- 0:58Speaker 2: How are we doing, sir?
- 1:00Speaker 5: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Guys doing fantastic? Glad to have you on as always.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna play a little game here from the Jump
- 1:07Speaker 2: Street with you. A draft game, okay, because we've been
- 1:10Speaker 2: doing mock drafts over on NFL Radio, and the Saints
- 1:13Speaker 2: keep coming up with a good person to draft, like
- 1:17Speaker 2: somebody that they would love, I think to fall into
- 1:19Speaker 2: their lap, somebody that typically wouldn't go at number eight
- 1:23Speaker 2: depending on how it plays out. So I think they're
- 1:25Speaker 2: in a great spot. But I'm gonna give you three players,
- 1:28Speaker 2: all right, Nick, Lenn, give you three players that all
- 1:30Speaker 2: fall to the New Orleans Saints pick at eight, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: you got to tell me which one you would draft
- 1:34Speaker 2: and why?
- 1:35Speaker 4: Sound good?
- 1:36Speaker 5: I'm ready, all right?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Rubin Bain, Monsieur Delaine, and Caleb Downs, all three of
- 1:42Speaker 2: those players are available when the Saints select at eight,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and you would select which player and why?
- 1:50Speaker 5: I gotta take Ruby Baine in that scenarios just because
- 1:54Speaker 5: it's the most premium position and he might give you
- 1:57Speaker 5: a long term answer at that spot. I mean, look,
- 2:01Speaker 5: look at the depth chart, right, I say young in,
- 2:04Speaker 5: Carl Randerson, and then you probably can't name the third
- 2:06Speaker 5: guy because Kim George is still cre agent and either way,
- 2:10Speaker 5: like Kim Kams in his last year, whether he comes
- 2:13Speaker 5: back or not, I don't imagine that goes much longer
- 2:15Speaker 5: than that. So I think you just kind of have
- 2:17Speaker 5: to take Dame and believe in the tape, Like I know,
- 2:20Speaker 5: the measurements and everything else is incredibly terrifying, and he's
- 2:25Speaker 5: an extreme outlier. He'd even be a little bit of
- 2:28Speaker 5: an outlier, like if you move them to the inside,
- 2:30Speaker 5: but you watch him play like it's just it's tough
- 2:33Speaker 5: to deny it. So I would have to take the
- 2:36Speaker 5: gamble there and know that there's a little bit more
- 2:39Speaker 5: variance with him then down to I think probably is
- 2:42Speaker 5: the statest player in the draft. So I did the three.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I do him in that order. I go, I go
- 2:47Speaker 5: bang downs and then and then probably delayed for this team,
- 2:50Speaker 5: mostly because how they want to play too, like their
- 2:52Speaker 5: preferences to have a safety more of an overhang type
- 2:55Speaker 5: player in the slot. So if you take Delane, you're
- 2:58Speaker 5: kind of moving away from your ideal scheme. They aren't
- 3:00Speaker 5: defined enough to really be married to anything yet, but
- 3:03Speaker 5: like the way they want to play it, I think
- 3:05Speaker 5: is that way. So you know, if it's between those two,
- 3:08Speaker 5: I go downs. But if it's between the three, I
- 3:10Speaker 5: go bang man.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I mean, but Dell Diggs, Myers, Cole just slander here
- 3:14Speaker 2: on this show.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I mean they just haven't played though, you know, like.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No, you don't have to answer that. That was just
- 3:21Speaker 2: that was just a joke.
- 3:22Speaker 4: I just look, I just saw a picture at point.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I just saw a picture.
- 3:28Speaker 6: It doesn't look like he's got short arms. To me,
- 3:31Speaker 6: that was like normal size football player arms right there.
- 3:34Speaker 6: I don't know what them.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I know the measure they're under thirty one inches. I
- 3:37Speaker 2: live back all the way to nineteen ninety nine to
- 3:39Speaker 2: try to find an edge rusher. They got selected in
- 3:41Speaker 2: the first round with under thirty one inch arms and
- 3:44Speaker 2: the information is just not there. How much does Mickey
- 3:48Speaker 2: Loomis and the Saints care about that?
