- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We are back once again here on Unscripted, and this
- 0:23Speaker 1: is a great episode coming up here, folks. You're gonna
- 0:25Speaker 1: love this, Jack Hughes, Jacques how a game of pull
- 0:29Speaker 1: my Finger perhaps went awrise Jacques.
- 0:32Speaker 2: That's a good one, good start.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is all out. This purts me, sen the fan sixty.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Why the smashing Machine tanked but the running Man keeps
- 0:40Speaker 1: running on with this reboot plus special guests and why
- 0:43Speaker 1: Leaf's nation right now? Awry over what things have happened?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Not good right now for the Chief JD. How are
- 0:50Speaker 1: we doing right now? I'm coming back from Columbus, which
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with I've heard good things about Columbus,
- 0:54Speaker 1: but I think you have to be there for a
- 0:55Speaker 1: college football game Ohio State in September. I was there
- 0:58Speaker 1: in November, so really didn't get to explore the city.
- 1:00Speaker 1: But I can tell you is this. I got the
- 1:02Speaker 1: first Blue Jackets game off the list, got to see
- 1:04Speaker 1: the cannon louder than I expected, and joy Shelley wore
- 1:08Speaker 1: me because it's loud, like get ready, He's like okay,
- 1:10Speaker 1: And I asked the guy. I go, what's in that sucker? Like,
- 1:12Speaker 1: let's talk gunpowder. He goes, there's a firework inside when
- 1:14Speaker 1: they light the cannon. But between us, I'm like, yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 1: he goes, there's also some noise being pumped in. I
- 1:20Speaker 1: guess see, that's what I'm talking about. I go, this,
- 1:21Speaker 1: this cannon could not possibly be that loud, as there's
- 1:24Speaker 1: also some reaver about the acoustics. But Thomas Siku was
- 1:26Speaker 1: telling me he loved playing in columbuss It's a great
- 1:28Speaker 1: rink as far as a fan base. Twenty five years shady,
- 1:31Speaker 1: twenty five years in the hockey team. One playoff round,
- 1:34Speaker 1: like that's awful. But it's a good fan base and
- 1:36Speaker 1: it was a good time overall. Your thoughts on Columbus h.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Great fan base. Hated playing there because I always had
- 1:41Speaker 3: a bad game. It was always a tough building wherever
- 1:45Speaker 3: I went in Columbus.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 1:47Speaker 3: It just just one of those buildings just didn't do
- 1:49Speaker 3: it for me. Great bar with darts there called Charbar
- 1:54Speaker 3: was one of the iconic spots. It was next to
- 1:56Speaker 3: the Marriott Hotel. When I was last year, when I
- 2:00Speaker 3: was doing radio with the Sharks, I went to go
- 2:03Speaker 3: back and go have a beer there, just to you know, rekindle.
- 2:08Speaker 3: The old flame was closed down for renovations because a
- 2:11Speaker 3: car had driven through it. Wow, some drunkard just pulled
- 2:17Speaker 3: an absolute hard left of Louisville slugger right into the
- 2:21Speaker 3: front window. No one has heard. Something was fine and
- 2:23Speaker 3: the guy went to prison. So all great, But I digress. Honestly,
- 2:27Speaker 3: you should have texted me. There's some great restaurants in
- 2:29Speaker 3: that city, some really cool spots there, some cool markets.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I really like Columbus as a hockey town. So all
- 2:35Speaker 3: the Columbus Blue Jackets fans that listen to this, like,
- 2:37Speaker 3: I love that area and that yeah, that that cannon
- 2:41Speaker 3: gets everybody, everybody.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I mean a story for those who may not know.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It is the Blue Jackets which were made during the
- 2:47Speaker 1: Civil War for the Union Army. So it's a nonch
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Civil War history of Columbus, Ohio. But you're not
- 2:52Speaker 1: ready for it that. I don't know how people sit
- 2:54Speaker 1: in that area, Jenny. It's a loud jump every.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Time there's such a nerd just going right to hiss
- 2:59Speaker 3: and everybody just tuned off. Bring him back, tits an ass.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk more Antietam another time. Let's get back
- 3:06Speaker 1: to the fun stuff. It feels like a new era
- 3:09Speaker 1: of hockey right now. Is that? Is that not presumptuous
- 3:12Speaker 1: to say with Maclin, Celebrady and Connor Bader, with these
- 3:14Speaker 1: guys are doing back and forth. Last night was an
- 3:16Speaker 1: absolute show. We keep talking about the talent of the
- 3:19Speaker 1: game is as good it's ever been. But I mean listen,
- 3:21Speaker 1: last night, I mean celebrating is on pace for one
- 3:23Speaker 1: hundred and twenty one points. Let that marinate for a second.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But Dard with a hat trick could be like a
- 3:27Speaker 1: sixty goal scorer. This is awesome theater watching these two
- 3:30Speaker 1: guys go back and forth. It's been amazing.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, the lead.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You know, it's it's bittersweet because you know, this past
- 3:36Speaker 3: week you're starting to see the ov jersey swaps. You know,
- 3:40Speaker 3: you hear Malkins kind of a couple of years left.
- 3:43Speaker 3: You're talking about ase Copatars retiring at the end of
- 3:46Speaker 3: the year. So you're losing these guys that have been
- 3:48Speaker 3: the face of the league for twenty plus years. And
- 3:52Speaker 3: it's sad because you don't want to see those guys go.
- 3:54Speaker 3: You know, it's guys that I played against and they
- 3:56Speaker 3: played through like three four generations. So whenever you have
- 4:00Speaker 3: these legends of the game leave, it's really bitter because
- 4:02Speaker 3: you're like, where's the league gonna go? Is it gonna
- 4:04Speaker 3: be in good hands? You know, I know we got
- 4:06Speaker 3: McKinnon and McDavid, but it's like, is it gonna be
- 4:08Speaker 3: only these guys? Is they're gonna be stars that emerge?
- 4:11Speaker 3: And we're seeing that live. We're seeing how the torch
- 4:14Speaker 3: has passed. Like these kids, man, they're the kids are
- 4:17Speaker 3: all right, uh, you know, not to be sappy and nostalgic,
- 4:21Speaker 3: but they're they're. The league's in really good hands with
- 4:24Speaker 3: these two teams that you know, we all thought we're
- 4:26Speaker 3: gonna be way worse than that they have been this year.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And takes one player to turn around a franchise. And
- 4:31Speaker 3: you're seeing that with the Sharks and the the Blackhawks.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I mean, the Blackhawks are just on the edge of
- 4:35Speaker 3: the playoffs. Uh they might be in. I mean, it's
- 4:39Speaker 3: it's incredible what he's done. I I honestly have to
- 4:44Speaker 3: I knew Maclin Celebrany would be this good. I didn't
- 4:47Speaker 3: think Connor Bdard. I was kind of I was low
- 4:49Speaker 3: on him to start the season. I think we all
- 4:51Speaker 3: were after the past two years. But he's found something
- 4:55Speaker 3: this year and and kind of found another gear and
- 4:57Speaker 3: he's got a little piss and vinegar to him, which
- 4:58Speaker 3: I like.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And he wants to puck more.
- 5:00Speaker 3: He wants to be the guy and and uh yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 3: it's it's fun to watch. You know, hockey's in a
- 5:05Speaker 3: good place with these young kids, So you know, it's
- 5:08Speaker 3: more it's more of you know, what's their ceiling. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 3: I think it's time will tell. But to see the
- 5:14Speaker 3: both these guys back in the playoffs, both both these franchises,
- 5:17Speaker 3: you know more that because when you look at both
- 5:19Speaker 3: these teams, like these are two great franchises with great
- 5:22Speaker 3: fan bases when you're winning, and they still stick around
- 5:25Speaker 3: when you're losing. But the way and the level they
- 5:27Speaker 3: were losing was just awful, So fans are obviously not
- 5:30Speaker 3: going to come. And you used to have a ship product.
- 5:32Speaker 3: So now that they're they're kind of back and it's exciting.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Those buildings are rocking, man, and I'm just excited to
- 5:39Speaker 3: see it. And I can't wait to watch kind of
- 5:41Speaker 3: what they do the rest of the year.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I mean to see.
- 5:44Speaker 3: McKinnon Macklin, McDavid and Bedard in the top four and
- 5:48Speaker 3: scoring in the league.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Is is something really cool to see.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Blackhawks right now in the first wildcard spot. You can
- 5:54Speaker 1: believe it. Ten five and four twenty four points. Your
- 5:56Speaker 1: Shark's nine to eighty three twenty one points. Again, no
- 5:59Speaker 1: one's expecting greatness, but better than expected, and with those
- 6:02Speaker 1: two stars leading the way, it's been good news, not
- 6:04Speaker 1: going to for everybody. How about the Toronto may be leiefs.
- 6:06Speaker 1: They had a five game losing streak going into last night.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They had to have a press conference in middle of
- 6:10Speaker 1: November and never had a good sign When Bradchue livinggains
- 6:12Speaker 1: to get there to hold court in Toronto. In the
- 6:14Speaker 1: press conference, he planned to support for Chief Craig Ruby
- 6:16Speaker 1: as head coach, but describing his team's play, trure Living said,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I think there's been too much Vanilla also put it
- 6:21Speaker 1: on himself. Austin Matthews still had a few more games.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Matthew and ies missed a three two OT win last night.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Willie nieland are getting it done. Chris Tanne remains out.
- 6:29Speaker 1: They did claim Troy stature off of waivers. There is that,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but this is a Leaf's team right now, I was
- 6:33Speaker 1: looking at the numbers, JD. That's five game losing streak.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Their penalty kill is at sixty seven percent. They're averaging
- 6:39Speaker 1: allowing four point four goals per game. So I know
- 6:41Speaker 1: still Arts has been out, but defensively it's been a
- 6:44Speaker 1: disaster right now.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, they win.
