- 0:01Speaker 1: Lone from the Sky New Center. This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me for another week here on the
- 0:09Speaker 2: Kenny Report, the anniversary of October the seventh, I'll look
- 0:13Speaker 2: at the hatred on our streets and the weakness from
- 0:15Speaker 2: our government.
- 0:16Speaker 1: One year on.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I'll cross to events around the country and to the
- 0:20Speaker 2: Middle East as Israel continues to fight for its very
- 0:23Speaker 2: survival against terrorist outfits and Iran. I'll also look at
- 0:28Speaker 2: the cost of living crisis with a terrific panel and
- 0:31Speaker 2: media issues with Sophie Orsworth.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let's get started.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Today is an almost inconceivable anniversary, one year on from
- 0:43Speaker 2: the October the seventh atrocity. Let's think about one family,
- 0:48Speaker 2: the Bibas family, who lived on the near Os Kibbutz
- 0:51Speaker 2: in southern Israel. Here is mother Shari clutching her two
- 0:56Speaker 2: boys as they were all taken hostage by terrorists on
- 1:01Speaker 2: October the seventh. Kafir was only nine months old and
- 1:05Speaker 2: his brother Ariel was then four years old.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I've seen video footage of this kidnapping.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Shari, the terrified mother holding tight to her boys in terror,
- 1:15Speaker 2: surrounded by armed monsters taking them to who knows where.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Shari's husband Yarden was wounded in the head and also
- 1:24Speaker 2: taken hostage. Separately, her parents, the boys' grandparents were murdered.
- 1:30Speaker 2: The Israeli Defense Force verified video of Shari and her
- 1:34Speaker 2: boys alive in Gaza not long after the kidnapping. Humas
- 1:38Speaker 2: later claimed they'd been killed by Israeli bombs. Then some
- 1:42Speaker 2: freed hostages reported seeing them alive. Right now, no one knows.
- 1:48Speaker 2: One year on, a full year on, no one knows
- 1:52Speaker 2: their fate. The Bibas family and ninety seven other hostages
- 1:58Speaker 2: remain unaccounted for. We know some are alive, perhaps more
- 2:03Speaker 2: than half of them. No one knows for sure who
- 2:06Speaker 2: takes hostages, Who takes infants, children and mothers as hostages?
- 2:14Speaker 2: What kind of a global and national debate do we
- 2:17Speaker 2: have when their fate is not the number one priority,
- 2:21Speaker 2: the first precondition for any talk of cease fires or
- 2:25Speaker 2: peace or resolutions. I put this badge of solidarity between
- 2:29Speaker 2: Australia and Israel on my little pel on this show
- 2:32Speaker 2: on the sixth month anniversary of October the seventh. I said,
- 2:35Speaker 2: then I'd leave it on until all the hostages have
- 2:38Speaker 2: been returned. It's unforgivable and sickening to think It's now
- 2:42Speaker 2: been a year of hell for those hostages, for their families,
- 2:47Speaker 2: for their friends, and for their nation. Another inconceivable fact
- 2:53Speaker 2: has come to our attention thanks to Janet Oldbrickson, writing
- 2:56Speaker 2: in The Australian on the weekend. She tried to find
- 2:59Speaker 2: out how how many Labour MPs, including the Prime Minister
- 3:03Speaker 2: and Foreign Minister, had seen the video evidence of the
- 3:07Speaker 2: Hamas atrocities. Now I've seen much of this. It's horrendous
- 3:11Speaker 2: barbarity and it's real life trauma and I'm never going
- 3:15Speaker 2: to be able to unremember it. I believed it was
- 3:18Speaker 2: my duty to watch a lot of this to understand
- 3:21Speaker 2: what had happened, in order to report on it properly
- 3:23Speaker 2: and also satisfy myself the claims that were being made
- 3:26Speaker 2: were accurate. But it seems from the non answers given
- 3:30Speaker 2: to Albrickson that our Prime Minister and Foreign Minister have
- 3:35Speaker 2: not seen this evidence.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm astonished, I'm.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Staggered there wasn't a special viewing for the National Security
- 3:44Speaker 2: Committee of Cabinet. It's an absolute abrogation of their responsibility
- 3:48Speaker 2: not to view this crucial evidence, this gut wrenching reality.
- 3:53Speaker 1: You can't understand what's gone on.
- 3:56Speaker 2: You can't comprehend Israel's terror and you can't realize the
- 4:00Speaker 2: hollowness of the claims made by the terrorists and their
- 4:03Speaker 2: activist allies without.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Seeing what they did.
- 4:08Speaker 2: This wasn't resistance in the name of a Palestinian statehood.
