- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Well, it's D-Day. If
- 0:12Speaker 1: you're taking PSLE, we wish you all the best, sending
- 0:15Speaker 1: you all the good luck, the good energy that you need,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and we'll have great music to perk you up this
- 0:20Speaker 1: morning to keep you energized. Why not, right? Sending you
- 0:23Speaker 1: lots of love. Corti is gonna kick us off this hour.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Good morning. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Earlier on this morning, um, as I got up and
- 0:35Speaker 1: came to and got myself ready to come to the office, uh,
- 0:39Speaker 1: there it was again.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The roosters are crowing. I don't know whether it's the
- 0:44Speaker 1: season or something, but every once, every few months, um,
- 0:48Speaker 1: these two roosters, or, or, yeah, they have to be
- 0:51Speaker 1: roosters because they're crowing, they, they are having a conversation, man,
- 0:55Speaker 1: like in the morning. They are ensuring the people who
- 0:58Speaker 1: need to be up at 6 a.m. are up. That
- 1:00Speaker 1: was way before 6.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So I was like, I wonder what they're talking about
- 1:06Speaker 1: and because it didn't exactly sound like it's very near me, um,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I can only imagine the residents that are experiencing it
- 1:13Speaker 1: like right next to those roosters, and the two roosters
- 1:17Speaker 1: don't sound like they're near each other, you know what
- 1:19Speaker 1: I mean? So one will, one will make noise, the
- 1:21Speaker 1: other one will talk back.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm just like, what are you guys gossiping about, man?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Like I just wanna know. I want to know about
- 1:29Speaker 1: the latest before the market opens. Correct. OK, that's probably
- 1:36Speaker 1: what they're talking about. Anyway, thanks for joining us here
- 1:39Speaker 1: this morning. Um, like I said just yesterday, later on
- 1:42Speaker 1: after 9, we do have our bestie joining us in
- 1:46Speaker 1: a bit. It's funny how I said that because
- 1:49Speaker 1: We're talking about investment scams. Yeah, and he himself was
- 1:54Speaker 1: used as part of that investment scam. Oh, by the way, interesting.
- 1:57Speaker 1: The CEO of DBS Tann did not punch Steve in
- 2:02Speaker 1: the face. Yeah, that was like that was AI at
- 2:05Speaker 1: its best, man. And apparently that ad is still circulating
- 2:08Speaker 1: around the internet they can't do anything about it. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think they're trying, but it still keeps popping up, right?
- 2:13Speaker 1: OK, so what's going on with the AI glasses? I mean, I,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I actually really love my pair of AI glasses. I
- 2:19Speaker 1: use it at music festivals a lot. I'm gonna say this.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think for both of us, we belong in the
- 2:25Speaker 1: category of people who use AI glasses responsibly, because I
- 2:29Speaker 1: run a lot and I love to share my run routes,
- 2:32Speaker 1: especially on how to get up to Benjamin Shear's bridge
- 2:34Speaker 1: for training when it comes to the BYD half of
- 2:37Speaker 1: full marathon.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And people like you will use it at music festivals.
- 2:41Speaker 1: People will create videos. Some tech, some tech vloggers love
- 2:45Speaker 1: to use the glasses to show what they're doing or whatsoever,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and it's great to watch and even cooks as well. But, um,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and we said this when they allowed the AI glasses
- 2:55Speaker 1: to be sold in Singapore.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Unfortunately, it might empower some creepy behavior as well and
- 3:01Speaker 1: people might try their best to temper the system where
- 3:03Speaker 1: they can remove the light blinking hide the light to
- 3:06Speaker 1: record videos. So what happened and this person got caught, right?
- 3:09Speaker 1: I hope. Yeah, so unfortunately, um, I think this video
- 3:13Speaker 1: has gone viral and this took place could be just
- 3:17Speaker 1: right outside.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Raffles Junior College. No, yeah, or was it RGS because
- 3:23Speaker 1: I can tell from the uniform and where the construction
- 3:25Speaker 1: is happening. I think it's around the Thompson area where
- 3:28Speaker 1: there was this creep who was caught on camera tailing
- 3:31Speaker 1: two RJC girls, yeah, two students, and I think somebody
- 3:36Speaker 1: was behind him recording the act happening and
- 3:38Speaker 1: And when she or he did a swivel, you can
- 3:41Speaker 1: see that the guy was wearing the camera recording glasses.
- 3:44Speaker 1: The person who went to confront the guy, right? Uh,
- 3:49Speaker 1: not exactly confront but just recorded as evidence, posted it
- 3:52Speaker 1: on social media, and now I think the police are rightfully,
- 3:55Speaker 1: rightly investigating this video. So creepy.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And can you imagine people actually spend that money on
- 4:03Speaker 1: a pair of AI glasses, which are not cheap, by
- 4:05Speaker 1: the way, for the creepy behavior, wow. Some of the
- 4:09Speaker 1: comments in the alleged this guy is quite a sightings.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So I guess because of this netizen's video, they can
- 4:22Speaker 1: now bring him in I guess be careful, be vigilant
- 4:27Speaker 1: and here's my question why is it always Bishan, I
- 4:32Speaker 1: told you.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Um, during my time, I know you told me about
- 4:36Speaker 1: that creepy guy, right? There was this one prominent guy,
- 4:40Speaker 1: and he's gotten into trouble with the law. He has
- 4:42Speaker 1: a nickname which I won't say. Can. Can you tell
- 4:45Speaker 1: me when I turn off the mic? Yes, I will,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I will, but if you're on TikTok and Reddit.
- 4:49Speaker 1: The nickname is available for you readily. He's known. He's known.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Oh gosh. OK, well, be safe and um please do
- 4:58Speaker 1: your best today. Um we, we know that this is
- 5:00Speaker 1: the start of like your official written papers. 0 24th, yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's PSLE. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You didn't realize that it
- 5:06Speaker 1: was today. 24th.
- 5:08Speaker 1: On your way to school right now, or maybe you're
- 5:10Speaker 1: dropping off your sibling who is taking an exam here today,
- 5:13Speaker 1: doesn't matter which exam, you know, test or exam, all
- 5:15Speaker 1: the best, we're sending you love. If you would like
- 5:17Speaker 1: to send some messages of encouragement and all that, our
- 5:21Speaker 1: phone lines are always open. And like I mentioned earlier,
- 5:23Speaker 1: it's not such a great year when it comes to
- 5:25Speaker 1: fire-related incidents in Singapore.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Which is why I wonder like, how come it was
- 5:30Speaker 1: so timely that there's a Boys to Firemen and like,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you know, just these weird things that are aligning in
- 5:36Speaker 1: the universe this year. Maybe our friends over at SCDF, OK,
- 5:40Speaker 1: we've got too many cases this year. Let's call Jack Neo.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Jack Neo, we need a national message. They'll slip in
- 5:47Speaker 1: some warnings here and there like what to do, what
- 5:48Speaker 1: not to do kind of thing, maybe.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Um, but this happened over in the Ang Mo Kio
- 5:52Speaker 1: area and um it is not in regards to any
- 5:56Speaker 1: portable battery or PMD or whatever it is that usually
- 6:00Speaker 1: are the, are the main culprits of fire-related incidents. It's
- 6:05Speaker 1: actually an automatic mahjong table. Yeah, so I've played on
- 6:10Speaker 1: one before, not that I'm very good, honestly, I, I, I, I,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm quite bad at mahjong or any card-related games, anything
- 6:17Speaker 1: at all.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Um, but they're still investigating. However, the automatic mahjong table
- 6:22Speaker 1: seems right now to be the cause of the fire. Um,
- 6:26Speaker 1: two people that were 18 and that are 18 and
- 6:30Speaker 1: 21 years old were trapped in the unit, by the way.
- 6:32Speaker 1: They were.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They were stuck, but um, I think about over 20
- 6:36Speaker 1: people were evacuated at about 10:45 a.m. So it was
- 6:40Speaker 1: quite intense because like black smoke was coming out from
- 6:42Speaker 1: the living room, you know, and the windows and all
- 6:44Speaker 1: that of the seventh floor unit. So they managed to
- 6:47Speaker 1: extinguish everything.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Um, they're, they're safe. I think an SCDF firefighter was
- 6:53Speaker 1: also brought to the hospital to get assessed, but he
- 6:55Speaker 1: got discharged. Can I ask, does it even say how
- 6:59Speaker 1: did the mahjong table catch fire? So they are, they're
- 7:02Speaker 1: investigating it right now. They're saying it's suspected to have
- 7:06Speaker 1: caught fire. So I don't know if you've played on
- 7:08Speaker 1: an automatic mahjong table before. I mean, I've seen those.