- 3:51Speaker 5: I don't think they do. I don't think it's a
- 3:53Speaker 5: problem for them at all, specifically in this case. Like
- 3:57Speaker 5: they're they're very, very married to their proto types. And
- 4:00Speaker 5: you know that that that was like a massive Bill
- 4:03Speaker 5: Parcells thing, Jeff Ireland's Bill Parcell's disciple. Like they they
- 4:07Speaker 5: they are are adamant with their prototypes. But in this case,
- 4:12Speaker 5: like I think they're incredibly comfortable with making the exception
- 4:15Speaker 5: that they know why you know, it's Bain standing next
- 4:19Speaker 5: to someone in that picture because like it's not like
- 4:20Speaker 5: his arms are disproportionate to his body, Like he's just small,
- 4:24Speaker 5: Like he's a small he's he's not he's not normal.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Like you know, I went out to uh the Louisville
- 4:30Speaker 5: Miami game to watch him, and when I went on,
- 4:34Speaker 5: I was surprised when I when I saw him on
- 4:36Speaker 5: the field, like he's you know, it's it's it's a
- 4:40Speaker 5: smaller guy, Like it's like you hear it and then
- 4:42Speaker 5: you see it and it's surprising. Like I don't know
- 4:45Speaker 5: if you guys remember Adam big Hill, but you hear
- 4:48Speaker 5: when Adam big Hill was with the same I don't
- 4:52Speaker 5: think back from the CFL, like you know, it's not
- 4:56Speaker 5: that small. But he's definitely like you see him out
- 4:58Speaker 5: here like man like that that's a guy, Like you're
- 5:00Speaker 5: a little bit surprised by it, and then you watch
- 5:02Speaker 5: him play and you kind of forget that that he's undersized,
- 5:05Speaker 5: you know, I don't think it's like you know, a
- 5:08Speaker 5: comic book character with like you know, short short arms
- 5:11Speaker 5: for his pocket. Yeah, but he's a normal guy. But
- 5:15Speaker 5: just you know, standing next to six foot four guys,
- 5:17Speaker 5: six foot six guys, like you know, he he looks
- 5:20Speaker 5: he looks a little bit small.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Huh, Nick.
- 5:24Speaker 6: Give me okay, So I think in the recent history
- 5:28Speaker 6: for Saints fans, they've always left the first round maybe
- 5:33Speaker 6: a little bit sad, maybe a little bit mad, maybe
- 5:35Speaker 6: a little disappointed, maybe confused. Give me a couple of
- 5:39Speaker 6: guys that if they hear their name cal Like we're
- 5:42Speaker 6: talking about all the people that we think they should
- 5:44Speaker 6: take right, But who's a realistic opportunity for the Saints
- 5:48Speaker 6: to take with that eighth pick that will leave Saints
- 5:51Speaker 6: fans a little disappointed.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Uh well, I think I think it would probably be
- 5:56Speaker 5: like like uh Waga or Fano, like one of the
- 6:00Speaker 5: offensive tackles that I think they could draft one of
- 6:02Speaker 5: them guys and essentially just keep building their trenches. And uh,
- 6:06Speaker 5: I think people would be furious. I'd be furious about it.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Like I think it'd probably long term be a good pick.
- 6:12Speaker 5: You know, building out the line is always a good thing.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Bubbly likes it when it's happening. But when it's done
- 6:18Speaker 5: and your quarterback's not getting backed and you're you know,
- 6:21Speaker 5: averaging five pointy eight yards per carry on inside zones
- 6:24Speaker 5: like you you're happy about it in November, but on
- 6:27Speaker 5: April twenty sixth or whatever it is. I mean, it's
- 6:30Speaker 5: a boring pick like it like offensive lines, it's not
- 6:33Speaker 5: it's not fun to talk about. You guys got to
- 6:36Speaker 5: do five shows a week. We do three. You can't.
- 6:38Speaker 5: You can't talk about Kelvin Banks Junior three times a
- 6:42Speaker 5: week for six months going into the season. It's just
- 6:45Speaker 5: it's tough. So so you know, I hope they do
- 6:48Speaker 5: the funner thing and take a guy that has you know,
- 6:51Speaker 5: production and things to talk about. But I think that
- 6:54Speaker 5: that's a realistic thing that they can do that that
- 6:56Speaker 5: would leave people a little bit perplexed, you know, jeremih
- 7:00Speaker 5: I love, I don't know, you know, I think I
- 7:02Speaker 5: think that would be a polarizing pick too if they
- 7:04Speaker 5: did that just because A where it's at B they
- 7:09Speaker 5: just drafted H and and then you know, see, I
- 7:12Speaker 5: think that would you know, I think almost immediately after
- 7:16Speaker 5: like Alvin Kamara wouldn't be a saint anymore. So I
- 7:19Speaker 5: think that would be something that that would probably be
- 7:21Speaker 5: pretty polarizing and upsetting the people too. So yeah, I
- 7:24Speaker 5: mean that there's a couple of things. I'm not expecting
- 7:27Speaker 5: any of that thought. I think it's going to be
- 7:28Speaker 5: probably you know, one of the guys, Jake was saying, like,
- 7:31Speaker 5: I think those are all realistics on any styles I'd
- 7:34Speaker 5: thrown that and that mixed, and then I think maybe
- 7:36Speaker 5: someone like Makaya Lemon or Carnell Tate or realistic possibilities
- 7:40Speaker 5: to just just no o line man, like.
