- 0:02Speaker 1: FP.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Santangelo what up? You can find him on X on
- 0:06Speaker 2: a Fight and Hydrant. We appreciate you being on. Proud
- 0:09Speaker 2: Father too, proud son of two San Francisco Giants, broadcaster
- 0:14Speaker 2: at KNBR Radio, the show host. It's great to have
- 0:17Speaker 2: you here. I don't know if I can handle all
- 0:19Speaker 2: the San Francisco Giant stuff that you've got going on FP,
- 0:22Speaker 2: but I love this.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We're going to do this. We're going to do this.
- 0:25Speaker 2: How worried man? What a wild ride it has been
- 0:27Speaker 2: for the San Francisco Giants. What's been the greatest thing
- 0:30Speaker 2: that you've noticed this year?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Well, first of all, thanks for having me on you guys.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It's really cool to be on with you guys always.
- 0:36Speaker 3: And yeah, I'm not a homer as a broadcaster at all,
- 0:39Speaker 3: as you can tell.
- 0:40Speaker 1: By the attire. I mean, I'm into it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: We're all into it in San Francisco right now. Like
- 0:44Speaker 3: the last two games against the Dodgers were kind of
- 0:45Speaker 3: a buzzkill. But you're not going to win every game
- 0:48Speaker 3: the rest of the year. You're not going to run
- 0:50Speaker 3: the table. There's still a game and a half out
- 0:51Speaker 3: of that last wild card spot. So now I go
- 0:53Speaker 3: to Arizona and get to work today, and then you
- 0:56Speaker 3: know how they've turned it around. You guys have all
- 0:59Speaker 3: been there and been in the clubhouse where they just,
- 1:02Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you know they weren't having fun
- 1:04Speaker 3: playing baseball. You walk in every day and it's kind of,
- 1:07Speaker 3: you know, stagging in a little bit.
- 1:09Speaker 1: You're losing a lot.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Then all of a sudden, you have a good series
- 1:11Speaker 3: against the Brewers in Milwaukee. You had the best home
- 1:13Speaker 3: record in baseball at the time. You take two out
- 1:15Speaker 3: of three there. Then you come home and sweep the Cubs,
- 1:18Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, you're starting to think we
- 1:19Speaker 3: can do this. And you know, the big guys Raffi
- 1:23Speaker 3: and Willie Damas and Matt Chapman are hitting.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And then you sprinkle in the psychopath in right field,
- 1:28Speaker 1: Drew Gilbert, who's.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Out of this total college atmosphere to the clubhouse, and
- 1:33Speaker 3: you know, hats off. You guys, know when you're a
- 1:35Speaker 3: veteran and you have some crazy kid come in a
- 1:37Speaker 3: lot of times, back in the old days, it was
- 1:39Speaker 3: be seen and not heard, but they've embraced this guy,
- 1:42Speaker 3: the veterans, and you've seen all the antics in the
- 1:44Speaker 3: dugout but he's playing well too, so that holds a
- 1:47Speaker 3: lot of credibility to what he's doing. So you just
- 1:50Speaker 3: talk about the energy they have and you're hoping they've
- 1:53Speaker 3: been resilient all year. And they lost two out of
- 1:55Speaker 3: three of the Dodgers, and they got spanked Saturday, and
- 1:57Speaker 3: they got spanked yesterday, But like hopefully, you know, with
- 2:01Speaker 3: the resiliency they've had this year, they're on the plane,
- 2:04Speaker 3: they're in Arizona, and with Bryce Eldridge coming up today,
- 2:07Speaker 3: you never know what's gonna happen.
- 2:09Speaker 4: You talk about all the different storylines and everything, but
- 2:12Speaker 4: obviously the Dodgers scored a lot of runs against them,
- 2:15Speaker 4: and these in those last two games this series. My
- 2:17Speaker 4: thing is Web gave up six runs, Ray gave up
- 2:22Speaker 4: five runs. Two guys we talk about all the time
- 2:25Speaker 4: here your closer comes in when you're winning and gives
- 2:27Speaker 4: up the lead and you lose. How deflating that is
- 2:31Speaker 4: when your two come in and do that against the team.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Not even talking about Dodgers Giants rivalry here, just talking
- 2:40Speaker 4: about the fact that when those two guys, when they're
- 2:42Speaker 4: on the hill, you're like, we're not win one of
- 2:45Speaker 4: these two them. We're gonna take this series. How deflating
- 2:49Speaker 4: was that for you and your positive vibes.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I mean, we're obviously expecting, like Friday night was sick,
- 2:57Speaker 3: you guys. The atmosphere at the ballpark was insane. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 3: forty thousand people. It's been a lot of Dodger fans
- 3:02Speaker 3: at Oracle Park in the past, but the Giants fans
- 3:05Speaker 3: showed up and they showed out. When we were just
- 3:07Speaker 3: hoping for Patrick Bailey to hit a sack fly, and
- 3:10Speaker 3: as soon as it left his bat, you knew the
- 3:11Speaker 3: game was over.