- 6:47Speaker 3: They win the other night with a beautiful overtime game
- 6:50Speaker 3: winner by slick Willy Nielander. That's one of the nicer
- 6:53Speaker 3: goals I've seen all season. That was absolutely filthy, sexy.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I was half chopped earlier in the game, which sucked.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I was half chobbed.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Geez when he did it moved George Costanza. Not that
- 7:07Speaker 3: there's anything wrong with that, but it moved.
- 7:11Speaker 4: No.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Yeah, listen, they're I think that's a warning shot to
- 7:15Speaker 3: the guys, and specifically, you know, top to bottom their roster.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think he you know, a GM.
- 7:22Speaker 3: When a GM comes out, it makes kind of these
- 7:24Speaker 3: these broad comments. These they're a little vague, but you
- 7:27Speaker 3: know it's kind of directed in one direction.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Defensively, they weren't.
- 7:30Speaker 3: They haven't been hard enough, and you know, their identity
- 7:33Speaker 3: has kind of been lost a little bit, and there's
- 7:34Speaker 3: no consistency. I think that's a little a warning shot
- 7:37Speaker 3: across the bow, like you better fucking figure it out,
- 7:39Speaker 3: or I'm gonna figure it out for you guys, and
- 7:42Speaker 3: bringing people that can play. So they had a good response.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It's a good it's a good win they had last game.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And but I you know, I think we keep saying
- 7:51Speaker 3: with them, like we just got to get them to
- 7:53Speaker 3: the playoffs. They have a team built for the playoffs.
- 7:55Speaker 3: But when everybody's hurt like this, this is you're getting
- 7:57Speaker 3: into the danger zone at this part of the season.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Twenty games in, you're what a quarter of the way
- 8:02Speaker 3: there after you get halfway through the season and you're
- 8:06Speaker 3: kind of where they're sitting, still mulling around five hundred
- 8:09Speaker 3: just below. That's scary because you don't want to go
- 8:13Speaker 3: into the Olympic break, you know, chasing the playoffs, because
- 8:18Speaker 3: once you come out of Olympic break, who knows what's
- 8:19Speaker 3: going to happen. Who knows where you're going to be
- 8:22Speaker 3: If guys are going to get injured at the Olympics.
- 8:24Speaker 3: They have some guys that are top guys that will
- 8:26Speaker 3: be playing in the Olympics. So it's like you got
- 8:29Speaker 3: to get going now, and I just think Craig Berube,
- 8:35Speaker 3: they're playing his style, trying to maybe this is we're
- 8:40Speaker 3: going to see something like Florida did, where you retool
- 8:43Speaker 3: your whole team kind of mid season and you bring
- 8:46Speaker 3: in people and you just kind of find a way
- 8:48Speaker 3: to fix this. So I think Tree Living's probably definitely
- 8:52Speaker 3: pounding the phone lines right now and looking for potentially
- 8:56Speaker 3: some people to alleviate it, because I don't know what
- 8:58Speaker 3: they have in the system that's really going to come
- 9:00Speaker 3: up and make waves here.
- 9:03Speaker 1: In the Leafs right now. Points in twenty games, only
- 9:05Speaker 1: two points up on the Buffalo Sabers for the worst
- 9:07Speaker 1: record in the Eastern Conference.
- 9:09Speaker 2: But the East it's pretty there's parody.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So it's like two card spot is twenty two points,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you're two points in the wild card spot.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah you're okay.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not as bad as it sounds. It really
- 9:19Speaker 1: is one's perspective. But as you said, don't be chasing
- 9:22Speaker 1: it either. Jonathan Quick might be the greatest American goaltender
- 9:24Speaker 1: in hockey history. I'm watching the highlights Monday, of course,
- 9:28Speaker 1: huge Eagles winning the Lions. They flip over to ESPN
- 9:30Speaker 1: and somebody just watch a little hockey alight. It's the
- 9:31Speaker 1: one hawk out that they have as the Red Wings,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and they pick it up nine seconds left the game.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I go, oh, this has been the highlight.
- 9:36Speaker 2: What happened to win?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Eagles win, beat the Lions. Now eight and two big
- 9:40Speaker 1: showdown against the Cowboys come up.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I have a J Brown and Saguon Barkley in fantasy.
- 9:45Speaker 3: They have killed me. They've killed me, maybe.
- 9:49Speaker 1: The two worst guys to have picked this season. The
- 9:50Speaker 1: Eagles sputtering offense, but an incredible defensive effort. We should
- 9:53Speaker 1: have run down. Anyways, I watch the I see Mason Appleton.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I go, why are they showing the last you know,
- 9:57Speaker 1: seven seconds of a hockey game. Appleton shoots the pucket
- 10:00Speaker 1: after an empty net after the file, Horn says, and
- 10:02Speaker 1: then Jonathan Quick like he's Ron Hextall, it's out there,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and starts brawling everybody. I got. I was back to
- 10:07Speaker 1: our friend Thomas Sick. He goes. I love it on
- 10:08Speaker 1: all ends because I love Appleton being like, whatever, if
- 10:11Speaker 1: I have a shot empty that I'm gonna take it.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm not waiting for the clocktic down. I take a shot.
- 10:14Speaker 1: The Horn goes because I love it from Quick's perspective,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's mine net. You don't show me up, you don't
- 10:18Speaker 1: script the whole like Gause all around. It was just
- 10:20Speaker 1: fun to see. Felt like a throwback while wearing the
- 10:23Speaker 1: throwback uniforms. JAD a goalie out there thrown punches.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you got to protect the net, and that's kind
- 10:29Speaker 3: of just like an unwritten rule. I know, Appleton, I
- 10:33Speaker 3: like it that listen, get a goal anyway you can
- 10:36Speaker 3: now I find an opportunity. But I don't love the
- 10:40Speaker 3: response from like the Panarens and the other guys that
- 10:42Speaker 3: just kind of skated away like it's nothing, and Quick's
- 10:44Speaker 3: got to come off the bench to kind of incite
- 10:46Speaker 3: a little bit of anarchy. So I don't love it
- 10:50Speaker 3: from that perspective. But Jonathan quick Man, he's he's got
- 10:53Speaker 3: so much fire him. That's a winner right there when
- 10:55Speaker 3: you see it. And the rest of those guys just,
- 10:58Speaker 3: you know, have been so helter skelter all season and
- 11:01Speaker 3: haven't shown much fight, especially at home. So I like
- 11:06Speaker 3: Quickie coming off the bench, and it's funny that it
- 11:09Speaker 3: he kind of dragged those guys in the fight into
- 11:11Speaker 3: the fight a little late in the game. But I
- 11:14Speaker 3: do believe that it is an unwritten rule. You do
- 11:16Speaker 3: not shoot after the whistle, whether it's like a half
- 11:19Speaker 3: second or not. And sometimes it's like sometimes mistakes happened.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But it is also masl Appleton. He's got a little
- 11:25Speaker 3: rat in them, so I think they thought that that's
- 11:28Speaker 3: something he was doing. So you know, credit fair play
- 11:32Speaker 3: to Quickie, going to get him.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff fall around. How sweet it is. We'll
- 11:36Speaker 1: get into more with our guest Connor Clifton. The Penguins
- 11:38Speaker 1: competitors just return for playing a pair of games in Stockholm, Sweden,
- 11:41Speaker 1: part of the Global Series. Penguins took three to four
- 11:43Speaker 1: points against the struggling competators. The crowdsing you love the experience. Shitty.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You're an international guy. You've played all over your talk
- 11:49Speaker 1: about your experiences in Russia. How great is it Stockholm?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Just the NHL hockey being played there?
- 11:54Speaker 3: Oh amazing. I got to do it. We played Columbus
- 11:59Speaker 3: when I was at San Jose my first year, my
- 12:02Speaker 3: second year, I think my first year, if I'm not mistaken,
- 12:05Speaker 3: might have been my second. I don't know anyway, one
- 12:09Speaker 3: of the two. But it was amazing. You know, the
- 12:11Speaker 3: plane ride there is is so much fun with the guys,
- 12:15Speaker 3: you're kind of all together. You're away from you know,
- 12:17Speaker 3: the families. It's just you and the boys. It's really
- 12:19Speaker 3: it's insular. It's like it's the team that you're that
- 12:21Speaker 3: you're gonna be battling with all season together for this nice.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Little, you know, vacation.
- 12:27Speaker 3: But it's work, so you know, you get to visit
- 12:29Speaker 3: the cities and Stockholm is beautiful. And we actually had
- 12:32Speaker 3: a funny story was the time zone change was always
- 12:36Speaker 3: a little bit funny there because you know you're going there,
- 12:39Speaker 3: you're practicing. We practiced a couple of days, and then
- 12:42Speaker 3: you play the first day, first game, so some guys
- 12:44Speaker 3: weren't completely adjusted to the time zone. So sitting in
- 12:46Speaker 3: the locker room before the first game, right after warm ups,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and we're waiting for the coach to come in to
- 12:52Speaker 3: read the lineup sheet, and I'm looking across the room
- 12:54Speaker 3: and I'm looking at I'm looking at Ken Huskins, my
- 12:56Speaker 3: deep partner, and I'm looking at him and he's got
- 12:59Speaker 3: his hand on his face and he's just sitting there
- 13:02Speaker 3: and I'm watching his eyes and I'm like, you see
- 13:04Speaker 3: visualizing right now? Like is he like getting he's in
- 13:08Speaker 3: the zone. I was like, he's in the fucking flow
- 13:09Speaker 3: state right now. If this guy's gonna have this guy's
- 13:12Speaker 3: gonna have two points. No, he was falling asleep, and
- 13:16Speaker 3: fell asleep right before the game, right before the lineup
- 13:19Speaker 3: card was read, because because because the time zone change,
- 13:23Speaker 3: so and you.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Know, everybody's like kind of clued into it now.
