- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome the Money and Wealth with John Hobryant, a production
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the Black Effect Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Yo, Yo Yo.
- 0:15Speaker 1: This is John Hope Bryant, and this is Money and
- 0:18Speaker 1: Wealth on the Black Effect Network on iHeartRadio. This is
- 0:23Speaker 1: season two and this is a special bonus episode that
- 0:27Speaker 1: I really thought I would never do, in part because well,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I was just wrong. I assumed you knew all this
- 0:36Speaker 1: stuff about Operation Hope, and I don't know where I
- 0:39Speaker 1: got that from. I don't know why I would have
- 0:41Speaker 1: assumed that you would know all that Operation Hope does.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I've never taken the time to actually unpack and explain
- 0:48Speaker 1: it to you. I just assumed, because you know me,
- 0:51Speaker 1: you know it. And for that I'm wrong. Because when
- 0:54Speaker 1: you assume, you make an ass you and me. It's
- 0:58Speaker 1: literally what it's spells out. And so you should never
- 1:02Speaker 1: assume anything. And I tell people that all the time,
- 1:04Speaker 1: but I didn't practice what I preached, So for that
- 1:06Speaker 1: I apologize. So today we're going to well set the
- 1:11Speaker 1: record straight and we're going to get on a whole
- 1:14Speaker 1: new trajectory here by breaking down the tools and shovels
- 1:18Speaker 1: of Operation Hope, because really, the world owes you an apology.
- 1:23Speaker 1: People will say often I hear them say I hate
- 1:27Speaker 1: capitalism or I hate I hate rich people. And my
- 1:31Speaker 1: response often is, well, no, you don't. You hate rich
- 1:37Speaker 1: people until you become rich. What you hate is a
- 1:41Speaker 1: game system. What you hate is a system that is
- 1:46Speaker 1: seems to be somehow rigged against you. That know how,
- 1:49Speaker 1: no matter how hard you work, no matter what you do,
- 1:53Speaker 1: you can't seem to get ahead. You've got too much
- 1:55Speaker 1: month at the end of your money, can I get
- 1:58Speaker 1: an amen? So it's not you. The system is sort
- 2:03Speaker 1: of rigged against you because you never got the Memo
- 2:07Speaker 1: that was my fourth book. I also assume you read
- 2:10Speaker 1: all my books. By the way, there was Banking Our Future,
- 2:13Speaker 1: there's Love Leadership, There's How the porkin Save Capitalism a bestseller,
- 2:18Speaker 1: There is the Memo bestseller. There's Up from Nothing that
- 2:22Speaker 1: was a bestseller, and then the sort of the rocket
- 2:25Speaker 1: ship bestseller. The one that's out now is Financial Literacy
- 2:29Speaker 1: for All, which has been a bestseller for going on
- 2:33Speaker 1: fifteen months now on hardcover and now paper books, paperback,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and you get it at Walmart or Amazon, or you're
- 2:44Speaker 1: a local bookstore, your local bookstore. If you could give
- 2:48Speaker 1: a black bookstore, you neighborhood, you should support it. By
- 2:50Speaker 1: the way, if you if you know a person of color,
- 2:52Speaker 1: or a woman's own store, a minority a small business bookstore,
- 2:58Speaker 1: you should support it. So anyway that I've outlined this
- 3:02Speaker 1: and unpacked sort of the how to of how we
- 3:05Speaker 1: got here in my books, I've described how we never
- 3:09Speaker 1: got the memo, why in many ways we make assumptions
- 3:15Speaker 1: about this. That is what we don't know. That we
- 3:19Speaker 1: don't know this killing is what we think we know.
- 3:21Speaker 1: We assume that we've got the memo. We assume that
- 3:23Speaker 1: we understand how the system works. We shouldn't assume anything. Again,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I've the society assumes that about us, and I assumed,
- 3:33Speaker 1: by the way, as I said earlier, that you knew
- 3:35Speaker 1: all about Operation Hope. Both of those things are wrong
- 3:38Speaker 1: and you should not feel ashamed. As I keep saying
- 3:42Speaker 1: in this podcast episode in series over the last two years,
- 3:47Speaker 1: you should not be ashamed because it's because you don't know.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's what you don't know. That you don't know this
- 3:53Speaker 1: killing you. But you think you know, but no one
- 3:55Speaker 1: ever taught you to know better. If you knew better,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you do better. How do I know that because as
- 4:00Speaker 1: you've already proven it were, the rules are published, and
- 4:02Speaker 1: the plainfielder's level, you kill it, you succeed. Let's give
- 4:08Speaker 1: some examples the arts, professional sports, faith, politics. The rules
- 4:17Speaker 1: are published, the plainfool's level, you killed it, you succeeded. Now,
- 4:23Speaker 1: about six thousand years ago, we had a choice to make,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and for a range of reasons, our season was culture.
- 4:33Speaker 1: We decided to become an expert in culture, and that
- 4:38Speaker 1: became the definition of cool. And we are the definition
- 4:41Speaker 1: of cool all around the world. Well, our mainstream friends,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and this includes our Jewish brothers and sisters, by the way,
- 4:50Speaker 1: kudos on them. They decided to major in capitalism, and
- 4:56Speaker 1: so you have commerce and capitalists on the on the
- 4:58Speaker 1: on the one side, and commerce and kosher and cool
- 5:01Speaker 1: on the other. They're all good. None of this is
- 5:04Speaker 1: bad stuff. They're good in different ways. But the problem
- 5:07Speaker 1: is that if you're rocking the mic but you don't
- 5:10Speaker 1: own the stage, then you're renting your future. If you're
- 5:14Speaker 1: rocking the mic but you don't own the stage, right,
- 5:18Speaker 1: then you're renting your future. And that has been the
- 5:21Speaker 1: storyline of all these achievers who confuse making money with
- 5:27Speaker 1: building wealth. You make money. During the day you build
- 5:29Speaker 1: wealth and your sleep. Because again, no one taught us
- 5:31Speaker 1: how this system works. No one taught us this game
- 5:33Speaker 1: of capitalism. So we are about getting that ball to
- 5:36Speaker 1: get that dollar, getting that bag, getting that cash, getting paid. Okay, great,
- 5:40Speaker 1: that's called a contract an opportunity, and you mayet rich
- 5:43Speaker 1: for a moment, but you won't be wealthy. And if
- 5:46Speaker 1: your outfloaks is your inflows and your overhead, it will
- 5:48Speaker 1: be your downfall. So if you're making money, I don't
- 5:51Speaker 1: care how much money you make, how little or much
- 5:54Speaker 1: you make. If the income stops because the contract or
- 5:59Speaker 1: the agreement stops and your expenses continue and you don't
- 6:02Speaker 1: have something offsetting that, which is a level of wealth
- 6:05Speaker 1: you've been able to create, then you're going to go
- 6:08Speaker 1: broke slowly, or in some cases, when it's a lot
- 6:12Speaker 1: of money, you'll go broke very fast and very in
- 6:15Speaker 1: a spectacular fashion. So there's nothing wrong with us. We're
- 6:18Speaker 1: not dumb, we're not stupid. We have too much month
- 6:23Speaker 1: at the end of our money. Seventy percent of this
- 6:25Speaker 1: country is living from patrick to paycheck as everybody but
- 6:28Speaker 1: half of black folks have a credit score below six
- 6:30Speaker 1: to twenty we're the lowest in the country on average.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And again we're not dumb and we're not stupid. We
- 6:35Speaker 1: were enslaved on American soil. It was illegal to teach
- 6:38Speaker 1: us how to teach us how to read. Forget teaching
- 6:40Speaker 1: uspential literacy, that was a big no no. And capitalism,
- 6:44Speaker 1: forget about it altogether. We were, in fact we were
- 6:47Speaker 1: capital So I don't want you, I want you. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: don't want you thinking there's something wrong with why you
- 6:53Speaker 1: don't know this, and I don't want you ashamed to
- 6:55Speaker 1: have these conversations. And that is in part why I'm
- 6:58Speaker 1: doing this episode because not only do I want to
- 7:01Speaker 1: inspire you with the lessons every week about how the
- 7:03Speaker 1: systems work U and I want you to master the system.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Don't be upset by it, because once you understand the rules,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think that you will kill it. In this area
- 7:13Speaker 1: as well. I mean I joked that black folks you know,
- 7:17Speaker 1: found tennis and killed it. The Williams sisters we found
- 7:21Speaker 1: f one racing you know, Lewis Hamilton and killed it. Right,
- 7:26Speaker 1: We found uh, you know, soccer killed it. All these
- 7:31Speaker 1: areas where we golf, you know, Tiger Woods. We're not
- 7:35Speaker 1: normally at we've found these areas. We figured out the
- 7:37Speaker 1: rules of engagement and playing the rules, playing by the rules.