- 4:12Speaker 2: This wasn't part of a people's uprising. This was an
- 4:17Speaker 2: Islamist extremist blood bath, an orgy of violence and hatred
- 4:22Speaker 2: that was perpetrated to inflict horror on Israel and to
- 4:26Speaker 2: incite a war in Gaza that would inflict hardship and
- 4:29Speaker 2: casualties on Palestinians. Now, wonder Alberanesian wong don't understand what's
- 4:35Speaker 2: at stake? Now, wonder they see the issue Like our
- 4:38Speaker 2: university seminar on the aspirations of the Palestinian people, they
- 4:43Speaker 2: haven't even bothered to properly inform themselves. We know they've
- 4:48Speaker 2: failed the nation in their pathetic response to the conflict
- 4:52Speaker 2: and in their weak response to hatred and anti semitism
- 4:55Speaker 2: here in Australia, But it's even worse than we thought
- 5:00Speaker 2: a full year on. They've kept themselves deliberately ignorant. In
- 5:09Speaker 2: the past year, this country has gone backwards. We have
- 5:13Speaker 2: retreated on our national values, cowered in the face of
- 5:17Speaker 2: Islamist extremism and anti due hatred, and become more.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Divided as a result.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Our governments, state and federal, and our police forces, state
- 5:27Speaker 2: and federal have let us down. Instead of standing up
- 5:31Speaker 2: for Israel and for Jews, instead of standing up for
- 5:34Speaker 2: humanity over brutality, and instead of drawing a clear line
- 5:38Speaker 2: between right and wrong, they've been paranoid about the possibility
- 5:42Speaker 2: of offending Muslim Australians or supporters of a Palestinian state.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Never mind that the.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Celebrations of the slaughter of inner city Israelis began on
- 5:53Speaker 2: our streets long before any response from Israel's defense forces.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Never mind that the protests again against Israel and the
- 6:01Speaker 2: chance against Jews, started while bodies were still being recovered,
- 6:05Speaker 2: and again before any military response from Israel. Despite the
- 6:10Speaker 2: hatred and the threats against Jews in public, there were
- 6:13Speaker 2: no arrests or prosecutions. I've let it fester all year,
- 6:19Speaker 2: hatred on our streets now reaching the point where the
- 6:21Speaker 2: flag of the terrorist group Hezbollah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Has been flown.
- 6:26Speaker 2: A year ago, police in Sydney didn't arrest anyone chanting
- 6:31Speaker 2: against the Jews. But they arrested and took away a
- 6:34Speaker 2: man trying to waive an Israeli flag, an Israeli flag
- 6:38Speaker 2: to commemorate innocent people who had been killed, and just
- 6:43Speaker 2: to prove that we've learned nothing, just to prove that
- 6:46Speaker 2: it's only gotten worse. A Jewish man was arrested and
- 6:49Speaker 2: dragged away yesterday from an anti Israel protest for daring
- 6:53Speaker 2: to waive the Australian flag.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Our own flag is now a provocation.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Hatred goes unpunished, but you cannot fly the flag of
- 7:07Speaker 2: Israel or Australia in public. We are not the country
- 7:12Speaker 2: we once were. We're not the country we were when
- 7:15Speaker 2: Labor was elected. How much worse is it going to get?
- 7:24Speaker 2: And as if the anti Israel protests yesterday.
- 7:27Speaker 1: We're not bad enough.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Tonight, on the very anniversary of the October the seventh atrocities,
- 7:32Speaker 2: there are more protests by the anti Israel and pro
- 7:35Speaker 2: Palestinian groups and at Sydney's lakember Mosque, the fundamentalist Islamus
- 7:40Speaker 2: group his Bookteria, is involved. His Bookteria is banned as
- 7:45Speaker 2: a terrorist organization in a number of Muslim countries and
- 7:49Speaker 2: in the UK. But not here in Australia. One of
- 7:54Speaker 2: the speakers that the lakember Mosque will be shaik de dun.
- 7:58Speaker 2: You know the bloke that's celebrate the slaughter of innocence.