- 3:12Speaker 1: No idea it was going to be a walk off
- 3:13Speaker 1: Grand Slam.
- 3:14Speaker 3: So you score four off Kershaw first ending Game two,
- 3:18Speaker 3: and you're thinking, logan web on the mound. We got this,
- 3:20Speaker 3: But you guys would know. I want to defer to
- 3:22Speaker 3: the catchers. You know, when guys start to get toward
- 3:24Speaker 3: thirty starts a year, did you see a difference in
- 3:27Speaker 3: some of the aces stuff late in the season. Was
- 3:31Speaker 3: it flatter? Were they tired? Because like I'm just a
- 3:34Speaker 3: position player, I wasn't in the squad behind there. Did
- 3:37Speaker 3: you notice the difference of some guys' stuff in their
- 3:40Speaker 3: later starts because you're thinking adrenaline will take you right
- 3:42Speaker 3: now with that atmosphere I'm talking about. But that Dodger lineup,
- 3:46Speaker 3: they don't swing at balls, they swing at strikes. They
- 3:48Speaker 3: make you work, they make you grind. And if you
- 3:51Speaker 3: put free base runners on, which Logan web did, which
- 3:54Speaker 3: Robbie Ray did, that team's going to eat you up.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But I don't know. Guys never liked.
- 3:58Speaker 3: To hear they're tired, Like if you say that on
- 4:00Speaker 3: the air, they're like, I'm not tired.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm fine. But did you guys ever see starters late
- 4:04Speaker 1: in the season get tired starters?
- 4:06Speaker 4: Yes, aces, No, that was one of the traits. Maybe
- 4:10Speaker 4: AJ has a different answer to it. That was one
- 4:13Speaker 4: of the traits where it almost looked like whether they
- 4:16Speaker 4: were tired or not, they were going on a cruise
- 4:18Speaker 4: control and they were like soaring into the end of
- 4:21Speaker 4: the season. And that's like, that's when I think about
- 4:24Speaker 4: an ace, not a number one an ace.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, And obviously you have to turn the page quick, right,
- 4:33Speaker 3: There's no time to sit in the locker room and
- 4:35Speaker 3: go like what happened?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Like you got to turn the page.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Every game is so huge right now, Arizona's only two backs,
- 4:40Speaker 3: so this is a huge series coming up Monday, Tuesday,
- 4:43Speaker 3: Wednesday in Arizona. Then they go back to they go
- 4:45Speaker 3: to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers again. So it's
- 4:47Speaker 3: gonna be a tough road and you just can't you
- 4:50Speaker 3: can't let the vibe in the momentum get derailed by
- 4:53Speaker 3: a couple of a couple of boat race losses. But
- 4:56Speaker 3: I think it'd be tougher if they lost three to
- 4:58Speaker 3: two on both days then getting beat like they did. So,
- 5:01Speaker 3: Like I said, I've never seen a more resilient group.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I've never seen a group play bad baseball for a
- 5:08Speaker 3: good month and a half and then all of a
- 5:10Speaker 3: sudden turn it around and play some of the best
- 5:12Speaker 3: baseball we've ever seen around here in a long time.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Effie, you just mentioned it. It's a huge weekend. It's
- 5:17Speaker 2: a huge series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, two teams very
- 5:20Speaker 2: much clinging to get into that NL West picture as
- 5:22Speaker 2: far as the wildcard race is concerned, when you look
- 5:24Speaker 2: at the Diamondbacks, Zach Gallen obviously going tonight against the
- 5:28Speaker 2: Giants at Chase Field, what do you need to do
- 5:31Speaker 2: against this club to at least take two of three
- 5:34Speaker 2: to continue to force the issue well.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I mean pitching in defense has been the key through
- 5:40Speaker 3: this whole thing, and then you know situational hitting on offense,
- 5:42Speaker 3: which they got away from. They couldn't move a lead
- 5:44Speaker 3: off double, they couldn't pick up a runner from third
- 5:47Speaker 3: with less than two outs.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So just keep playing good baseball.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I think when you talk to a lot of players
- 5:52Speaker 3: that have won championships, they would tell you. And when
- 5:55Speaker 3: I was with Brian Zimmerman and DC, he would say, like,
- 5:57Speaker 3: we're not trying to win tonight. We're just trying to
- 5:59Speaker 3: play good base and if we play good baseball, that'll
- 6:01Speaker 3: take care of itself. So if you put that enormous
- 6:04Speaker 3: amount of pressure that we've come this far and if
- 6:06Speaker 3: we win tonight, we're this. You just got to go
- 6:08Speaker 3: pitch to pitch to ending, try to win every pitch,
