Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This mediated podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:16Speaker 1: new Heart, and today we're joined by Janice Potlis Brodie Henderson,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Seth Morris, Rick Haughton, Corty Caulkins, Maggie Smith, Max Barta
- 0:24Speaker 1: and Hansi Dershermayer. This is a ten round quiz show
- 0:28Speaker 1: with questions from meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:31Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there's a prize. Meat Eater will
- 0:35Speaker 1: donate five dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Each week here on meat Eator Trivia, we reveal a
- 0:43Speaker 1: new stat this week. We're looking at the average length
- 0:47Speaker 1: of episodes with and without Steve. A few listeners have
- 0:51Speaker 1: pointed out to me that episodes with Steve tend to
- 0:54Speaker 1: be longer, so I had to look for myself. Here's
- 0:56Speaker 1: how the data breaks down. After more than forty five episode,
- 1:00Speaker 1: shows with Steve are on average forty four point one minute,
- 1:04Speaker 1: while episodes without Steve are forty point eight minutes. That's
- 1:07Speaker 1: a three point three minute difference, meaning that episodes with
- 1:10Speaker 1: Steve tend to be eight percent longer, So they're complaining
- 1:14Speaker 1: because they don't want to live like I don't like.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's not a complaint, it's just an observation that folks have.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So I need everyone in the room to turn up
- 1:21Speaker 1: their banter like ten percent, and then maybe we'll make
- 1:24Speaker 1: up for Steve not being Does this mean did you
- 1:27Speaker 1: already do this? Staff? Does it mean that he winds
- 1:30Speaker 1: three minutes per episode? Or some Some might say I'm
- 1:34Speaker 1: not gonna I'm not gonna say that. There's also an
- 1:37Speaker 1: element to I thought you looked up like he dominates
- 1:42Speaker 1: that category. He's throwing out a lot of fact toys
- 1:45Speaker 1: and stuff. It's it's sometimes good banter. Also, in Steve's defense,
- 1:49Speaker 1: we usually have the podcast guest here when Steve is
- 1:52Speaker 1: on the show, which introduces a little more banter on
- 1:55Speaker 1: that end. So it's not just all all Steve, but
- 1:58Speaker 1: everybody just needs to crank up their banter like ten percent,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and then we'll make up the difference. Can you do
- 2:04Speaker 1: that for me? Suck at Spencer. Here's some banther. You
- 2:07Speaker 1: said Hans's last name wrong? Correct me? How did I say?
- 2:12Speaker 1: And what's the right way? Dershermeyer is how you said it?
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's Deshremeyer, just as Spencer to say jaguar. Oh, I
- 2:23Speaker 1: want to hear this jaguar. So it's natural that you just,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you know, kind of ignore faneticism. I just mess everything.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What what percentage of folks mess up your last name
- 2:34Speaker 1: as opposed to getting it right? It's like it's like
- 2:38Speaker 1: but yeah, but like there's a hard right no, it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: not no, and but there's a certain like that say
- 2:44Speaker 1: it and then they're like, I got it, didn't. I like,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'm going to give them a prize for pronouncing my
- 2:50Speaker 1: name correctly. I have these little gift cards in my
- 2:53Speaker 1: back past, just here for you. I caught a lot
- 2:56Speaker 1: of hell a couple episodes ago for pronouncing um the
- 3:00Speaker 1: state where Denver is a certain way, and we got
- 3:03Speaker 1: a lot of feedback pertaining to my pronunciation versus Steve's pronunciation.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Will cover that on a future episode, though, how can
- 3:11Speaker 1: you bring that up and not talk about We'll get
- 3:12Speaker 1: to it on a future episode. I have a linguist
- 3:14Speaker 1: that I need to treat talking about I think there's
- 3:19Speaker 1: only one way to pronounce that. What is it? Colorado? Okay,
- 3:24Speaker 1: we will will cover it. Colorado will cover it off
- 3:27Speaker 1: on a future episodes. Now we have some housekeeping to
- 3:32Speaker 1: get to before we play. In a previous game of trivia,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I asked players to name one of the seven states
- 3:38Speaker 1: that don't allow the use of dogs to blood track
- 3:41Speaker 1: wounded Big Game. The answer, which I got from United
- 3:44Speaker 1: Blood Trackers dot Org, was Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon, Nevada,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and Arizona. But it turns out that was wrong, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: every hunter from Washington reached out to let me know.
- 3:56Speaker 1: In June of Washington made it legal to use a
- 3:59Speaker 1: lead dog to blood trail Big Game within seventy two
- 4:03Speaker 1: hours of the shot. This does not apply to bear
- 4:06Speaker 1: or cougar though, so that means that there are now
- 4:09Speaker 1: just six states left we're using blood trailing dogs is
- 4:13Speaker 1: illegal now. Cameraman Lauren Moulton did give Washington as an answer,
- 4:18Speaker 1: which as we now know, is incorrect, but he was
- 4:21Speaker 1: not in the running to win the show or beat
- 4:23Speaker 1: the other cameraman, so it didn't change the outcome of
- 4:27Speaker 1: the game. Washington made it legal last year to blood
- 4:31Speaker 1: trail Big Game. Those other six states need to get
- 4:33Speaker 1: on it. They're all confused in Washington. No, buddy, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: just don't know what to do in that state. Also
- 4:41Speaker 1: on a previous show, we had a question about Maryland
- 4:44Speaker 1: being the only state without any natural lakes, which inspired
- 4:48Speaker 1: Brody to ask what the technical differences between a pond
- 4:52Speaker 1: and a lake. Here's what I found. There's no agreed
- 4:55Speaker 1: upon distinction between the two, but most limnologists use the
- 4:59Speaker 1: rule that a pond becomes a lake when it gets
- 5:02Speaker 1: deep enough where sunlight can't reach the bottom. So it's
- 5:05Speaker 1: not about surface area, it's about depth. Then how can
- 5:09Speaker 1: there like, how can you have a definitive answer for
- 5:12Speaker 1: that question? The Maryland I I don't remember who managed
- 5:16Speaker 1: that round by like one point, I don't remember. It's
- 5:19Speaker 1: the Maryland d and are Maryland game in parks whatever
- 5:21Speaker 1: it is? They're even the ones who like put this
- 5:24Speaker 1: stat out there. UM so their own like game management
- 5:26Speaker 1: agency UM agrees that they don't have any natural lakes.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You're gonna have to take it up with them on
- 5:33Speaker 1: on the pond versus like distinction. What was that word?
