- 0:34Speaker 1: are icons in the world of country music. If they
- 0:37Speaker 1: had a Mount Rushmore of country, you might see these
- 0:40Speaker 1: fellows right up there on it. They had solo careers
- 0:44Speaker 1: before they joined together to create one of the most
- 0:47Speaker 1: popular tandems in the history of country. You know, there
- 0:52Speaker 1: are many hits like me on my Maria and me, me,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and many, many more. Their new album, Reboot 2, comes
- 1:03Speaker 1: out November 15th. It has new takes on their classic
- 1:06Speaker 1: songs with folks like Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, and Laney Wilson.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I am so excited today to sit down with Mr.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. Brooks and Dunn.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I'll sit and tell you my story.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Shine on me.
- 1:36Speaker 5: And I will find a song I've been singing.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you guys for coming in, man.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Good to be here.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Good to see you guys. I watch you all the time,
- 1:54Speaker 2: not just saying that. I watched you with Post Malone
- 1:55Speaker 2: the other day. I don't know how far back that
- 1:57Speaker 2: was videoed or shot.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Funny stuff. Yeah, he's wild, man.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he's really, he's just like an infectious thing, kind of.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Isn't it funny?
- 2:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yes, sir. No, sir. Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 1: He's like a kid who got in trouble, but he's
- 2:16Speaker 1: going to keep partying, you know?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Yeah, right. Right.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Would I be stopped drinking? He said, what's the worst
- 2:22Speaker 2: time of your life? Well, it's when I was drinking.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Have you stopped?
- 2:25Speaker 1: No.
- 2:27Speaker 3: What's different?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, I mean, he's, yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Never thought about it.
- 2:32Speaker 2: He's an interesting cat, and he's absolutely a sweetheart, though. Oh, yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You talk to him, it's like Mr. Theo, you know.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He's the nicest guy. Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah, he's super nice, man. You guys have had such
- 2:43Speaker 1: a career, man. Thank you so much for all the music.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Thanks for letting us hang around this long, you know.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Been around how long? Several semesters.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Does it feel, did it ever feel, did it feel like,
- 2:58Speaker 1: cause you guys got part, did you guys get paired
- 3:00Speaker 1: together or how did it kind of the beginning become?
- 3:03Speaker 1: We're not going to go through all the history, but
- 3:05Speaker 1: I just want, you know, just so some people may
- 3:07Speaker 1: not know.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Classic story, you know, right out of the movies, just
- 3:12Speaker 4: friend of ours who we both had a lot of
- 3:14Speaker 4: respect for Tim Dubois, great songwriter himself and whatever. It's actually,
- 3:18Speaker 4: accountant at vanderbilt as well you know smart guy too
- 3:21Speaker 4: but um he just invited us to lunch and thought
- 3:25Speaker 4: we might uh might be a good pair up and
- 3:28Speaker 4: you know ronnie and i were just kind of growling
- 3:30Speaker 4: across the table at each other it didn't make any
- 3:32Speaker 4: sense to us and um you guys can both write
- 3:35Speaker 4: songs he goes you know just go see if you
- 3:38Speaker 4: can write a song together okay so i think that
- 3:41Speaker 4: was tuesday maybe thursday we wrote brand new man friday
- 3:45Speaker 4: we wrote this song next broken heart and Ronnie had
- 3:47Speaker 4: already written Neon Moon and Boot Scootin' Boogie, and I
- 3:50Speaker 4: had another song, Lost and Found, and we just screwed
- 3:54Speaker 4: up and been riding the bus for 30 years trying
- 3:56Speaker 4: to figure out how to get off it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It's just like we weren't brothers growing up.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Did it feel like a pressure, like you had to
- 4:05Speaker 1: be like, Like, I just want, yeah, like, because with comedians,
- 4:08Speaker 1: they don't really have that where they kind of partner
- 4:11Speaker 1: you up, I guess, for television shows and stuff they
- 4:12Speaker 1: do where they package shows. But, yeah, I wonder, did
- 4:15Speaker 1: it feel, did you guys feel a pressure like we
- 4:17Speaker 1: have to or it was just?
- 4:19Speaker 4: No.
- 4:20Speaker 2: No, we felt broke and hungry. Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 3: What's the motivation?
- 4:26Speaker 2: We had to back up a little bit.
- 4:29Speaker 4: We felt like none of this shit's really working that great. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 4: I mean. I'd had some success as a songwriter, written
- 4:35Speaker 4: a couple of hits and whatever, and Ronnie had just
- 4:38Speaker 4: been out in Okie, you know, hiding, writing great songs.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Totally unheard of for somebody who hadn't been in Nashville
- 4:46Speaker 4: really studying the craft, so to say, to show up
- 4:49Speaker 4: with songs like Neon Moon and Boot Scoot and Next Album,
- 4:54Speaker 4: Hard Working Man, and Used to Be Mine. Ronnie just
- 4:56Speaker 4: had written all these great songs by himself, which now
- 5:00Speaker 4: I can't even tell you who's out there writing songs
- 5:03Speaker 4: by themselves. They'll probably watch and go, hey, how about me, dude? But,
- 5:06Speaker 4: you know, it's a co-writing town. It just really is.
- 5:10Speaker 2: It's becoming more and more of a co-writing town.
- 5:12Speaker 4: More and more writers on every song.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I saw one with nine writers. I saw one with
- 5:17Speaker 2: nine writers.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I mean, what the heck?
- 5:18Speaker 2: We used to like, we'd throw a bet, you know,
- 5:20Speaker 2: if it was like three writers in the room.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Did it feel like you guys had to, because I
- 5:28Speaker 1: bet it's like, Once you get partnered with somebody, it's like,
- 5:32Speaker 1: this is a long ride. And you don't really know
- 5:34Speaker 1: how long the ride is when you start. Did it
- 5:37Speaker 1: feel like you guys over the years, like you had
- 5:38Speaker 1: to be best friends? Did it ever feel like a
- 5:40Speaker 1: pressure to be like that?
- 5:43Speaker 2: Maybe, but I don't think we took it to heart.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I mean, it was like, hey, Tim, back up on
- 5:49Speaker 2: your story a little bit for me. But Tim had
- 5:52Speaker 2: heard me playing a bar in Oklahoma, and he was
- 5:55Speaker 2: circling through. And Clive Davis, and he were putting a
- 5:59Speaker 2: label together. So he told me, he says, I really
- 6:03Speaker 2: want to sign. He said, I've already got Alan Jackson
- 6:05Speaker 2: and Diamond Rio.
- 6:08Speaker 4: You already had a boy singer and a band.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And a girl.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Pam Tillis. And it's like he's going down the list.
- 6:14Speaker 2: We didn't realize this at first, but he was going
- 6:16Speaker 2: down the list going, okay, now I need a trio.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I've got a trio. Now I need a duo. Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 2: But we didn't know that until after the fact.
- 6:24Speaker 4: The judge were breaking up, so he saw an open
- 6:28Speaker 4: slot on the CMAs, I think.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Might have been true.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It was true.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I think it was that manipulative. Yeah. Yeah, I saw
- 6:35Speaker 2: you guys do your walkout with Morgan. How was that, man?
- 6:37Speaker 2: That was cool.
- 6:39Speaker 3: He's got it stirred up, and it's like, okay, so
- 6:42Speaker 3: where do we start?
- 6:44Speaker 2: So how about that kid? Did you know about it
- 6:47Speaker 2: before what it was or no?
- 6:49Speaker 4: I really didn't.
- 6:49Speaker 3: They were trying to explain to me what was going on.
- 6:52Speaker 4: And like, we're going to look back and you guys
- 6:54Speaker 4: come down the hallway and then y'all are going to
- 6:56Speaker 4: walk out together to his stage.
- 6:58Speaker 3: You know, we're going to film it and it's a
- 6:59Speaker 3: big deal.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I'm like, okay.
- 7:03Speaker 2: We keep up with it to the extent that we
- 7:05Speaker 2: know how he's selling out stadiums everywhere. And it's like,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know, get out of the way. And he's crashing
- 7:09Speaker 2: websites and live nation is, you know, they, if you
- 7:12Speaker 2: announce ticket sales at all, you know, it blows up
- 7:15Speaker 2: through the roof. So, and I had, I had, uh,
- 7:18Speaker 2: did a walk on with him at Bridgestone when he
- 7:20Speaker 2: played here a couple of years.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I saw that show actually. I was at that show.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 2: That was awesome. Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But yeah, to do that, it's kind of an interesting thing.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Cause you're back there. You don't really know what's going on.
- 7:30Speaker 1: You know, you can't, you can kind of start to
- 7:32Speaker 1: hear people cheering, but you don't really know.
- 7:34Speaker 3: So did you do that with him?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I got to do one with them here in, uh,
- 7:38Speaker 1: in Nashville, uh, Yeah, with DeAndre Hopkins that plays for
- 7:42Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Yeah, sure.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But it's still kind of confusing because you're like.
- 7:46Speaker 3: J-Hop.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, D-Hop.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Oh, that's what I meant.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Oh, what did I call him?
- 7:53Speaker 3: DeAndre.
- 7:54Speaker 2: No, but when I did it, he wasn't doing the
- 7:56Speaker 2: walk yet. So we were in Kansas City the other
- 7:59Speaker 2: night with him.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Is that right? No, no, no.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we were in Kansas City.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Kansas City.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's where you guys did the walkout with him, right?
- 8:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, because it's kind of wild.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It's just this thing. I guess they kind of just
- 8:11Speaker 2: started it. Yeah, you don't know. Yeah, you're right. You're
- 8:14Speaker 2: just kind of thrown into the fray there. Yeah, you
- 8:16Speaker 2: just kind of don't know what's going on. Am I
- 8:18Speaker 2: supposed to walk here and be cool? Am I supposed
- 8:20Speaker 2: to rub your shoulders? Right.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And it's starting to get weird. People are rubbing on
- 8:25Speaker 1: him and people are, yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It's starting to get a little aggressive, I feel like.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And the only thing you know is it's like they
- 8:32Speaker 2: make open.
- 8:32Speaker 3: What are you doing? Stop doing that. Get off of me.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Don't touch the artist. And they tell us, they said, no,
- 8:39Speaker 2: he's going to walk fast. Okay, you're going to walk fast. Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 2: That's it. And then off you go.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It'll be cool when he just starts wrestling. Yeah. It's
- 8:50Speaker 1: him and his agent just back there fist fighting. Oh,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it's definitely bizarre because you like, you
- 8:55Speaker 1: don't really know what's going on. And then he's like,
- 8:57Speaker 1: all right, let's go. And for him, it's just, he's
- 8:59Speaker 1: just getting, you know, heading to work.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And then it, yeah, it had to be weird because
- 9:04Speaker 1: you get to the stage and then you guys can't
- 9:05Speaker 1: go out to the stage.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So it's like, Yeah, it's.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Like, yeah, we're on.
- 9:09Speaker 4: It's like, stop.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 3: No, this is not your show.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Stop hitting the cameras off. Follow that guy.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it really was like that, man. Because I didn't
- 9:18Speaker 1: even play anything when I was like, I can try,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you know. I was like, let's do it.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Right.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You know?
- 9:22Speaker 2: That's how we were. You just wing it.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Give me something to bang on. Oh, yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And DeAndre, he looked like he was ready to just
- 9:28Speaker 1: run a 40-yard F flat, you know. So I was like, yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: let's get him out here, dude. So that was interesting, man.
- 9:37Speaker 1: What's been one of the tougher things that came with, like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: fame that you guys realized? Because you guys went to being, obviously,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you were doing well in your careers individually. But even
- 9:47Speaker 1: as you were just saying, like, you know, you guys,
- 9:50Speaker 1: the first couple songs you put.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Out were hits. That's right. First four were number ones.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I mean, that's a lot of number ones, dude, you know?
- 9:58Speaker 2: We just called some buddies up in a panic. and
- 10:01Speaker 2: started playing honky-tonks in bars. Even our manager told us
- 10:04Speaker 2: not to do it. I said, no, man. If we're
- 10:06Speaker 2: running off, like, we're knocking hits out of the park
- 10:09Speaker 2: right now, we need to have a tight band, you know,
- 10:12Speaker 2: when they do— or we get in a place where
- 10:15Speaker 2: we're in front of a lot of people. So we
- 10:16Speaker 2: went for the first year, year and a half, playing
- 10:19Speaker 2: clubs everywhere from here to California.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Which was the coolest. It was Animal House.
- 10:26Speaker 4: The coolest memory for me, because probably like Ronnie, I mean,
- 10:31Speaker 4: just a lot of years of turning corners on clubs
- 10:34Speaker 4: and stuff. And there'd be four or six cars in
- 10:37Speaker 4: the parking lot, you know, and you just have to
- 10:39Speaker 4: go and.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Set up yours too. And one of them's a girl
- 10:43Speaker 1: you came to invite to impress.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 10:46Speaker 4: And a couple of guys that don't like it cause
- 10:48Speaker 4: they want her too.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And she's not cute at all.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 4: You set your stuff up, you know, and nobody cares
- 10:57Speaker 4: and whatever. And then, next thing you know we're parking
- 11:00Speaker 4: down the road and to get to a place because
- 11:03Speaker 4: the parking lot's full now those were great nights they
- 11:06Speaker 4: really were you know you really really couldn't screw up
- 11:09Speaker 4: too bad because it was fired up and that's kind
- 11:12Speaker 4: of what you dream about when you're learning to tune
- 11:15Speaker 4: your guitar you know just man just just the clubs
- 11:19Speaker 4: part of it I mean the whole Coliseum thing and
- 11:21Speaker 4: that that other kind of success was I wasn't even
- 11:25Speaker 4: thinking that far this was just like man It worked.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:30Speaker 4: It was so crazy because we don't know each other
- 11:32Speaker 4: from Adam. Even at that point, we don't know each
- 11:34Speaker 4: other from Adam.