- 13:25Speaker 3: So we're all looking at him and we're like, husky,
- 13:29Speaker 3: you good, and he yeah, yeah good. I'm like, oh
- 13:32Speaker 3: my god, don't put the buck in his corner. Yeah,
- 13:37Speaker 3: that was my thought.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I think with that all the topic. We guys all
- 13:41Speaker 1: they're playing a two game baseball seris in Japan. I go,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and I asked people to go. Dude, it screws you up,
- 13:45Speaker 1: Like not just for the moment there. Look, maybe you
- 13:47Speaker 1: have a drenale to get you, but on the way
- 13:49Speaker 1: back it's stuff to readjust when you get back to America,
- 13:51Speaker 1: back to Canada. So it's not it's not.
- 13:53Speaker 2: An easy thing, surely is not.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I concur which International city, which, by the way, it
- 13:59Speaker 1: was your second season. Now the Titalis Confronted Sharks beat
- 14:02Speaker 1: the Blue Jackets three two NHL premiere even stock them
- 14:05Speaker 1: at twenty ten.
- 14:05Speaker 2: A hell of us really on who yaka? What I check?
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah? All right, going forward to chuck okay, is there
- 14:14Speaker 1: an international? So you'd love to see a hockey game
- 14:16Speaker 1: take place, maybe like Bonos as.
- 14:19Speaker 2: They have a rink there.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Uh nice, I gave with Argentina.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Let's go Argentina.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, with the Germans, all the Germans hiding out in Argentina,
- 14:30Speaker 3: all the Germans in Argentina. I'd love to see that one.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Leon dry sidle down there, have some of his family
- 14:37Speaker 3: that start checking passports. No I I you'd be interesting
- 14:43Speaker 3: to see international Australia.
- 14:46Speaker 1: That's a long time to go to. Freak.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Can't do Russia. Can't do Russia right now? Two on
- 14:50Speaker 3: the nose. I can't do that. You know Finland, you
- 14:54Speaker 3: got Finland, Stockholm, those are cool. I mean Norway would
- 14:56Speaker 3: be pretty cool. Actually, yeah, Oslo or like Iceland or
- 15:01Speaker 3: something something some kind of that's like but you know
- 15:04Speaker 3: it's more you got to get the fan bases there
- 15:05Speaker 3: and you gotta have a player.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I mean, it'd be nice.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It would have been cool if, like knowing that it
- 15:10Speaker 3: was on Copetar's last year doing one in his hometown
- 15:13Speaker 3: in his home country, Slovenia, Slovakia, y Slovenia.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Slovenia s right, all right, good, good work there.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Now, which was your pick international city? Do you want
- 15:22Speaker 1: to see a game take place?
- 15:23Speaker 2: California?
- 15:25Speaker 5: California is very international.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Paris, Paris or London? When Paris or London be pretty cool?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Two are nice?
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, London never worry about getting stabbed, but Paris would
- 15:37Speaker 3: be not bad.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Yeah that's easy again the thalistic and recently as first flights.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You know, Paris London easy five six hours. That's international cities.
- 15:46Speaker 3: But yeah, you liked like Buenos Aira's little Spain. Yeah,
- 15:49Speaker 3: I want to eat Lisbon, Portugal would be Portugal be
- 15:53Speaker 3: nice in the in the bows of Lisbon. Worst airport
- 15:59Speaker 3: customs ever, worst ever. Well, I went there with my
- 16:03Speaker 3: dad for my dad's birthday.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yes, last year.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Six hours to get through. Yeah, no bueno, no no
- 16:10Speaker 3: bueno serez.
- 16:13Speaker 1: All right, Ben, they are done that before we get
- 16:15Speaker 1: to our special guest, Connor Clifton. How about Jamie Benny's back.
- 16:18Speaker 1: And it's one thing to say he's back. When I
- 16:20Speaker 1: looked at it, what was he out with it? Collapse
- 16:21Speaker 1: lung like? What like when you hear a dud spat
- 16:24Speaker 1: collap like Jesus Man, like I would be terrified the
- 16:28Speaker 1: first time I have to take a hit. Jamie Ben
- 16:30Speaker 1: back after missing nineteen games, The Stars captain rank second
- 16:33Speaker 1: in Francis history, behind only Mike Madano in games, goals
- 16:37Speaker 1: and points. Stars had won five shop for losing to
- 16:40Speaker 1: the Islanders on Tuesday. How about the Stars that they
- 16:42Speaker 1: got their captain back, Jimmie Benn.
- 16:45Speaker 3: They got their swagger back to this team's a wagon
- 16:48Speaker 3: with Colorado. Both these teams, man, do they look good
- 16:50Speaker 3: right now? And I know they dropped the last game
- 16:53Speaker 3: to the Islanders with that scary hit by Miko rant
- 16:56Speaker 3: and on roman That.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Was curious, by the way, was that funny or what? Patrick? Right?
- 17:02Speaker 2: That guy?
- 17:03Speaker 1: You could not It wasn't sorry, it wasn't.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Romanoff.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You know, Ramanoff getting injured I think was very scary.
- 17:11Speaker 3: That's as a defenseman, that was always my nightmare, was
- 17:14Speaker 3: was that kind of play because you have to go
- 17:17Speaker 3: in and you always want to be first on the
- 17:19Speaker 3: puck and you got to take a hit to make
- 17:20Speaker 3: a play. But that's always nerve wracking when somebody comes
- 17:23Speaker 3: in and it doesn't take much. So and I think
- 17:26Speaker 3: I do think Rantnan kind of got tripped up a
- 17:29Speaker 3: little bit and then just kept his forward. Momentum was
- 17:33Speaker 3: once you see the numbers, you can't hit period.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 3: But I you know, if you look at the tape,
- 17:37Speaker 3: I think Mayfield kind of like hooks him and he
- 17:39Speaker 3: kind of looks like he's trying to get around and
- 17:41Speaker 3: he just stumbles. And maybe it was on purpose, but
- 17:45Speaker 3: I don't think it was to absolutely just hard boon
- 17:48Speaker 3: somebody on the boards. But the funny part was Patrick
- 17:52Speaker 3: Roy telling him he's not going to finish the game,
- 17:53Speaker 3: and the next game they play against each other, so
- 17:57Speaker 3: it's kind of he's a whack job like whacko why.
- 18:02Speaker 1: By the way, briefly, coach Manson as a rookie in
- 18:04Speaker 1: twenty fifteen twenty sixteen that was his final season with
- 18:07Speaker 1: Colorado said playing journey was not his style, but at
- 18:09Speaker 1: the same time that should not be part of our game.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And you mentioned Romanov appear to be a great deal
- 18:13Speaker 1: of paying able to skate off the ice under his
- 18:15Speaker 1: own power after the hit stars Coach, by the way,
- 18:18Speaker 1: defending Ranton saying believe the skate was clipped as you said,
- 18:20Speaker 1: by Mayfield, causing to raise his arms for balance right
- 18:23Speaker 1: before contact. It's almost he plays that happened. I hope
- 18:26Speaker 1: he's okay. Dangerous play for everybody, And as Jason Robertson said,
- 18:29Speaker 1: they're sticking up for their guy. We have to respect that.
- 18:31Speaker 1: It's just unfortunate that it happened.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Yeah, But getting back to Dallas and Jamie Ben, I mean,
- 18:37Speaker 3: you know, Jamie Benn has been the captain there for
- 18:39Speaker 3: as long as I can remember. You know, a guy
- 18:41Speaker 3: that's been around forever. So I think he's a huge
- 18:43Speaker 3: boost for this team. But I mean, this team's playing
- 18:45Speaker 3: so well, and I think they I was watching an
- 18:49Speaker 3: article of watching I was reading an article.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Come on, Jason, get it together.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I was reading an article that was talking about what
- 18:55Speaker 3: Glenn Goaldson's brought to this team, and they said he's
- 18:57Speaker 3: only asked them to be one percent more physical. So
- 19:00Speaker 3: you can see them a little bit. Obviously, they took
- 19:02Speaker 3: it rant and took it a step too far with
- 19:04Speaker 3: the one, but I digress. Once again, I think a
- 19:08Speaker 3: couple I think they're just a little bit more. They're
- 19:11Speaker 3: harder to play against, and they're being a little bit
- 19:14Speaker 3: more physical and mean, which I think is something they
- 19:16Speaker 3: always lacked. But yeah, they're getting a lot of scoring.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Why Johnson's turning into a premier NetFront presence man on
- 19:22Speaker 3: the power play, He's been an absolute stud. He might
- 19:25Speaker 3: have a look at fifty goals. Jason Robertson having a
- 19:28Speaker 3: resurgent year once again, and I just think this is
- 19:32Speaker 3: a team this Central Division once again is gonna be
- 19:35Speaker 3: tough to come out of. So yeah, Dallas getting Jamie
- 19:38Speaker 3: ben back can only help them.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Robertson the first start of the week, eight goals his
- 19:42Speaker 1: last four games. He said last year Stars Avalanche was
- 19:44Speaker 1: gonna be the series of the playoffs. I mean, we'll
- 19:46Speaker 1: get another great series this year. We be Western Conference
- 19:48Speaker 1: spot on these two teams if they can keep things
- 19:50Speaker 1: rolling all right, still to come here in NHL Unscripted,
- 19:53Speaker 1: they're gonna love Connor Clift. He's in a well traveled career.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Great stories why he's back from Sweden and the time
- 19:57Speaker 1: that he tussled with Jason Spetts A plus more big
- 20:00Speaker 1: Dick dan Muse's coach that's coming up next on Unscripted.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Our next guest was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in
- 20:20Speaker 1: the fifth round one hundred and thirty third overall in
- 20:22Speaker 1: the twenty thirteen NHL Draft because Curly in his eighth
- 20:25Speaker 1: NHL season, his first the penguinster playing with the Boston
- 20:28Speaker 1: Bruins and the Buffalo Sabers. It's the Jersey boy himself,
- 20:32Speaker 1: Penguins defenseman Connor Clipton. Connor, great to see him, man,
- 20:34Speaker 1: Thanks so much for the.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Time you too, guys, Thanks for having me.
