- 0:03Speaker 1: Ay ay. So this show always starts with a little music.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I have music news. I got a lot of news
- 0:12Speaker 1: on who's performing. It just came in in the last
- 0:15Speaker 1: like hour or two. For MLB one, we already knew,
- 0:18Speaker 1: but you want to hear some.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Names for what world?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Like Game one and two.
- 0:23Speaker 2: See, I don't know anything about it.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'll give it to you ready, their names, you know?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Game one anthem got a Canadian No, I don't know
- 0:31Speaker 1: if these people are Canadian or not. To be honest,
- 0:33Speaker 1: maybe somebody can look that up on the fly as
- 0:35Speaker 1: we talk about it. Game one Pharrell, he's been all
- 0:38Speaker 1: over all the postseason and stuff, so you know, doing
- 0:41Speaker 1: the ads. You've seen him on. So he's part of
- 0:43Speaker 1: some deal that they have with them. So that's solid.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's a good start, right. We like Forrell.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Oh caned Parrell's and Americans are just look what else?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Game two bb Rexa for the American anthem. I'm a fan.
- 1:03Speaker 2: She's good.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And then Alessia Kara for the Canadian anthem. She's also excellent.
- 1:14Speaker 1: What about Alessia is Alessia Canadian? I'm curious because she's
- 1:17Speaker 1: doing the Canadian anthem. She is really good, very talented,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you would know your songs. I'm not going to attempt
- 1:25Speaker 1: good Patriot boom, there you go. And lastly, I think
- 1:32Speaker 1: it's mid game. Maybe they're doing a song. It's part
- 1:34Speaker 1: of the stand up to cancer that MLB does a
- 1:36Speaker 1: really nice job with. Jonas Brothers.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Nice. Well, I know one of them. I think they're
- 1:41Speaker 2: Jersey if.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Oh they're so Jersey Jonas Bros. Yeah, yeah, very very.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Have to look that one up. I know.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think one of them still lives in North Jersey. Yes,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I know the one you're talking about. Yeah, I know
- 1:53Speaker 1: him as well. Yes, there you go.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Pretty cool. No, no, no, Pennsylvania guys singer.
- 2:00Speaker 1: No, the Phillies didn't make it to the World Series unfortunately.
- 2:03Speaker 3: You know what's fun about the Anthem? That's the one
- 2:06Speaker 3: song they always played before I didn't play good.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Isn't that something? Why would they always keep playing that.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Song now again and again. You'd have a bad day
- 2:14Speaker 1: and be like, can we skip it just for superstitious purposes?
- 2:17Speaker 1: And they were like no, no, no no.
- 2:19Speaker 3: When they're playing the Anthem, I'm like, I might have
- 2:20Speaker 3: a good game, but every time they played the Anthem
- 2:23Speaker 3: didn't have a good game.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that one time in Puerto Rico it
- 2:27Speaker 4: was raining, so they went and didn't play it, and
- 2:30Speaker 4: you started felt like Tony Gwynn, didn't you.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you just get scared, you know when you hear
- 2:39Speaker 1: your country's anthem. All right, anyway, it's Friday, as you
- 2:42Speaker 1: can tell, but we're super excited. It's World Series Game
- 2:45Speaker 1: one day. The World Series begins this evening, and we
- 2:48Speaker 1: are going to have a post game show. We'll give
- 2:50Speaker 1: you a little more info. It's very simple though. If
- 2:53Speaker 1: you are watching the game, or even if you're not,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you tune in to YouTube very soon after the game,
- 2:59Speaker 1: sometimes on a minute after. Sometimes it's a close game,
- 3:02Speaker 1: we wait a few minutes. You watch the postgame interview
- 3:04Speaker 1: on the field with Kenny Ballgame, Rosen Dollar, Tome Berducci,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and then we're on live discussing what happens after game one.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So we'll see you for it, and in case you
- 3:15Speaker 1: fall asleep or something, we're still there for you on
- 3:17Speaker 1: demand on YouTube with that postgame show. Let us charge.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I like this quote to start us off, Blake Snell
- 3:30Speaker 1: Game one starter. Hey, Blake, what's your approach against Laddie
- 3:34Speaker 1: Junior and George Springer?
- 3:36Speaker 2: His quote.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I can tell you in like a week.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It's a great quote. It is.
- 3:43Speaker 4: He's no idea, or if I was him, I would
- 3:45Speaker 4: have said the exact opposite, would you know? Yeah, fastball
- 3:49Speaker 4: is right down the plate. They can't hit a fastball
- 3:51Speaker 4: center cut. I've seen it for years now. I've seen
- 3:54Speaker 4: it for so many years, those two guys especially.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It's the weirdest thing.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Just forcing fastballs on ninety four ninety six right down
- 4:02Speaker 4: the plate.
- 4:03Speaker 2: That's what I'm gonna do, and keep a straight.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Faith bold move Cotton. See how it works out for you.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I love it. I love it.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Why not?
- 4:12Speaker 3: We got guys at second base like flapping their wings
- 4:15Speaker 3: and making circles. Why can't pictures, Why can't pictures come back?
- 4:19Speaker 3: But I'll tell you what they are gonna do to George.
- 4:22Speaker 3: You're gonna see that slider that has been absolutely filthy
- 4:26Speaker 3: for Blake, and you're gonna see change ups and everything
- 4:29Speaker 3: else is gonna be out of his zone because George
- 4:31Speaker 3: hits lefty curveballs like nobody's business. So and obviously he's
- 4:36Speaker 3: gonna be a hit a heater. But Blake knows what
- 4:38Speaker 3: he's gonna do. He's and if he forgets. He's got
- 4:41Speaker 3: it in his pocket and.
- 4:42Speaker 2: He's gonna look at it, oh yeah, exactly.
- 4:44Speaker 3: In between pitches and then he'll hit the button on
- 4:47Speaker 3: his hip and then he'll go and throw it.
- 4:49Speaker 4: He's been nasty, yeah, And I think to your point
- 4:52Speaker 4: kind of to like finish it off, I don't think
- 4:55Speaker 4: he needs to change just because who's up to the plate. Honestly,
- 4:59Speaker 4: this guy, whatever he's been doing, whatever signs they've been
- 5:02Speaker 4: putting down, they've been synchronized, they've been in sync.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And just because whoever's up, all of.
- 5:07Speaker 4: A sudden, you want to change your approach to what
- 5:09Speaker 4: you've been throwing and how nasty you are. Okay, if
- 5:12Speaker 4: they get one or two out, then maybe change it up.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But the way he's been pitching, you know, whatever sequence
- 5:19Speaker 4: he wants to throw us to, righties, don't even worry
- 5:21Speaker 4: about the name. Worry about what you can control, and
- 5:23Speaker 4: that's throwing your best pitch at that particular time. And
- 5:25Speaker 4: he has been doing it this whole playoff.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Let's talk rosters to go ahead, crats, and
- 5:31Speaker 1: then I'll say.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You definitely just got it. Basically, Blake's just gonna look
- 5:35Speaker 3: at it and go dude, this is this is a
- 5:37Speaker 3: hot there's a hot zone. I'm gonna stay out of
- 5:40Speaker 3: that hot zone unless it's like that is my Like
- 5:43Speaker 3: if somebody's hammering change ups and he's like, that's my
- 5:46Speaker 3: best pitch, I don't really care. But there's glaring there's
- 5:50Speaker 3: glaring areas that Blake Snell can go to. But you're
- 5:54Speaker 3: exactly right, Todd. Do you want to stay with your strengths.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Also, the Dodgers are down one of their shirt goal
- 6:00Speaker 1: of trust relievers. It's a tough story. We don't have
- 6:04Speaker 1: a lot of information, but Alex Vessia is not currently
- 6:08Speaker 1: on the roster. There were reports yesterday that maybe he
- 6:12Speaker 1: would be put on the family medical emergency or a
- 6:15Speaker 1: breaevement list something like that. So the Dodgers shared that
- 6:19Speaker 1: he's away from the team and he and his wife
- 6:22Speaker 1: Kayla are navigating a deeply personal family matter. So first off,
- 6:26Speaker 1: most importantly, hope you know everything's okay and thinking about them,
- 6:30Speaker 1: there's more than just baseball on the field. We do
- 6:33Speaker 1: cover the sport. Though Alex Vessier is one of their
- 6:36Speaker 1: best relievers. Maybe he pops up later in the series
- 6:39Speaker 1: if they figure that out. But we know for sure,
- 6:41Speaker 1: he's not pitching in Game one, that is one of
- 6:45Speaker 1: their better relievers.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 6:47Speaker 4: And forget about sports, anything that deals with family, with
- 6:50Speaker 4: deals with friends, anything that you hear with a heavy heart,
- 6:56Speaker 4: that kind of takes it toll a little bit understanding that.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Listen, this takes precedents of everything.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Forget about a World series ring family over everything, and
- 7:04Speaker 4: we hope everything's okay. We will say prayers and all
- 7:08Speaker 4: that stuff, well wishes, and again we don't know the
- 7:11Speaker 4: full story. But again, baseball does not come first when
- 7:15Speaker 4: it comes to family.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Let's take you through the Arena Club slab pack experience.
- 7:23Speaker 1: This is part two because todd father last week pulled
- 7:27Speaker 1: a card that he didn't love, yet he sold it
- 7:30Speaker 1: back for actually more than what the slab pack cost.
- 7:33Speaker 1: This time pulls a card that he likes.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and this is the best part of it. Ronnie Mauricio,
- 7:38Speaker 4: the Mets stand out. You know, rookie sensation. He's been
- 7:41Speaker 4: absolutely phenomenal. I like the itch of seeing what you're
- 7:45Speaker 4: gonna get, you know, I like prospects. I don't love him,
- 7:48Speaker 4: but seeing this kind of card is actually absolutely beautiful thing.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I know a couple people around town that would absolutely
- 7:54Speaker 4: love that card. So there's gonna be a lot of
- 7:55Speaker 4: conversations going on here for Arena Club.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And what you do is you have it in your
- 7:59Speaker 1: digital showroom. If you want to hand it out locally,
- 8:02Speaker 1: then cool. You ask Arena Club to send it to
- 8:05Speaker 1: you and they do, or you can sell it back
- 8:06Speaker 1: like you see their instant offer for one hundred and
- 8:09Speaker 1: ninety three bucks. But he's keeping it. And you can
- 8:11Speaker 1: do what Todd Father does by going to Arena club
- 8:13Speaker 1: dot com slash foul and getting twenty percent off your
- 8:16Speaker 1: first card purchase or your first slab pack purchase.
- 8:21Speaker 2: So krats.
- 8:22Speaker 1: As far as strategy concerns, Let's say Blake Snell isn't
- 8:27Speaker 1: superhuman and gives you more of a five ish because
- 8:32Speaker 1: the pitch count rides up or whatever. Right, I mean,
- 8:35Speaker 1: that's more common. I mean Blake's been stupid good. But
- 8:39Speaker 1: if that's the case, I mean, this definitely hurts for
- 8:42Speaker 1: the Dodgers. This is the one week spot where the
- 8:44Speaker 1: Blue Jays could pounce.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I mean they have two like real relievers that have
- 8:50Speaker 3: pitched only as relievers in Vessia and Trina, and that
- 8:54Speaker 3: I think Dave Roberts really really trusts. I wouldn't be
- 9:00Speaker 3: surprised if you give, you know, you give like a
- 9:02Speaker 3: short leash to a Clayton Kershall if there is, you know,
- 9:06Speaker 3: if there's a little bit of a hiccup for Blake
- 9:08Speaker 3: Snow and you wouldn't expect that based on how he's
- 9:12Speaker 3: been pitching. But so the World Series is, there's a
- 9:15Speaker 3: lot going on. The Blue Jays are a good team,
- 9:16Speaker 3: that's why they're there, and losing Vessia is it's a
- 9:21Speaker 3: big it's a big loss. But I'm glad. I'm glad
- 9:24Speaker 3: the organization and him are able to say, you know what,
- 9:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna step away and take care of this.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So Vessia is off for now. Ben Casparius is not on.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean, we haven't seen him much. He was a
- 9:36Speaker 1: big deal last year, but we haven't seen him. I
- 9:38Speaker 1: don't know if you pitched at all. I know he's
- 9:40Speaker 1: on the roster, but I don't remember if you pitched
- 9:41Speaker 1: at all. I don't think so in the postseason. Maybe
- 9:46Speaker 1: in the wildcard rounds, I don't remember, but I don't
- 9:48Speaker 1: think so.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Actually, I feel like I saw him warming up one time,
- 9:53Speaker 3: but it wouldn't have been in the wild It might
- 9:55Speaker 3: have been in a wildcard round. Now I feel like
- 9:58Speaker 3: it was in Milwaukee. Was he active in Milwaukee?
