- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:04Speaker 1: six forty.
- 0:10Speaker 2: No no either, no wow, make it, make it not true.
- 0:18Speaker 3: KFI AM six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Good Wednesday morning to you. It's New Year's Eve. Can
- 0:27Speaker 3: you believe it? We are sliding right out of twenty
- 0:30Speaker 3: twenty five into twenty twenty six. Flying cars, robots in
- 0:36Speaker 3: your house making you dinner.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Actually, we've had flying cars forever.
- 0:43Speaker 3: We just don't know how to put stupid people in
- 0:46Speaker 3: them and put them in the air without you know,
- 0:48Speaker 3: we don't do so well on the streets as it is,
- 0:52Speaker 3: let alone putting us in the air. And as far
- 0:54Speaker 3: as robots, you can get one right now. Twenty grand.
- 0:58Speaker 3: You can get a robot that can do laundry and
- 1:02Speaker 3: it's a biped walks around your house and all that stuff.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Almost got one, and that sounds strange. I do it
- 1:10Speaker 3: monthly plan. You know, I gonna throw out twenty k
- 1:13Speaker 3: I mean we've got that laying around for a robot.
- 1:16Speaker 3: But yeah, it's twenty twenty six. Man knocking on the door,
- 1:22Speaker 3: get that robot. Mark my words. Next year or near
- 1:29Speaker 3: the end of next year, that will be a thing.
- 1:32Speaker 3: It will be doable for people to have that kind
- 1:36Speaker 3: of help in the house.
- 1:38Speaker 2: All right. So I want to remind you of something.
- 1:40Speaker 3: A week from today, next Wednesday, the seventh, at seven pm.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So the seventh, at seven pm, KFI is going to
- 1:48Speaker 3: be airing the KFI News special LA Fires.
- 1:50Speaker 2: One year later. It's hosted by our very own Michael Monks.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's going to include, you know, reports from the KFI
- 1:56Speaker 3: News team discussing everything the station of the fires, of course,
- 2:01Speaker 3: the aftermath and right now the lasting impact that we
- 2:05Speaker 3: can see how Southern California's doing on that road to recovery.
- 2:09Speaker 3: So please make sure that you put that down in
- 2:13Speaker 3: the old calendar. A week from today, that's January seventh,
- 2:17Speaker 3: at seven pm. Michael Monks and his special LA Fires
- 2:21Speaker 3: one year later.
- 2:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So, ah, Christmas, do you take your decorations down now,
- 2:30Speaker 3: Heather Brooker? Or do you wait till the end to
- 2:34Speaker 3: the weekend or we'll probably do it this weekend, gotcha?
- 2:37Speaker 3: You know, the Twelve Days of Christmas, the famed Twelve
- 2:41Speaker 3: Days of Christmas, actually starts on Christmas, not before.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's not counting up to Christmas. It's a big confusion.
- 2:47Speaker 4: So technically the twelve days of Christmas my true love
- 2:50Speaker 4: gave to me happened the twelve days after Christmas.
- 2:53Speaker 2: That starts on Christmas.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Oh so you're getting gifts for every day after Christmas,
- 3:00Speaker 4: I guess.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So let's bring that back. Yeah, keep the body going.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna kick Honnika's ass eight days. Well we
- 3:08Speaker 3: got to about twelve crazy nights. Man, we're in. So
- 3:13Speaker 3: there is no right answer. By the way, some people,
- 3:16Speaker 3: even I like leaving them up. Now I have left
- 3:18Speaker 3: them since Christmas Eve. My lights have stayed on overnight,
- 3:24Speaker 3: like that's a tradition. Is I will keep them up
- 3:28Speaker 3: for Christmas Eve because you know, Santa like landing lights
- 3:35Speaker 3: and show. You know, I don't think it hurts. I'm
- 3:37Speaker 3: not saying he plays favorites, but I think if your
- 3:40Speaker 3: house is decorated, he's like, let's land here, maybe throw
- 3:45Speaker 3: down a little something extra. Turns out we did a
- 3:49Speaker 3: test this year. Put milk out with the cookies and
- 3:52Speaker 3: the carrot and all that stuff. But some Martinelli's Sparkling
- 3:56Speaker 3: cider as well. A little bit of milk left spark
- 4:00Speaker 3: queensider all gone.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So that's what he likes. I don't know I don't know.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Maybe he's like, hey, wait, maybe he thought it was cervesa.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Interesting, Yeah, but he he jumped right in, so timing
- 4:15Speaker 3: really to here tequila. Yeah yeah, there's a man in
- 4:21Speaker 3: our backyard face down with a couple of reindeer poking
- 4:25Speaker 3: at him.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Oh boy, it wasn't smart. Not again.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, So it comes down to personal preference. That's reality.