- 20:37Speaker 1: You just got back with the Penguins of the NHL
- 20:40Speaker 1: International Games against the National Predators in Stockholm. You were
- 20:43Speaker 1: just telling me in taloff air it blew away your expectations.
- 20:46Speaker 1: How was it?
- 20:47Speaker 4: Honestly, it was. It was so cool. I didn't know
- 20:53Speaker 4: too much about Sweden back I did a five Nations there,
- 20:56Speaker 4: Like I don't even know how long ago. I was
- 20:59Speaker 4: in high school, so it was pretty long. I don't
- 21:01Speaker 4: even want to talk about it.
- 21:01Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:02Speaker 4: We didn't go to Stockholm. We went to like on Coping.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I remember it being just a lot of hockey. But
- 21:09Speaker 4: this time around we went a little early excuse me,
- 21:14Speaker 4: and we got to see the city and it was
- 21:16Speaker 4: it was great. The only thing I didn't like obviously,
- 21:20Speaker 4: in the winter time, the sun goes down pretty early,
- 21:22Speaker 4: so I think I got to make a trip back
- 21:24Speaker 4: in the summer where we're getting a lot more daylight.
- 21:27Speaker 1: How when you say it goes in early, like, what
- 21:28Speaker 1: are we talking early? Right now? I heard the East
- 21:29Speaker 1: coast it's like four thirty four forty five.
- 21:32Speaker 4: It was like two thirty cool.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 21:36Speaker 4: It was like there were times where like, I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 4: you're trying to get used to the time difference, right,
- 21:41Speaker 4: So we we practiced the first day we flew. We
- 21:43Speaker 4: took the Red Eye, so we flew at nine pm.
- 21:46Speaker 4: We got in it was like ten thirty. It was
- 21:47Speaker 4: like seven seven and a half hour flight. We had
- 21:50Speaker 4: gone right to the rink, but luckily they made us
- 21:53Speaker 4: some ice coffee. Was probably the best ice coffee I've
- 21:55Speaker 4: ever had.
- 21:56Speaker 3: No really, Oh yeah, big coffee guy, the huge coffee guy.
- 22:00Speaker 4: It was incredible. It was It was so incredible that
- 22:03Speaker 4: every day we get to the rink for practice and
- 22:05Speaker 4: the guys are like, oh, is there any more ice coffee?
- 22:08Speaker 4: And there wasn't anymore. It was just the first day.
- 22:11Speaker 4: But that was nice of them because it was so good.
- 22:13Speaker 4: And then we get out of the rink and you're
- 22:15Speaker 4: you're you want to decide if you want to go
- 22:16Speaker 4: see Stockholm, which was phenomenal, just a phenomenal place. Do
- 22:20Speaker 4: you want to go see it while the sun's still
- 22:21Speaker 4: out or you want to go home and nap, go
- 22:24Speaker 4: back to the hotel, nap, and then after the nap,
- 22:26Speaker 4: the sun would already have been gone, so you either
- 22:30Speaker 4: had to delay your nap if you wanted to get out.
- 22:32Speaker 4: And I did a little bit of both, right, you know,
- 22:36Speaker 4: every other day I probably napped and then you know,
- 22:39Speaker 4: but it was so cool that sorry, go ahead, I
- 22:45Speaker 4: cut you off.
- 22:47Speaker 2: No, no, you're good.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I just want to ask being there, you know, in
- 22:51Speaker 3: that city, in Stockholm and being around you know, you
- 22:54Speaker 3: got the likes of you got some Swedish teammates, Carlson,
- 22:58Speaker 3: you know, talk about his level of stardom there and
- 23:03Speaker 3: were you kind of surprised by a little bit.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean leading up to it, he was.
- 23:08Speaker 4: He was pretty excited to go back. I know, he's
- 23:10Speaker 4: Carl's about six hours from from Stockholm, so I mean,
- 23:16Speaker 4: he wasn't playing in his hometown, but I mean, I'm
- 23:18Speaker 4: sure it was pretty special for him. Obviously Racks came
- 23:20Speaker 4: on the trip too, Unfortunately he wasn't able to play.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I'm sure he was excited to do that. But yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 4: it's exactly that. I mean, I think the last that
- 23:31Speaker 4: last game day, I mean we we ended up flying
- 23:33Speaker 4: out right after, but we actually saw Peter Forsburg too,
- 23:36Speaker 4: so that was wow. Yeah, so a couple of legends obviously. Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 4: carl was, you know, he was. He was excited to
- 23:43Speaker 4: play in front of the the Swedish fans and he
- 23:45Speaker 4: was flying around out there. It's always fun to watch him.
- 23:48Speaker 1: It's just see no bigger deal in Peter Forstburg or
- 23:50Speaker 1: maybe Nick Linstrom. But as far as the bigger deal
- 23:52Speaker 1: in Sweden, Eric Carlson or Phil Forsburg, I don't know.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's tough.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean it was. I mean the whole experience.
- 24:06Speaker 4: I mean a little bit about Stockholm. I don't know
- 24:09Speaker 4: much about it, right so I'm going in. I didn't
- 24:10Speaker 4: realize there was so much water around it our hotel,
- 24:14Speaker 4: Like in my my hotel room was actually like looking
- 24:17Speaker 4: out you see, like the boats the water, and then
- 24:20Speaker 4: like old Town was like right across the way. And yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 4: I talked about the sun and went down a little early.
- 24:28Speaker 4: But like even when it did, like there was Christmas
- 24:31Speaker 4: lights around, like it was just even in the dark.
- 24:33Speaker 4: It was beautiful, So yeah, it was. It was. It
- 24:36Speaker 4: was a lot of fun, awesome.
- 24:41Speaker 3: You know, talk a little bit about now that you're
- 24:44Speaker 3: well number one, I actually want to get to the
- 24:45Speaker 3: story quickly of you're finding out that you were going
- 24:51Speaker 3: to Pittsburgh.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Talk about that a little bit.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I saw that, I think you're putting your daughter down
- 24:55Speaker 3: or something like that, and and you got the call
- 24:58Speaker 3: mid trying to be Dad of the Year.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I was putting my daughter down. I think
- 25:03Speaker 4: it was it was twelve thirty. I think her naps
- 25:07Speaker 4: are right around there at that time, so I didn't
- 25:09Speaker 4: actually see I had Kevin Adams, I missed call, end
- 25:13Speaker 4: to text. I didn't actually see that until the second
- 25:17Speaker 4: call and then it just pops up on my phone
- 25:20Speaker 4: and then like I was going in. I think we
- 25:23Speaker 4: were a little tired. I think we were about to
- 25:24Speaker 4: take a nap. Obviously couldn't nap after that, but he yeah, yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 4: I mean he was quick. It was business. Traded to Pittsburgh. Yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 4: it was obviously my first time I've been traded, so
- 25:36Speaker 4: it was. It was. It was pretty crazy. It was
- 25:39Speaker 4: it was an experience.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Well that's great. I mean, listen, ultimate things work out
- 25:43Speaker 1: for the best. Penguin's been the surprise the NHL so
- 25:45Speaker 1: far this season, Connor, I mean, I guess it's not
- 25:47Speaker 1: necessarily surprised to you guys, But what do you think
- 25:49Speaker 1: has been the key to this team getting off This
- 25:51Speaker 1: is a great start.
- 25:53Speaker 4: I think we had such a hard camp. I mean
- 25:57Speaker 4: it was I think we've all had hard camps, right,
- 26:01Speaker 4: but it was just and in the moment, you're like, wow,
- 26:03Speaker 4: that was the hardest camp I've ever been through, But
- 26:05Speaker 4: I think it actually was. It was just so fast paced.
- 26:08Speaker 4: It was practices were long. We got the two at
- 26:11Speaker 4: at our at LEMU Center, we got the two ice sheets,
- 26:14Speaker 4: so we would you know, usually you can get a
- 26:17Speaker 4: cut and get a rest in the locker room. No,
- 26:19Speaker 4: we're just walking over to the other ice sheet, right
- 26:21Speaker 4: back at it. So they were long and hard, and
- 26:23Speaker 4: I think that really helped us. We were like in
- 26:25Speaker 4: that game on I didn't even play. I was just watching. Uh,
- 26:28Speaker 4: I got scratched. I was watching upstairs at MSG and
- 26:31Speaker 4: we we had jumped the Rangers, and and I think
- 26:34Speaker 4: that happened really early, like we were just so well conditioned.
- 26:36Speaker 4: And then and then that aside, you look at you
- 26:39Speaker 4: look at the star power in our room. Obviously I've
- 26:41Speaker 4: only played against it. I've been on the other side
- 26:43Speaker 4: of it many times. But I mean, you don't have
- 26:47Speaker 4: you take a penalty against us.
- 26:49Speaker 2: And you're you're down right, you're dead.