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he was active, I think, okay.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Thinking about seeing him in the bullpen in Milwaukee's but
- 10:07Speaker 3: it's jogging my memory. But I don't think he got
- 10:09Speaker 3: in a game.
- 10:11Speaker 1: No Tanner Scott, which is still crazy when you think
- 10:13Speaker 1: about how the world really erupted the jealous world when
- 10:16Speaker 1: they were like, oh, they get Tanner Scott and Kirby
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yates and they are completely uninvolved in the postseason. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: that continues. But the right handers activated or Will Klein
- 10:27Speaker 1: and Edgardo Henriquez who has good stuff but did not
- 10:31Speaker 1: have it in that wild card game. Remember again Cincinnati.
- 10:34Speaker 1: He was one of the guys where you're like.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Uh uh and he just couldn't find it. Yep.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Part of that like sixty whatever, sixty three pitch inning that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, they had a big lead, but you
- 10:47Speaker 3: saw like, oh boy, Dave Robinson was like, all right,
- 10:50Speaker 3: we got to go to somebody else. So hey, you
- 10:52Speaker 3: might get another shot. I doubt it in a close game, but.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not like the Dodgers don't have options
- 11:00Speaker 1: and Emma che can go multiple innings. We'll see how
- 11:03Speaker 1: Blake Trining looks. But he's in the circle of trust
- 11:06Speaker 1: Roki Sasaki of course, and hey, Rokie is capable of
- 11:10Speaker 1: going multiple innings. Yeah, keep that in mind. Too tight game,
- 11:14Speaker 1: they could bring him in the eighth. I mean, he
- 11:16Speaker 1: went three innings in that extra inning affair against the Phillies,
- 11:21Speaker 1: So keep that in mind. And by the way, Casparius
- 11:24Speaker 1: Kratz did not pitch so far in this postseason, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: last year in the postseason six and the third one run,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and he was a big deal last year. That was
- 11:31Speaker 1: just coming out part. Let's talk and he wasn't on
- 11:33Speaker 1: the NLTS roster, but he was added back to the
- 11:35Speaker 1: NLCS roster. Now let's talk. Blue Jays. Boba Schett he's on.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Maybe during this show we'll find out lineups, so we'll
- 11:44Speaker 1: share that. Also, ty France is on the roster. Yeah,
- 11:50Speaker 1: ty France, he's in there.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Baby. You were just sitting in spring training or wherever
- 11:58Speaker 4: you are getting some reps. Oh, I'm playing let's.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Go World Series. This is so cool, so cool. Your
- 12:05Speaker 2: name on the list, so pretty unique.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, two guys that had been hurt, right bo battling
- 12:11Speaker 1: the knee issue and they gave him good enough to
- 12:15Speaker 1: go right. And then for ty France, he has not
- 12:21Speaker 1: appeared at all in this postseason. This is the first
- 12:23Speaker 1: time that he's popping up for the team as well.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember. I think it was oblique for him,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but I'll double check that in a moment. So ty
- 12:31Speaker 1: France can give you a good at bat, and he's
- 12:33Speaker 1: actually a really good first base and obviously flat he's
- 12:35Speaker 1: playing first, but that has been a really good defender
- 12:38Speaker 1: as well, not going to be needed in that capacity.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Does he get in there tonight? I mean you're, you're
- 12:44Speaker 3: really you're because he started against he's played against Blake Snell,
- 12:48Speaker 3: and you'd think like, okay, well they're not going to
- 12:52Speaker 3: start him in games two, three, four, because and then
- 12:57Speaker 3: you also have like it feels like they're it feels
- 12:59Speaker 3: like they're in is a little not thin, but a
- 13:03Speaker 3: little like you know, they're kind of handicapping their bench
- 13:08Speaker 3: with all their right handed bats. And then like ty
- 13:10Speaker 3: France doesn't have a lot of versatility. Bo obviously we're
- 13:14Speaker 3: gonna see if he has versatility, But then you're moving
- 13:17Speaker 3: your DH if if he's if Bow's dhing which is
- 13:21Speaker 3: a possibility. Then you could go George in right field,
- 13:25Speaker 3: and then you got Barger third base. But Barger probably
- 13:28Speaker 3: wouldn't start against Blake Snell. So I feel like I'm
- 13:33Speaker 3: interested to see how how it's utilized. Obviously Blue Jays
- 13:36Speaker 3: would love it if they just go nine guys, throw
- 13:38Speaker 3: them out there. How you doing?
- 13:40Speaker 2: How you're doing? I love it?
- 13:42Speaker 1: But Ty France isn't going to start. Where would he play?
- 13:45Speaker 3: That's what I mean, kind of kind of ham hamstrings
- 13:50Speaker 3: your bench. Yeah, like you'd think they'd want a little
- 13:54Speaker 3: bit more versatility than what they have, But I don't
- 13:57Speaker 3: know what their other option would have been besides Ty France.
- 14:00Speaker 3: So that's that's where I'm kind of misinformed.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Well, he takes over for Joey Loperfido low Berffedo replaced
- 14:10Speaker 1: santunder low per Vedo's off, and France is on. Yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 1: I mean, you have Isaiah Connor Philippa who can play.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Even if we made up positions in baseball, he can
- 14:24Speaker 1: play them. He's just very versatile. So you've got that,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and you presume he's going to be more of a
- 14:29Speaker 1: bench guy for them, now, right, Krats, Well, depends on
- 14:33Speaker 1: how the infield plays out.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Which would you rather have a Bulboush at the agent
- 14:38Speaker 4: even at where he is now, or having like an
- 14:41Speaker 4: Isaiah Khanna Filifa or whomever out there playing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: For me, I would like ikf on the bench as
- 14:49Speaker 1: my super utility guy that can fill in any spot
- 14:53Speaker 1: if needed, and you can do defensive replacements later in
- 14:55Speaker 1: the game. But for me, they said George Springer's k
- 15:00Speaker 1: playing in the outfield. We have to go with what
- 15:02Speaker 1: they're saying, right, So if he's playing capable of playing
- 15:04Speaker 1: in the outfield, then great, I'll either take that or
- 15:07Speaker 1: if bo is capable of playing one of those two
- 15:09Speaker 1: middle infield positions. It does make you a better offensive
- 15:13Speaker 1: ball club if you can do one of those things.
- 15:15Speaker 4: I think you put your best offensive ball club out there,
- 15:18Speaker 4: have to and you take your chances. And if you
- 15:20Speaker 4: look back and they end up losing, so be it.
- 15:22Speaker 4: At the end of the day, you know you have
- 15:24Speaker 4: an opportunity to put one of the most you know,
- 15:27Speaker 4: one of the better and most prolific players in Boba
- 15:30Speaker 4: Schett out there, and you're gonna leave him on the
- 15:31Speaker 4: bench and all of a sudden you lose. Anyway, just
- 15:34Speaker 4: saying just per se we don't know what's going to happen. Well,
- 15:37Speaker 4: what if I put both Bachet out there, maybe I
- 15:39Speaker 4: should have taken my chances. So the risk you take
- 15:42Speaker 4: by putting them out there, I think it's the risk
- 15:44Speaker 4: you need to take. Knowing his capability.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Krats. If Bobaschett can play wherever good enough and pass
- 15:52Speaker 1: to their tests, what is the ideal lineup for the
- 15:55Speaker 1: Blue Jays? And we can go with tonight. I know
- 15:58Speaker 1: it's a lefty tonight.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I mean I'll have to go do that nine. But
- 16:05Speaker 3: position wise, position wise, I don't watching him run, watching
- 16:10Speaker 3: the videos of Bo run, I don't know that he
- 16:12Speaker 3: can play shortstop for me, especially when you have a
- 16:14Speaker 3: goal Glover who can play short stop at a goal
- 16:18Speaker 3: glove level and Andre Samenez. So maybe you'd have him
- 16:21Speaker 3: at second base. But for me, lineup wise, I'm sitting
- 16:24Speaker 3: there going I gotta have the best combination of George
- 16:29Speaker 3: Vladdie and and Bo. Like if Bo's ready to go,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I don't care that I have three writings in a row.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I'm coming out with the best, my best guns. Blaze
- 16:39Speaker 3: and Bo is in there to drive guys in. And
- 16:42Speaker 3: you have two guys that get on base at a
- 16:44Speaker 3: monstrous clip in Vlad and George. So to me, that's
- 16:47Speaker 3: where that's where I that's where I set it. That's
- 16:50Speaker 3: where I set my lineup, and it's the first three
- 16:52Speaker 3: boys at the top.
- 16:54Speaker 1: We're back. There's a lot of chatter about what we
- 16:56Speaker 1: were just talking about. Mikey, for example, in the chat
- 17:00Speaker 1: Bashett first time ever playing second base in the World
- 17:02Speaker 1: Series would be crazy. Yeah, uh oh, the Jay's left
- 17:06Speaker 1: off Uriel Rodriguez. I guess we didn't get that part
- 17:10Speaker 1: in there. Uriel Rodriguez is off the roster. Yariel Rodriguez,
- 17:17Speaker 1: he pitched maybe once or twice.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Yeah, seemed to be like the.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Last man in the bullpen for them, so they said,
- 17:24Speaker 1: now we're good.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Well, he was getting significant innings during the year two
- 17:28Speaker 3: for him, and towards the end it started started kind
- 17:31Speaker 3: of flattening out a little bit. That Slider wasn't didn't
- 17:34Speaker 3: have as much death.
- 17:37Speaker 2: There you go.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're they're really focused, probably wishing they had
- 17:41Speaker 1: even one more lefty to try and neutralize the Dodgers.
- 17:45Speaker 1: But man, Mason Fleuard, he's going to be tasked with
- 17:49Speaker 1: a big job.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Right on to me, I think they may even walk
- 17:56Speaker 3: walk show hey more and try to try to get
- 17:59Speaker 3: that lefty that uh, that little pocket there with Freddy
- 18:03Speaker 3: and Max. I'll be interested to see where Doc, how
- 18:07Speaker 3: close Doc puts Max to Freddy there. Because you can't
- 18:10Speaker 3: get all three, you have to be old, you have
- 18:12Speaker 3: to be willing to say, Okay, you know what, We're
- 18:16Speaker 3: just gonna get this guaranteed out. We're gonna push this guy,
- 18:19Speaker 3: you know, the first base, that kind of thing like
- 18:21Speaker 3: you can't you can't say I'll stay in there and
- 18:24Speaker 3: get six batters. Can't do it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Hey, We've got John Smoltz joining us right now. Of
- 18:31Speaker 1: course you'll hear him tonight with Joe Davis on the broadcast,
- 18:33Speaker 1: along with Ken Rosentdald Tom Berducci on Fox and on
- 18:36Speaker 1: the brand new Fox one app. John, great to see you.
- 18:40Speaker 1: We're excited for this one and we'll dive right in.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I know you're in game mode, so I don't know
- 18:47Speaker 1: if you heard anything from our last combo, but how
- 18:49Speaker 1: do you draw up Toronto's lineup situation heading into this
- 18:54Speaker 1: game one? I know it's also a lefty, but now
- 18:56Speaker 1: we've got Bobachett back in the mix.
- 18:58Speaker 5: What do you think, well, the number one thing I
- 19:01Speaker 5: would do is try to be find a way to
- 19:03Speaker 5: not get many left handed batters in that lineup. I
- 19:05Speaker 5: know their left handers have been really good, but against
- 19:09Speaker 5: Blake Snell, you're giving a runway. He is nasty, and
- 19:14Speaker 5: I would find a way. Maybe again, I'll be interested
- 19:18Speaker 5: to see what they do with Ba Shet. I mean,
- 19:20Speaker 5: the easiest thing to do with dhs, but that puts
- 19:22Speaker 5: Springer in the outfield, and then you can put Schneider
- 19:25Speaker 5: in the outfield and maybe even maybe even Straw. But
- 19:30Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing that I'm looking forward to
- 19:32Speaker 5: seeing how the lineup and how many right handers are
- 19:34Speaker 5: in that lineup, because it's the only game he has
- 19:37Speaker 5: to worry about that many right handers. Is Blake Snell's
- 19:41Speaker 5: the only left handed starter?
