- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark Simone on sevent tenor.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, it's could be a beautiful day to day. It's well,
- 0:11Speaker 2: if you like a real hot summer day, it's going
- 0:13Speaker 2: to be a beautiful day. It's going to be I'll
- 0:15Speaker 2: let you get near ninety to day, really hot. And
- 0:18Speaker 2: then the rest of the week and the weekend, lots
- 0:20Speaker 2: of sunshine's gonna be really nice. Make up for last weekend.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Little little rain maybe in a couple of areas tonight,
- 0:27Speaker 2: maybe late Friday night, but that's about it. So, you know,
- 0:32Speaker 2: this Ice detention center in New Jersey, Democrats now trying
- 0:37Speaker 2: to make it, weaponize it, make it a big political issue.
- 0:40Speaker 2: You know, the problem was Christy Nome just publicized the
- 0:45Speaker 2: hell out of Ice. It's an unpleasant thing having to
- 0:48Speaker 2: arrest these illegals and deport them and get them out
- 0:50Speaker 2: of there and detain them. And it's necessary, it's the
- 0:53Speaker 2: right thing to do. You can't have all these illegals
- 0:55Speaker 2: running around. Many of them become criminals and all of that.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Many of them don't, but you know the ones that do,
- 1:02Speaker 2: you start there and you got to get him out
- 1:04Speaker 2: of the country. But it's an unpleasant thing to do.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You don't want to have to do it. I mean,
- 1:10Speaker 2: so you do it quietly, you know, as Tom Holman.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Tom Holman's been doing this for years. He was doing
- 1:15Speaker 2: it under Obama for eight years. You never heard of him,
- 1:18Speaker 2: you never saw him, because he knows do it quietly.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Christy Nome is, you know, making headlines with it, publicizing it,
- 1:27Speaker 2: showing it, instagramming it, showing up with a helmet and
- 1:33Speaker 2: combat geara you keep it quiet, just do it quietly.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So they got rid of That's one reason they got
- 1:39Speaker 2: to rid of Christi Nome, just to tone this whole
- 1:41Speaker 2: thing down. So it's going on very quietly. You never
- 1:44Speaker 2: would have known that there's a detention center in New Jersey,
- 1:47Speaker 2: but that crazy left wing governor Mikey Cheryl and some
- 1:51Speaker 2: others what's his name Menendez his kid want to make
- 1:55Speaker 2: an issue out of it. So they're barricading, screaming and yelling.
- 2:00Speaker 2: They want to see the facility. Why won't you let
- 2:03Speaker 2: us in? Why won't you let us see it? Now
- 2:05Speaker 2: they're all lying. Meninda's actually had a tour of it
- 2:07Speaker 2: days before. Doesn't admit to that. Mikey Cheryl, the governor,
- 2:11Speaker 2: could see it anytime she wants. You call up Ice.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You make arrangements for them to bring you in and
- 2:16Speaker 2: show you around. You don't just show up with a
- 2:18Speaker 2: mob screaming at the front gate. That's not how you
- 2:21Speaker 2: do it. So there's protesters. They've ginned this up so
- 2:24Speaker 2: that there's protesters outside the Ice Detention Center. Fox News
- 2:28Speaker 2: sends a reporter to cover the protest outside the Ice Center.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And you know, these crazy left wingers, if they see
- 2:35Speaker 2: a Fox logo on the microphone, they go nuts and
- 2:39Speaker 2: they this group started cursing. This is live on television.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Fox News Reporter Live, and they're cursing, saying every disgusting
- 2:47Speaker 2: four letter word. Listen to the reporter.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And so the other situation because there's people like this.
- 2:52Speaker 3: You are a protester who has been out here and
- 2:54Speaker 3: you have a dirty mouth. But okay, so that's just
- 2:58Speaker 3: what we deal with. So just for people that want,
- 3:00Speaker 3: I know what it's like to cover these protests, it's
- 3:01Speaker 3: constant with this. This is what these people do. They
- 3:03Speaker 3: want people who are in this country illegally to be
- 3:07Speaker 3: red out onto the streets. It just says that's what
- 3:10Speaker 3: they're gonna not.
- 3:15Speaker 2: We had a bleep. Most of words. You heard the
- 3:16Speaker 2: word nazi in there, but pretty ugly stuff. So President
- 3:21Speaker 2: Trump another big night last night. All of the people
- 3:23Speaker 2: he can't stand got voted out. Cornn lost badly. As
- 3:29Speaker 2: you heard earlier, two hundred and fifty four counties in Texas.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Cornon won two of them, actually one and a half.