- 5:36Speaker 1: You unlogists that somebody who studies water I believe took
- 5:41Speaker 1: a class in that in college. Would you learn I
- 5:44Speaker 1: mean about fresh water? Did you go to college in Minnesota? Yes,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I did. It's got to be a good place to
- 5:51Speaker 1: That's great. Now. The Shelby index for this round is
- 5:55Speaker 1: a four, so our winner should get about eight correct answers,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and with that we're onto the game. Name of trivia,
- 6:00Speaker 1: play the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what
- 6:05Speaker 1: I stayd to win everything? How's that? Just tend to
- 6:10Speaker 1: win everything? Question one? The topic is biology. This first
- 6:24Speaker 1: great question comes to us via Michelle Buckley. If you
- 6:27Speaker 1: have a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 6:32Speaker 1: dot com. Which of these animals is known to develop limbertail?
- 6:38Speaker 1: Is it ducks, dogs, white tailed deer, or beaver? Say
- 6:44Speaker 1: that word again. Which of these animals is known to
- 6:47Speaker 1: develop limbertail? Is it ducks, dogs, white tailed deer, or beaver? Limbertail?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Four choices ducks, dogs, white tailed yr and beaver. Nobody
- 7:01Speaker 1: was writing before I gave the choices. Um, so, folks
- 7:05Speaker 1: look confident, but not that confident limbertail? Does everybody have
- 7:11Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 7:15Speaker 1: Max saying dogs, Rick saying dogs, Brody saying beaver, Hansi, Maggie,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Corey Seth and the honest all saying dogs. So the
- 7:24Speaker 1: only outliers Brody saying beaver that the correct answer is dogs.
- 7:32Speaker 1: This is also known as cold tail, swimmer's tail, or
- 7:36Speaker 1: broken wag. It's a muscle sprain that causes a limp
- 7:39Speaker 1: tail and takes about a week to heal. It's often
- 7:42Speaker 1: the result of excessive tail use in cold or wet conditions,
- 7:46Speaker 1: or from being in a crate for too long. For
- 7:49Speaker 1: more on this condition, read our article on the meat
- 7:51Speaker 1: eator dot com called cold Weather Bird Dog concerns. Now,
- 7:54Speaker 1: all you dog owners in the room who has seen
- 7:57Speaker 1: broken weag? I have, I definitely have. Now my dog
- 8:00Speaker 1: doesn't have a tail. So how my dog's tails too short? Yeah?
- 8:07Speaker 1: It looks painful for honestly, a happy dog that can't
- 8:09Speaker 1: wag his tail without waking its tail. Really, Yeah, my
- 8:13Speaker 1: dog gets depressed. It happens to him a lot actually
- 8:16Speaker 1: from what playing in the snow somehow, like if he's
- 8:19Speaker 1: bounding through the snow, I don't know, to pull something
- 8:21Speaker 1: back there? Does it take about a week to heal then? Yeah?
- 8:25Speaker 1: And for a week it just is it like a
- 8:26Speaker 1: dislocated tail. It's just like a muscle sprain. Yeah, and
- 8:30Speaker 1: he'll just like his tail tucked through his legs, and
- 8:33Speaker 1: you see it a lot with water because they used
- 8:35Speaker 1: their tail as like a rotor a little bit too
- 8:37Speaker 1: when they're swimming muskrats. Brody starts out, for one, why
- 8:42Speaker 1: do you why do you got to point that out?
- 8:46Speaker 1: Another way you can get it, Minga's guy. This way
- 8:48Speaker 1: is he jumped out of the truck when the truck
- 8:50Speaker 1: was doing probably twenty five or thirty, and I did
- 8:52Speaker 1: a couple of summersaults and out into the stage brush.
- 8:55Speaker 1: If that's the worst that came out of that experience
- 8:58Speaker 1: that it seems a little bit of blood in his
- 9:00Speaker 1: uh stool, you know. So it wasn't great. We were scared.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But was there a cat track that he got excited about.
- 9:09Speaker 1: We don't know. We don't know. We're just cruising along
- 9:12Speaker 1: and out he went. He hasn't done that since. Question
- 9:17Speaker 1: to the topic is fishing. According to NPR, this is
- 9:23Speaker 1: television's longest running program event ever, which is dedicated to
- 9:28Speaker 1: correcting misconceptions about dangerous fish. According to NPR, this is
- 9:35Speaker 1: television's longest running programming event ever, which is dedicated to
- 9:40Speaker 1: correcting misconceptions about dangerous fish. Is this show still on.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm not gonna give any hints. A quick answer from Max,
- 9:49Speaker 1: not so much. Quick one more time here. According to NPR,
- 9:55Speaker 1: this is television's longest running programming event ever, which is
- 10:00Speaker 1: dedicated to correcting misconceptions about dangerous fish. Max, you think
- 10:06Speaker 1: you got this one. I don't know. This is the
- 10:09Speaker 1: only thing I could think of. Rest of the room
- 10:13Speaker 1: starting to come up with some answers. I don't like
- 10:15Speaker 1: these questions about watching TV. Man, I'm with it. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: only make it. I don't watch it. Yeah, only make it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Don't watch television's longest event ever. Does everybody have an answer?