- 8:01Speaker 2: A year ago he called October the seventh a day
- 8:05Speaker 2: of triumph. How sickening this bloke, a religious leader, apparently,
- 8:12Speaker 2: is free to preach all the.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Hatred he likes.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Let me mention then a letter sent to the media
- 8:19Speaker 2: last week by the Imam's Council of Australia. Unbelievably, this
- 8:24Speaker 2: letter is a kind of warning calling for responsible reporting
- 8:28Speaker 2: on the anniversary of October the seventh. It cites all
- 8:32Speaker 2: sorts of codes and standards and says when the events
- 8:35Speaker 2: of October the seventh were carried out, multiple reports of
- 8:37Speaker 2: fake news were published worldwide, and the two page letter
- 8:42Speaker 2: says October the seventh carries significant emotional and historical weight
- 8:46Speaker 2: for many people. Therefore, reporting fairly and accurately is essential
- 8:51Speaker 2: when assessing the media's influential.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Role in shaping public opinion.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Well, I agree wholeheartedly that fair and accurate reporting of
- 9:02Speaker 2: October the seventh is crucial. For instance, too many people
- 9:06Speaker 2: talk about occupied Palestinian territories when Gaza was not occupied,
- 9:11Speaker 2: when Gaza was autonomous, run by Palestinians, and in receipt
- 9:15Speaker 2: of tens of billions of dollars of foreign aid that
- 9:18Speaker 2: could have been underpinning its economy and society, instead of
- 9:22Speaker 2: building terrorist arsenals and a network of terrorist tunnels beneath
- 9:26Speaker 2: civilian areas and schools and hospitals. We should have accurate
- 9:31Speaker 2: reporting of casualties too. It's a tragedy that any civilians
- 9:35Speaker 2: have been killed in Gaza, but the blame for that,
- 9:38Speaker 2: of course lies with Hummas for deliberately starting this conflict,
- 9:42Speaker 2: for deliberately hiding among civilians, and for firing its weapons
- 9:45Speaker 2: from schools and hospitals. Then there's the claims of genocide
- 9:50Speaker 2: by Israel. They are obscene. Humas and Hesbla are committed
- 9:54Speaker 2: to the genocide of the Jews. Israel's self defense targets terrorists.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We need accurate reporting of casualty numbers. The only ones
- 10:04Speaker 2: we get come via Hummus. They're not reliable. Even the
- 10:08Speaker 2: United Nations halved its estimate of civilian deaths a couple
- 10:12Speaker 2: of months ago, and the figures don't distinguish between.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Terrorists or humm Us soldiers. And civilians.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yes, we need more accurate reporting of all the facts,
- 10:22Speaker 2: like how some Hummus terrorists were on the United Nations payroll.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I'd like to share with you the most accurate reporting
- 10:30Speaker 2: of all the security camera footage and the videos recorded
- 10:34Speaker 2: by the terrorists themselves. This would ensure that people fully
- 10:38Speaker 2: understand the barbarity. Like the young woman I've seen running
- 10:42Speaker 2: from the Nova Music Festival running for her life, chased
- 10:45Speaker 2: by a terrorist with a gun. She saw her friends shot,
- 10:49Speaker 2: she fell down, and he caught up with her. I'll
- 10:52Speaker 2: never erase that vision from my mind. But I can't
- 10:55Speaker 2: show that horror. I can't accurately report that horror because
- 10:59Speaker 2: it's too garific to show her on her knees begging
- 11:03Speaker 2: for her life before he shoots her through the head.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I wonder if the Amma's Council can tell us how
- 11:09Speaker 2: to report this stuff accurately. I can't show you the broken,
- 11:13Speaker 2: naked bodies taken back into Gaza as trophies paraded to
- 11:17Speaker 2: cheering crowds. I can't show you the families held at
- 11:20Speaker 2: gunpoint in their own homes, with their dead relatives in
- 11:23Speaker 2: the next room, the fear in their eyes as.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They await their fate.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I can't show you the families wiped out in a
- 11:30Speaker 2: hail of bullets as they simply drive down the road,
- 11:33Speaker 2: or the others heard it down the street of their
- 11:36Speaker 2: neighborhood before being executed. I wonder how we report all
- 11:40Speaker 2: of this accurately when it's all too repugnant, too horrific
- 11:45Speaker 2: to broadcast. October seventh was one of the most vile, hateful,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and sickening terrorist atrocities of all time. There is no
- 11:55Speaker 2: political context that provides any excuse for.
- 11:58Speaker 1: This lack of humanity.
- 12:00Speaker 2: The only accurate reporting of October the seventh and its
- 12:03Speaker 2: anniversary is to point out the depravity, condemn all those involved,
- 12:08Speaker 2: and also condemn anyone who in any way seeks to
- 12:11Speaker 2: provide any sort of rationalization or justification. To do that
- 12:16Speaker 2: is to defy humanity and defy reality. The Imam's Council
- 12:21Speaker 2: will do this country a great service if, instead of
- 12:25Speaker 2: lecturing the media, it used the anniversary of October the
- 12:28Speaker 2: seventh to unambiguously denounce these atrocities and to advise against
- 12:33Speaker 2: the anniversary being used for anything other than the morning
- 12:37Speaker 2: of the Israeli victims.
- 12:39Speaker 1: It should also demand the unconditional.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Release of the hostages still held a year on, alive
- 12:45Speaker 2: or dead, and it should outright condemn the ongoing terror
- 12:49Speaker 2: being inflicted.