- 7:42Speaker 1: We killed it. And you're now seeing blacks and NASCAR racing.
- 7:46Speaker 1: You're seeing black Okay, So we can. We've proved we
- 7:49Speaker 1: can do it this success thing everywhere. Why couldn't we
- 7:54Speaker 1: do it in capitalism and free enterprise. It makes no
- 7:56Speaker 1: sense that we cannot. It makes every sense that we can.
- 8:00Speaker 1: That's the system that I want to teach you. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: also want to create a network of resources and services
- 8:09Speaker 1: and programs to help you, not giving you a handout,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but a hand up. And by the way, our service
- 8:14Speaker 1: is available to everybody, black, white, red, brown, and yellow.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm going to show you how to produce some green.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Whether you're black and brown urban or your poor, white
- 8:22Speaker 1: and rural and you live in a five under credit
- 8:24Speaker 1: cord neighborhood, you've got the same problem. You have a
- 8:27Speaker 1: check casher next to a patio on lender, next to
- 8:29Speaker 1: a render owned store, next to a title lender, next
- 8:32Speaker 1: to a liquor store, next to a pawn shop, right
- 8:35Speaker 1: and a church down the street. Trying to make you
- 8:37Speaker 1: feel a little bit better. Once a week you had
- 8:39Speaker 1: the military. You're the military installation, a military base. All
- 8:43Speaker 1: these predators are right there at the gates of the
- 8:46Speaker 1: military base waiting for you to come out, because they realize,
- 8:49Speaker 1: they know, they realize, they know, they're hoping you don't
- 8:53Speaker 1: realize that you cannot have defaults on your financial picture
- 8:59Speaker 1: if you want to keep your military credentials and your
- 9:01Speaker 1: security clearances. So they are going to do They know
- 9:05Speaker 1: you're going to do anything you can't have to to
- 9:06Speaker 1: clear up your debts, and they're going to try to
- 9:08Speaker 1: help clear out your pockets as you're doing that. So
- 9:12Speaker 1: we're all in this thing together. I believe that the
- 9:17Speaker 1: new movements in the suites, not the streets. The work
- 9:21Speaker 1: in the streets continues. Civil rights, as we can see
- 9:25Speaker 1: clearly now, is still very much needed. But civil rights
- 9:29Speaker 1: has to have a partner, and now believe that civil
- 9:31Speaker 1: rights si l v Er I believe the work in
- 9:36Speaker 1: the streets have to now move to the suites. A
- 9:38Speaker 1: protesting has to transition to partnership. That we've got to
- 9:42Speaker 1: go from just cashing a check to writing them this
- 9:47Speaker 1: and we've got to not just focus on red rooms,
- 9:50Speaker 1: which are rooms designed to stop discrimination, racism, biased, all
- 9:55Speaker 1: the bad things, but to point toward and hope, open
- 9:59Speaker 1: up and support and encourage and develop new green rooms, internships, apprenticeships,
- 10:07Speaker 1: places to create enterprise and entrepreneurship, places of education that
- 10:14Speaker 1: connects education with aspiration, giving people the tools and the
- 10:18Speaker 1: shovels to come up from nothing. You can't bootstrap yourself
- 10:23Speaker 1: if you don't have shoelaces. We want to give you
- 10:25Speaker 1: those shoelaces so that you can add to the American tapestry,
- 10:28Speaker 1: so you can complete the American dream. I believe this
- 10:30Speaker 1: is a third reconstruction. The first reconstruction was freedom Civil
- 10:33Speaker 1: War right after it, Frederick Douglas's Abraham Lincoln, etc. All
- 10:38Speaker 1: of the heroes and heroes of that era. Second reconstruction
- 10:42Speaker 1: civil Rights movement, Doctor Martin la King Jr. My mentor hero,
- 10:46Speaker 1: Andrew Young. Bastard Andrew Young, who's a global spokesman of
- 10:49Speaker 1: Operation Hope and the man who created effectively the only
- 10:53Speaker 1: international city in the South, which is a tenth lars
- 10:55Speaker 1: economy in the country, which is built on diversity and inclusion, Atlanta, Georgia.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And we're Operation to Hope in my company's Brian Group Companies,
- 11:03Speaker 1: Brian Group Ventures, etc. Are headquarters and then the promise
- 11:07Speaker 1: and the promise of the future, I believe is this
- 11:10Speaker 1: third reconstruction that we're in now, which is about moving
- 11:13Speaker 1: you from the streets to the suites, expanding the table,
- 11:16Speaker 1: adding a chair, including yourself in it as opportunity, growing
- 11:19Speaker 1: GDP for all of us in new colors, not black
- 11:22Speaker 1: or white as in race, or red or blue as
- 11:25Speaker 1: in politics that define the first and second reconstructions. This
- 11:28Speaker 1: third one, I believe the color is green. Where we
- 11:31Speaker 1: go from a history of bad capitalism, slavery being a
- 11:34Speaker 1: really good, bad example of that, to a history of
- 11:37Speaker 1: good capitalism where bad capitalism is where I benefit and
- 11:41Speaker 1: you benefit. Sorry, I benefit and you pay a price
- 11:43Speaker 1: for it, and good capitalism is where I benefit and
- 11:46Speaker 1: you benefit more. Can I get an amen? So we
- 11:49Speaker 1: can do well and do good too? Right, we can
- 11:51Speaker 1: have the system of good capitalism, but you've got to
- 11:53Speaker 1: understand the rules of the game. Somebody's got to give
- 11:55Speaker 1: you the memo, somebody's got to lay the framework out
- 11:57Speaker 1: for you. And beyond that education and an aspiration, you
- 12:00Speaker 1: need tool services in a platform. So when I said
- 12:03Speaker 1: I want to become the federal Reserve of the hood,
- 12:05Speaker 1: that was all disrespect to the Federal Reserve. I think
- 12:09Speaker 1: the Federal Reserve is fantastic, and it's not it's not
- 12:13Speaker 1: lacking in any way. It's a standard, a ghost standard
- 12:16Speaker 1: for the world, no pun intended, good standard. But there
- 12:20Speaker 1: is another America that that seemed to can't even get
- 12:24Speaker 1: to the benefits of the Federal Reserve because they live
- 12:27Speaker 1: in another hood. They've been left behind by the neighborhood,
- 12:32Speaker 1: by the systems. You're not broken, the system is. And
- 12:36Speaker 1: so I decided to create economic plumbing for underserved America.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That is a vision of Operation Hope. So if you're
- 12:45Speaker 1: looking at this on your video feed, or you're listening
- 12:51Speaker 1: to this on your podcast network, you're going you're you're
- 12:54Speaker 1: listening to this on your way to work, or you're jogging,
- 12:57Speaker 1: or you're cooking, or you're with the girl or your buddies,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and you don't have a lot of time, or you
- 13:04Speaker 1: want to send this to somebody else and they have
- 13:06Speaker 1: short periods of time, tell them to go to the
- 13:07Speaker 1: minute thirteen. And that's where John Briant goes in on
- 13:11Speaker 1: the what, because when you finish this podcast, I want