- 19:43Speaker 3: What have you seen from Blake Snell? What do you
- 19:45Speaker 3: because we were talking about it earlier, like, hey, you
- 19:47Speaker 3: know what, just throw your game. But then I look
- 19:49Speaker 3: at some of the numbers, like I look at George
- 19:51Speaker 3: Springer on curveballs, and you're like, okay, well I can't
- 19:54Speaker 3: land any of those. Like what do you see from
- 19:56Speaker 3: Blake Snell? Do you think even any of these scatter
- 19:59Speaker 3: reports matter for him because of how he's throwing right now.
- 20:03Speaker 5: No, his release points very consistent. When Blake Snell was
- 20:06Speaker 5: not great, he was throwing too many pitches, and yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 5: now the statistics look great in five innings, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 5: twelve punch outs, five walks. When he's come in in
- 20:15Speaker 5: his fastball and throws the change up off of it,
- 20:17Speaker 5: it's deadly. And then he's got a wicked curveball top
- 20:19Speaker 5: to bottom. It's all about command and release point. He's
- 20:23Speaker 5: in that place right now that you dream of being
- 20:25Speaker 5: as a starting pitcher. I don't know how much this
- 20:27Speaker 5: layoff is going to hurt him as far as timing
- 20:30Speaker 5: and rhythm, but I think that's the thing to watch.
- 20:32Speaker 5: You got the best starting pitchers going against the team
- 20:35Speaker 5: that controls the strike zone better than anybody I've seen
- 20:38Speaker 5: in a long time in the Toronto Blue Jays. So
- 20:41Speaker 5: they're gonna be up there hacking, but they're only going
- 20:43Speaker 5: to hack in the strike zone for the most part
- 20:45Speaker 5: and see if they can work his pitch count get
- 20:47Speaker 5: him out of rhythm a little bit. But right now,
- 20:49Speaker 5: no one's been able to do that. He went through
- 20:51Speaker 5: the Milwaukee Brewers like they were nothing, And now the
- 20:54Speaker 5: difference is the Toronto Blue Jays are the Milwaukee Brewers
- 20:57Speaker 5: with power, and that's the biggest different And it's hard
- 21:00Speaker 5: to believe they've led this all a postseason and home runs,
- 21:03Speaker 5: you wouldn't think that'd be the case, but they played
- 21:05Speaker 5: a lot more games, I get it. So that's really
- 21:07Speaker 5: to me. I can't wait to watch just that cat
- 21:11Speaker 5: and mouse game of attacked to strike zone against the
- 21:13Speaker 5: hitters that do a good job attacking the strike zone.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Smallta. I want to bring in, you know, some of
- 21:19Speaker 1: our fan comments on this, so so two things to
- 21:22Speaker 1: tie into what you're talking about right now. One they said,
- 21:25Speaker 1: does it even matter for right handers with the way
- 21:27Speaker 1: that Snell's new changeup is working? And two, I thought
- 21:31Speaker 1: this theory was interesting even though it severely depletes the defense.
- 21:35Speaker 1: They were like, what if Hi, Francis, DH, Tonight, Bo
- 21:39Speaker 1: and Springer in the field, and then you can mess
- 21:42Speaker 1: around later in the game. But what if you roll
- 21:44Speaker 1: out a lineup like that to try and do the
- 21:46Speaker 1: best you can against the south pond in this situation?
- 21:49Speaker 5: I mean, that's again a wrinkle that's going to make
- 21:52Speaker 5: him think about you know, if one of those pitches
- 21:54Speaker 5: aren't on the right handers have an advantage, and it's
- 21:57Speaker 5: just too big. It's just too easy of a laying
- 21:59Speaker 5: against left handed batters. I mean, he's so nasty with
- 22:02Speaker 5: that breaking ball. You have to be an elite left
- 22:04Speaker 5: handed hitter to be able to have that chance. And
- 22:07Speaker 5: right now, even though him and as it came up
- 22:09Speaker 5: hugege in the series with his bat, he's not had
- 22:12Speaker 5: much of the bat this year and more defense. So
- 22:15Speaker 5: it really depends on what John Schneyder wants to do.
- 22:19Speaker 5: I think defensively, he doesn't have to worry as much
- 22:21Speaker 5: against the pitcher he's got out there. He's more of
- 22:23Speaker 5: a strikeout pitcher. And you Savage, so I'm intrigued. I
- 22:28Speaker 5: think I would stack as many left hand right handers
- 22:31Speaker 5: as I possibly could against Blake Snell and then deal
- 22:34Speaker 5: with the rest because really the left handed relievers for
- 22:38Speaker 5: the Dodgers are not exactly rolling out there in the
- 22:43Speaker 5: in the right place either, So it's going to be
- 22:46Speaker 5: an interesting matchup.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Talking about you Savage, this young cat coming in and
- 22:50Speaker 4: doing really well. Talk about what you're looking from him?
- 22:54Speaker 4: How does he get these hitters out? And if he
- 22:57Speaker 4: can get the five or six innings out to be
- 22:58Speaker 4: a plus in my opinion, right.
- 23:00Speaker 5: John, Absolutely. I think it all comes down to he
- 23:03Speaker 5: can't live upstairs with the fastball against the Dodgers. There's
- 23:06Speaker 5: too many good high fastball hitters on their team. But
- 23:09Speaker 5: if he throws enough strikes and that split finger and
- 23:12Speaker 5: that release point, they haven't seen anything like this. He
- 23:15Speaker 5: went through the two teams. He had one little mistake
- 23:18Speaker 5: against the Seattle Mariners in the first inning. But I'm
- 23:20Speaker 5: telling you, this guy he might be made for this
- 23:23Speaker 5: moment only five starts coming into it, and I think
- 23:26Speaker 5: his ability to throw that split at that seven foot
- 23:28Speaker 5: one release point is unlike most hitters release points. They
- 23:32Speaker 5: just don't see that from a pitcher. And so he'll
- 23:35Speaker 5: throw enough strikes with fastballs, he'll be in the game
- 23:37Speaker 5: for five innings. If he doesn't, the Dodgers have a
- 23:39Speaker 5: way of making you come to them, and then that's
- 23:42Speaker 5: when they're at their best. So that split the slider
- 23:46Speaker 5: is actually way better than people think. It's just not
- 23:49Speaker 5: a pitch he's going to have to rely on too
- 23:51Speaker 5: often because if he's got the split going, that's what
- 23:53Speaker 5: he's going to do with.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and we've seen a lot of those splitters work.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I mean, Gosman circle, whatever you call that splitter absolutely felthy.
- 24:01Speaker 4: So they've learned from each other. I want to ask you,
- 24:03Speaker 4: it's like two part question. It's pretty much the same
- 24:06Speaker 4: for the Dodgers to win this World Series. What is
- 24:09Speaker 4: one key thing that they're going to have to pinpoint
- 24:11Speaker 4: on or is it just the same? Keep doing what
- 24:13Speaker 4: you're doing if you're the Dodgers, don't change a thing.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the first time I've seen Dave Roberts
- 24:18Speaker 5: sitting on the dugouts bench for a long time, Wathington
- 24:21Speaker 5: starters go seven, eight, nine innings. That's not been the
- 24:24Speaker 5: Dodgers of the past. So if that stays the same
- 24:26Speaker 5: and you don't expose the bullpen, which has been a
- 24:29Speaker 5: little bit of an issue going after the end of
- 24:32Speaker 5: the regular season, I think it comes down to the
- 24:34Speaker 5: offense not striking out too much. If they don't strike
- 24:38Speaker 5: out that much, their offense is good enough to put
- 24:40Speaker 5: up the numbers required to win. The only thing every
- 24:42Speaker 5: once in a while the Dodgers run into is if
- 24:44Speaker 5: you strike them out, you've eliminated their ability to beat
- 24:49Speaker 5: you with slug and that really came into play a
- 24:53Speaker 5: little bit for Otani until he hit those three home runs.
- 24:56Speaker 5: So it's a battle of the best starting pitching we've
- 25:00Speaker 5: seen in a long time against a really, really good offense.
- 25:03Speaker 5: And then the starting pitching for Toronto has been average
- 25:07Speaker 5: to good, but it's not gonna have the the the
- 25:12Speaker 5: depth that the Dodgers currently have, and going against their lineup,
- 25:16Speaker 5: the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen better be great, and if
- 25:19Speaker 5: they're great, they got a chance to win the World Series.
- 25:23Speaker 4: And talking about bullpen, the middle relief, how does Toronto
- 25:27Speaker 4: they get to that middle relief early. I know they
- 25:30Speaker 4: don't swing a many pitches outside his own and they're
- 25:33Speaker 4: trying to get that pitch count up, But I believe,
- 25:35Speaker 4: in my opinion, for them to have a chance, they
- 25:38Speaker 4: have to find a way to get to that middle
- 25:39Speaker 4: relief to put a little more pressure on these guys.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Yeah, they have to they basically if they win the
- 25:45Speaker 5: World Series, I can make an argument they went through
- 25:48Speaker 5: some of the best pitching I've ever seen that didn't
- 25:50Speaker 5: look great. They made the Yankees look like they weren't
- 25:52Speaker 5: even that good. They made the Seattle Mariners starting pitcher
- 25:55Speaker 5: look like they weren't even one of the best stats
- 25:57Speaker 5: in the American League. And if they do that to
- 25:59Speaker 5: the Los Ange Dodgers, that means they've knocked them out early,
- 26:02Speaker 5: they've gotten into their bro pen, and they've caused havoc.
- 26:05Speaker 5: That is the way that they're gonna win the World Series.
- 26:07Speaker 5: They cannot, in my opinion, effectively beat the Dodgers if
- 26:13Speaker 5: those starters are going seven innings, every one of them
- 26:15Speaker 5: are eight. And I think that's gonna be the blueprint
- 26:18Speaker 5: to try to figure out. Even though they're aggressive and
- 26:20Speaker 5: they see less pitches per at bat than anybody, they
- 26:23Speaker 5: have a way of making sure the pitcher, if he's
- 26:26Speaker 5: not on his game and in the strike zone, then
- 26:28Speaker 5: they're gonna they're gonna pile up some pitches. They're not
- 26:31Speaker 5: three swingers. That's the beauty of it. They don't just
- 26:34Speaker 5: swing to swing. They swing in the strike zone and
- 26:36Speaker 5: really command it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Well.
- 26:38Speaker 3: All right, Well, if you were to give advice to
- 26:40Speaker 3: the Dodgers team, but also Blake Snell or even you know,
- 26:44Speaker 3: any pitcher that's thrown what's it like throwing in the SkyDome.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Obviously it's Roger Center, but when you threw in it,
- 26:50Speaker 3: it was a SkyDome. You have some experience, what do
- 26:53Speaker 3: you give them? And as far as advice for the
- 26:56Speaker 3: crowd and the different kind of noise that there's gonna
- 26:58Speaker 3: be tonight.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Well it's going to be the loudest crowd they faced
- 27:01Speaker 5: all year. I know Philadelphia is extreme and it's an
- 27:03Speaker 5: outdoor stadium, and you might give them the not an
- 27:06Speaker 5: outdoor stadium, but in a boat in a dome. I've
- 27:08Speaker 5: never heard of crowd this loud out of my life.
- 27:11Speaker 5: They're hungry, obviously, since nineteen ninety three, they haven't had
- 27:14Speaker 5: this come their way. And I think the biggest thing
- 27:16Speaker 5: is the Dodgers since last year being down two zero
- 27:20Speaker 5: against the San Diego Padres, they're a different bunch. They
- 27:23Speaker 5: rallied together, they've done things players only. They're a humble,
- 27:27Speaker 5: confident team and they're probably as calm as they've ever been.
- 27:30Speaker 5: So I don't think that noise is going to bother them.