- 4:32Speaker 3: There's no whatever. If they did the survey of a
- 4:37Speaker 3: thousand US adults found most people take decorations down in January,
- 4:41Speaker 3: that makes sense. Forty seven take their tree down during
- 4:44Speaker 3: the first week of January twenty four I would imagine
- 4:47Speaker 3: whether that's real or fake, because if it's if it's
- 4:50Speaker 3: a real tree, you're taking it down asap because that
- 4:53Speaker 3: thing is kindling at that point. Twenty four percent wait
- 4:57Speaker 3: until later in January, and twenty percent move decorations between
- 5:01Speaker 3: Christmas and New Year's So Christian tradition observes Christmas for
- 5:06Speaker 3: twelve days.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Look at that, but Lata la de.
- 5:08Speaker 3: La from December twenty fifth through January sixth, So that's
- 5:15Speaker 3: why you get all those great things through twelve days
- 5:19Speaker 3: of Christmas. So January sixth is the Epiphany that's the
- 5:22Speaker 3: Three Kings Day traditionally marks the end of the Christmas
- 5:25Speaker 3: season for many Christians Catholics in the life. So as
- 5:29Speaker 3: far as social media goes, some people take their decord
- 5:32Speaker 3: down as early as December twenty sixth.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Boo, bah humbug, you're stupid.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I saw a video some posted on TikTok of literally
- 5:42Speaker 4: moments after they opened the present, the mom came in
- 5:45Speaker 4: and started taking the street down and the decorations, and
- 5:49Speaker 4: the yed was telling the dad come in and help.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Like she was like, and we're done.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I don't want to put words in my wife's mouth,
- 5:56Speaker 3: but I get the vibe. Like she put the tree
- 6:00Speaker 3: in with the wrapping paper as it goes in after
- 6:04Speaker 3: She's like that if one piece of paper comes off
- 6:07Speaker 3: the package, it goes straight into the bag. Like she
- 6:10Speaker 3: doesn't she doesn't want that littered.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And then I don't. Yeah, I like things nice and neat.
- 6:14Speaker 4: It adds to the cozy feel of holidays. So would
- 6:17Speaker 4: you say then she wants the tree down sooner rather
- 6:20Speaker 4: than kay.
- 6:22Speaker 3: She's an interesting one, like I'm more sappy sappy. No, No,
- 6:33Speaker 3: she's a she's a rationalist as well, but I'm more
- 6:36Speaker 3: sappy and romantical and sentimental I think about things. Yet
- 6:41Speaker 3: she still has all those traits in there somewhere, that hard,
- 6:44Speaker 3: thick black heart and skin. But uh uh. But I
- 6:48Speaker 3: think she likes to get things back to normal as
- 6:51Speaker 3: soon as possible. And I think she grits her teeth
- 6:53Speaker 3: through it because Daddy is is an emotional mess.
- 6:58Speaker 5: It's like Chris yay more Star Wars toys yeay, Kono
- 7:07Speaker 5: is dumb.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Yeah, well it might be a routine thing. I know
- 7:11Speaker 4: for me, I like to have a routine and I
- 7:14Speaker 4: find comfort in that. So maybe she likes to get
- 7:16Speaker 4: back to the routine of life.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so, And she likes to get it
- 7:21Speaker 3: all the Christmas gifts should be now disseminate because they
- 7:25Speaker 3: stay under the tree for a little bit. You know
- 7:26Speaker 3: they're opened, but you haven't moved them to their new
- 7:29Speaker 3: spot yet.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So I think.
- 7:31Speaker 3: She's like, Okay, everybody take their stuff and it should
- 7:33Speaker 3: go where it needs to go. And everything's coming down,
- 7:37Speaker 3: but I have to put the lights up and take
- 7:38Speaker 3: them down, so I'm not always thrilled about that. Plus,
- 7:41Speaker 3: there is nothing better than pulling up to a lighted house.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Oh with the tree and everything so festive.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and that little bay window, you know, it just
- 7:51Speaker 3: pops out of the house just ever so slightly enough to.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Want some hot chocolate. Let's do it. How can we?
- 7:59Speaker 4: Let's order some Starbucks, you'll ask me, Oh sorry, let's
- 8:04Speaker 4: order who makes hot chocolate other than Starbucks?
- 8:07Speaker 2: That would deliver well.
- 8:07Speaker 3: During the winter months. You may not know this, but
- 8:09Speaker 3: you can get it in and out. In and out
- 8:11Speaker 3: serves hot chocolate during I did not have winter months.
- 8:14Speaker 3: All right, Uber Eats here I come. Neil Savedra and
- 8:17Speaker 3: the morning crew here handles out this week and we're
- 8:20Speaker 3: happy to be hanging with you. Heather Brookers in for
- 8:23Speaker 3: Amy King, and of course Kono's here, and Will is
- 8:29Speaker 3: here and Matthew is in for and as they have
- 8:34Speaker 3: justified reasons to be on vacation. You don't take much vacate.
- 8:37Speaker 3: You're taking Friday off, right, Kono? That's it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm taking it right now.
- 8:42Speaker 6: You just have like dedicated vacation like spring training and
- 8:46Speaker 6: then have a fishing trip with my pops.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I know about the fishing trip. What do you
- 8:50Speaker 3: do for spring training, Gona? Yeah, but you're not training.