- 7:43Speaker 4: It would be with you.
- 7:47Speaker 2: A little bit more fun. Let's do it for sure.
- 7:50Speaker 5: You could you know, like you could defend it, but
- 7:53Speaker 5: it's just like I don't want to see the Triple
- 7:56Speaker 5: A membership, like go buy the car, Like let's stuck
- 7:58Speaker 5: about the car.
- 7:59Speaker 6: For I think that's what we should start right now.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Life's too short to draft alignment. That's how I feel
- 8:05Speaker 6: right now.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I think it might makes it agree well, first for
- 8:09Speaker 2: the Saints at least, because they've got three first rounders
- 8:12Speaker 2: already on their offensive line. Yeah, and they they traded.
- 8:16Speaker 6: You got too many friends in high places? What you
- 8:19Speaker 6: didn't co sign my statement? No, I can do it
- 8:21Speaker 6: for the Saints.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I'll do it. Yeah, they got three first rounders, the
- 8:23Speaker 2: second rounder and the guy they just paid a lot
- 8:24Speaker 2: of money to. I'll sign off. Too short to draft alignment.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I am with you there, Nick Underhill, new Oancetuff Football
- 8:30Speaker 2: is our guest here on OTB.
- 8:31Speaker 4: All right.
- 8:32Speaker 2: As much as I'm intrigued by eight, I think they're
- 8:34Speaker 2: going to get a great player at eight. The way
- 8:36Speaker 2: this draft is feeling, the way that I think it's
- 8:38Speaker 2: going to fall to them, they're going to have their
- 8:39Speaker 2: choice any of the three players I gave you. If
- 8:41Speaker 2: they select that guy, I'm happy. As a Saints fan.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I want to talk about forty two though, because if
- 8:47Speaker 2: they get a defensive player with that first pick, then
- 8:51Speaker 2: it almost has to be a playmaker. Now, I don't
- 8:54Speaker 2: know who's going to be still alive. There is it
- 8:56Speaker 2: a Jeremy Bernard out of Alabama, Casey can said show him?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Maybe he falls from a and m Zachariah Branch from Georgia.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Maybe it's Eli Stowers tight end from Vanderbilt. I mean
- 9:06Speaker 2: that's you know, tight end's not just completely solidified for
- 9:10Speaker 2: the same thing. They're paying somebody a lot of money.
- 9:12Speaker 2: They just paid another free agent, but it's not like
- 9:14Speaker 2: they can't bring in another guy at the position. Let's
- 9:17Speaker 2: talk about forty two. Let's say they select defense there
- 9:20Speaker 2: in the first round, Nick, what do you think the
- 9:22Speaker 2: first thing that they're going to be looking at is
- 9:23Speaker 2: going to be.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Stowers? Is kind of interesting to me too, Like I've
- 9:28Speaker 5: seen today that teams are trying them out a little
- 9:30Speaker 5: bit or envision them a little bit at wide receiver two.
- 9:35Speaker 5: And he has to build like he's a bigger guy.
- 9:37Speaker 5: He can make them physical catches. So if there's just
- 9:40Speaker 5: that flexibility to kind of do everything, like yeah, maybe
- 9:43Speaker 5: there is room, you know, especially in that particular case
- 9:46Speaker 5: for three guys like you paid Juwan, he paid Tanno.
- 9:50Speaker 5: But if you get Stowers and he can do a
- 9:51Speaker 5: little bit of everything and give you some of that,
- 9:54Speaker 5: like that really makes you even more unpredictable, and you
- 9:57Speaker 5: know people are able to properly counter you just based
- 10:01Speaker 5: on the personnel and the mouddle and everything, so that
- 10:03Speaker 5: that could be that could be a really interesting pick
- 10:04Speaker 5: for them. Yeah, I think my ideal world is defense
- 10:09Speaker 5: ave eight offensive at forty two. I like that spot.