- 26:54Speaker 4: And I feel I feel it. I felt the other
- 26:56Speaker 4: side of it for a long time, right, And it's
- 27:00Speaker 4: it's been fun to watch and and even like we
- 27:04Speaker 4: haven't even been perfect, right, Like we've we've given up
- 27:07Speaker 4: a bunch of chances, and our goalies when we do
- 27:09Speaker 4: are just they're they're playing so well right now, all
- 27:13Speaker 4: of them. And I think it's just we're kind of
- 27:17Speaker 4: like checking the boxes and we keep getting better and
- 27:19Speaker 4: we're we're giving up a little less now and and
- 27:22Speaker 4: and obviously offensively, we're we're going to score when h
- 27:26Speaker 4: and we're going to capitalize on mistakes. But uh, we've
- 27:29Speaker 4: we've really been taking the mindset just to you know,
- 27:31Speaker 4: get better each day and and we've just been so
- 27:35Speaker 4: dialed in practice and trying to get better and when
- 27:38Speaker 4: work on our systems, and it's it's it's been fun
- 27:41Speaker 4: to experience and be part of.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Before we talk about you know said and mal can
- 27:46Speaker 3: you mentioned them I know you mentioned the goalies, and
- 27:49Speaker 3: I'm part of the goalie union. Is as much as
- 27:51Speaker 3: you are being a defenseman. We rely on them so much.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Talk about Sergey Mershov a little bit and Archers sealfts
- 27:58Speaker 3: like Mershov is like is he has advertised. I watched him.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I covered that goal series game for the NHL Network.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I was like this, this kid's unbelievable, like so calm.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean you you when you watch him,
- 28:14Speaker 4: when you watch Sergi, I mean you know right away,
- 28:16Speaker 4: right even in camp, you got this young kid, right,
- 28:20Speaker 4: he's you know, he got the the righty glove and
- 28:24Speaker 4: you just watch him. He's so calm and collected in
- 28:29Speaker 4: the crease, and he's you could really talk about all
- 28:33Speaker 4: our goalies. We've we've gotten so many saves. I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 4: jars is having a obviously he's injured now, but he's
- 28:39Speaker 4: having a great start to the year. Arty has been insane.
- 28:43Speaker 4: And then now Sergei gets called up and he's just
- 28:46Speaker 4: he's he's playing like he's been here for a hundred games, right,
- 28:48Speaker 4: So it's.
- 28:50Speaker 2: So nice to have that.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Hey, it really is, It really is, because obviously you
- 28:55Speaker 4: know we're gonna the game is gonna break down, We're
- 28:58Speaker 4: gonna make some mistakes and we're gonna give up some
- 29:00Speaker 4: I know it was it was an ardy. I mean
- 29:02Speaker 4: a couple of games ago there was like a quick
- 29:05Speaker 4: turnover and I think it was the game before Stockholm
- 29:08Speaker 4: there was a quick turnover and I'm like, oh boy,
- 29:10Speaker 4: now there's a quick three on one pass. Back door
- 29:13Speaker 4: already comes huge save trips me in the process and
- 29:16Speaker 4: I'm on my back. He's on his back, but he
- 29:18Speaker 4: has the bucks. Who gives who? Who cares?
- 29:21Speaker 6: Right?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Well, it's interesting you talk about those star players you're around,
- 29:25Speaker 1: and obviously Crosby's work ethic speaks for itself. What milcan
- 29:28Speaker 1: can still do? What about superstitions? What can you tell
- 29:30Speaker 1: you about that? Connor?
- 29:33Speaker 4: Uh, not too much, not too much yet. I don't
- 29:37Speaker 4: want to. I don't want to a magician, you know,
- 29:41Speaker 4: and do something wrong. But I know that the warm
- 29:44Speaker 4: ups are so funny because like they're they're talking about
- 29:48Speaker 4: like certain guys going and I'm just like, all right,
- 29:51Speaker 4: I'm just gonna stick handle over here, right, you guys
- 29:53Speaker 4: take the zone. I'll just I'll just I'll get ready
- 29:56Speaker 4: to the neutrals him gino Ander, I mean they're just
- 30:00Speaker 4: flying around, like shooting pucks at a certain point of
- 30:03Speaker 4: the board, like Tanger after is like semi circle. He
- 30:06Speaker 4: like throws a puck down. That's kind of where I stretch.
- 30:09Speaker 4: And I've been moving more inside each game, right, trying
- 30:11Speaker 4: to stay out of the way. So it's kind of
- 30:13Speaker 4: funny they've just been doing it one way for twenty years.
- 30:16Speaker 4: I mean, we talked a little bit about just how
- 30:20Speaker 4: I think it's some sort of record probably in all
- 30:22Speaker 4: the sports twenty years together.
- 30:24Speaker 3: I mean, that's yes, But like these guys, you know,
- 30:28Speaker 3: ad Nan and Tal don't know this, but like the
- 30:30Speaker 3: warm ups is a dance, Like it's a dance, and
- 30:33Speaker 3: everybody's got their warm up routine and you go in
- 30:35Speaker 3: the same spot. So when you come to a new team,
- 30:38Speaker 3: like I've done that, you're kind of like before, like, hey,
- 30:40Speaker 3: where does everybody go? So I don't fucking run into
- 30:43Speaker 3: somebody right now? And just like you know, you don't
- 30:45Speaker 3: want to ruin a game, and you're the new guys,
- 30:47Speaker 3: you're like, hey, just tell me where it goes. It's
- 30:49Speaker 3: like I can imagine them before they're like, okay, at
- 30:51Speaker 3: the twelve minute mark, I'm going here, So get out
- 30:54Speaker 3: of the.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Way exactly, and like last puck, I just start, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 4: usually get involved. You know, a lot of guys are
- 31:01Speaker 4: NetFront trying to bang home the last puck. You know.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Then we get off for and then you know, sid Gino,
- 31:07Speaker 4: Tanger and Hazy are there. I'm just I'm sitting at
- 31:10Speaker 4: the blue waiting for him to finish up. See you scores,
- 31:12Speaker 4: and then I can go take some shots on it,
- 31:14Speaker 4: get some laps and get off the ice.
- 31:16Speaker 6: Uh.
- 31:17Speaker 4: It's pretty funny. I mean, I like twenty years together.
- 31:19Speaker 4: It's just crazy too. It's hard to fathom, right, I mean,
- 31:22Speaker 4: as a player, it's like I'm your eight, and it's like,
- 31:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's flown by, but like that's eight a lot,
- 31:30Speaker 4: you know.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I did, I did third, You'll see,
- 31:35Speaker 3: like I did thirteen stopped and they're still playing. And
- 31:38Speaker 3: when I came into the league, he was still Sidney
- 31:41Speaker 3: Crosby and Avighinni Malkin like they were still them. And
- 31:44Speaker 3: then I'm out of the league and they're still going.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So it's like makes me feel awful about myself, but
- 31:50Speaker 3: it's just they're so good.
- 31:52Speaker 4: No, there's no shame, there's no shame. It's it's just
- 31:55Speaker 4: how special they are, and you know they're not slowing down,
- 31:58Speaker 4: so it's it's it's been a lot of fun to
- 32:01Speaker 4: to experience and to meet them and to play on
- 32:04Speaker 4: the same side for once.
- 32:06Speaker 1: It's awesome. Here there's a familiar face involved Connor in
- 32:09Speaker 1: getting into Pittsburgh. That's Jason Spetza, who's the Penguin's assistant GM.
- 32:12Speaker 1: You actually fought spets in your NHL debut with Boston
- 32:15Speaker 1: when he was in Dallas. Has that fight come up yet?
- 32:18Speaker 1: And can we get a sequel?
- 32:19Speaker 4: You know, it hasn't come up yet. It hasn't come
- 32:22Speaker 4: up yet. I was he was floating around that he's
- 32:26Speaker 4: always riding the bike and sweating in the gym. I
- 32:30Speaker 4: almost made a quick joke, you know, I was playing
- 32:32Speaker 4: the next night. He was in a conversation with someone.
- 32:35Speaker 4: I didn't really want to interrupt, but I kind of
- 32:36Speaker 4: wanted to hit him with, you know, hey, Spiz tomorrow night,
- 32:39Speaker 4: does the opponent anyone playing in their NHL debut that
- 32:41Speaker 4: I can jump tomorrow like you did?
- 32:43Speaker 6: You know?
- 32:44Speaker 4: But I let it go because you guys, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 4: I'm just trying to survive. I'm game one. I'm just
- 32:50Speaker 4: trying to survive a funny story. I got called up
- 32:54Speaker 4: in Dallas. The team was already on a trip, and
- 32:57Speaker 4: I show I get to call eleven pm. The night
- 32:59Speaker 4: before I was going to bed. My roommate had like
- 33:02Speaker 4: woke me up and said, oh, like Swings is trying
- 33:05Speaker 4: to call you. I'm like, oh, okay, weird, right, Okay,
- 33:08Speaker 4: I get called up whatever. I have a nine am
- 33:10Speaker 4: flight at a Logan got to go there from Providence.
- 33:13Speaker 4: I get there for my flight Boston actually didn't pay
- 33:17Speaker 4: for my ticket, right, No, they reserved it, he never
- 33:22Speaker 4: purchased it, brutal. So I'm at you know, terminal whatever.
- 33:27Speaker 4: I'm at Terminal A with my bag, my sticks. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 4: I'm on the road for like four days. I think
- 33:31Speaker 4: it's like three games now, and they don't have the ticket.
- 33:36Speaker 4: So I'd call like team services and ended up being like, oh,
- 33:41Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, right, I think I knew
- 33:43Speaker 4: what happened. Anyway, I got a new flight. It was
- 33:45Speaker 4: still direct, but it was in Terminal C. So here
- 33:47Speaker 4: I am. Now, I got my bag, we go lugging
- 33:50Speaker 4: it over to terminal nightmare. Yeah, So it was pretty funny.
- 33:54Speaker 4: I met the team. I actually didn't even know I
- 33:56Speaker 4: was playing, Like I mean, I kind of showed up
- 33:59Speaker 4: to pregame skate and my name was on the thing,
- 34:03Speaker 4: so I knew I was in then, but I didn't
- 34:06Speaker 4: really get much warning, which I mean, I'd prefer it
- 34:08Speaker 4: that way anyway.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you kind of just want to You don't want
- 34:12Speaker 3: to have to sit and think about it. You just
- 34:14Speaker 3: want to just just jump in and go. But I mean,
- 34:18Speaker 3: you gotta. Next time you see Spats, just ask him.