- 6:10Speaker 3: try to win every ending, and play good.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Baseball like they have been. They got to Zach Gallon
- 6:15Speaker 1: a little bit last time. But we'll we'll see how this.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We'll see how this matches up.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It's a good place to hit, you guys know that
- 6:21Speaker 3: it's a good place to rake in Arizona. So the
- 6:24Speaker 3: bats have been stymying a little bit the last couple
- 6:26Speaker 3: of days, but you know, they faced some pretty good
- 6:28Speaker 3: Dodger pitching.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Effie, Can they really do this? Because I mean, I mean, honest,
- 6:34Speaker 5: the Giants are a five hundred team for me, They've
- 6:36Speaker 5: been five hundred for the last five hundred games. They're
- 6:38Speaker 5: two fifty and fifty okay, So can they get into
- 6:42Speaker 5: the postseason with where they're at? I know they're a
- 6:45Speaker 5: game game and a halfhind. I always look at the
- 6:46Speaker 5: lost column, as you know, lost column is what really matters.
- 6:49Speaker 5: They're really a game back. But can't are they a
- 6:51Speaker 5: good enough team to And I hate to say this
- 6:54Speaker 5: because but did they deserve to make the playoffs? I
- 6:58Speaker 5: mean as as a team that where they're at right now.
- 7:01Speaker 5: And I know it doesn't matter you're record, but there's
- 7:03Speaker 5: seventy five and seventy four, So if they finished eighty
- 7:06Speaker 5: four and seventy eight, they make the playoffs or Giants
- 7:09Speaker 5: fan's gonna be like, oh, what a hell of a
- 7:11Speaker 5: year and then they losing the Wildcard round to the Dodgers.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I think so based on where they were this year,
- 7:16Speaker 3: and it's not where they are right now or where
- 7:19Speaker 3: their record was. You know, they were seven eight games
- 7:22Speaker 3: out of this thing a few about a month ago,
- 7:25Speaker 3: maybe three weeks ago, and all of a sudden because
- 7:26Speaker 3: the Mets have faltered and they can't win, all of
- 7:29Speaker 3: a sudden, even though they won yesterday, there's excitement in
- 7:32Speaker 3: the fan base, there's excitement around the team, and it's
- 7:35Speaker 3: the system. AJ Like when the third wild card came out,
- 7:38Speaker 3: I was like, well, you know, when I was in Oakland,
- 7:40Speaker 3: we were one hundred and two and sixty and we
- 7:42Speaker 3: were the wildcard when there was only one wildcard because
- 7:45Speaker 3: the Mariners won one hundred and sixteen games. And when
- 7:46Speaker 3: this third wildcard first came out, I was totally against them,
- 7:50Speaker 3: like you're gonna have a five hundred team make the playoffs.
- 7:52Speaker 3: But like when you're in the middle of it and
- 7:54Speaker 3: you were left for dead a couple of months ago
- 7:56Speaker 3: and playing bad baseball, and all of a sudden, you're
- 7:59Speaker 3: playing great baseball.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Have momentum.
- 8:01Speaker 3: You guys both know, it's the team that gets hot
- 8:03Speaker 3: toward the end that wins it. It's not the team.
- 8:05Speaker 3: How many times we've seen a team in one hundred
- 8:07Speaker 3: and seven games and they're out in the first round.
- 8:08Speaker 3: So if they can reload here and stay hot, I
- 8:13Speaker 3: think the records are relevant. Getting into the postseason, you've
- 8:16Speaker 3: got momentum, and then everybody gets tight in those short series,
- 8:19Speaker 3: right the teams that want one hundred bay We've seen
- 8:21Speaker 3: the Dodgers do it. We've seen the Astros do it.
- 8:23Speaker 3: We've seen a lot of teams that have had these
- 8:25Speaker 3: great regular seasons, even the Mariners when they won one
- 8:27Speaker 3: hundred and sixteen games. Anyone in the World Series, it's
- 8:30Speaker 3: always the team that's hot at the end and the
- 8:33Speaker 3: team that's playing playoff games for a month, and then
- 8:35Speaker 3: you just get to the playoffs and it's just another
- 8:37Speaker 3: game because you've been playing, in essence, playoff games to
- 8:39Speaker 3: get into the playoffs, and you've already had these high
- 8:42Speaker 3: pressure situations where your every ground ball, every ball strike,
- 8:46Speaker 3: just like the playoffs.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And you get in there and you just keep doing
- 8:48Speaker 1: what you're doing.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And maybe the teams that have cruised and have won,
- 8:53Speaker 3: they take a deep breath, they start to go spring
- 8:55Speaker 3: training mode, and then all of a sudden, you get
- 8:57Speaker 3: those days off and you've got to gear up in
- 8:58Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Just not there.