- 10:12Speaker 5: I think there's a lot of good options there all
- 10:15Speaker 5: the guys you said. I like Bernard a lot. I
- 10:17Speaker 5: don't think people talk about him enough. He kind of
- 10:20Speaker 5: reminds me of like Willie Steve, but it's with the
- 10:24Speaker 5: hellcat package on it, Like there's just a little bit
- 10:27Speaker 5: more to it, Like it's it's there's just it just
- 10:30Speaker 5: the same type of player, kind of physical and in
- 10:32Speaker 5: that regard, kind of wins the same way. That's just
- 10:34Speaker 5: like a little bit a little bit better athlete. I
- 10:36Speaker 5: like him quite a bit. Chris Bell obviously, I think
- 10:39Speaker 5: I think it's someone that you just have to circle
- 10:41Speaker 5: just especially because like your quarterback really wants them on
- 10:44Speaker 5: the team. So that's someone that I would keep it on.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Darian Price, Like, I don't know if he gets all
- 10:49Speaker 5: the way down the forty two, but that's a guy
- 10:51Speaker 5: that I would kind of have earmark two is a
- 10:53Speaker 5: possibility in that spot. I think if they go running back,
- 10:57Speaker 5: it's probably a little bit later. I think I think
- 10:59Speaker 5: there's you know, quietly a little bit of depth in
- 11:01Speaker 5: the in the back end. But I wouldn't I wouldn't
- 11:04Speaker 5: scratch off Price in that range either. I think I
- 11:06Speaker 5: think it's a definite possibility there. But I think it's
- 11:09Speaker 5: your ideal world. Yeah, that's the way you go. And
- 11:11Speaker 5: I think maybe you look at that defense like it's
- 11:14Speaker 5: it's paper thin everywhere, like I think he I think
- 11:17Speaker 5: you can Jessica pick just about any position, and especially
- 11:22Speaker 5: like on the D line. It that's an option, like
- 11:25Speaker 5: you got to hit that early. And you know, linebacker
- 11:28Speaker 5: is the only spot that kind of feels like whether
- 11:29Speaker 5: there's a little bit of depth, But I think anywhere
- 11:31Speaker 5: else you can make a pick. So yeah, I would
- 11:34Speaker 5: go there. I'd like to come back at offensive forty
- 11:36Speaker 5: two and then maybe my next tho even on defense
- 11:39Speaker 5: after that, if all things are equal, I just really
- 11:42Speaker 5: think you got to build out that side, and you
- 11:43Speaker 5: focused on offense in pre agency, so it's, uh, it's
- 11:47Speaker 5: it's time to get some guys on the other side
- 11:49Speaker 5: as well.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Nick obligatory Chris question here, any updates on contract talks.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Nothing new since the last time. I mean they're still
- 12:03Speaker 5: kind of talking about it. They're trying to figure it
- 12:05Speaker 5: out like that. There's some posture right now over the
- 12:08Speaker 5: average annial value, which you know that doesn't surprise you,
- 12:11Speaker 5: but I think I think that's probably pretty cut and dry,
- 12:15Speaker 5: like at a certain point, like you're gonna have to
- 12:17Speaker 5: get to that number, like thirty three million is probably
- 12:19Speaker 5: probably the number. I think the issue is going to
- 12:22Speaker 5: be the guarantee structure, and I think that's where the
- 12:26Speaker 5: real battle is going to happen on this one, because
- 12:29Speaker 5: like Chris had the concussions, Like it's just a realistic thing,
- 12:31Speaker 5: Like there's a realistic risk here, and I think I
- 12:34Speaker 5: just have to, you know, come into some type of
- 12:36Speaker 5: structure where those guarantees become earned. You know, what what percentage, snap,
- 12:40Speaker 5: how many games whatever it is. Like I think you know,
- 12:43Speaker 5: a very common sense way to do it would be, hey,
- 12:46Speaker 5: like you play eighty five percent of the snaps and
- 12:49Speaker 5: twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven becomes guaranteed if
- 12:52Speaker 5: you're a you know, seventy percent this percentage, like, I
- 12:55Speaker 5: think it's gonna be some type of complicated structure like
- 12:57Speaker 5: that where where kind of gets figured out that you know,
- 13:00Speaker 5: I'll say this, like I do think Pooka having his
- 13:03Speaker 5: outfield stuff probably slowed down that negotiation, which is probably
- 13:07Speaker 5: a good free thing for the Saints. But like Drake
- 13:09Speaker 5: Lendon's coming to and the more guys that that sign,
- 13:12Speaker 5: like the higher up, that feeling keeps going and that
- 13:16Speaker 5: just is going to benefit you know, Christians negotiating position.
- 13:19Speaker 5: So I do the Saints, like I'd probably be trying
- 13:21Speaker 5: to get this done before a bunch of these things
- 13:23Speaker 5: that you can try to you know, be below thirty.