- 7:12Speaker 1: and and all that. Yeah, so there's like a lot
- 7:15Speaker 1: of mechanisms inside, I think, in order to like shuffle the,
- 7:19Speaker 1: the tiles and then like stack them and then bring
- 7:22Speaker 1: them up again, right? So I'm assuming maybe something was
- 7:24Speaker 1: faulty in there perhaps. But look, this is all speculation,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I said, um, this is still under investigation right now,
- 7:31Speaker 1: but the owner of the mahjong table, the automatic mahjong
- 7:34Speaker 1: table said.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I bought it at a mall about a year ago
- 7:37Speaker 1: for more than $800. It shouldn't be like that. Yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but you can also buy some dodgy power banks from
- 7:43Speaker 1: a mall or shops that you can find. So be careful.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So auntie uncle, go and check. Yeah, but it could
- 7:51Speaker 1: be the wiring or like, you know, the plug or what.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't know the connection. I'm no expert, but I
- 7:57Speaker 1: hope that you stay safe when your mahjong to give you, not.
- 8:03Speaker 1: That's a good one. Who is Tiger? No. Who is River? Oh, sorry,
- 8:08Speaker 1: Lao Lao. No. Who? When they get a very good
- 8:12Speaker 1: hand and tows, they put down and say, Who? Oh,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you're more Chinese than me. I'm gonna say this. Taylor
- 8:18Speaker 1: Swift would have thrived even more as if she isn't
- 8:22Speaker 1: already at a very high level. She would have.
- 8:25Speaker 1: thrived even more as an artist in the 80s and 90s.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Why do you say that and maybe even early 2000s
- 8:32Speaker 1: just before the birth of MP3. You know why? This woman,
- 8:38Speaker 1: one album, 1900 different variants.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And people still buy them. That's the thing. Like there's
- 8:47Speaker 1: if there's a demand, there's a supply. So I really
- 8:49Speaker 1: love her business mind and her business team. They, they
- 8:52Speaker 1: know how to make bang for her, and she deserves it.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I mean, great musician, good songwriter and all that. So
- 8:58Speaker 1: you would know that she has an album called The
- 9:00Speaker 1: Life of a Showgirl, right, which was released sometime last year.
- 9:05Speaker 1: The fate of Ophelia and whatever, Opal Light as well.
- 9:09Speaker 1: These two songs that we play plenty of here on
- 9:10Speaker 1: 987 and Elizabeth Taylor.
- 9:13Speaker 1: She announced a brand new single. OK, I think it's
- 9:17Speaker 1: called Patient Zero. It will be available tomorrow and in
- 9:22Speaker 1: terms of physical copies, you can get the Patient Zero CD,
- 9:27Speaker 1: just the single itself. There are 3 variants, and then
- 9:31Speaker 1: also dropping on the same day. It's so funny that
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's called Patient Zero and there are 3 variants. I mean, it's,
- 9:37Speaker 1: it's gonna go viral, that's for sure, yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Um, look, and then she also announces the release of
- 9:45Speaker 1: The Life of a Showgirl Encore.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Encore meaning like there are other songs there or it's
- 9:50Speaker 1: a deluxe version, so I think it will feature 4
- 9:52Speaker 1: to 5 songs that she recorded in Sweden while on
- 9:55Speaker 1: a celebratory trip. What, you know what, I need to,
- 9:59Speaker 1: we need to learn from this girl. Like we're not
- 10:01Speaker 1: milking ourselves enough, Joe. When are we dropping our circuit
- 10:05Speaker 1: deluxe rap album? We've tried, it didn't work. No, we
- 10:09Speaker 1: didn't try. We didn't try. We had some ads where
- 10:12Speaker 1: we were rapping and singing.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but that one for like other people, like, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: what if we write for ourselves? I mean, here in
- 10:20Speaker 1: Singapore reps for example, they would have. They would have
- 10:25Speaker 1: signed us. So why do you think that is? Why
- 10:27Speaker 1: do you think they haven't called us?
- 10:31Speaker 1: Why do you think Universal Music hasn't called us? Do
- 10:33Speaker 1: you really want to deep dive into this conversation, Sonia?
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think we better do it off air. Yes, my,
- 10:39Speaker 1: my ego cannot take it this morning. So congrats to
- 10:41Speaker 1: Taylor Swift giving the entire world to look forward to
- 10:44Speaker 1: something tomorrow. Patient Zero, and hopefully we'll be the first
- 10:48Speaker 1: to play it here on 987 for you. You realize
- 10:52Speaker 1: we're funding
- 10:52Speaker 1: honeymoon and her wedding and all that, right? I mean, hey, again,
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's the businessman mindset. Well, self-made. We're on to a
- 11:00Speaker 1: little story here today of Bodo crime and unfortunately this
- 11:04Speaker 1: one pretty face palm worthy. Although sometimes I feel, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: when we read these types of news on, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: on your social media platforms and news platforms, right?
- 11:13Speaker 1: I wonder, these people must have been pretty desperate or
- 11:16Speaker 1: they must have been in such a bad situation that
- 11:19Speaker 1: they try to steal even just like, you know, a
- 11:22Speaker 1: few $100 or a few $1000 to maybe help their situation.
- 11:26Speaker 1: That or maybe they love the thrill of it. For
- 11:30Speaker 1: this one, I'm on the fence. I feel like he
- 11:32Speaker 1: might have been driven to desperation, but I'll tell you
- 11:35Speaker 1: the story, then you see what happens, OK? You tell
- 11:37Speaker 1: me what you think.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So I'm taking you to um my most used bank, OCBC.
- 11:43Speaker 1: What's up? Shout out to my friends at OCBC, like
- 11:45Speaker 1: literally all my accounts, my home loan, car loan, all
- 11:47Speaker 1: of them. But here's what happened at OCBC Center, unfortunately, OK. Um,
- 11:52Speaker 1: so I'm assuming this might have happened kind of close
- 11:56Speaker 1: to the CNY period because a man in his 40s
- 12:00Speaker 1: who was identified as a building technician, by the way,
- 12:04Speaker 1: did a bit of an Ocean's 11 situation where he
- 12:07Speaker 1: tried to tamper with the doors. Wait, you mean OCBC
- 12:10Speaker 1: and the right at the Chua Street, yeah, the main one,
- 12:14Speaker 1: the main one at Chulia Street, where they have their
- 12:16Speaker 1: offices in there as well, right?
- 12:20Speaker 1: He went. He works there. So he's a building technician,
- 12:23Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier. And um what he did was,
- 12:26Speaker 1: like I mentioned also, Ocean's 11, he went to tamper
- 12:29Speaker 1: with the doors and stuff like that and um let
- 12:32Speaker 1: himself in to the office area.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Um, got through the access and then he went to
- 12:38Speaker 1: look at the workstations. He tried to look out for
- 12:40Speaker 1: red packets at the workstations. That's why I said I
- 12:44Speaker 1: think it was during, could have been during the CNY period. Rackets, yeah, yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 1: What else would it be?
- 12:51Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, red packets or something. No, no,
- 12:54Speaker 1: of course it would be. So I think he managed
- 12:57Speaker 1: to identify like, oh, there were a few red packets
- 12:59Speaker 1: and it amounted to about like 1,0003 in cash. He
- 13:03Speaker 1: took them, and I think some of these ang Paos
- 13:05Speaker 1: had other types of shopping vouchers too, um, but after
- 13:08Speaker 1: he left the office, he reconnected the wire, put the
- 13:10Speaker 1: door access cover back, and then closed the door.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But of course, it was not long after that a
- 13:16Speaker 1: staff member actually noticed something was amiss and um I
- 13:20Speaker 1: think they they they went and looked into like, hey,
- 13:23Speaker 1: there's CCTV everywhere, let's look into it.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It was reported and eventually he was found with all
- 13:29Speaker 1: these red packets, red-handed, caught red-handed. I, I, I don't
- 13:33Speaker 1: want to classify this as crime because the skills involved
- 13:38Speaker 1: like quite, quite advanced, is it? It's quite intricate and
- 13:41Speaker 1: very well thought of. So not exactly crime but the.
- 13:44Speaker 1: The fact that he got caught, thank goodness. No, it's
- 13:45Speaker 1: not the intention of doing it at such a secure
- 13:48Speaker 1: place is indeed a little bit. You don't think so?