- 34:21Speaker 3: He signed me a stick when we played together, and
- 34:25Speaker 3: he'll get you'll get a kick out of it. I
- 34:27Speaker 3: got beers taken off the plane by accident, but he
- 34:30Speaker 3: always would rag on me, and he signed me a
- 34:32Speaker 3: stick once, saying thanks for getting the beers out of
- 34:34Speaker 3: the plane for the guy. So he's like he's he is.
- 34:38Speaker 3: He might look serious, but he's a laid back guy.
- 34:40Speaker 3: So you gotta go joke with him a little bit
- 34:41Speaker 3: about fighting him. But I want to talk about your
- 34:45Speaker 3: game misconduct. When you had family in town, And I
- 34:49Speaker 3: once had my girlfriend at the time that I was
- 34:52Speaker 3: dating come watch a game and she brought like her
- 34:55Speaker 3: friends and was like, oh, yeah, this, you know my
- 34:57Speaker 3: boyfriend and I got kicked out like the first shift,
- 34:59Speaker 3: and they were just My wife was like, it doesn't
- 35:02Speaker 3: always happen. So the friends ended up leaving. But you
- 35:04Speaker 3: had your family in town, right I did.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I did.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Take us through that game a bit. How how was
- 35:11Speaker 2: that after?
- 35:12Speaker 4: It was? It wasn't great, but it wasn't great. It
- 35:19Speaker 4: wasn't great, but yeah, that was my I mean they
- 35:24Speaker 4: had scored a goal and like we sent out of
- 35:26Speaker 4: our fourth line and our third d pair, right, so,
- 35:29Speaker 4: I mean we're kind of looking for momentum back and
- 35:31Speaker 4: I had a chance to hit, you know, their best player.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Obviously he wasn't ready for it. I was a little
- 35:37Speaker 4: early call it, and yep, I served my time, got
- 35:40Speaker 4: my two gamer. I served that because yeah, it wasn't
- 35:44Speaker 4: a great hit.
- 35:46Speaker 1: There.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Listen, we all hit we all mine was it? Mine
- 35:48Speaker 3: was dirty too, I need clutterbuck in the head. And
- 35:51Speaker 3: then was like he's okay now, yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and I was. Nico came back in the game,
- 35:56Speaker 4: which I was thankful for. But yeah, obviously I don't
- 35:58Speaker 4: want to throw a hit like that. Kind of miss
- 36:00Speaker 4: timed it and kind of got got him right in
- 36:02Speaker 4: the jaw, you know, No good but uh yeah it
- 36:08Speaker 4: wasn't good. Got the got the got the boot. And
- 36:11Speaker 4: then uh you had to see my family after.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Who was the most upset afterwards? My dad?
- 36:18Speaker 4: He yeah, he's always the most upset. He's he's he
- 36:24Speaker 4: thinks I should play thirty minutes.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Well, I was saying, yeah, it was the upset that
- 36:27Speaker 1: you made the hint, or was the upset that it
- 36:29Speaker 1: was a bad call?
- 36:31Speaker 4: In his eyes, it was a bad call.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Boy good dad, exact a boy screwed.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Game's gone soft, you know, but yeah it was an ideal.
- 36:45Speaker 1: No, that's good. I'm glad that dad has your back
- 36:47Speaker 1: no matter what. Speaking of guy has your back. How
- 36:49Speaker 1: about your head coach? Dan Muse, big dick dan Muse.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I mean he goes in that room with that energy
- 36:54Speaker 1: and that bear that's what we call him here. How
- 36:58Speaker 1: good a coach is he?
- 36:59Speaker 4: And that voice he's yeah, yeah, he's a he's dials in.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I got a lot of questions are in camp, and
- 37:05Speaker 4: it was a he's just so detail oriented. I think
- 37:09Speaker 4: if I the one thing that I describe most is
- 37:13Speaker 4: detail oriented. He's just so dialed. I mean for camp obviously,
- 37:17Speaker 4: whole new coaching staff, we're learning the system. We're learning
- 37:21Speaker 4: the systems. Each day was like a different like Okay,
- 37:25Speaker 4: we're gonna do for check today, Okay, neutral zone, okay,
- 37:28Speaker 4: D zone. Basically a designated day for each each system
- 37:32Speaker 4: and and yeah, there's a lot of them, right when
- 37:34Speaker 4: you go from totally from scratching everything new. And every
- 37:38Speaker 4: night he would send a video of him, of him
- 37:44Speaker 4: basically voiceover of like all these different plays and how
- 37:47Speaker 4: he wants to and it's like, oh, yeah, just watch
- 37:50Speaker 4: what it's a quick video. It's a quick video. Don't
- 37:53Speaker 4: watch and you open it up and it's twenty five minutes.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Really, that's what that voice just. It's like Matthew McConaughey
- 38:01Speaker 2: on cop Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Yeah, like every day. But you know, he's trying to
- 38:04Speaker 4: he's trying to give us a little head start on
- 38:07Speaker 4: on the new systems. And we've we've been pretty good
- 38:10Speaker 4: with him and we've been getting better and that's that's
- 38:13Speaker 4: what you want. Obviously, we had a great start to
- 38:15Speaker 4: the year. I think we're real happy with where where
- 38:18Speaker 4: we are now, and I think we all think we
- 38:21Speaker 4: have we have more to give. So yeah, he's muser
- 38:26Speaker 4: has been he's been great. Uh, it's it's it's been
- 38:30Speaker 4: so we have a couple of mutual friends in the
- 38:32Speaker 4: hockey world, and and after the trade, I was kind
- 38:36Speaker 4: of talking to a couple of them. They were like, oh, like,
- 38:39Speaker 4: you're gonna love him, Like really, he just loves work
- 38:42Speaker 4: and that's kind of my style and and yeah, just
- 38:45Speaker 4: learning the systems. I thought that was pretty funny getting
- 38:47Speaker 4: those twenty minute videos the night before.
- 38:50Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 38:51Speaker 3: That's that's I've never heard of coach do that. That's unbelievable.
- 38:54Speaker 3: And I mean, he's he is. The one thing talking
- 38:57Speaker 3: about him at the network all the time is I'm like,
- 38:58Speaker 3: you guys look so detail oriented, Like you guys are connected,
- 39:02Speaker 3: and I feel like that's a word he uses a lot,
- 39:04Speaker 3: but it just seems like you guys are stuck together.
- 39:07Speaker 3: And how does this how does that compare to kind
- 39:09Speaker 3: of some of the big teams you were on, you know,
- 39:11Speaker 3: you your first season, you go to Game seven in
- 39:13Speaker 3: the Stanley Cup Final, like that team in Boston, Like,
- 39:16Speaker 3: do you see some comparisons or is it a little
- 39:19Speaker 3: too early to tell.
- 39:20Speaker 4: I think it's a little too early to tell. That
- 39:23Speaker 4: first year I ended up only playing nineteen games regular season,
- 39:26Speaker 4: played like fifty something in Providence, So I was kind
- 39:29Speaker 4: of up and down. I think I got two stints
- 39:31Speaker 4: I got. I got like a November to December stint,
- 39:35Speaker 4: back down and then up March and then the rest
- 39:38Speaker 4: of the way. Yeah, a little too early to tell,
- 39:41Speaker 4: but I think you look at that team. We obviously
- 39:45Speaker 4: had had a bunch of star power on that team too,
- 39:50Speaker 4: and we had a great regular season and we obviously
- 39:56Speaker 4: made that push at game seven in Toronto. Round one,
- 40:00Speaker 4: we took Columbus, took us to six. Round two, we
- 40:04Speaker 4: had swept the Hurricanes in the third round, and then
- 40:08Speaker 4: we had that thirteen day layover before we got the Blues. Yeah,
- 40:15Speaker 4: so fun times. But definitely some similarities in terms of
- 40:20Speaker 4: that that compete level, that star power that you know,
- 40:23Speaker 4: we're playing together right now. And obviously no, obviously we're
- 40:29Speaker 4: in a good spot right now, but you know, first
- 40:31Speaker 4: twenty games of the regular season isn't really gonna help you, right,
- 40:34Speaker 4: you want to be clicking at the right times and
- 40:36Speaker 4: and and really just get into the playoffs. That's that's
- 40:40Speaker 4: kind of all that matters, and that's kind of our goal.
- 40:41Speaker 4: And when we do that, we'll well we'll take it
- 40:45Speaker 4: to the next step and start talking postseason.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah you can't. You can't win it, but you can
- 40:49Speaker 2: lose it.
- 40:50Speaker 3: You can keep you can kind of knock yourselves out
- 40:52Speaker 3: of the playoffs early, right, So you guys have done
- 40:54Speaker 3: great stuff early.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Right, right, exactly, And that's kind of what we plan for.
- 40:58Speaker 4: And and yeah, I guess media kind of wrote us off.
- 41:01Speaker 4: And I think we've used that as fuel. And we
- 41:04Speaker 4: weren't supposed to be a you know, top team in
- 41:07Speaker 4: the league, never mind the division. And yeah, we're we're
- 41:11Speaker 4: pretty happy with our start.
- 41:13Speaker 1: No question about last one. For me, Connor, this has
- 41:15Speaker 1: been great. I want your best story about the rat
- 41:18Speaker 1: Brad Morshant.
- 41:20Speaker 4: Who on the spot, Here on the spot, keep a PG.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Take a sip of water.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I mean it's I mean it's it's iHeart audio. So
- 41:30Speaker 2: you're good.
- 41:31Speaker 1: You know you'll probably get.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You'll get a couple of thousand. Who knows mic go viral.
- 41:36Speaker 2: We don't know, hum.