- 9:00Speaker 3: So yeah, I honestly, aj, I get your point that,
- 9:04Speaker 3: like now we're having five hundred teams to get to
- 9:06Speaker 3: the playoffs. But I just think it's how you're playing
- 9:09Speaker 3: late that matters most that not the actual overall record.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Crats.
- 9:15Speaker 6: I'm gonna steal a line right from the top here
- 9:17Speaker 6: about me Undies, a cut for every butt. I took
- 9:22Speaker 6: a line that I feel like you would enjoy, but
- 9:24Speaker 6: then you stole my thunder with show and tell. What
- 9:27Speaker 6: do you have there.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Besides a huge Baduka dunk. This is my pair of
- 9:33Speaker 4: Meundies that I got. I'm not going to show you
- 9:35Speaker 4: the other pair right now because I got them on,
- 9:37Speaker 4: but it doesn't even feel like you have them on.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Super soft, flexible and yet holding everything together.
- 9:45Speaker 6: I love the twenty different styles, one hundred different colors
- 9:48Speaker 6: and prints, and the micro modal fabric is what you're
- 9:52Speaker 6: talking about. Breathable, stretchy, unbelievably cozy and right now, as
- 9:57Speaker 6: a listener of FT, you can get cozy and spoof
- 10:00Speaker 6: for less with deals up to fifty percent off at
- 10:02Speaker 6: me undies dot com. Slash foul and enter promo code foul.
- 10:06Speaker 6: That's me undies dot Com slash foul. Promo code foul
- 10:09Speaker 6: for up to fifty percent off me Undie's Comfort. That's
- 10:13Speaker 6: made for fall.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Did they sell too soon? I know this is the
- 10:17Speaker 4: you can't you can't question Buster Posey because Buster walks
- 10:20Speaker 4: on water. But that's the reality of the situation. Did
- 10:24Speaker 4: they sell too soon? Could they have used a closer
- 10:28Speaker 4: while Walker's done great? And Duvall was you know, up
- 10:31Speaker 4: and down, good bad? Who knows what you're gonna get?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Did they sell too soon?
- 10:37Speaker 3: I would say no, because they've played better after the
- 10:39Speaker 3: trade deadline. I mean, so how can you argue with
- 10:43Speaker 3: the moves that were made and it you know, Jordan
- 10:45Speaker 3: Hicks hasn't done well in Boston and Kyle Harrison just
- 10:48Speaker 3: got called up the other day, and you look at
- 10:51Speaker 3: you know, the trade for Bhuteaux for Tyler Rodgers, that
- 10:54Speaker 3: straight up was a good trade. Then you get Dude
- 10:56Speaker 3: Gilbert on top of it from the Mets, who's trying
- 10:58Speaker 3: to chase the Mets.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the back of.
- 11:02Speaker 3: The bullpen has been you know, young guys in big
- 11:04Speaker 3: roles and sometimes you know, you look at Duran in Philadelphia.
- 11:08Speaker 1: That's why I think they're the best team in baseball.
- 11:10Speaker 3: You guys know that the closer that comes in and
- 11:12Speaker 3: it's just one, two, three every time. That's such a
- 11:15Speaker 3: luxury to have, especially in October. But Ryan Walker has
- 11:19Speaker 3: been better lately. He had he had a hiccup in
- 11:21Speaker 3: Saint Louis where he had a two to nothing lead
- 11:23Speaker 3: and it was three to two before we could all
- 11:24Speaker 3: blink an eye.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But he was good the other night.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And like I said, they're just piecing it together right
- 11:30Speaker 3: now at the back end of the bullpen. But as
- 11:34Speaker 3: far as selling too early, I think you know, the
- 11:37Speaker 3: Dever's trade was way before the trade deadline, and when
- 11:40Speaker 3: you look at that trade and what they gave up
- 11:41Speaker 3: for Raffie Devers, and I know it didn't start out
- 11:43Speaker 3: all great, but you know, baseball players are human. There's
- 11:45Speaker 3: adjustments coming to the West Coast, new team, new fan base.