- 13:52Speaker 1: You know, it's the reverse psychology, right? They make you
- 13:55Speaker 1: think it's the most secure go straight to the source,
- 13:57Speaker 1: is it? But actually there's nothing there to make it secure. Well,
- 14:01Speaker 1: clearly there was, there's like a million CCTV cameras there. Like,
- 14:05Speaker 1: can you imagine, right? Like the nuclear codes, the password
- 14:08Speaker 1: is 1234. OK, bro, I think you watch too many
- 14:11Speaker 1: of these. Can you imagine?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Reverse psychology, reverse psychology it's like some intricate password but
- 14:17Speaker 1: it's like 1234 000. Can you stop saying all my passwords.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Anyway, whatever this guy is going through, he must be,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, driven to quite a desperate situation. I hope
- 14:30Speaker 1: he figures this out, but of course, there are consequences.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Can I, can I ask you one question about your passwords? OK.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Here we go. Yeah. Are any of your passcodes 281291?
- 14:44Speaker 1: I got to change my iPad. So, you've lived alone
- 14:48Speaker 1: for the last how many years now? Um, since COVID,
- 14:55Speaker 1: COVID times 2020. Congratulations 2012 oversharing here but I'm still
- 15:03Speaker 1: living with my mom because I'm all that she has
- 15:06Speaker 1: and single parent child and all that and I do
- 15:07Speaker 1: wish to take care of her and make sure she's comfortable.
- 15:10Speaker 1: But obviously there will come a point where I would
- 15:14Speaker 1: love a space of my own. Yeah, yeah, understandably so.
- 15:17Speaker 1: And as of Monday, my mom actually is in Korea
- 15:20Speaker 1: right now visiting her family and her sister. She sends
- 15:23Speaker 1: me videos and every day, WhatsApp bubbles every day. She
- 15:27Speaker 1: will show me my auntie and she will force me
- 15:29Speaker 1: to speak in Korean to her, and then my auntie
- 15:32Speaker 1: and my mom will tag team together. Hi, Korean so bad.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Just finding a chance to bully you.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Poly P, you know what I mean, go and learn, uh,
- 15:40Speaker 1: but I realized the fact that my mom's away and
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'm now the man of the house for a while,
- 15:47Speaker 1: for just a few weeks.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I actually love doing housework. What? I actually love doing housework. OK, OK, OK, maybe,
- 15:57Speaker 1: maybe I'll ask you again in a year. No, no, no,
- 15:59Speaker 1: because it's only been a couple of days. It's not
- 16:01Speaker 1: the first time my mom's been to and I'm on
- 16:03Speaker 1: my own for a while, but whenever she's away, I
- 16:05Speaker 1: find myself, right, doing the laundry regularly, ironing my clothes regularly,
- 16:10Speaker 1: vacuuming the floor and all that. Can I, can I
- 16:13Speaker 1: just tell you my views here? When I first moved
- 16:15Speaker 1: into my place, my own place alone, OK.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I was excited about doing all of that. I will
- 16:21Speaker 1: keep my house guard and be like, in fact, I
- 16:23Speaker 1: was not very pleasant to be around. My parents will
- 16:25Speaker 1: tell you that because I'll be like, why put that there?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Put the, put the, put the mat before I put
- 16:30Speaker 1: the plate on, you know, that kind of thing. I'll
- 16:31Speaker 1: be very, very, very particular.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And I always make my bed in a certain way because,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you know, it's a studio apartment, you know, people can
- 16:38Speaker 1: see into like many different places. I'll make sure like my,
- 16:41Speaker 1: my toilet is always stocked with the nicest like um
- 16:44Speaker 1: soap and and and hand cream and all that. Fast
- 16:47Speaker 1: forward 12 years later, it's all gone, disaster. I don't know,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but I, I feel that might not happen to me.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I don't think it's a honeymoon phase.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You say that now, I'll ask you again when you
- 16:57Speaker 1: actually move into your room my room. My room is
- 16:59Speaker 1: super neat by my standards, but of course my mom
- 17:01Speaker 1: comes back, she'll see my room. She'll think it's messy. Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 1: We're gonna open up phone lines and ask you a
- 17:06Speaker 1: question in just a little bit. Make sure you stand
- 17:08Speaker 1: by for that. Today's question all about discovering yourself and
- 17:12Speaker 1: characteristics about yourself when you had the opportunity to live.
- 17:15Speaker 1: on your own. Now, I know that for a lot
- 17:17Speaker 1: of us, especially Asians, especially Singaporeans, we may not get
- 17:22Speaker 1: to experience the whole like independent living because of, you know,
- 17:26Speaker 1: prices of property here in Singapore and all that. It's
- 17:29Speaker 1: either you travel overseas to study and you maybe stay
- 17:32Speaker 1: in hall or dorm, or maybe you had the chance
- 17:35Speaker 1: to move out.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Judging myself when I travel, I'm actually very simple.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I, I, I like my beds made. I like my
- 17:44Speaker 1: place neat. I like to come back to a neat
- 17:47Speaker 1: looking room, of course, everyone wants that. So with my
- 17:50Speaker 1: mom in Korea for a family visit to my aunt,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, Oh, please don't scold me anymore. Oh
- 17:55Speaker 1: my goodness, um, yeah, I, I realized I enjoy doing housework.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm now thinking about it, did I leave anything in
- 18:03Speaker 1: the pail or you gonna wash my jersey? I love it,
- 18:06Speaker 1: it really, I love it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And, and also because when my mom's at home, usually
- 18:10Speaker 1: she's the one that does it take care of these things, yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and the ironing and all, and she will help me
- 18:15Speaker 1: because busy at work, right, but now I realize I'm
- 18:18Speaker 1: finding pockets of time to dump everything in the washing machine,
- 18:21Speaker 1: iron the clothes, and when I smell the fresh detergent,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I go, Oh, I feel so accomplished succeeded in life. Exactly.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And every time I see how neat my house is,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I'm like, woo, wow, I mean, who did that? Can
- 18:35Speaker 1: I hire you or something like.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I mean, hey, if it pays, hey, hey, friendly. I
- 18:42Speaker 1: wouldn't mind you donating to the bank of Joakim Gomez.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's OK.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I just thought of it BOJ. I'm dead. No, but OK,
- 18:52Speaker 1: so my theory is that not, I, I'm very proud
- 18:54Speaker 1: of you, honestly, I'm glad that you discovered that about
- 18:57Speaker 1: yourself because what I discovered about myself after moving out
- 19:00Speaker 1: was more of a confirmation of our suspicions this entire
- 19:03Speaker 1: time that I am busy. That's right, that I'm busy,
- 19:08Speaker 1: that I'm messy. What can't even English do I speak it?
- 19:13Speaker 1: But I also busy. So that's the thing.
- 19:15Speaker 1: You mentioned earlier that your mom takes care of things
- 19:17Speaker 1: at home usually and we're like busy at work and
- 19:19Speaker 1: our hours are odd and all that, right? Yeah, I'm
- 19:21Speaker 1: sure Mama helped you as well. Of course, she still
- 19:24Speaker 1: helps me now because she cannot stand how disorganized I am.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So she will still bring like, um, let, let the
- 19:30Speaker 1: part-time helper in to my place to clean up like
- 19:33Speaker 1: every once every week or two weeks. So, if I
- 19:36Speaker 1: were to go to your place in the east and
- 19:38Speaker 1: I walk into the door, will I see clothes lying
- 19:41Speaker 1: around the floor? a pair of pants.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Germs used to say like, you know, when we, when
- 19:48Speaker 1: we first started living together, right, um, he used to
- 19:51Speaker 1: say he can tell exactly what I did that day
- 19:55Speaker 1: because he would say, OK, um, she left this cabinet
- 19:58Speaker 1: slightly open, she was taking something from here and then
- 20:01Speaker 1: you see a pair of socks on the ground. OK,
- 20:02Speaker 1: she came in through the socks here and then she
- 20:04Speaker 1: went to the toilet. And I remember one of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: first few things that Jeremy and Sonia had a friendly, I,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I won't say an argument, but like a friendly debate about, right?
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's, uh, I think there was one day where Jeremy
- 20:18Speaker 1: came home and he was vocalizing out loud, eh, why
- 20:22Speaker 1: is this cup here? I didn't leave it here. Eh,
- 20:26Speaker 1: why is the plate in the sink or something like that.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I remember this was like in 2019.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I mean, look, OK, um, you discover things about yourself
- 20:37Speaker 1: when you live on your own and like I said, yes,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you may enjoy it now. I'm not belittling it or like, um, um,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you know, undermining your, your abilities, but I'm saying the
- 20:46Speaker 1: true test is when you actually.