- 13:15Speaker 1: you to have the tools and the shovels you need
- 13:18Speaker 1: to literally empower your life with the information that I'm
- 13:21Speaker 1: giving you. So I'm going to punch through this pretty
- 13:23Speaker 1: quickly because you're really smart and you don't need to
- 13:25Speaker 1: handhold you. So we're not just helping people. We're rebuilding
- 13:31Speaker 1: the operating system of American capitalism, inclusive economics. I call
- 13:36Speaker 1: it inclusive capitalism. I call it. It is expanding the
- 13:42Speaker 1: lens of free enterprise. It is, to quote my friend
- 13:45Speaker 1: Stephanie Rule, expanding the table and adding a chair. So
- 13:49Speaker 1: Operation Hope that I found it thirty three years ago
- 13:53Speaker 1: in south central Los Angeles after the Rodney King riots
- 13:56Speaker 1: of nineteen ninety two. Pristion Hope is leading the civil
- 14:03Speaker 1: rights movement s I l V e R and now
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Third Reconstruction in my opinion, along with other noteworthy
- 14:09Speaker 1: and important organizations that are doing great work in this country.
- 14:12Speaker 1: By the way, Bishop T. D. Jakes and his Good
- 14:14Speaker 1: Soil Organization, there's so many more Van Jones and all
- 14:18Speaker 1: the heroes and heroes Susan Taylor. There's so many people
- 14:22Speaker 1: who are doing really important work. It's not just us
- 14:25Speaker 1: but leading this helping to lead this important work at
- 14:29Speaker 1: this important time that's platforming economic growth for this next
- 14:35Speaker 1: generation for this country, because literally, this country cannot continue
- 14:38Speaker 1: to be the leader of the free world without the
- 14:40Speaker 1: least of these gods children joining the party. And this
- 14:43Speaker 1: is an old story, by the way. In other words,
- 14:46Speaker 1: the country has always had the bottom lift up from
- 14:49Speaker 1: the bottom to the top. The latter has just broken
- 14:51Speaker 1: now and we need to rebuild it for us. So
- 14:53Speaker 1: Main Street needs the same resources as Wall Street, Okay,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and so Operation Hope is this economic plumbing, this Walmart
- 15:04Speaker 1: for financial literacy, this Starbuck of financial inclusions for the country.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Fifteen hundred offices. It will be fifteen thousand by twenty thirty,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but we currently have two day fifteen hundred offices and
- 15:16Speaker 1: forty two plus states. We're opening an office on average
- 15:21Speaker 1: every two weeks. Think about the major banks in this corporation.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Most all of them are for our partners, and they're
- 15:28Speaker 1: not doing one officer too. In the case of Truest Bank,
- 15:32Speaker 1: they're doing eight hundred, almost half of all their branches.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That's not charity. I don't want to get wrong in
- 15:39Speaker 1: the number off the top of my head, but I
- 15:40Speaker 1: think at this point we're well over fifty Bank of America,
- 15:43Speaker 1: same thing, US Bank on board. I mean you name
- 15:48Speaker 1: the institution, we have a relationship with them. Major corporations,
- 16:03Speaker 1: we have relationships with them. The Fortune five hundred. This
- 16:07Speaker 1: is not charities, major cities and the city, state, and
- 16:10Speaker 1: federal government. I've known. I've worked with twelve US Secretaries
- 16:15Speaker 1: of the Treasury. I've known nine US presidents. We've been
- 16:18Speaker 1: recognized by five US presidents by both parties. I've been
- 16:21Speaker 1: a credentialed advisor with the security clearance for three presidents
- 16:24Speaker 1: from both parties. I've advised officially and unofficially President Clinton,
- 16:30Speaker 1: President Bush, and President Obama. Been the chairman of the
- 16:35Speaker 1: the US President's Advisory Council of Financial Literacy and the
- 16:38Speaker 1: Chairman of the Committee on the Underserved. We've made it.
- 16:40Speaker 1: We created federal policy for financial literacy for the federal government.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Now we need tod that policy to include the people
- 16:49Speaker 1: in communities. Hopefully this means legislation sometime soon that will
- 16:54Speaker 1: be K through college at least K through twelve should
- 16:57Speaker 1: be mandatory financial literacy, I believe is a civil rights
- 16:59Speaker 1: issue this generation. We inspired the renaming of the building
- 17:02Speaker 1: on the White House campus called the Freedman's Bank. No
- 17:04Speaker 1: organization or individual has ever done that in the history
- 17:07Speaker 1: of this country, all up from South central a and Compton,
- 17:10Speaker 1: California to now the largest on the ground footprint for
- 17:14Speaker 1: economic empowerment in this country. Fifteen hundred physical offices, three
- 17:21Speaker 1: hundred offices that are manned by my employees, and then
- 17:25Speaker 1: the rest are helped twelve hundred are through our partners
- 17:30Speaker 1: who help us with their employees and with volunteers and
- 17:33Speaker 1: through technology. So by the end of this episode, you'll
- 17:36Speaker 1: know exactly how to download hope into your life, your business,
- 17:39Speaker 1: your school, or your community. And we're not selling a dream,
- 17:45Speaker 1: We're helping you build yours. So here are the tools
- 17:48Speaker 1: and the shovels of your life. So for individuals and families,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'm literally going to break this down. So put out
- 17:56Speaker 1: your pen, your pencil, your digital platform, your iPhone, notes, whatever,
- 18:01Speaker 1: and let's get at this hope inside we have. This
- 18:05Speaker 1: is where we have fifteen hundred offices. Hope inside of
- 18:08Speaker 1: bank branches, hoping side, hoping side of churches, hoping side
- 18:12Speaker 1: of grocery stores, hoping side of community centers, hoping side
- 18:16Speaker 1: of government offices, hoping side of the fire department. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: believe we're doing that in Atlanta, hoping side a police
- 18:23Speaker 1: department hoping side. So these hope inside offices to make simple,
- 18:29Speaker 1: make things really simple, are doing some straightforward things. They're
- 18:32Speaker 1: raising your credit score fifty four points in six months,
- 18:35Speaker 1: lowering your debt thirty eight hundred dollars, increasing your savings
- 18:39Speaker 1: twelve hundred dollars between six and twelve months. If you're
- 18:42Speaker 1: making forty eight thousand dollars a year, fifty thousand dollars
- 18:45Speaker 1: in this example, this just changed your life and made
- 18:47Speaker 1: you bankable. Did you get that point? All right? Just
- 18:51Speaker 1: doing that transforms your life. So the bank can't tell
- 18:54Speaker 1: you yes, you think the bank is racist. They just
- 18:56Speaker 1: might think you're a credit risk. By the way, the
- 18:58Speaker 1: bank who knows the banker might be racist. I don't know.