- 10:32Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Max saying
- 10:36Speaker 1: river monsters, Rick saying NPR Fish Show, Brodie saying Shark Week,
- 10:41Speaker 1: hans He saying dangerous fish, Maggie without an answer, Corey
- 10:44Speaker 1: saying deadliest Catch, Seth saying dangerous fish, and Janice saying
- 10:49Speaker 1: shark Week. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It is Shark Week. Since nine seven. Shark Week has
- 10:57Speaker 1: been put on by the Discovery Channel every summer. It's
- 11:00Speaker 1: considered the best conservation movement on their behalf. Hosts of
- 11:04Speaker 1: the programming event have included Less Stroud, Shaquille O'Neal, micro,
- 11:09Speaker 1: Andy Sandberg, and Dwayne the Rock Johnson. It was in there,
- 11:13Speaker 1: wasn't it in your head? That answer? Didn't they make? Yeah?
- 11:17Speaker 1: I've never watched one second of Shark Week, but I
- 11:22Speaker 1: wasn't there thing a few years ago where they made
- 11:24Speaker 1: Tyson jump in a shark cage or something and he
- 11:27Speaker 1: was freaking out. They they've they've kind of moved a
- 11:30Speaker 1: little bit away from their ethos of like making educational
- 11:33Speaker 1: content a spectacle. Yeah, and then they had a new
- 11:37Speaker 1: CEO that took over like a few years ago, said
- 11:39Speaker 1: no more of that stuff. Um. Like they made some
- 11:43Speaker 1: some movie I think that was adjacent to Shark Nado,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and they had like Michael Phelps race a shark um.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So it really devolved. Now it's coming back to where
- 11:51Speaker 1: they once were. Good Question three. Question three The topic
- 11:55Speaker 1: is conservation. This is our listener question of the Week,
- 11:58Speaker 1: which was won by John Honeycut for sending this great question,
- 12:02Speaker 1: John is going to get a one year premium subscription
- 12:05Speaker 1: to on X. If you want a chance to win
- 12:07Speaker 1: our on X Listener Question of the Week, then send
- 12:09Speaker 1: your question to Trivia at the Meat eater dot com.
- 12:14Speaker 1: America's largest amphibian, which is sometimes called the devil dog,
- 12:18Speaker 1: is considered a threatened species. What is it? America's largest amphibian,
- 12:26Speaker 1: which is sometimes called the devil dog, is considered a
- 12:30Speaker 1: threatened species. What is it? Brody with the quickest answer
- 12:36Speaker 1: in there, Brody, you know this one? Well, I got
- 12:39Speaker 1: it written down. We'll see if I decide to change
- 12:41Speaker 1: it if anything else coops up, Brody, I think I
- 12:44Speaker 1: beat you. Actually, Oh Meggie, Maggie, Maggie, you know this one.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Let Spencer have it. You know he's focused too much
- 12:51Speaker 1: on me. That's right. The limnology trying to fill in
- 12:54Speaker 1: for Steve's banter because I normally don't talk on these.
- 12:57Speaker 1: America's largest amphibian, which is sometimes called the devil dog,
- 13:02Speaker 1: is considered a threatened I got all kinds of questions
- 13:05Speaker 1: about the world largest to what is it? I'm thinking
- 13:08Speaker 1: devil dogging. I think bye bye weight really, but I
- 13:16Speaker 1: think by every measurement it's the largest. America's largest amphibian,
- 13:24Speaker 1: which is sometimes called the devil dog, is considered a
- 13:27Speaker 1: threatened species. What is it? A few more folks coming
- 13:31Speaker 1: up with answers, but much of the room looks stumped.
- 13:35Speaker 1: It's just the devil dog that's stumping me. Well, forget
- 13:39Speaker 1: about that part, then, Max, just what is America's largest?
- 13:43Speaker 1: Does that help you know? Um? Johnny, I have three
- 13:50Speaker 1: answers written down. That's how confident I show up to me.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Let's see what you're working with. A you're gonna pick one.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Did you look down or did you look up? I
- 14:02Speaker 1: looked at all three answers. Was this North or South America?
- 14:07Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? North America is big? I
- 14:10Speaker 1: wasn't really thinking about now it's it's America. I didn't
- 14:15Speaker 1: say North America South America like our fifty states. That's
- 14:19Speaker 1: the United States, not United States. Does everybody have an answer?
- 14:23Speaker 1: I go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Max
- 14:26Speaker 1: without an answer, saying salamander. Brodie sang hell bender, Hansi
- 14:31Speaker 1: sang HeLa monster, Mark saying giant salamander, Corey sang Newt,
- 14:36Speaker 1: Seth saying hell bender, and Janice saying Nemea. Told we
- 14:40Speaker 1: have a correct answer in the room. It's hell bender.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Brody and Seth got it. Good old Pennsylvania boys know
- 14:47Speaker 1: they're amphibians. Hell benders can grow hell benders can grow
- 14:54Speaker 1: up to thirty inches long and way up to five pounds.