- 11:35Speaker 2: We would learn in interviews about one another. About each other?
- 11:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Like, I didn't know you did that.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Now, as you started to get famous, I'm just curious
- 11:42Speaker 1: about this kind of stuff, you know, because fame and
- 11:43Speaker 1: popularity is such like a, it's an interesting thing, right?
- 11:47Speaker 1: And it's its own thing because you can't exactly plan
- 11:49Speaker 1: for it. Like, were there things that you kind of
- 11:53Speaker 1: missed kind of immediately about that? Like, because once you
- 11:56Speaker 1: kind of Once it starts to happen, it's hard to
- 11:59Speaker 1: put it, you can't really put your life back into
- 12:01Speaker 1: that old jug, really.
- 12:02Speaker 2: No, and you don't see it coming. You can't plan
- 12:04Speaker 2: for it, no matter where it is. I think, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 2: even if you grew up around it, which I didn't,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but I can remember, this is so strange still, I
- 12:11Speaker 2: can remember going home after the first, like, say, run,
- 12:14Speaker 2: the real, like, tour when we were opening for Reber
- 12:17Speaker 2: or whatever, and my wife and mother-in-law going, she said,
- 12:24Speaker 2: you've changed. I'm like, what? She said, you changed. She said,
- 12:29Speaker 2: you're not the same. And I was like, I didn't
- 12:33Speaker 2: feel like anything was any abnormal other than I was
- 12:35Speaker 2: going out on a bus and singing in front of people.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I didn't come back going, you know.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Hey, I'm famous. Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 2: But people's perception of you changes, you know. Don't you think?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's kind of uncomfortable because you don't, you
- 12:51Speaker 1: kind of wish it wouldn't.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Well, you need that safety net of normalcy, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 2: to come back to, especially at home. And it was
- 12:59Speaker 2: just kind of all of a sudden you're getting pushed
- 13:02Speaker 2: in the corner in a way by that whatever perception
- 13:06Speaker 2: is of fame. I just did a bunch of acid,
- 13:09Speaker 2: so we're heavy with this.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Oh, I'm not even here.
- 13:14Speaker 2: No, no. It's just coming out of cosmic space right now. Mushroom,
- 13:18Speaker 2: not acid. Acid's out.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I think that it's funny. My wheels are turning just
- 13:23Speaker 4: thinking about those times. And honestly, I love– somebody made
- 13:27Speaker 4: a statement one time we're having a conversation like this
- 13:30Speaker 4: and said yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I want to be a star i want to be
- 13:32Speaker 3: a star i want to be a star.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Will you people please leave me alone you know i've
- 13:36Speaker 4: never felt that way you know i mean like ronnie
- 13:40Speaker 4: for so many years we were i was 36 he
- 13:43Speaker 4: was 38 when we met you know with nothing going
- 13:46Speaker 4: on really and i mean that's.
- 13:49Speaker 7: That's that's pretty old to just get started with a
- 13:53Speaker 7: career where you're put together by a record company and
- 13:56Speaker 7: to think you're going to have a 30-year-plus run or something.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, we didn't think about the 30-plus-a-year run.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I know. That's what I mean.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Our philosophy was, hey, you've got three to five years.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Let's maximize it. Let's take what little money we make.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And I was going to go. Janine, my wife, and
- 14:13Speaker 2: I just got married in Oklahoma. So our goal was,
- 14:17Speaker 2: you know what? Interest rates are like 10%. And this
- 14:20Speaker 2: was back, tells you how far back it was. Interest
- 14:23Speaker 2: rate's 10%. We make a million dollars. We can live
- 14:26Speaker 2: off $ 100, 000 a year and live like kings. We drove
- 14:31Speaker 2: up to the first house, bought this little house in Nashville.
- 14:35Speaker 2: We're just here for a little while. Save your money.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Honestly, I don't know if you remember this, Ronnie, but
- 14:41Speaker 4: we were sitting in the Nashville airport just shooting the bull.
- 14:45Speaker 4: And we've always just, I guess, had kind of a
- 14:48Speaker 4: natural thing. just a couple of guys and we're smart asses. Just,
- 14:52Speaker 4: you know, just goofballing all the time, talking to people
- 14:55Speaker 4: just like, like we are today. And, and anyway, these
- 14:59Speaker 4: two girls came over and I saw three of them
- 15:02Speaker 4: over there talking and they came over and ask if
- 15:04Speaker 4: they could get an autograph and they had a CD
- 15:06Speaker 4: and whatever. And, you know, and we just shot the
- 15:09Speaker 4: bull back and forth a little bit and whatever. And
- 15:11Speaker 4: I mean, they were sweet whenever we signed their CDs.
- 15:14Speaker 4: And I've always been happy to do that. Glad anybody cares,
- 15:17Speaker 4: you know?
- 15:18Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 4: And, uh, And a couple of minutes later, their friend
- 15:21Speaker 4: comes over and said, our friends told us what you said.
- 15:23Speaker 4: We're getting rid of all our CDs. We've always thought
- 15:26Speaker 4: y'all were so great.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I mean, just teed up on us.
- 15:30Speaker 4: And we're looking at each other and going, I'm trying
- 15:32Speaker 4: to remember this conversation, what I could have possibly said.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And I mean, I like to think of myself as
- 15:40Speaker 4: a good guy, nice guy. And I've always respected our
- 15:44Speaker 4: fans and everything else. I'm like, what just happened? But
- 15:48Speaker 4: it made me realize that. That moment, that minute that
- 15:54Speaker 4: we spent together totally wraps somebody's impression of you and
- 15:59Speaker 4: what kind of human you are and how they'll tell
- 16:02Speaker 4: everybody they meet for the rest of their lives.
- 16:04Speaker 3: That they're just jerks. That's the part.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Did you ever find out what you said?
- 16:09Speaker 3: I have no idea what we said. You were involved.
- 16:12Speaker 3: You sound like you must have been involved. Yeah, that's
- 16:14Speaker 3: what I'm thinking.
- 16:15Speaker 2: What did you say?
- 16:16Speaker 3: I wasn't there. I wasn't there.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Don't suck me down that rabbit hole.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It does feel like you get on this one-minute game
- 16:24Speaker 1: show to prove to somebody that you're okay or something.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that stuff, it's like... It's like a job interview.
- 16:31Speaker 2: You got to be quick.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and the job is you want them to think
- 16:35Speaker 1: you're okay or something.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You're the guy for the job in one minute. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: You can do it. I can't.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that kind of stuff gets a little tricky. Was
- 16:44Speaker 1: it tough like... What about, like, having a family and
- 16:47Speaker 1: stuff and touring so much? Like, what were things that, like... Yeah,
- 16:51Speaker 1: what's that like?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Dude. Is it hectic?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Dude.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I had just been married. I mean, we just got married,
- 16:59Speaker 2: came up, and June Carter Cash gave us a little
- 17:01Speaker 2: cabin on top of the hill, not far from their
- 17:05Speaker 2: house to live in.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And so.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Nice little house, like something out of a magazine. But
- 17:15Speaker 2: it was on top of a mountain by itself. And
- 17:17Speaker 2: so we see, boom, we get a hit right out
- 17:20Speaker 2: of the gate. We're gone. And it wasn't too long.
- 17:26Speaker 2: It's like, I mean, we didn't have, we had like
- 17:29Speaker 2: cell phones, but we didn't, thank God, have cameras. But
- 17:34Speaker 2: I started getting these terrorist faxes, I called them. She
- 17:37Speaker 2: would fax the hotel. I'd talk longer than we'd talk.
- 17:40Speaker 2: So long on the phone, they'd go, okay, all right,
- 17:43Speaker 2: all right. I'll be home in two weeks. I know.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I understand. I get it. I love you.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Bye. Ring.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I'm not answering the phone. That ain't going to happen.
- 17:54Speaker 2: So not 10 minutes later, I get this knock on
- 17:56Speaker 2: the door. And it's like they slide this stack of
- 17:59Speaker 2: faxes underneath. So she started faxing me. It's like, what
- 18:04Speaker 2: the hell? And this goes on for, I don't know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: a few months. And we sorted it out. But to
- 18:09Speaker 2: this day, I mean, then she's.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It was.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I had to go to therapy over it. Oh, I'm sure.
- 18:14Speaker 2: With her or without her? With her. At her request, obviously.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Because I'm broken.
- 18:19Speaker 3: She's not.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Anyway, that's a long thing.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Eric Chenault had one of those. Because we had a.
- 18:25Speaker 4: a cell phone per se on tour, but it was
- 18:28Speaker 4: like something that the army would use. You know, it
- 18:30Speaker 4: had a suitcase thing that it was in and all that.
- 18:33Speaker 1: The second you press a button, a helicopter would come
- 18:36Speaker 1: behind you.
- 18:36Speaker 3: 18 bucks a minute.
- 18:38Speaker 8: A long way from 18 bucks a minute.
- 18:43Speaker 3: It's important. It wasn't cheap, man. It wasn't. Yeah, but
- 18:46Speaker 3: it wasn't with our wives or anything.
- 18:48Speaker 2: No, we didn't give our wives a number. It's important.
- 18:54Speaker 8: It's strictly a beer phone.
- 18:59Speaker 2: You're like, we need an airdrop now.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Right.

- 23:04Speaker 4: But my kids were on the bus. That was in
- 23:07Speaker 4: the summer. It was good because we were still playing
- 23:09Speaker 4: a lot of fairs and stuff back then. It was
- 23:12Speaker 4: kind of like summer vacation, honestly. Fortunately, we did have
- 23:20Speaker 4: some success and made a little money and were able
- 23:22Speaker 4: to get our own buses pretty early. is the reason
- 23:25Speaker 4: we're still sitting here having this conversation.
- 23:27Speaker 2: There were 13 of us on one bus for a
- 23:29Speaker 2: year with the merchandise, boxes of T-shirts and stuff like that.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And then one of our guitar players slept in the
- 23:36Speaker 2: back with the merchandise. Oh, yeah, there's always that weird guy.
- 23:41Speaker 2: It was Animal House.
- 23:42Speaker 1: That guy, Human Gerbil, he's back there just burrowing in
- 23:45Speaker 1: a bunch of extra-larges back there.
- 23:47Speaker 2: It was absolute Animal House, man.
- 23:49Speaker 1: He just completely covered himself with nine mediums back there,
- 23:52Speaker 1: you know?
- 23:53Speaker 2: It was a guy named Bird Burton who was a
- 23:55Speaker 2: famous guitar player for their amazing rhythm aces and a
- 23:58Speaker 2: bunch of rock stuff. And he'd come up there, bless
- 24:02Speaker 2: his heart, we were currently trying to, you know, Really
- 24:04Speaker 2: trying to keep him around. But somehow you have the
- 24:08Speaker 2: sofa in the back with the merchandise. He goes, we
- 24:11Speaker 2: don't have any blankets, so you sleep under T-shirts, right? Anyway,
- 24:15Speaker 2: it was Animal House. It was like Animal House? Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 2: we had one guy that's like, you know, all the bunks,
- 24:20Speaker 2: like there's what, nine or six to a side, I think. Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And then the back lounge. And there's one guy that
- 24:28Speaker 2: we called him, what, Fred Sanford. He was the junk man.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And you couldn't stop at a truck stop, and he
- 24:33Speaker 2: wouldn't go in and buy a freaking CB.
- 24:36Speaker 3: A CB radio and a bunch of chips. You'd hear
- 24:39Speaker 3: him at four in the morning.
- 24:40Speaker 7: Turn over and be like an Ace Hardware in his bunk.
- 24:45Speaker 2: You'd hear chip bags crinkling at night and stuff.
- 24:47Speaker 3: You're like, what?
- 24:48Speaker 2: And all of a sudden there's the wall and then
- 24:52Speaker 2: the bunks, and you'd see their chip bag would fall
- 24:55Speaker 2: down through to the next guy.
- 24:56Speaker 3: He's like, God dang, man.
- 24:58Speaker 2: It was crazy stuff.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Truck stops are great, though. Oh, man, so much fun.
- 25:01Speaker 4: There's so much good stuff in there, especially when you
- 25:04Speaker 4: cross a border. Early on, Faith Hill was opening up
- 25:06Speaker 4: for us.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Oh, wow, huh?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and I forget. Oh, and Wade Hayes. All the
- 25:11Speaker 3: boys love that.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And y'all struck out with her, I guess.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Damn, huh?
- 25:15Speaker 2: No joke. We got stranded in Canada in a snowstorm.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of stuff.
- 25:21Speaker 1: God couldn't have set the table any better for one
- 25:23Speaker 1: of you guys.
- 25:23Speaker 3: It was tough. It was rough.
- 25:25Speaker 4: So in the first truck stop, I go in and
- 25:28Speaker 4: I'm looking at all their cool stuff in the freezer
- 25:30Speaker 4: in Canada. And I put, it was an eel. It
- 25:33Speaker 4: was a frozen eel in the freezer. And I'm like, Wow,
- 25:36Speaker 4: so I bought it. I mean, I have no idea
- 25:39Speaker 4: what I'm going to do with this, but I couldn't resist.
- 25:42Speaker 2: But that was a phase when everybody started enrolling. But
- 25:44Speaker 2: that was a phase when everybody was playing pranks on
- 25:46Speaker 2: the road.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And Faith was like, she was one of the guys.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I mean, you had to keep up with that. She
- 25:52Speaker 2: would throw stuff.
