Tuscumbia, Alabama, missed out on this year’s back-to-school sales tax holiday because of a January email glitch that prevented them from officially opting in — leaving families without the chance to save on school supplies. The city’s council only discovered the oversight after a member raised the issue, but it was too late to call a special meeting. To prevent future mishaps, they’re now drafting a new ordinance to automatically waive their 4% sales tax during the third week of July — as long as the state’s holiday continues.
