decided to do on this this go round was he picked a movie, I picked a movie, we didn't tell each other what we were watching, and Producer Nick: Right. Nelson AHT: we're gonna talk about Producer Nick: Yeah. And it's been to like I haven't been watching a whole lot of stuff. Things have been busy and I've actually been been gaming a lot more lately. So when I'm not toting junior to football or back and forth to school or work or whatever, I've been kinda doing that. So it's been a little while. It had been a little while since I had watched anything actually. I narrowed my choices down to two. one was a classic that I had not seen and the other one was a 2026 version of a classic, I guess, that I had not seen. And I ended up going with the newer movie. figured that would be more interesting to everyone just because maybe not as many people have seen it. But it actually is ironic because it unexpectedly parallels the the classic movie that I was considering, which I'll get into I guess a little bit later. So anyway, yeah. I gave some background there, some exposition. Nelson AHT: Okay. Well, I made my decision based I made my decision based on it just came out on 4K and I just got a copy. And I have not seen this movie in all the way through in decades, probably since I had it on VHS went which it went by the wayside when we were doing a great purge years ago and I stupidly got rid of all my VHS tapes under the pressure of my significant other. Producer Nick: Whew. Man, you might not be able to you might not be able to talk crap anymore about our other friend Nelson AHT: So now I wish I had all those tapes back. So Producer Nick: who threw away a buttload of social media. No, it's still he's no, he's he's still worse. Nelson AHT: Yeah, but I mean he threw away Blu-rays and steelbooks. This was VHS tapes, you know. So anyway, so it's this Nineteen Ninety Four's Interview with the Vampire. Producer Nick: okay. Okay. Yeah, I have seen that. Nelson AHT: Okay. I have not seen this movie since I had on VHS. Producer Nick: I've seen it several times, but it's been it's been a long time. And I rem it's one of those where I watched it as a a kid, I guess, and probably didn't truly appreciate it when I watched it. And it's been so long. I I it's I've been meaning to rewatch it, just haven't haven't gotten around to it. That's a good pick. Nelson AHT: Yeah. It it came out in nineteen ninety-four. it's directed by Neil Jordan and I didn't know who that was really. And when I looked him up, he wrote and directed that movie High Spirits, which I really like a lot. And Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: but also that movie The Crying Game, you remember that? Like that was a big old deal, which I've never seen, but he wrote and directed it. Producer Nick: I know I know all there is to know about the crying game. Nelson AHT: And the references in Ace Ventura. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: But anyway, so he he directed this. Anne Rice, of course, wrote the novel, but she wrote the screenplay as well on this. So that was kind of cool. Which is she's from New Orleans, yeah. Well, she was. Producer Nick: Okay. Isn't she f is she from around here? Like the New Orleans area? Okay, I thought so. Nelson AHT: She she passed away. yeah, it so I hadn't watched it in a while, and I was like you, it came out when we were 14 years old. And Producer Nick: Mm-hmm. Nelson AHT: I'm guessing we watched it and just didn't really appreciate it because look, while I think it's a very good movie, it's not like a real exciting movie. You know what I'm saying? And it's Producer Nick: Low slow. Nelson AHT: a very different take on vampires. Instead of instead of them being like monsters and Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: you're watching them constantly attack people, it's more a about Producer Nick: How they lived. Nelson AHT: how Yeah, and how it was because I couldn't remember I I was like, why did Tom Cruise change Brad Pitt? Like, why did he do it? And it was just because he was lonely. Producer Nick: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Nelson AHT: he he just wanted a companion. And when he saw Brad Pitt, he liked him. His name is Louie. And and Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: he just decided to to change him as like just a companion. Producer Nick: And isn't that kind of why they changed Kirsten Dunst? Because they wanted a a daughter, quote unquote. Nelson AHT: Right, because well Brad Pitt was Louie was having such a hard time with it. Remember, he was eating rats and and all Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: and so Lestat, who's played by Tom Cruise, decides, okay, well, maybe we need a child, and that'll make you feel better. Like kind of being a parent will maybe somehow complete him since he's so miserable. So he actually Producer Nick: Yeah. And and she took to it. Nelson AHT: finds her. Well, so Brad Louie finds her, her parents had died, and he uncontrollably bites her. You know, like he just Producer Nick: Uh-huh. Nelson AHT: cause he's constantly fighting the urge to feed, and Producer Nick: Right. Nelson AHT: she hugs him and he just sees her neck and he bites her. And then instead of her dying, Lestat is like, Okay, well, we'll change her and she can be ours. That that's how that happened. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: she didn't take to it at first. I mean, she she I say she didn't take to it, she did. She was Producer Nick: She was kinda Nelson AHT: would feed or whatever. She she was all about it. But man. Producer Nick: Didn't she have a line where she she bit someone and wipes some blood and she said something like, I want some more or something like that? Am I thinking of the same? Okay. Okay. Okay. Nelson AHT: Yes, yes. The first time, I think. Yeah. But she the older well, I say the older, she didn't she doesn't really age, but like thirty years later, she's, you know, starting to figure out, wait a minute, like what's really going on? And I guess it it's it's weird how almost she's growing up, but she's not. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: And I guess it's just because it's been so long that she's figuring things out. They wait, I'm not a I shouldn't be a child anymore type thing. And so then they right. Producer Nick: Yeah, she's growing up mentally, but not not physically. Nelson AHT: And so they when Brad Pitt tells her, you know, she gets mad. And so it it's it's a very neat dynamic with those two and her. man, Tom Cruise killed it in this role though, bruh. Like I can tell you, if if it wouldn't have been for him, Producer Nick: Yeah. As he typically does. Nelson AHT: I don't I don't know if I'd even like the movie. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: And not that it was bad, it's just this movie relies on the atmosphere and the performances more than what's actually going on. Cause it actually gets a little long in the tooth. It Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: it didn't need to be two hours long. it could have been like an hour and forty minutes and it would have been perfect. But the Antonio Banderas character, like he was you think you're gonna learn a lot about this guy. He's good, but It's like very little. I don't know if maybe they edited a bunch of stuff out that was there. Cause his character seems so incomplete. It's like, Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: okay, so he's like the oldest vampire on earth, but yet he has no control over the other vampires who go after Kirsten Dunstan and and the woman because she had killed Lestat, and you're not so a vampire's not supposed to kill another vampire. And Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: I don't know, it it was just a little weird. To me? Do you remember all Producer Nick: And I Nelson AHT: of that? Producer Nick: I don't remember I remember Antonio Banderas being in the movie, but I don't remember his character. I don't remember that aspect of the story. I I remember liking the thing that I liked most about the movie was the showing the different eras and like the passing of time. Nelson AHT: Yeah, yeah. Producer Nick: And it ends like they're in the the age of like vehicles and and and stuff like more more modern. and Nelson AHT: What ends in present day? Yeah. Producer Nick: I remember thinking that was pretty like 'cause Christian Slater was a reporter. He was interviewing him or Interview with the vampire. Nelson AHT: So basically Louie decided he wanted to tell the story. So he hires Christian Slater's character, which I don't remember his name, but he he hires him. Producer Nick: Doesn't he does he bite him at the end? Nelson AHT: No Producer Nick: He doesn't okay. Nelson AHT: So he hires him to tell his story, and Christian Slater's like, Well, why are you telling me? Like, once he realizes he's telling the truth, Producer Nick: Right. Nelson AHT: he's like, Why are you telling me all of this? Why don't you just go out and say it? And he's like, Because nobody's gonna believe me, but they'll they might believe you, type of thing. So Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: it's a very neat concept. Like, I I I think, you know, obviously she's a this great novelist or whatever, but I don't know, it just It's good, but it's not. It's a very strange movie to me. Like I I Producer Nick: Maybe Nelson AHT: was fascinated watching it, watching the production and the cinematography and Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: all of that stuff was great. The sets you know, 1791 New Orleans looked like it could have been 1791 