- 25:52Speaker 4: And an eel could come in handy in all kinds
- 25:55Speaker 4: of regards.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And who'd even had an eel? I don't even, some
- 25:57Speaker 2: people don't even.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Canadians.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that was the point. It's why you
- 26:01Speaker 2: bought it. It's like, look at this.
- 26:02Speaker 3: What the hell?
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's kind of a little bit of a nicer snake.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It's the most Canadian thing, you know?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 4: But we get to the end of the tour, and
- 26:09Speaker 4: sure enough, I walk by. We're fixing to go to
- 26:12Speaker 4: the stage. Faith is on next. And Wade Hayes had
- 26:16Speaker 4: just gotten off stage. I went by to tell him,
- 26:17Speaker 4: you know, good show and whatever. And he's kind of
- 26:19Speaker 4: leaned over.
- 26:20Speaker 3: He's looking pretty peaked. And I'm like, dude, you okay?
- 26:23Speaker 3: He's like, no, man.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I was like.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Faith, put salt in my drinking water on stage tonight.
- 26:27Speaker 3: I go, oh.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Made him sick with stomach.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yeah, made him sick. So I'm like, that's wrong. I go,
- 26:31Speaker 3: I got you, dude.
- 26:33Speaker 4: So she was in a hotel, but we had the
- 26:37Speaker 4: codes to her room and her fictitious name, whatever she
- 26:40Speaker 4: was using at the time.
- 26:42Speaker 3: So me and Doug make a run.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Well, first I put the eel in the microwave and
- 26:49Speaker 4: The eel didn't even have a head.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I mean, once you've thawed him out, he got real slimy,
- 26:54Speaker 3: you know. So we had over there.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Heartbreaking childhood he must have had.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Dude, you know it.
- 27:00Speaker 2: You bring your own food.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Pulled back the covers and just laid him out right
- 27:05Speaker 4: where those pretty little feets were going to go, you know.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Kind of pushed it down so we put the covers back.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Just made it look really good. Anyway, and the next,
- 27:14Speaker 4: didn't hear a thing. She didn't say anything. We just
- 27:16Speaker 4: keep waiting for the other shoe to fall.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 27:19Speaker 3: So we're going through customs, getting back into the States
- 27:22Speaker 3: the next day.
- 27:23Speaker 4: And I go through, and the lady's going.
- 27:27Speaker 3: She goes, Mr. Brooks. I go, yes. She goes, I
- 27:30Speaker 3: need you to come over here to the side. I go, yes.
- 27:32Speaker 4: She goes, apparently there's been a complaint filed against you
- 27:36Speaker 4: about some stolen jewelry by Ms.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Faith Hill.
- 27:39Speaker 4: And she starts pulling this rubber glove on.
- 27:42Speaker 3: And I go, don't do that. Don't do that.
- 27:45Speaker 4: It ain't in there.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Look.
- 27:49Speaker 3: You better not be kidding her.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I swear to God.
- 27:53Speaker 4: She couldn't hold it.
- 27:55Speaker 3: She finally broke. I go, come on. It's not our
- 27:58Speaker 3: first date. Leave me alone. You're not even in this game.
- 28:05Speaker 2: You did sing a little higher that night.
- 28:08Speaker 1: The world was fun then, too, when things were a
- 28:10Speaker 1: little bit more simple, you know?
- 28:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. In a lot of ways.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Yeah. That was a lot of fun, man.
- 28:17Speaker 1: And you couldn't capture the moment as much, so you
- 28:19Speaker 1: had to enjoy the moment because that was the only,
- 28:21Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying?
- 28:22Speaker 2: Well, you got too much downtime. I mean, it was not,
- 28:24Speaker 2: you know, if you're not on stage doing something creative,
- 28:26Speaker 2: you're doing something destructively creative on the backside. Oh, yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 2: You know, you've been out there. Oh, it's the dark
- 28:32Speaker 2: arts out there, brother.
- 28:33Speaker 1: It is. Did you guys ever have a comedian that
- 28:36Speaker 1: opened up for you guys? I know sometimes they used
- 28:38Speaker 1: to do that on shows.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Gary Mule Deer.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 28:40Speaker 3: Yeah, still a good friend. Love Gary. Yeah, we did... Did, what, Vegas?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Vegas a couple times.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's hysterical. I don't know how many times, but he
- 28:51Speaker 1: was out with us quite a bit. That's a tough gig,
- 28:54Speaker 1: I feel like. But he played guitar as well?
- 28:57Speaker 4: Well, you know, Gary's like, he does play guitar, and
- 29:02Speaker 4: it's incredible because he just did a, we did a
- 29:05Speaker 4: show together out in California not too long ago, and
- 29:08Speaker 4: he played, because he always, he's got a Johnny Cash voice,
- 29:11Speaker 4: and he'll do Ring of Fire or something like that
- 29:14Speaker 4: every now and then.
- 29:15Speaker 3: He's hysterical, though.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Just real straight-faced joke teller and can just break you down.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I've got to tap in with him. I've heard of
- 29:24Speaker 2: him before.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of, like, because committees, you go
- 29:26Speaker 1: to the next club, and the other person's just been there,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you know? And I've seen a lot of his, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 1: seen his name a ton over the years, but.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I've been around forever but he he actually performed a
- 29:37Speaker 4: song and it was god bet this thing had 20
- 29:39Speaker 4: verses and it was it was it was i'm not
- 29:42Speaker 4: kidding it was like but it was a real country
- 29:45Speaker 4: music analog kind of take you through this whole journey
- 29:49Speaker 4: of thing it was really neat big time stand to
- 29:52Speaker 4: know because i've seen him perform i don't even know
- 29:55Speaker 4: how many times at this point and um And everybody
- 29:59Speaker 4: there was like, wow, you got that off your chest.
- 30:02Speaker 4: And he did not tell a single joke.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Really?
- 30:04Speaker 4: He sang that one song and left the stage.
- 30:07Speaker 3: It was so cool.
- 30:08Speaker 2: But it was a humorous song.
- 30:10Speaker 3: No, it wasn't funny. It was a real song. It was.
- 30:14Speaker 2: But he was a comedian. He is a comedian.
- 30:16Speaker 3: He's a great comedian, yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Maybe that's his idea of comedy.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Him and Roger Miller toured together.
- 30:22Speaker 9: Wow.
- 30:22Speaker 4: And you've heard of people doing these Roger-isms, these funny
- 30:25Speaker 4: things that he told all the– he knows all of them.
- 30:27Speaker 3: I mean, if you ever run into him, get him going.
- 30:30Speaker 4: On Roger because he's one of the great historians, the
- 30:34Speaker 4: keepers of the Rogerisms too.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Great guy, funny comedian.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I need to run into him. Yeah, what do
- 30:40Speaker 1: you feel like being a duo? Were there other duos
- 30:45Speaker 1: in music that reached out to you guys over the
- 30:48Speaker 1: years to help learn how to navigate that template?
- 30:54Speaker 2: Does that make any sense to you? Yeah, it does
- 30:58Speaker 2: make sense, but no. As friendly as they say the
- 31:02Speaker 2: world of country music is, it's so darn competitive. Everybody
- 31:06Speaker 2: hates one another. They act like they don't on TV.
- 31:10Speaker 2: You think people are really competitive, though? Oh, heck yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Big time competitive. One of my favorite things is Dolly
- 31:16Speaker 2: Parton in an interview years and years ago, they were
- 31:18Speaker 2: talking about somebody and she just goes, oh, honey, there's
- 31:21Speaker 2: room for everybody.
- 31:23Speaker 3: No, there's not.
- 31:24Speaker 2: You want to get down to it? No, there's not.
- 31:27Speaker 1: What's the most competitive part? Is it people trying to
- 31:30Speaker 1: get the best songs? Where does the competition really come in,
- 31:35Speaker 1: do you feel like? Because that's interesting.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I think just by nature, to be here and be
- 31:39Speaker 2: in this game, be in your game or anything, there's
- 31:42Speaker 2: a competitive, don't you feel? There's a competitive dynamic that
- 31:47Speaker 2: that runs through it. Especially in the beginning, for sure. Yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 2: but you want to catch up, like, how many number
- 31:52Speaker 2: ones do you have? Who had our number one this week?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Who has it?
- 31:54Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 2: And we can be cool and, like, sit back and go,
- 31:56Speaker 2: you know, we don't care. It's no big deal. We're
- 31:59Speaker 2: not in it for that. We're in it for the love.
- 32:02Speaker 2: And that's not the case. But that's also healthy. That's
- 32:05Speaker 2: what keeps you going.
- 32:07Speaker 3: We do make some real friends along the way. We have.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I mean, you do.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 3: There are people that you're competitive.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I mean. David Lee Murphy is a great example. You know,
- 32:19Speaker 4: he wrote with him yesterday. Uh, you know, the song
- 32:21Speaker 4: dust on the bottle. I'd be a little, that's David
- 32:24Speaker 4: Lee Murphy. Him singing, him writing turned into writing a
- 32:28Speaker 4: lot of great songs too. Yeah. And we got here,
- 32:31Speaker 4: both got here in 79, literally swept floors for Charlie
- 32:35Speaker 4: Daniels for 30 bucks a night. I was, you know,
- 32:38Speaker 4: getting rent paid and playing writer's nights and stuff. And, um,
- 32:42Speaker 4: and still he's on tour with us now. And, uh,
- 32:46Speaker 4: going out with us next year. We toured again last year,
- 32:48Speaker 4: and we've toured together before. We've got real friends that
- 32:53Speaker 4: the competition, I can't say, I don't know, maybe it
- 32:58Speaker 4: does go away or something. At some point in your life,
- 33:01Speaker 4: I think you have a certain amount of success. You
- 33:03Speaker 4: still want to succeed, but it's like you're not so ferocious.
- 33:09Speaker 4: When you start and everything matters, and it's not that
- 33:13Speaker 4: everything doesn't matter anymore, but it's like everything kind of
- 33:17Speaker 4: turned down the heat a little bit, you know, let's
- 33:20Speaker 4: simmer here and see if we can't do something real,
- 33:22Speaker 4: something good. Now we kind of know you can't, you
- 33:25Speaker 4: build confidence too. Again, like I said, Ronnie and I,
- 33:28Speaker 4: we didn't figure we'd go a year or two. That's
- 33:30Speaker 4: why we were desperate through pretty much through our whole
- 33:34Speaker 4: career is just kind of, this isn't going to work
- 33:37Speaker 4: this way. You know, we're always doubting ourselves, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 4: always trying to do anything we could, what, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 4: to do something really special because it's probably going to
- 33:46Speaker 4: be our last song, you know, our last video.
- 33:49Speaker 3: I mean, we've always kind of felt a little desperate,
- 33:52Speaker 3: I think.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Does it feel like it's out of your control sometimes
- 33:55Speaker 1: as a musician? Because a lot of it is what
- 33:58Speaker 1: songs you get, right? And you can write your own songs,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you can write them with other people, but does it
- 34:02Speaker 1: ever feel like it's out of your control? Kind of like,
- 34:05Speaker 1: how well you keep doing, or does it feel like
- 34:07Speaker 1: it's in your control?
- 34:08Speaker 2: You know what it is. I mean, 60%, 70%, I
- 34:12Speaker 2: don't know how much you can add to the dynamic.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I can add up to 100%. Of luck, right? No,
- 34:17Speaker 2: I'll go the other way. I mean, I guess. I
- 34:20Speaker 2: don't know.
- 34:20Speaker 3: We could try to do more.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I can't even.
- 34:22Speaker 3: I don't know how we would do it. A lot
- 34:23Speaker 3: of it is luck, you know?
- 34:25Speaker 2: But it's that thing, you know, if you're working at
- 34:29Speaker 2: it and luck strikes, it's like you're ready for it,
- 34:31Speaker 2: you know? You got your ball middle. Bang, catch it.
- 34:34Speaker 2: And we're from there. But we work hard at it.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I mean, we're songwriters before we're performers. Right, that's a
- 34:42Speaker 2: great point. Y'all weren't up there just, hey, somebody sell
- 34:45Speaker 2: me a hit. You're like, I have the ability to
- 34:47Speaker 2: make my own hit. It's all about the song. It's
- 34:49Speaker 2: all about the song. And then as you move through
- 34:50Speaker 2: the business, you meet people. You meet people that are
- 34:53Speaker 2: pitching you good songs, too. And you can't write them all.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Timing has a lot to do. It really does.
- 35:02Speaker 2: What do you mean by that? That's luck, too.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Yeah, certainly. That is.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, time is just luck with a clock.
- 35:08Speaker 3: There you go.
- 35:08Speaker 2: That's great. Write that down.
- 35:11Speaker 4: I mean, we both had some kind of solo record
- 35:13Speaker 4: deals before we had to do a deal. Ronnie was
- 35:16Speaker 4: singing his ass off before I met him. At 38
- 35:19Speaker 4: years old, why wasn't he a star already?
- 35:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:23Speaker 3: I'm just saying. He's 38 years older. Are you afraid
- 35:27Speaker 3: of that?
- 35:27Speaker 2: Don't look 38.
- 35:28Speaker 3: I wish I was.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Is it tough to age gracefully? Is it tough to
- 35:34Speaker 1: be like, cause even I noticed that, you know, in
- 35:37Speaker 1: my own career, it's like, you know, you start to
- 35:38Speaker 1: do good and you're like, Oh, well I'm getting older.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And then you're like, you start to see the younger
- 35:41Speaker 1: guys that are doing well. And you're like, Oh, well
- 35:44Speaker 1: this is all gonna, is there a graceful way for
- 35:47Speaker 1: this to end? Or does it just end?