- 11:48Speaker 3: You still got drama back in Boston. Second team you
- 11:51Speaker 3: play is a Red Sox. You're learning a new position.
- 11:53Speaker 3: It takes time to adjust when you're a new player
- 11:56Speaker 3: in a new city and you've been with one city
- 11:58Speaker 3: your whole career, and all of a sudden, he's been
- 12:00Speaker 3: contributing big time and he's the Raffie Devers that the
- 12:03Speaker 3: Giants thought they were getting.
- 12:04Speaker 2: That's exactly what I was going to ask you FP.
- 12:06Speaker 2: What has the Dever's effect been in San Francisco, and
- 12:10Speaker 2: I probably think the Red Sox would like to send
- 12:12Speaker 2: Jordan Hicks back to you guys, what's it been like
- 12:14Speaker 2: Kevin Raffie there.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It's been great. Man. He's so nice to be around
- 12:19Speaker 1: every day. He's always got a smile on his face.
- 12:21Speaker 3: It kills me that he gets a bad rap and
- 12:24Speaker 3: that he has gotten a bad rap. And I know,
- 12:26Speaker 3: as players, you know you're supposed to play wherever they
- 12:28Speaker 3: want you, but there's ways to handle that with superstar players.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Right when you got a guy that's the face of
- 12:34Speaker 3: the franchise and all of a sudden you ambush him,
- 12:36Speaker 3: maybe you take him out to dinner and have a
- 12:38Speaker 3: bottle of wine in a casual setting and tell them, hey,
- 12:41Speaker 3: for us to get to the World series this, we're
- 12:44Speaker 3: thinking about doing this, and then all of a sudden
- 12:46Speaker 3: that things has a different ending. But I'm kind of
- 12:48Speaker 3: glad how it panned out because it's fun to watch
- 12:50Speaker 3: him play every day.
- 12:51Speaker 1: He's the only hitter you guys in recent.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Memory that every time he comes up when I'm doing
- 12:57Speaker 3: a game, I think he's going deep, Like his swing
- 12:59Speaker 3: is so violent, and it's just it's unfair expectations. But
- 13:03Speaker 3: we all think it when he comes up that he's
- 13:05Speaker 3: going to hit a tape measure shot. It hasn't happened
- 13:07Speaker 3: recently for him, but man, he's such a threat in
- 13:10Speaker 3: the lineup. But I think he's the first real threat
- 13:12Speaker 3: offensively that the Giants have had since Barry Bonds.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Maybe, and that could be a bold statement, but yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 3: And he's been a pleasure to be around. The guys
- 13:20Speaker 3: love him. They're joking with him every day. He has
- 13:23Speaker 3: a fantasy football team and he knows nothing about football.
- 13:25Speaker 3: I mean, he's just he's part of it right now.
- 13:28Speaker 3: And the guys love him. Drew Gilbert talks about him
- 13:31Speaker 3: every single day and what a great teammate he is.
- 13:34Speaker 3: In the times I've been around him, he's just smiling
- 13:36Speaker 3: all the time and he's a fun.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Guy to be around.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Rarely can you you can trade let alone at the
- 13:42Speaker 4: trade deadline, but in May or June for a superstar
- 13:46Speaker 4: bat And so hats off to br to Buster for
- 13:50Speaker 4: getting RAFFI like that. Rarely can you with thirteen games left,
- 13:54Speaker 4: call up a six, seven, two and forty pound back
- 13:57Speaker 4: to back twenty three home run league seasons. You know,
- 14:02Speaker 4: super prospect. What outside of San Francisco, because San Francisco,
- 14:06Speaker 4: even maybe even all of California knows about Bryce Eldred,
- 14:11Speaker 4: But the Giants calling him up at this point, what
- 14:14Speaker 4: can national fans expect to see besides an Aaron Judge
- 14:19Speaker 4: type of hulking figure in the box.
- 14:22Speaker 1: From the left side too.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I think you know you know who, like the sneaky
- 14:27Speaker 3: guy that I've left out and all this is Dom Smith.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Like I didn't know Dom Smith was gold Glove quality
- 14:31Speaker 3: at first base, and a lot of people with the
- 14:33Speaker 3: Giants that our broadcast team were like, we feel bad.
- 14:36Speaker 1: We didn't know he's as good.
- 14:37Speaker 3: And then he gives you a grade at bat he's sitting,
- 14:39Speaker 3: I don't know, around two seventy. He has two strike
- 14:42Speaker 3: adjustments where he chokes up, spreads out, and just puts
- 14:44Speaker 3: the ball in play. He has been one of the
- 14:47Speaker 3: most valuable players for this team since the Giants got him.