- 12:50Speaker 1: By Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Let's go to Canberra now and take up the political
- 13:00Speaker 2: aspects of this with the former Australian ambassador to Israel
- 13:03Speaker 2: now Liberal Senator for New South Wales, Dave Sharma. Dave,
- 13:06Speaker 2: thanks for joining us on this very important anniversary. I
- 13:11Speaker 2: want to go to the government's response here. You've been
- 13:14Speaker 2: involved in this as an ambassador. Now, of course you're
- 13:16Speaker 2: a political foe of the government, but it started on
- 13:19Speaker 2: October the seventh. We can put up this tweet on
- 13:21Speaker 2: the screen now from the Foreign Minister Pennywong, when even
- 13:25Speaker 2: as the word was still coming through about this atrocity
- 13:28Speaker 2: and Israel had not responded, her first call was for
- 13:31Speaker 2: restraint from Israel rather than to eradicate these terrorists. Of course,
- 13:36Speaker 2: do anything you can to stop this mayhem.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think that's right, Chris.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I think the rod set in from day one what
- 13:47Speaker 3: should have been an unqualified expression of sympathy, solidarity and
- 13:52Speaker 3: fulsome support for Israel to recover its hostages to our
- 13:57Speaker 3: shamus terrists from its community to recent here, its borders
- 14:02Speaker 3: instead contained coded language of blunt warning. And that pattern
- 14:06Speaker 3: has continued ever since. I mean, I think it was
- 14:09Speaker 3: John Howard after nine to eleven said, talking about our
- 14:12Speaker 3: alliance with the United States, said, now is not the
- 14:15Speaker 3: time to be an eighty percent. Ally, well, I think
- 14:18Speaker 3: we haven't even been an eighty percent of Israel through
- 14:20Speaker 3: this period. We've been a lot less than that.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we've been fifty to fifty at best.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And Anthony Albanezi all along has called for cease fires
- 14:29Speaker 2: whenever Israel has tried to attack its terrorist attackers like
- 14:33Speaker 2: Gehamas or Hezbala or even Iran here he was just
- 14:36Speaker 2: last week.
- 14:37Speaker 4: What we have called for consistently is for a de
- 14:42Speaker 4: escalation in the region. Along with our friends in the
- 14:46Speaker 4: United States and others, we issued a joint statement with
- 14:49Speaker 4: thirteen nations.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Joint statements thirteen nations, throwing our lot in with New
- 14:54Speaker 2: Zealand and Canada.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But again, never enough pressure on Iran.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Is there any logic reason not to be putting public
- 15:02Speaker 2: pressure on Iraq?
- 15:05Speaker 3: No, there isn't, Chris. This is what I find so perplexing.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I mean, you can put the shared values and shared
- 15:11Speaker 3: histories and people to people connections to one side, they're important,
- 15:14Speaker 3: but when you're talking in foreign policy terms, you're also
- 15:17Speaker 3: talking about national interests. Australia has a national interest in
- 15:20Speaker 3: seeing organizations like Hamas and Hesbel are destroyed and seeing
- 15:24Speaker 3: the Islamic Republic of Iran week These entities are not
- 15:27Speaker 3: our friends. They have done a mets harm to Australians,
- 15:30Speaker 3: to Australian national interest in the region. They've done a
- 15:33Speaker 3: mets harm to the prospects of peace in the region
- 15:36Speaker 3: and enduring settlement, a better future for Arab peoples in
- 15:39Speaker 3: the region. In the conflict between Israel and Iran, Israel
- 15:44Speaker 3: and Jamas, Israel and hesbela we should be backing Israel
- 15:47Speaker 3: every day.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Of the week.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not the difficult to work that out.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It's extraordinary to watch this.
- 15:52Speaker 2: It's so frustrating and depressing to watch this play out.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I want to show you what Anthony Albanezi hasn't been
- 15:58Speaker 2: heard from much over this weekend, but yesterday the Jeputy
- 16:01Speaker 2: Prime Minister of Defense, Minister Richard Miles was out. Here
- 16:04Speaker 2: is some of what he had to say.
- 16:07Speaker 5: And we've talked about the fact that Israel clearly has
- 16:10Speaker 5: a right to defend itself, and that does include a
- 16:13Speaker 5: right to respond, but the manner in which it defends
- 16:17Speaker 5: itself obviously matters.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Now much has been made of this day.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Is this a stronger line at all from the Albanese government?
- 16:27Speaker 1: No?
- 16:27Speaker 3: No, I think you've happened to stumble upon one of
- 16:30Speaker 3: the Richard Miles. I think his heart is in the
- 16:33Speaker 3: right place on these issues. Speaking genuinely here, I think
- 16:37Speaker 3: he is a supporter of Israel, but he's been imprisoned
- 16:40Speaker 3: in this rhetoric and framing of this government Penny Wong
- 16:43Speaker 3: in Anthony Albanezi, and he's I think he's trying to
- 16:46Speaker 3: sound as supportive as he can within these parameters they struggle,
- 16:50Speaker 3: and even then, of course they've got these standard formulations.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know, the people of Gaza cannot be allowed to
- 16:57Speaker 3: pay the price for the defeat of a mus to
- 17:00Speaker 3: defend itself, But how it defends itself matters. There is
- 17:02Speaker 3: always a caveat attached here to Israel's right to defend itself,
- 17:07Speaker 3: and it's effectively been stripped of any meaningful content whatsoever.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I mean, anytime Israel does anything, whether it's to try
- 17:15Speaker 3: and rescue itsign hostages. It's told to restrain itself, it's
- 17:18Speaker 3: told to de escalate, it's told to reach a cease
- 17:20Speaker 3: fire agreement. Who is this other party to the ceasefire agreement?