- 13:25Speaker 5: It's not gonna end up there, Like nobody's agreeing to
- 13:28Speaker 5: sub thirty. Drew Rosenos represents Garrett Wilson. Garrett Wilson has
- 13:32Speaker 5: you know, his numbers. Chris is a better player than that,
- 13:35Speaker 5: Like he's not going below that level, like you know
- 13:38Speaker 5: what the poor is. So I think you just got
- 13:40Speaker 5: to slot in there and just find a guarantee structure
- 13:42Speaker 5: that makes sense.
- 13:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I think from the fans point of view, the
- 13:46Speaker 6: relationship between Chris Olave and the Saints is really really good.
- 13:49Speaker 6: There's nothing to point like there's any negative. Is there
- 13:53Speaker 6: any chance that you see this thing not getting ugly
- 13:56Speaker 6: or nasty, but like somebody digging their heels in and
- 14:00Speaker 6: there being some sort of like holdout situation or just
- 14:02Speaker 6: some lengthy negotiations.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it could, like it could. It can
- 14:09Speaker 5: always get to like a holdout spot, Like a lot
- 14:11Speaker 5: of these contracts over time like have had to get
- 14:14Speaker 5: there too, like when Mike Thomas got his, Alvin got his,
- 14:16Speaker 5: Like there's been a lot of times where guys have
- 14:18Speaker 5: had to stay away at the start a camp or
- 14:21Speaker 5: you know, lead their in opas or whatever. Micky is
- 14:24Speaker 5: a tough negotiator man, Like he digs in on a
- 14:26Speaker 5: spot and sometimes you gotta you gotta really do well
- 14:28Speaker 5: in the push to get there. You know, if that happened,
- 14:31Speaker 5: I think he gets fealed pretty quick. But you know,
- 14:33Speaker 5: I'll say this about Chris, like I think he's a
- 14:35Speaker 5: he's an extremely logical person. I think he's extremely realistic
- 14:39Speaker 5: about his health situation and understands that there's there's like
- 14:43Speaker 5: a fairness to them having concerns about where he's at.
- 14:48Speaker 5: So I don't think he would take any of that personally.
- 14:51Speaker 5: I don't think he'd be illogical about any of that.
- 14:54Speaker 5: You know, Rosenhols is going to go to battle over
- 14:57Speaker 5: it like that. That's that's his job, that's what he does.
- 14:59Speaker 5: But I don't think there would be any like residual
- 15:02Speaker 5: like effects on Chris or getting like super ugly there
- 15:05Speaker 5: or anything like that. He's a he's a he's a
- 15:09Speaker 5: pretty realistic person, you know. And I've talked to him
- 15:12Speaker 5: about this this situation recently, Like, I don't think there's
- 15:15Speaker 5: any any feelings or anything like that about and Tat
- 15:19Speaker 5: into anything. Like, I think he understands where it's at,
- 15:21Speaker 5: and I think, you know, I think ultimately he feels
- 15:23Speaker 5: confident that'll that will probably get done at some point.
- 15:26Speaker 5: I think he really wants it to get done at
- 15:27Speaker 5: some point. I think he's excited about being here. I
- 15:29Speaker 5: know he's excited about Tyler, and you know, I think
- 15:33Speaker 5: he this is where he wants to play. So yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 5: I don't I don't think it would get bad, but
- 15:37Speaker 5: you never know, like sometimes these things do. But I
- 15:40Speaker 5: do believe that there had to be like a stance,
- 15:42Speaker 5: like you know, the money comes and you got ninety
- 15:46Speaker 5: million in the bank, like whatever, like whatever the guaranteed
- 15:48Speaker 5: number ends up being. I think I think any any

- 31:05Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 31:25Speaker 4: My good.
- 31:34Speaker 6: All right, welcome back here to Off the Bench nine
- 31:38Speaker 6: thirty seven on a Tuesday morning. Good energy today, by
- 31:42Speaker 6: the way, Tuesday in it It's day Tuesday we've given away.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Let's see we'd get away Rodeo take us. Today we
- 31:50Speaker 6: had a little Master's trivia. Nick Underhill drop some Saints
- 31:54Speaker 6: knowledge on us. You know, we've talked a lot about
- 31:59Speaker 6: the Saints their draft. We've heard Nick talk a lot
- 32:02Speaker 6: about it. Well, we haven't really heard that's from Taylor
- 32:07Speaker 6: and elandra on who y'all think the Saints should draft.
