- 0:10Speaker 2: Hey, what's happened? Everybody?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome into this edition of the Checko Deli. Andrew Dichecko
- 0:15here and the Eagles held their final practice of the week,
- 0:19that is until Sunday, when game week officially kicks off.
- 0:23That's the next time they'll be on the practice field.
- 0:25And there were a number of transactions, number changes and
- 0:30practice status notes that we have to get to.
- 0:33Speaker 2: So let's get right to it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm not going to carry this podcast too long today,
- 0:38but I do, as always, want to hit you with
- 0:40the information and give you that quick fix of all
- 0:43that happened today at an overcare complex. So let's start
- 0:46with the practice status and bear in mind as we
- 0:50get into this that in the regular season it's a
- 0:53lot different from training camp. So we as the media,
- 0:55we're there for about fifteen minutes when we are able
- 0:57to see practice, so you're seeing warm ups and individuals,
- 1:02so it's not quite like the summer where you got
- 1:04to see the whole practice.
- 1:05Speaker 2: That's the difference. So from what we were.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Able to see, guard Landon Dickerson knee and wide receiver
- 1:12Aj Brown hamstring practice in some capacity for the second
- 1:17consecutive day.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So did wide receiver.
- 1:19Speaker 1: DeVante Smith, who had the groin he was also a participant,
- 1:23and cornerback Keeley Ringo, who sustained a quad injury on
- 1:26the final day of training camp that sidelined him from
- 1:29the preseason finale.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Also participated.
- 1:33Speaker 1: No practice again for rookie safety Drew mccouba, who's still
- 1:37nursing the hamstring injury, but he was spotted working on
- 1:40a side field. The Eagles fortified their depth at the
- 1:44position by adding veterans safety Marcus EPs to the practice
- 1:47squad that was announced late last night. He was out
- 1:49there today. He's wearing number thirty nine. Epp suffered an
- 1:53ACL injury in Week three of last season. Important to
- 1:57note and as for Willie Lampkin, the Eagles rookie center
- 2:02who they claimed via waivers from the Rams, he was
- 2:08he appeared not to be practicing today. He's wearing number
- 2:10sixty one. He was sort of standing as the Eagles
- 2:13were stretching. And remember he had the knee injury and
- 2:16ankle sprain in the preseason game against the Chargers, but
- 2:19he said he should be back soon.
- 2:21Speaker 2: He spoke to us today and the good news there.
- 2:25So Willie Lampkin was present.
- 2:29Speaker 1: The Eagles yesterday wave two players who made the initial
- 2:32fifty three van roster twenty twenty four fifth round pick
- 2:35Trevor Keegan offensive lineman and safety Tristan McCollum.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Well.
- 2:40Speaker 1: When the waiver claims came through about four four thirty,
- 2:43it was known that Tristan McCollum was claimed by the
- 2:47Las Vegas Raiders and Trevor Keegan was claimed by the
- 2:50Dallas Cowboys. Both players are now on fifty three man
- 2:54rosters and both respective teams have.
- 2:58Speaker 2: To keep them on their fifty three for it at
- 3:00least three weeks.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That is the rule, and there was I got a
- 3:04lot of questions about this, but despite a report that
- 3:07the Eagles had signed former Broncos running back Audrich Steamme,
- 3:10there was no sign of steam A at practice. We'll
- 3:13wait and find out more on that. Let's get to
- 3:17some number changes, cause I know there are a lot
- 3:19of folks out there who are Jersey number enthusiasts, and
- 3:23there was a ton today. We were able to assess
- 3:26it obviously looking at the players on the field, but
- 3:29then we were handed the roster where we were able
- 3:32to see the fully established practice squad. And I'll have
- 3:36some notes on that as well. So from the active roster,
- 3:38some number changes. Quarterback Sam Howell he's now wearing number fourteen.
- 3:43He's a new addition. Wide receiver John Metchi he's now
- 3:47wearing number eighteen. He was wearing number eighty. Cornerback Jacory
- 3:52and Bennett He's now wearing number forty one.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He was wearing forty nine.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Defensive end ogwo Okuranquo is wearing number forty five. Was
- 4:02wearing number fifty. Center guard Willie Lampkin. I mentioned number
- 4:06sixty one. He's a new addition. Offensive lineman Fred Johnson.
- 4:10He's wearing number seventy four, his old number last season
- 4:13and the year before with the Eagles. He's a new edition.
- 4:16Wide receiver Darius Cooper. He was wearing forty one. Now
- 4:20he's wearing number eighty. That was a much discussed topic
- 4:23based on what I was able to see on social media.
- 4:26Now for the practice squad, I mentioned safety Marcus EPs
- 4:29he's wearing number thirty nine. New addition tackle Luke Felix Fulalo.
- 4:34He's an international exemption. He's wearing number seventy two. Wide
- 4:38receiver Terriss Marshall, he's wearing number eighty two. He was
- 4:40wearing forty six. Wide receiver Britain Covey is a new addition.