- 17:24Speaker 3: Is it the Iranians who just fired fired five hundred
- 17:27Speaker 3: ballistic missiles at Israel in the last six months. Is
- 17:30Speaker 3: it has below which continues to fire rockets. Is it
- 17:32Speaker 3: a mask which continues to hold hostages. It's preposterous to
- 17:37Speaker 3: be using this sort of language, this diplomatic speak, de escalation,
- 17:42Speaker 3: cease fires, when we're not talking about two conventional opponents,
- 17:46Speaker 3: and we're not talking about two sovereign states. We're talking
- 17:48Speaker 3: about a country fighting for its survival against organizations which
- 17:52Speaker 3: are ideologically committed to its destruction.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Well said David.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Thanks again for all the insight you've given nice on
- 18:00Speaker 2: this issue right across this long year. Thanks very much.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Liberal Senator there, Dave Sharma in Canberra. I just want
- 18:07Speaker 2: to go to some pictures now coming in from Israel.
- 18:09Speaker 2: It's just after nine o'clock in the morning in Israel
- 18:11Speaker 2: now on October the seventh, and commemorations have begun.
- 18:14Speaker 1: These are heartrending scenes of.
- 18:16Speaker 2: The Nova Music Festival site in southern Israel, where friends
- 18:20Speaker 2: and relatives there, as you can see, have gathered to
- 18:24Speaker 2: commemorate the almost four hundred mainly young lives taken.
- 18:28Speaker 1: At that festival. Some audio from the events just tragic.
- 18:48Speaker 2: The Australian eucalypse throughout that site, as you see so
- 18:50Speaker 2: often in the Middle East, and so many Australian connections
- 18:54Speaker 2: to that part of the world. That's now catch up
- 18:56Speaker 2: with Alex Alex Ritchin, who's from the Executive Council of
- 18:59Speaker 2: Australia and Jury. He'll be attending a vigil along with
- 19:02Speaker 2: Opposition leader Peter Dutton in Sydney tonight.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, Alex.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I think the new South Wales Premier Chris Mins will
- 19:09Speaker 2: be there as well.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Tell us first up.
- 19:10Speaker 2: If you can, but about the meaning of this anniversary
- 19:13Speaker 2: and what you'll focus on at the vigil tonight.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Well, this anniversary, it's a surreal moment for us. It's
- 19:24Speaker 6: difficult to contemplate that a year has passed since those days,
- 19:28Speaker 6: or that that day even transpired at all. You know,
- 19:30Speaker 6: we're watching it unfold in real time, receiving updates, seeing
- 19:34Speaker 6: footage and images of Shinny look her broken body being
- 19:38Speaker 6: dragged through the streets of Gaza, spat on and beaten
- 19:41Speaker 6: with sticks of numb eleven, you know, her Trackie's bloody
- 19:45Speaker 6: being dragged off to captivity by a smiling Humas terrorist.
- 19:49Speaker 6: These are things that belong to medieval times and we
- 19:51Speaker 6: thought would never come to pass again. And so this
- 19:54Speaker 6: day we mourn that loss, that horrific day, and we
- 19:59Speaker 6: also pray for the hostages. We still remember that one
- 20:01Speaker 6: hundred and one people remain in that captivity, remain in
- 20:03Speaker 6: those hellish conditions, and I feel like the world has
- 20:06Speaker 6: failed them.
- 20:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 20:07Speaker 6: We've had these tapid statements from Yuan leaders and from
- 20:11Speaker 6: around the world, and total in action by human rights
- 20:14Speaker 6: organizations who simply don't care for their fate. And it's
- 20:17Speaker 6: left to us, the decent, civilized people of this world,
- 20:19Speaker 6: to speak out for them. But nothing has happened. They
- 20:21Speaker 6: remain captive, and it's a travesty. It's a blood on humanity.
- 20:25Speaker 2: There's much about this that was predictable at the time, sadly,
- 20:29Speaker 2: but we knew, of course that sometime Hesbllah would turn
- 20:32Speaker 2: up their attacks from the north on Israel to capitalize
- 20:37Speaker 2: on the horror in the south from Hamas. We knew,
- 20:40Speaker 2: of course, that the political left and other political elements
- 20:42Speaker 2: would seek to turn the heat on Israel as quickly
- 20:45Speaker 2: as possible. Your country always gets that, but you still
- 20:49Speaker 2: must be shocked and reviled a year on to see
- 20:53Speaker 2: how little support there has been, especially from Western liberal democracies,
- 20:58Speaker 2: especially from the USA, the UK and Australia, where the
- 21:03Speaker 2: support has been has been insipid at best.