- 32:11Speaker 6: Do y'all have any thoughts in any opinions on it?
- 32:13Speaker 4: Mon's month's kind of been the same. I think your
- 32:16Speaker 4: biggest need, I know everyone else talked about depth.
- 32:19Speaker 9: I think your biggest need as a starter is the
- 32:22Speaker 9: cornerback position. I would take man toward Delanne same. I
- 32:25Speaker 9: don't think Cooley mcintree is a one. I think he's
- 32:28Speaker 9: a starter. I don't think he's a one. Quincy Riley
- 32:31Speaker 9: maybe be a one, sure, but not right now. Like
- 32:34Speaker 9: you don't have a number one corner on this team.
- 32:39Speaker 6: What was so Nick was saying he would choose Reuben
- 32:41Speaker 6: Bain over the three they gave, and he gave him
- 32:44Speaker 6: the option of Montsouri. He said, he doesn't really the
- 32:47Speaker 6: lockdown corner doesn't really fit the scheme I believe, is
- 32:50Speaker 6: what he said. Of Brandon Staley's defense of how they
- 32:52Speaker 6: like to play like safety down kind of approach, which
- 32:58Speaker 6: I didn't really understand, but I know that Ruben Baines
- 33:00Speaker 6: also thought of as like a top five talent.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Which I did, and and Nick brought up a good point.
- 33:05Speaker 9: So you have you have Granderson, you have Chase Young
- 33:09Speaker 9: and he said, you can't really name the third guy.
- 33:11Speaker 9: I can't name you a second guy that I feel
- 33:13Speaker 9: confident that I know for sure as they starter corner
- 33:16Speaker 9: and you gotta have to. I just think it's a
- 33:18Speaker 9: I think it's a bigger immediate need.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Jake, you're good. We need to call Central Plumbing or anything.
- 33:27Speaker 2: We good that's well played. I know you also know
- 33:35Speaker 2: my stance on that. It's grass. What was it?
- 33:38Speaker 4: What was it? He said, who would you draft if
- 33:41Speaker 4: you were the Saints in realm one? Because we were.
- 33:44Speaker 6: We've heard us talk about, We've heard the people that
- 33:46Speaker 6: we hadn't really heard from Tyte and Elandra, so they
- 33:50Speaker 6: were both taking monsore.
- 33:53Speaker 8: I just agree with Taylor, and like with I think
- 33:55Speaker 8: Jake said it too. I do think that that's your
- 33:57Speaker 8: biggest need that you have right now. Like I would
- 34:00Speaker 8: be mad if we drafted an edge though, because you
- 34:02Speaker 8: also need that.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Like I said, any of the three players, right, I mean,
- 34:09Speaker 2: be okay with that?
- 34:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I just I just hear a lot of people say, oh,
- 34:12Speaker 9: you don't have any depth of this position. I don't
- 34:14Speaker 9: know if you have starters at corner. I really don't,
- 34:17Speaker 9: not certain.
- 34:17Speaker 8: Like I would love a good wide receiver too, Like
- 34:20Speaker 8: I would love that might be like one A, one
- 34:23Speaker 8: B for me a corner and receiver.
- 34:25Speaker 7: Yeah, but I feel like a receiver.
- 34:28Speaker 8: I think you have enough to get by right now,
- 34:30Speaker 8: and you could also like, yeah, do.
- 34:33Speaker 2: You hang hold on? I want to ask Landra a
- 34:35Speaker 2: follow up here, do you think an eight that'd be
- 34:38Speaker 2: too high? But at forty two would be perfect? Because
- 34:39Speaker 2: that's kind of where I'm at.
- 34:40Speaker 8: You might be able to get somebody pretty good at
- 34:43Speaker 8: forty two. Also, like I don't know what they're thinking
- 34:46Speaker 8: about concepts gown from A and M, but if he falls, he.
- 34:50Speaker 7: Might be a good one.
- 34:51Speaker 8: I don't know what other teams need right now, so
- 34:55Speaker 8: I don't know like where somebody's gonna get something else,
- 34:57Speaker 8: But I don't I think you could still get something
- 35:01Speaker 8: valuable at forty two. I just think that the corner
- 35:04Speaker 8: is something that you need more than receiver because you
- 35:08Speaker 8: can get by with what you have.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Have you looked up the the stats of what Brandon
- 35:20Speaker 6: Staley likes to Like, what kind of defensive coach is he?