- 27:32Speaker 5: What they've been through. You got to remember a year
- 27:35Speaker 5: change ago they were going to be eliminated and the
- 27:37Speaker 5: narrative was going to be different. And since then, whether
- 27:40Speaker 5: it's flying on their own, dinners on their own, players
- 27:44Speaker 5: have separated themselves from the noise literally and they have flourished,
- 27:49Speaker 5: and they have been through pretty much everything you could
- 27:53Speaker 5: go through. So that's why they're the favorites. That's why
- 27:55Speaker 5: they're confident. And I'm not so sure the noise is
- 27:57Speaker 5: even going to bother them, but it's sure is going
- 27:59Speaker 5: to be loud.
- 28:00Speaker 2: All right.
- 28:01Speaker 3: This might be a dumb question, if you did you
- 28:03Speaker 3: ever throw a Game one in the World Series? I
- 28:05Speaker 3: should have researched this before. Okay, what's more pressure? Game
- 28:10Speaker 3: one to set a tone or Game two or like
- 28:14Speaker 3: following a loss to then reset the guys back.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I think the biggest game always is Game one, to
- 28:21Speaker 5: pass the baton onto your teammate. Unfortunately, the game one
- 28:25Speaker 5: I won in ninety six, we won Game two and
- 28:27Speaker 5: then we didn't win another game. That's what the Toronto
- 28:31Speaker 5: Blue Jays did. They were the last team to do that,
- 28:33Speaker 5: lose their first two games at home and then come
- 28:35Speaker 5: back and win a series, although be it in seven.
- 28:38Speaker 5: And I think the other interesting thing which is crazy
- 28:40Speaker 5: to stats or stats, any team that has swept coming
- 28:43Speaker 5: into a World Series, team that has won their previous
- 28:47Speaker 5: series in seven games, the team that has swept has
- 28:50Speaker 5: lost every World Series appearance, which is crazy. That talks
- 28:56Speaker 5: about the layoff, and that also talks about the team
- 28:59Speaker 5: coming in that that had won a seven game series.
- 29:02Speaker 5: So take that for whatever that is. But that's out there.
- 29:05Speaker 5: And I think winning game one is always important and
- 29:08Speaker 5: I think it sets the tone, but in this case
- 29:10Speaker 5: it's probably more important than ever for the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 29:14Speaker 5: They know they got to win at least one game
- 29:16Speaker 5: at home, and game one would be an unbelievable lift
- 29:20Speaker 5: for this town and that team.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Hey, smolty, with John Schneider kind of learning as he
- 29:27Speaker 1: goes deeper into the postseason, do you think he'll do
- 29:30Speaker 1: anything funky bullpen wise in the World Series. I mean,
- 29:33Speaker 1: for example, I keep bringing this up, Okay, Kevin Gosten's
- 29:36Speaker 1: pitching Game two. Could we see gossmin on his throat
- 29:39Speaker 1: day appear later in this series?
- 29:41Speaker 2: Right?
- 29:41Speaker 1: He appeared in Game seven for them. It seems like
- 29:44Speaker 1: Chris Bassett had a nice inning for them. Maybe you
- 29:46Speaker 1: see more of him. I would imagine that there's a key,
- 29:50Speaker 1: And I know you're always big on this to limit
- 29:52Speaker 1: looks right, You don't want to see Louis Barland in
- 29:55Speaker 1: the same spot every damn game against the same guys
- 29:58Speaker 1: or eventually you're gonna get.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. I think Barlin is his most trusted
- 30:04Speaker 5: right hand or in trouble. But I believe that what
- 30:07Speaker 5: John Schneider and every manager that they go through, they
- 30:09Speaker 5: learn that trusting your players doesn't always work out because
- 30:13Speaker 5: the execution doesn't work out, but you have to have trust.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I don't think he can go away from little the
- 30:19Speaker 5: left hander, even though that environment really got him in
- 30:21Speaker 5: the eighth inning. Maybe that's not the scenario to put
- 30:24Speaker 5: him in. But he's big, very big on trusting his
- 30:27Speaker 5: players and the roles that they're in. He trust trusts
- 30:30Speaker 5: his picture that if he brings in a starter to
- 30:32Speaker 5: your point, he's going to trust him. And I think
- 30:34Speaker 5: that's great. But I think the biggest thing that you'll
- 30:37Speaker 5: learn about players and pitchers when they're in a moment
- 30:39Speaker 5: that's too big their eyes or whatever their body, you
- 30:42Speaker 5: start seeing things that you might have to throw caution
- 30:46Speaker 5: to the win. And I think for Barlin, he thinks
- 30:49Speaker 5: and he's unbelievable. Eve though he's giving up some home runs,
- 30:52Speaker 5: he's faced some really really daunting tasks. If you think
- 30:55Speaker 5: about all the times he's been used, he believes that
- 30:59Speaker 5: every day that he puts him in that fastball and
- 31:01Speaker 5: slider is gonna play. So it's a great question, and
- 31:05Speaker 5: what he's learned over the last seven games, he hasn't
- 31:09Speaker 5: had to answer in a negative way because they've moved on,
- 31:12Speaker 5: but he knows he's always a moment away from being
- 31:14Speaker 5: asked a question. When your starters don't go deep, which
- 31:17Speaker 5: they're not going to go deep for Toronto at least
- 31:20Speaker 5: we haven't seen it. You're gonna have to rely on
- 31:22Speaker 5: that bullpen, and that bullpen is going to have its
- 31:26Speaker 5: hands full big time now with the Los Angeles Dodgers
- 31:31Speaker 5: and the ability for them to sluck.
- 31:33Speaker 3: John, can you confirm that this is the last World
- 31:36Speaker 3: Series you'll do for a few years because you're going
- 31:38Speaker 3: to put your name in the hat for the brave job.
- 31:42Speaker 5: No, No, I barely get to go to the Braves
- 31:45Speaker 5: game and be in that. I think we're so far
- 31:48Speaker 5: removed from that organization. I don't even know if they
- 31:51Speaker 5: know that we're in the Hall of Fame. So now
- 31:54Speaker 5: that's going to be somebody else that follows a different
- 31:57Speaker 5: criteria of they're going to manage that baseball team moving forward.
- 32:03Speaker 3: What do you think? What do you think? What do
- 32:05Speaker 3: you think they need. What do you see them them
- 32:08Speaker 3: needing to put in that position based on what they
- 32:10Speaker 3: already have on that roster.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Personally, I think they need somebody that can convey to
- 32:15Speaker 5: some of their star players what that star player needs
- 32:18Speaker 5: roll to be to be successful. I think they need
- 32:20Speaker 5: to handle the inside of that clubhouse better than the
- 32:23Speaker 5: numbers that everybody seems to be focused on in the analytics.
- 32:27Speaker 5: And they got to get guys pulling in the right
- 32:29Speaker 5: direction so that there guys that they signed are there
- 32:33Speaker 5: for a long time. And yes, health is the number
- 32:36Speaker 5: one reason they'll be successful this year. If they stay healthy,
- 32:39Speaker 5: they're going to be successful. But you still have to
- 32:41Speaker 5: be able to pull in the same direction and guys
- 32:44Speaker 5: do the things you got to do to win baseball games.
- 32:46Speaker 5: You can't just rely on awestruck talent that looks great
- 32:50Speaker 5: on paper and looks good on the back of a
- 32:53Speaker 5: baseball card.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's got to happen from the jump. Obviously,
- 32:57Speaker 1: it was a slow start. I get that they had
- 32:58Speaker 1: the rough road trip at well, but they never recovered
- 33:01Speaker 1: after a week of baseball. It's just crazy. Until the
- 33:04Speaker 1: end of the season they got in a roll. But anyway,

- 34:17Speaker 1: Let's sizzle Baby. We got the umpires announced for the
- 34:22Speaker 1: World Series and we're going to show you. Thanks to
- 34:25Speaker 1: Umpire Auditor their season rankings out of ninety two umpires.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Will Little ranks thirtieth, Adrian Johnson in Game two ranks
- 34:34Speaker 1: seventy fifth, Mark Wegner in Game three ranks thirty eighth.
- 34:38Speaker 1: John Tom Payne ranks thirty first. He's doing Game four.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Clap it up for Alan Porter, who was epic in
- 34:45Speaker 1: that game. Five of the Alds going to billion innings
- 34:49Speaker 1: and he's ranked third. Adam Hamari's ranked fifteenth out of
- 34:53Speaker 1: ninety two, and Jordan Baker is last. He's ranked sixty
- 34:56Speaker 1: fourth out of ninety two. Isn't Baker the dude that's
- 34:58Speaker 1: a monster, the tallest it's like six billion. Yeah, he's good, dude, right,
- 35:04Speaker 1: very good, but he's very tall.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I'm surprising.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Sixty four that's a little it's a little low for
- 35:09Speaker 4: I mean, I review said, I think it's it's too high.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I would say for him, I want him lower. So
- 35:15Speaker 2: pick it up, Jordan, let's go. Man. Nah, that's my guy.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Good dude.
- 35:19Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know how they pick him.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:23Speaker 4: I thought you would go by top seven, but what
- 35:25Speaker 4: are you going to do now? Top seven gosh, why
- 35:27Speaker 4: I would have one guy in the top ten.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like a broken record crats because
- 35:32Speaker 1: we do this all the time, and we do this
- 35:34Speaker 1: for every round, and I feel like the league gets
- 35:36Speaker 1: pissed that we talk about this. But this is why
- 35:38Speaker 1: we're an independent show. I don't We don't have to
- 35:40Speaker 1: answer to everyone. And really, if someone told us all
- 35:42Speaker 1: about the system and provided more transparency, I think it
- 35:45Speaker 1: would be a really big deal for a fan base,
- 35:48Speaker 1: for all of Major League Baseball fans to understand, Hey,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I just want to know, like what went into this,
- 35:52Speaker 1: What happened to the number one guy? What happened to
- 35:54Speaker 1: the number seven guy?
- 35:55Speaker 2: Right?
- 35:55Speaker 1: Like what he wasn't nice? Like what did he do wrong?
- 35:58Speaker 2: I don't know. That's very curious.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he doesn't have enough sin already. Okay, neither does
- 36:02Speaker 1: tray Is Savage and he's starting Game one.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Like, to me, the equivalent of this is saying, Okay,
- 36:10Speaker 3: I know, I know what just I know, the Mariners lost,
- 36:13Speaker 3: but man cal Raley had a great year, so he's
- 36:16Speaker 3: he's gonna get to play in the World Series two.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Like That's That's what it kind of feels like with
- 36:21Speaker 3: the umpires, sometimes these guys want this. These guys definitely
- 36:25Speaker 3: want to be in the World Series one. They get
- 36:27Speaker 3: a you know, it's prestigious. It's like, hey, you know
- 36:29Speaker 3: what I did this, I did the twenty twenty five
- 36:32Speaker 3: World Series. I did you know? My first ever championship
- 36:35Speaker 3: series was twenty two. They talk about that stuff and
- 36:38Speaker 3: they get bonuses for this. So why can't we tie
- 36:42Speaker 3: it to success and failures in the season. And it
- 36:46Speaker 3: doesn't have to be one through seven. It just has
- 36:49Speaker 3: to be more transparent. Like you said, just tell us
- 36:52Speaker 3: how you picked it. And to me, when you don't
- 36:54Speaker 3: tell us how you picked these guys, it just means
- 36:57Speaker 3: it's random. It just means they pick guys that have
- 37:00Speaker 3: some seniority. The thing that I think is cool about
- 37:02Speaker 3: this whole group, I was in the minor leagues with
- 37:05Speaker 3: every one of these guys before they were full time
- 37:09Speaker 3: big leaguers. Like Adrian Johnson. I saw him in the
- 37:11Speaker 3: minor leagues but he had big league time, Mark Wagner,
- 37:15Speaker 3: same thing, everybody else, Like we came kind of came
- 37:18Speaker 3: up through the minor leagues together and then they've been
- 37:21Speaker 3: they've been established. So for me, I like seeing all
- 37:24Speaker 3: these names it's really cool because you don't have the
- 37:27Speaker 3: you don't have the old guard, many of the old
- 37:29Speaker 3: guard in there right now.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, the problem to me is that it appears as
- 37:35Speaker 1: if there is an everyone gets a metal situation, like
- 37:38Speaker 1: you can't be umping in the show for a long
- 37:40Speaker 1: time and not get certain playoff games or even World
- 37:43Speaker 1: Series games, And that just doesn't make sense. I mean,
- 37:45Speaker 1: we're in sports. It's about competition. It's an honor just
- 37:48Speaker 1: to be an umpire in the major leagues. So once
- 37:50Speaker 1: you got that, great, Now, if you're not one of
- 37:53Speaker 1: the best behind the plate.