- 14:57Speaker 1: There are two subspecies of hell benders, which are Eastern
- 15:00Speaker 1: hellbender and Ozark hell bender. Other nicknames for the salamander
- 15:05Speaker 1: include snot otter, alleghany alligator, and lasagna lizard. I'm glad
- 15:10Speaker 1: I didn't write the largest thing was because I've seen
- 15:14Speaker 1: some heavy duty bullfrogs. I checked, and I the heaviest
- 15:19Speaker 1: bullfrog I can find did not beat the heaviest you're
- 15:23Speaker 1: doing hell bender. Question four. The topic is public lands
- 15:29Speaker 1: located on the border of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. This
- 15:33Speaker 1: is considered America's deepest river gorge. Located on the border
- 15:40Speaker 1: of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. This is considered America's deepest
- 15:46Speaker 1: river gorge. Do we have anybody in this room who's
- 15:50Speaker 1: from Oregon, Washington or Idaho. I don't think so, Phil, Phil,
- 15:54Speaker 1: do you know this one? I would have known the river,
- 15:57Speaker 1: not the name of the gorge deepest river gorge? Are
- 16:01Speaker 1: you accepting the name of the river. You tell me
- 16:04Speaker 1: what the deepest river gorges in America, and I'll tell
- 16:08Speaker 1: you if it's right or wrong. Get away with something.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna accept the name of the river.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Max does everybody? Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 16:20Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Max saying, what's that say? Max?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Hell's Canyon? Brody sang Hell's Canyon, Hans He sang Hell's Canyon,
- 16:30Speaker 1: March sang Columbia River Gorge, Corey sang Hell's Canyon. What'd
- 16:34Speaker 1: you cross out there? Cory Snake Seth sang Hell's Canyon,
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yanni sang Hell's Canyon. They got it. It is Hell's
- 16:41Speaker 1: Canyon or the Snake River Canyon. Either answer, I would
- 16:47Speaker 1: have taken Snake River Canyon. Hell's Canyon is a ten
- 16:52Speaker 1: mile wide gorge that's eight thousand feet deep, which is
- 16:56Speaker 1: two thousand feet deeper than the Grand Canyon. The top
- 16:59Speaker 1: of the key Anion was formed by volcanoes over the
- 17:02Speaker 1: last three hundred million years, and the bottom of the
- 17:05Speaker 1: canyon has been carved out by the Snake River over
- 17:08Speaker 1: the last fifteen thousand years. Hell's Canyon. Question five. We
- 17:13Speaker 1: will get a scoreboard update from Phil after this. The
- 17:16Speaker 1: topic is gear. This next great question comes to as
- 17:19Speaker 1: via Cody Spivy. If you have a question, you think
- 17:22Speaker 1: it's right for mediator Trivia. You can send it to
- 17:24Speaker 1: trivia at the meat eater dot com. This scientific term
- 17:29Speaker 1: refers to the influence that Earth's rotation has on a
- 17:33Speaker 1: bullets trajectory. This scientific term refers to the influence that
- 17:40Speaker 1: Earth's rotation has on a bullets trajectory. Very quick answers
- 17:45Speaker 1: from Brody, Janice and Rick. The rest of the room,
- 17:50Speaker 1: not so much, Corey. Scientific term refers to the influence
- 17:59Speaker 1: that Earth's were station has on a bullet trajectory. You know, well,
- 18:04Speaker 1: some people are still working on their answers. You guys,
- 18:07Speaker 1: remember that skit on SNL when Will Ferrell was playing
- 18:11Speaker 1: Tripped Back and then I forget who was playing Burt Reynolds,
- 18:17Speaker 1: McDonald nor McDonald. That's right. I can watch it over
- 18:21Speaker 1: and over, but I feel like we need that character
- 18:23Speaker 1: in here to just give bad answers to Spencer. But
- 18:31Speaker 1: they played Sean Connery, That's who would They're the best.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Sometimes we just organically have folks that provide bad answers,
- 18:39Speaker 1: So get that anyway, this question might be one of them.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer for the scientific term that
- 18:47Speaker 1: refers to the influence that Earth's rotation has on a
- 18:51Speaker 1: bullet trajectory Shelby, I was gonna say, be honest, was
- 18:57Speaker 1: quick on a draw on this? Okay, dobody have an answer,
- 19:01Speaker 1: Just put something Max, go ahead. We have matched without
- 19:06Speaker 1: an answer, Rick saying Coriolis effect. Brodie sang rotational drift,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Hansi sang centrifugal force, Marge without an answer, Corey saying velocity,
- 19:20Speaker 1: saying oh jive, Janni saying Coriolis effect. We have a
- 19:25Speaker 1: correct answer in the room. It's Coriolis effect, which Janice
- 19:29Speaker 1: and Rick got. The Coriolis effect is negligible at most
- 19:35Speaker 1: hunting applications, but becomes noticeable when shooting out to eight
- 19:38Speaker 1: hundred yards or more. In the northern hemisphere, if you're
- 19:42Speaker 1: shooting north or south, your bullet will hit right off target.