- 8:54Speaker 6: Sometimes maybe they'll call me out. We need a left fielderday.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Kono. We gotta get Kono and you go. I brought
- 9:02Speaker 2: my glove. I'm here, I'm ready. I've been Oh my god,
- 9:05Speaker 2: I've been waiting for this.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Gary Hoffman, Yeah, oh man, alrighty, So, uh where was I.
- 9:14Speaker 3: We're gonna talk about podcasts in the second and how
- 9:16Speaker 3: everything new is old again or everything old is new
- 9:20Speaker 3: again or whatever. But I want to remind you of
- 9:22Speaker 3: a couple of things. One, you got Gary Shannon coming
- 9:24Speaker 3: up at nine o'clock. But also, if we're going to
- 9:28Speaker 3: do it, ask us anything on Friday. Normally it's asked
- 9:31Speaker 3: handle anything, ask us anything. So anybody on the show
- 9:33Speaker 3: that you want to ask a question too, that will
- 9:35Speaker 3: be here, that will be well. Kona won't be here
- 9:37Speaker 3: on Friday, but you, I guess you can ask question.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'll answer. Yeah. I can dumb myself down to answer
- 9:43Speaker 2: a question for you.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Uh well lol, let's see none turn Fred flint Stone
- 9:52Speaker 5: two is for that one? I know?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yeah? Great?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Well Ma, no, it's uh well, but Heather Brooker will
- 10:02Speaker 3: be here, will We'll be here.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I will be here, Matt will be here.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So if you have any questions for us, just go
- 10:08Speaker 3: on that radio that iHeartRadio app and a little red
- 10:12Speaker 3: button with the mic on there that you primarily used
- 10:16Speaker 3: during the Gary and Shannon Show. They got a butt
- 10:19Speaker 3: ton of them. You just ask away there, okay, and
- 10:22Speaker 3: we'll do our best answer, all right. Podcast The reason
- 10:26Speaker 3: why I want to talk about podcasts. I love I
- 10:28Speaker 3: love how radio is this magic thing. I said this yesterday,
- 10:33Speaker 3: I'll say it again. I never approach approach this mic
- 10:38Speaker 3: without reverence for how cool it is to do something
- 10:43Speaker 3: like this for a living.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It really is.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And the fact that I get to connect with you
- 10:48Speaker 3: when you're in your home or car or whatever.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Huge.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I get to meet cool people you know that love
- 10:55Speaker 3: this thing that we call radio as well. And I've
- 10:58Speaker 3: always liked the intimacy of I've done television before.
- 11:01Speaker 2: It's weird. They get in your face.
- 11:03Speaker 3: About all kinds of things all the time, like I
- 11:05Speaker 3: don't know, just like all these cues, and it's like, no,
- 11:08Speaker 3: I'm a person.
- 11:10Speaker 2: We can go at our own speed. We don't. The
- 11:12Speaker 2: show's not written.
- 11:14Speaker 3: We have guides, we have great producers, we have people
- 11:17Speaker 3: that you know, move us along. But there's just something
- 11:20Speaker 3: really cool about it. So along comes podcasts. Everybody like
- 11:24Speaker 3: this is the greatest thing in the world, and it is.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I love podcasts. I think they're great. I think they're smart,
- 11:28Speaker 3: most of them, and or a lot of them at least,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and all of that. Well, now the big thing is
- 11:33Speaker 3: touring going live. Well, if you go back in time,
- 11:37Speaker 3: the early days of radio was live in front of
- 11:40Speaker 3: an audience. They would do shows just like Gary Shannon
- 11:44Speaker 3: do their Christmas show that they just did. They did
- 11:47Speaker 3: a Christmas Carol written by Gary and a great cast
- 11:51Speaker 3: which Heather was a part of along with their daughter,
- 11:54Speaker 3: and essentially everybody was hanging around watching it as it
- 11:59Speaker 3: was going on here.
- 12:00Speaker 2: They did a fabulous job. It's worth going back and
- 12:03Speaker 2: listening to.
- 12:04Speaker 3: So now podcasts are doing that because there's something about
- 12:09Speaker 3: the live energy. I remember I laughed at I don't
- 12:11Speaker 3: know if it was a meme, like somebody wrote it
- 12:13Speaker 3: on purpose or it was really somebody that's stupid. But
- 12:17Speaker 3: they're like, they should make a podcast that's live and
- 12:20Speaker 3: covers like the live news and things like that. And
- 12:23Speaker 3: I'm like, that's called radio. What you just described there
- 12:27Speaker 3: Little Philly is radio. And so now that they're going
- 12:32Speaker 3: around and doing these tours, I mean Amy Poehler if
- 12:35Speaker 3: you haven't heard her podcast, good hang, it's it's fan
- 12:38Speaker 3: tabulous they're doing.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I think they's gonna win Golden Globes.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Oh I bet you, yeah, because Golden Globes now has
- 12:45Speaker 3: entered that arena. This is the first year, right, Heather,
- 12:48Speaker 3: that's right. Yeah, So they did a live show.