- 20:48Speaker 1: out there on your own, like in your own place,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and you have to maintain the entire house, like day
- 20:53Speaker 1: after day for years. OK, then I'll check in on
- 20:55Speaker 1: you again. 669-11987. The phone lines are open. You can
- 20:59Speaker 1: call us or you can WhatsApp us at 9005987.
- 21:04Speaker 1: If you have had the privilege to live on your own,
- 21:06Speaker 1: whether overseas on a uni dorm or your own rent
- 21:11Speaker 1: or you bought a place, yeah, let us know what's
- 21:13Speaker 1: the one thing you discovered about yourself living alone. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: about the things you might have about yourself when you
- 21:20Speaker 1: had the chance to live on your own, you know,
- 21:22Speaker 1: during uni, dorm or your
- 21:25Speaker 1: Um, holidays or maybe even moving out to, to just
- 21:28Speaker 1: be more independent, renting or buying. Got a couple of
- 21:31Speaker 1: texts coming in. Want to say good morning to Ray.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Hey guys, one thing I discovered about myself when I
- 21:36Speaker 1: was doing my exchange studies at Sciences Po in France
- 21:40Speaker 1: was that I genuinely enjoy hosting people at my apartment. Wow!
- 21:44Speaker 1: This stretch.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Across dinners, parties, and even friends that were just staying
- 21:48Speaker 1: over for the weekend. This experience differed greatly when I
- 21:52Speaker 1: stayed in the hall at NTU as the spaces there
- 21:55Speaker 1: were much smaller, and you don't really have your own
- 21:58Speaker 1: space to hold such events mentioned. The experience really made
- 22:01Speaker 1: me look forward to owning my own place. Oh, I mean,
- 22:04Speaker 1: I mean, you know what, it is a nice feeling.
- 22:06Speaker 1: The feeling of, um, you know, you can stay as
- 22:09Speaker 1: late as you want and you can just roll into
- 22:11Speaker 1: your bed after that. Hey, don't be surprised. Yeah, in
- 22:13Speaker 1: the next few years if I do have my own place, right,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I'll be inviting you and Jeremy and a few close
- 22:17Speaker 1: friends for like Friday dinners or cookouts or barbecues or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I might make a very good host, you know. OK,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'm waiting for it.
- 22:27Speaker 1: You've attended. Oh wait, no, you've been to my condo
- 22:31Speaker 1: before for the barbecue. For the barbecue, yes. Yes, for
- 22:33Speaker 1: the barbecue. So I haven't blessed your house with my presence. Oh,
- 22:36Speaker 1: not many people have actually. It's, it's a, it's a
- 22:38Speaker 1: very messy place right now. So I don't, I've not
- 22:41Speaker 1: invited anyone in like a whole year. Sorry about that. OK,
- 22:47Speaker 1: we got one message coming in from Japan. Sonia. hi. Hello, Alexis,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you're a Singaporean.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Students studying in Japan right now, you used to live
- 22:54Speaker 1: in the school dorm, but you moved out to your
- 22:57Speaker 1: own place. One thing you learn after living alone for
- 23:00Speaker 1: a year is that you actually enjoy doing chores. See?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Oh good. That's great. I just didn't like being told
- 23:06Speaker 1: what to do and when to do it. I like
- 23:09Speaker 1: doing things on my own accord. OK, so maybe that's
- 23:11Speaker 1: the big difference. Like when you're getting nagged at, it
- 23:14Speaker 1: seems like a chore, pun intended.
- 23:16Speaker 1: But when, when you have to do it on your
- 23:19Speaker 1: own and you find the satisfaction in it, suddenly you're like, hey,
- 23:22Speaker 1: I'm good at this. OK, a bit oversharing nowadays when
- 23:25Speaker 1: my mom nag at me to do things, right, I'm like, Mommy,
- 23:29Speaker 1: you know me, right? You know I will do it.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I just do it on my own time. The more
- 23:33Speaker 1: you nag, I won't do strategy, but too late for me.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I scolded, don't be rude.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So in the end, you just don't win lah. You
- 23:43Speaker 1: can't win with your mom. There's no winning, yeah. Talking
- 23:46Speaker 1: about the things you've discovered about yourselves, maybe um characteristics
- 23:49Speaker 1: or just quirks you discovered about yourself after moving out.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It could be, you know, for school when you study
- 23:54Speaker 1: overseas or you stay in a hall or dorm or
- 23:57Speaker 1: maybe even now in your adult life, having moved out already.
- 24:00Speaker 1: We got one coming in from WL. Hey guys, last
- 24:03Speaker 1: time before I married my wife, she always is the
- 24:06Speaker 1: one telling me to be.
- 24:07Speaker 1: neat and organized, not to create clutter and how she
- 24:11Speaker 1: had to do housework every day. I'm guessing in a
- 24:13Speaker 1: very frustrated tone, you know, I'm so messy. I must
- 24:15Speaker 1: do myself. Fast forward to today, we have our own
- 24:20Speaker 1: house with 2 kids, and it's been 2 years in
- 24:22Speaker 1: our own home already. She is always the one creating clutter,
- 24:26Speaker 1: and I really suspect whether she does any housework before
- 24:29Speaker 1: because the number of times she did at our home,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I can count with 2 hands.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Best part is no one believes me because she does
- 24:38Speaker 1: have the very homely and motherly vibe and I'm like
- 24:41Speaker 1: the opposite, but I swear it's true. She's not done
- 24:45Speaker 1: housework in a while. I'm guiltily right now.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I mean, I, it's for me, I don't particularly enjoy
- 24:55Speaker 1: doing housework, but you know, when push comes to shove
- 24:58Speaker 1: and um I'm drowning in my own clothes and plates,
- 25:02Speaker 1: then I'll do it lah.
- 25:04Speaker 1: What is the uh barometer for you? Where will you
- 25:07Speaker 1: start doing housework? When? Sorry. OK, so I don't dirty plates. OK,
- 25:15Speaker 1: so I will definitely the end of the day, I
- 25:17Speaker 1: was left in the sink.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Um, what else? OK, bathroom, I'm quite particular about as well.
- 25:24Speaker 1: These two things. I cannot smell musty, musky. I, I
- 25:29Speaker 1: wanted to say musty and musky at the same time.
- 25:33Speaker 1: So I will clean it. Yeah. What is considered housework
- 25:35Speaker 1: to you? Extreme is in your, in your mind? The
- 25:39Speaker 1: mind of Sonia Chew.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Like having to do multiple rounds of laundry is just
- 25:45Speaker 1: not it for me. I'm like, uh, I don't want
- 25:48Speaker 1: to hang clothes. I don't want to like old clothes.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Let's work out, but here's my problem is now, and
- 25:55Speaker 1: I know that my mom's going to agree with me
- 25:56Speaker 1: if she's tuning in, OK. The problem is I don't
- 25:58Speaker 1: mind putting the clothes in the, you know, washing machine
- 26:01Speaker 1: and hanging them.
- 26:02Speaker 1: But when I fold them, I have not enough space
- 26:05Speaker 1: to store them anymore. Like my, my closets are bursting.
- 26:08Speaker 1: You know what this means? Time for a Sonia Chew
- 26:11Speaker 1: grab bag. Oh God, I did that once before and
- 26:15Speaker 1: the process of packing the bags was like, oh my goodness,
- 26:18Speaker 1: took forever. No, no. I, I packed like 50 grab bags,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you know, it was not easy because you still have
- 26:28Speaker 1: to curate them, then my anus came in again.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Very type A, right? I was like, OK, I need
- 26:35Speaker 1: to pair this with this. Each bag needs to have
- 26:38Speaker 1: some nice stuff, so it took super long. Judging from
- 26:40Speaker 1: your sizes, mostly kids showed up. No, I sent it out,
- 26:44Speaker 1: so I don't know.
- 26:47Speaker 1: My daughter could use your clothes. Honestly, take it off
- 26:49Speaker 1: my hands. I'm surprised. We've got on the line right now.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Tell us, what did you discover? When
- 26:54Speaker 2: I was assigned overseas, I realized that after a while
- 26:58Speaker 2: I was very lonely. I was talking to myself.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Everything, yeah, about everything. It's just like an imaginary family
- 27:07Speaker 2: with me, you know.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I can actually relate because I, I think Jo
- 27:11Speaker 1: knows sometimes I just my random like inner thoughts. Oh yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I talk to myself too many times, but we're also
- 27:18Speaker 1: both like only children. Are you an only child, Chand?