- 35:49Speaker 2: Or like, I think you just play that one by ear,
- 35:53Speaker 2: you know, I keep telling people I'm going to die
- 35:56Speaker 2: in denial related to age. It's like, I'm, I'm not
- 35:59Speaker 2: going to know how old I am. I don't want
- 36:01Speaker 2: to know. It pisses me off to see every article.
- 36:05Speaker 2: There's somebody writing stuff, and you go, well, and so-and-so,
- 36:08Speaker 2: you know, 80 years old, whatever.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Leave age out of this. Bernie's out there rocking.
- 36:16Speaker 2: He's cool. Oh, yeah? Yeah. Look at Willie. He'd be
- 36:21Speaker 2: the standard bearer for that.
- 36:22Speaker 3: But no. I mean, McCartney?
- 36:25Speaker 2: They're still out doing their thing.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I was actually, so I'm in a bath, and
- 36:29Speaker 1: a couple of months ago, we were in the same
- 36:31Speaker 1: bathroom at the same time.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Wow, what'd you do?
- 36:33Speaker 1: Huh?
- 36:34Speaker 3: What'd you do?
- 36:35Speaker 2: Just the number one.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Did you try to shake his hand or anything?
- 36:37Speaker 2: Oh, no, I didn't do anything like that. Huh?
- 36:39Speaker 4: I freeze.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Hey, I just let it be, dude. You just let
- 36:43Speaker 2: it be.
- 36:43Speaker 3: That was a little. Wow, you said something to him.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I think I, honestly, I probably said, like, good day
- 36:50Speaker 1: or something like that. Like, I think I was probably
- 36:52Speaker 1: trying to, welcome him in like a British tone or something.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Good day, mate.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah. I freeze. I freeze.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Anytime I get around somebody that's really, really famous. I just,
- 37:03Speaker 2: I'm balked off.
- 37:04Speaker 3: That's true, dude.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Right? Good day.
- 37:07Speaker 3: You're in Ireland. Good day, mate. No, they're like prisoners
- 37:11Speaker 3: from England or something. Good breeze.
- 37:12Speaker 2: He must have been like this guy. I'm never cool
- 37:15Speaker 2: around somebody famous. Wish I could be. Uh-uh.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Yeah, were there guys like that coming up that you
- 37:20Speaker 1: guys met? Or what question had I just asked? Let
- 37:23Speaker 1: me make sure I stay on topic.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Were you ever in the bathroom with Paul McCartney?
- 37:28Speaker 2: Tell us about the time you and McCartney.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Were in the bathroom. One time I was also in
- 37:35Speaker 1: the bathroom with, I'll go through them all. Montel Williams, okay?
- 37:40Speaker 1: He was a talk show host and Kid Rock one time,
- 37:43Speaker 1: and I urinated right between them, dude. Oh, wow.
- 37:46Speaker 2: That's a DMZ, man. It really is. Incoming. You make
- 37:51Speaker 2: the wrong move there, anything.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Can go happen, right?
- 37:54Speaker 2: Either way, yeah. Either way, it was big trouble.
- 37:56Speaker 4: I just want to try and shake hands just to
- 37:58Speaker 4: see what they're going.
- 37:59Speaker 3: To do, though.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Oh, no. Oh, no. Hey, man, it's just, I've always,
- 38:03Speaker 2: you know, just.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Especially if you reach over the stall top.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Johnny Cash said the strangest thing like that that ever
- 38:12Speaker 2: happened to him, and he said he was in a
- 38:15Speaker 2: stall in the airport or something, and this paper slips
- 38:19Speaker 2: under the wall.
- 38:20Speaker 3: I was like.
- 38:22Speaker 2: We're good.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Don't touch it. I don't have a pencil.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Like, hey, that paper likes men. That's all I'm saying.
- 38:29Speaker 1: So you guys got to meet Johnny Cash?
- 38:31Speaker 3: Yeah. No way.
- 38:33Speaker 1: What was he like just as a regular guy? Was
- 38:35Speaker 1: he like a friendly guy? Was he kind of like
- 38:37Speaker 1: a stoic guy?
- 38:38Speaker 2: Stoic and quiet by nature when you first meet him.
- 38:41Speaker 2: And that in and of itself is intimidating.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 2: And then as you get to know him, he's a
- 38:47Speaker 2: 17-year-old kid. That was it. I mean, he'd do just crazy.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Funny as all get out. Yeah?
- 38:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 2: My wife, her first husband, and rented a car one
- 39:01Speaker 2: piece at a time. And Johnny sang about it. One
- 39:06Speaker 2: piece at a time.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Or built that car.
- 39:08Speaker 2: He built a car. Oh, built that car one piece
- 39:09Speaker 2: at a time. I'm sorry, yeah.
- 39:10Speaker 3: The song. He built the car. So he.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Or Johnny really built a car? Sorry, I'm confused. No,
- 39:16Speaker 2: her ex-wife built the car about the song that Johnny sang.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Got it.
- 39:21Speaker 4: He liked the song, and him and his bud said, man,
- 39:23Speaker 4: let's let's build it let's actually.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Build it they're always going around they own cold strip
- 39:27Speaker 2: coal mines in oklahoma and he uh johnny did or
- 39:31Speaker 2: his friend no no janine my wife's okay got it
- 39:33Speaker 2: yeah so she was they were well acquainted they they
- 39:36Speaker 2: all became fast friends travel the world together i mean
- 39:39Speaker 2: really really tight and uh So when I was brought in,
- 39:45Speaker 2: her husband passed away. And when I was brought in,
- 39:49Speaker 2: it's like she's marrying or dating a musician, you know.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And Janine goes, I'm going to take you to John
- 39:58Speaker 2: and June's house in Nashville the first time that she
- 40:01Speaker 2: did it from Oklahoma. And I went, no, I don't
- 40:02Speaker 2: really want to do that. You know, I just kind
- 40:05Speaker 2: of saw that one coming, you know. And John, of course,
- 40:09Speaker 2: John's real quiet. Would you wear over that? Did you
- 40:11Speaker 2: get dressed up or what? You know, black, all black. No,
- 40:15Speaker 2: I mean, jeans, what I have on now, this kind
- 40:17Speaker 2: of stuff. Were you nervous or not? You remember?
- 40:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I was always, I was super shy and quiet. And
- 40:24Speaker 2: then I'm kind of coming out of my shell a
- 40:25Speaker 2: little bit these days. But, yeah. He was obviously glad
- 40:30Speaker 2: to see her. I mean, I'm the new kid on
- 40:32Speaker 2: the block. You know, you don't just screw this. Who's
- 40:33Speaker 2: this long drink of water? Yeah, your girlfriend bringing you
- 40:36Speaker 2: over to meet her parents. Who's this pervert or whatever, yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know you, but I'm a pervert,
- 40:43Speaker 1: so I'm sure most of us are.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Well, that goes with it. You can't be in a
- 40:46Speaker 2: band and not be a pervert. Anyway, and Johnny knew that.
- 40:51Speaker 2: He'd be a pervert himself.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Who isn't, man?
- 40:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 40:57Speaker 2: Dude, if you show me 70 people, I'll show you
- 40:59Speaker 2: 70 perverts.
- 40:59Speaker 3: You're a comedian? Yeah, you're a pervert.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Wow, that's pretty fascinating, though.
- 41:06Speaker 1: And did people look up to him as like a–
- 41:08Speaker 1: kind of like was he this– was he as– Because
- 41:13Speaker 1: now he's almost, there's an idolatry about him in a way.
- 41:16Speaker 1: You know, you see the t-shirts with the Johnny Cash
- 41:18Speaker 1: and just his cash.
- 41:19Speaker 2: But he's always been that way. He's been that way forever. Listen,
- 41:22Speaker 2: here's a funny thing. So the log cabin that they
- 41:25Speaker 2: let us live in, June did that for Janine, not
- 41:29Speaker 2: for me. you know, called her and said, look, okay,
- 41:32Speaker 2: this guy's going to try to make it in the
- 41:33Speaker 2: music business. You know, good luck. It ain't going to happen,
- 41:36Speaker 2: but we'll give you a place to live.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 41:38Speaker 2: We'll give you a flammable home. Right. Temporary residence.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Cause it's not going to last long until I find
- 41:45Speaker 2: you a guy with money. All right. So thank God
- 41:48Speaker 2: we have these hits right off the bat. And suddenly
- 41:50Speaker 2: June goes, whoo.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 41:51Speaker 2: You're in, you know, she, she told Janine during that
- 41:55Speaker 2: first visit, she said, look, here's, here's how it goes down.
- 41:58Speaker 2: She says, it, it, The odds are a million to one. No,
- 42:03Speaker 2: 10 billion to one. You know, they'll make it. And
- 42:06Speaker 2: if he does, it's not going to last long. That's
- 42:10Speaker 2: the nature of the business. And number three, they're all crazy.
- 42:14Speaker 2: If they do make it for a long time, you know.
- 42:17Speaker 2: So she called her babies. It was Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson,
- 42:23Speaker 2: Hank Jr., Larry Gatlin.
- 42:27Speaker 3: I mean, just.
- 42:28Speaker 2: The wild boys of that era. Oh, yeah, the feral. Yeah.
- 42:33Speaker 2: So she goes, you know, just look. The uninsurable. They
- 42:36Speaker 2: put us through hell, right? She says, so get ready.
- 42:41Speaker 2: There's no good to it. So anyway, where was I?
- 42:48Speaker 2: With Johnny. You said, was he stoic and stuff? First
- 42:51Speaker 2: day there, June takes Janine, and they leave the house
- 42:55Speaker 2: to go shopping. Oh, so it's just you and him?
- 42:58Speaker 2: And me and John in that house alone, okay? I
- 43:01Speaker 2: always go to the bathroom and stay in there for
- 43:03Speaker 2: at least a minute to get ready. Yes, sir. It's
- 43:06Speaker 2: like I'm the unwelcome guest, or at least I'm feeling
- 43:08Speaker 2: that way. Oh, for sure. You are. John's quiet anyway.
- 43:14Speaker 2: He doesn't like... And what's he just polishing a gun
- 43:17Speaker 2: or something? No, no. Probably, yes, pretty close to it.
- 43:22Speaker 2: He comes out of the far end of the house.
- 43:23Speaker 2: There are two black, uh, leather recliners in front of
- 43:27Speaker 2: this TV. And, uh, he sits down and he's watching
- 43:33Speaker 2: like CNN or whatever. And I sit in the next one,
- 43:36Speaker 2: just sitting there and no one says anything. I'm like,
- 43:40Speaker 2: how long is that in my life? I didn't know
- 43:43Speaker 2: what to say to him cause he didn't, he didn't talk.
- 43:45Speaker 2: But now I know, know what I know. He didn't
- 43:47Speaker 2: talk to anybody. Right. Uh, and all of a sudden
- 43:50Speaker 2: out of the blue, he goes, you see these, uh,
- 43:53Speaker 2: you see these newsreels here, these things. He said, that's
- 43:57Speaker 2: a loop. And he said, you know, I'm an addict.
- 44:00Speaker 3: And I went, okay.
- 44:02Speaker 2: And he goes, I used to sit and watch TV
- 44:06Speaker 2: for days until those loops would end. And then he
- 44:09Speaker 2: said it would start a whole other cycle of the news.
- 44:13Speaker 2: And he's explaining, you know, how TV works to me
- 44:15Speaker 2: and that stuff through the eyes of being high. Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And shortly after that, it seemed like two days that
- 44:27Speaker 2: we were sitting there. It was probably a couple hours.
- 44:29Speaker 2: And Janine and June come back. They've been shopping at Steinmart.
- 44:34Speaker 2: I like Steinmart, actually. Some of the sleeves are a
- 44:38Speaker 2: little different. Well, June took her there in her new
- 44:41Speaker 2: blue Rolls Royce that John had just given her for
- 44:43Speaker 2: her boat. So there's a little, you know, yin-yang there. Yeah.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Janine was just pale white. Now, she knows no strangers,
- 44:50Speaker 2: so you never see Janine down. So she kind of
- 44:52Speaker 2: walked in. She was like, she'd just been scared by
- 44:55Speaker 2: a ghost. And so I kind of peeled away and
- 44:59Speaker 2: met her in the back of the house. I said,
- 45:00Speaker 2: what happened? She goes, I'll tell you later. I can't
- 45:02Speaker 2: talk about it. Well, June had read her the right
- 45:05Speaker 2: act on all this stuff I just told you about.
- 45:10Speaker 2: They're not going to last, da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And I said, can
- 45:13Speaker 2: we go now? She goes, no, we've got one more day.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Because the stairs doesn't clean.
- 45:19Speaker 4: One more day.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Right.
- 45:20Speaker 2: But no sooner did we get here, and they were
- 45:23Speaker 2: the most absolute supportive people in the world. John came
- 45:26Speaker 2: up one day. We were getting ready to shoot the
- 45:28Speaker 2: CD cover for Brand New Man, the first CD. And
- 45:33Speaker 2: I said, he was always into everything. He goes, what
- 45:35Speaker 2: are you going to wear? How are you going to look?
- 45:37Speaker 2: How are you going to.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Do your hair?
- 45:38Speaker 2: That kind of stuff, into image. I said, well, I
- 45:40Speaker 2: don't know. I've got a few things, ideas. He goes,
- 45:44Speaker 2: all right, I'll be back. As he left, he's getting
- 45:46Speaker 2: his Mercedes.
- 45:47Speaker 3: He's shot out.