New Orleans and all like everything about it with the makeup was Stan Winston, which is why it looked so good. So it so much of the movie is great, but It just doesn't quite get there. You know, Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: it kind of a it's kind of like this the whole time, you know. Producer Nick: So you think maybe s story wise it didn't translate to to the screen as well? Nelson AHT: Maybe so. I I don't know. I tried to read the novel years ago and I remember getting probably 40% through it, and it was so close to the movie. I felt like I was just watching the movie. So but it makes sense because she wrote the screenplay. So I just stopped reading it. I was like, well, whatever. You know. Producer Nick: Yeah. I know what happens. Nelson AHT: But man, Kirsten Dunce was awesome. She was great. Producer Nick: And I was was that her was that her first role or her first major role? Yeah. Nelson AHT: Think it was. Think it she was eleven years old. Producer Nick: That's crazy. That's crazy. Like we're we're older than she is. That's nuts. Nelson AHT: Yeah. But man, everybody was great. Tom Cruise was just frickin' amazing. I there's no doubt, I'm telling you, if it wasn't Producer Nick: As as he usually is, Nelson AHT: for him, yeah, if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't really like the movie that much. But I just enjoyed watching him on screen so much that it you know. So Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: yeah, I mean I if I have to give this a score, I'll give it a seven. I think it's a good seven out of ten. Producer Nick: How's it for a Ninety Four movie? How's the the transfer, the four K and the audio and the video? Nelson AHT: So it looks good. it's just the movie's so dark that Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: if you okay, like my system in here, I call it average home theater, right? Because I think this is kind of average. And my projector was a very good projector seven, eight years ago, but the technology is getting kind of old now. So the blacks and everything on a real dark Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: movie like this, i i it doesn't really. look all that good. So I would have to watch it on like a TV, like your TV, to see Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: exactly how good it really looks. But like resolution wise and all of that, it looked great. And the few the couple little times you see daytime looked fine. so there was no no issues, but the movie's so dark everything takes place at night. It's kind of hard to see. The audio is in Dolby Atmos and I thought it sounded good, but I didn't really notice any specific overhead effects. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: But it sounded good. Yeah. But it's definitely Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: worth. I think it was only like $24 on Amazon. I mean, so if you don't have it, Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: it's definitely worth picking up. I didn't have it, so that's why Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: I got it. Producer Nick: No, no, I've never I've never owned it. VHS, D V D, Blu ray, I've never owned it. I've seen it. I think I might have rented it before and that's how I had seen it originally. back when they had places where you can go and give someone money and they would give you a movie and you could watch it and then you'd bring it back to And you'd Nelson AHT: Go bring it back. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Producer Nick: bring it back to and you had to rewind it 'cause it was on the VHS. Nelson AHT: Or you'd get what would they do? Would they like give you a penalty or something if you didn't rewind or like another dollar or something? Producer Nick: Yeah, they'd charge you or whatever 'cause then they 'cause then they had to rewind it, which I mean it's it is common courtesy, I understand, but what were they losing? Were they losing time? How long did it take for them to 'cause they had those little a couple of minutes? Yeah. Nelson AHT: It would probably take about what, a minute to rewind it on those rewinders. Producer Nick: They had those little those little auto machine auto rewinder things. Nelson AHT: But I would imagine they'd have to replace those every so often, you know. Producer Nick: Yeah. But I mean they would charge I just remember Kenny's video in Youngsville. It was like Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: ten dollars to to rent a movie and you had to give them like your social security number and all kind of crap. Like it was it was nuts. So we would drive another couple of minutes and go to instant replay on the corner of of Pinhook in the Youngsville Highway and they had the popcorn machine. So like on Fridays and Nelson AHT: Yeah. Phew. I haven't heard instant replay in a while. Producer Nick: on Fridays you they they give you a a box of popcorn for every like two movies you rented or something like that. Nelson AHT: one last thing before we move on from this. It's it's interesting 'cause I I don't know if you'd even call it a horror movie. I 'cause I don't think it really is. Producer Nick: I mean, his monsters and blood, but story wise, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Nelson AHT: Yeah, but it's just it's not scary, you know, at all. so yeah, so I don't even know if you'd call it a horror movie, but it's definitely a good gothic piece, you know, and it's it's you know very good Producer Nick: It it's o it Nelson AHT: for Halloween. Producer Nick: it's appropriate for the season, that's right. All right, cool. Well that makes me it makes Nelson AHT: So what'd you watch? Producer Nick: me want to watch it again. I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to check it out at least see if it's streaming on something. 'cause I think I feel like I'd or I could borrow it, yeah. Nelson AHT: Well you can borrow it. I mean it is a physical discs. Like, you know, remember when PlayStation said, how do you let your friends borrow your games? And he just handed them the disc. But then now they don't do that anymore because you don't own Producer Nick: Yeah. It's it's easy. Nelson AHT: anything. Producer Nick: Yeah. Yeah, that's that's upsetting. Anywho, so I watched so my my two choices were I'm probably about to be shamed, but I have never seen the Exorcist. So I was going to either I know, I know. I'm gonna I'm gonna take care of it before the end of the week. I'm gonna take care of that. Maybe tonight, maybe tonight. Nelson AHT: Mm. Producer Nick: Because I'm playing well listen, I'm playing through the new Silent Hill game. Silent Hill Townfall. So I'm staying. I Nelson AHT: I know, but this is not a video game review channel. Producer Nick: know, I know, I'm just saying, I'm staying in the realm, just a different medium. so anyway, it was either going to be The Exorcist or I came across scrolling through one of my streaming services, Lee Cronin's the Mummy. So I ended up watching Nelson AHT: Okay. Producer Nick: Lee Cronin's the Mummy. Which is very ironical because the way this movie the the take they did on it on the mummy story and the way the movie plans pans out is this there's a character that's kind of possessed by the spirit of a mummy, which is kind of what happens in the Exorcist and they're trying to free her or whatever. So and I didn't I didn't know that going in. I didn't know anything about this movie going in, only that it had it had gotten kind of lukewarm reviews. but I have not seen a mummy movie since the mummy and that franchise. I didn't watch the the Tom Cruise one. I didn't I've never seen like the original black and white one or whatever. So my only really exposure to mummy movies was the mummy franchise with Brendan Frazier. And there was an episode of the Three Stooges once where there was there were some mummies. So that's what I ended up watching. And I'm gonna say off the top of the off the top, are are are we doing are we doing spoilers? Because this is fairly new. Nelson AHT: No, 'cause I haven't seen it and I kinda wanna watch it. So Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: I mean look, mild spoil is fine. I mean, I'm not that whatever, but you know, don't give everything away. Producer Nick: Mild. Yeah. S so let me I'll I'll say off the top that I was not expecting a whole lot going into this. Having watched it, I liked it. I didn't love it. It didn't blow me away, but I liked it and I would watch it again. Like if someone would want to sit down and watch it for the first time, I would watch Nelson AHT: Right. Producer Nick: it with them. some of the issues. So first off You're you're the technical guy. The sound was really, really good. lots of like swirling effects and disembodied voices coming out of the rear speakers and and panning from side to side and all that stuff. That stuff was really great. So I'd be interested to know what it would sound like in the average home theater because that was that was awesome. it it Nelson AHT: And now it's on HBO Max. Producer Nick: Yes, it was on Max. HBO Max. Visually it looked great. the story was it borrowed from The Exorcist, but it was a fresh take on the mummy story. some of the writing was a little suspect, some of the acting was a little suspect. The only person in this movie that I've ever seen in anything is the guy from he was the boyfriend that ended up if i I don't wanna say anything if people haven't seen Midsummer, the boyfriend, Florence Pugh's boyfriend, Jack Jack Jack Raynor. He kind Nelson AHT: okay. Right. The tall blonde guy that Yeah. Producer Nick: of stole the