- 27:20Speaker 2: 5 in my family, yeah.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I was, I was the youngest la, so I was
- 27:26Speaker 2: quite left alone all the time, you know, so, uh,
- 27:29Speaker 2: you know, the lonely part, I compensated it by talking
- 27:32Speaker 2: to my imaginary family for 5 years. So when I
- 27:35Speaker 2: came back and I was talking at home, you know, uh,
- 27:38Speaker 2: thinking that nobody's at home, then my wife used to
- 27:40Speaker 2: come in and ask me, Who the hell are you
- 27:42Speaker 2: talking to? And I said, it's not you, lah, the
- 27:44Speaker 2: other wife.
- 27:47Speaker 2: And that started a new argument.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I really think something is in retrograde these few weeks
- 27:54Speaker 1: because a lot of my friends.
- 27:57Speaker 1: A lot of my friends have, you know, been going
- 27:59Speaker 1: through stuff and they're just like, uh, it's not the
- 28:01Speaker 1: best time. Am I going through? Um, you're always going
- 28:05Speaker 1: through something, I think.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Something, something's happening. I'm the antithesis to astrology. I think
- 28:18Speaker 1: that what's going on out there in the universe. Anyway,
- 28:21Speaker 1: going back to common sense, say hello.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Like good luck finding a partner. I want to say
- 28:29Speaker 1: hello to VC on WhatsApp. Hey Sonia and Joakim, after
- 28:33Speaker 1: I have my, my, I have my own place, I
- 28:35Speaker 1: realized I hate to wash and change bedding sheets, so
- 28:41Speaker 1: I never allow dirty clothes on the bed. Means I
- 28:44Speaker 1: don't have to change bedding so often. Uh, VC doesn't
- 28:47Speaker 1: work that way. You still have to change the sheets.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And also, sorry, this one a bit too.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Much information, but I learned more about poop type and
- 28:56Speaker 1: how some might leave a mark on the bowl. Oh
- 28:59Speaker 1: my God. My friend swears by total toilet bowls though.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Gonna have to get that next time. Anyway, Sonia, if
- 29:05Speaker 1: you have a grab bag, I support. I can help
- 29:07Speaker 1: to pack, but let me have first dips. Sure, of course.
- 29:12Speaker 1: The last time I did that, um, all the money
- 29:14Speaker 1: just went to donation, uh, to charity. That's nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, um, hey,
- 29:19Speaker 1: when it comes down to
- 29:21Speaker 1: Um, toilet cleanliness, I will say. When I, on the,
- 29:24Speaker 1: on the very rare occasion that I have people over,
- 29:27Speaker 1: which is usually my parents or like one or two
- 29:29Speaker 1: of my girlfriends who live around the East Coast area
- 29:31Speaker 1: as well, um, I, I do have a tendency to
- 29:34Speaker 1: like give the toilet bowl a scrub down after, especially
- 29:37Speaker 1: if my friends came over.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I remember there was once when I just moved in,
- 29:44Speaker 1: skid marks whatsoever, when I just moved in, I, I
- 29:48Speaker 1: invited two of my close girlfriends to come over to
- 29:51Speaker 1: celebrate one of their birthdays, to which they were very excited,
- 29:54Speaker 1: you know, they came over and everything, um, but one
- 29:57Speaker 1: of them had a little too much to drink and
- 30:00Speaker 1: blessed my toilet bowl, if you know what I mean, so.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And that was that, that, that, that was how my
- 30:06Speaker 1: uh habit of scrubbing it down with Clorox and stuff started.
- 30:10Speaker 1: It's been Merlion, so to speak. One more coming in
- 30:14Speaker 1: from Nick. Hey, Sojo, the one thing I found out
- 30:17Speaker 1: about myself when I first moved out and after I
- 30:20Speaker 1: got married.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I have a lot of expired or near expiring foodstuff
- 30:24Speaker 1: in the fridge, not so much the perishables, but sauces
- 30:27Speaker 1: and all. Nick, you and my mom the same. Oh, I,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I love throwing out the expired stuff. Yeah, by the way, Mom,
- 30:33Speaker 1: your Chobani yogurt is expired. I'm throwing it away tomorrow.
- 30:36Speaker 1: 6 months or so, right? My goodness. That one you
- 30:41Speaker 1: better toss out that dairy and you know, yogurt and stuff. So, um.
- 30:46Speaker 1: This is usually around uh Joakim's favorite time of the year.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I say that with open inverted commas, OK, I say
- 30:53Speaker 1: that with open inverted commas. It's OK because Halloween Horror
- 30:56Speaker 1: Nights is officially back. Yeah, so yesterday, a lot of
- 30:59Speaker 1: your Singaporean personalities were invited, I believe, by RWS themselves for.
- 31:05Speaker 1: A preview night for Halloween Horror Night. I was so
- 31:08Speaker 1: bummed because I wasn't feeling quite well the last couple
- 31:11Speaker 1: of days. Felt like I was coming down with something.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I don't know whether I caught something from someone over
- 31:14Speaker 1: the wedding weekend or something, but thankfully I didn't come
- 31:18Speaker 1: down with anything. But I missed out on the preview
- 31:21Speaker 1: of Halloween Horror Nights. Did it look terrifying or scary, or,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I missed out, shut up. You know. You should see
- 31:30Speaker 1: him right now. He's smiling.
- 31:33Speaker 1: OK, he will always be permanently not free. So, I mean, again,
- 31:38Speaker 1: shout out to all the personalities and the influences we
- 31:41Speaker 1: have here in Singapore. If you can do your best
- 31:43Speaker 1: to not spoil the house too much. Like I know
- 31:45Speaker 1: you're compiling your videos and your photos and don't, don't
- 31:48Speaker 1: spoil the house too much for people who are actually
- 31:51Speaker 1: gonna pay to go for heaven horror nights. To be honest,
- 31:54Speaker 1: I will say though, no matter how
- 31:56Speaker 1: Any videos I see from your like favorite creators here,
- 31:59Speaker 1: it's still different when you go down yourself, you know.
- 32:01Speaker 1: So gonna tell you about the houses this year. I
- 32:04Speaker 1: think there are 4 Made in Hell XL Robotics. There's
- 32:09Speaker 1: a chatterbox, Charlie's vaudeville Horace, Singapore's Most Haunted on Air,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and Karanguni.
- 32:18Speaker 1: The cursed collection. Wait, hold on. There's a radio studio one. I,
- 32:23Speaker 1: I think maybe it's more of like a recording studio
- 32:26Speaker 1: or something that might happen on cameras in the studio
- 32:29Speaker 1: on air. I'm trying to peek on the, on the
- 32:32Speaker 1: site because yeah, when I, when I saw Singapore Most
- 32:35Speaker 1: Haunted on air, huh, joking in the mornings, but you
- 32:37Speaker 1: know what I mean? That's my horror story every day. Karanguni,
- 32:41Speaker 1: the Curse collection, they better have the Kaguni. I think
- 32:44Speaker 1: they will have, yeah, yeah, yeah, they will definitely.
- 32:47Speaker 1: The question is, because I think like, you know, Karanguni
- 32:50Speaker 1: is very our parents' generation and like when we were
- 32:52Speaker 1: kids and stuff, right? Do you think like the younger
- 32:55Speaker 1: people will understand what the maybe maybe the alphasmy what
- 33:00Speaker 1: is that? Gen Z, millennials and baby boomers can relate to.
- 33:05Speaker 1: You will at least know. And of course RWS will
- 33:07Speaker 1: target us millennials and Gen Zs and the baby boomers.
- 33:10Speaker 1: That's where the money is at, man. We all could
- 33:12Speaker 1: pay for the express pass or the RIP tours, but
- 33:15Speaker 1: can I read to you an interesting thing that that's
- 33:17Speaker 1: happening this year? So I think the main villain could
- 33:20Speaker 1: be the Garang guni man this year, and
- 33:24Speaker 1: Fatima Rockers. What is that a scare zone or what?
- 33:27Speaker 1: You will hear them before you see them. The Fatima
- 33:30Speaker 1: Rockers roam in packs appearing where you least expect them.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And if you see the pictures, they are dressed in
- 33:38Speaker 1: a very familiar female spirit that we, that I don't
- 33:42Speaker 1: want to say the name of here in Singapore.
- 33:44Speaker 1: as well scared. That's why. Yeah, he always, he always
- 33:47Speaker 1: calls it the lady. Yes, the lady, as in the
- 33:50Speaker 1: letter P. Why are you scared? Can I say it.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I don't want to say it. You're not allowed to
- 33:55Speaker 1: say the name Thursday. So any other day you can say.