- 19:46Speaker 1: In the southern hemisphere, if you're shooting north or south,
- 19:50Speaker 1: your bullet will hit left of target. In both hemispheres,
- 19:53Speaker 1: if you're shooting east, you'll hit high, and if you're
- 19:56Speaker 1: shooting west you'll hit low. Now, Rick, is this thing
- 20:00Speaker 1: that you have to account for when you're doing some
- 20:02Speaker 1: long range shooting? Or do you not worry about the
- 20:03Speaker 1: Corioles effect? It depends on what you consider long range.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Most hunting like if you're in No, you're not really,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but beyond that depending on cartridge, Yeah, you want to
- 20:13Speaker 1: start thinking about it, but I would say most shooters
- 20:17Speaker 1: in America do not need to worry about that. Ever,
- 20:19Speaker 1: coreole effect was that in your head, Brody did did
- 20:22Speaker 1: you have it up there? So no, I would not
- 20:24Speaker 1: have gotten that. We are halfway through the game of trivia.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And now before we get a scoreboard update, Maggie, we
- 20:29Speaker 1: are going to give you giant salamander. I looked at
- 20:32Speaker 1: some people call them that. It refers to the also
- 20:34Speaker 1: the giant salamanders that live in Asia. Uh. But but
- 20:37Speaker 1: I like you, Maggie, so we're gonna give you a
- 20:39Speaker 1: point bhil knowing that give us a scoreboard update, yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 1: sure thing. Well, we've got Max uh and dead last
- 20:47Speaker 1: with one point though this time lumber Tail and then
- 20:51Speaker 1: coming up behind her ahead of him, We've got Maggie, Hansy,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and Corey all with two points apiece. Now with Maggie's addendum,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and now on seth Rick and Brody, I'll have three
- 21:01Speaker 1: points and in first place it's Iana Patelis with four points.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I love the way you say my name, Carl. I
- 21:07Speaker 1: love saying your name. We need more dog questions, Spencer
- 21:20Speaker 1: Question six, The topic is conservation. What chemical compound nearly
- 21:26Speaker 1: drove bald eagles to extinction in the nineteen sixties? Very
- 21:33Speaker 1: quick answers from Brody and Rick and Seth and Hansy.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You got it, honest, it was quick. But I don't
- 21:42Speaker 1: know if it's right. What chemical compound nearly drove bald
- 21:45Speaker 1: eagles to extinction in the nineteen sixties. I think I
- 21:51Speaker 1: have it. I think I do. Max. You're really not
- 21:55Speaker 1: worried about anyone looking at your board. Answers out on
- 22:00Speaker 1: the table on running. What chemical compound nearly drill bald
- 22:05Speaker 1: eagles to extinction in the nineteen sixties? Max, I heard
- 22:10Speaker 1: that you have a group of friends who get together
- 22:12Speaker 1: and listen to trivia and then there's a punishment. Who
- 22:16Speaker 1: gets last? Tell us about that. Um, yeah, it's just
- 22:19Speaker 1: this group of friends that listen to trivia and Um,
- 22:22Speaker 1: they usually do like dinners or something and listen to
- 22:25Speaker 1: trivia while they eat, and then punishment is either like
- 22:29Speaker 1: running around the house in the snow with shoes on. Um,
- 22:34Speaker 1: whoever loses has to do the dishes. Um, just miss Lanny.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Stuff like that. How do you think you chap up
- 22:39Speaker 1: in that? I don't know. I'm not going over there
- 22:43Speaker 1: for dinners anytime soon. Again, what chemical compound nearly drove
- 22:50Speaker 1: bald eagles to extinction in the nineteen sixties. Does everybody
- 22:53Speaker 1: have an answer? Max Corey, Yeah, I got one. Go
- 22:58Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Max saying carbon monoxide,
- 23:03Speaker 1: Brodie Hans, Maggie all saying d d T, Corey saying lead,
- 23:08Speaker 1: Seth and Jana saying d d T. They got it.
- 23:11Speaker 1: The correct answer is d d T. Bald eagle populations
- 23:15Speaker 1: were at an all time low in nineteen sixty three,
- 23:19Speaker 1: with only four hundred seventeen nesting pairs left. D d T,
- 23:23Speaker 1: which was a pesticide used to kill malaria carrying mosquitoes,
- 23:27Speaker 1: was banned in nineteen seventy two. The chemical caused eagle
- 23:31Speaker 1: legs to become soft and failed during incubation. How many
- 23:35Speaker 1: of those buggers around now? They're seventy thousand. It's it's
- 23:38Speaker 1: wildly up there. Question seven the topic is cooking. This
- 23:44Speaker 1: next great question comes to us via Jake Anderson. If
- 23:47Speaker 1: you have a question you think it's right for meat
- 23:48Speaker 1: Eat Trivia, you can send it to trivia at the
- 23:50Speaker 1: meat eater dot com. What is the main ingredient used
- 23:55Speaker 1: to make cannibal sandwiches and tiger meat? What is the
- 24:01Speaker 1: main ingredient used to make cannibal sandwiches and tiger meat?
- 24:05Speaker 1: I need you to be specific with your answer. Topic
- 24:10Speaker 1: is cooking and I'm looking for the main ingredient in
- 24:14Speaker 1: cannibal sandwiches and tiger meat, Joannice. Going back to earlier
- 24:18Speaker 1: the Coriolis effect, Shelby did not get that one right,
- 24:21Speaker 1: did not have that one. You's got to be a
- 24:24Speaker 1: little bit of a gun nerd maxt. I feel like
- 24:26Speaker 1: you should notice. I feel like I should too. I
- 24:32Speaker 1: think my girlfriend would be pretty upset with me if
- 24:35Speaker 1: I get this one wrong. What is the main ingredient
- 24:38Speaker 1: used to be sandwiches and tiger meat? Be more specific
- 24:42Speaker 1: about being specific. It's needs you to be specific. That's
- 24:48Speaker 1: not that like. That could be a cut of meat,
- 24:53Speaker 1: that could be a pieces of animal, that could be
- 24:59Speaker 1: it was meat until Brody just said it could be
- 25:01Speaker 1: like that is true. You could have been would nothing
- 25:07Speaker 1: cannibal sandwiches though, I should give that away. I'm not gonna.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna give any further hands.
- 25:14Speaker 1: We'll use our judgment here and if you got it
- 25:16Speaker 1: or not, does everybody have an answer? I want to
- 25:20Speaker 1: need thirty more seconds. I've had tiger meat before, but
- 25:24Speaker 1: I've never made it. Okay, someone in this room made
- 25:28Speaker 1: me tiger meat. Brody, you got an answer, go ahead
- 25:34Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Max saying ground beef,
- 25:39Speaker 1: Rick sang meet, Brodie sang raw meat, Hansi sang raw venison,
- 25:44Speaker 1: Maggie without an answer, Corey sang monkey cheeks, Seth saying
- 25:49Speaker 1: ground meat. Jana sang ground venison. The correct answer is
- 25:54Speaker 1: raw ground meat. Now, if you just said ground meat,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'll give that to you. I didn't give it to them.
- 25:59Speaker 1: And if you specific let's see the answers here. If
- 26:04Speaker 1: you said ground something, I'll give it to you. And
- 26:06Speaker 1: if you said raw something. Okay, who who wrote ground
- 26:09Speaker 1: without saying raw because I didn't give you a point? Seth, Max, Yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I said and raw. I'll take raw meats or ground meats.