- 12:52Speaker 2: If you offer the.
- 12:53Speaker 3: The one on one freeway, you see the Ford Theater
- 12:56Speaker 3: there or the Fond of the Wait, No, Fonda Theater
- 12:58Speaker 3: is different than the Ford Theater.
- 12:59Speaker 2: What am I talking about? Now, where's the Fonda the there?
- 13:04Speaker 2: I don't think there is a Fonda.
- 13:06Speaker 3: The Oh my gosh, hold on, maybe that's somewhere else.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Information Fonda Theater is that it sounds familiar. There is
- 13:14Speaker 3: a Fonda Theater on Sunset.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It's on Sunset, Okay that.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Okay, I got a little screwed up. So on Sunset
- 13:20Speaker 3: is the Fonda I remember I've seen shows there. And
- 13:23Speaker 3: then I'm thinking of the Ford, which is off of
- 13:25Speaker 3: the one on one right, yeah, right by the exit
- 13:28Speaker 3: there Barrom or whatever. Okay, So the Font they packed
- 13:32Speaker 3: that theater, big time crowd. People were all excited. Everybody
- 13:36Speaker 3: shows up. So now that's becoming the thing is to
- 13:39Speaker 3: do these tours. I know that my favorite Murder goes
- 13:42Speaker 3: on tour all the time, and they were one of
- 13:45Speaker 3: the first I think that started doing that. But it
- 13:49Speaker 3: it goes to show you it's not about the platform.
- 13:53Speaker 3: It's about connection, information, connection.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Nothing does it.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Television doesn't do connect should like radio does. There's no script.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Heather's an actress, she's a comedian, there is no ties
- 14:09Speaker 3: or you're not tethered in the same way. We're connecting
- 14:12Speaker 3: to the audiences taking the time to listen. Of course
- 14:14Speaker 3: they'll be a podcast afterwards, but this is all ephemera
- 14:17Speaker 3: right now.
- 14:18Speaker 2: This is the moment is now.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And to do it live, I've always said, and we
- 14:25Speaker 3: got close when I was in management with Robin Bertolucci.
- 14:28Speaker 3: We talked about getting a storefront essentially in a mall
- 14:35Speaker 3: or something with glass and you could do the shows
- 14:39Speaker 3: there and people could walk by and do that when like.
- 14:43Speaker 2: The Today Show where they have like the window in
- 14:45Speaker 2: the backyard.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, just that connection with it, because I think that's huge.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind going out during the morning show and
- 14:53Speaker 3: being live somewhere where you know, out and about with
- 14:56Speaker 3: people or connecting with people. It's what it's all about now.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Cast tours are becoming the rage and huge business because
- 15:04Speaker 3: not only do you get the ticket sales, but you
- 15:06Speaker 3: get the merch sales too. You get connection, you get
- 15:11Speaker 3: that excitement, And I think I love that artists are
- 15:16Speaker 3: doing this. I love that that actors are doing this
- 15:19Speaker 3: because I think actors work for too many people. Too
- 15:25Speaker 3: many people take a cut of their talent. And I
- 15:29Speaker 3: like that when actors can own their own stuff. And
- 15:34Speaker 3: I think if you've got a podcast and you're owning
- 15:37Speaker 3: your own stuff and you're going on tour, that's you
- 15:39Speaker 3: making the money instead of ten different name.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I used to have a podcast called Motherhood in Hollywood,
- 15:46Speaker 4: and the reason I started it was because I was
- 15:48Speaker 4: an actor who was very low, like a new mom,
- 15:51Speaker 4: who wanted to make connections with other parents in the industry.
- 15:54Speaker 4: So I started Motherhood in Hollywood and I did a
- 15:58Speaker 4: live show. I was so nervous, but I produced a
- 16:01Speaker 4: live show. I had two incredibly funny women come on,
- 16:05Speaker 4: Laurie Kilmartin that I was one of the guests, very
- 16:08Speaker 4: funny moms who came on and did a live show
- 16:11Speaker 4: at the ACME Comedy Theater, And it was so nice
- 16:14Speaker 4: to get that instant audience reaction and meet people who
- 16:18Speaker 4: had been listening to my show. So there's something magical
- 16:21Speaker 4: about a live audience.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, there's just an energy that you can't get.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I try and picture them always, like if I wasn't
- 16:28Speaker 3: on the air right now at eight twenty, not in
- 16:30Speaker 3: their underwork.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I was like, what do you mean?
- 16:32Speaker 3: But like I've always done this, someone taught me early
- 16:35Speaker 3: on is whatever time I'm on and try and think
- 16:38Speaker 3: what would I be doing if I wasn't on the air,
- 16:39Speaker 3: like right now, and try and talk to that person
- 16:43Speaker 3: doing whatever is they're getting up having their coffee, doing
- 16:45Speaker 3: whatever right now. Anyways, this is they're finding that it's
- 16:50Speaker 3: the same I don't care if it's a podcast or not.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It's the same ingredients that we have here and have
- 16:57Speaker 3: had for decades, you know, over one hundred years. KFI
- 17:02Speaker 3: has been on Since nineteen twenty two. April of nineteen
- 17:05Speaker 3: twenty two, KFI has been on the air, and it's
- 17:09Speaker 3: just insane that kind of connection and it was live
- 17:12Speaker 3: in front of an audience for a long time. You're
- 17:14Speaker 3: talking about Jack Benny and some great people that have
- 17:18Speaker 3: been behind the KFI mind.