- 41:42Speaker 7: Thinking here, I love I love you, go, I love
- 41:51Speaker 7: you going through the rolodex.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Correct. I wish I can't tell that we told you
- 41:58Speaker 1: ahead of time.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Well that's that's our producers. You know.
- 42:01Speaker 3: He sometimes just forgets things. He's California sober.
- 42:06Speaker 4: I don't think I have anything too good for you
- 42:07Speaker 4: guys right now, but but I mean the thing with Marsh,
- 42:10Speaker 4: I mean he's.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I got one for you, that I got one for you.
- 42:14Speaker 3: What's the best chirp you've heard him say to a guy?
- 42:19Speaker 4: I heard him say one time, holy shit.
- 42:22Speaker 2: You could say ship on this your fire?
- 42:24Speaker 4: He said, holy ship And they say, I have a
- 42:27Speaker 4: big nose.
- 42:31Speaker 1: That be to me.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Uh No.
- 42:36Speaker 4: The thing with Marsh, I mean, he's he's, he's, he's
- 42:39Speaker 4: an incredible person. But he's the same guy all the time.
- 42:43Speaker 4: So like what we see him pissing everyone off on
- 42:46Speaker 4: the ice, like he's he's the same way in the gym,
- 42:50Speaker 4: he's the same way in practice. He's the same way
- 42:52Speaker 4: in the in the meal room like he's he's just
- 42:56Speaker 4: the same. And I think that's why his teammates love
- 43:00Speaker 4: him so much. He's just so genuine. He's such a
- 43:02Speaker 4: good guy. And yeah, call him a rat. He's just
- 43:07Speaker 4: a competitor. He's he's not really scared anything. And I
- 43:11Speaker 4: think that's what that that's what makes him so admirable,
- 43:14Speaker 4: especially being his teammate and watching firsthand how much work
- 43:17Speaker 4: and how much all the stuff he puts in and
- 43:21Speaker 4: he's and then a thousand points the other night, so
- 43:23Speaker 4: you know, congrats to him.
- 43:25Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean he's a great veteran.
- 43:28Speaker 3: And you know, my final one for you is like,
- 43:31Speaker 3: you know, you've you've worked your ass off in your career,
- 43:33Speaker 3: and I do respect your game a lot. I always
- 43:37Speaker 3: I like watching you play and and you're heart on
- 43:39Speaker 3: guys and stuff like that. Was there was there a
- 43:42Speaker 3: veteran early on that you kind of modeled your game
- 43:44Speaker 3: after or helped you that you kind of a lot
- 43:49Speaker 3: of his advice has helped as you went along in
- 43:51Speaker 3: your career.
- 43:54Speaker 4: I think, I think early on Kevin Miller.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Wow, that's a good one.
- 44:00Speaker 4: He's he's he's a lot bigger and stronger and tougher
- 44:03Speaker 4: than me for sure. But he was fun to watch
- 44:07Speaker 4: because he was so hard on guys and then he
- 44:11Speaker 4: would make a backhand slip to the middle like he
- 44:15Speaker 4: had this he had the skill that I didn't really
- 44:17Speaker 4: know about right until I became his teammate. And then
- 44:21Speaker 4: my first year I was on American League deal in Providence,
- 44:23Speaker 4: so I kind of watched a lot of the bruined
- 44:25Speaker 4: games just because you know, same Network and always on
- 44:28Speaker 4: the TV, and I always found him just fun to
- 44:33Speaker 4: watch because he was so good and then he was
- 44:37Speaker 4: also so tough and so hard and so mean.
- 44:40Speaker 2: He was a nail gun.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Nail gun. So I I there's what I modeled my
- 44:45Speaker 4: game after him. Probably not because he's just I'm kind
- 44:49Speaker 4: of nothing in terms of the physical presence he was.
- 44:51Speaker 3: I mean I watched that Global Series game. I saw
- 44:54Speaker 3: a couple of those greasy little rib shots.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, there were some of those, for sure,
- 45:03Speaker 4: but I'd say him for sure.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Oh well, listen, this was a fantastic name of your Connor.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Like you said, this has been a pleasant surprise, Bega
- 45:10Speaker 1: of the Pittsfurd Penguins have been Hope you guys keep
- 45:13Speaker 1: it rolling and once we stop recording it and tell
- 45:15Speaker 1: us this Brad Marstans story.
- 45:16Speaker 6: Thanks man, Thanks guys.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Time now for a little studophile in six Yeah, tell you.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I'll tell you what the Smashing Machine tanks in just
- 45:31Speaker 1: a second. But I want to hear JD's review of
- 45:33Speaker 1: The Running Man. I was in Columbus and like random
- 45:35Speaker 1: guy Koti, hey you used to watching ESPN. Thanks so much,
- 45:37Speaker 1: appreciate he have you seen The Running man, you like, no,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I haven't a chance yet. I'm excited to see it.
- 45:41Speaker 1: I love the original. My brother's a huge schwartz singer.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Guy Schwartzinger's statue in Columbus. It's a real place for
- 45:46Speaker 1: juice heads because when Schwartzinger won Mister Universe, it did
- 45:49Speaker 1: not realize it was in Columbus, Ohio. So they really
- 45:51Speaker 1: pay homage to Arnold and The Running Man and that
- 45:54Speaker 1: great scene. I mean, listen, it's tough to top. Richard
- 45:56Speaker 1: Dawson is killing when he says killing, I'll be back.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Hecaus only in a rerun. So tell me about The
- 46:00Speaker 1: Running Man. Glenn Powell version, Edgar Wright directing it, how I.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Was, Uh, well, I'll preface all of it by saying,
- 46:07Speaker 3: you know, I get into the we we drive to
- 46:10Speaker 3: the theater here up in Jersey and we get into
- 46:13Speaker 3: the elevator in the parking garage to go down to
- 46:15Speaker 3: walk across the street. And we're in the elevator with
- 46:18Speaker 3: this this gentleman. He goes, what are you guys going
- 46:20Speaker 3: to see? We're like, none of your damn business, sir,
- 46:24Speaker 3: Step step the fuck back.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, go fuck no, I said, you don't
- 46:29Speaker 2: know me no.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Anyway, I said, uh, I'm going to see Running Man
- 46:33Speaker 3: and he goes, oh, he goes, He goes kind of
- 46:36Speaker 3: pauses and I'm like, well what and he's just like
- 46:41Speaker 3: he's like, just just be prepared. The first twenty thirty
- 46:43Speaker 3: minutes a little slow, but then it really picks up
- 46:46Speaker 3: and it's a great movie.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Nice.
- 46:48Speaker 3: The build up to it is like kind of feels
- 46:50Speaker 3: like all the old all the other Netflix cheesy movies
- 46:53Speaker 3: where it's like, is this acting and writing? But once
- 46:56Speaker 3: they get to kind of the the build up to
- 46:58Speaker 3: the the actual show and the Running Man itself, it's
- 47:02Speaker 3: it's action packed, I mean, and it's it's kind of
- 47:05Speaker 3: an homage to the old school action movies with the
- 47:07Speaker 3: cheesy acting, and I feel like they might have kind
- 47:10Speaker 3: of went on the nose a little bit with the
- 47:13Speaker 3: over the top, you know, and and just kind of
- 47:16Speaker 3: out of control action where you're like, this makes no sense,
- 47:20Speaker 3: but it's like, Okay, this feels like kind of the
- 47:22Speaker 3: same vibe as the old Running Man, which I liked
- 47:24Speaker 3: as well.
- 47:25Speaker 2: It's a great movie.
- 47:26Speaker 3: I think Michael Sarah comes in with a small cameo
- 47:30Speaker 3: and steals the movie, like he always doesn't. Think he's great. Yeah,
- 47:36Speaker 3: And I think the guy playing the host is absolutely amazing.
- 47:40Speaker 3: You're the host of the show. I can't I don't
- 47:42Speaker 3: know his name, but you will probably find it quick
- 47:46Speaker 3: at it. But it's a great movie. I think it's
- 47:48Speaker 3: it's just he's.
- 47:49Speaker 1: The block actor who was nominated for an Oscar last year. Yes,
- 47:52Speaker 1: he was his face right now, we're gonna get it momentarily,
- 47:56Speaker 1: Mir Tew, he was great. Coleman Domingo, Coleman Domingo. He
- 48:03Speaker 1: was in Ruston, which was an Yes, he was.
- 48:06Speaker 3: He's fantastic in it, fantastic. And you know, I think
- 48:10Speaker 3: Glenn Pale's got some good moments. But I just think
- 48:12Speaker 3: it's a great It's just a good action movie. Kind
- 48:13Speaker 3: of turned your brain off. Yeah, have some funny laughs
- 48:16Speaker 3: along the way, and it's like it satisfies that itch.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I love it. I'm glad to hear that my brother's
- 48:21Speaker 1: are here joining me in find like I said, so
- 48:22Speaker 1: hopefully they'll go check that out sooner rather than later.
- 48:24Speaker 1: As I told you last and the line changed. While
- 48:26Speaker 1: working with Corey Schneider, I held up my copy of
- 48:28Speaker 1: Variety which had the Smashing Machine on it, and your
- 48:30Speaker 1: words were I heard it sucked. I did, I did,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and I said, yeah, I said, so I watched it,
- 48:38Speaker 1: and I'm so excited to watch it. Benny Safti won
- 48:40Speaker 1: half of the Saftew Brothers, and of course Dwayne Johnson's
- 48:43Speaker 1: starring playing Mark Kerr, who was a real life UFC fighter.