- 37:55Speaker 2: That's okay.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You don't have to call pitches behind the plate. It's okay.
- 37:59Speaker 1: You can do that in the regular season, but in
- 38:01Speaker 1: the postseason, I just don't think that's the time. But again,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I feel like a broken record on this, but it's true.
- 38:07Speaker 3: If everybody wants a medal, if they want to do
- 38:09Speaker 3: it where everybody wants a medal and you know what,
- 38:12Speaker 3: you want to be behind a dish on one of
- 38:14Speaker 3: the games, We're going to continue the same route that
- 38:17Speaker 3: we have right now, where it's kind of random's kind
- 38:19Speaker 3: of seniority kind of thing, like I need everybody got
- 38:22Speaker 3: it top seven Top seven get all seven games behind
- 38:26Speaker 3: a dish doesn't mean you're gonna work in the field,
- 38:28Speaker 3: and the guys that are working in the field not
- 38:30Speaker 3: necessarily going to work behind home plate. You earn it,
- 38:33Speaker 3: you get there bout a being it's over.
- 38:36Speaker 1: And if you're the worst in the league, you get
- 38:38Speaker 1: the celebrity softball game next year, relegation. I'm kidding, but
- 38:45Speaker 1: like I just I don't out of words for how
- 38:48Speaker 1: this works where you don't look down and and I
- 38:50Speaker 1: don't need one through seven, Like even if it's just, hey,
- 38:53Speaker 1: we got the top twenty five in here, because maybe
- 38:55Speaker 1: there's some issue or sceniarto whatever, it's just like the
- 38:57Speaker 1: fact that we have some guys that are ranked, you know,
- 39:00Speaker 1: pretty low, like we've got a seventy five out of
- 39:02Speaker 1: ninety two. That's just that's not cool.
- 39:05Speaker 2: And they can make their own rankings for it, like
- 39:07Speaker 2: they do.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I think that's part of the die. They have their
- 39:10Speaker 1: own rankings, but they don't all.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Have to do it.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Maybe these are the rankings that came out with the
- 39:14Speaker 4: top seven transparent tell us that all right, all right,
- 39:18Speaker 4: I'm not saying let me see, I mean, maybe something
- 39:22Speaker 4: they've seen the whole year, Like you know, this guy
- 39:25Speaker 4: his numbers transpired to be number six.
- 39:27Speaker 2: We don't know this. They don't go by this. What
- 39:29Speaker 2: you know.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I agree, show it, show it. I would love that
- 39:32Speaker 1: it's not the FBI. Show us the results. Thank you
- 39:35Speaker 1: very much. Time for an MLB nine innings twenty five
- 39:38Speaker 1: conversation about the World Series with our guy looking fresh
- 39:42Speaker 1: for Kevin Polar Yeah, he's fresh, he's got it and
- 39:45Speaker 1: he's ready to go.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Kp.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Happy World Series day to you. And what do you
- 39:50Speaker 1: have for us tonight? I mean, you've been a little
- 39:54Speaker 1: nostradamis in terms of predicting what's going on with the
- 39:57Speaker 1: Blue Jays. So would you like to make one fan
- 39:59Speaker 1: base happy and pissed the other side off?
- 40:03Speaker 6: First off, all I want to say, I'm just this
- 40:05Speaker 6: is exciting for me. I mean, as you guys can attest,
- 40:08Speaker 6: you work your whole life to play in a World
- 40:10Speaker 6: Series and unfortunately I didn't get an opportunity to do
- 40:13Speaker 6: that as a player. So me kind of being able
- 40:15Speaker 6: to hop on the back of this Toronto Blue Jays
- 40:17Speaker 6: team kind of be brought back into that ecosystem, Like
- 40:20Speaker 6: it's exciting for me, you know, my heart's kind of
- 40:22Speaker 6: beating fast. I got a room right here looking at
- 40:25Speaker 6: the Rogers Center, and I mean the line right now
- 40:28Speaker 6: just to be outside the stadium is crazy. Like the
- 40:31Speaker 6: fact that I'm going to get to step foot. I
- 40:34Speaker 6: never went as a fan either, so like this is
- 40:36Speaker 6: really exciting for me in terms of predictions. So I've
- 40:40Speaker 6: been getting a lot of questions from friends at home
- 40:41Speaker 6: and for the audience out there that don't know. I
- 40:45Speaker 6: grew up in southern California. That's where I was born.
- 40:47Speaker 6: I was a Dodger fan my whole life until I
- 40:49Speaker 6: got into professional baseball. So I got a lot of
- 40:51Speaker 6: friends and family still back at home that are Dodger fans.
- 40:55Speaker 6: Some of my family converted to being Blue Jay fans,
- 40:58Speaker 6: and then I took them through the Ringer the league,
- 41:00Speaker 6: so they're.
- 41:00Speaker 7: Actually very confused.
- 41:02Speaker 6: But I think more than any series that I can remember,
- 41:05Speaker 6: I think this has got the biggest randomness to it.
- 41:09Speaker 6: I mean, I could see the Dodgers winning in four,
- 41:11Speaker 6: and I could see the Blue Jays winning in seven,
- 41:13Speaker 6: and pretty much anywhere in between.
- 41:15Speaker 7: But I need to I want.
- 41:17Speaker 6: To see the way they deploy this lineup before I
- 41:19Speaker 6: kind of make a prediction because I'm even though that
- 41:23Speaker 6: I'm kind of in that inner circle with the Toronto
- 41:25Speaker 6: Blue Jays, I don't know entirely what bo is.
- 41:28Speaker 7: Capable of doing.
- 41:30Speaker 6: You know, I think he is the great equalizer when
- 41:32Speaker 6: it comes to just adding pure talent to the Blue
- 41:36Speaker 6: Jays lineup. So I'm curious to see how he's used tonight.
- 41:39Speaker 3: All right, Well, if you're kind of in the inner circle,
- 41:41Speaker 3: maybe just on the outer circle, and you're looking, have
- 41:44Speaker 3: you seen him run? Have you been on the field
- 41:47Speaker 3: always seen his like videos from like the roof of
- 41:49Speaker 3: the Rogers Center.
- 41:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been. I've been in there.
- 41:52Speaker 6: I saw him running Seattle. I saw him run the
- 41:55Speaker 6: other day. I've had a one on one conversation with him. Obviously,
- 42:00Speaker 6: the injury has it's it's it's public knowledge, like it's
- 42:03Speaker 6: not an injury that's going to heal in this short
- 42:05Speaker 6: amount of time that he needed in order for it
- 42:08Speaker 6: to heal. But he's feeling confident every day was a step.
- 42:12Speaker 7: In the right direction.
- 42:14Speaker 6: What he's been doing behind the scenes in terms of
- 42:17Speaker 6: you know, his routine hitting and keeping his arm in
- 42:20Speaker 6: shape and kind of recreating that speed of the game
- 42:25Speaker 6: in the box and if there's one guy that I
- 42:26Speaker 6: would bet on out of all the players in Major
- 42:29Speaker 6: League Baseball, he's near that top of the list of
- 42:32Speaker 6: guys that I would feel comfortable rolling into a batter's box,
- 42:36Speaker 6: not playing in over, you know, a month and a half,
- 42:38Speaker 6: almost two months. I think he's that good of a hitter.
- 42:41Speaker 6: I think his hand eye coornation is that good. I
- 42:43Speaker 6: think he's born to be.
- 42:44Speaker 7: A professional hitter.
- 42:45Speaker 6: And he might not be the same guy, but I
- 42:47Speaker 6: think his you know, sixty seventy eighty percent, whatever he
- 42:51Speaker 6: feels like he is, is better than you know, some
- 42:53Speaker 6: other options that they have.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Did you see any change in the running because the
- 42:57Speaker 3: running videos I've seen again they're from long distance away,
- 43:02Speaker 3: maybe from your hotel room, I'm not sure, but it
- 43:05Speaker 3: didn't look good. It didn't look like somebody that I'm like, Okay,
- 43:07Speaker 3: I'm not debating the high eye hand coordination traject getting
- 43:10Speaker 3: his at bats. He's going to be able to He'll
- 43:12Speaker 3: be ready with a stick. But did you see any
- 43:15Speaker 3: change from Seattle to hear.
- 43:18Speaker 7: I think it's the way he's been bouncing back.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, he looks a little hobbled when he's running,
- 43:22Speaker 6: but for someone who's also you know, had to come
- 43:25Speaker 6: back from some injuries and never like an injury.
- 43:28Speaker 7: Like he's had.
- 43:28Speaker 6: But you have to kind of check the boxes when
- 43:30Speaker 6: you go out there run the field. No one's really
- 43:33Speaker 6: going out there, you know, making the tightest turns around
- 43:36Speaker 6: the bases. You know, the the risk reward of him
- 43:39Speaker 6: going out there, and you know, showing he could run
- 43:42Speaker 6: at one hundred percent is not worth the risk of injury.
- 43:44Speaker 7: I think, and as you guys know, you guys.
- 43:47Speaker 6: Played a game. Adrenaline is a crazy drug. You know,
- 43:49Speaker 6: he gets out there and he's able to kind of
- 43:51Speaker 6: move around, you know, how well is he going to
- 43:53Speaker 6: be able to move side to side? Where does he
- 43:55Speaker 6: fit in into this Blue Jays roster? Is it at
- 43:58Speaker 6: second base? I don't believe it would be shortstop? And
- 44:01Speaker 6: I think the big thing to also remember with this
- 44:03Speaker 6: too is Georgia isn't one hundred percent either. I don't
- 44:07Speaker 6: feel confident with him kinda and I don't think the
- 44:09Speaker 6: Blue Jays feel no confident en rolling George out there
- 44:12Speaker 6: in right field. I think of a situation, you know,
- 44:16Speaker 6: you know what happened where you know that was the
- 44:18Speaker 6: last case scenario and they needed George to go out
- 44:20Speaker 6: there for a couple of innings, he would do it.
- 44:22Speaker 6: But for him to start out there, given what he
- 44:25Speaker 6: had just gone through, you know, less than a week ago,
- 44:28Speaker 6: getting hit off the knee. I mean, he was even
- 44:30Speaker 6: uncertain going into game six. In Game seven, and as
- 44:33Speaker 6: you could tell early on in that game, his swings
- 44:37Speaker 6: weren't great. You could tell the knee was bothering him.
- 44:39Speaker 6: He took that swing, he fell to a knee. You
- 44:41Speaker 6: could see him grimacing in pain. But once again, the
- 44:44Speaker 6: most amazing drug in the world, adrenaline. Playing in front
- 44:47Speaker 6: of forty seven thousand people. Did you see how high
- 44:50Speaker 6: he got off the ground running the first base with
- 44:52Speaker 6: a guy with the bum knee. So only imagine what
- 44:55Speaker 6: Bo would feel like if he was able to, you know,
- 44:58Speaker 6: not only run out of the ugo out for maybe
- 45:00Speaker 6: the opening ceremonies, but maybe get a chance to pinch
- 45:04Speaker 6: it or maybe even play second base. Like I think,
- 45:07Speaker 6: you go out there and you see what he has
- 45:09Speaker 6: to give you. And obviously he's been on the field
- 45:11Speaker 6: the last couple of days, they have a better indication
- 45:13Speaker 6: of where he's at. But game adrenaline is a crazy thing,
- 45:17Speaker 6: especially on the stage.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Love adrenaline, love it, eat it up.
- 45:21Speaker 4: I know you ate it up with all those nasty
- 45:24Speaker 4: catches you had there in center field.
- 45:26Speaker 7: One.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Talk about how this atmosphere is going to be in Toronto.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I know you kind of talked a little bit about
- 45:31Speaker 4: it a while ago. Talk about the atmosphere and talk
- 45:34Speaker 4: about how they get on Blake Snell early and often,
- 45:37Speaker 4: because when they score early, they really find ways to
- 45:41Speaker 4: win ball games.
- 45:41Speaker 2: That one talking about the blue Jays.