- 17:19Speaker 2: It's insane when you do the history.
- 17:22Speaker 3: So much history? Yeah, so everything old is new again? Hey,
- 17:26Speaker 3: can you pop up my computer in there please, mister
- 17:29Speaker 3: Kono to hear from Jeff here.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Good morning, Neil. Jeff here have an interesting fact for
- 17:37Speaker 2: you on New Year's Eve. The reason why there's an
- 17:40Speaker 2: S on New Year's Eve is that the S indicates
- 17:44Speaker 2: possession of Eve instead of New year Eve.
- 17:48Speaker 3: So that's why you never want to name your daughter
- 17:51Speaker 3: Eve because Eve is possessed.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Happy New Year's.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Eve.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Un Tracks, that was helpful. I learned something there. Thanks.
- 18:03Speaker 3: You can leave your talkbacks any questions for us for Friday,
- 18:08Speaker 3: for any of the crew here, we'll answer them on Friday.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Instead of ask Candle anything. You can ask any of
- 18:14Speaker 3: us anything, just on the iHeartRadio app and you see
- 18:18Speaker 3: the little talkback symbol read icon with a mic there
- 18:23Speaker 3: and you can leave it there.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Don't forget.
- 18:24Speaker 3: A week from today, on the seventh January seventh, at
- 18:28Speaker 3: seven pm, KFI is going to be airing the KFI
- 18:31Speaker 3: News special La Fires one Year Later, hosted by our very.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Own Michael Monks.
- 18:37Speaker 3: So the specials can include all kinds of things report
- 18:40Speaker 3: from KFI News team. You know, the devastation of the fires,
- 18:44Speaker 3: the aftermath, lasting impact all of those things as we
- 18:48Speaker 3: continue a year later, the road to recovery, So be
- 18:53Speaker 3: sure to check that out. Michael does a great job
- 18:55Speaker 3: and there's a lot to learn from.
- 18:57Speaker 2: That, all right.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So robo taxis, I dig them, and I'm seeing more
- 19:01Speaker 3: and more on the eastern side of Los Angeles. I
- 19:05Speaker 3: know they started out on the west side of things,
- 19:07Speaker 3: and they were all over the place, but now they're
- 19:10Speaker 3: all over my neighborhood. But there's some things that are changing. One,
- 19:14Speaker 3: there's starting to get more expensive. I like them because
- 19:17Speaker 3: they were cheaper for one, and you don't have to
- 19:19Speaker 3: tip because it's just a ROBOTAXI. So I know some
- 19:26Speaker 3: people go, well, what about the drivers and all that. Listen,
- 19:29Speaker 3: there's it's supply and demand. It's always been that way.
- 19:33Speaker 3: The opportunities everything else that we've got going on in
- 19:35Speaker 3: the US, that's what it comes down to. If it's
- 19:37Speaker 3: not a special skill, then sooner or later automation is
- 19:43Speaker 3: going to pop in, is my guess. But there is
- 19:46Speaker 3: some crazy stuff that they're still working out now. I
- 19:48Speaker 3: believe the same as handle on this, which is listen,
- 19:51Speaker 3: when you started air flight, commercial flight and all these
- 19:55Speaker 3: things there's always going to be problems at the beginning.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Doesn't mean that it's horrible or that we shouldn't do it,
- 20:01Speaker 3: just means, yes, anything new, you're going to have issues.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So waymore had some big outages recently because they had
- 20:10Speaker 3: a power outage there in San Francisco. So that knocks
- 20:13Speaker 3: out the traffic lights and then the robotaxis freeze in
- 20:18Speaker 3: the intersections. They're not sure what's going on block lanes, crosswalks,
- 20:22Speaker 3: and that in this particular instant, because they've been doing
- 20:28Speaker 3: in San Francisco but longer than I think anywhere else.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Then you know, these things arise and people go, hey,
- 20:35Speaker 3: it's just not going to work. Here's this this case
- 20:37Speaker 3: study right here where it disrupted an entire city. Not
- 20:41Speaker 3: that human fecal matter and people laying in the streets
- 20:44Speaker 3: causing problem, but there in San Francisco. There you go,
- 20:47Speaker 3: there's issues. It's going to be interesting to see how
- 20:51Speaker 3: these things work. New Year's Eve is going to be
- 20:54Speaker 3: a big deal for this. They're saying that this is
- 20:57Speaker 3: there's going to be a major demand for robotaxi, popular
- 21:02Speaker 3: with writers leaving bars, parties, and a new study they're
- 21:07Speaker 3: calling the Pink Tax on this is that which is sexist,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but that women are preferring robotaxis. Now, guys are going
- 21:17Speaker 3: to look for whatever is cheaper and oftentimes right now,
- 21:20Speaker 3: I guess it's going to be your Uber or your
- 21:24Speaker 3: Lyft or things like that. But women prefer robotaxis. They
- 21:29Speaker 3: don't want late night driver interactions. And man, I don't
- 21:32Speaker 3: blame them. I don't blame them at all. I'd prefer
- 21:36Speaker 3: my wife to be in one of these because at least,
- 21:40Speaker 3: not only do they have multiple cameras and sensors and
- 21:42Speaker 3: all these things all over them, but also you can
- 21:45Speaker 3: connect with an actual person via the system they have,
- 21:50Speaker 3: the two way system they have in there. Apparently they're
- 21:52Speaker 3: not so supposed to be listening or connecting with you
- 21:55Speaker 3: unless you activate it.