thesis and all this other stuff, stole the other guy's idea. he's the only guy in it that I that I've recognized in anything. He was good, but he did too much of the wide eyed staring into the camera. He did a little Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: bit too much of that. But the story, the basic story is Their their daughter i the is he's he's living in Egypt. He's a T V correspondent. He's living in Egypt with his wife, his son, and his daughter, and the wife is pregnant, and the daughter gets abducted. and it goes from there. She's she's Nelson AHT: Yeah, I've heard about all this, yeah. Producer Nick: missing for a long time, and then miraculously, eight years later, she's found, but she's in a bad way. And the rest of the movie is them trying to figure out like what happened. Like there's a There's a detective that's involved. when she first went missing, there's a detective in Egypt that had just gotten promoted, like on the spot when this case came up, had gotten promoted and they kind of suspected that the parents did it and the guy, you know, the the father got really upset, whatever. Well, fast forward eight years, this this detective, she's now like a full fledged detective, and hey, we found your daughter. And they they had moved back to the States. They're living in New Mexico at the time and the the lady they have an eight year old about an eight year old daughter now and the son's a t a teenager, middle teenager. so they've kinda moved on but have never stopped looking for never never stopped the hope and her room like they set up a room for like she's gonna come home one day, she's gonna have her room in the house and all this other stuff. And like the mom, the ladies the wife's mom is living with She kinda takes care of the house and does the cooking and all that stuff. It's It's a whole setup. But they they find the girl and she's she's in a way and that's the basic premise of the rest of the movie is they're trying to figure out like what's going on with her. She had aged. Yes, she's she's aged Nelson AHT: So has she aged in in in the eight years? Okay. Producer Nick: physically, but she's kind of kind of trapped in her own body. and then they kind of slowly start to unravel. unravel. They kind of slowly start to unravel Nelson AHT: Pardon the pun. Producer Nick: what happened with her and things happen and there's some like the the visual effects and stuff like that are are pretty cool. again the the audio is is great. I liked it. there there were a couple of subplots that they just kind of threw in. I mean I can I can kind of I can talk about this. This is not a major spoiler. She's gone for eight years, right? And then they find her. And then things start to go south. And then all of a sudden the subplot comes in of well, like the mom blames the dad. And then the dad secretly had blamed the mom for the Nelson AHT: okay. So they start having issues. Producer Nick: girl's disappearance. And but that's like they threw that in there. It's like 10 seconds of the movie. It was never alluded to or mentioned before. and was never really mentioned after. It was like a ten minute conversation where they were arguing and they have this big blow up and then it's doesn't come up again. Hadn't come up before. So that felt a little bit out of place. Like they I kinda wonder if it was like maybe a re ride and they I I think they could have taken that out. It didn't add anything. Nelson AHT: Yeah, it's probably there was probably more to it that they cut out, but for some reason they couldn't cut that Producer Nick: Yeah. Yeah, there was gonna be some some Nelson AHT: part out. Yeah. Producer Nick: yeah, there was gonna be some conflict and they're gonna have that subplot, but they just kind of abandoned it. so the little girl, there were there are two child actors in the movie. The the little girl went before she's abducted, eight years prior, and then she was she was awesome and it w it was it was funny. There was humor in the movie, but it wasn't misplaced. It wasn't every ten seconds and it wasn't misplaced. Nelson AHT: Mm-hmm. Producer Nick: and then there's some some stuff that happens later on with the the newborn that's eight at in the present day. She was she was really, really good. And there's some stuff that happens later on with her where she's she's she it's funny, but it's funny because it's things that an eight year old girl shouldn't be doing and saying, Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: kind of thing. And then the girl that played the the older version of the girl that was abducted. she was she was awesome. Like when when she gets kind of taken over and the the movements and the face and some of it some of it was CGI. Some of it her face is all like distorted and contorted and some of that I think was makeup and and practical effects. Some of it had to be CGI when she's like moving around and doing stuff, I think. But the the actress was really, really, really good. so that was that was impressive. Nelson AHT: And I'm pretty sure Lee Cronin, the guy who did it, he directed Evil Dead Rise. And Producer Nick: Correct, yes. Nelson AHT: so a lot of people are saying that, this is just the Evil Dead Mummy. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: I don't know. I'll have to watch because I've seen Evil Dead Rise, so I'd have to watch it and see. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: But apparently a lot of people didn't like the fact that he took a mummy movie and made it very similar to an Evil Dead movie. Producer Nick: Yeah. And I yeah, Nelson AHT: So I don't know, I haven't seen it, but Producer Nick: I haven't and I haven't seen the Evil Dead, so and I you know, looking at a couple of reviews, a lot of that is what they were saying. Not not directly comparing it to the Evil Dead, but a lot of it was this is a little derivative, not very original. It's original Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: what they did with the mummy, but they kinda made it into some things that had already been done before. Nelson AHT: Yeah, instead of it being an actual mummy, it was like the spirit of a mummy or whatever. Yeah. Producer Nick: Right. And then some other things happen and it's like, well, is the maybe the bad guy really isn't the bad guy, but then something happens at the end and I I I don't know. It wasn't like I said, it wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst. I enjo I enjoyed it. it it did it did kinda take a little while to get going story wise, I found. at the beginning it kinda drug on a little bit. Like the l a couple of things they could have maybe done a little bit faster. it felt a little long. It's it's a little over two hours. It's like two hours and fifteen minutes, maybe, I think, or maybe two hours, ten minutes. Nelson AHT: Why are people making all these long movies? Producer Nick: It it was it was long. There was a couple of times where I checked to see how long it had left in it. now I will say it was it was gross. there are some Nelson AHT: yeah yeah. Producer Nick: things that happened that are gross and that ties in to the sound. like the wet like the the the peeling of wet things off of other wet things Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: and the the the moist sound, the macaroni, the macaroni sound, you know what I'm talking about? Stirring pot of macaroni. Nelson AHT: Moist Yeah. Gross. Yeah. Producer Nick: There's a lot of that. But I mean it was look, it was effective. Nelson AHT: Very juicy sounding. Producer Nick: There there was there was a couple of times I was like like kinda had to look at it a little bit like this. there's a scene involving some Nelson AHT: And that's how Evil Dead movies are. Producer Nick: yeah there's a scene involving toenails that That'll that'll grab your it'll grab your attention. Nelson AHT: it's kinda like on remember on Brightburn, the glass in that lady's eye and she's like Producer Nick: yeah. A little bit a little bit like that. Like you gotta watch it, but you gotta kinda watch it with an eye closed. Nelson AHT: Yeah, you're like Producer Nick: Makes it 'cause that makes it better. Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: so yeah, let's see. I I took I did take a couple of notes. actually actually think I think I covered all my notes in just natural conversation. Nelson AHT: About to say, sounds like you covered a lot. Producer Nick: Yeah, it was it was good. I I recommend it. As far as a rating All things considered, I mean, I wouldn't give it below a seven. I I enjoyed it. It's not something that I'll purchase, but I will watch it again, as I said. Nelson AHT: Mm-hmm. Producer Nick: and y I might it's one of those where I might watch it again and really like now that I know what's going on, I might watch it again and and really, really like it. there was another Nelson AHT: Right. Producer Nick: thing that kind of took me out of it. People a character tended to get from one place on one side of the planet to another place on another side of the planet very, very quickly. Yeah. That was Nelson AHT: I know that's a pet peeve of yours. That's a pet peeve of yours. Producer Nick: that that was like, well hold on. She was just in the now she's at the with the what? So that that I mean, little things like that, little complaints, but it went I mean it's a well done movie. I think I think you'll like it. It's not a waste of time. I'm I'm Nelson AHT: Yeah. Producer Nick: glad I I'm glad I chose it and I'm glad I sat down and watched it. Now I need to watch the Exorcist. Nelson AHT: Well, I've been very interested. Like whenever it when the trailer first dropped and found out that Lee Cronin was doing a mummy movie, I was very intrigued. But a lot of my trusted reviewers were nobody really dogged it, but they were kind of like you. They were like, I mean it's not that it's bad, but it's like, is it a good mummy movie? And so that I think that's the peop most people's problem with it is that it's called the Mummy. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: They could have maybe called it something else, you know. Producer Nick: Yeah. And it now look, it is a horror movie. it's not it ain't like an action comedy or whatever. It's a it's a horror movie. but yeah, I I I get that. I get that criticism of it. Nelson AHT: Mm-hmm. And look, I don't like the original mummy movie. The original mummy from whatever with Boris Carl. Like, I did not like it. Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: because I remember I I got all those classics and I started Producer Nick: Mm-hmm. Nelson AHT: watching them. And that was actually the one I liked the least. Producer Nick: really? Nelson AHT: yeah, I like it. He's only a mummy for like when they discover him. Then he takes on human form and he's talking like you and I are, and then like there's never a mummy again. It it's so weird. Like Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: I don't know why that movie's held in such high regard, but maybe some sequels 'cause there's sequels to it. But the original mummy movie is yeah. so yeah, I I don't mind it being a horror movie. just a lot of people are saying that it's like, maybe it shouldn't be called the mummy, 'cause you tend to think of the universal mummy, you know. Producer Nick: Yeah. Well, I mean, it was I I guess I kinda get that criticism. It's definitely a different take. I would be more concerned about it being a a mishmash of other 'cause I mean there's she was a mummy. Like it it was the mummy. It's just a different a different take. It's not your your typical as you said, it's not just it's not your typical when you think about a mummy walking around slow motion with the arms out, wrapped in Nelson AHT: Mm-hmm. Producer Nick: It wasn't it wasn't like that at all. Nelson AHT: I don't know if Brendan Fraser's The Mummy will ever be topped. Like I just don't know if anybody's ever going to be able to make a mummy movie better than that. That's just such a good movie. Producer Nick: Such a such a good movie. Yeah. Yeah. I agree. That's time to watch that one again too. Nelson AHT: Yep. Well, I bought I got a couple of new steel books. Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: this one you you we reviewed it. It was our spooky season number one. But as Producer Nick: All right. Nelson AHT: you recall, I only had the digital copy. Producer Nick: Mm-hmm. Nelson AHT: So I went ahead and got the four K Steelbook. It's not the greatest looking steel book, but it's not bad. But I I just wanted a physical copy. I got it f Producer Nick: No, I like it. I like the the minimalist design. Nelson AHT: yeah, the minimalistic And then this next one I really like. The Steelbook. I haven't watched this in a while, but I only had the digital copy as well. Slither with Nathan Filion. What? You've never seen Slither? Dude, Producer Nick: Slyther, I've never seen that. Okay. I've never seen Slither. No Nelson AHT: okay, we're gonna watch this here. This Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: is a good, fun, ridiculous, gross horror mover with Nath Nathan Fillion. Producer Nick: I like I like me Nathan Phillian, man. I'll never Nelson AHT: It's it's James Gunn, the guy who did Brightburn and all of that stuff. He did he did this. So it's it's really good. Producer Nick: I'll never forgive the cancellation of Firefly. Nelson AHT: and this this guy right here, you know who that is? That's Producer Nick: That's Slither. Nelson AHT: my god. I the actor is Producer Nick: We're gonna have to look it up. Nelson AHT: He was Merle Dixon, Daryl Dixon's brother. He's in every movie. He's the blue guy in Guardians of the Galaxy. Producer Nick: hold on. Hold on. Don't tell me. I just saw s Michael Rooker. I just saw something Nelson AHT: Michael Rooker. Rooker. Michael Rooker. Yeah. Producer Nick: with him in it. I watched Mall Rats for the first time ever, and Michael Rooker was in Mall Rats. Yeah, I've never s had never seen Mall Nelson AHT: really? Okay. Well that's this is Michael Rooker right here. Producer Nick: Rats. Shout out to to Danette for letting me borrow Mall Rats, her her divided copy of Mall Rats. Nelson AHT: Yeah, I've never seen mall rats. Never seen that. Producer Nick: I look, I'm not a huge Kevin Smith guy. I like I like Dogma. and there was maybe another one that I liked, but I'm not a I'm not a huge Kevin Smith guy, so it was just it was just okay. but we did get to meet