- 45:48Speaker 2: It's down the hill. He needed a goat to get
- 45:50Speaker 2: up the mountain to it. He goes flying down the hill.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I guess he goes home, comes back in an hour
- 45:55Speaker 2: or so, opens the trunk of the car, reaches in,
- 46:00Speaker 2: and hands me this black suit. He goes, I had
- 46:04Speaker 2: this back in 1972. It was made by Manuel. He goes,
- 46:07Speaker 2: I was sick back then, which meant I was. He
- 46:11Speaker 2: was sick. Yeah.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 46:12Speaker 2: So he was skinny enough for me to wear my
- 46:15Speaker 2: skinny ass to get in that suit.
- 46:17Speaker 4: You know?
- 46:17Speaker 2: And he goes, don't tell June. She doesn't like me
- 46:20Speaker 2: giving stuff away. And I have it to this day.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I wore it on the back of that CD cover. Oh, wow.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:26Speaker 2: That's crazy. Oh, it was.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Hey, man.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Check the pockets, dude. Let's party. I bet that thing's
- 46:31Speaker 2: got something.
- 46:32Speaker 4: It was something.
- 46:32Speaker 3: And the parties there, too, was strictly lemonade. Lemonade and
- 46:36Speaker 3: iced tea.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Really keeping it sober?
- 46:38Speaker 4: Keeping it completely sober. On the table, for sure.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. You know, and nothing in the back kitchen.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I mean, she was pretty.
- 46:46Speaker 2: She wore the pants in that deal, huh?
- 46:48Speaker 3: At that point.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Was she pretty much a. Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Because he probably needed somebody to really care for him.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Let me add spice to that little story is that
- 46:57Speaker 2: that particular weekend that we were there, he was on
- 47:00Speaker 2: furlough from rehab. Okay. And how long do you have
- 47:04Speaker 2: to be in real life? You get furloughed. I thought
- 47:05Speaker 2: that was a military. I don't know. Johnny Cash, right?
- 47:08Speaker 1: Only Johnny Cash would have went to, right? Only he
- 47:11Speaker 1: would have went to boot camp.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 47:14Speaker 2: And so all of a sudden at the end. How
- 47:15Speaker 2: many tours did he do?
- 47:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Oh, he did a lot. But the day, the day
- 47:20Speaker 2: before he's supposed to go back, this is a Saturday.
- 47:22Speaker 2: He's going back on Sunday. He comes down with the flu.
- 47:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:25Speaker 2: June's having no part of that. She's completely just, no,
- 47:29Speaker 2: we're done. So she wanted to talk to him, and
- 47:33Speaker 2: we're caught in the middle of that. And I'm going,
- 47:34Speaker 2: can we go home now? Can we go home now?
- 47:36Speaker 2: She says, no, no, no, not yet.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Please go home.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Janine can tell this story better than I can. So
- 47:43Speaker 2: June goes to Janine. She goes, y'all have to drive
- 47:45Speaker 2: me to the hospital. Take him to the hospital here
- 47:47Speaker 2: in Hendersonville. Make sure, just see what's wrong with him.
- 47:50Speaker 2: She says, I'm not talking to him. She says, he
- 47:51Speaker 2: can walk as far as I'm concerned. Okay, we got it.
- 47:54Speaker 2: So we get in the car, start to get in
- 47:56Speaker 2: the car. John wants to drive. Yeah. Okay. So John drives.
- 48:00Speaker 2: He drove?
- 48:01Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 48:02Speaker 2: But it was like pedal to the metal, boom, off
- 48:05Speaker 2: all the way. Pedal to the metal.
- 48:07Speaker 3: And Janine said, well, he just drives like that.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, because you start nodding off and he nods
- 48:10Speaker 2: back off.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Right?
- 48:11Speaker 3: You nod off, you nod off.
- 48:12Speaker 2: So we get to the hospital and they're rolling him
- 48:14Speaker 2: in in a wheelchair. And Janine goes up to the
- 48:18Speaker 2: desk to give him all the information and they take
- 48:20Speaker 2: John back. And he's there maybe an hour. And then
- 48:24Speaker 2: we come back. And he goes up to his room,
- 48:28Speaker 2: his hospital room at the house. He's playing it up, man.
- 48:32Speaker 2: He's like, I got to do more. I can't go back.
- 48:34Speaker 2: She goes, you're going back to rehab. So June goes, well,
- 48:39Speaker 2: how did it go, Janine? She goes, well, they asked
- 48:41Speaker 2: for his doctor. And June goes, oh, hon, he's in rehab.
- 48:45Speaker 2: The doctor was in rehab? The doctor was in rehab.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Oh, Lord.
- 48:50Speaker 2: He goes, oh, sweetie, no, no.
- 48:53Speaker 4: He hadn't made furlough yet.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Dr.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Nick's in rehab.
- 48:57Speaker 3: I said, okay, we can go now, right? She goes,
- 48:59Speaker 3: pretty soon.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Wow, that's a great story. That's my first Johnny Cash
- 49:04Speaker 2: and June Carter.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Unbelievable. Yeah, experience.
- 49:07Speaker 2: We had Ric Flair.
- 49:09Speaker 1: We spoke with him one time, the famous wrestler, you
- 49:11Speaker 1: know him, and he's quite a character, and he uh
- 49:14Speaker 1: he was in a rehab center and the doctor that
- 49:18Speaker 1: yeah he got it put in there with him and
- 49:20Speaker 1: he was in there and one day one day they're
- 49:23Speaker 1: giving pills to both of them and he's like why
- 49:25Speaker 1: are you giving pills to the doctor like no the
- 49:26Speaker 1: doctor's in here now oh yeah i mean so apparently
- 49:32Speaker 1: that's part of the deal man well it's just everywhere
- 49:35Speaker 1: just like that oh yeah look so many of my
- 49:37Speaker 1: friends i mean i i i i go to recovery meetings.
- 49:40Speaker 1: So many people deal with, you know, that sort of stuff.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Was it tough for you guys to keep it clean
- 49:45Speaker 1: over the years? Did you guys get tempted with drugs
- 49:47Speaker 1: or alcohol or what was that like?
- 49:49Speaker 3: I don't know. Really? Tempted with drugs or alcohol?
- 49:51Speaker 4: Huh?
- 49:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Oh, not me. Did you, Ronnie? I'll go with you.
- 49:57Speaker 2: You're the only one to explain this.
- 50:00Speaker 4: We might have took a drink or two along the way.
- 50:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 50:03Speaker 4: I think Ronnie took a lot of pills, but I
- 50:07Speaker 4: never did.
- 50:09Speaker 6: Oh, what?
- 50:10Speaker 3: Well, well. Yeah, but I have allergies.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Oh, now you do.
- 50:18Speaker 8: A lot of allergies. I've never seen somebody... Oh, that
- 50:23Speaker 8: dust will give it to you. I'm from Louisiana too, dude.
- 50:26Speaker 4: I started drinking at a very early age.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Wow.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Was it hard? Were there certain points where you guys
- 50:35Speaker 1: had to tell each... At what point do you guys
- 50:39Speaker 1: ever have to be like each other's... Caretaker? Yeah, not
- 50:43Speaker 1: caretaker in the sense like actually physically, but just like,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you know, and then how hard is it to take
- 50:47Speaker 1: that suggestion from the other guy, you know, like from
- 50:51Speaker 1: the other lead?
- 50:52Speaker 2: We don't do it much. We don't do it much.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I mean, that's one of the unique dynamics of how we,
- 50:57Speaker 2: you know, the relationship we have. We don't do that.
- 51:00Speaker 2: If it is, it'll be some comment in passing and,
- 51:03Speaker 2: you know, and you'll know. So, Honestly, we sit here
- 51:06Speaker 2: laughing about this stuff, but there's not a lot of
- 51:07Speaker 2: nonsense that goes on. It's like we're up there to
- 51:10Speaker 2: do what we do. We appreciate where we are. And
- 51:14Speaker 2: God knows we know the pitfalls. Yeah.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:17Speaker 4: And have we ever been over-served on stage or whatever
- 51:20Speaker 4: like that?
- 51:21Speaker 3: Yes. Has anyone ever told us?
- 51:24Speaker 4: Are you slurring your words?
- 51:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:27Speaker 3: You're slurring your words?
- 51:29Speaker 1: No.
- 51:29Speaker 2: You're slurring your vehicle. I haven't been told that before.
- 51:32Speaker 3: You know, you've already written that song. Don't write it
- 51:34Speaker 3: again in the middle of it. You know, that kind
- 51:37Speaker 3: of shit. Yeah.
- 51:40Speaker 4: We've had a few faux pas. People don't believe when
- 51:43Speaker 4: I tell them this. We have never. I mean, we're both,
- 51:45Speaker 4: you know. Hard-headed, whatever. I came from a pipeline background.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Same with him. We have never raised.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Our voices to each other.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Have we ever been mad at each other?
- 51:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Have we ever been pissed at each other? Yeah, for sure.
- 52:02Speaker 2: We'll go off and pout.
- 52:03Speaker 3: But that's it.
- 52:04Speaker 4: We've always been able to go to our separate corners
- 52:07Speaker 4: and come back later.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Some of that you think it was just because you
- 52:11Speaker 1: started to achieve your most success. that people would know
- 52:15Speaker 1: you from once you were older? Like you think if
- 52:17Speaker 1: it would have been younger, like, do you ever think
- 52:18Speaker 1: of like the blessings of that? Cause it's kind of
- 52:20Speaker 1: a blessing and a curse. Cause everyone wants to be,
- 52:21Speaker 1: everyone wants to be 27 and famous, you know? But
- 52:26Speaker 1: if you're 38 and you get popular. You know, it
- 52:29Speaker 1: feels a little different, you know.
- 52:30Speaker 2: It has a lot to do with it. You appreciate it.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah, because there was a point for a long time
- 52:36Speaker 2: where there was no plan B.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:38Speaker 2: You know, and we both felt that. And, no, so
- 52:43Speaker 2: you learn to appreciate it. It's just that just, you know,
- 52:47Speaker 2: beating into you through the ranks. Yeah, dude, we used
- 52:51Speaker 2: to slow dance to y'all's music, dude. I would be so.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Nervous, dude.
- 52:57Speaker 2: God, dude. I just couldn't even.
- 53:02Speaker 1: I would stand so far away from the girl, like
- 53:05Speaker 1: as far as I could, but still touching her a
- 53:07Speaker 1: little like this.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Kind of thing.
- 53:09Speaker 4: Barely touching her.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Two fingers.
- 53:12Speaker 2: You were down in the trenches, man. You were on
- 53:14Speaker 2: the floor. See, we're up there on the bandstand going,
- 53:17Speaker 2: I don't look right.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Just go on, dude.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Go on.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Get up against it. Go on. What are you doing?
- 53:25Speaker 1: What?
- 53:25Speaker 8: I was too I couldn't get up It was too
- 53:28Speaker 8: hard And that line match thing Man Whole front of
- 53:31Speaker 8: my body Sweating I was like I never knew you
- 53:33Speaker 8: could sweat Just in one hemisphere Of your body.
- 53:37Speaker 3: And never move Yeah.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Oh man You guys We were talking about Songwriting earlier
- 53:43Speaker 1: You guys Your new album Has a lot of like
- 53:46Speaker 1: Some of my favorites on And people that have That
- 53:49Speaker 1: we've been able to have On the podcast before I
- 53:51Speaker 1: think Ernest is on Hardy Morgan Yeah Laney. Laney Wilson.
- 53:56Speaker 1: How amazing is Laney Wilson?
- 53:59Speaker 3: She's great.
- 54:00Speaker 2: She's special, man. She's special. She's a Louisiana girl.
- 54:02Speaker 3: She's from right up the road from where my farm is.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 54:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 4: I mean, literally, we're honestly 18 miles apart.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Oh, that is close.
- 54:12Speaker 3: And you're from Covington, I think I saw somewhere. Did
- 54:15Speaker 3: you really grow up there?
- 54:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:16Speaker 3: You did?
- 54:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I grew up there. Our town is, we have
- 54:19Speaker 2: this tallest statue of Ronald Reagan there.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Somebody stole the arm, but they got it back.
- 54:25Speaker 3: They got it back?
- 54:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:26Speaker 2: How'd they get it off? I don't know.
- 54:29Speaker 3: Is it bronze?
- 54:31Speaker 2: I think it's bronze.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Is it concrete or something?
- 54:33Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 54:33Speaker 2: It's specialty metal. Oh, there you go. So which arm? Huh?
- 54:38Speaker 2: Was his right arm or his left arm?
- 54:40Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 54:42Speaker 2: You can Google that, too, how they get the arm off.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Yeah. You can Google that? They get the arm off?
- 54:49Speaker 2: They get the arm off Reagan. In Covington, Louisiana.
- 54:53Speaker 3: In Covington. A lot of welders down there, right? First
- 54:55Speaker 3: of all, find Covington. They got torches. There are a
- 54:57Speaker 3: lot of welders down there.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 54:59Speaker 3: They got torches.
- 55:01Speaker 2: That's pipeline country, man.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Damn right. Oh, we can get an arm off. You
- 55:04Speaker 3: want an arm?
- 55:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:05Speaker 3: How far?
- 55:06Speaker 2: They tried to recycle it. That's how they caught the guy.
- 55:08Speaker 4: What?
- 55:09Speaker 1: And, yeah, they took it to, like, the local aluminum. Oh,
- 55:12Speaker 1: because he's thinking it's maybe copper or something. He can
- 55:14Speaker 1: buy some crack. Hell, yeah, I'm going to give me
- 55:16Speaker 1: a couple hundred bucks for this.