- 21:57Speaker 2: But that's making them go up in price.
- 22:02Speaker 3: So now these row taxis, which to me were cheaper
- 22:06Speaker 3: when I when I originally started taking Roo taxis, they
- 22:09Speaker 3: were much cheaper than a human driven vehicle. But now
- 22:13Speaker 3: they're saying, like Uber if it's seventeen bucks, or lift
- 22:17Speaker 3: is eighteen bucks, way Mos like fifty?
- 22:21Speaker 2: When did that happen? Yeah? It has?
- 22:25Speaker 3: That?
- 22:25Speaker 2: Is that something new? Heather? You're nodding your head, because you.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Know, when we were in San Francisco last year was
- 22:31Speaker 4: our first real encounters with the weaimos, and they were
- 22:35Speaker 4: so much more expensive, and I because we were like,
- 22:37Speaker 4: oh fun, you know, there were so many on the
- 22:40Speaker 4: road there and we thought we would give it a try,
- 22:42Speaker 4: but it was more than double the cost of just
- 22:44Speaker 4: like a regular Uber ride and we were like, that's.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Not see, that wasn't my experience in San Francisco or here.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Maybe it was just because it was I don't know,
- 22:53Speaker 4: it wasn't like a holiday or anything.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I don't know why, but it was really expensive.
- 22:56Speaker 3: But here's the interesting thing is with Uber or lyft,
- 23:01Speaker 3: you've got if you've I've never worked for either of them,
- 23:04Speaker 3: but my understanding is that if you are on their
- 23:08Speaker 3: platform and you're one of their drivers, that you can
- 23:11Speaker 3: get notified at any time, Hey there's you know this
- 23:14Speaker 3: going on, or there's a surgeon need and they'll go, okay,
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'm going to hop in my car and I'm going
- 23:18Speaker 3: to work for a little while. So now you're flooding
- 23:21Speaker 3: the market with more vehicles and it's going to change
- 23:25Speaker 3: costs and surge pricing and all those things whatever it is.
- 23:28Speaker 3: But they only have a set number of the the robotaxis,
- 23:33Speaker 3: so that won't fluctuate, that won't change. I suppose they
- 23:37Speaker 3: could always have a fleet and put more out on
- 23:39Speaker 3: the road.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I think they. I think they can still just increase
- 23:43Speaker 2: the price. Yeah, but yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
- 23:45Speaker 3: So that price is going to shoot up because they
- 23:48Speaker 3: have a limitation of how many they can never put
- 23:50Speaker 3: on the road. Whereas Uber, you know, if you've got
- 23:53Speaker 3: a bunch of people that are on that app and
- 23:55Speaker 3: that are you know, they have the ability to be
- 23:57Speaker 3: a driver, they may go, ah, you know what, maybe
- 24:00Speaker 3: I'll jump in right now, so I'll be curious. But
- 24:04Speaker 3: this new PIK text they're talking about is that men
- 24:07Speaker 3: more likely to choose just a cheaper human driven right,
- 24:10Speaker 3: where women are likely to pay a premium for perceived safety,
- 24:14Speaker 3: which is as you know, I don't want some creepy
- 24:16Speaker 3: guy taking me home if I've had a couple of
- 24:18Speaker 3: pops or any of those things, and I don't blame
- 24:20Speaker 3: them at all, I would much rather my wife be
- 24:23Speaker 3: in a safer situation and not have to deal with
- 24:25Speaker 3: some creep it's asking a bunch of questions or things
- 24:29Speaker 3: like that. So these pricing algorithms are going to be
- 24:35Speaker 3: something interesting to figure out as we get more into it.
- 24:38Speaker 3: My hope is the bigger the fleet gets that it
- 24:41Speaker 3: will come down in pricing, because again, every time we
- 24:46Speaker 3: do this, all this is going to be better than
- 24:48Speaker 3: regular taxis. We've got uber, it's going to be this
- 24:51Speaker 3: gig economy. Then all of a sudden they want, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 3: all kinds of insurance and these types of things, so
- 24:57Speaker 3: the price goes back up again. It's like, how is
- 24:59Speaker 3: this different than driving a taxi was back in the day,
- 25:03Speaker 3: and then now you get rebo taxis in that Hopefully
- 25:07Speaker 3: the bigger the fleet can to bring the price down
- 25:10Speaker 3: and they go, well, then we want more money because
- 25:12Speaker 3: we have to you know, maintenance on me on the light,
- 25:17Speaker 3: our cameras and everything, and then it goes back up again.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:19Speaker 3: We keep doing things that they're supposed to save us
- 25:21Speaker 3: money and then ultimately we end up paying more like
- 25:24Speaker 3: subscription television all right.