- 14:50Speaker 3: So he stretches for that ball from Chapman the other
- 14:52Speaker 3: night and blows out, and it's going to be like,
- 14:54Speaker 3: I think it's a Grade two Hammy. Don't quote me
- 14:57Speaker 3: on that, but it's gonna be a couple of weeks
- 14:58Speaker 3: and there's only a couple of weeks left in the season,
- 15:00Speaker 3: so you have a deficiency from the left side, and
- 15:04Speaker 3: you know Wilmer's not going to do it every day,
- 15:06Speaker 3: and you need a left handed bat. And I don't know,
- 15:09Speaker 3: man in a pennant race against the Dodgers coming up
- 15:12Speaker 3: in Dodger Stadium.
- 15:12Speaker 1: But this kid's supposed to be mature beyond his years.
- 15:15Speaker 3: And I just watched the videos like you guys do
- 15:18Speaker 3: on the Internet of his opposite field home. He's pulled
- 15:20Speaker 3: a pole line to line with just Opo Pop and
- 15:23Speaker 3: he's sitting mammoth tanks.
- 15:25Speaker 1: In triple A. The one thing he has to like.
- 15:28Speaker 3: And I'm sure he'll be told this by Bob Melvin
- 15:30Speaker 3: is like, Hey, this isn't all on you, dude. We
- 15:32Speaker 3: just want you to do your thing. He wants you
- 15:34Speaker 3: to play. But I don't know about the fan base.
- 15:36Speaker 3: The fan base is probably thinking, come on, Bryce, we're
- 15:39Speaker 3: getting the playoffs because of you. And I hope he
- 15:41Speaker 3: doesn't put that kind of pressure on himself. But he's
- 15:43Speaker 3: supposed to be real mature. He's probably gonna dh I
- 15:46Speaker 3: haven't watched him play first base. JT Snow, who's a
- 15:49Speaker 3: good friend of mine has gone down there and worked
- 15:51Speaker 3: with him in Triple A and said he's getting better
- 15:53Speaker 3: at first base. But this was a guy growing up
- 15:56Speaker 3: that just pitched in DH. He never really played a position.
- 16:00Speaker 3: So I would imagine, and I don't know anything, that
- 16:02Speaker 3: the Giants are probably just going to have him DH
- 16:04Speaker 3: against right handers and let him do his thing and
- 16:06Speaker 3: hopefully he doesn't put too much pressure on himself and
- 16:08Speaker 3: just plays baseball.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Effie, what about the dirt? What's going on with the dirt?
- 16:13Speaker 5: And just listen, by the way, just for Alana's we
- 16:16Speaker 5: can I play for the Giants too.
- 16:20Speaker 1: But Alana's disgusting with me right now with all the
- 16:24Speaker 1: orangin But I know, I.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Know she hates me now because I have a Giants
- 16:27Speaker 5: babble hit him? Oh good, Well, what's going on with
- 16:32Speaker 5: the dirt at third base? Matt Chavit's calling out the
- 16:34Speaker 5: groundskeeper and he's I mean, does he not know how
- 16:36Speaker 5: to slide?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Because he keeps getting like these holes in his hand?
- 16:39Speaker 5: What the heck is going on with the dirt over there?
- 16:41Speaker 5: I always thought San Francisco, heck, anywhere in California, the
- 16:44Speaker 5: field was always perfect.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Yeah, man, every time he dives, he's got these like
- 16:49Speaker 3: quarter scabs on both hands. The other night he dove
- 16:52Speaker 3: for a ball and he was like patting his pants
- 16:55Speaker 3: with it, AJ and there's blood all over his pants.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And this has happened like six or seven times to
- 16:59Speaker 3: him this year. And it's always at home. And I
- 17:02Speaker 3: don't know anything about being a groundskeeper. It looks like
- 17:05Speaker 3: one of the better playing surfaces in all of baseball.
- 17:07Speaker 3: But when your third basement's a platinum glover and one
- 17:11Speaker 3: of the best defenders in all of baseball in any position,
- 17:13Speaker 3: and he's I mean, like, I don't want to get
- 17:16Speaker 3: in the middle of any controversy, but you shouldn't.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You shouldn't cut your hands.
- 17:21Speaker 3: At the big leagues when you dive, right, that's like
- 17:23Speaker 3: a ball, or maybe even in like Legion ball, when
- 17:26Speaker 3: you're playing on tough fields that I don't know. I
- 17:28Speaker 3: never dove and broke my hands open consistently on dirt.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And I do some fantasy batting practice.