- 4:44He's a new old addition. He's wearing number eighty five.
- 4:47Pleasant surprise to see him on the practice field today.
- 4:51Tight End Cameron Lattu, he was wearing forty nine last summer.
- 4:54Now he's wearing number eighty seven. So let's get to
- 4:58some quick news and notes on on some of those
- 5:00practice squad signings. One, I think the Marcus EPs edition
- 5:04is a savvy move by the Eagles. He started plenty
- 5:06of games in the NFL, start at seventeen games and
- 5:09all postseason contests for the Eagles in twenty twenty two, when,
- 5:12of course they made it the Super Bowl fifty seven
- 5:14and played the Chiefs.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So he brings a wealth of experience.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And depending on what happens with Drew mccouba in the hamstring,
- 5:20if he's not quite ready, the Eagles don't want to
- 5:22rush him. Perhaps Epps could be a player who was
- 5:25elevated for Week one. We'll have to wait and see.
- 5:27There's still plenty of time yet for the Eagles to
- 5:30make an assessment. But Britain Covey spent the summer with
- 5:34the Rams. He fell short of making the final roster, obviously,
- 5:38but he was originally an undrafted free agent signing of
- 5:40the Eagles in twenty twenty two, appearing in thirty eight
- 5:43games over three seasons, predominantly serving as the team's punt returner,
- 5:47and in twenty twenty three, Britain Covey averaged.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Fourteen point four yards per return.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Covey, he's twenty seven years old, was limited just five
- 5:55games last season. If you remember, he suffered a neck
- 5:57injury in the Ravens game. He had a shoulder injury
- 6:00I believe week three on a play towards the sideline
- 6:03when he was tackled out of bounds against the Saints,
- 6:06but it was the neck injury that ultimately landed him
- 6:08on injured reserve on December twenty eighth, And with the
- 6:12Eagles absent of a definitive answer at punt returner, Britain
- 6:15Cubby could be someone to keep an eye on when
- 6:17it comes to game day elevations. Much like Marcus EPs,
- 6:20there's a lot of options here. It just depends on
- 6:22where the Eagles are at health wise. As we get
- 6:25closer to Thursday night, I mentioned Luke Felix fool Lollo,
- 6:31and he's a rookie offensive tackle. He's six foot seven,
- 6:34three hundred and eighteen pounds. He replaces lake In Vakalahi
- 6:37as the team's international exemption. Felix fool Lala Loo attended
- 6:42the Seahawks Rookie Mini Camp on a tryout basis and
- 6:45spent the summer with the team. During the preseason, he
- 6:48recorded the Seahawks' second highest pass block rade according to
- 6:51Pro Football Focus, and he was first among the Seahawks
- 6:54group of offensive tackles. He was born in Brisbane, Australia,
- 6:59and began playing football as at junior in high school
- 7:02at matter Day High School.
- 7:03Speaker 2: In Santa Ana, which is an esteemed high school for athletics,
- 7:08especially football.
- 7:09Speaker 1: When he moved to California, he started his collegiate career
- 7:13at Utah and he finished at Hawaii. As I mentioned,
- 7:16he joined as an undrafted free agent in the NFL
- 7:19Rookie Mini Caamp tryout spent the summer with the Seahawks.
- 7:22My understanding is is that he had multiple teams that
- 7:26were interested, But the sense that I've got is that
- 7:30he chose the Philadelphia Eagles due to their acclaimed developmental program.
- 7:36They're going to get the most out of them, and
- 7:38that's something you can expect from every young player on
- 7:41this team. The Eagles prioritized developing young talent, and some
- 7:46of that plays into who they kept on the fifty three,
- 7:48like at Cameron Williams and then on the practice squad
- 7:51if you really look at it, cornerback Eli Rix. There's
- 7:54certain players there that really to me suggest that they
- 7:58were They're kept on for development, developmental purposes that the
- 8:01team wants to continue to work with, and then maybe
- 8:03next summer they're able to make a serious run at
- 8:05a roster spot.
- 8:07Speaker 2: But the Eagles right now, that's the roster.
- 8:09Speaker 1: They are well positioned now leading into the September fourth
- 8:12season opener against.
- 8:13Speaker 2: The Dallas Cowboys.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Obviously, I'll have plenty more news and notes and insight
- 8:18to provide beginning Sunday. I'll get to you another podcast
- 8:22before then, but Sunday is when things start to ramp
- 8:25up and we get into the game week, if you
- 8:27can believe it or not, busy week of transactions. Thanks
- 8:31for sort of hanging with me, and hopefully these podcasts
- 8:34are informative and are giving you guys the information that.
- 8:37Speaker 2: You've been craving.
- 8:39Speaker 1: That's the goal here obviously, but for now that's going
- 8:41to do it for this edition of the Checko Daily. Again,
- 8:44I am Andrew Dechecko signing off and I'll catch you
- 8:46on the next one.