- 33:58Speaker 1: There are some days you don't say it, specifically Thursday,
- 34:01Speaker 1: I guess so. Really? Where did you hear this from?
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah, they could be trolling they could be trolling me,
- 34:07Speaker 1: but yeah, you know, I'm gonna search this up after,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I don't believe you. I don't believe you. Got a
- 34:12Speaker 1: question for you, Jo.
- 34:14Speaker 1: And this one I feel is super relevant to to
- 34:17Speaker 1: everyone who's on social media very often. How much do
- 34:20Speaker 1: you trust your favorite celebrities, um, personalities, and maybe even
- 34:25Speaker 1: creators like?
- 34:28Speaker 1: But wouldn't you call yourself, uh, you, you a bit
- 34:31Speaker 1: double standard, right? You say that you are trustworthy. Again,
- 34:33Speaker 1: there are few who stand by with the supplements that
- 34:37Speaker 1: they take and then there are a few who are
- 34:40Speaker 1: there every single event, every single movie. Oh, it's so good.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So you're saying that this is kind of like the
- 34:47Speaker 1: same concepts, right? You don't know whether you want to
- 34:50Speaker 1: know that it's legit.
- 34:52Speaker 1: You know, you want to know that they are really
- 34:54Speaker 1: speaking from the heart and not a paid review because
- 34:56Speaker 1: we know how it works in our industry sometimes. But
- 34:58Speaker 1: now it goes beyond that. It's also, you know, your
- 35:01Speaker 1: favorite celebrities encouraging you to like invest in stuff and
- 35:04Speaker 1: all that, and they may not even be real. That's
- 35:06Speaker 1: the problem. Some of ours here in Singapore in cryptocurrency, quiet, please, please. Well,
- 35:13Speaker 1: we've got Steve Chia, our best friend, joining us in
- 35:15Speaker 1: just a minute.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Oh, he's very real. You're very much real, although a
- 35:20Speaker 1: lot of celebrity celebrity, but you are a trusted figure
- 35:25Speaker 1: in the media. different category altogether. A beloved, a beloved personality.
- 35:30Speaker 1: There you go. Yeah, keep it coming. I'm we're just
- 35:32Speaker 1: glazing this morning, yeah. By the way, we get nothing
- 35:35Speaker 1: out of inviting him to our show, you know, we
- 35:37Speaker 1: just hang out and this is all a scam. Oh.
- 35:41Speaker 1: What what's real anymore? Yeah, speaking of scam, when we
- 35:44Speaker 1: come back here on the show, we must address this.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Apparently Steve made the CEO of DBS very angry and
- 35:50Speaker 1: she stormed off the interview.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Um.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Added sound effects here. OK. Stay tuned. He's gonna tell
- 35:59Speaker 1: us everything you need to know about impersonations and scams
- 36:05Speaker 1: with one of the most well-loved people on screen here
- 36:08Speaker 1: in Singapore and our bestie, Steve Chia from CNN's Talking Point. Welcome.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Good to be back. He has put his time, his mind,
- 36:16Speaker 1: his body on the line for Talking Point, and now
- 36:20Speaker 1: his image. Oh my goodness. Look, I mean, if we
- 36:24Speaker 1: ever had anything we needed to clarify.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Steve is always here to do that just like what
- 36:28Speaker 1: our people are saying on TikTok Live right now. We
- 36:30Speaker 1: love Steve Chia, the legendary Steve Chia. Steve Chia is goat. Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 1: And by the way, so earlier I was just kind
- 36:37Speaker 1: of trolling Steve a little bit. I said, Hey, what happened?
- 36:41Speaker 1: How did you make the CEO of DBS so angry
- 36:43Speaker 1: and she stormed off set? And if you're wondering what
- 36:46Speaker 1: I'm referring to is this fake article that's been circulating
- 36:49Speaker 1: on social media. It's been now debunked. And if you're
- 36:52Speaker 1: on TikTok, you can see what the, what the article
- 36:54Speaker 1: looks like, where it's a
- 36:55Speaker 1: Uh, what seems to be an AI generated image of Steve,
- 36:59Speaker 1: which we can tell because we know him so well,
- 37:01Speaker 1: but I must say, uh, Miss Tan Susan looks scarily alike,
- 37:06Speaker 1: like she's not so fierce lah. Yeah, we've met her
- 37:09Speaker 1: and she's a lovely person. So yeah, this one looks
- 37:12Speaker 1: like you guys are in an argument. I mean, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: that's the whole premise of the story. I had done
- 37:16Speaker 1: an interview with her and I had said, oh, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: banks are basically taking our money and not giving us
- 37:22Speaker 1: very good returns, and she supposedly got upset.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Punch me in the face, got a bloody nose, you know,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and of course, after all that, I'm going back because
- 37:31Speaker 1: I know how we can make money. Let me show you.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Click on this link and I will show you all
- 37:38Speaker 1: the ways you can make money. Exactly. And that's the
- 37:42Speaker 1: short story of what it was all about. That's the
- 37:44Speaker 1: problem I think for a lot of us, especially people
- 37:47Speaker 1: who are scrolling all the time, you scroll really quickly
- 37:50Speaker 1: and sometimes you just assume everything is real, especially if
- 37:54Speaker 1: they see your likeness, right?
- 37:56Speaker 1: What is the percentage you feel of people who might
- 37:58Speaker 1: see a celebrity they recognize and trust what they're saying?
- 38:06Speaker 1: Associate certain things and you do trust certain people more
- 38:09Speaker 1: than others, right? So generally I think the stuff I've done,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I mean, I, I, you know, we try very hard
- 38:15Speaker 1: to make sure everything we do, if I say I'm
- 38:16Speaker 1: doing it, I'm doing it because the moment I start
- 38:19Speaker 1: lying about it and you find out, you stop believing
- 38:21Speaker 1: what I say, right? Yeah, so in that sense, that
- 38:24Speaker 1: could be why they use my face, you know, um.
- 38:26Speaker 1: And people, I mean, people were asking me. I had
- 38:28Speaker 1: friends calling me and saying, Hey, I've seen this. Is
- 38:31Speaker 1: it real? Did it really happen? You see, so people
- 38:33Speaker 1: don't look beyond the fact that even though the, the
- 38:35Speaker 1: bloody nose picture had me in an entirely different outfit,
- 38:39Speaker 1: which that come to the interview in a different outfit,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, and so a lot of things, yeah, a
- 38:43Speaker 1: lot of things didn't match. But because we're all hooked
- 38:46Speaker 1: on the, the, what, you know, the clickbait in that sense,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and the idea that, I mean, the basic premises we're
- 38:52Speaker 1: all quite
- 38:54Speaker 1: greedy and therefore easily tempted by an easy way to
- 38:57Speaker 1: make money, but yeah. So I interviewed a guy who
- 39:07Speaker 1: works in the financial services sector and he himself had
- 39:09Speaker 1: clicked on an ad. Uh, he thought, OK, I know
- 39:11Speaker 1: what I'm doing. He, he had gone, looked at the investment,
- 39:14Speaker 1: been approached by them. He had done his due diligence,
- 39:17Speaker 1: you know, uh, and he still got.
- 39:19Speaker 1: of $180,000. Wow! Yeah. You know why? So the scammers
- 39:25Speaker 1: are really smart. When they work with you, they do
- 39:28Speaker 1: not everything is illegitimate, not everything is fake. They'll say
- 39:32Speaker 1: this company ABC, uh, I expect it to go up,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you know, by 2% or whatever, uh, then they send
- 39:37Speaker 1: you to a platform, a real platform, a real stock
- 39:40Speaker 1: market indices, you know, and then they'll say we are
- 39:43Speaker 1: supported by this company.
- 39:45Speaker 1: That is a real company that exists. So when you
- 39:47Speaker 1: do your research, it all looks legit. But somewhere along
- 39:51Speaker 1: the way, they lead you astray. What was that like?
- 39:59Speaker 1: Did you or was it like a cordial and respectful?
- 40:07Speaker 1: I mean this scam, we contacted the platforms right away.
- 40:10Speaker 1: They took it down.
- 40:11Speaker 1: But unbeknown to me, it popped up on another website.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So basically they just use a different website address, right?
- 40:17Speaker 1: So I met with someone and he says, let's try it.
- 40:19Speaker 1: So we clicked on it. This is all being recorded.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Within like 6-7 minutes, I got a phone call from
- 40:24Speaker 1: the scammer himself. Hello, Mr. Chia, I see you are
- 40:27Speaker 1: interested in investing. Yeah well-spoken said, Oh, I'm calling you from.