- 19:01Speaker 1: All I know is if you go to that computer
- 19:03Speaker 1: at midnight and you punch in your information, you have
- 19:05Speaker 1: a seven to twenty credit score and you're asking for
- 19:07Speaker 1: a sub one hundred thousand dollars credit line, mortgage line,
- 19:11Speaker 1: credit card, whatever, the likelihood of that computer saying yes
- 19:14Speaker 1: to you, irrespective of your color, your gender, or your
- 19:16Speaker 1: geography is very very high, like above eighty percent. So
- 19:21Speaker 1: the color is green, not black and white or red
- 19:24Speaker 1: or blue, and we're going to help you to access
- 19:26Speaker 1: some of that green by making yourself attractive a bank.
- 19:30Speaker 1: There's a joke in banking. A banker will lend you
- 19:32Speaker 1: money you prove you don't need it. It's a joke,
- 19:35Speaker 1: but it's not far from it. In other words, it's
- 19:38Speaker 1: about it's a joke that every banker recognizes because bankers
- 19:41Speaker 1: are not in the risk business. They're in the risk
- 19:43Speaker 1: mitigation business, the risk management business. And you need to
- 19:47Speaker 1: show that you're managing risk your own and those you're
- 19:51Speaker 1: associated with very well, so they can trust you with
- 19:55Speaker 1: loaning you money because they have got to get it
- 19:56Speaker 1: back because because most of their money is to positive
- 19:59Speaker 1: mone me and if you fail, they fail. So the
- 20:04Speaker 1: only benefit if they make you a loan and you
- 20:06Speaker 1: pay it back and they and they cannot profit unless
- 20:10Speaker 1: they're making loans. So anybody that says, well, the bank
- 20:12Speaker 1: is just doesn't make loans. That's not right. That's not
- 20:14Speaker 1: true that the bank wants to say yes, but they're
- 20:16Speaker 1: forced to say no if your credit score stinks, if
- 20:19Speaker 1: your debt to income ratio stinks, if your credit is
- 20:23Speaker 1: tow up from the flow up. My daddy used to
- 20:25Speaker 1: say he doesn't have credit. He had credit that his
- 20:27Speaker 1: credit was bad, right, and no banker wanted to live
- 20:30Speaker 1: and lend him money. It was a nice guy, ever,
- 20:32Speaker 1: didn't matter. You go to church every Sunday and be
- 20:34Speaker 1: the nicest person on the planet. If your credit is
- 20:37Speaker 1: toe up and you have a five hundred credit score,
- 20:38Speaker 1: they're not giving you a loan. It's not racist, it's
- 20:42Speaker 1: it's just a smart credit decision. So my credit score
- 20:47Speaker 1: used to be eight hundred. Now it's in the high
- 20:50Speaker 1: seven hundreds. Because I'm an entrepreneur and I use my
- 20:52Speaker 1: profile my platform to support operations ope with a lot
- 20:55Speaker 1: of my ventures. So it moves around. But the anything
- 20:58Speaker 1: above seven hundred is smooth. So we're going to help
- 21:02Speaker 1: you get to a point where the bank can be
- 21:03Speaker 1: in the yes business. Yes we want to make you
- 21:06Speaker 1: a homeowner. Yes we want to make you provide your
- 21:09Speaker 1: consumer credit card and so on and so forth, versus
- 21:11Speaker 1: turning you down. So we got to turn the green
- 21:13Speaker 1: lights on in underserved communities so that we can say yes.
- 21:18Speaker 1: So I wrote the business plan for America. I wrote
- 21:21Speaker 1: this tied dream forward. Doctor Kings the anniversary of his
- 21:24Speaker 1: assassination a fifty seventh anniversary April fourth. I wrote a
- 21:28Speaker 1: series of business plans. Business Plan for America, Everybody, business
- 21:31Speaker 1: plan for Black America, a business plan for Rural America,
- 21:34Speaker 1: a business plan for Women, a business plan for Latino Americas,
- 21:38Speaker 1: a business fan for Asian America, the business plan for
- 21:41Speaker 1: Native American Indians. I probably missed a group off the
- 21:45Speaker 1: top of my head, but they're all online. Go to
- 21:47Speaker 1: dream Forward. Everything i'm telling you right now is downloadable,
- 21:50Speaker 1: searchable while while i'm talking to you. Go online and
- 21:54Speaker 1: just type in dream Forward business Plan for America, our
- 21:57Speaker 1: John o'pbrant business Plan for America, our Operation Hope dream Forward,
- 22:00Speaker 1: any of these iterations, our John O'Briant business plan for
- 22:04Speaker 1: Black America, or a business plan for women, business plan
- 22:07Speaker 1: for Rural America which includes my poor white brothers and sisters.
- 22:11Speaker 1: All of these will pull up these business plans. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: want you to read them, I want you to print them.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I want you to share them with everybody. This is
- 22:17Speaker 1: open source. I'm not hiding anything from anybody, right and
- 22:20Speaker 1: then I want you to tie those business plans into this.
- 22:25Speaker 1: If you go to a Hope and Side location and
- 22:27Speaker 1: you raise your credit score, and then everybody in your block,
- 22:30Speaker 1: raise your credit score in your neighborhood of your family.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Here's what you find out. If you hang around nine
- 22:34Speaker 1: broke people, you're going to be the tenth. The opposite
- 22:37Speaker 1: is also true. You hang around nine rich people, you're
- 22:40Speaker 1: likely to be rich and wealthy too, at least rich.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You hang around nine aspirational people, you tend to be aspirational.