- 45:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I think there's no secret in baseball anymore. When
- 45:47Speaker 6: the Blue Jays are in the playoffs and their teams
- 45:49Speaker 6: are very good, they have a true home field advantage,
- 45:52Speaker 6: especially when the roof is closed. I don't think there's
- 45:54Speaker 6: a louder place in baseball than the Rogers Center when
- 45:58Speaker 6: it's rocking. And you know, credit to the Seattle Mariners,
- 46:02Speaker 6: you know, in that Game seven, they were able to
- 46:04Speaker 6: score a little bit early and that and and baseball
- 46:06Speaker 6: is a weird sport. Baseball is a very reactionary sport.
- 46:09Speaker 6: Like it's hard to just kind of manufacture noise, and
- 46:13Speaker 6: you know, people that come to watch games, it's hard
- 46:15Speaker 6: to be loud and be excited when the game is
- 46:19Speaker 6: not that exciting. And when the other team is winning
- 46:22Speaker 6: and you don't really have much to kind of show
- 46:24Speaker 6: for it.
- 46:25Speaker 7: But what the Blue Jays did.
- 46:26Speaker 6: A really good job is crawling back into that game.
- 46:28Speaker 6: Then obviously the Springer moment, you know, I'm surprised the
- 46:31Speaker 6: roof is still on that stadium with how loud it
- 46:34Speaker 6: was in there. It was one of the best scenes
- 46:36Speaker 6: that I had ever seen in baseball.
- 46:37Speaker 7: And I was a player and.
- 46:39Speaker 6: Got to witness Jose Batista's batflip in Game five, and
- 46:43Speaker 6: there was Honestly, I think the difference was there was
- 46:47Speaker 6: this There was this build up to Jose's home run,
- 46:50Speaker 6: like there was the airs, The stadium was kind of loud, loud, loud.
- 46:53Speaker 7: And then the roof blew off.
- 46:55Speaker 6: George Springer's going into that inning, that stadium was almost
- 46:58Speaker 6: dead silent, and then there was this very very slow
- 47:01Speaker 6: bill to Obviously, when Springer hit the home run, it
- 47:03Speaker 6: was probably the loudest I'd ever heard of stadium. But
- 47:06Speaker 6: I've been talking about this and you like me coming
- 47:08Speaker 6: out with crazy predictions and crazy thoughts.
- 47:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 47:12Speaker 7: As great as it is to host the playoff game and.
- 47:14Speaker 6: Especially a World Series, I always feel like the pressures
- 47:17Speaker 6: on the home team. When you're playing at home, you're
- 47:20Speaker 6: expected to win. You have all these people coming to
- 47:22Speaker 6: watch you. This is the first World Series game in
- 47:25Speaker 6: thirty two years held in this great city. I think
- 47:28Speaker 6: you saw the effects of that in the CS Series,
- 47:32Speaker 6: when you know, they had all the rest, they had
- 47:35Speaker 6: their starting pitching lineup, they had a fresh bullpen. You know,
- 47:38Speaker 6: they got to the they finally won a playoff series
- 47:41Speaker 6: since twenty sixteen. Seattle's coming off this very long emotional series.
- 47:47Speaker 6: You know, every reason to kind of bet against the
- 47:49Speaker 6: Seattle Mariners and hop on the Blue Jays bandwagon, But
- 47:52Speaker 6: I always feel like the pressures.
- 47:54Speaker 7: On that home team. For that reason, baseball is very reactionary.
- 47:57Speaker 6: If you don't give the fans something to kind of
- 48:00Speaker 6: react to, you know, then you start to feel the tension,
- 48:03Speaker 6: You start to feel the nerves. And I think you know,
- 48:06Speaker 6: seeing that first hand in the Rogers Center and pretty
- 48:09Speaker 6: much everywhere else you go in baseball, you feel that
- 48:11Speaker 6: as a home team. I felt it when I played
- 48:13Speaker 6: in Atlanta. When we were there, we didn't give them
- 48:15Speaker 6: a lot to cheer about, and then you could kind
- 48:17Speaker 6: of feel this nervous energy into the stadium.
- 48:19Speaker 7: And not only now are.
- 48:20Speaker 6: You trying to battle the team you're playing against. You're
- 48:23Speaker 6: trying to find a way to energize these fans again.
- 48:25Speaker 6: So I'm always a little skeptical to like put a
- 48:29Speaker 6: lot of stock into the home team early on in
- 48:31Speaker 6: the series. I feel like as you kind of get
- 48:34Speaker 6: into the flow of the series, I think home field
- 48:36Speaker 6: advantage plays a little bit more.
- 48:38Speaker 3: So did you purposely duck Todd's question?
- 48:42Speaker 7: Which?
- 48:45Speaker 3: Yeah? Because is it because of all your elite success?
- 48:50Speaker 3: Kevin Pilar is going to be active, You're gonna rip
- 48:53Speaker 3: your jersey off and you're batting third tonight. You got
- 48:56Speaker 3: three bangers, You're ten for twenty five. You own Blakes.
- 49:00Speaker 3: So that's why you're not saying anything, but we need
- 49:02Speaker 3: to hear how how can the Blue Jays own him?
- 49:04Speaker 6: Yeah, much like the first pitch, Like I said, I'm
- 49:07Speaker 6: a team guy. I don't like the attention on me. Yes,
- 49:09Speaker 6: I am well aware of my success of Blake Snell,
- 49:12Speaker 6: and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be asked about
- 49:14Speaker 6: it on Sportsnet tonight to kind of talk about what
- 49:16Speaker 6: I would do. Blake Snell is an elite pitcher with
- 49:19Speaker 6: elite stuff. I think what the Blue Jays offer is
- 49:22Speaker 6: the ability to swing at strikes put the ball in
- 49:24Speaker 6: play early. I think if they can eliminate strikeouts. And
- 49:28Speaker 6: I never pitched, and obviously Kratsey, you probably have a
- 49:30Speaker 6: little bit more knowledge in this department.
- 49:32Speaker 7: When you have a guy.
- 49:33Speaker 6: Like Blake Snell that is an elite competitor that loves
- 49:36Speaker 6: punching tickets. If you don't allow this guy to punch tickets,
- 49:40Speaker 6: does he try to reach back for more? Does he
- 49:42Speaker 6: start trying to throw wipe out pitches earlier? If he's
- 49:44Speaker 6: not getting a lot of swing and miss. Does that
- 49:46Speaker 6: kind of affect the way he feels about his stuff
- 49:48Speaker 6: even if he's getting outs with those things. You know,
- 49:51Speaker 6: I don't know Blake Snell personally, but I would love
- 49:53Speaker 6: to get your take on that. If you have a
- 49:55Speaker 6: guy who loves his stuff and he's you know, one
- 49:59Speaker 6: of the best pitch in baseball punching tickets, getting swing
- 50:02Speaker 6: and miss, and he's not getting those things, even though
- 50:04Speaker 6: he may be getting out.
- 50:06Speaker 7: Does that affect him? But what I think the Blue Jays.
- 50:08Speaker 6: Do in order to counteract Blake Snell's aggressive or greatness,
- 50:13Speaker 6: it's continue to be aggressive, don't allow him to get
- 50:15Speaker 6: deep into counts. Don't allow him to get two strikes
- 50:17Speaker 6: where he can start to throw his wipeout stuff. I
- 50:20Speaker 6: think the Blue Jays, and I've talked to the hitting
- 50:23Speaker 6: coaches there with the Toronto Blue Jays, what they are
- 50:25Speaker 6: really good is they want you to be you. They
- 50:28Speaker 6: want you to stick to your strengths. For me, against
- 50:31Speaker 6: Blake Snell, I usually tunneled the inner half of the plate.
- 50:34Speaker 6: I wanted to battle the fastball slider. I wanted to
- 50:36Speaker 6: avoid the fastball and the change up on the outer half.
- 50:40Speaker 6: I felt like I had more success trying to pull
- 50:42Speaker 6: the ball against Blake Snell. Every once in a while
- 50:45Speaker 6: I could get that change up that started middle in
- 50:47Speaker 6: and kind of leaked over the plate and maybe I can,
- 50:49Speaker 6: you know, ass out it, flip it over the shortstoff head.
- 50:52Speaker 6: And to me, the curveball is like the trap pitch
- 50:54Speaker 6: with him. It's nasty, it looks like a strike, and
- 50:58Speaker 6: I think if you could try to eliminate that, I
- 51:00Speaker 6: think the Blue Jays can, you know, have some success off.
- 51:04Speaker 1: You're going up.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Against one of the game's best whose seers you know, uh,
- 51:08Speaker 6: you know, pitching at his best right now, and I
- 51:11Speaker 6: think that is the most interesting storyline in this series
- 51:14Speaker 6: is the elite starting pitching versus the bat and ball
- 51:17Speaker 6: skills against the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 51:19Speaker 7: It's gonna be very interesting to watch.
- 51:21Speaker 3: You check two boxes, you know, Blue Jays fans and
- 51:24Speaker 3: your boots on the ground. Right now, There's two guys
- 51:27Speaker 3: on the Dodgers, Roki Sasaki and Shoheo Tani, who were
- 51:32Speaker 3: rumored or maybe just used as a manipulating, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 3: tactic of going to the Blue Jays. We'll never know
- 51:39Speaker 3: until they honestly are on a lie detector test if
- 51:42Speaker 3: Roki and show, hey, we're going to be coming to
- 51:44Speaker 3: the Blue Jays or not they seem destined to the Dodgers.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Are they gonna get loud enough booze that they're not
- 51:51Speaker 3: going to be able to hear their name being said
- 51:53Speaker 3: when they're announced.
- 51:55Speaker 7: I mean, maybe one of them.
- 51:56Speaker 6: But there also is a large Japanese population here in Toronto,
- 51:59Speaker 6: so I think there's going to be kind of mixed
- 52:01Speaker 6: reviews with it. But regardless if those rumors are true
- 52:05Speaker 6: or not true. And like you said, we're not going
- 52:06Speaker 6: to know the entirety of the story until maybe many
- 52:09Speaker 6: years later. What it did for the Blue Jays brand
- 52:13Speaker 6: was very important. I think the fact that they went
- 52:16Speaker 6: out and at least what we do know certainty is
- 52:19Speaker 6: they did have one of those meetings with show A.
- 52:21Speaker 6: They had it with Roki I believe they had it
- 52:23Speaker 6: with Juan Soto. The fact that they are finally in
- 52:26Speaker 6: a position with ownership, with Mark Schapiro, with Ross Akins,
- 52:31Speaker 6: with everyone involved with the stadium renovations, that they want
- 52:34Speaker 6: to be a team that is willing to go out
- 52:36Speaker 6: and spend money on these type of free agents. That
- 52:39Speaker 6: they want to be this destination for players to come.
- 52:42Speaker 6: I think is part of the reason that they're here.
- 52:45Speaker 6: I think they are a team that is willing to
- 52:47Speaker 6: they want to go down the same path that the
- 52:49Speaker 6: Los Angeles Dodgers are going down. Is we want to
- 52:51Speaker 6: be a destination that players want to go and play for.
- 52:55Speaker 6: You know, their selling point is, you know, obviously Toronto's
- 52:57Speaker 6: a great place, but it's a very international city. It
- 53:00Speaker 6: also is the only place you represent an entire country.
- 53:03Speaker 6: But it shows that they want to win year after
- 53:06Speaker 6: year after year and hopefully this is the first and
- 53:08Speaker 6: many successful seasons for the Blue Jays. And obviously going
- 53:13Speaker 6: out and signing Flattie to that fourteen year deal in
- 53:17Speaker 6: spring training shows their commitment to winning.
- 53:22Speaker 4: All right, real simple question here, should Bobashett play every
- 53:25Speaker 4: single game in order for them to win this World Series?
- 53:30Speaker 2: Wow?
- 53:31Speaker 7: It's a great question, Todd.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Do you want like my thing? Get?
- 53:36Speaker 6: I thought my initial thought process, you know, as he
- 53:38Speaker 6: was trending in the right direction, and like I said,
- 53:40Speaker 6: me getting a chance to talk to him, I don't
- 53:44Speaker 6: know what goes on behind closed doors, you know, I've
- 53:46Speaker 6: only seen what I've seen. I've had my conversations with him.
