- 0:00Speaker 1: With Donald Trump's big news he has fired Homeland Security
- 0:04Speaker 1: Chief Christy Nome. This is the first cabinet member to
- 0:07Speaker 1: be ousted in this entire sometimes chaotic Trump's second term
- 0:12Speaker 1: as of today. It's a big one. Nom overseeing Trump's
- 0:15Speaker 1: immigration crackdown, which proved both unpopular, ineffective, and at times
- 0:20Speaker 1: lethal against Americans. Her tenure was also marked by widespread
- 0:26Speaker 1: reports from internal watchdogs like dar Inspector General within that department,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and independent reporting and accounts from people who worked for
- 0:34Speaker 1: her and with her of really erratic and troubled leadership there.
- 0:38Speaker 1: In other words, the policy issues or whether ICE was
- 0:41Speaker 1: working well. Even Donald Trump clearly wants to make some
- 0:44Speaker 1: visible change. And then there's the competence issues. Nicole's guests
- 0:49Speaker 1: and our other colleagues have covered this throughout today's breaking
- 0:52Speaker 1: news because there were a lot of problems inside that department,
- 0:55Speaker 1: criticism from Republicans today, the firing, and there's nomes chief adviser,
- 0:59Speaker 1: who was a long time Donald Trump campaign figure, Corey Lewandowski,
- 1:03Speaker 1: were told he's also leaving DHS along with her. From
- 1:06Speaker 1: this news today, Trump plans to nominate a Republican Senator
- 1:09Speaker 1: Mullen to replace her. And remember, we got here from protests.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We got here from independent reporting. We got here from
- 1:17Speaker 1: people risking life and limb quite literally to make their
- 1:20Speaker 1: own videos and evidence of what ICE was doing. That
- 1:23Speaker 1: all escalated in Minnesota when federal agents swarmed that particular
- 1:28Speaker 1: place in these sweeps, and then you saw the pushback
- 1:30Speaker 1: and protests around the country. The protests worked, The pushback worked,
- 1:35Speaker 1: but it did not come without problems along the way
- 1:38Speaker 1: that couldn't be stopped in time. Because while the protesters said, hey,
- 1:42Speaker 1: let's be careful and peaceful, it was Donald Trump's agents
- 1:46Speaker 1: who killed two Americans, Rene Good and Alex Petty. Gnome
- 1:50Speaker 1: also would not take accountability or apologize for falsely branding
- 1:56Speaker 1: those people as quote domestic terrorists.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It was an active domestic terrorism. What happened was our
- 2:05Speaker 2: ICE officers were out in an enforcement action. They got
- 2:08Speaker 2: stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that
- 2:10Speaker 2: is in Minneapolis. They were attempting to push out their
- 2:13Speaker 2: vehicle and a woman attacked them. This individual, who came
- 2:17Speaker 2: with weapons and ammunition to stop a law enforcement operation
- 2:20Speaker 2: of federal law enforcement officers, committed an active domestic terrorism.
- 2:24Speaker 3: That's the facts.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Those were not facts, those, as we've shown you in
- 2:28Speaker 1: our reporting, were false claims. Stamping that but showing you
- 2:30Speaker 1: that's one of the reasons that may have contributed to
- 2:32Speaker 1: her firing. Today. Trump's approval on immigration has been crashing.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It's underwater by thirteen. He recently skipped overnome at a
- 2:39Speaker 1: cabinet meeting, which was noticeable, and Republican senator again speaking
- 2:44Speaker 1: to one piece of this that I mentioned, the outright incompetence,
- 2:49Speaker 1: this Republican said her leadership was a disaster.
- 2:53Speaker 4: And what we've seen is a disaster under your leadership,
- 2:58Speaker 4: misnown a disaster. What we've seen is innocent people getting
- 3:03Speaker 4: detained that turn out our American citizens. I could talk
- 3:06Speaker 4: about the culture that's been created here with Steven Miller
- 3:10Speaker 4: aiding in a betting the fact that you can't admit
- 3:13Speaker 4: to a mistake, which looks like under investigation, it's going
- 3:16Speaker 4: to prove that miss Good and mister pretty probably should
- 3:19Speaker 4: not have been shot in the face and in the back.
- 3:21Speaker 4: We're an exceptional nation, and one of the reasons we're
- 3:25Speaker 4: exceptional is we expect exceptional leadership. And you've demonstrated anything
- 3:30Speaker 4: but that.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That was a recent Republican view Nome came to this
- 3:35Speaker 1: position from a history in politics, and many viewed her
- 3:38Speaker 1: efforts to do branding amidst the Homeland Security project as
- 3:43Speaker 1: a kind of political effort that apparently failed, or at
- 3:46Speaker 1: least failed with the public. When we talk about the
- 3:48Speaker 1: numbers in with Donald Trump ultimately ousting her today, critics
- 3:52Speaker 1: said some of her photo ops verged on the baroque
- 3:55Speaker 1: and grotesque. This one speaks for itself. Gnome also faced
- 4:01Speaker 1: bipartisan criticism over the DHS ads, which cost over two
- 4:06Speaker 1: hundred million dollars, featuring her.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Why do I love these wide open spaces? They remind
- 4:16Speaker 3: me of why our forefathers came here, not just for
- 4:19Speaker 3: its beauty, but for the freedom only America provides. I'm
- 4:23Speaker 3: Christino that freedom's a precious thing, and we defend it vigorously.