- 22:46Speaker 1: You model what you see. Let's change what we see
- 22:50Speaker 1: and who we model on who we hang around. So
- 22:52Speaker 1: if we infect everybody with an increased credit score, what
- 22:55Speaker 1: we found is over twenty years time, if we do
- 22:58Speaker 1: nothing in Black America, our net worth will be about
- 23:01Speaker 1: zero by twenty fifty three. Okay, so that's a little
- 23:07Speaker 1: bit more than than twenty years time, of course, but
- 23:10Speaker 1: you get the point by twenty fifty three, well within
- 23:14Speaker 1: before you know, within thirty years the network back. If
- 23:20Speaker 1: we do nothing, but we're doing now, the network of
- 23:22Speaker 1: Black America will be zero. If we raise credit score
- 23:26Speaker 1: for one hundred points to an average of seven hundred,
- 23:30Speaker 1: as I'm suggesting, you pick up seven hundred and fifty
- 23:33Speaker 1: billion dollars in wealth creation just by doing that. You
- 23:38Speaker 1: then use that credit score to then access home ownership,
- 23:41Speaker 1: because you're because now you're a prime credit risk. That's
- 23:44Speaker 1: eight hundred billion dollars, right, So just those two acts,
- 23:47Speaker 1: which doesn't require any government intervention, that's one point five
- 23:51Speaker 1: ish trillion dollars of wealth creation in twenty five some
- 23:56Speaker 1: odd years. So this is the power when I'm talking.
- 24:00Speaker 1: So these Hope and Side locations are helping you to
- 24:02Speaker 1: raise your credit scores, lower your debt, increase your savings
- 24:05Speaker 1: on an individual basis to making you bankable so the
- 24:09Speaker 1: bank can get in the yes business and out of
- 24:11Speaker 1: the no business. And if somebody discriminates against you after
- 24:14Speaker 1: you've done all this, you come see me right. In fact,
- 24:17Speaker 1: we have a rule of operation Hope. If the bank
- 24:19Speaker 1: turns you down, will fund your loan, in other words,
- 24:21Speaker 1: will approve you subject to the resolution of your primary
- 24:24Speaker 1: denial factors. That's right, we OPPREI will approve you, and
- 24:28Speaker 1: we've approved. We have facilitated four point five billion dollars
- 24:31Speaker 1: plus of investments and underserved communities primarily through major banks
- 24:36Speaker 1: that I'm talking about here at prime rates, and we've
- 24:40Speaker 1: never had the fund the loan. But our promise is
- 24:42Speaker 1: if the bank, if you do what we tell you
- 24:44Speaker 1: to do and the bank does not fund your loan,
- 24:48Speaker 1: will approve you. If the bank doesn't fund it, will
- 24:50Speaker 1: fund it. We'll put up our own balance sheet. And
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm the largest black mail founded community based nonprofit ever
- 24:56Speaker 1: stood up and operated in an American history on a
- 24:58Speaker 1: sustainable basis, based on our annual budget and based on
- 25:04Speaker 1: the investments that we've made in communities. So I'm not
- 25:06Speaker 1: selling wolf tickets here. I'm telling you what we've done
- 25:08Speaker 1: for thirty three years and I've never had to write
- 25:10Speaker 1: a check because the banks always want to make a
- 25:14Speaker 1: good loan, and if they don't, again, somebody discriminated against
- 25:18Speaker 1: you will be staying right there with you to walk
- 25:21Speaker 1: you through back through a re look at your file
- 25:29Speaker 1: number two. So we're doing free financial coaching. It's not
- 25:32Speaker 1: really free. It's sponsored your scholarship. So we have Hope scholarships.
- 25:36Speaker 1: So it cost us money to and our partners cost
- 25:40Speaker 1: us money to do this. But we will give you
- 25:42Speaker 1: a thousand dollars scholarship good for twelve months to do
- 25:47Speaker 1: your free financial coaching, get your credit score, debt savings inline,
- 25:52Speaker 1: create a budget for you. Things like that just by
- 25:56Speaker 1: calling Operation Hope or downloading the Hope in hand app
- 25:59Speaker 1: or calling one hundred number or going to our website.
- 26:01Speaker 1: All right, so this is the first gift to you. Now,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I want you to go to the Whole Financial Wellness
- 26:07Speaker 1: Index and type in your zip code, because I'm going
- 26:09Speaker 1: to tell you what your credit score is, and you
- 26:11Speaker 1: tell me your zip code. I'm gonna tell your credit score.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I'm gonnaell you how you're living. You tell me your
- 26:15Speaker 1: zip code, I'm gonna tell you your credit score, and
- 26:18Speaker 1: then I'll tell you how you're living. So if you
- 26:20Speaker 1: type in that zip you type in your zip code
- 26:23Speaker 1: and it tells you that you're in a six' ten
- 26:25Speaker 1: credit score, neighborhood it's not, horrible but that will tell
- 26:28Speaker 1: you a lot of things about what's going on in that.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Neighborhood if you live in a five hundred credit score,
- 26:33Speaker 1: neighborhood you lived at sixty one years of. Age by the,
- 26:36Speaker 1: way its retirements not sittinguntil sixty. Five, Okay so you're
- 26:40Speaker 1: paying all this money in the system and you're dying
- 26:41Speaker 1: before you even, retire and can benefit from it because
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're in a surviving. Mindset to cover that in the,
- 26:46Speaker 1: book my book From, nothing see how these things are
- 26:48Speaker 1: all typed in my. Books my speech is the podcast
- 26:52Speaker 1: The Working. Operation we see how this, stuff civil rights
- 26:55Speaker 1: movement for the Third. Reconstruction all these things are tying in.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Together it's all one. Mosaic so. Uh and if you
- 27:02Speaker 1: live to if you have a seven hundred credit, score
- 27:04Speaker 1: by the, way you live to eighty one years of.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Age so we found that across this country about fifteen
- 27:12Speaker 1: minutes apart from in this example Of, chicago from you,
- 27:16Speaker 1: Know Garfield, PARK i believe it's, called and then you
- 27:19Speaker 1: Have Lincoln park fifteen minutes apart between a five hundred
- 27:23Speaker 1: credit score and a seven hundred plus credit, score night and.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Day like the tell of two. Cities same thing In,
- 27:29Speaker 1: atlanta same thing in la same thing In New, york
- 27:32Speaker 1: same thing in you, Know, detroit doesn't, matter, Right and
- 27:36Speaker 1: you lived eighty one years of age in a seven
- 27:38Speaker 1: credit cord neighborhood across the country and sixty one years
- 27:41Speaker 1: of age on average and a five hundred credit cord
- 27:43Speaker 1: neighbor credit creditcore. Neighborhood so it's it's like it's it's
- 27:50Speaker 1: not an exact. Science like for every fifty point increase
- 27:54Speaker 1: in your credit, score you, know you get five years
- 27:57Speaker 1: more of length of, Life so twenty sixty one years
- 28:03Speaker 1: of age versus eighty one years of age, right And
- 28:08Speaker 1: Operation hope is helping you to resolve something like this
- 28:11Speaker 1: on your. Own you don't need anybody else to do.