- 26:22Speaker 1: The specific answer would be raw ground meat. Is there
- 26:26Speaker 1: like two ingredients. German communities in the Great Plains refer
- 26:29Speaker 1: to it as tiger meat, while those around the Great
- 26:32Speaker 1: Lakes call it a cannibal sandwich. The appetizer is made
- 26:35Speaker 1: of raw ground meat, raw eggs, raw onions, hot sauce,
- 26:39Speaker 1: and lots of spices, and is often served at Super
- 26:42Speaker 1: Bowl parties, wedding receptions, and holiday get together Yeah, let
- 26:46Speaker 1: that sit out on a table in the summer heat
- 26:48Speaker 1: for a while. We want. If you want to make
- 26:51Speaker 1: it for yourself, then go to the meatator dot com
- 26:53Speaker 1: and check out my recipe for venison tiger meat. And
- 26:56Speaker 1: what Janice was referring to was the Christmas party I
- 26:59Speaker 1: think three years ago I brought from some venison tiger meat.
- 27:03Speaker 1: What do you do with the leftovers there? It's great,
- 27:05Speaker 1: you put in a fridge and the next day you
- 27:07Speaker 1: like make it for breakfast or something. It's just like
- 27:09Speaker 1: he cook it. Yeah, it's like heavily spiced ground meat.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So you can do anything with it. Turned into patties,
- 27:14Speaker 1: throw it in with your eggs. For sure. You gotta
- 27:17Speaker 1: keep it called rolls. The place you said have the best,
- 27:20Speaker 1: Kessler's in Aberdeen has the best tiger meat I've ever had.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Seth and Rick were just in Aberdeen. We never like
- 27:26Speaker 1: the bar is pretty low when it comes to tiger
- 27:28Speaker 1: meat when like, how good? Can it be very good?
- 27:34Speaker 1: The topic is fishing. What underwear brand supposedly changed their
- 27:40Speaker 1: logo because of the bad luck it brought Fisherman? Quick
- 27:45Speaker 1: answer from HANSI Brody, you honest, Max Again, the question
- 27:50Speaker 1: is what underwear brand supposedly changed their logo because of
- 27:55Speaker 1: the bad luck it brought Fisherman. The rest of the
- 27:59Speaker 1: rooms starting to file in with answers. It seems like
- 28:03Speaker 1: everyone's feeling good about except for Seth. Doesn't wear underwear
- 28:07Speaker 1: when he's fishing bad luck. That's how superstitious he is.
- 28:11Speaker 1: He just wears a raincoat and that's it. Daffy ducks it.
- 28:17Speaker 1: There's a Donald Duck. Stay tuned for more of that
- 28:21Speaker 1: in Montana Whalley to her right, what underwear brands supposedly
- 28:26Speaker 1: changed their logo because of the bad luck it brought Fisherman? Seth.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I think we're just waiting on you. It's not first
- 28:36Speaker 1: Seth core you know this one second slowest answer in
- 28:41Speaker 1: the room, but you don't think you know. Is it
- 28:44Speaker 1: a company that specifically makes underwear or is it like
- 28:47Speaker 1: clothing brand? I can give you any hints. What underwear
- 28:51Speaker 1: brand supposedly change their logo because of the bad luck
- 28:55Speaker 1: you brought fisherman. Does everybody have an answer ahead and
- 29:00Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Max saying Banana Republic, Rick
- 29:04Speaker 1: sang fruit of the Loom, Brodie Hansi, Maggie All saying
- 29:09Speaker 1: fruit of the Loom, Corey saying Banana Republic, Seth saying lucky.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Jana sang fruit of the Loom. The room did very well.
- 29:17Speaker 1: The answer is fruit of the Loom. The story goes
- 29:21Speaker 1: that a Fruit of the Loom executive was on a
- 29:23Speaker 1: phishing charter that wasn't having any luck. The captain said
- 29:27Speaker 1: it was because of the banana on the logo of
- 29:29Speaker 1: their underwear, which caused them to rip off their tags
- 29:32Speaker 1: and throw them in the ocean. After that, they couldn't
- 29:35Speaker 1: keep fish off their line. But this was proved to
- 29:38Speaker 1: be a hoax, which Joe Surmeli covered on our website.
- 29:41Speaker 1: If you want to learn more on this story, then
- 29:43Speaker 1: go to the Meat Eatra dot com and read our
- 29:45Speaker 1: article called bar room Banter. Did fishing superstition change our
- 29:49Speaker 1: underpants forever? Do you think they were just in a
- 29:52Speaker 1: like a bad fishing spot during the time before they
- 29:54Speaker 1: ripped off the tags there's there's quite a there's like
- 29:56Speaker 1: a lot to this story. Like I said, you need
- 29:59Speaker 1: to go read Joe article on on how this myth
- 30:02Speaker 1: came to be in what the real story is on
- 30:03Speaker 1: food of the loom and does it come down to marketing? No? No, Phil,
- 30:09Speaker 1: give us a scoreboard update. We have two questions left
- 30:12Speaker 1: and unfortunately we have to bid a dyear to Max,
- 30:15Speaker 1: Corey and Maggie. Thanks for playing. Corey a usual strong
- 30:20Speaker 1: competitor out of the game, but still in the game.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We have seth Rick and Hans with five points, apiece,
- 30:29Speaker 1: Brody with six, and the honest Patellos holding strong in
- 30:32Speaker 1: first place with seven points. Wrong answer so far, that's
- 30:36Speaker 1: only one a cushion of one that's not strong. I
- 30:40Speaker 1: don't think that's true. Yeah, I'm still writing down my
- 30:42Speaker 1: answers though. Yeah, you can keep playing it. Question nine,
- 30:45Speaker 1: the topic is woodsmanship. This next great question comes to
- 30:48Speaker 1: us be a Mike Stephen. If you have a question
- 30:51Speaker 1: you think is right from Meat Eat to trivia, you
- 30:52Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 30:56Speaker 1: What are the three colors on a quartal snake? What
- 31:03Speaker 1: are the three colors on a coral snake, very quick
- 31:09Speaker 1: answers the whole room. This might be one where everybody
- 31:14Speaker 1: gets it. What are the three colors on a coral snake?
