- 0:29SPEAKER_00: One of humanity's most enduring myths is the fountain of youth.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: For well over 2,000 years, people have fantasized and at times even searched for, a magical spring that would restore the youth of anyone who drank or bathed in it.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: The earliest appearance of this legend is from the Greek historian Herodotus writing in the 5th century BC.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Numerous other writers mention it over the centuries, but the fountain of youth gained true legendary status in the 16th century when it was attached to the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Since then it's appeared in books, movies, and other media, including the 1985 film Cocoon.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And why wouldn't we be obsessed with the magical fountain of youth?
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: The idea of getting back all the energy and vibrancy of your long lost youth is pretty appealing, we have to admit.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But while the legend of the fountain of youth may not be literally true, there is a way you can light up that creative spark that may have dimmed a bit over the last few years.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: This is the power of curiosity.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: As we get older, we naturally stop being curious.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: With each passing decade, we think we have life pretty much figured out.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: We don't expect any surprises.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: In fact, if we're not careful, we come to hate surprises.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: But is that any way to live?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Don't miss out on all the wonder and magic that life has to offer.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter how old you are, you're still alive, aren't you?
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: That means your purpose has not been completed.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: You're not dead yet, so why act like it?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: There's a million small ways to spark your curiosity every single day.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: You can take a hike or talk to a stranger.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: You can read a new book or start a new project.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: You can join a writing group or go to a play, do something, anything, to break out of your patterns and inject something new into your day.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Walt Disney was one of the most creative people who ever lived.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: He once said, We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things because we're curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: You don't need a fountain of youth to give you new life.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You just need to follow your curiosity.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: When you do, you might just be amazed at what happens.