- 53:49Speaker 6: But I thought, as the series went on and the
- 53:54Speaker 6: Blue Jays won, I thought, without a doubt Bobashett would
- 53:58Speaker 6: be on the playoff roster and what capacity what they
- 54:01Speaker 6: use them at the very least, I think Boba Schet
- 54:04Speaker 6: sitting on the bench as a right handed bat, you know,
- 54:07Speaker 6: with you know, his name on the back of the jersey,
- 54:10Speaker 6: with the type of hitter he is, with the type
- 54:12Speaker 6: of you know stage he commands, with his ability to
- 54:16Speaker 6: put the ball in play. The one thing he did
- 54:18Speaker 6: tell me is he believes in his ability to put
- 54:20Speaker 6: it a great at bat together. Right now, and that
- 54:23Speaker 6: might have been a week ago when he said it
- 54:25Speaker 6: like that is his greatest attribute as a player is
- 54:28Speaker 6: he can put together a great at bat, whether he
- 54:31Speaker 6: plays second base or he DHS, or he's sitting on
- 54:34Speaker 6: the bench. I think him being on the roster just
- 54:37Speaker 6: makes decisions that Dave Roberts may may have to make
- 54:41Speaker 6: later in the game a little bit more challenging. Does
- 54:44Speaker 6: he go to that left hander like in the seventh
- 54:46Speaker 6: inning in that var Show Barger window, knowing that there's
- 54:50Speaker 6: this Boba sheet guy sitting on the bench, and they
- 54:53Speaker 6: also have a guy by the name of Type France
- 54:55Speaker 6: that they added to the roster. If you don't believe
- 54:57Speaker 6: that both of those guys were added to the roster,
- 55:01Speaker 6: you know, as right handed bats that could kind of
- 55:03Speaker 6: counteract some of the left handed pitching that they had
- 55:06Speaker 6: coming out of the bullpen, you're crazy, you know. I
- 55:09Speaker 6: would personally like to see Bob Baschett maybe in Game
- 55:13Speaker 6: one man, if he could DH, that would be like
- 55:16Speaker 6: the ideal situation. But I think finding him a window
- 55:21Speaker 6: where he gets a pinch hit in a game to
- 55:23Speaker 6: really kind of see where the heart beats at, where
- 55:25Speaker 6: the body's at, where the swing is at, where the
- 55:28Speaker 6: timing's at, and if he's able to get on bass.
- 55:30Speaker 6: How does he actually look running down the line?
- 55:32Speaker 7: You know, I don't believe.
- 55:34Speaker 6: He's a guy that if he pinch hits in a game,
- 55:37Speaker 6: is he going to stay in the game to run
- 55:39Speaker 6: the bases and play the field. Maybe there's this you know,
- 55:43Speaker 6: slow entry to the series, and maybe by game two
- 55:46Speaker 6: or three, if he's really trending in the right direction,
- 55:49Speaker 6: maybe we see him out there. But it'll be interesting
- 55:52Speaker 6: to see a bobashet And I haven't been around the
- 55:55Speaker 6: team all year and I didn't really get a chance
- 55:57Speaker 6: to play with Bo.
- 55:59Speaker 7: Is he a guy that.
- 56:00Speaker 6: Comes out for BP? Is he a guy that comes
- 56:02Speaker 6: out takes ground balls. I'm certainly gonna be over there
- 56:05Speaker 6: during batting practice, and that's what I want to look for.
- 56:08Speaker 6: Is Boba shut out there hitting with this team? Is
- 56:10Speaker 6: he out there taking ground balls? And how does he
- 56:12Speaker 6: freaking look?
- 56:13Speaker 2: You know?
- 56:13Speaker 6: Does he look the part? Does he look like he
- 56:14Speaker 6: can play nine names today? But I think it's regardless
- 56:20Speaker 6: of what capacity is in, I think it's gonna make
- 56:22Speaker 6: decisions on the Dodgers a little bit more tough.
- 56:25Speaker 3: I think the good number to set is seven hits
- 56:28Speaker 3: over under. That's how many Schwarber got when he came
- 56:30Speaker 3: back and came back from his acl So we'll see.
- 56:34Speaker 3: But the big problem for the Blue Jays is they
- 56:36Speaker 3: don't have the length and they're starting pitching, so they're
- 56:38Speaker 3: gonna rely on this bullpen. Scott had brought it up
- 56:41Speaker 3: earlier in the show. Do you think they're gonna go
- 56:44Speaker 3: with kind of like a Hey, Chris Bassett, you're gonna
- 56:47Speaker 3: give us a little bit. Hey, I know you don't
- 56:50Speaker 3: Trey you Savage. Maybe because he's young, they wouldn't do it,
- 56:52Speaker 3: but hey, today's your side day. We're gonna go and
- 56:55Speaker 3: we're gonna give you two innings just because of what
- 56:59Speaker 3: we've seen from their best, second best reliever in Louis Varlin.
- 57:05Speaker 3: He's just pitched every single game and once these guys
- 57:07Speaker 3: see guys, it is lights out. So how are they
- 57:10Speaker 3: gonna deploy this? And where do you see some of
- 57:13Speaker 3: the other guys that you're like, I don't know how
- 57:15Speaker 3: they're gonna use them being used in this bullpen?
- 57:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I highly doubt you see like a Kevin Gosman
- 57:21Speaker 6: maybe before later in the series. I think you keep
- 57:24Speaker 6: him fresh for you know, a game six start obviously
- 57:29Speaker 6: subject to change, you know, if the Dodger or the
- 57:31Speaker 6: Dodgers get out to an early lead in the series,
- 57:34Speaker 6: and Game six is in a guarantee. Most definitely you'll
- 57:37Speaker 6: see Kevin Gosman out there. But I think Chris Bassett
- 57:40Speaker 6: is the biggest X factor. You know, he didn't get
- 57:43Speaker 6: really any run. I think he pitched in Game two
- 57:45Speaker 6: when the game was a little out of hand, pitched
- 57:48Speaker 6: a little bit differently, you know, he had to pitch
- 57:50Speaker 6: for length a little bit more in that game. But
- 57:53Speaker 6: to no surprise, what John Snyder's done all year is
- 57:56Speaker 6: kind of think outside the box. He talked to me,
- 57:59Speaker 6: you know, on the field, you know, during Game three
- 58:02Speaker 6: of the CS. You know, we had a long conversation
- 58:05Speaker 6: and his message in spring training was be you and
- 58:08Speaker 6: we are going to find a spot to maximize your
- 58:11Speaker 6: skill set. And right now Chris bass bassett skill set
- 58:15Speaker 6: is being in that trust circle of trust with John Snyder.
- 58:19Speaker 6: I don't think anyone really predicted, maybe outside me, because
- 58:22Speaker 6: I said, you know, Bassett was gonna get into Game seven,
- 58:25Speaker 6: But I don't think anyone predicted him pitching the eighth
- 58:27Speaker 6: inning of a two run game. But he's been there,
- 58:31Speaker 6: He's done it. He's got a slow heartbeat, you know,
- 58:34Speaker 6: you know Cratsy and Fraser, you know, these games is
- 58:38Speaker 6: so much about controlling the emotions, controlling the heartbeat. And
- 58:42Speaker 6: you know what I was talking to Caleb Joseph about,
- 58:45Speaker 6: you know, when we're texting there in the game, about
- 58:47Speaker 6: you know, when guys come in, you know, we're talking
- 58:49Speaker 6: the game, and we.
- 58:51Speaker 7: Both kept asking for the curve ball because I believe.
- 58:54Speaker 6: In big moments, when the game is at its highest moment,
- 58:59Speaker 6: people can hit a rigging fastball shot out of rifle.
- 59:01Speaker 6: You know, we're all moving fast, our heartbeats beating fast.
- 59:04Speaker 6: I think sometimes slow is most effective in those situations.
- 59:08Speaker 6: And sure enough, Chris Bassett, you know, has the cahonas
- 59:11Speaker 6: to throw that seventy two mile out kurbball in there,
- 59:14Speaker 6: and I expect that to be a factor in this game.
- 59:16Speaker 6: Although the Dodgers have been there, done it, they have
- 59:19Speaker 6: a little bit slower heartbeat than maybe the Toronto Blue Jays. Tonight,
- 59:24Speaker 6: expect John Snyder to you know, stay on script with
- 59:28Speaker 6: like the Louis Varlins and the Jeff Hobbins and the
- 59:31Speaker 6: Sir Anthony Demingis. But I don't think what happened to
- 59:33Speaker 6: him with you know, Brandon Little in Game six is
- 59:36Speaker 6: going to affect the way that he uses Maybe he
- 59:39Speaker 6: finds a different pocket for him.
- 59:40Speaker 7: But I expect all hands on deck.
- 59:43Speaker 6: I expect some out of the box thinking and really
- 59:47Speaker 6: just trusting his guys because I think that's what's gotten
- 59:49Speaker 6: to this point.
- 59:49Speaker 7: I don't expect John.
- 59:50Speaker 6: Schneider to change the way he's managed up until this point.
- 59:56Speaker 2: KP.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Hitting question for you, and we're going to cover this
- 59:59Speaker 1: a little bit in our segment so you can help
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: us kick this off. What do you have on the
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: bat speed conversation? And Dave Popkins as if you know
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: he's bringing this concept to players, like, hey, if you
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: swing the bat faster like that, that could create an
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: advantage for you. But there's also the balance, of course,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: if not striking out too much. So that plus I'll
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: add a story from Mitch bennon The Athletic that I
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: read last night, and Popkins, who is beloved by the players,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: said in the first two games against the Mariners, they
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: were owning the zone and he said they needed more
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: slug and they were able to turn that on with
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: their game plan. So I don't know if those two
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: things that just asked are connected. But just curious to
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: get your thoughts.
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I know it sounds kind of like
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: an elementary thought that you know, more bat speed would
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: egal more velocity and more power, But it wasn't probably
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: something that was talked about a whole lot. And maybe
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: the previous regime of hitting coaches here, and that's me
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: maybe speaking, you know, out of turn. I don't know
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: that definitively, but I do know that the new hitting
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: coaches they brought in, you know, implemented that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: And you know, I wish it.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: Was as easy as, you know, just saying, hey, we're
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: going to alter our game plan, We're gonna slug more.
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: But the strength that the Blue Jays do have is
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: that they do put the ball in play. And I
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: think they just had to kind of recalibrate what they
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: meant by putting the ball in play. Didn't mean just hey,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: move advance the ball, like, let's take our shots early.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: I think when you have a team that doesn't strike out,
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: and is that a really good contact team is you
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: allow them to take bigger swings early in the count.
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: You allow them to hunt pitches in certain zones and
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: allow them to quote unquote maybe swing for the fences
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: a little bit more early on in the count, because
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: as you know, they get deeper in the count, they
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: have that ability to maybe shorten up a little bit,
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: you know, use the opposite field, just put the ball
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: in play, you know, talking the front office, talking to
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: you know, Mark Shapiro. They've talked about you know, Popkins
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: and his staff as being you know, ranchise altering decision
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: then bringing in you know, I've been around a lot
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: of hitting coaches. I've had a lot of great hitting coaches.
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: I've had some very average hitting coaches. My conversations with
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: them is the exact type of guys that I wish
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: I would have got a chance to, you know, play
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: for what they what they're big on is stay with
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: your strengths. You know, we don't necessarily there's obviously a
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: biomechanic aspect, but what they really want you to do
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: is be the best athlete you can be. Being around
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: them during early BP, I mean they're just having these
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: guys launch, and you know, does that translate into the game. No,
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: But they want these guys to feel free and move
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: fast and you know, have big lay kicks and move
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: athletically and then they can always kind of narrow that
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: kind of you know thought process, game planning, you know,
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: mechanics stuff. But really they're just trying to get the
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: best athlete out of every hitter, you know, and getting
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: their big guys. Getting Glady and George was a big
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: part of getting those guys on board. And you know,
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: I from what I had heard, Carlos Korea maybe reaching
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: out to George Springer and being like, hey, these guys
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: are the real deals, like give them a chance, you know,
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: put let us let them, you know, trust these guys.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: And obviously George, you know, was able to.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: Kind of trust these guys and and and move forward
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: from you know, a couple of rough years and you
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: know he's gonna get MVP votes this year. So a
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: lot of credit to obviously the players, but behind the
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: scenes having great hitting coaches that are always constantly preaching
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: positivity and getting your swing off, and you know.