- 31:20Speaker 1: I don't know about everybody get You're honest with the
- 31:23Speaker 1: slowest answer. The man in lead. Maybe he's just trying
- 31:25Speaker 1: to give Brody some hope, playing head games. Yeah, looking
- 31:31Speaker 1: for the three colors? No chit chat on a coral
- 31:35Speaker 1: is right? And his answer hasn't you never seen a
- 31:37Speaker 1: coral snake? I think planet listen. You can't be talking.
- 31:42Speaker 1: It's too much information because could have been with Seth.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You sure it wasn't a milk snake? Fair point? Very similar. Uh,
- 32:01Speaker 1: there's there's a little rhyme that goes along with the snake.
- 32:06Speaker 1: And if I could just remember that little rhyme, then
- 32:09Speaker 1: I could give him answer. Jannie run out of time
- 32:16Speaker 1: ten nine, eight down six. Well that's a lot of pressure.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Already tied for the lead. Everybody else have an answer,
- 32:29Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Max sang
- 32:31Speaker 1: red white black, Rick sang red yellow black, Brody saying
- 32:36Speaker 1: red black yellow, hans He sang yellow red brown, Maggie
- 32:41Speaker 1: sang black red white, Corey sang red white, black saying
- 32:46Speaker 1: red yellow black, Janice saying red black, white, red touches
- 32:52Speaker 1: yellow fellow correct black. Friend of Jack is red, black
- 33:00Speaker 1: and yellow. As Brownie just said, between black and the
- 33:05Speaker 1: poem that helps you remember this is red on yellow
- 33:08Speaker 1: kill a fella, red on black, a friend to Jack.
- 33:11Speaker 1: This rhyme is supposed to remind you that coral snakes
- 33:14Speaker 1: are a highly venomous species, while impostors are not. It's
- 33:19Speaker 1: mostly accurate for the United States, but doesn't hold true
- 33:23Speaker 1: for the rest of the world. The impostors, but I
- 33:26Speaker 1: think they're also Corey point out a milk snake. There's
- 33:29Speaker 1: quite a few um that have evolved to look very
- 33:31Speaker 1: similar to a coral. I'm gonna I'm gonna fight this
- 33:34Speaker 1: one a little bit because I mean, black is like
- 33:36Speaker 1: an absence of color. How many points you got, I mean,
- 33:42Speaker 1: I mean, he's got a decent amount, but he's yeah, yeah,
- 33:45Speaker 1: if he got if he gave him this, he would
- 33:47Speaker 1: still be in the game. Technically, I don't think it's right,
- 33:51Speaker 1: especially when you go by the rhyme. Um. I like you, Hans,
- 33:54Speaker 1: but not enough to give you brown question and give
- 34:01Speaker 1: us another scoreboard update Phil for where we stand with
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yanni getting that wrong. Yeah, well, Rick and Seth are
- 34:07Speaker 1: tied with six points, and now Brody and Janice are
- 34:10Speaker 1: tied with seven. Down to the wire question, The topic
- 34:17Speaker 1: is hunting my favorite named two You don't do that?
- 34:22Speaker 1: Named two of the top three states with the most
- 34:26Speaker 1: mountain goat entries in the Boone and Crockett record books.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Name two of the top three states with the most
- 34:36Speaker 1: mountain goat entries in the Boone and Crockett record Book.
- 34:40Speaker 1: If I get all three, automatically go from two to ten.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Golden snitch question, named two of the top three states
- 34:51Speaker 1: with the most mountain goat entries in the Boone and
- 34:53Speaker 1: Crockett record Book. Fill did I use that reference? Right?
- 34:56Speaker 1: You did? It's one of the dumbest rules of quidditch.
- 34:59Speaker 1: It's so stupid. What are the other dumb rules? All?
- 35:02Speaker 1: The whole game is kind of dumb. The fact that
- 35:04Speaker 1: you catch this ball and you your team. Uh the thing.
- 35:06Speaker 1: She realized it was really dumb after she wrote it.
- 35:09Speaker 1: So then the fourth book, someone catches the snitch and
- 35:11Speaker 1: still loses because the other team scored so many points
- 35:15Speaker 1: with the quaffle. I'll shut up now. I'm so sorry.
- 35:19Speaker 1: The question is named two of the top three states
- 35:22Speaker 1: with the most mountain goat entries in the Boone and
- 35:26Speaker 1: Crockett record Book. Remind you that Janice and Brody are tied,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and I would give those two the best chance of
- 35:33Speaker 1: getting this one right. Everybody ready, go ahead and reveal
- 35:38Speaker 1: your answers. We have Max saying Alaska, Colorado, Rick sang Alaska, Colorado,
- 35:44Speaker 1: Brody saying Alaska, Montana, Hanzi without an answer, Maggie sang Wyoming, Alaska,
- 35:51Speaker 1: Corey sang Wyoming Montana, Seth saying Alaska, Idaho, Janice saying Alaska,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and Washington. The three states are Alaska, Montana, and Washington,
- 36:05Speaker 1: which the correct answer. Alaska has had three hundred seventeen
- 36:11Speaker 1: mountain goat entries in the Boone and Crockett record Book.
- 36:14Speaker 1: That's followed by Montana at one hundred ten, Washington at seven,
- 36:19Speaker 1: Utah at seventy eight, and Nevada at forty four. Brody
- 36:24Speaker 1: and The Honest both have eight correct answers, which means
- 36:27Speaker 1: we're going to overtime. Play the drop fill glad you
- 36:38Speaker 1: can be second, you can be third, fourth out give
- 36:44Speaker 1: the tie breaking question. The topic is hunting. What is
- 36:48Speaker 1: the average cost to get a white tailed deer shoulder
- 36:52Speaker 1: mounted as of December. I got this number by looking
- 36:57Speaker 1: at the prices from over thirty taxi dermists across the country.