- 21:10Speaker 6: Well, the Jewish people know all about denial and historical revisionism,
- 21:14Speaker 6: but you're right, you know, it's one thing. Decades after
- 21:16Speaker 6: the Holocaust, anti Semites tried to wind back and rewrite
- 21:20Speaker 6: that history and deny the atrocities and the deaths of
- 21:22Speaker 6: six million people. But we're seeing this in real time.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Where the Hummas terrorists took bodycam footage, they shared WhatsApp
- 21:29Speaker 6: messages with their families saying I just killed ten Jews.
- 21:32Speaker 6: There was utter glee and rejoicing in the taking of
- 21:35Speaker 6: this life. And yet there are people among us, and
- 21:38Speaker 6: a sizeable number of people who deny it or claim
- 21:40Speaker 6: it was an inside job by Israel, or at best
- 21:43Speaker 6: say that yes, it happened, but Israel brought it upon
- 21:45Speaker 6: itself and deserved it. And you know, in terms of
- 21:48Speaker 6: world leaders and liberal democracies. In our own government, it's
- 21:51Speaker 6: been so equivocal and morally ambiguous what they've said, you know,
- 21:55Speaker 6: Dave Shaman, the previous segments that are really well, there's
- 21:58Speaker 6: always a statement of support for Israel, but a big
- 22:01Speaker 6: bud at the end of it. And when Israel is
- 22:03Speaker 6: fighting a civilizational battle with terror forces that we recognize
- 22:08Speaker 6: as such in our own country, we don't recognize them
- 22:10Speaker 6: because Israel asked us to. We recognize them because they
- 22:12Speaker 6: are a threat to our democracy, in our way of
- 22:14Speaker 6: life and our population as well. So let Israel fight
- 22:17Speaker 6: this battle. But it's been really disappointing, you know, how
- 22:21Speaker 6: morally shrouded everything has become.
- 22:24Speaker 2: What does the federal government need to do to reinstate
- 22:29Speaker 2: social cohesion at home and make the Jewish Australian community
- 22:33Speaker 2: feel safe in its own country.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Well, it needs to speak with clarity, needs to show
- 22:40Speaker 6: strong leadership. And throughout the last year there have been
- 22:43Speaker 6: certain positive statements by the government, including by the Prime
- 22:45Speaker 6: Minister in the last few days trying to dissuade people
- 22:48Speaker 6: from protesting on this day. But then you look at,
- 22:50Speaker 6: for example, the university situation which you and I have
- 22:53Speaker 6: spoken much about, you know, the sort of statements that
- 22:56Speaker 6: came from the Federal Education Minister, statements about Interfarta chance
- 23:00Speaker 6: and rivet to the CEA chants and the encampments and
- 23:02Speaker 6: all that nonsense. And in that ambiguity, in that weakness,
- 23:06Speaker 6: that's where these extremists thrive. They go as far as
- 23:08Speaker 6: they're allowed to go. So if our government starts speaking
- 23:11Speaker 6: with strength and clarity and showing clearly what side it's on,
- 23:14Speaker 6: things can change for the better.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Alex, thanks for joining us. I appreciate it, Alex Shrivchin.
- 23:19Speaker 2: They're from the Executive Council of Australian Jury ahead of
- 23:22Speaker 2: a special vigil in Sydney tonight that will be attended
- 23:25Speaker 2: by Peter Dutton and Chris Mins. Now coming up after
- 23:28Speaker 2: the break terrific panel with Caroline Usso and Christy mcsweeny.
- 23:31Speaker 2: We'll talk about a plan to give drugs free drugs
- 23:34Speaker 2: to addicts so they don't commit any crimes. Also, Donald
- 23:37Speaker 2: Trump returns to the site of that assassination attempt and
- 23:41Speaker 2: Elon Musk joins him. Panel coming up in just a moment,
- 23:48Speaker 2: but I want to take you to some live pictures
- 23:50Speaker 2: now from Lakember in southwest Sydney.
- 23:53Speaker 1: This is the Lakember.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Mosque where they are about to start a rally for
- 23:57Speaker 2: Palestine one year on from October the seventh. They are
- 24:01Speaker 2: saying one year of Resilience, but it's actually the anniversary
- 24:04Speaker 2: of when people left Gaza to slaughter innocent Israeli's more
- 24:08Speaker 2: than twelve hundred of them, two hundred and fifty one hostages,
- 24:12Speaker 2: one hundred and one of whom are still unaccounted for.