- 28:13Speaker 1: This you can do it by. Yourself so what happens
- 28:16Speaker 1: when you walk into A hope in side. Location let's
- 28:18Speaker 1: be specific about. This you're a single, mother you've had a,
- 28:22Speaker 1: divorce you got divorce ten years. Ago you walk in the.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Bank the bank manager pos your credit. Report he or
- 28:30Speaker 1: she knows if they put that, application file that, application
- 28:33Speaker 1: which is your, right you're going to get a decline.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Notice they don't want to issue decline. Notice it's bad
- 28:37Speaker 1: for their, record and you're gonna be upset with. Them
- 28:40Speaker 1: so if there's A hope inside inside of that bank,
- 28:42Speaker 1: branch they're, like look you see that guy over, there he,
- 28:45Speaker 1: said lady over. There once you go see, THEM i
- 28:47Speaker 1: can't tell you to do, it can't force you to do.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It but they don't work for. Us they work For Operation.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Hope they're not a bank. Employee they can do things we.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Can you come over to see. Us another, example and
- 28:56Speaker 1: let's say the lady's name Is, Mary Mary Jones in this,
- 28:58Speaker 1: Example jones comes and meets with one of the, coaches
- 29:01Speaker 1: maybe that coaches. Me at this, Example Mary jones sits
- 29:05Speaker 1: down in the old days opera. Show that was that,
- 29:07Speaker 1: coach by the, way was me Or Lambs triggs or
- 29:10Speaker 1: one of the historic legacy Employees Rachel dos other, things
- 29:13Speaker 1: other folks who were around long time. Ago so you
- 29:16Speaker 1: sit down with us and we pull your credit report
- 29:19Speaker 1: and we, go, ooh, baby that looks like a bus.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Accident now a banker can't do, that BUT i. CAN
- 29:25Speaker 1: i don't work for the. Bank you, Know i've asked
- 29:27Speaker 1: you for permission to advocan a conversation with. You you, said, yes,
- 29:30Speaker 1: whoa my, lord this is a tour from the flow
- 29:33Speaker 1: up what's going on? Here and we both have a
- 29:35Speaker 1: nice laugh because it's no mystery to. You did your
- 29:38Speaker 1: credit is probably tore? Up in, fact in this Example
- 29:40Speaker 1: Mary jones she hasn't even checked her credit in ten
- 29:43Speaker 1: years or five years because she was ashamed to look at.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It she, said, YEAH i got divorced and it was
- 29:48Speaker 1: horrible and it didn't work out very. Well and and
- 29:53Speaker 1: what's on? There, WELL i don't, know there's a there's
- 29:55Speaker 1: here one thousand dollars charge off from pack. Bail oh my. God, Yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 1: WELL i lived In, Oakland, california and we had a
- 30:03Speaker 1: phone bill and my husband didn't. Pay it was in
- 30:06Speaker 1: both of our, names and, yes it's one thousand. DOLLARS
- 30:10Speaker 1: i can't pay. It, well Pac bill sold their company AT.
- 30:13Speaker 1: SBC Sbc communication sold that company TO at AND. T
- 30:17Speaker 1: at AND t chased you for that money and could
- 30:20Speaker 1: not get a hold of you, because to Quote Chris,
- 30:22Speaker 1: ROCK i don't you, SAID i don't know nobody with
- 30:24Speaker 1: a one eight hundred. Number when somebody was calling from
- 30:27Speaker 1: the one eight hundred collection agency FOR at AND. T you,
- 30:30Speaker 1: LIKE i don't know anybody with eight hunred. Number i'm
- 30:32Speaker 1: not answering the. Phone so went the voicemail for ten
- 30:35Speaker 1: years or five, years ever, long and they. Sold they
- 30:37Speaker 1: got tired of chasing, you and they sold that it
- 30:40Speaker 1: was called Bad debt for five cents on the. Dollar
- 30:45Speaker 1: they sold it for fifty bucks To Joe's Bad Debt.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Company AND i know It's Joe's Bad Debt company because
- 30:55Speaker 1: it says that in the memo under the. Record so
- 30:59Speaker 1: well we, said let's Call Joe's Bad Debt. Company So
- 31:03Speaker 1: Mary jones gives us. Permission we Call Joe's Bad debt.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Company joe answers the. Phone what CAN i do for?
- 31:09Speaker 1: You i've got you know Miss jones, here we're looking for.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You we're looking for. Her, well she's looking for. You
- 31:15Speaker 1: what do you? Want, well we want our we want
- 31:17Speaker 1: our hundred. Bucks now he didn't say one thousand, dollars,
- 31:21Speaker 1: right he SAID i want my one hundred. Bucks why
- 31:23Speaker 1: did he say one hundred? Bucks because he bought the
- 31:26Speaker 1: debt for fifty. Bucks they won one hundred percent, profit
- 31:29Speaker 1: so fair, changed no. Robbery we, say we're not gonna
- 31:33Speaker 1: pay you one hundred. DOLLARS i knew this is a. Problem, no, no,
- 31:36Speaker 1: no we're not gonna pay you one hundred. Dollar we're
- 31:37Speaker 1: gonna pay you two hundred. Dollars what, Yep we're gonna
- 31:41Speaker 1: pay you. Double we're gonna pay you two hundred dollars
- 31:43Speaker 1: for Missus jones. Debt BECAUSE i need your cooperation AND
- 31:46Speaker 1: i want to speak to your. Supervisor let them know
- 31:48Speaker 1: that you were cooperative and working with. Us AND i
- 31:50Speaker 1: want a letter in writing saying that she is she's
- 31:53Speaker 1: resolved this. Debt once we become an, agreement you receive
- 31:56Speaker 1: payment and that you're going to do everything in your
- 31:58Speaker 1: power to make sure this is removed her credit, record
- 32:00Speaker 1: because we know that it's been there for ten. Years
- 32:03Speaker 1: it's going to. Stick you're going to take it. Off
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's going to come back and take it. Off these
- 32:06Speaker 1: public records are very. Stubborn it's going to come. Back
- 32:09Speaker 1: there's nobody doing it to. You it's just it's just stagnant.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Databases credit reporting, agencies, Experience TransUnion and. Equifacts they don't hate, you,
- 32:18Speaker 1: right it's not. Personal these are. Repositories these are databases
- 32:22Speaker 1: of your credit, files and it's going to take a
- 32:24Speaker 1: while to modernize that information and get it up to,
- 32:27Speaker 1: speed particularly when it's been bad for a long. Time so,
- 32:30Speaker 1: anyway the credit, agent the credit debt bad debt company, says,
- 32:33Speaker 1: sure that's a great. Deal in this, example you got
- 32:36Speaker 1: Miss jones got an eighty percent discount and the company
- 32:40Speaker 1: got one hundred percent of. Profit fair change is no, robbery, everybody,
- 32:44Speaker 1: One i've already told you a good negotiation is in
- 32:48Speaker 1: a prior podcast is AT a good negotiation is where
- 32:50Speaker 1: everybody leaves the table slightly. Annoyed okay, Again i'm bringing
- 32:55Speaker 1: all these these lessons together here with Operation. Hope what's capitalism.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Table you've got a consumer on the one side and
- 33:02Speaker 1: a seller on the other. Side the seller is trying
- 33:05Speaker 1: to get as much from you as they can while
- 33:07Speaker 1: giving you the least. Value that's the seller's. Job your
- 33:11Speaker 1: job as a consumer is to pay the lease by
- 33:13Speaker 1: getting the most from the. Seller everybody's doing their. Job
- 33:18Speaker 1: don't be mad At capitalism is not, personal it's just.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Business so you get. That everybody's doing their. Job so
- 33:24Speaker 1: this is example of the bad debt. Company they bought