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: You guys could attest to it too.
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: You know, you get a lot of hitting coaches that
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: say like, hey, I want you to hunt here, but
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: I don't want you to go here, and don't chase here,
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: and and this and this. They're really big on Hey,
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: if this is your zone, you want here if the
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: pitch starts here and you know it's a breaking.
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: Ball fit and you get fooled.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: Good, I want you to hunt this zone and get
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: your swing off. And there's a lot of times they
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: try to make an approach seem like it's so easy, like, oh,
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: just hunt this pitch. Don't don't, don't don't Like you know,
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: guys don't tunnel pitches. Now, they are good with you
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: staying in your tunnel and getting your swing off. Type
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: of guys that I wish I could play for, because
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: a lot of times when you go up there with
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: the idea of yes and no and no and yes,
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: like you know, it starts to become a math equation
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: as opposed to let me just be the best rigin
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: athlete I could be. Let me grab this bat, let
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: me swing it fast, and let me try to do
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: some damage.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Hey, real quick, what did you say about Korea and Springer?
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: So you're talking about Popkins? How you went from the
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Dodgers actually to then to the Twins Twins let them go, whoops,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: they're bad? And then Crea said, hey, this guy's really good.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:35Speaker 6: I mean, as you know, like anytime you whether you're
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: a hitting coach, whether you're a sports psychiatrist, whether you're
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: you know, pitching coach, getting players like being able to
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: come into a new environment. The hardest thing you can
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: do is try to earn the trust of players. And
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: if you have players maybe in an other or your
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: previous organization, that are able to reach out to players,
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: you know, in your current organization, and you you give them,
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: you know, their blessing, and you say, hey, this guy's
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: the real deal, you know, and you get kind of
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: cut through that, you know, that little dance maybe early
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: on in the off season or spring training of like,
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: you know.
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: Why is this guy calling me?
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: I don't know him? You know, what's he have to
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: offer me? When you can get a player's blessing and
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: be like, you know what, this this hitting coach was unbelievable.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: And there was places that I went, you know, and
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: I was able to either reach out to players or
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: players reached out to me and was like, Hey, coach
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: X is the real deal, and like you don't have
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: to go through that bs of like what's he have
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: to offer?
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: You know?
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: Can I trust him?
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: You know, can I be vulnerable with him?
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: Is he going to run in the front office? Is
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: he going to tell someone, you know, does he really
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: know what he's talking about? When you get that confirmation
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: from a guy like you know, Carlos Korea, who's obviously
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: good friends with, you know, George Springer, and George Springer
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: is able to hop on from day one because he
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: heard from his buddy that, hey, Dave Popkins is the
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: real deal. And then you know, Springer maybe can convey
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: that message to a Boba Shed or a Vladie and
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: you get your big boys on table and then everyone
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: else kind of follows. I think that's what you're seeing there,
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: you know. And obviously I wasn't around in spring training,
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: but if you talk to these guys about them, they
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: smile ear to ear with confidence in what that hitting
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: departments being able to do for a lot of these players,
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: and what they're able to do game planning, And you know,
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: I asked them questions before the game about, you know,
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: how you guys going to game plan for them, and
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: I'm like, do you have a backup plan and a
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: backup plan?
- 1:06:29Speaker 7: And they just wink.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: So I think they're always, you know, one, two, three
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: steps ahead of maybe the counter that the picture or
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: the opposing team has, so.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: It's been fun.
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: It's been a lot of fun to watch, and uh,
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: it definitely seems like a place that I would have
- 1:06:43Speaker 6: thrived as a hitter.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Last question before we let you go, fun little question.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: There's a lot of song songs that are gonna be
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: sung here, a lot of artists that are playing.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Give me your favorite one out of us.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: We've got Pharrell, we got a Lessi, Akara, Bibi Rexa,
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: Jonas Brothers.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Who are you most excited to hear? Uh? Either play
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: the answer?
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Where's the Jonahs Brothers? Is that confirmed in l A already?
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: Because I think that the first two were confirmed here
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: where the Jonahs Brothers? Like a, they're confirmed to do
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: it at the point?
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: Right, I thought it was Game one and two. Let's
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: all I forget about Jonas Bright how about I.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Got it taking place after the fifth inning of games
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: that'll extend the moment with a special This is they're
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: part of the stand up to cancer, which is always
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: kind of one of my favorite parts that I heard.
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: About the game one Game two.
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: I didn't hear the Jonas.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Brothers, but.
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: I mean not not not not my most favorite type
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: of music. But I think Pharrell is kind of an
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: icon in the music industry. You know, I love I
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: love hats, and he's got a sweet hat game. So
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: I imagine his hat is going to take up a big
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: part of the stadium wherever he's at. And you know,
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: I heard I heard that. Uh, it's more than just him.
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: I think it's a it's gonna be a full blown show.
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: So I'm definitely excited to see what he brings pregame today.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, Ifreg wants to stop by, then he's invited.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I'm sure. But we'll see, we'll see. This is his moment.
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: What do you guys got? What do you guys?
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: What's your guys predictions? I listened to a little bit
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: early on, but I was coming back. What do you
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: guys got.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: In terms of the music or the game?
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: No? No, no, no, the game, the game, the series.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: At the beginning, no, we didn't do our predictions that
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: we're gonna do him at the end. I like what
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: you said at the beginning, Like I don't see the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Blue Jays winning a short series. I think the Blue
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Jays either win in like a game six or seven
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: or the Dodgers. The Dodgers can win in a six
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: or seven, but they also could win in four or five.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I don't think the Blue Jays are winning in four
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: or five games. The Dodgers are too good.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Do you agree? No, he's not gonna like my prediction,
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: so I'm gonna be quiet. We're gonna.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Too early in the show. On the show, tune for
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: slap Pants.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: Log in the foul Territory in Canada. We're in Canada, Japan, Dominican, everywhere. KP.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: You'll see our picks.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Okay, well, KP, great segment. You're the man. You're crushing
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: the broadcast game. Have fun out there, enjoy it, and
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: we'll talk to you next week.
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: Ali, see you guys next week.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: See uh, that's Kevin Pilar And also on the screen
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: now Ken Griffey Junior and Mike Trout part of the
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: free to download MLB nine Innings twenty five. Scan the
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: QR code on the screen you can nowload the game.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Subscribe to FT We're flying, press that sub button. Baseball
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: the way it should be covered, covering both teams doing
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: our best, and a shout out to the team behind
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: the scenes just bringing it. First class production, first class
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: guest list this week too.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: KP.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Smoltz Bieber, and the list goes on and on. We
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: have some word from Rokie Sasaki on how serious his
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: conversations with the Blue Jays were. Remember, the blue Jays
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: actually have Miles Straw on their roster because they were
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: freeing up space. They took that money on from Cleveland,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: and good for them. They actually got themselves a player
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: who's having his best season ever. I think it's either
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: number one or number two from him. He's been a
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: really valuable part of this team and he's on the
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: roster here. He's fast, it's a good defender. Anyway, we
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: can show you here what Rookie said he was strongly
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: considering the Blue Jays and was definitely close to signing
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: with Toronto. It's actually really hard, this is the quote.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: It's actually really hard to express why I eventually chose
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: the Dodgers. Really, this is no slight too hard to express,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: because yeah, I don't believe.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: You so hard. It's so hard I can't even come
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: up with the words. Maybe I'll ask my agent why
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: for the years before that I signed here, he was
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: pushing me for the Dodgers. It's so it's just I
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: can't I can't figure out why. But I'll put together
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: a statement at some point to tell you why I
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: chose the Dodgers.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a tough one. I mean, I don't believe him,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: but that's okay, that's me. It's not a conspiracy either.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: At the time when people are they already was a
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: pre cut deal, a pre cut deal for what every
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: team was paying him between like five and ten million dollars.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: This is not Yamamoto's contract. So I'm like, it's not
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: that he just he wanted to go there to a
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: team that's very good at recruiting Japanese players. They happen
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: to have the best player of all time on that team.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: He's Japanese. They're really good. It's not a surprise.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: There's too many there's too many statements that are like, wait,
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: what of course they knew where they were going to go?
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: Be a bad agent if he didn't tell them.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I like the com waves on a Friday. We're looking
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: ahead to see the waves right now. It is a
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: little chilly day of but outside a little bit. Haven't
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: use that in a minute, haven't used that since last winter.
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: So we talked a lot about Game one, and we'll
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: continue to talk about Game one in the series. But
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: let's spend a few minutes on game two. Why because
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Foul Territory is a Monday through Friday show. Now we
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: are going to be on after the World Series Game one,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: so we'll still talk about game two. But I just
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: want to bring up Kevin Gossman specifically, Gossman is pitching
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: game two instead of game one. Makes sense, give him
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: an extra day. He pitched in game seven, he Savage
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: did not, so he's lined up. Shi to VD posted
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: the quote from Gossman. I just want to get the
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: player perspective from you guys, and I'll read it for
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: you if I can see it. So he was throwing
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: aside yesterday and he said he went into Game seven
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: of the ALCS knowing that quote if I did get
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: in that game, that maybe Game one would be kind
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: of a stretch ch That was hard for me to swallow,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: to be honest, he continued, but quote, I would hate
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: to go out there not knowing exactly what I'm going
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: to get out of myself. That played a big part
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: in the last couple days. Krats all, let you start
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: as the catcher where somebody's got to do real talk.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I keep bringing up Matthew Boyd from that CUB series
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: when he went on short rest against the Brewers and
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: it didn't work out, And to me, I think it's
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: a very similar case.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Very similar case. You have to understand your body. I'm
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: not saying Matthew Boyd didn't understand his body. I'm saying
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Gosmand knew that for him to fully commit to his outing,
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: however long it was going to be in game seven,
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: it would probably be a detriment to him being able
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: to start Game one. And good for the Blue Jays
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: and understanding that and not saying you're our best, we
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: gotta go, we gotta push you. You saw what happened.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: You see what happens all the time, Not just Matthew
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: boy but you see what happens all the time. Differences
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: in the Matthew Boyd game, they were up against it.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: The Blue Jays are not up against it. He throws
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: Game one, he throws again, in game four, Game five,
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: he throws, Game two, he throws again, game game six.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Matthew Boyd throws Game two. In the NLDS, there's no
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: game six, so that's a tougher. They were up against
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: it a little bit differently, but This isn't just a
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: Gosman thing, because every player wants to get out there
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: and throw in the game. If you think you're the
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: best player out there, you're gonna pitch, you're gonna hit.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: It's the organization that has to say, Okay, we're we're good,
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: We're gonna, we're gonna We're gonna push you back because
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: what you gave us in Game seven.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: And I think it's this bulldog mentality.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: I think that's the other issue he You know, he
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: wants to be out there, he wants to help out
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: as much as possible, but he also understood like it
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: kind of I feel like he want being that game
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: one starter kind of sets the tone and I feel
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: like that's where he's at with it. I think he's
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: understanding about it and knows that's the possibility if I
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: came in and it was so. But for him, I
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: think he wants the ball now. He wants to be
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: that number one guy, and you know, he don't to
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: prove anybody, but to prove everybody that he is one
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: of the top starters.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: In the league.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: So that's where I'm at with it, and I think it's,
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: you know, water under the bridge now. It's time. It's
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: go time tonight. But for him to say that it
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: ate him up a little bit, of course, But I
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: think he understands going Game two will be just fine
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: as well. If they win Game one, I think he's
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: going to be.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: Even more hyped.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Hey, coming up next. All right, let's slap we got
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: two orders of business number one. I just love that
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: graphic foul territory post game after World Series Game one
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: live on the FT YouTube channel, Be there, Dodgers, Blue
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Jay's Baby, it's happening. It's tonight. We're watching and then
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: we're talking to you. We're excited about it, and we
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: want to give a special shout out right now to
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: our buddy Calvin. He's a fan of FT. Actually, his
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: little league coach is a big fan, his coach Marty,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: and he's got his own YouTube channel, New York Sports Wire.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: So if you want to give him a little bit
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: of love, Calvin Tome right now battling cancer. He's nine
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: years old, he's out of school. He's doing his thing.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Big big sports fan, tons of personality, got a great
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: left handed swing, loves playing the outfield, can handle a