- 24:15Speaker 2: That is Lakember a live shot now we'll cross back
- 24:17Speaker 2: to that later in the program. Back to that site
- 24:20Speaker 2: and Kenny Heatley will give us an update as to
- 24:22Speaker 2: exactly what's happening at Lakember as we speak. Let's get
- 24:25Speaker 2: to our panel now and I'm joined by Sky News
- 24:27Speaker 2: host Carolin dur also in Perth, and Managing director for
- 24:30Speaker 2: PR Council in Melbourne, Christie McSwiney.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Thanks both for joining us.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Let's go to this issue of the anniversary and related
- 24:40Speaker 2: and related topics, because there's an opinion survey today, Chrissy
- 24:45Speaker 2: that shows sixty percent or most of Australians don't support
- 24:49Speaker 2: these street protests.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So the overwhelming majority of the.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Country don't like seeing these Palestinian or anti Israeli protests
- 24:58Speaker 2: on our streets.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Does that surprise you?
- 25:01Speaker 7: It doesn't surprise me at all. I think Australians are
- 25:04Speaker 7: well aware now that this humanitarian crissis has gone on
- 25:10Speaker 7: for over twelve months, that there are binary positions at
- 25:15Speaker 7: play in Australia, and that there are certainly binary political positions,
- 25:20Speaker 7: and people do not like to see the division on
- 25:24Speaker 7: the suburban neighborhood streets, and they don't like to see
- 25:29Speaker 7: protests that are obviously designed to cause the most harm
- 25:37Speaker 7: and make a point against Australia's not insignificant Jewish community,
- 25:42Speaker 7: particularly here where I am in Melbourne, and the police
- 25:47Speaker 7: forces at Victoria and New South Wales took the unprecedented
- 25:52Speaker 7: step this week of releasing a joid statement. And when
- 25:55Speaker 7: police start releasing statements together in cross border jurisdictions, it
- 26:00Speaker 7: says to be well, governments must be weak and police
- 26:04Speaker 7: are sick of getting the blame. And that signal was
- 26:07Speaker 7: to governments around Australia just as much as it was
- 26:11Speaker 7: to the public.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, well said when we see these protests, Cara, I
- 26:15Speaker 2: think we're going to remind ourselves too that there's no
- 26:18Speaker 2: suggestion or evidence that this represents the majority view in
- 26:22Speaker 2: the Muslim Australian community.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I mean, such a small number.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Of really radicals who are out there doing this, we
- 26:29Speaker 2: don't know how representative they are of the broader Muslim community.
- 26:35Speaker 8: No, absolutely not. And many Muslim Australians, just like the
- 26:39Speaker 8: rest of US Australians. You know, they're worried about housing,
- 26:42Speaker 8: they're worried about cost of living, They're worried about a
- 26:45Speaker 8: whole bunch of other things which impact them directly day
- 26:49Speaker 8: to day. And I'm pretty sure that that's where they
- 26:51Speaker 8: would prefer that. You know, our politicians and whoever else
- 26:57Speaker 8: is relevant is spending their time and their energy. The
- 27:01Speaker 8: importing of overseas regional conflicts into Australia is generally not
- 27:07Speaker 8: something that we're about in this country. That's the whole
- 27:10Speaker 8: reason why so many people want to come here is
- 27:13Speaker 8: to get away from this sort of stuff. And I'm
- 27:17Speaker 8: sure it isn't a representative view. I'm sure it doesn't.
- 27:21Speaker 8: Like with a great number of things, it's always a
- 27:23Speaker 8: small minority who tend to be very noisy.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Well, you mentioned the cost of living, Cary, Let's stick
- 27:28Speaker 2: with you and talk about that issue in the way
- 27:30Speaker 2: it's playing out interesting survey in the media today looking
- 27:34Speaker 2: at who's being hardest hit. Obviously it's tough for renters
- 27:37Speaker 2: and people who are paying off a mortgage, but unsurprisingly
- 27:41Speaker 2: those people who are homeowners who have a mortgage.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Are feeling it worse.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Renters might be frustrated about not being able to get
- 27:47Speaker 2: into the housing market, but they don't have the pressure
- 27:50Speaker 2: of the high interest rates that are really hurting homeowners.
- 27:55Speaker 8: Absolutely, and we obviously as a country, we increased rates
- 28:00Speaker 8: later we didn't want and we didn't increase them as
- 28:04Speaker 8: high as many other places around the world. But it
- 28:07Speaker 8: appears that they are going to hang around for a
- 28:09Speaker 8: little bit longer. And obviously the longer that interest rates
- 28:12Speaker 8: at this level hang around for, the more pressure that
- 28:15Speaker 8: that puts on everyday budgets. But it goes along with
- 28:18Speaker 8: a whole bunch of things, Chris, you know it is groceries. Look,
- 28:22Speaker 8: we have seen the oil price come down a little bit,
- 28:24Speaker 8: so there has been some relief as far as fuel goes.