- 35:23Speaker 6: I would like to see the breakdown as of Manda Man,
- 35:27Speaker 6: how long, how much they play Manda Man. That will
- 35:29Speaker 6: kind of tell you a little bit. I just pulled
- 35:31Speaker 6: up Ultimate PFF real quick, like, that'll show you the
- 35:36Speaker 6: importance a little bit of A defensive coach is going
- 35:41Speaker 6: to call the best defense for his personnel, but he's
- 35:44Speaker 6: also going to call the defense that fits his personality
- 35:47Speaker 6: and what he wants to do. So if you're playing
- 35:50Speaker 6: a high percentage of Manda Man, yeah I could. I
- 35:53Speaker 6: could see the reach up to eight with a corner,
- 35:56Speaker 6: right if you're not, if you're more of a Cover
- 35:59Speaker 6: three team, Cover two team. Now, of course, having a
- 36:01Speaker 6: better corner to play those positions is great to play zone,
- 36:06Speaker 6: but if you're not a heavy man team, I think
- 36:08Speaker 6: it's still a hard position to draft in the top ten.
- 36:11Speaker 6: Like if it's a single digit draft pick, I think
- 36:14Speaker 6: it's still hard to go for a corner if you're
- 36:16Speaker 6: not a heavy man demand team. So I'd like to
- 36:19Speaker 6: see those stats once we get it.
- 36:21Speaker 7: That's fair.
- 36:21Speaker 6: But and I get it. A good corner is gonna
- 36:24Speaker 6: play zone better than a bad corner. I got it.
- 36:27Speaker 6: I understand that. But as far as I got a
- 36:29Speaker 6: single digit draft, pick.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Uh, coverages, cover three, one hundred and ninety plays quarters
- 36:34Speaker 2: ninety seven, Cover three, seem ninety three, Cover one eighty two,
- 36:38Speaker 2: Cover six sixty two, Cover two thirty, cover zero eighteen,
- 36:43Speaker 2: and you got some prevent you got some cover two man,
- 36:45Speaker 2: little cover three cloud mix in there.
- 36:47Speaker 6: But yeah, so I guess, I mean, I'm doing some
- 36:50Speaker 6: rough math in my head. It's probably gonna be about
- 36:51Speaker 6: twenty percent, twenty to twenty five percent something like that.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well, between the cover one twelve percent and then
- 37:00Speaker 2: you got cover two man at a little over almost.
- 37:03Speaker 6: Two percent, two man is not necessarily the same situation.
- 37:07Speaker 6: But I'm thinking the more no help deep type man
- 37:11Speaker 6: to man Cover two man is a different technique. I'm
- 37:14Speaker 6: thinking one. And I mean you could you could throw
- 37:16Speaker 6: zero in there as well. Again, that would fit a
- 37:19Speaker 6: personality of a defensive coordinator.
- 37:23Speaker 4: So I don't know. I mean, it seems pretty even
- 37:26Speaker 4: coverage certainly there.
- 37:28Speaker 6: I think I think I heard three different zone defenses
- 37:31Speaker 6: they play before man to man herd quarters. Yeah, now
- 37:37Speaker 6: I get it, Like, if you don't have the guys,
- 37:39Speaker 6: and that might be what some of y'all are thinking
- 37:41Speaker 6: that are listening. If you don't have the guys to
- 37:42Speaker 6: play man, you don't play man. And I would agree
- 37:45Speaker 6: with that. But still the coach that coordinates the defense
- 37:49Speaker 6: is always going to call the plays that fit his personality, right,
- 37:54Speaker 6: even if sometimes you don't have the dudes.
- 37:56Speaker 2: More in college than in the NFL, I don't Maybe
- 37:59Speaker 2: you just agree with that. I feel like college like
- 38:01Speaker 2: you're going to do what I say. We're NFL. Sometimes
- 38:04Speaker 2: if you get the right coordinator, he's like, hey, I've
- 38:07Speaker 2: got this guy and that guy. I've always been this
- 38:10Speaker 2: and I'm still gonna do this, but maybe I do
- 38:12Speaker 2: a little bit more of that. Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 6: No, I'm not saying they don't adapt a little bit.
- 38:15Speaker 6: But it's not your job to It's not the defensive
- 38:20Speaker 6: coordinator's job to get the personnel. He's not a personnel guy, right,
- 38:24Speaker 6: he calls his defense at somebody else's job to put
- 38:26Speaker 6: the right personnel around him to.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Play his defense.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Now he's gonna adapt a little bit but it's not
- 38:31Speaker 6: gonna skew the numbers so much like it's not going
- 38:33Speaker 6: to skew the numbers by twenty or thirty percent. It
- 38:36Speaker 6: might skew him by five, seven, eight percent something like that.