- 55:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they cut it off. I guarantee he's a welder.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Look at Ronnie.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Oh, that was in Poland, yeah, so they must have
- 55:25Speaker 1: done it. But they did it by us, too. Somebody
- 55:27Speaker 1: got it off, but they got it back on. It
- 55:29Speaker 1: was a copycat thing.
- 55:31Speaker 3: A copycat arm thief. Wow, that's dark. No, they did
- 55:36Speaker 3: it in Poland.
- 55:40Speaker 2: How far is Covington from Eldorado, Arkansas?
- 55:42Speaker 3: A long way. It's in South Louisiana.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 55:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he's close to Baton Rouge.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Because we talk a lot about northern Louisiana, where the
- 55:48Speaker 2: farm is, and Monroe, and all that. All my grandparents
- 55:53Speaker 2: are from Eldorado, Arkansas. Okay, it's a beautiful country out there. Yeah.
- 55:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's pretty. Shreveport's kind of gone through a,
- 55:59Speaker 2: it's been through some things, you know? Yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Pretty funky, which is where I went to school.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Whatever, yeah.
- 56:06Speaker 2: They just tore down the tallest building in Shreveport.
- 56:08Speaker 3: What?
- 56:08Speaker 2: Really? Bring it down.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Not the Beck building. They did a beautiful implosion. I
- 56:15Speaker 1: watched it the other day on TikTok.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Wow, I wonder if that's where it was. That's where
- 56:17Speaker 3: my father's office was.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Was it a drone attack? I don't know.
- 56:23Speaker 3: The tallest building in Shreveport. There it is.
- 56:26Speaker 1: They just brought it down. Yeah, I think it was the.
- 56:30Speaker 3: That's a bank building.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bank building.
- 56:33Speaker 3: You're right.
- 56:34Speaker 1: The bank building's 20 stories. Must have been the richest,
- 56:38Speaker 1: richest building in town. That's pretty fancy right there.
- 56:42Speaker 2: Beautiful building.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Look at all those real.
- 56:45Speaker 2: Glass windows on them.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know.
- 56:48Speaker 2: That's it right there. Wow. Probably somebody's wife was trying
- 56:52Speaker 2: to get in and settle in.
- 56:53Speaker 3: Look at all the buildings around it. It wasn't the tallest.
- 56:56Speaker 2: It was the only. Probably.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Probably for a casino. It could have been, man. Street four,
- 57:04Speaker 1: it's kind of wild. I've been like, there's a lot
- 57:06Speaker 1: of haunted. Everything there seems kind of haunted. That's Louisiana
- 57:09Speaker 1: in general. It's like New Orleans. Yeah, everything's haunted. Like
- 57:13Speaker 1: you want to buy this haunted biscuit or whatever. It's
- 57:17Speaker 1: two extra bucks just because it's got some damn ghost
- 57:19Speaker 1: jam in it or whatever. Right, right.
- 57:20Speaker 3: Everything does.
- 57:21Speaker 2: It's got voodoo all over it.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Is that hot?
- 57:23Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Go scam.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I just think, but yeah, everything in New Orleans
- 57:30Speaker 1: is haunted. It's like, oh, you haven't been, this is haunted.
- 57:33Speaker 2: You know? It's like a nursery for children, but it's haunted. Okay,
- 57:36Speaker 2: so I read this article the other day. Well, I
- 57:38Speaker 2: guess it was online. It's like the top 10 most
- 57:43Speaker 2: over- least desirable states to live in. And Louisiana was
- 57:46Speaker 2: number one.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Oh, wow. I can't imagine that. That's what I'm saying, bro.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Come on.
- 57:51Speaker 4: Champs.
- 57:51Speaker 3: No, you got out.
- 57:52Speaker 2: You got out.
- 57:53Speaker 4: Everybody's not into haunted.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Look at you.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Rich and famous.
- 57:58Speaker 4: Apparently, 49 states were the people that aren't into haunted.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Yeah, people don't like shit.
- 58:03Speaker 4: Haunted, bro. Yeah, y'all just stay off air.
- 58:05Speaker 3: We'll keep our caters in our eggs. I forget what
- 58:07Speaker 3: it was based on.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Oh, you want to live in the natural realm?
- 58:10Speaker 4: That's fine, bitch.
- 58:11Speaker 2: We're doing others. You don't have a monkey foot under
- 58:13Speaker 2: your pillow? Hanging from your mirror?
- 58:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't have a baby that's chewing on a
- 58:20Speaker 1: lucky rabbit's foot?
- 58:22Speaker 3: You wouldn't know a hoodoo man from Colonel Sanders.
- 58:25Speaker 2: What? Oh, everything there is haunted? Or soaking wet, dude.
- 58:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:31Speaker 2: That's Louisiana.
- 58:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Her mill, dude.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Everything's got a little bit of mold on it.
- 58:36Speaker 2: We go down there. You go down there all the
- 58:38Speaker 2: time because your farm's down there in place. And all
- 58:41Speaker 2: your buddies from Shreveport. Love it. We go down there
- 58:43Speaker 2: and duck hunt on the marshes.
- 58:45Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 58:46Speaker 2: I've never been duck hunting.
- 58:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's cool. Going next week.
- 58:49Speaker 4: Are you?
- 58:49Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Is it more enjoyable than turkey hunting? Or
- 58:54Speaker 1: do you feel, is there some difference?
- 58:55Speaker 3: I think so. I like stuff flying.
- 58:57Speaker 4: You know, I've shot my share of turkeys, but I
- 59:00Speaker 4: really don't care about popping them anymore.
- 59:02Speaker 3: It's like, you know, it's like, do something, you know?
- 59:06Speaker 3: You're like, gay! over here.
- 59:11Speaker 2: It's almost like you're attacking like a bird in a wheelchair.
- 59:14Speaker 3: Exactly. And they get all puffed up too.
- 59:17Speaker 4: It's like some, you know, he's on his last, he's
- 59:20Speaker 4: making his last move on her.
- 59:22Speaker 3: He's so puffed up.
- 59:23Speaker 4: He can't even walk anymore.
- 59:24Speaker 3: You know, he's just like.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Like me at the dance. Yeah, just like doing that.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Got his two fingers up there just trying to get
- 59:31Speaker 1: close to her to do the neon moon.
- 59:36Speaker 3: And then you go, bam. He's headless. Shit, sorry about that, yeah.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Turkey's been all the work of calling them in. This
- 59:43Speaker 2: place we go down in Louisiana, it's called Little Pecan Island,
- 59:46Speaker 2: and it's like one of the four seasons. I shouldn't
- 59:49Speaker 2: rat us out. Really?
- 59:50Speaker 3: It's beautiful?
- 59:51Speaker 2: They got a lot of good turkeys down there? Unbelievable.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Not turkeys, ducks.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Oh, ducks. A good friend of ours, Jim Flores from Houston,
- 59:58Speaker 2: owns it, and it's unbelievable. And what kind of ducks
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: do you get out there?
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: Everything.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Every kind. I have pictures of the sky full. I mean,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: it's unbelievable.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Do they go in shifts, or how do the ducks go?
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: They migrate at different times. Oh, so they're not, like,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: releasing them, and then they come back in?
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: No, they don't release.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: No, it's all wild. Okay.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: They come from the north, and they get cut off
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: down in Missouri and whatever. There's a lot of duck
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: habitat on the way for them to stop and eat
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: and whatever, especially with climate change. We won't get into
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: all that. But, like, Arkansas flooded timber. A lot of
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: those ducks come out of the rice fields and stuff.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: And they're primarily greenheads, mallards. But by the time you
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: get to the marsh, you've got every kind, you know,
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: teal and mallards and you could go on.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: You've got a fat stork up there even.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Oh, everything.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: It's like Africa. It's like going out into the marshes. No.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: You're in that kind of environment.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: So it's so natural, you mean.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: It's so natural. It's real cool, yeah.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: And are you in a boat or are you in?
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: You go out in a boat.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Everybody gets their own guide in their own boat.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: And you have to hide underwater or you're above water?
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: We have scuba tanks and shotguns.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Is it really your.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: Line?
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: No, but the- A blind about as big as your sofa.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: And it's sunk in the water, and then it's covered with,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: and every guide has his own group of blinds he
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: has to take care of.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: A lot of straw and stuff, natural stuff.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Okay, so you're hiding in there? And is there bugs
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: or anything in there? Yeah, bugs everywhere, man. Bugs everywhere.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Bugs everywhere. You know, snakes, alligators for real, alligators all
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: over the place.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: The first thing they do when they get to your blind,
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: you know, the guide will get out and make sure
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: there's nutria, snakes.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: Water moccasins. snakes and gators.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Get all that.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Out of there, exactly. Then they'll take the boat back.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Come back, pull in the P-row.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Sink the P-row next to your blind, get in there
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: and start quacking at them.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Ducks are good to eat, too. Turkeys, you know, people
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: can say what they want. You can fry anything or whatever,
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: but turkeys aren't that.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: Great to eat.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Some people are just real creeps when it comes to eating.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I've had owl. I don't know if we can say
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: it or not.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: No, you can't.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Well, I didn't. You just did.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: I didn't have it.
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: You ate an owl? You just said you did, though.
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: Huh?
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: You just said you had an owl. Did he not
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: just say he had an owl?
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I didn't do it. Wait a minute. I think he
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: said eagle. Yeah.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: No, I didn't say eagle, dude. And if I did,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: it was a wigged eagle. I don't eat bald eagles. No,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: but I did have. We had an owl. My sister
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: grilled up two owls. You just said you didn't have it.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Was it fried?
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: I thought we could say it now. Sorry, Ronnie did it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: I eat anything. You're a freaking owl eater.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: A balding owl eater. I didn't have a lot.
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: You didn't have a lot.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: There's not a lot to them. That's the trick.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: You didn't swallow?
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I didn't inhale. They're the frogs of the animal kingdom,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: of the bird kingdom. Owls and frogs and birds. Why
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: don't you pull that skirt up? I've done some things
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: in my day, but even just to look.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: We're letting you run with it.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Pull up what I'm talking about. Let's at least see the.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Did you Photoshop the eagle out?
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: They were of age, too, the ones I'm talking about.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I just want you to know that, man.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: These were adult owls.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: You're not supposed to do that. So much for wisdom.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Brother, that is something needs to take care of that.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: That's disgusting. Oh my God.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: They migrated over from Chernobyl.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: That's a Russian owl for sure. I wish I hadn't
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: seen that.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Yeah. They just had, what did I just see about Russia, dude?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: They're giving away. Well, there's a war in Ukraine. There's
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: a war in Ukraine. No, but it was some more,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: it was something exciting. Um, Oh, Vladimir Putin urges citizens
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: to have sex during work breaks to address Russia's dire
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: birth rate.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he's just trying to make everybody happy.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: He's trying to put an army together. He's trying to
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: earn an army. Like, hurry up.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: That's not a bad deal, though. Now, that's the kind
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: of stuff we need around here.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: It's like, you know, when everybody's really down over there
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: and depressed and whatever.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: It's like, okay, sex on work breaks. Okay.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: That's a bored dictator is what that is. Literally, brother. Yeah,
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: he'd have to push that through Congress.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: What are we going to do?
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: What are we having for lunch? Depends on who texts
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: me back.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about. Everybody duck, right?
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: I'm proud of him now.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: No wonder Trump likes him.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: What? That's the only thing about communism that's starting to
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: sound appealing, right? I'll tell you this. Yeah, communism sucks,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: but I'll tell you what, the lunches are good. Lunch
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: break is hard to beat.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: What did I just see? I saw another call. Did
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: you see that Pizza Hut thing? I don't know if
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: you can find that, Nick. It was Pizza Hut now.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Listen to this.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: People are having such a tough time getting jobs.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: What is that?
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: It was Pizza Hut will put your resume on a
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: pizza box to help.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: You get a job.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: So you can send.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I took a leave of absence. Okay. 78.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: I've got like a 50-year hole in my resume.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I'm done. I've had this idea forever. Sorry.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: But it's like we're always talking about random ways to
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: promote records and do things, right? That's a good way.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: What about Amazon boxes? We could go to Amazon and go, hey,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: what would it cost to put our logo or whatever
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: on an Amazon box?
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: A fortune.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: How many people– I'm sure that's non-negotiable. Everybody.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Yeah. I bet that's a... Dude, I wouldn't be surprised
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: if they... I'm amazed they haven't done that.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Really, because they own most of the... That's something most
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: of us see all the time.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Yeah. But yeah, that pizza.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Now you can put your resume, you can send it
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: to somebody you're trying to get employed by. You send
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: them a little, you know.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Pizza. Send them a little pizza, yeah.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I'll tell you this.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: If I'm having a slice, I'll... Because you're feeling good.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: You're eating pizza.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: Yeah. So I'm going to think that guy's pretty quality.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Your endorphins are already stimulated by the pizza. And you
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: look over there and go.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: You know what? I like that guy. I know. Like
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: a couple of weeks later, you're like, hey, what happened
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: to that pizza box? Oh, what?
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Never mind.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: We need a new guy in the tech department. Yeah,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: what happened? But then you might start just naming your workers.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: You don't know their names. You just name them like
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: the Italian guys is like extra pepperoni.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Remember we hired him, you know?
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Or Meat Lovers is the guy that's maybe a little zesty,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: you know?
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Big sausage. Spicy sausage.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: So with the new album, is it going to be–
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: tell me about it a little bit. What made you
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: guys want to come back and make more? Because at
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: a certain point, do you feel like you've made enough
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: or does that never go away?
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: What is that kind of like? The first one was
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: just to keep everything between the lines, not strayed very
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: far from the previous cuts. The first what you mean?