- 25:28Speaker 2: From the game, she was saying.
- 25:30Speaker 3: The money.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Feeling. Oh see, it's not me, he picks on me.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Sometimes it's you, Heather, Heather the kind one brooker. Sometimes
- 25:49Speaker 2: it's it's both of you. It's both of you. Okay,
- 25:54Speaker 2: you're the voice of reason. Oh no, bring it back,
- 25:56Speaker 2: bring it back. It's New Year's Eve. Man. We got
- 25:58Speaker 2: to go out with a bang er a banger. Yeah, John,
- 26:06Speaker 2: we're getting hurt.
- 26:08Speaker 3: KF I am six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Neil Svader in the morning team, here with you. Happy
- 26:15Speaker 2: New Year's Eve. Look at us, look at up, look
- 26:17Speaker 2: at us all.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Gosh, twenty twenty five was so last year, so last year,
- 26:23Speaker 3: so last year. We're like cruising towards twenty twenty six.
- 26:26Speaker 3: You're gonna know if I stay up with my wife
- 26:28Speaker 3: and boy to celebrate, you're gonna stay home. No, you'll know,
- 26:33Speaker 3: You'll just know. You'll just know what I sound like,
- 26:35Speaker 3: and they're gonna be like seggagg to get break regged.
- 26:38Speaker 2: It's whatever you do you don't do. I'm surprised you
- 26:41Speaker 2: don't do the earlier, like the nine o'clock one.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, we did that when my daughter was little because
- 26:47Speaker 4: she needed to go to bed, and we also wanted
- 26:49Speaker 4: to stay up ourselves and have a little you know,
- 26:51Speaker 4: like one on one time.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Look at you, bubbles, Good for you.
- 27:00Speaker 4: But we don't do that now now we let her
- 27:02Speaker 4: stay up, but tonight she and my husband will just
- 27:04Speaker 4: be at partying because I go to bed at like
- 27:06Speaker 4: six in order to get here for this shift.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, I thought you said something else, you shift.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Oh wow, you're really letting lose come with talk about
- 27:18Speaker 3: your hump days this place.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Listen. We don't know what I Heeart's gonna do. We
- 27:23Speaker 4: could come in tomorrow and this will be a country
- 27:24Speaker 4: radio station and we'll.
- 27:26Speaker 2: All be like all fun games. But uh, let's go
- 27:31Speaker 2: out with a bank. It's called Manila and Neil and
- 27:33Speaker 2: I'm here with Heather Bang Bang broker. Al Right, they'll
- 27:36Speaker 2: just flip the switch and we're done.
- 27:39Speaker 3: What would be a hick name for Kono cono? I
- 27:42Speaker 3: think Cowboy cono, Cowboy Cono from the Little Lady.
- 27:47Speaker 2: That's not stop. We'd still do it still.
- 27:53Speaker 5: That was real.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah's not. I hate you both. Oh my god.
- 28:00Speaker 3: We leave the snorting to uh miss Shannon Farren. She's snort.
- 28:06Speaker 2: She's got the best laugh though, she's the best.
- 28:09Speaker 3: It's contagious. It is contagious, along with that rash on
- 28:12Speaker 3: her arm.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Oh dear, no kid speak the big Boss. It's the
- 28:20Speaker 2: big did you hear me? Saying you're doing.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Here on New Year's Oh, look at the you're listening
- 28:27Speaker 3: to you doing all the and now I'm going to
- 28:30Speaker 3: talk to corporate America with your round tones. Hey, so
- 28:34Speaker 3: do you get asked Larry about uh it's free.
- 28:39Speaker 2: We should tell people it's corbino l a president in
- 28:43Speaker 2: the house. So the slick back hair. Did he hear me? Yeah?
- 28:48Speaker 2: We talked about the station flipping the country tomorrow? We
- 28:51Speaker 2: never know. Yeah, are we going to be country tomorrow?
- 28:54Speaker 2: You're the boss? Do we have jobs tomorrow? What in
- 28:57Speaker 2: the New year? We had job We had a good year.