- 33:27Speaker 1: it for fifty. Bucks they won one hundred. Bucks, great,
- 33:32Speaker 1: well you owed one thousand dollars ten years. Ago your
- 33:35Speaker 1: credit has been tow, up and you've certainly paid a
- 33:37Speaker 1: price for having horrible. Credit you paid, well you've paid
- 33:40Speaker 1: a price for. It now you're getting an eighty percent
- 33:44Speaker 1: discount because it's not a thousand dollars debt. Obligation it's
- 33:47Speaker 1: one hundred dollars. Obligation but we're going to pay two
- 33:49Speaker 1: hundred dollars so we can get the absolute cooperation from
- 33:52Speaker 1: this capitalist money charging company, debt this debt collection, company
- 33:57Speaker 1: who is used to chasing, people not used to. Cooperating
- 34:02Speaker 1: and so now once we get that filed with the credit.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Bureau your credit report goes, up your credit score goes,
- 34:08Speaker 1: up you, know forty, points so you know you got
- 34:11Speaker 1: it from five to eighty to six. Twenty, well what
- 34:14Speaker 1: happens to missus jones self? Esteem it increases her shoulders go,
- 34:19Speaker 1: back her head comes, up she's she's. Proud oh my,
- 34:21Speaker 1: god this is. GREAT i find in control of my. Life,
- 34:23Speaker 1: okay what else can we? Do we, Say, well what's
- 34:26Speaker 1: this on? Him Missus, JONES i don't know what that? Is,
- 34:29Speaker 1: great that's called him. Error you haven't checked your credit
- 34:32Speaker 1: SINCE mettheusda was told in, fables, right you haven't checked
- 34:37Speaker 1: your credit since there were dinosaurs roll in the, Earth
- 34:40Speaker 1: so you don't know what's on. There if you haven't
- 34:42Speaker 1: checked your credit in five, YEARS i guarantee there's an
- 34:44Speaker 1: error on your credit. Report, so Missus, jones what's? THIS
- 34:47Speaker 1: i don't. Know. Great if you don't know what that,
- 34:49Speaker 1: is that's called an. Error let's contact the credit. Bureaus
- 34:52Speaker 1: let's write a letter to each of the credit. Bureaus
- 34:55Speaker 1: and we write that With Missus jones assistance and the Law.
- 34:58Speaker 1: States silver right knowledge now not civil rights Silver Rights KNOWLEDGE.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Silvr you know, better you do. Better the law states
- 35:07Speaker 1: if the credit bureas cannot confirm that that is, yours
- 35:10Speaker 1: they must remove it within thirty. Days so we write
- 35:13Speaker 1: the letter typically in this example That i'm giving you
- 35:17Speaker 1: eighty percent of the, time the credit bureas cannot confirm
- 35:20Speaker 1: that that it Is Missus, jones and so it gets.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Removed that's a thirty point pop in your credit. Score
- 35:26Speaker 1: so now you've gone from five to eighty to six
- 35:28Speaker 1: twenty an, example because we resolve the bad debt charge off,
- 35:32Speaker 1: issue which is which is one of the worst things
- 35:34Speaker 1: you have with your credit. Report we did it. Legitimately
- 35:37Speaker 1: don't go to all these companies ask you to pay
- 35:39Speaker 1: them money to do some illegal stuff or people wiping
- 35:42Speaker 1: your credit. Report if it looks like something that looks
- 35:46Speaker 1: like a free, lunch it probably. Is it's probably. Stale,
- 35:50Speaker 1: also it's probably an illegitimate it's probably some frauds. Thing
- 35:54Speaker 1: just stay away from. It just do it. Right handle
- 35:56Speaker 1: you never go wrong doing. Right just do it the right.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Way and then in this example you can you've gone
- 36:01Speaker 1: to six from five eighty to six, twenty and now
- 36:04Speaker 1: you've gone from six to twenty to what another thirty
- 36:07Speaker 1: point Pop, hello six. Fifty, Right so now you're in
- 36:22Speaker 1: the sweet, spot your prime credit. Adjacent now we start
- 36:27Speaker 1: working it in your. Budget and in this, example you
- 36:32Speaker 1: make forty five thousand, dollars and we find that you
- 36:40Speaker 1: go To starbucks three four times a week and you smoke.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Cigarettes we do some simple math and figure out you
- 36:47Speaker 1: spending six thousand dollars a year on fancy coffees and
- 36:52Speaker 1: no disrespect To, starbucks fancy coffees and, cigarettes which the box,
- 36:56Speaker 1: says this stuff will kill. You so if we can get,
- 36:59Speaker 1: that get you to get a cured machine at, home
- 37:03Speaker 1: make your own, coffee and commit yourself to wellness and
- 37:07Speaker 1: maybe go back and watch The health And wealth Episode
- 37:10Speaker 1: The shape AND i did on on on your well.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Being All, right that six thousand dollars that you're saving
- 37:17Speaker 1: off of your. List make. This i'm gonna make this
- 37:19Speaker 1: really simple. Math thirty five or thirty thousand dollars of.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Income let's say you're just starting out in. Life six.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Dollars that's twenty percent of your. Income so there's two
- 37:29Speaker 1: ways to make, money make, more spend. Less in this,
- 37:32Speaker 1: example you did. Both now you can reprogram that money
- 37:36Speaker 1: to do something useful with, it which is pay down
- 37:38Speaker 1: some bad credit card debt or you, know and we
- 37:42Speaker 1: combine that with the Earning coome task credit where you
- 37:44Speaker 1: might get it back as. Much if you have three.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Children all my coaches do all this. Stuff i'm telling.
- 37:48Speaker 1: You by the, Way i'm just giving an example of what.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Happens was why he walks into an open side office
- 37:52Speaker 1: and this, example you've got three. KIDS i hope you
- 37:55Speaker 1: don't you know at this early in, life but you
- 37:57Speaker 1: have three. Kids at some point you have you make
- 37:59Speaker 1: a thirty eight thousand dollar a. Year in this, example
- 38:02Speaker 1: the government owes you about seventy five hundred dollars give
- 38:06Speaker 1: or take through something called The earning come a tax.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Credit if you don't have a tax pro you probably
- 38:11Speaker 1: never heard of eiitc one out of Four americans who
- 38:14Speaker 1: qualify for it never asked for. It read, black brown
- 38:17Speaker 1: people in underserved. Communities so if you've never asked for,
- 38:20Speaker 1: it you didn't know about. It it's retroactive for three.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Years that's. Right that's a check to you of almost
- 38:26Speaker 1: twenty thousand. Dollars now we're talking about real. Money you've,
- 38:28Speaker 1: saved you've. Reprogrammed in this, example six thousand dollars twenty
- 38:31Speaker 1: percent of your. Income you now got a check for
- 38:33Speaker 1: twenty thousand, dollars more money you've ever seen at one
- 38:35Speaker 1: time in your. Life if you are living in a
- 38:38Speaker 1: rural area or are a hockey puck, city which means
- 38:42Speaker 1: a city that you want to go where the pucket's
- 38:44Speaker 1: going on economic, growth it's not in La it's not
- 38:46Speaker 1: In New, york but it's it's not even In. Atlanta
- 38:48Speaker 1: maybe it's outside Of, atlanta you, know forty minutes or.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Whatever you can buy a house in the in the
- 38:55Speaker 1: southeast for you, know let's just say one hundre and
- 39:00Speaker 1: fifty thousand. Dollars so in this, example you now have
- 39:04Speaker 1: ten percent down payment to buy a. House and what's
- 39:09Speaker 1: the no more you build wealth In america home. Ownership
- 39:12Speaker 1: so we just put you in the sweet spot to get.