- 17:34Speaker 3: This is there in the mornings where I say, a
- 17:36Speaker 3: corporational buyout Oracle Park and we put a pitching machine
- 17:38Speaker 3: on the mound and everybody takes batting practice, and you
- 17:41Speaker 3: know the old washed up giants go out there in
- 17:43Speaker 3: the uniforms and we shag with them.
- 17:45Speaker 1: The field seems sometimes at a little bit hard.
- 17:49Speaker 3: And I know that they've had concerts and they've had
- 17:52Speaker 3: soccer games, but yesterday they poured a bunch more dirt
- 17:55Speaker 3: on there. I guess there's something called conditioner with the
- 17:57Speaker 3: dirt if you see Susan Sluster's article in the chronicle,
- 18:00Speaker 3: And they tried to like put softer dirt on there.
- 18:03Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean obviously was frustrated enough to go
- 18:07Speaker 3: public with it. And you know, when a platinum glover speaks,
- 18:10Speaker 3: I think you got to listen right.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 5: By the way, I want you to look at my hands.
- 18:14Speaker 5: See there's no there's nothing but was a handmade scar.
- 18:16Speaker 5: But there's no other holes because I wouldn't fast enough
- 18:18Speaker 5: to dive, so I always had a slight fee first.
- 18:20Speaker 5: So I don't even know how this would where this
- 18:22Speaker 5: would come from. Plus I had never played the infield,
- 18:25Speaker 5: but I don't know, I've never seen I've never heard
- 18:27Speaker 5: of this, And I mean again, I played there was
- 18:29Speaker 5: a long time ago, but I always thought the grounds
- 18:32Speaker 5: were wet and moist and just the way most guys
- 18:35Speaker 5: like it.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, well, apparently, according to Matt, it's not that way
- 18:40Speaker 3: we used to get those.
- 18:42Speaker 1: We used to get those in Montreal on the turf, right.
- 18:44Speaker 3: You go flying for a ball in the gap in
- 18:45Speaker 3: the late and then you get the turf burns on
- 18:48Speaker 3: your hands where it's like blisters and your elbows are scraped,
- 18:51Speaker 3: and then you know everyone's been spitting tobacco juice on
- 18:54Speaker 3: the turf, and you got to worry about staff infection.
- 18:56Speaker 1: You go on the trainer, which scat.
- 19:00Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, yeah, this is out of nowhere.
- 19:03Speaker 3: But I can't swear on this because I was told
- 19:06Speaker 3: not to. But he dove for that ball the other
- 19:08Speaker 3: night and they zoomed in on his face and he said, unffing,
- 19:11Speaker 3: believable and while he was looking at both of his hands.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So obviously this frustrated him enough that he felt like,
- 19:17Speaker 3: you know, he need to open up about it. But
- 19:19Speaker 3: there's only like six home games left.
- 19:21Speaker 2: He'll be all right, Well, let's get some shag carpet
- 19:24Speaker 2: out there over my third base. Let me ask you
- 19:26Speaker 2: this before I let you go there. FP is Buster
- 19:30Speaker 2: in the clubhouse a lot?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Is he?
- 19:33Speaker 2: Is he more of a president of baseball ops? Or
- 19:36Speaker 2: is he a guy that is not that far removed
- 19:41Speaker 2: from being behind the plate.
- 19:43Speaker 1: No, he's there. He goes on road trips. I think
- 19:46Speaker 1: he's in the dugout for batting practice.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I'm not sure about the clubhouse thing, because you know,
- 19:50Speaker 3: I get there on the lazy bus at four o'clock
- 19:52Speaker 3: with the broadcasters. But he used to call everybody out.
- 19:56Speaker 3: He said, oh, lazy buses here when the four o'clock
- 19:58Speaker 3: bus and players got off it. But that's the broadcaster bus, right.
- 20:02Speaker 3: But you know, I've wrote in with him a couple
- 20:04Speaker 3: of times. He's around man, and I think that's really cool.
- 20:07Speaker 3: And he showed face when the team was playing poorly.
- 20:10Speaker 3: You know, you could just you know, you could just
- 20:13Speaker 3: hide when the team's playing bad. But he's been there,
- 20:15Speaker 3: he's talking to guys. He's really involved. And this isn't
- 20:18Speaker 3: me just kissing Buster Posey's ass. Like the first year
- 20:21Speaker 3: as a as a president of Baseball Operations, he's done
- 20:24Speaker 3: a really good job of just sitting back watching everything unfold,
- 20:29Speaker 3: taking notes, being very humble, asking questions, trying to learn.