- 28:59Speaker 2: We had a banner year. This is great. Listen to
- 29:03Speaker 2: that accent. A banner year, banner year. Yeah, you're an
- 29:06Speaker 2: East Coaster, aren't you? This year we had nice game before.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Look at that. Get on the mic. We can't hear you.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Turn on the.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Mic to talk about iHeart and how we've had a
- 29:18Speaker 3: great year, and then no one will be fine.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, audio has made ad. I'm not going to say
- 29:26Speaker 1: comeback because he never went anywhere, but a resurgence in
- 29:29Speaker 1: the way people are viewing it, especially with our guaranteed
- 29:33Speaker 1: human approach that we're taking. We're all we're always human
- 29:36Speaker 1: all the time.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Yeah, well with handles on the question mark as to
- 29:40Speaker 3: what he is, whether he's still we need a DNA test, No,
- 29:44Speaker 3: we need a DNA test to see these human My
- 29:46Speaker 3: weekend with Bernie every day were saying, it's just saying,
- 29:50Speaker 3: I don't know what the hell he is?
- 29:51Speaker 2: Human maybe maybe yeah, always alive.
- 29:55Speaker 3: But uh yeah, you know that hit pretty quickly is
- 29:58Speaker 3: coming from a marketing background myself. When that hit, it
- 30:01Speaker 3: pinged my ear and now everywhere you go you're hearing that.
- 30:04Speaker 2: All we did a guarantee humans.
- 30:07Speaker 1: On what's happening, and people want to feel connected, but
- 30:10Speaker 1: they also want to feel connected with a live person,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and that's what radio has over a podcast. By the way,
- 30:15Speaker 1: I love the piece you just did on podcasts. I
- 30:17Speaker 1: agree with everything right saying I love the idea of
- 30:21Speaker 1: being able to get out there do some live broadcasts
- 30:23Speaker 1: that way.
- 30:24Speaker 2: It's it's it's a connection all the way with radio,
- 30:26Speaker 2: and as.
- 30:27Speaker 1: You mentioned, it's what's what Jack Benny was doing in
- 30:29Speaker 1: this uh for the station.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I don't know, almost one hundred.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Years ago, I guess basically yeah, yeah, But and in
- 30:37Speaker 1: the surveys it came out that people want to be connected,
- 30:39Speaker 1: and what we have over podcasts and almost every other
- 30:42Speaker 1: form of media is that we're live. People get to
- 30:45Speaker 1: drive to work with their friend in the morning.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I came in on Christmas Eve following Gary and Shannon
- 30:52Speaker 3: and they just had done their production, their live production
- 30:58Speaker 3: here in studio of a Christmas Carol rewritten by Gary,
- 31:04Speaker 3: and I just said thanks, thanks to everybody that came in,
- 31:08Speaker 3: Thanks Gary for writing it, Thanks for it was so
- 31:11Speaker 3: magical and reminded me.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Of why I love radio.
- 31:14Speaker 3: To hear a live production on Christmas Eve was super
- 31:20Speaker 3: special and there's something about that you can't and even
- 31:23Speaker 3: podcasts are learning that.
- 31:24Speaker 2: It's interesting.
- 31:26Speaker 1: One of our people in corporate was telling the story
- 31:29Speaker 1: how recently she was in a car with her kids
- 31:31Speaker 1: who was like seven years old boy in the backseat
- 31:34Speaker 1: and had the radio on. I asked the question, what
- 31:38Speaker 1: are other people listening to? Cause other people hear the
- 31:40Speaker 1: same thing we're hearing. He was like shocked that other
- 31:43Speaker 1: people in other cars were listening to the same thing.
- 31:47Speaker 1: He says, so the person in that car, in that car,
- 31:49Speaker 1: in that car might be listening to the same exact
- 31:52Speaker 1: thing that we're listening to. And he got all excited
- 31:54Speaker 1: about that, right, there is other than sports. There really
- 31:58Speaker 1: is no longer a collective experience.
- 32:01Speaker 2: No, because.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Television is time shifted and film you're limited to However,
- 32:08Speaker 3: many seats are in the theater or you're watching it
- 32:11Speaker 3: at home, and so radio is still one of those
- 32:14Speaker 3: in the theater.
- 32:14Speaker 1: People aren't going to the theater. I mean, it's it's
- 32:17Speaker 1: a shame. I mean, I miss it. And I think
- 32:19Speaker 1: the the human connection is really important. And if you're
- 32:24Speaker 1: not out in the real world, at least have that
- 32:27Speaker 1: connection with your with your personality on the radio while
- 32:30Speaker 1: you're in your car, or while you're at home or
- 32:32Speaker 1: you know, wherever you are.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I have.
- 32:34Speaker 3: You're hearing Paul Corbino, the division president here for I
- 32:38Speaker 3: heart Media Los Angeles.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And my dad passed away.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I just stopped it to say, very Christmas, but years.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Ago, Happy New Year, Happy New Year. Well it's all
- 32:51Speaker 2: the same the holidays here.
- 32:53Speaker 3: But my dad passed away in two thousand and one.
- 32:58Speaker 3: But prior he had come out to events and things
- 33:01Speaker 3: like that, and he was blown away at how people
- 33:05Speaker 3: knew who he was because I talked about him and
- 33:08Speaker 3: I have him on every now and I used to
- 33:10Speaker 3: do a segment called Ask the Old Guy, and.
- 33:12Speaker 2: You've been listening to The Bill Handle Show.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Catch My Show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am,
- 33:18Speaker 3: and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