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: The first record, Reboot 1.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: We're on Reboot 2 now. But neither of these were
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: our ideas to do. It was our manager's, which is
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: the first good idea he's had I'm thinking you.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Yeah, look, I've had managers. I know what you're talking about.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: Clarence is great.
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: He's a great manager.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: He's a big reason we're here.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Is he?
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: Why Baltimore is the day after Sacramento, I still haven't
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: quite figured it out.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: He still gets paid. His big saying is, hey, what
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: are you bitching about, man?
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: He says, I give you 85%.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: Or his other one is, this is a charity, you know,
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: I need to do this, you know. I mean, damn, Clarence,
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: you're in.
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: He goes, I know. So what is 15% of nothing?
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: It's like, never mind.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Poor little children. And what is his name just so
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: we can.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Clarence Spalding. He is great.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: We're 30-something years without a contract.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: He's got Aldine. I mean, he's doing great.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: And he speaks fluent Brooks and Dunn.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: We couldn't do it without him.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, yeah, I can imagine that. Yeah, you got
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: to have somebody to handle a lot of stuff for you.

- 1:10:47Speaker 1: This episode is brought to you by BetterHelp. But yeah,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: so tell me a little bit about it. What was
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: it like getting to work with some of these artists?
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Had you worked with them before?
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: No, no.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Lainey, she comes in and does her thing. They all
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: get to pick their own songs. 18 artists. Okay. They
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: pick whatever song they want, and that goes on without us.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: That's all up to them, and then maybe they haggle
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: about it with management or whatever. Anyway. everyone showed up
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: with their own version of the song. And it was like,
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: you have artistic creative license to do whatever you want
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: to do with this one.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Oh, dude, I can't put me up there. I can't
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: do karaoke. I mean, if it's Christmas carols, I can
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: do it. But it's like, even some of that, I
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: get nervous, like in the second stands or whatever, you know?
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Melanie has to feed me words to my songs
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: in my left ear. Oh, I thought she was feeding you.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: I thought you was going behind a.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Speaker and eating bird seed out of her hand.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Yeah. She has to feed me whiskey all through the show.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: I did a tour over in Afghanistan with Robin Williams
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: and Louis Black and Kathleen Madigan. And Robin just impressed
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: me because he seemed like he's just ad-libbing everything, you know.
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: And one thing that I learned from him before, and
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: we would spend all day on Blackhawks going to real
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: remote places everywhere, you know, and then at night we'd
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: do in Kandahar or Kabul or whatever, some larger shows.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: But he was.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: Before he would go on, he had a little piece
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: of paper, you know, he'd just written a handful of
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: notes and whatever, and he would pace back and forth,
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: back and forth, back and forth. And I was just
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: really impressed at his professionalism and the way he, and
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: knowing you guys do, people just, you make it look
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: so easy, you know, that when you're flowing through your
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: deal and you got your deal clicking right. And I
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: was just, I learned a lot. And Lewis was hysterical,
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: as you can imagine.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: Just hanging with him. He spent any time with him.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he's very entertaining. He's very smart. The way he
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: talks is funny.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Just to listen to him, you know?
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: He is so aggravated. He really, really is.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: Of course, you can't drink over there at all, you know? Oh,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: that's why it works, probably. Well, yeah, when we got there,
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: Lewis has this giant bag like you carry around this thing.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: huge kind of smaller duffel bag.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Like a man bag. You can go around the world.
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: Completely full of those airport scotch bottles.
- 1:13:15Speaker 8: You know what I'm talking about, right?
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Mine's full of allergy medicine.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: They're like, damn, I didn't know Jim Beam made allergy medicine.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: That's insane.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Look at all these different colored Allegra's. Dude, you guys
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: are funny, man. We didn't mean to be. It's probably
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: helped y'all over the years being able to laugh, huh? Yeah.
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: You got to laugh.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: You got to have a sense of humor. It's like
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: comedians for the most part. You hear this profile, and
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: correct me if I'm wrong, but it's like, you know,
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: it's kind of a lot of comedians are kind of dark, right?
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Yeah. And it's kind of, it's anger coming out in
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: humor sometimes, more times than not. Not to go Dr.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Phil here.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: Yeah, no.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it probably is. A lot of them
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: are dark, yeah. I mean, definitely a lot of them,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: you lose a lot of them to sun.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: It's a pretty.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Too much downtime, too, you know. Yeah, that gets kind
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: of scary. Yeah. You know.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Everybody out there gets that. No matter what business you're in.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: We're on a bus, you know, sitting in your whatever. Oh,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and being on a bus. Dude, I used to ride Greyhound.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: That'll make anybody want to take their life. Oh, cheers.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I used to ride, I used to go work on
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: a farm up in Natchez, Mississippi in the summer, and
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I'd take a Greyhound up from Baton Rouge.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: Dude.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: They put all the inmates on there. It's a lot of, like,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: missing people on there.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Like, I remember a dude came up and he was like,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: have you seen me?
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: He said to me.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I'm like, you sound damn missing, dude. It's just like,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: that's a crazy thing to ask somebody.
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: The station.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: Oh, God, here, you know, I don't know if it's
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: even still where it was. My sister had this au
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: pair who came from France, this real sweet girl that
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: I'd met up in Maine. And I told her, you
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: ought to come visit Nashville sometime. Forgot all about it.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: And I get a call one night at the house,
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: you know, and I said, Mr.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: Bruce, she's crying. I go, yes, Mr. Bruce, it's Russ.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: It's horrible.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: I go.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: What is, what has happened?
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: What is wrong?
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: I'm here.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: I go, you're where? In the middle of Nashville. I go,
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: you're here in Nashville? Yes, I'm here. I go, where
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: are you?
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: What is wrong?
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: I'm at the Grey Dog.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: I'm at the Grey Dog? You're at the Greyhound bus station?
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: I said, my God. I go, look, Do not go
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: to the bathroom. Go sit in a chair. Don't talk
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: to anybody. Don't look at anything. I'm on my way.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: It's like emergency.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Oh, my God. It's like being in the opposite.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: Of a hospital. Going faster than my wife when she's
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: having a baby. It's like I've got to save her. Like,
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: right now, this is an emergency.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Dude, every row of the ground bus, things get seedier
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: and seedier. First, it's weed, and then four rows later,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: they're doing, like, abortions and, like, early term, but still.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: It's like, it gets real dicey, dude.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: It gets real dicey on Graham.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: But you'd have to rescue a French woman from a
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Graham bus terminal.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Was this her first time in? Yeah, they used to
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: do that.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: Because she had been on Up north, they've got real trains,
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: you know, tram and stuff.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: But on the schedule, if you look at it, I'm like,
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: how did you get here? She showed me her schedule.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: They put Greyhound Bus in the middle of Amtrak.
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: So you go from these beautiful, nice things.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: Welcome to America.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you can work on your computer to, oh, my God,
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: what happened?
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: A lot of people on there, yeah, just testing pills
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: on each other. A lot of people, yeah.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Making their, yeah. A lot of people drinking their own
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: bath water. I had a dude selling 40-proof bath water once.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I didn't have a lot, but I had a little.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: It wasn't that bad.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: It wasn't that bad, dude. I'll say this.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: It kind of had a peppermint schnapps vibe to it.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: I'll say this.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Oh, God dang. There's a routine. Jerry Clower was one
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: of my favorite comedians. Did you ever get to meet him?
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: No. I ran into him. No, I didn't get to
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: meet him.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: He was a famous Southern comedian, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: He was great.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: What about Brother Dave Gardner?
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: I never watched him.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: You got to check him out.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Brother Dave Gardner is his name?
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: And he was like.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Let's bring him up, Nick.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: He was sort of the country Lenny Bruce. without using
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: a lot of foul language, but some real dark humor
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: and very inappropriate humor.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Oh, good.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: That's him, Brother Dave. Look at him smoking that cigarette.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Telling you how it is. Got his suit going.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Check that hair.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: It's shining, man.
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: No.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: That cover up on the right, I've got that album.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: Wow. It's all torn over. Dog had chewed the corner off.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: My dad loved him, though. Wow.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: I'm going to start listening to him.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: He was something else.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: Not like your average yeehaw country comedian.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Was there an artist that's passed and you guys, when
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: you guys were admired growing up, you went to their
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: service or anything?
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Somebody you guys really miss?
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: Cash for sure.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Did y'all go to his service? Were you allowed to go?
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: That must have been really interesting.
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: That was my first, yeah.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: June. June, same way. We were at the hospital and
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: she had her heart attack. Wow.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: Didn't get to go to Merle's.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Was he a funny guy? What was he like? He
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: could be funny. Yeah, he could be. He wasn't being
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: funny on this one. No, he came out and did
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: the last five or six dates with us on our tour.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: in 2010. We were shutting things down. It's one of
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: those instances where you meet somebody famous and the hag
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: just shut me down. I could not carry on a
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: conversation with him. It's about as bad as cash. He
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: just didn't like chatting. Well, no, he didn't, but he
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: liked you, and he let you know. Where John didn't
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: let you know for a while. He just smoked you
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: out just to see what you got. He could survive it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: Merle agreed to go on tour with us, but we
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: had to perform with him every night, which, of course, was.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: On stage together.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: Yeah, throw us in the briar patch. I mean, that
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: was such a huge honor and whatever. But he would
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: come up with some obscure songs and whatever, and I
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: jumped in.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: It wasn't like silver wings or anything. No, he's throwing
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: his curveballs from way in the back, man.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: Like, okay, tonight. You guys are out there singing Pitbull
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: or something?
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Diving in person.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: And I hopped up on his bus one afternoon to
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: find out what our song was. We were in Woodstock,
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: New York, I remember, and he's up there burning one down,
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: and he goes, you need to sit down.
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: I go, okay. What is it?
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Merle goes, what the hell's wrong with y'all?
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: I don't know, Merle. What's wrong with this? I got
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: that damn window. All them people out there. What the
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: F's wrong with y'all?
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: I don't know, Merle.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: What's wrong with this? All them damn people out there.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: Y'all want to quit.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Merle it's a good point i said it was ingenious
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: right our last tour we.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Thought yeah yeah so merle you know i gotta tell
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: you poncho and lefty's probably one of my favorite songs
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: ever i said.
- 1:20:41Speaker 9: Watching you and willie in that video it's one of
- 1:20:43Speaker 9: the coolest things i've ever seen you two y'all are
- 1:20:46Speaker 9: like best friends i mean ronnie dunn and i didn't
- 1:20:51Speaker 9: even know each other when we met you know we've
- 1:20:54Speaker 9: bullied our way through this freaking career for 20 years.
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: We have not taken a break, you know, and we've
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: just gotten to a point where we think it'd be
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: the best thing for us.
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: We've made it 20 years. You and Willie Nelson made
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: one album together.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: And he goes.
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but we only had one hit. Okay, Merle, what's
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: my song? And he started laughing. I'm like, you win.
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: You're smarter than me, always will be.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: It is crazy to think, though, when you almost say
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: that to some people, even me hearing it from you guys, like, yeah,
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: this is going to be it. But that's just, it
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: is what it is.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: It's like your life's at where it's at, you know? Yeah.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: When you've taken breaks, what are other things that you've
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: started to fill your lives with that became, like, important
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: to you or that meant something to you?
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: I know you have your vineyards.
- 1:21:47Speaker 6: Uh-huh.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Yeah. My friend Chris used to work out at that.
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but that was, I started that 20 years ago.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: And other things.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: Really what I really wanted to do, and I'd been
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: offered a couple of bit parts in movies and stuff
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: along the way. You know, making a movie takes a
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: long scheduling and all that. And we really, we did
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: tour 20 years without stopping. And I kind of did
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: some theater in college.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: I went to Louisiana Tech, you know.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: Oh, hell yeah, dude.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and enjoyed all that.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Where the red fern grows. They used to do that
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: musical up there.
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: A lot of good. A lot of beautiful.
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: All right, Covington, don't get me started now.
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: Talk amongst yourself. This is a war you don't.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: Want to start.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Hey, look.
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan. Okay, it is. Rustin versus Covington.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: That'd be a great battle. Bring that arm back.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: You can keep Terry Bradshaw.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: Anyway, but I got in, told to call William Marsh,
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: you know, and said, books us and said, Hey, I don't,
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: I don't want to start a movie. I'm not qualified or,
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: you know, don't have the chops, but I would, I would,
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: if there's a bit part or something that maybe some, some, whatever,
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: if something comes up, you know?
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: And so, Yeah, they started sending me some things, and
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: I actually started doing some movies, this and that. My
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: son had studied film at Vanderbilt in English and wanted
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: to be a screenwriter. And one thing led to another.
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: He came out and started writing with some guys that
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: had produced. I co-starred with Ernie Hudson eventually in a Western.
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: Oh, sweet.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: I'm not familiar with Ernie Hudson.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you are.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: Did the Hudson River know?
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you are.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: He was in Ghostbusters.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: He doesn't know him.
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: He was in the original Ghostbusters.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Oh, he was?
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Oh, the talk out of the glasses?
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: The only black guy in the movie. Are you kidding?
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: Oh, shoot.
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: That Ernie Hudson. Oh, that Ernie. I know who he is. Oh,
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: Ernie Hudson.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Ernie Hudson. Oh, I love Ernie Hudson. Yeah, I could
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: tell you did. No, I'm joking, Ernie. No, that's a...
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: So that's something you've enjoyed getting to do then?
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: Yeah, so I got to do that a little bit,
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: and my son wound up being a screenwriter, went out
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: to L.A. to be Tarantino, and he writes movies for
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: Hallmark now.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: Does he really?