- 39:13Speaker 1: You by the time we finished with, you now you're
- 39:16Speaker 1: in a six 't eighty credit score or. Better you
- 39:18Speaker 1: can get prime credit sixt eighty seven hundred. Range you
- 39:23Speaker 1: might qualify For Community Reinvestment act OR fha Or fanny
- 39:28Speaker 1: Or freddie or one of these special. Programs one of
- 39:30Speaker 1: the future chances things times where accounts being black or
- 39:34Speaker 1: brown or underserved is These they are special programs that
- 39:38Speaker 1: are set aside for people who are aspirational and who are.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Underserved so now you've got to get a really good mortgage,
- 39:47Speaker 1: product maybe some down payment assistance grants that are available
- 39:52Speaker 1: from banks in, city state and federal. Government did you
- 39:55Speaker 1: know that you got The in other, Words steel like
- 39:57Speaker 1: our financial. Concierge in this, example we're putting. Together we're
- 40:00Speaker 1: structuring a solution for you so that you can take
- 40:03Speaker 1: control of your life and get some ownership in your.
- 40:06Speaker 1: World and that's an example of What hope Inside uh.

- 43:21Speaker 1: The box academies where we help young people start. Businesses
- 43:24Speaker 1: we Have Hope Child savors accounts for every kid at
- 43:27Speaker 1: kindergarten kid In Atlanta Public schools Through Mayor Andre dickens
- 43:31Speaker 1: Former Mayor Keisha Lands, bottoms who was the original. Idea
- 43:34Speaker 1: Andrew dickins continued it The City council The Atlanta Public.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Schools it's been a great partnership over ten five hundred
- 43:43Speaker 1: accounts for kindergarten, kids and now we're about to launch
- 43:46Speaker 1: financial literacy around. That studies have proven that if a
- 43:50Speaker 1: kid gets a bank account at, kindergarten they're fifty percent
- 43:54Speaker 1: more likely to go to. College if you put a
- 43:57Speaker 1: couple hundred bucks in that, account seventy virus is more
- 44:00Speaker 1: likely to graduate from. College isn't that? Remarkable so THIS
- 44:05Speaker 1: i mean you should you? Know And i'll go once so.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Further don't just give your kid a toy that they're
- 44:10Speaker 1: going to destroy very. Quickly give a kid a buy
- 44:13Speaker 1: a kid a share of stock through this company CALLED uh.
- 44:20Speaker 1: BUY i think it's actually literally called by a share
- 44:24Speaker 1: THAT uh. Gives you can buy a shriff stock and
- 44:28Speaker 1: they frame it, right send it to you for the.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Kid give as a gift. Wrap it's not only a
- 44:33Speaker 1: nice gift the kid and see. It it's, real it's.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Legitimate like and by the, way when you get one

- 44:40Speaker 1: you have the rights to get access to all of their.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Financials did you know? That isn't that? Cool to give
- 44:46Speaker 1: something into your kid is going to grow over time
- 44:49Speaker 1: and literally is a living document and is a literal
- 44:52Speaker 1: a living financial literacy. Tool So Hope inside For kids is.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Multifaceted But hope inside hopes our child savors accounts and
- 45:00Speaker 1: whole business in the. Boxes but two of the examples
- 45:02Speaker 1: of what we do. There banking on our future is financial.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Literacy we teach in. Schools we taught over a million
- 45:07Speaker 1: kids financial. Literacy we're partner with doctor Bernicse A king
- 45:11Speaker 1: soon Doctor king's daughter to open up accounts in one
- 45:15Speaker 1: hundred cities to mark the one hundredth birthday of Doctor.
- 45:18Speaker 1: KING i believe that is the twenty twenty nine is
- 45:21Speaker 1: his one hundredth would be his hundredth. Birthday so we're.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Working you'll be hearing about that. Soon for entrepreneurs and business,
- 45:27Speaker 1: owners ONE, mbb the One Million Black Business initiative that
- 45:31Speaker 1: was launched in twenty, twenty goes to twenty. Thirty it's
- 45:34Speaker 1: a partnership With shopify put up one hundred and ninety
- 45:37Speaker 1: million dollars to help us create new black. Businesses why
- 45:41Speaker 1: do they do? It it's real. Simple they let's say
- 45:43Speaker 1: they own two to Three let's say they have two
- 45:45Speaker 1: to three percent of shops Under shopify that are black owned.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Businesses they want ten percent of their shops that they
- 45:53Speaker 1: are black owned. Businesses it's more profitent for. Them they
- 45:55Speaker 1: want more, customers they want new. Customers it's smart, business
- 45:59Speaker 1: so we're helping them to get new. Customers it's also
- 46:03Speaker 1: doing well and doing good at the same. Time but
- 46:05Speaker 1: by the, way if you're a white and poor rule
- 46:07Speaker 1: and you want to, help we've got a program for
- 46:09Speaker 1: you're you're a, woman you want to, help anybody can
- 46:12Speaker 1: call operat shop and access our small business. Services but
- 46:16Speaker 1: this was something we created because of, course blacks are
- 46:19Speaker 1: the bottom of the economic, pyramid and ninety six percent
- 46:22Speaker 1: of black businesses don't have employee and almost none of
- 46:25Speaker 1: them are on e. Commerce so the second largest e
- 46:28Speaker 1: commerce company in the world and the number one for
- 46:32Speaker 1: shops when they said they want to, help we're, like
- 46:35Speaker 1: what time and? When? Right so thank You, harley thank, You,
- 46:39Speaker 1: toby thanks, everybody cast everybody At. Shopify we're at four
- 46:43Speaker 1: hundred and fifty thousand black businesses in. Counting but you,
- 46:47Speaker 1: know and we're halfway through this. Experiment at twenty twenty
- 46:49Speaker 1: to twenty twenty, thirty we're twenty twenty, five at four
- 46:52Speaker 1: hundred and fifty thousand. Businesses we're about, WELL i think
- 46:57Speaker 1: it was like twelve percent of all black businesses in this.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Country i've got to look at the numbers, again BUT
- 47:01Speaker 1: i think there's like things are like three point one
- 47:04Speaker 1: million black business country and so you, know we're at
- 47:07Speaker 1: forty fifty, thousand so not, bad and we're not the.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Government we're just a nonprofit over killing, it killing the.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Game and you've got to access through that through ONE
- 47:17Speaker 1: mbb dot org or through the operational website to already