- 3:38Speaker 2: One's not a real county, one only has a couple
- 3:40Speaker 2: hundred people in it. Al Green got tossed out. He's
- 3:43Speaker 2: that angry, nasty congressman. Remember he's the one that cursed
- 3:48Speaker 2: and screamed and yelled during the State of the Union.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Al Green the Congress is the bad al Green. You
- 3:53Speaker 2: know how he car was on last hour He pointed
- 3:54Speaker 2: out he might be right that the reason Algreen originally
- 3:58Speaker 2: got elected it's the name Algreene. They might have thought
- 4:02Speaker 2: it's so, but it's not. It's a different to Algren.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It's a bad Algreen. So this mom Donnie's scheme. First,
- 4:11Speaker 2: he's got the supermarket scheme. Remember he said thirty million
- 4:14Speaker 2: for the supermarket. If you ask the big supermarket chains,
- 4:18Speaker 2: Cristiiti's or Wegman's or any of them, there's a million
- 4:23Speaker 2: supermarket chains. Stagustina's. Yeah, they all know what they're doing.
- 4:25Speaker 2: They'll tell you how much is it to open and
- 4:27Speaker 2: build a supermarket. They'll tell you two million bucks, Mam Donnie,
- 4:32Speaker 2: spending thirty million. Now it turns out it's another twenty
- 4:35Speaker 2: five million that's already been thrown in there for the
- 4:38Speaker 2: area around the supermarket. Now it's a whole scheme. It's
- 4:41Speaker 2: a crazy scheme. I remember this, mom, Donnie. Besides being
- 4:45Speaker 2: a wacko socialist, he's just a college kid. We'd never
- 4:48Speaker 2: had a job, never worked, never run anything, never managed anything.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Doesn't just totally illogical about everything. So this uh supermarket
- 4:58Speaker 2: for low income people, for poor people who can't pay
- 5:02Speaker 2: the regular prices. It's going to The idea is they'll
- 5:04Speaker 2: sell everything cheap. And the way they're going to do
- 5:07Speaker 2: that the supermarket is a government supermarket, so they'll pay
- 5:10Speaker 2: no rent, no taxes, and that way they could sell
- 5:13Speaker 2: it cheaper. Well, instead of trying to build supermarkets, if
- 5:17Speaker 2: we want you to just take supermarkets in the low
- 5:19Speaker 2: income neighborhoods and arrange for them to have no property
- 5:23Speaker 2: tax and no rent, and in exchange for that, they'll
- 5:26Speaker 2: cut the price simpler. And in their professional supermarket people,
- 5:30Speaker 2: they know how to run the stuff, they know how
- 5:32Speaker 2: to get inventory and supply and all. They know how
- 5:34Speaker 2: to run a supermarket. But uh, Mom, Donnie doesn't think
- 5:38Speaker 2: that way, so he's going to try to do it himself. Now,
- 5:41Speaker 2: this is a supermarket for very low income people. He
- 5:45Speaker 2: is spending a lot of money in these supermarkets to
- 5:48Speaker 2: put in electric charging stations outside for the electric cars. Now,
- 5:53Speaker 2: there's nothing more expensive than electric car. Electric car costs
- 5:56Speaker 2: much more than a regular car. Why he would think
- 6:00Speaker 2: these are people you know, on welfare on this and that,
- 6:03Speaker 2: Why he would think these people would own electric cars
- 6:06Speaker 2: living in the middle of Manhattan or in the middle
- 6:10Speaker 2: of the Bronx. They don't own electric cars. You don't
- 6:13Speaker 2: need the charging stations. Now, his other scheme is do
- 6:18Speaker 2: something about these landlords. If you're a bad landlord, if
- 6:22Speaker 2: your building is neglected too many complaints, they'll government will
- 6:25Speaker 2: take over the building Hill he said, Well, they'll put
- 6:29Speaker 2: it in the hands of a union or a tenants
- 6:31Speaker 2: union or receiver. Well, it's basically the government taken over
- 6:35Speaker 2: the building. Here's Mandani.
- 6:38Speaker 4: When necessary, we will take aggressive legal action to remove
- 6:41Speaker 4: negligent owners and property managers. And for buildings that have
- 6:48Speaker 4: suffered chronic neglect, we will work to transfer ownership to
- 6:52Speaker 4: responsible stewards.
- 6:55Speaker 2: That sounds good, doesn't it. Well, remember he's a communist.