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: He does.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: Oh, that's awesome.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Well, Hallmark still makes a lot of movies. A lot
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: of places aren't even making movies, so kudos to him.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: At least he's got some work. They make like 60
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: movies a year or something.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Hallmark does.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: Literally, yeah.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: Some of the studios hardly make any movies anymore, so
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: good for them, man.
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: Wow, that's cool.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: What about you?
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: You been in movies?
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: No, I just wrote a movie with– me and David
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: Spade wrote a movie together. He did, like, Tommy Boy,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: and you know who he is.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: Oh, sure.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: And so we wrote a movie, and I think we're
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: going to start making it on January 6th, actually.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: He was in Ghostbusters. Yeah, he was, dude.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: He was the black guy.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: With the glasses?
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Huh?
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: With the glasses.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: With the glasses.
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: And one arm. One arm, right? Yeah.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: That's who he was, dude.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: So I'm scared about it, but I think it's going
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: to happen. We worked on it for so long, and
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: now it's supposed to happen. Now I'm like, oh, I'm scared,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: you know?
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: That's natural. That's normal. Yeah.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I think, yeah, being scared of something, maybe that you
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: don't know how you can do at it or something.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: But we also have done it all ourselves, so it's like,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: so that feels good.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: You should talk to Billy Bob Thornton.
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I think what he did was Sling Blade. Oh, yeah.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: I'm about to call you the Sling Blade. Right? Yeah.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: Sling Blade.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: But they sat and did that. And Bizkits. ZZ Top
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: was out.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: And Bizkits.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Billy Top. I mean, Billy Top. ZZ Top was out
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: with us. And Billy Gibbons was telling about the editing
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: process after Billy Bob and all of them finished it up.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: And Dwight Yoakam.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. He was in it.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: He says, I go to this little apartment building in L.A.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: It's hot as hell. He says, I go up second floor. Right?
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: So I knock on the door, and he says, you know,
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: it kind of cracks open. And they go, ah, it's me,
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Billy Kelly. Oh, let me in. Come on, what are
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: you doing? So it's Dwight Yoakam, and they're all in
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: like their white wife beater T-shirts or whatever, sweating all
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: over the place, in there with old school hand editing
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: machines cutting sling blade.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: Doing all that. Wow. I bet he's a fascinating guy,
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: Billy Bob Thornton.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: And Dwight Yoakam. I've been working with him on a
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: Taylor Sheridan next series coming up with Landman, doing some
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: music stuff together. But it's just fun. It's fun. He's
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: got a band. He does? Oh, yeah, Billy Bob Thornton
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: has a band, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: I've known that for a long time. I've never gotten
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: to see him play, but I would probably enjoy it.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Have you seen it, Tim? Billy Bob Thornton's band? I
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: think they're going to be here in a while. I'd
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: love to go see them. I'm going to make a
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: point of that. They're coming before long. He told me
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: the other night.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: Yep, Boxmasters. That's it.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: Next month. They got their gig starting, opening for ZZ Top.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: Bill Hamm, their manager. And you guys opened for ZZ
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: Top at one point, right? Is that right?
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: Yeah, we co-headlined with them.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. That's what I meant. A long time.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Had a blast. Yeah. Ronnie, what about you?
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: What's something that you've enjoyed keeping your time with?
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: And when you have free time? I go out and
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: tinker at the farm a little bit. Still, you know,
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: I'm always writing songs or something, but I grabbed a
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: camera and a buddy of mine who had been a
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: 25-year photographer for Sports Illustrated moved back to town and
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: we hit it off. I'd just been to Cuba doing
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: some photography and playing around. And he said, show me
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: your stuff. And I did. And he says, okay, you're
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: going with me. So we took off for like a year,
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: year and a half, two years, shooting everything, Shine Rodeo,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: uh galapagos all over the place wow just yeah so you.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Really enjoyed it huh yeah do you sell any of
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: the prints i'd love to buy one at some point.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Uh yeah i'll give you all i'll give you all
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: you want i'd love to give you one but we
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: shot some great cowboy stuff did you awesome yeah i just.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Went to the pbr like two weeks ago when it
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: was here yeah um oh that was bull riding but
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I love rodeo.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Rodeo is one of the best.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: If you take your wife or kids out, you don't
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: know what to do with them. If there's a rodeo
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: within 40 miles. My parents used to do that.
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: It's a blast.
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: Have you been to the prison rodeo in Angola?
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: No, I'd love to go.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Have you been?
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: Dude, yes.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: Went just recently and actually played down there. You know
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: about the rodeo.
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: Yes, I know about it, dude.
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: It's unbelievable.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: Eight seconds for freedom, they call it. Yeah. For freedom.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: But it's six seconds.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: You know, the first event is called Busting Out.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: So, yeah, I've got a friend, Brianna Calhoun, who she
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: does prison reentry.
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: And we stayed at the warden's house. Oh, I want
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: to meet the warden. Oh, dude, he's fantastic.
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: Is he?
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: I want him on this show.
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: Yeah, we stayed up making gumbo and drinking beer about
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: 1 o'clock in the morning. But the rodeo, the first
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: event busting out, they put six prisoners on six bulls,
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: and they're PBR bulls. They're real bulls because they do
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: a PBR exhibit kind of thing there. put six guys
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: on it they release all six of them at the
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: same time of course the prisoners stay on for like
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: a tenth of a second and then it's all hell
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: breaks loose and every event at the rodeo is like
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: that there's One called Pinball, where they set up eight
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: hula hoops in the middle of the deal. Eight prisoners
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: stand in the hula hoops. They release two bulls on them,
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: and the last one in the hula hoop wins the prize.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: No, it's fantastic. You've got nothing to lose.
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: You've got to go.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: The prize is just a little bit of sunlight.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: You get two hours in the cage outside. You get
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: to use a harmonica for 10 minutes.
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: Right, right. Big time bragging rights. Get a ball to bounce.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: There were 96 volunteers this year, and it happens twice
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: a year.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: You should really go. It's unbelievable to watch.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: I didn't know you could just go.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Oh, it's like it's a 20,000-seat arena.
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: See, there it is.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: Look at them. That's it. That's pinball right there.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: I'm not kidding. What bull?
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: We got to go on this. That would be fascinating.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: This is the place where even the bulls are afraid
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: to come out. They ain't going out there.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: There it is. There's 20 lifers out there.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: That's amazing. I'd love to go to that.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I'm going to try to get to, I'd love to
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: interview the warden because it's a fascinating thing. There's not
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: another prison, I don't think, that does something as famous
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: as this.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: Look at this. Here you go.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: He's going to stay.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: Oh, man down.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: He's still got one in there.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: Man down.
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: He's walking. Yeah. He's a pinball wizard. He's like, no,
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: never mind.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: No, he left the station. Rodeo is so fun, man. Man,
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: the Cheyenne Rodeo, you get a press bunker where you're
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: ground level. And that's a big one, huh?
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: King Daddy of them all, they call it. Is it?
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: And there's another one that's real organic we went to.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: What's the name of that in Montana?
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: Mile City.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: And that's where they bring it. the breeders bring all
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: the rodeo stock in they have for, for years, years,
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: I mean, 50, 60 years, whatever to, uh, and people
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: watch them, these kids, local cowboy kids climb on these
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: horses and they'll ride. I mean, they used to run
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: 300 horses plus through a day. They ride them to
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: see how they buck. And then every now and then
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: they'll stop and have an auction. And then they, then
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: they go right back to it. About the end of
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: the day, These kids are back there in pickup trucks with, like,
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: liters of whiskey just. Just tuckered out. That move, man.
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: It beats them to death.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, a buddy of mine's daddy sells, I guess, horse
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: semen or whatever. I don't know what they call it
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: if you're a horse.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: Is it straws?
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: It's semen, and it is straws is how they sell them.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how much you can get.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I guess you can get a, I've never seen the
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: containers they put it in, but I know that they
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: mate with other horses, and they'll have lines of horses
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: coming up to mate with their horse all spring.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: Sure.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: He's like a madam or whatever.
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: You can't do.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: That with thoroughbreds, but quarter horses you can.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: For racing horses?
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Racing horses have.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: To be actually bred. The male's got to get on
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: the female.
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: Oh, you can't artificially inseminate them. Yeah, I think, yeah.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: I'd rather.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a part of the deal. They got to
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: watch it.
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: You can't be selling semen in the thoroughbred business because
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: it's so expensive. You know, I mean, this is a
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: secretariat semen or whatever.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: Can you prove it? You know, it's like.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Oh, hell, the Celsius is $ 3 a can. I can't
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: even imagine how much. They do it with everything. Wildlife,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: you know, deer, things like that. You name it, it's
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: all out there.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Did you guys ever get to play Asia? That's one
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: last question I was thinking. Did you guys ever?
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: What is Asia anyway?
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: That's random.
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: That's a good question. Asia is, I guess it's China, Vietnam.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: Thailand.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Thailand.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: Come on, give us some Asian countries.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Japan.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Japan, Korea. Korea, North and South.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: Malaysia. I think I said that better. Yeah, Malaysia again.
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: Maybe that's why they call it Asia.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Asia, yeah.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Malaysia.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Yeah, they just, yeah, it's a big. Sacramento.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Sacramento, yeah. But you guys, how far, I'm just curious
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: how far, because your music was like, has been a
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: fixture in my life, you know, and so many people
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: my age, but I just wonder like what other ethnicities
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: and stuff listen to.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: They've never heard of us. We did a thing for
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: Rock My World one year. It was a record company's
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: great idea. They came in with all these cue cards
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: and whatever. Every country, all the ones you just named,
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: everything you could think of, but phonetically how you would pronounce.
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: Our new song is called Rock My World. We would
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: love for you to like it in other parts of
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: the world.
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: You know, that kind of thing. And so Ronnie and I,
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: as stupid as we are, we're trying.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: We said yes.
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: We said yes.
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: And we're every language you can think of, you know,
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: from Japanese.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: And they had the cards and it sounded out.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, it sounded out for you.
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: My sister's got a home in Italy. My brother-in-law's like,
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: I'm over there watching a soccer game. He goes, and
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: your commercial came on in this bar in the break.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: He goes, and they shut the whole place down. He goes,
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: everybody's on the edge of their seat. They're looking loud,
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: and at the end of it, they go. so I
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: still have no idea what we said in Italian.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: Oh, look.
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: But it was probably some exorcist thing that makes your
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: head turn around.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: As long as there's some young Vietnamese kid sitting somewhere going, Yeah.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: That's what matters, man.
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: Okay. We might cut that part out. Cut, cut.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: The new album and the new tour, will they come
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: out simultaneously, or how does that kind of work?
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: Pretty close. I think the new album comes out in November.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: November the 15th.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and we start touring in February.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: Heavy stuff starts hitting in February. February, March, April. We're
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: going to stop for a minute. I think you're going
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: to go do your deal. I'm going to run to
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Africa and come back, and then we're going to pick
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: it up in June.
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: Run over there to Congo.
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: This guy, yeah.
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: I'll go down to Wentzburg and Covington.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll be over in Murfreesboro if you need us, dude.
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: He's down there. Well, not Murfreesboro, Smyrna.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: I mean, it's really Murfreesboro.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: Sorry, we'll go to Smyrna.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Gulfstream promised me they'd have it fixed by then, by plane,
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: so we got it. We're good. Anything else you guys
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: wanted to talk about? Something you also wanted to get
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: out there? No, we're selling that record right now. Reboot, too.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: You got to have it.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: You got to get it.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: It'll change your life.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Thanks for the hang, man.
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: Love watching your show and nonsense and everything. It's fun
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: and games.
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: I feel lucky to have a job, man. Really lucky
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: to talk to you guys. This has honestly been one
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: of my favorite episodes, I think.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: It really has.
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: You never said that before, right?
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: I've said it probably three times. Is that how he
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: closes every freaking show? Quick. He probably got back up.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: I got back up over here.
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: You guys made it so easy. And also, you guys
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: have such a good sense of humor, I think. Songs
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: you get with musicians and they don't talk.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: They don't. They're musicians. I remember Tom Petty would like
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: go and talk, chill, and not talk, right?
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: Freaking musicians. You know?
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: There's a reason why they handed him an instrument. Last
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: guy you wanted to do is have Tom Petty come
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: sit by you and do an interview with him, right?
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: I guess. All right. How's your voice? It's all right.
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: Bill Vassar told me I was interviewing him, you know,
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: doing the Countdown show.
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: And I said, so how'd you get to be such
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: a good piano player?
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: He goes, well, actually, I was a drummer when I
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: was a kid.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: I said, I've never heard you play drums.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: He goes, shit.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: When I was a kid, all I wanted was a
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: drum set. Christmas, I'd get a drum set. He goes,
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: I just beat on those drums relentlessly day and night, whatever.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: He goes, I got pretty good at it. I go,
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: what happened? He goes, I came home from school one
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: day and my drums were gone. There was a bicycle
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: sitting there where my drums used to be.
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: Shit, man.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: I go, what'd you do? He goes, rode my bicycle.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: I got real good at it.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that guy believes in himself too much.
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: Drums are gone.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: That's one of those guys. Rode it to Cincinnati.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, thank you guys so much, man.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: Thank you for all the years of wonderful music and entertainment.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: I'm going to come and check out one of the
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: shows on tour, man.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: I'm excited about it.
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: Please, come see us. I will.
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: We certainly will. Thank you guys so much. Great time, man.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: Fun stuff.
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: Really fun. Big fans.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: Now I'm just floating on the breeze And I feel
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: I'm falling like these leaves I must be cornerstone Oh,
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: but when I reach that ground I'll share this peace
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: of mind I found I can feel it in my
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: bones