- 20:33Speaker 3: And I would think after this year, you know he's
- 20:37Speaker 3: done his homework. But if you come in as a
- 20:39Speaker 3: new president Baseball operations, and you're firing this guy and
- 20:42Speaker 3: DFA and this guy and the music and then this
- 20:45Speaker 3: and you're changing everything now all of a sudden, you know,
- 20:48Speaker 3: that's not good leadership. But the trades that he's done,
- 20:51Speaker 3: signing Raffie Devers, when you talk about, you know, getting
- 20:54Speaker 3: the two guys from the Mets and then the kid
- 20:56Speaker 3: in Triple A, that's supposed to be good. It's arms
- 20:57Speaker 3: parking right now. And the catcher they got for Camilo
- 21:00Speaker 3: d'aval and Triple A is supposed to be really good too.
- 21:03Speaker 3: So all in all, the way he's handled everything and
- 21:06Speaker 3: the way he's been present when things aren't going well
- 21:09Speaker 3: and not like a front runner will almost say you're
- 21:10Speaker 3: playing well, like here I am. And he's had conversations
- 21:13Speaker 3: with coaches and players, he's involved just the right amount
- 21:17Speaker 3: and he's really learning on the job and learning on
- 21:19Speaker 3: the fly.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And to me, that's what good leadership is be.
- 21:23Speaker 5: How much weight is he lost? Because I saw him
- 21:25Speaker 5: this year he looks like he never played baseball. I'm like, Buster,
- 21:28Speaker 5: you've lost what happened? He's lost like twenty thirty pounds
- 21:34Speaker 5: from not playing. He looks amazing me. I was like, whoa.
- 21:38Speaker 5: I'm like, is this what being in the front office
- 21:40Speaker 5: does to you?
- 21:41Speaker 4: Sign me up.
- 21:42Speaker 3: No, he was like that before he became president of
- 21:45Speaker 3: Baseball Ops. Him and Barry they're reverse aging. Every time
- 21:49Speaker 3: you see him. They look younger, very skinny too.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Have fun with that. I love Barry. Listen, I love Barry.
- 21:55Speaker 5: So I have no Look look what else I have here?
- 21:58Speaker 5: Just for a lont I have a Barry. I hit
- 22:02Speaker 5: a lot of homers off you in your Dodger's territory.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Hut.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Dude.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Barry was in the cage the other day and Joe Montana,
- 22:09Speaker 3: Joe Montana was coming to the field, and he's like my.
- 22:12Speaker 1: All time hero, favorite athlete.
- 22:14Speaker 3: My daughter's name is Summer Joe Santangelo after Joe Montana.
- 22:17Speaker 3: And so I've never met him. I've interviewed him on
- 22:19Speaker 3: cambr before, but I've never met him. So I was like, dude,
- 22:22Speaker 3: I fanboyd so hard. And so I told Barry he
- 22:25Speaker 3: was coming, and Barry called Joe Montana and they were
- 22:27Speaker 3: talking right in front of me about oh, you didn't
- 22:29Speaker 3: tell me you were coming today, blah blah blah, and
- 22:31Speaker 3: then they hung up, and I'm like, that was like
- 22:34Speaker 3: such a power call, Barry Bonds talking to Joe Montana
- 22:37Speaker 3: right in front of me, and then I finally met
- 22:40Speaker 3: him before the game, and I think I blacked out
- 22:41Speaker 3: and said something stupid.
- 22:42Speaker 1: But it was really cool.
- 22:44Speaker 3: It was really cool to me my hero and my
- 22:46Speaker 3: favorite athlete ever this weekend and he was at the ballpark.
- 22:48Speaker 2: So that is very very cool. Who's your Who's the
- 22:52Speaker 2: coolest person in your phone?
- 22:54Speaker 1: FP?
- 22:54Speaker 2: It's obviously not Joe Montana.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I would say Barry probably, I guess. I mean I
- 23:01Speaker 3: could maybe, yeah, maybe a Supreme Court justice. But you know,
- 23:07Speaker 3: when you're in DC, you meet all the politicians and
- 23:10Speaker 3: all that stuff too, So yes, yes.
- 23:12Speaker 1: So f be good luck.
- 23:13Speaker 2: It'll be interesting to see if the Giants can make
- 23:15Speaker 2: this run get into the postseason. We appreciate the information
- 23:19Speaker 2: as much as you're a Giant fan, my friend, I
- 23:21Speaker 2: still like you appreciate it.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Thank you, guys. Thanks for happing me on.
- 23:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna wear I'm gonna eye black next time, and
- 23:27Speaker 3: I'll be all set.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It has to be backwards hat.
- 23:29Speaker 2: In order to be on the show, you have to
- 23:31Speaker 2: have the backwards hat.
- 23:32Speaker 1: All right, I'll see you guys, care Thanks for happing on.