- 6:58Speaker 2: He's a socialist communist. What's it really about. It's what
- 7:02Speaker 2: communists do, seizing private property, seizing private business. So you
- 7:08Speaker 2: might have a very very bad landlord. But this is
- 7:11Speaker 2: the idea, is that the government, the government will seize
- 7:16Speaker 2: the property and take it over. That's pretty good. We
- 7:19Speaker 2: have two visitors entering the studio. Now. The bible of
- 7:23Speaker 2: talk radio is Barrett Media, not just talk radio, music radio,
- 7:28Speaker 2: sports radio. It's like the media website Barrett Media. In
- 7:34Speaker 2: here is Jason Barrett and Stephanie Eads who they both
- 7:37Speaker 2: run Barrett Media. They see the posters two years in
- 7:42Speaker 2: a row, I won number one show in America. We
- 7:45Speaker 2: have both of them blown up and they're on the
- 7:47Speaker 2: walls here. And Jason, you want to say a few
- 7:51Speaker 2: words over there? Do these microphones actually work? We have
- 7:55Speaker 2: like seven microphones here. I don't know if they've ever
- 7:57Speaker 2: been turned on. So you are the number one media
- 8:02Speaker 2: website of the audio business. And you guys are in
- 8:06Speaker 2: New York. Oh you went to Patsy's last night, right?
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah? It was great, fantastic recommendation.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's excellent.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Did get it from the guy who also calls us
- 8:15Speaker 1: the Bible of talk radio. You're the audience of one
- 8:18Speaker 1: we appreciated.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Media and sports radio, music radio. You're doing a big
- 8:24Speaker 2: convention in July, right, June thirtieth, July, second major, major
- 8:30Speaker 2: convention here in New York. And who are some of
- 8:33Speaker 2: the speakers. You got Adam Carolla, you got.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Corolla, Buck Sexton, Jimmy Fayla, this guy named Mark Simone.
- 8:39Speaker 1: We've got a bunch in the news talk world that
- 8:41Speaker 1: are going to be in the room. We've got the
- 8:43Speaker 1: CEO of Audissey. We've got a bunch of program directors,
- 8:48Speaker 1: market managers, talent all over the place.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it's every major talk radio host in the world
- 8:54Speaker 2: all in one room. Try to get a word in.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. You got to wear ear must.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That's the challenge. When you've got forty minutes and three
- 9:03Speaker 1: or four people, there's not enough time to get into things.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Yeah. You had it in New York last year at
- 9:07Speaker 2: a theater. Now you got to move so much bigger theater. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 2: it's good.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah that we're we'll be at the SBA Theater. It's
- 9:12Speaker 1: on West twenty third Street. And if you really want
- 9:16Speaker 1: to follow not just talk radio, music radio, sports radio.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Also you've got great coverage of TV and Colbert going off.
- 9:23Speaker 1: That's that kind of stuff. Just go to Barrett Media
- 9:25Speaker 1: two rs to teas right yep, Barrettmedia dot com and
- 9:30Speaker 1: start following it every day. It's a great, great website,
- 9:33Speaker 1: Barrettmedia dot com. You learn a lot. You won't need
- 9:37Speaker 1: all those stupid old Hollywood Reporter. Yeah, what was up
- 9:42Speaker 1: with that? I know we talked to you for How
- 9:45Speaker 1: did they do a list on most influential in New
- 9:48Speaker 1: York in media and not have anybody from the entire
- 9:52Speaker 1: audio or radio industry.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's unbelievable, the Hollywood Reporter, it's a bunch of elitists,
- 9:58Speaker 2: out of touch LA people. The most influential people in
- 10:01Speaker 2: New York. They had, like somebody from New York Magazine,
- 10:03Speaker 2: which has twelve readers. They had people nobody's ever heard of.
- 10:07Speaker 1: The guy who runs iHeart Bob Pittman cut a deal
- 10:12Speaker 1: with Netflix, is generating massive global reach for the entire industry.
- 10:17Speaker 1: He's based here, and that guy's not on the list,
- 10:20Speaker 1: or Charlemagne the guy right, I know, I'm looking at
- 10:23Speaker 1: the list, going how like you could debate should it
- 10:26Speaker 1: be Charlemagne, should it be Bob Pittman, should have Howard?
- 10:29Speaker 1: None of them on the list?
- 10:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so it'd be like the NPR guy with twelve
- 10:33Speaker 2: listeners who whispers like this, and then no Elvis Durant
- 10:36Speaker 2: who has like ten million listeners, Charlemage who has ten
- 10:39Speaker 2: million listeners, or go upstairs that Buck Sexton ten million listeners.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Sean Hannity sixteen million listeners.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Hey, just to explain everybody, radio is there's some illusion
- 10:52Speaker 2: out there who radio is dying? Nobody listens An not
- 10:54Speaker 2: the case.