- 4:28Speaker 3: You cross the border illegally, we'll find you. But if
- 4:31Speaker 3: you come here the right way, your American dream can
- 4:34Speaker 3: be as big as these endless guys. From President Trump
- 4:38Speaker 3: and me, Welcome home.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Looks a lot like a campaign Adnome testified under oath,
- 4:43Speaker 1: Trump approved it. Trump disagrees, says it's not true. That's
- 4:47Speaker 1: between them. The Dclan punch Bowl reports he was so
- 4:50Speaker 1: angered that her future at DHS was at risk. Then
- 4:55Speaker 1: hours after that, what might have been the last straw
- 4:58Speaker 1: given them many substantive problems that led to Trump firing Note.
- 5:03Speaker 5: So I think at one level it is minor because
- 5:07Speaker 5: you know, this is a mere two hundred million dollars
- 5:09Speaker 5: as opposed to the four billion dollars that the President
- 5:12Speaker 5: is on record having enriched himself over the course of
- 5:14Speaker 5: the last year. But at the same time, this was
- 5:17Speaker 5: a huge mistake. When Congressman Swalloll was talking about the
- 5:22Speaker 5: demonstrations and democratic criticisms, I don't believe that actually moved
- 5:27Speaker 5: Trump at all. What happened, what moved him today was
- 5:31Speaker 5: precisely what you just showed, where she associated Trump with
- 5:35Speaker 5: this corrupt, you know ad thing that she did, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 5: at a one hundred and forty three million dollar contract
- 5:43Speaker 5: to a business that had been incorporated for eight days,
- 5:46Speaker 5: never had any experience, and was associated with one of
- 5:49Speaker 5: her subordinates. So that's what that's why Trump fired her.
- 5:54Speaker 5: I think it's a good lesson for Pam Bondy as
- 5:57Speaker 5: she goes up next week for the event to which
- 6:01Speaker 5: she's been subpoenaed on her efforts to withhold you know,
- 6:04Speaker 5: critical documents about Trump and his alleged rape of a
- 6:07Speaker 5: thirteen year old among other allegations from the Fstein disclosures
- 6:13Speaker 5: that she, you know, she better not blame the president
- 6:16Speaker 5: for any of those misdeeds. You know, she's going to
- 6:20Speaker 5: have to take that bullet herself.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you're drawing that connection to multiple scandals that go
- 6:26Speaker 1: to ethics, propriety and promises made. Trump and Bondie made
- 6:33Speaker 1: a lot of claims about what Epstein transparency would look
- 6:35Speaker 1: like that they've both clearly failed overall. When you widen out,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Gnome is the person carrying out a policy that a
- 6:43Speaker 1: lot of independence and moderates and some conservatives oppose as
- 6:47Speaker 1: well as obviously the left has been against them from
- 6:50Speaker 1: the beginning. If you look at the number here, you
- 6:53Speaker 1: have a majority against these tactics and a lot of
- 6:56Speaker 1: people saying he's gone too far on immigration.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Your thought there, so obviously he's gone too far and
- 7:03Speaker 5: great remember that they promised was to get rid of
- 7:06Speaker 5: the violent offenders, the people that were murderers and rapists
- 7:10Speaker 5: and violent criminals. Instead, what we've seen is, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 5: the vast, vast majority of people are gardeners, housekeepers, you know, cokes, dishwashers,
- 7:22Speaker 5: et cetera, et cetera. And very few of the people
- 7:25Speaker 5: actually deported or detained have a criminal have any criminal record.
- 7:30Speaker 5: So that's not what people voted for. Everybody wants the
- 7:32Speaker 5: border secure from violent offenders. But I think in America,
- 7:37Speaker 5: where you know, compassion, inclusion are virtues that got us
- 7:41Speaker 5: two hundred and fifty years of the world's deepest defection
- 7:45Speaker 5: and admiration, which we've sacrificed in the last year. I
- 7:49Speaker 5: think those are the virtues that I think most Americans
- 7:52Speaker 5: still hold whole deer. Now. I mean, I'm glad that
- 7:55Speaker 5: for certain that Ice Barbie and is no longer her,
- 8:00Speaker 5: and that she and little Landowski will uh not not
- 8:03Speaker 5: get back on the uh the d hs, uh you know,
- 8:09Speaker 5: sugar Shack plane in their time. But I think you'll
- 8:13Speaker 5: see Lewandowski back in in some fashion in the government.
- 8:16Speaker 5: He'll remember he's been He's been dismissed or fired multiple
- 8:19Speaker 5: times over the tenure of Trump's first term. In this term,
- 8:23Speaker 5: so I don't think his influences is going to be
- 8:26Speaker 5: gone forever, but I do think I do think Secretary
- 8:29Speaker 5: of nome is is done. I think that's good. It
- 8:32Speaker 5: could be uh a predicate to a couple of other terminations.
- 8:38Speaker 5: I think. I think Pam Bondi, of course is you know,
- 8:40Speaker 5: certainly worse than know him in the sense that the
- 8:43Speaker 5: damage that she has done to the rule of law.
- 8:46Speaker 5: But I I think we might see some changes there.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Hopefully we will. On the other hand, the replacements that
- 8:55Speaker 5: are likely don't bring a lot of confidence to people.
- 8:57Speaker 5: I think, you know, Mark Waynemullen, zero experience in law
- 9:01Speaker 5: enforcement or foreign affairs of the kind of most EHS
- 9:05Speaker 5: secretaries have had historically at a time where you know,
- 9:08Speaker 5: we were at Defcon five in terms of being at war,
- 9:11Speaker 5: we've got terrorists from you know, Iranian Hesboa or you know,
- 9:16Speaker 5: Iranian Kurds. You know, we've got we've got a lot
- 9:20Speaker 5: of problems that could potentially wreak havoc in the United
- 9:24Speaker 5: States and elsewhere.