- 40:32Speaker 1: You know, we are a big company and we are
- 40:35Speaker 1: able to help you and, and then I'll be like, oh,
- 40:38Speaker 1: tell me a bit more. And he was very professional,
- 40:42Speaker 1: very fluent. Was the actual person or like an AI.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it was a real person. The the
- 40:47Speaker 1: scary part is what if like AI has become so
- 40:49Speaker 1: advanced that you can't even differentiate between AI and a person.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Thing with someone online, there's a very high chance that
- 40:55Speaker 1: it could be AI generated with a real person because
- 40:57Speaker 1: I was asking questions and he was so good. He
- 41:00Speaker 1: was like, oh, I was like, how do I start investing?
- 41:02Speaker 1: He's like, minimum is $250 and he explained how it
- 41:06Speaker 1: all worked. And then at the end of the conversation,
- 41:09Speaker 1: I was like, OK, I'm interested. I would like to
- 41:11Speaker 1: put in, uh, $2000. He's like,
- 41:14Speaker 1: Sir, I think you should only start with $250 1st.
- 41:18Speaker 1: That's very smart, you know, and that's what they do.
- 41:26Speaker 1: The first few times you will get your money back
- 41:28Speaker 1: and you will make money and then you start putting
- 41:31Speaker 1: more in. I've made $100. 0, that was easy. $30,000.
- 41:38Speaker 1: OK, now you get nothing back. I didn't, you know,
- 41:54Speaker 1: became friends and
- 41:55Speaker 1: And he was saying how I got my business, I
- 41:58Speaker 1: need to renovate, but I can't afford it. And some, uh,
- 42:01Speaker 1: just like two months into the relationship, so to speak,
- 42:04Speaker 1: and the person says, oh, maybe you can think about investing.
- 42:08Speaker 1: And then he's like, oh, actually, I know, I know
- 42:09Speaker 1: a way and I know some people. And he introduced
- 42:12Speaker 1: him to that platform and
- 42:14Speaker 1: So based on your research and your investigative journalism, like, um,
- 42:19Speaker 1: you know, you said you spoke to this one dude
- 42:22Speaker 1: on the phone or something in the conversation, right? But
- 42:24Speaker 1: because it's like a long game, is it like multiple people,
- 42:27Speaker 1: like a group of 20 just taking over the conversation,
- 42:35Speaker 1: but they're following a script?
- 42:35Speaker 1: For the next 2 weeks, they called every day. They
- 42:40Speaker 1: called back. We didn't pick up the calls, but we
- 42:41Speaker 1: saw the missed calls. Every day they were calling, sometimes
- 42:44Speaker 1: twice a day because they want to follow up. The
- 42:47Speaker 1: fact that they can say, oh, just put in a
- 42:49Speaker 1: little bit first.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Do you think the scammers are actually studying the sentiments.
- 42:58Speaker 1: There is a whole manual for scammers. It's like. I mean, we,
- 43:02Speaker 1: we've all heard about this, you know, in other countries
- 43:04Speaker 1: where they've invaded scam compounds and seized.
- 43:07Speaker 1: It's like a multinational company. They run it in ways
- 43:10Speaker 1: that you cannot imagine like Media Corp. I mean, they
- 43:13Speaker 1: have operations, they have HR, they have everything, you know,
- 43:16Speaker 1: and we also discovered from speaking to the police that
- 43:19Speaker 1: a lot of these things are located geographically in different countries.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Why do you do that?
- 43:24Speaker 1: Because then it's hard to really catch them and different jurisdiction.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Country A cannot do anything in Country B and some countries,
- 43:32Speaker 1: different regulations, different rules, you know, you might get away
- 43:34Speaker 1: with some stuff there. It is, it's more than a syndicate.
- 43:38Speaker 1: It's a billion, multi-billion.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Syndicate. So based off what you learned about all these
- 43:46Speaker 1: scams and scams in general that surprised you the most?
- 43:56Speaker 1: Uh, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong,
- 43:59Speaker 1: you know, uh, I've got all these people, you know,
- 44:01Speaker 1: this is my crowd, yeah, making money with them, but, um,
- 44:04Speaker 1: the premise is if it's too good to be true,
- 44:06Speaker 1: it really is too good to be true. You can't,
- 44:08Speaker 1: you can't make a fast buck. Nothing can ever promise
- 44:11Speaker 1: you a fast buck, I think.
- 44:13Speaker 1: So the the story doesn't change, but it's so easy
- 44:15Speaker 1: to write the story because online it's just words, right,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and pictures easily manipulated and now we've seen with the
- 44:21Speaker 1: deep fake videos as well. So this, this episode on cryptocurrency? Ah,
- 44:26Speaker 1: we do, because very often they're now asking you to
- 44:28Speaker 1: pay in cryptocurrency. And the best part is, yes, they
- 44:33Speaker 1: say pay to this platform. It's a real crypto wallet
- 44:36Speaker 1: at first.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Along the way, they'll say, now transfer it to this
- 44:40Speaker 1: other wallet. Yeah, really risky. Like honestly, even some of
- 44:46Speaker 1: the dudes who are in finance, for example, when crypto
- 44:48Speaker 1: just came about, they themselves also people who think that
- 44:51Speaker 1: they are savvy with finance, they also got scammed.
- 44:53Speaker 1: And they got their digital wallets like broken into, um,
- 44:56Speaker 1: coins stolen and all that. Can I, can I share
- 44:58Speaker 1: with you? OK. And this person works for one of
- 45:05Speaker 1: the agencies who are actually tied in with this whole
- 45:07Speaker 1: anti-scam thing, right?
- 45:09Speaker 1: Her aunt got scammed of $30,000 and till this day,
- 45:15Speaker 1: the aunt is blaming the family, saying, See lah, you
- 45:18Speaker 1: all say I got scammed. The scammer don't want to
- 45:20Speaker 1: return me my money. Oh my gosh, the, the bank
- 45:22Speaker 1: teller she calls it, and it's scary. So how can
- 45:26Speaker 1: people here in Singapore fight this? I mean, it really
- 45:29Speaker 1: is a psychological game. What they're doing isn't really mind blowing,
- 45:32Speaker 1: you know, the concept.
- 45:34Speaker 1: But yeah, just be more aware and really if it
- 45:37Speaker 1: offers you an easy opportunity to make money, just ask yourself,
- 45:40Speaker 1: can it really be that way and do a bit
- 45:42Speaker 1: more research because very often if you just double-check, put
- 45:45Speaker 1: up the website address, somebody will have encountered it and
- 45:48Speaker 1: flagged it, you know. I mean, yeah, cryptocurrency is a
- 45:50Speaker 1: hard one. I mean that day I bought myself something
- 45:53Speaker 1: called a Dad coin.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Of course you did. It's worthless but full of jokes,
- 45:57Speaker 1: you know. Oh no. Scammers are obviously not very nice
- 46:00Speaker 1: to their victims, but they are super nice. They act nice.
- 46:05Speaker 1: But the intention is bad. Yeah, but you don't know
- 46:07Speaker 1: that until it's too late. It's it's a wolf in
- 46:09Speaker 1: sheep's clothing. So in turn you are nice to them too.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That's the thing. How interesting. OK. Can I ask you
- 46:15Speaker 1: a fun one? Sure. Between the two of us, Steve,
- 46:18Speaker 1: who's more scammable? Who do you think is more scammable?
- 46:22Speaker 1: I know the answer he's looking for.
- 46:24Speaker 1: No, no, no, don't give it to him. Don't baiting
- 46:27Speaker 1: you again you could say the example he gave the
- 46:31Speaker 1: financial advisor who said he knew what he was doing
- 46:33Speaker 1: but he lost $180,000. That could have been me.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I would say equally scammable in different ways. I was
- 46:43Speaker 1: gonna say that, yeah. OK, then what do you think
- 46:45Speaker 1: Joakim will fall for and what will I fall for?
- 46:52Speaker 1: Just based on what you know of us personality-wise I
- 46:53Speaker 1: don't know, it could be a scam.
- 46:56Speaker 1: OK, this one, this one I can happily say no lah.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I don't think love scam, but maybe like you tell
- 47:02Speaker 1: me football scam. Oh yeah, that's true. Cheap tickets to
- 47:05Speaker 1: Old Trafford. I'll, I'll get it, man. I'll try. And
- 47:08Speaker 1: then for, for our darling, please now that she's married,
- 47:11Speaker 1: you know the assessment, yeah, um.