- 37:02Speaker 1: What is the average cost to get a white tailed
- 37:05Speaker 1: deer shoulder mounted as of December? Write your answer to
- 37:11Speaker 1: two decimal places, so if you think it's right, your
- 37:13Speaker 1: answer like one dollar and five cents or something like that.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You honest, how many deer do you have shoulder mounted? Brodie?
- 37:21Speaker 1: How many deer shoulder mounted? Okay, because you know how
- 37:24Speaker 1: much it costs to make a skull mount yourself? Zero zero.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Like the rest of the room can play long, but
- 37:31Speaker 1: it only matters what Janice and Brody say. There's gonna
- 37:36Speaker 1: be a winner here. You need to write to to
- 37:42Speaker 1: decimal places. Brody, you feel good about this? Yeah? I
- 37:47Speaker 1: mean I think there's like a five ballpark that it
- 37:52Speaker 1: falls into. You spread this across the whole like you.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I was looking at New York, Kentucky, Montana Tech this
- 38:00Speaker 1: and I looked at thirty over thirty different taxidermists. Be honest,
- 38:04Speaker 1: you feel okay about this? Yep? I feel like you
- 38:07Speaker 1: two grew up in like the shoulder deer mounting capitals,
- 38:10Speaker 1: but it was a lot cheaper back then. You know. Still,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I definitely know how much some people have paid for
- 38:16Speaker 1: them in the past. But like, when was this? When's
- 38:19Speaker 1: this from yesterday? No? I pulled this data yesterday recently?
- 38:25Speaker 1: Has some taxidermy done? And uh, it might be my
- 38:28Speaker 1: last piece because you're telling me, man, is everybody who's
- 38:33Speaker 1: gonna come up with an answer? Have an answer? Brodie?
- 38:36Speaker 1: I like your point to European moncer zero. That's what
- 38:40Speaker 1: that's what's nice. Well, you know you got a few, Brod.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Are you still writing over there? Do you have an
- 38:47Speaker 1: answer to decimal plays? Good? Okay, go ahead and reveal
- 38:51Speaker 1: your answers. We have Rick saying six dollars and fifty cents,
- 38:57Speaker 1: Hansi saying two hundred seventy six dollars is in fourteen
- 39:00Speaker 1: cents saying two hundred fifty dollars and fifty cents, and
- 39:07Speaker 1: our two competitors left. We have Brody saying eight fifty
- 39:14Speaker 1: and Janice saying seven hundred dollars and one cent. One
- 39:19Speaker 1: of you is within five dollars of the correct answer,
- 39:23Speaker 1: which is quite amazing for two fellas who have zero
- 39:27Speaker 1: deer that are shoulder mounted The correct answer is six
- 39:33Speaker 1: hundred nine dollars and thirty one cents, making Janice our winner.
- 39:38Speaker 1: What done? Honest? That is that's as good as like
- 39:41Speaker 1: hitting it right on the nose is getting within five dollars,
- 39:44Speaker 1: that's great. The lowest I saw was four hundred seventy
- 39:48Speaker 1: five dollars in The highest I saw was nine hundred dollars.
- 39:51Speaker 1: So a four hundred twenty five dollar difference between the
- 39:54Speaker 1: top and the bottom of the market. That actually sounds cheap,
- 39:58Speaker 1: does Uh? Probably a decade ago and it was six
- 40:05Speaker 1: hundred bucks. Must have went to a good tax. Yeah,
- 40:07Speaker 1: it was a good text numerus. But yeah, I think
- 40:09Speaker 1: that that's including all these guys doing it in their garage. Hey,
- 40:16Speaker 1: as the winner, you get to choose where a five
- 40:19Speaker 1: donation goes. So what's it gonna be? I want to
- 40:21Speaker 1: choose the Montana Wilderness School. Without going into too much detail,
- 40:26Speaker 1: just think like an outdoor or outward bound program, but
- 40:30Speaker 1: four Montana kids specifically. You need to get a go
- 40:33Speaker 1: into more detail though, because I don't even know what
- 40:34Speaker 1: this is. Well, it's basically a program that gets kids
- 40:38Speaker 1: outdoors all different kinds of adventures over the summer. Um
- 40:43Speaker 1: you know, mountain climb and rock climb and kayaking. They
- 40:46Speaker 1: teach hunting, trapping, even um. It's a great program and
- 40:50Speaker 1: it gets a lot of Montana kids, specifically out into
- 40:53Speaker 1: the woods. Trying to get my kid in there for
- 40:55Speaker 1: a little I like it. The first time we have
- 40:58Speaker 1: ever donated there one more time. What's it called Montana
- 41:00Speaker 1: Wilderness School. Well done, Yanni. It was a good fight
- 41:03Speaker 1: that you let Brodie come back. I know well. I
- 41:07Speaker 1: remember I had a lead going into the question eight
- 41:09Speaker 1: last week and Hayden came back and beat me, so
- 41:11Speaker 1: I was feeling it. I think it's worth pointing out
- 41:13Speaker 1: that Yanni is on a terror. He is. He said
- 41:16Speaker 1: this before happens. I don't think Yanni understood the game
- 41:18Speaker 1: when we started playing, and now now when I said
- 41:22Speaker 1: not to understand. Now, when I send out an invite,
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yanni is the first one to REPLI. He says, I
- 41:28Speaker 1: will be there. I will not go mountain lion hunting,
- 41:30Speaker 1: just so I can come. When you're confusing me with
- 41:32Speaker 1: Stephen Ronald, I think so well done, Yanni. Join us