- 38:41Speaker 4: On what you call.
- 38:42Speaker 6: But a coach that likes the blitz, he's gonna blitz
- 38:46Speaker 6: even if he doesn't have the personnel to do it,
- 38:48Speaker 6: even if he doesn't have the corners to do it.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Even he's gonna blitz because he thinks it creates confusion.
- 38:53Speaker 2: But I mean, I'd have to go back and look
- 38:55Speaker 2: at Staley's teams in LA as well, Like did he
- 38:58Speaker 2: play cover three because he didn't feel like he had
- 39:00Speaker 2: the guys to play?
- 39:00Speaker 6: I think one I think as you do your mock
- 39:02Speaker 6: drafts and now being on the NFL radio stuff like
- 39:06Speaker 6: that's a really big thing to look at, is what
- 39:09Speaker 6: kind of style if you're if you are kind of
- 39:11Speaker 6: saying that you could draft a corner because if you
- 39:13Speaker 6: play z own, you don't there's no reason a drafted corner.
- 39:16Speaker 2: A Yeah, I might go back and look at the
- 39:22Speaker 2: the years that he was in LA, because you know,
- 39:25Speaker 2: maybe that tells a different story.
- 39:31Speaker 7: If Kellen I trust Kellen, If.
- 39:34Speaker 6: Kellen has to say that he does, and that would
- 39:39Speaker 6: be like, hey, but you look at the history.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I did the research.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Okay.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Cover one was the lead coverage when he was in
- 39:47Speaker 2: la oh Okay, so he felt like he had more
- 39:51Speaker 2: Jamies than Joe's because he didn't want Now Cover two
- 39:55Speaker 2: was still number two to your point, like that's what
- 39:57Speaker 2: his lead was in New Orleans. So maybe for him,
- 40:01Speaker 2: he's like, I gotta play Cover three because I don't
- 40:04Speaker 2: have the personnel right now. I don't trust koole A McKinstry.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I don't trust these guys to play. Cover one is
- 40:10Speaker 2: my lead cover, so.
- 40:10Speaker 6: Its lead coverage as they take twenty have good corners.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, that defense was really good. Yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 2: when he was there, I'm gonna look up exactly what
- 40:20Speaker 2: the twenty twin one?
- 40:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean, there you go.
- 40:23Speaker 6: If it's one was their lead coverage as the head coach,
- 40:26Speaker 6: right he was, Yeah, as the head coach for the Chargers. Uh,
- 40:30Speaker 6: Cover one is Manda man with one safety high. That's
- 40:34Speaker 6: why they call it Cover one one one safety high.
- 40:37Speaker 6: That's why I call it single hibble. That's why I
- 40:38Speaker 6: cut out a shingle high. That's why quarterback if he's
- 40:41Speaker 6: thrown a go route, he usually looks. If he's thrown
- 40:44Speaker 6: at to the left, he usually looks right. When he's
- 40:47Speaker 6: dropping back. Yeah, to push that safety over there. If
- 40:50Speaker 6: he wants to throw a gob all right, he looks
- 40:52Speaker 6: to the left, would you know, my God? And then
- 40:56Speaker 6: when you get real savvy and his safety is real savvy,
- 40:59Speaker 6: you look left and throw left.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Never sees it coming.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Got him Chris Harris Junior, who was a really good
- 41:10Speaker 2: nickel in the league for a very long time. Ye,
- 41:13Speaker 2: Sonny Samuel Jr. Was really good that year. Derwin James
- 41:16Speaker 2: obviously being on that team.
- 41:18Speaker 4: So so there you go, monsieur. Final answer, I'll.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Take any of the three. I will take any of
- 41:25Speaker 2: the three players that we gave Nick Underhill. I think
- 41:29Speaker 2: they all three help you. Now, safety is not your
- 41:30Speaker 2: biggest need, but cave downs. He might be the like
- 41:34Speaker 2: the guy, the gold jacket guy in this draft, Like
- 41:39Speaker 2: he's that safe as a pick. I think safety, I know,
- 41:43Speaker 2: look at safety. So you're not gonna go number one overall,
- 41:46Speaker 2: but he might be the safest pick in this draft
- 41:48Speaker 2: because he's going to be impactful from day one. So
- 41:52Speaker 2: turn a good spot. They're in a good spot at eight,
- 41:54Speaker 2: and we'll see what Mickey and the staff do if
- 41:57Speaker 2: they see somebody at six that they have to have
- 42:00Speaker 2: after they move up. Nope, no, we say no.
- 42:04Speaker 4: Please, don't they move up?