- 47:14Speaker 1: He's really, he's really assessing, another one of those, maybe like, uh,
- 47:20Speaker 1: some products endorse something, endorsement scam endorsements, OK, I was
- 47:25Speaker 1: gonna say package scam scam as in like shopping. No, no, like,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know, manicures or like massage or something, oh, if
- 47:33Speaker 1: you buy like 5, you know, we're trying to figure
- 47:36Speaker 1: out whether it's a scam or not.
- 47:38Speaker 1: You know, this is another story someone pitched to us
- 47:40Speaker 1: where these beauty salons, they open up, they sell packages,
- 47:43Speaker 1: then they close down, they declare bankruptcy, and they open
- 47:47Speaker 1: up in the same location with a different name. I
- 47:49Speaker 1: think you should do it if you are doing an
- 47:52Speaker 1: episode like that, I can be a bit and you
- 47:54Speaker 1: have a camera, I volunteer Sonia as the as the
- 47:59Speaker 1: unsuspecting victim. You know all about the packages.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Yeah. OK. But before we, we wrap it up, I think,
- 48:05Speaker 1: you know, the consensus that a lot of people have is,
- 48:08Speaker 1: if it's too good to be true, it probably is
- 48:10Speaker 1: too good. You know, there's no free meal in this world,
- 48:13Speaker 1: as people are saying, can't get rich overnight. Anything else
- 48:16Speaker 1: that we need to take note of, like, and the
- 48:18Speaker 1: episode drops tonight, so I know you don't want to
- 48:20Speaker 1: give too much away, but anything else you want to share? I,
- 48:24Speaker 1: I think it's
- 48:24Speaker 1: Always uh, it might help to, to share with someone
- 48:28Speaker 1: and say, hey, I'm doing this, and you know, an
- 48:30Speaker 1: outside perspective sometimes will help because you're kind of caught
- 48:32Speaker 1: in the moment, especially when they return money the first
- 48:35Speaker 1: few times you're like, Oh, I've made some money, you know, uh,
- 48:38Speaker 1: and of course you can always just check in because
- 48:40Speaker 1: police are doing a lot of things. They have a
- 48:42Speaker 1: whole department dedicated to this scam shield on our phones helps,
- 48:45Speaker 1: but it obviously doesn't block everything.
- 48:48Speaker 1: You know, um, I unfortunately don't really have a foolproof solution.
- 48:52Speaker 1: It's really just about thinking and asking yourself, taking a moment,
- 48:55Speaker 1: especially a pause just to say, let me think about it.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Could this really be, can I really make $100 in
- 49:02Speaker 1: just 30 minutes, right?
- 49:04Speaker 1: If you could, and if it really worked, everybody will
- 49:07Speaker 1: be doing it and there'll be a whole bunch of
- 49:08Speaker 1: rich people around us. I mean vigilant. So in fact,
- 49:16Speaker 1: another one, if you look at my Instagram, got to
- 49:18Speaker 1: me on Instagram and said, Hey, I need your help.
- 49:20Speaker 1: My aunt is being scammed by someone who looks like you.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Can you please record a video of yourself.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Telling her that it's all fake. So immediately I was like,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I'm not gonna send you a video for sure, you know,
- 49:32Speaker 1: but I did communicate with this person seemed really genuine,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and they sent me a picture of myself on with my, uh,
- 49:40Speaker 1: my face on an IC, you know. So it was
- 49:43Speaker 1: just not my name, it was Steven Chen, but basically, yeah.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I'm trying to pull it out now, but basically, yeah,
- 49:49Speaker 1: they're using that, so, so I, I still don't know
- 49:51Speaker 1: till today whether that was true or not. I did
- 49:54Speaker 1: report it to the police, you know, they did sort
- 49:55Speaker 1: of try to track it down, but they did tell
- 49:58Speaker 1: me that, um, that this number is this IC number
- 50:01Speaker 1: has been used before, has been flagged. So I think
- 50:04Speaker 1: the first, the first thing everyone should do is just
- 50:05Speaker 1: the moment you get something, just report it because the
- 50:08Speaker 1: police also can benefit.
- 50:09Speaker 1: from the more people flag it, the more they have
- 50:12Speaker 1: in their database to know and they can check on it.
- 50:14Speaker 1: That's great. OK, good. Wow, I mean, I think out
- 50:17Speaker 1: of all the celebrities that we know, you're probably the
- 50:19Speaker 1: one with, uh, you know, most face out there right now,
- 50:23Speaker 1: most trustworthy. They won't, I don't know. I don't think
- 50:27Speaker 1: we look very trustworthy, do we? For example,
- 50:30Speaker 1: You in some high fashion scam. They, they put me
- 50:33Speaker 1: in some sports scam or running scam or running supplements,
- 50:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You never know. Somebody watching
- 50:40Speaker 1: us right now on TikTok Li could be working for
- 50:41Speaker 1: a scam syndicate. Think about this. It's OK. It's OK.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I have a way to solve all of this. I mean,
- 50:47Speaker 1: there are a lot of scams out there, and I
- 50:48Speaker 1: can help you just for 79.95.
- 50:52Speaker 1: And 2 minutes of your time.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Thank you so much Steve, for joining us. Always a joy.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I'm lowkey a little disappointed there was not another dad
- 51:02Speaker 1: joke to wrap this up. Oh, OK, I mean there
- 51:04Speaker 1: was one time a scammer invisible, but I just can't
- 51:08Speaker 1: see myself buying that.
- 51:11Speaker 1: I walked right into that one, Joe. You asked for it.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I asked for it. Ask and it shall be delivered traffic. Anyway,
- 51:18Speaker 1: please catch Talking Points. It's 9:30 p.m. on Channel 5
- 51:22Speaker 1: and of course onWatch and later on on YouTube. Yeah, exactly.
- 51:27Speaker 1: So give Steve a follow as well, not Steve Chen Steve. Yes.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Catch up with all the best bits of our show
- 51:31Speaker 1: on me Listen and Spotify.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Aside from today being the start of PSLE, we also
- 51:36Speaker 1: say Avengers Endgame Encore. It's out in cinemas. I've got
- 51:41Speaker 1: my ticket. Oh, you already did to watch it next week. OK. Yeah,
- 51:45Speaker 1: apparently there are 4 minutes of additional scenes and
- 51:49Speaker 1: Uh, you might want to avoid TikTok for a while. Oh,
- 51:52Speaker 1: lots of spoilers. People are spoiling what the bonus overseas
- 51:55Speaker 1: or what, yeah, and also your favorite movie reviewers, some
- 51:59Speaker 1: of them, but I like them because they will always
- 52:02Speaker 1: issue a 12th spoiler warning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Then
- 52:05Speaker 1: if you want to find out, you can watch the video.
- 52:07Speaker 1: So they've broken down.
- 52:08Speaker 1: The scenes already. I'm not going to spoil it for myself.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I want to be surprised in the cinema. I'm quite
- 52:12Speaker 1: good at avoiding spoilers. Like if there is a movie
- 52:15Speaker 1: or something that's super hyped up about, the moment I
- 52:17Speaker 1: see any semblance of your escrow pass, I like slap immediately.
- 52:21Speaker 1: And also because you're the spoiler. No, I'm not. I
- 52:23Speaker 1: learned from my mistake. Mistake. That was the one time.
- 52:28Speaker 1: I'll never forgive you for something you did 12 years ago, bro.
- 52:33Speaker 1: This is why you're single, OK.
- 52:36Speaker 1: You must forgive and forget. Context is Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. OK,
- 52:41Speaker 1: we can now say we, we know his love interest
- 52:44Speaker 1: dies in the film. I don't know why Joy needs
- 52:46Speaker 1: to repeat this every year. OK. And then I didn't
- 52:49Speaker 1: even watch it yet and Sonia was like, Oh my God,
- 52:51Speaker 1: did you see the movie? Yeah, I'm so sad, right?
- 52:53Speaker 1: Emma Stone died.
- 52:56Speaker 1: OK, hold on, hold on. In my defense, in my defense,
- 52:59Speaker 1: I really thought that these were endings that are known already,
- 53:02Speaker 1: like in the, in the books or the comics. So
- 53:06Speaker 1: that's why I thought, that's why I thought I didn't
- 53:08Speaker 1: think you'd be surprised. Yeah, I went into the cinema
- 53:10Speaker 1: so angry and to be honest, I don't think he's
- 53:14Speaker 1: let go of that anger yet. So I hope, I
- 53:16Speaker 1: hope that you're more forgiving when it comes to your
- 53:19Speaker 1: future dates or wife, you know a therapist. Oh, you
- 53:22Speaker 1: mean you still haven't found a therapist? No wonder it's
- 53:24Speaker 1: still like that.