- 10:55Speaker 1: No, it's not the case. Here's the deal. Radio is
- 10:58Speaker 1: more than just radio now. It's offered everywhere. It's the
- 11:01Speaker 1: content you're creating here right now that is going to
- 11:04Speaker 1: be in video, it's going to be in podcasts, it's
- 11:06Speaker 1: going to be in written form. And so there's never
- 11:08Speaker 1: been a better time to be an audio period. It's
- 11:11Speaker 1: just that it gets picked up in a lot of
- 11:13Speaker 1: different places. And because there's so much competition now, there's
- 11:17Speaker 1: more people creating audio than ever before. So because of that,
- 11:21Speaker 1: people might listen to you for an hour, whereas before
- 11:23Speaker 1: they listen for an hour and a half. Okay, but
- 11:25Speaker 1: there's more people listening to you for an hour now
- 11:27Speaker 1: than there are people that in the past. We're listening
- 11:30Speaker 1: for an hour and a half, so there's more interest
- 11:33Speaker 1: and content period. It's just that oftentimes the industry just
- 11:37Speaker 1: gets this negative rap and I don't think as an
- 11:40Speaker 1: industry we've done the best job at combating that. So
- 11:43Speaker 1: that's why we do. What we do is to say, hey, listen,
- 11:46Speaker 1: there's you know, you just brought up all the examples
- 11:49Speaker 1: of Hannity's audience Charltmage's audio. Millions of people are listening
- 11:53Speaker 1: to this every day. Go on the roadway in New
- 11:55Speaker 1: York City during afternoon drive traffic, and tell me that
- 11:58Speaker 1: people don't have a radio on.
- 12:00Speaker 2: They all do.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It's just that unfortunately it doesn't get its due. And
- 12:05Speaker 1: video is such a it's an enticing format and medium
- 12:10Speaker 1: to a lot of advertisers, and that's what it's about.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's all about the advertising component. That's why these stories
- 12:16Speaker 1: come out. Everybody's just trying to keep ad rates down.
- 12:19Speaker 2: One hundred and fifty nine million people listen to the
- 12:21Speaker 2: radio every day. Sixty three million listen to AM radio
- 12:24Speaker 2: every day, so they'll tell you no one listens television
- 12:28Speaker 2: network Television twenty five million and dropping. So, hey, Stephen Colbert,
- 12:34Speaker 2: you've been covering him. Just announced a YouTube channel. That's
- 12:39Speaker 2: not an indication that nobody wanted to hire him. Wouldn't
- 12:41Speaker 2: you assume if he was anything that would bring in
- 12:44Speaker 2: any revenue? Netflix, somebody would have come to him, HBO.
- 12:47Speaker 1: To be fair, I don't know his contractual situation, So
- 12:52Speaker 1: would a Netflix and Amazon, would a News Nation? Would
- 12:56Speaker 1: someone else hire him? Probably? Also, what does it cost
- 13:00Speaker 1: if they were losing forty million dollars on the show
- 13:02Speaker 1: and had a staff of two hundred people. Maybe people
- 13:05Speaker 1: don't want to put all those resources into it. And
- 13:07Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't want to do a show if he
- 13:09Speaker 1: doesn't have enough resource. So, and I also understand he's
- 13:13Speaker 1: trying to strike while the irons hot. If you are
- 13:15Speaker 1: going to need six to twelve months to deal with
- 13:17Speaker 1: legal stuff to go do content, you just go to
- 13:20Speaker 1: YouTube tomorrow and start doing it right. So we'll see
- 13:23Speaker 1: how it plays out. I got to believe somebody will
- 13:26Speaker 1: be interested in working with them. At what level at you?
- 13:30Speaker 1: At what cost?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Is it effective? Like?
- 13:32Speaker 1: Those are going to be the big.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Questions yeah, daft at two hundred. Look at our control room.
- 13:36Speaker 2: How many people work? You got two too, and they're
- 13:39Speaker 2: not even listening. That's how it is in most stations. Yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 2: I mean there was one engineer here every time I
- 13:46Speaker 2: was taught. He's laughing, laughing, boy, he was he laughing.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I go in there, I see he's watching a movie
- 13:50Speaker 2: that had nothing to do with me. So anyway, hey,
- 13:53Speaker 2: we'll take some calls next. Jason Barrett, everybody, and Stephanie
- 13:56Speaker 2: Eads thanks for being here. Everybody. Check out Barrett Media.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You'll want to read it every day Green really interested
- 14:03Speaker 2: Media Radio, Barrettmedia dot Com. We'll take some calls next.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten. Eight hundred
- 14:12Speaker 2: three two one zero seven ten