- 48:46Speaker 1: And I'm watching it. I'm like I said, it takes
- 48:48Speaker 1: a while to get used to the Rock's face. He's
- 48:49Speaker 1: wearing prosthetics and he's bigger than he is. You put
- 48:51Speaker 1: on thirty pounds of muscle if you can believe the
- 48:53Speaker 1: guy's already massive. And Emily Blunt's girlfriend, it's a very
- 48:57Speaker 1: kind of naturalistic feel to it, just about their life
- 48:59Speaker 1: and he's training and he's in Japan, he's trying to
- 49:01Speaker 1: get his big shot and this is the early days
- 49:02Speaker 1: of UFC. And here's my thing, Jadi. I appreciate a
- 49:05Speaker 1: film that's going for realism, a movie that's going to
- 49:08Speaker 1: be more raging, bold and rocky, you know, a little
- 49:09Speaker 1: more downbeat, character based. But eventually you gotta give me something.
- 49:13Speaker 1: And there's not much of a narrative in the movie,
- 49:15Speaker 1: and it was tedious, Like eventually I was like, okay, listen,
- 49:17Speaker 1: I don't need to have him win the fight, win
- 49:19Speaker 1: the girl. But I'm like, eventually something has to happen.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I'll give you a quick example. Once he comes down
- 49:23Speaker 1: the stairs and Emily has made him a protein shake.
- 49:25Speaker 1: He's like, oh, thanks so much, baby. It's like a
- 49:27Speaker 1: very sweet, like soft nature. Guy's go, oh, thanks so
- 49:28Speaker 1: much baby. He's like, what did you use the h
- 49:31Speaker 1: did you skim milk? She's like, guy, He's like, oh,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I'm using the uh, I'm using the lope of the
- 49:36Speaker 1: no fat milk down and she's like, oh, I'm so sorry.
- 49:38Speaker 1: It's ok. It was make another one. And it literally
- 49:40Speaker 1: shows him, like in real time, dumping the blender, putting
- 49:43Speaker 1: the shake back in. I'm like, is there gonna be
- 49:44Speaker 1: a fight about the protein shakes gonna happen? Like it's
- 49:47Speaker 1: just showing their life. This is just the mundane life
- 49:49Speaker 1: of a fighter. You get up, you have a shake.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It wasn't the shake you wanted it. These are these
- 49:53Speaker 1: microaggressions that lead to fights. Eventually, I'm like, Okay, I
- 49:55Speaker 1: don't need to see the life of a fighter this much.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And do you do you feel the Safti brothers
- 50:01Speaker 3: are getting to that point now. Where like they're just
- 50:03Speaker 3: allowed and given carte blanche and they're making these movies
- 50:06Speaker 3: where you're like, fucking, just give me a break.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm actually kind of happy the movie tanked.
- 50:12Speaker 1: It would cost fifty million dollars from eight twenty four,
- 50:14Speaker 1: which is Towel knows is one of the great independent
- 50:16Speaker 1: studios out there right now. Fifty million wards a lot,
- 50:19Speaker 1: six million dollars opening weekend. Oh, because they're like, no,
- 50:21Speaker 1: it's the Row, people go see nect No they won't.
- 50:23Speaker 1: What's the word of Malcolms. I'm like, no, this is
- 50:25Speaker 1: a boring movie. There's really nothing that happens in this movie.
- 50:27Speaker 1: It's just honka unka honka. So it did not work out.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Tal Are you gonna go see either of these films,
- 50:33Speaker 1: The Running Man or The Smashing Machine, which are now
- 50:35Speaker 1: gonna hope to get some like awards Bate Hight, They're
- 50:37Speaker 1: gonna hope Emily Blunt, who's great in it, we'll get
- 50:39Speaker 1: an Oscar nomination. Maybe the Rock will get something for
- 50:41Speaker 1: up the movie unfortunately has not done well. Which of
- 50:43Speaker 1: these two you're gonna we're prime to see?
- 50:45Speaker 5: Running Man is definitely when I got I feel like
- 50:47Speaker 5: that when you got to see in theaters. So I'm
- 50:49Speaker 5: gonna try and check that out maybe next week during
- 50:52Speaker 5: the during the holiday. You know, Smashing Machine.
- 50:55Speaker 2: I saw the doc.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Years ago and really liked it and was totally obviously
- 51:00Speaker 5: you hear about you know, one of the Safty Bros
- 51:02Speaker 5: and Dwayne Johnson making this film and this sounds awesome.
- 51:05Speaker 5: The trailer was great trailer, and I started reading and
- 51:08Speaker 5: it was so it was top of my list. And
- 51:09Speaker 5: then I started reading reviews and I thought, eh, I'll
- 51:12Speaker 5: stream it.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I'll stream it.
- 51:14Speaker 5: And we got another Safti bro coming out with Marty
- 51:16Speaker 5: Supreme soon next month, with Timothy chala May. So they're
- 51:21Speaker 5: sha what you know, one Safti bro couldn't get it
- 51:25Speaker 5: done necessarily, Maybe the next one will be big Oscar movie.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yeah, great reviews from Marty Supreme, Timothay Shalomy playing a
- 51:31Speaker 1: ping punk champion, and they say it's bizarre, it's wacky,
- 51:35Speaker 1: And I'm telling you it's gonna be maybe him or
- 51:36Speaker 1: Leo for Best Actor for the Academy Awards. It's supposed
- 51:39Speaker 1: to be outstandings. You're right, one Staffie brother couldn't get done,
- 51:41Speaker 1: Perhaps the other one will. All right, I want to
- 51:43Speaker 1: talk with Jack Hughes. Jacques ces I'll tell Jack Hughes
- 51:47Speaker 1: out until at least early January, after he described as
- 51:49Speaker 1: a freak accident by East Pans Emily Kaplan sitting a
- 51:52Speaker 1: cut to his finger that required surgery JD. He'll be
- 51:55Speaker 1: reevaluating six weeks the Olympics beginning twelve weeks.
- 51:59Speaker 3: What happened, Yeah, that's scary. I you know, I think
- 52:02Speaker 3: they're keeping it pretty hush hush. The said a knife cut.
- 52:05Speaker 3: There's no chance it's a knife cut. He either slipped
- 52:08Speaker 3: and fell in some glass or put his hand down
- 52:11Speaker 3: and a glass broke. And yes, it's sad, it's it sucks.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I mean, you can't catch a break, Jackie boy. And uh,
- 52:18Speaker 3: that's like the way when they're saying that much time
- 52:21Speaker 3: that that sounds like tendon. And anytime he cut a tendon,
- 52:25Speaker 3: he gotta have that surgically repaired.
- 52:26Speaker 2: That's not great. So I feel for him.
- 52:29Speaker 3: He was having an unbelievable year to start in this
- 52:33Speaker 3: Devil's team was having an unbelievable start, and you know
- 52:36Speaker 3: they lose last game pretty handedly. And uh, yeah, I
- 52:41Speaker 3: just I hope he's okay speed recovery. I hope he
- 52:43Speaker 3: can make it back for the Olympics. But I just
- 52:44Speaker 3: hope he can if it's nothing too too serious, and
- 52:47Speaker 3: you know, maybe it's six months, but he comes back
- 52:49Speaker 3: to full form because you don't have anything that's compromising
- 52:52Speaker 3: for his career.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Devil's roped to a hot start. They're
- 52:55Speaker 1: the best team in the Metropolitan Division. Again. It's like
- 52:57Speaker 1: Jack Hughes, the guy who's a shoe in for the
- 52:59Speaker 1: Ust Olympic team. Hopefully he will be back and be
- 53:01Speaker 1: able to play at that level. And other dinner related
- 53:04Speaker 1: injury news Florida Panthers for a e to Luos to
- 53:07Speaker 1: Ryan and week to week after being burned in a
- 53:09Speaker 1: barbecue accident.
- 53:12Speaker 3: That really have what the fuck is going on right now?
- 53:16Speaker 3: That that's true?
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yeah, when it rains, it poor. It is a barbecue accent.
- 53:20Speaker 1: According to his head coach Palm Ma Reice, it's one
- 53:22Speaker 1: that can't be made up right. It's a barbecue, like
- 53:24Speaker 1: he's just.
- 53:25Speaker 2: But you don't know what they work a barbecue E
- 53:28Speaker 2: two E two no two.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Sometimes guys are a little fire. Hey, put me on
- 53:33Speaker 1: the barbecue. I know how to do the stakes? Really
- 53:35Speaker 1: do you do? You know what you're doing now the
- 53:37Speaker 1: coals are too hot. Now someone starts to spring lighter fluid.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Now you're out weak to week.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Poor guy happens, poor guy. Let's let's let's get some
- 53:44Speaker 3: happy news, happy news.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'll give you one little thing, Adrian kempy.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Oh there you go. Now we're back, uh eight.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Years, eighty five million dollars, the copa Tarba Tari. He'll
- 53:55Speaker 1: be the face of the Kings.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Yep.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Amazing, well deserved. The funny part about this and we
- 54:00Speaker 3: can turn it. At the start of the season, we
- 54:02Speaker 3: were all like, oh my god, like how hard are
- 54:05Speaker 3: all we in the media? Like this free agency class
- 54:08Speaker 3: is going to be the best ever, And I think,
- 54:10Speaker 3: who's laugh It's like Olivia bjork Strand is the last.
- 54:15Speaker 3: It's like there's like two big names that need to
- 54:18Speaker 3: get resigned and they're gonna maybe they'll get paid more
- 54:21Speaker 3: because of it. They're probably, but it's gonna be the
- 54:23Speaker 3: most boring free agency of all time after this season,
- 54:27Speaker 3: just because everybody's signing now. But I mean, good for Tucker. Yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 3: Tucker Carlston might might sign. Yeah he might sign. I
- 54:39Speaker 3: think he might sign, or they're gonna trade and sign him.
- 54:41Speaker 3: If they keep, if they keep kind of falling fat
- 54:44Speaker 3: on their face, they think they'll trade him for something interesting.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Okay, well that does it for this week's episode of Scripted.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Thank he wants to get a Connor Clifton, that great
- 54:52Speaker 1: Bar Marshant story. And all of us for checking us out.