Nelson AHT: the Jay and Silent Bob strike back is hilarious. Producer Nick: Yeah, I saw that one. I remember th thinking that was okay. But yeah, I figured I I had been told that it had come up in conversation that I had never seen it, so I was told that I needed to watch it. Nelson AHT: But yeah, we're gonna watch Slither. That's a great horror comedy. Like, and you know, that's I think that's your favorite genre of horror is horror comedy. you Producer Nick: Yeah. I didn't even realize it was a horror comedy. Nelson AHT: Yeah, you're gonna you're gonna like this. It's it's it's like a sci fi horror comedy. It's it's really good. Producer Nick: Well h how much was that, Elizabeth Banks is in it. How how much was this Slither Nelson AHT: Well, I got these two on it was the Scream Factory two for fifty. So they were twenty five each. Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: but I think that sale ended. So Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: you'll just have to keep an eye out. But it was on GRUV G R U V, which is where you get Scream Factory from now. They don't have their own website Producer Nick: Okay. Nelson AHT: anymore. They sell on Groove. now sometimes you can get this stuff on Amazon. so maybe, but they were having their sale, so I Producer Nick: Yeah, I'm looking to see if I if they have it right now. yeah, I haven't man, I I went on a tear a month or so back, a couple months ago, I went on a tear where I was just buying Nelson AHT: Yeah, you're buying stuff every day. Producer Nick: things like crazy and watching like three or four movies a day sometimes, like on a Saturday or a Sunday. And now yeah, they do have that they have that steelbook on Amazon for thirty five dollars. Nelson AHT: yeah. you and I are gonna watch Slither. Producer Nick: Sounds good. Yeah, I'm interested. I didn't realize I didn't realize it was a it was a horror comedy. I certainly didn't realize Nathan Fillion was in it. What what year is that? Nelson AHT: And Michael Rooker, what's her name? yeah, Elizabeth Banks. Producer Nick: Elizabeth Banks. I see she was in it. Nelson AHT: which is why she's in Brightburn because she was in this with James Gunn as well. there's there's quite a few people in this. Producer Nick: Man, I like Brightburn a lot. Two thousand six. Okay. Yeah, I've heard of it, just never Nelson AHT: The guy who played the the mayor. You'll see whenever we get to him, the mayor in this is he's great. He's one of those character actors that's in like everything, but you never know his name, you know? Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: So okay. That'll do it for spooky Producer Nick: Cool. Well that was a lot of fun. Nelson AHT: season episode number two. So Producer Nick: I think Nelson AHT: hopefully we'll get at least one more out. Producer Nick: I'm gonna try to I wanna re watch Interview with the Vampire for sure. And I'm gonna finally watch The Exorcist. Nelson AHT: The Exorcist. Yeah, it's been a long time since I watched it and it's it's not one of my like favorite movies, but as a as a movie guy, you have to watch The Exorcist. I mean you can't go Producer Nick: Yeah. Nelson AHT: it's say you haven't seen The Exorcist, you know. Producer Nick: I'm interested to know if I feel like for me if it's gonna be the classic that everyone that everyone says it is, you know? Because I I mean, by all intents and purposes, I feel like this is a is a classic. Like as you said, a must watch. Nelson AHT: It's a classic, it's a must watch, and you have to realize when it was made, what was it like seventy two or whatever? But when when you see the subject matter and the things that are done and said in this movie, like people were just like, you know, it's Producer Nick: Yeah. I mean, is this the one where people are like vomiting in the movie theaters and stuff like that and freaking out and Yeah. Nelson AHT: I think that's embellished. I mean, you know, there's every time the the next scariest movie of all time comes out, there's all these stuff, but all that's hogwash, I think. I think that's much crap. Producer Nick: Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm gonna watch it and if I throw up while I'm watching it or run out of the room screaming, or if I have to go spend the night at your house, then I'll I'll let you know. Nelson AHT: It's not gonna be that bad, but some of the things that that she says and does after she's possessed, you're gonna be like ooh, you know. Producer Nick: Yeah. So that's that's so it's interesting that you say that because that's kinda where some of the Nelson AHT: Kinda what happens here. Producer Nick: the things come in in in the movie that I watched. So yeah. More parallels. Yeah, I'm Nelson AHT: All right. Producer Nick: I'm excited. I'm excited to watch it. Nelson AHT: Cool deal.