- 28:27Speaker 8: But I know anyone who would have opened a recent
- 28:30Speaker 8: insurance premium would be wondering, Well, everyone keeps telling me
- 28:34Speaker 8: that inflation is going down, but I am pretty sure,
- 28:38Speaker 8: my insurance premium is going through the roof. So all
- 28:41Speaker 8: of those things all together concurrently are putting an awful
- 28:45Speaker 8: lot of pressure on household budgets and chrease. That is
- 28:49Speaker 8: what is at the front of mind for everyday Australians
- 28:53Speaker 8: and frankly it should be yeah, no.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Doubt about that, and insurance is one of the big rises.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I love the way the insurance companies like blame the
- 29:00Speaker 2: increases on climate change. They think that bullet prooves them
- 29:03Speaker 2: a bit, which is pretty transparent.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Chrissy. I got to get your thoughts from.
- 29:08Speaker 2: The People's Republic, the Democratic Socialist People's Republic of Victoria.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Another story out of there.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You were, like other parts of the country dealing with
- 29:17Speaker 2: drug issues and crime issues, but a Greens councilor from
- 29:20Speaker 2: the Yarraw Valley Council suggests, well, the way to fix
- 29:23Speaker 2: the problem with drugs and crime is just to hand
- 29:25Speaker 2: out free drugs.
- 29:28Speaker 7: Yes, absolutely, Chris. Now there are amazing ideas in the
- 29:36Speaker 7: pitches for the City of Yarra. The City of Yarra
- 29:41Speaker 7: has the great recognition of being the only Greens majority
- 29:44Speaker 7: council in Australia, first one ever. That was in twenty twenty.
- 29:49Speaker 7: It subsequently returned to something a bit more ballotced nineteen
- 29:52Speaker 7: and a half kilometers square here in inner city Melbourne,
- 29:58Speaker 7: and some of the fanciful pitch pitches to their constituents.
- 30:02Speaker 7: In terms of what people think is relevant, There's one
- 30:06Speaker 7: counselor who I read wants a return to fiscal responsibility, rights,
- 30:10Speaker 7: roads and rubbish. Congratulations to her. She seems to be
- 30:14Speaker 7: the only one who actually understands what local government is about.
- 30:18Speaker 1: There's a few.
- 30:18Speaker 7: Candidates who shock horror so that having a heroin injecting
- 30:24Speaker 7: unit next to a primary school is probably not the best.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Thing, probably not the best thing. Yeah, free drugs, honestly
- 30:31Speaker 2: unbelievable stuff. Now, I've got to get your thoughts on
- 30:33Speaker 2: this one, Caroline. When it comes to sport, our sports
- 30:36Speaker 2: Minister Anaka Well is always a good gig that you
- 30:39Speaker 2: get to go to the Olympics and whatever, and she's
- 30:41Speaker 2: been happy to get herself photographed with some of Australia's
- 30:44Speaker 2: most famous golfers and the like, but her personal social media.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Post has mocked golf.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Apparently, she has shown herself on the golf course and
- 30:52Speaker 2: says she's infiltrating the patriarchal spaces and it's so rewarding.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Is golf a patriarchal sport?
- 30:59Speaker 8: Caro, Well, I don't play it, Chris, because it will
- 31:04Speaker 8: not surprise you that I am not particularly athletic. That
- 31:08Speaker 8: being set, if that there is your way of getting
- 31:12Speaker 8: your exercise or whatever, go for it. Actually, some of
- 31:16Speaker 8: the most rabid golf players I know are women, and
- 31:20Speaker 8: in the professional sense, it's one of the most high
- 31:24Speaker 8: earning sports for female athletes. So how about maybe she
- 31:29Speaker 8: just kind of sits this one out. If she's not
- 31:31Speaker 8: the top of the tree, doesn't mean that other people
- 31:33Speaker 8: can't go and enjoy themselves. He's kind of cynical, mayopic
- 31:38Speaker 8: kind of view of the world looking for a burr in.
- 31:42Speaker 8: Everything is getting really really tiresome.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Just hit the ball, Just hit the ball and enjoy
- 31:47Speaker 2: the walk and leave your feminist politics behind.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I reckon just quickly.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I've got to show Donald Trump that he's had a
- 31:54Speaker 2: rally again at the precise place where the assassination attempt
- 31:59Speaker 2: happened a couple of months ago.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Here he is.
- 32:02Speaker 9: We love Pennsylvania. And as I was saying, oh, I
- 32:19Speaker 9: love that, I love that chart, I love that graph,
- 32:24Speaker 9: isn't it a beautiful thing?
- 32:26Speaker 2: And of course Christy, the reason he loves that graph,
- 32:28Speaker 2: it was just because when he turned around to look
- 32:30Speaker 2: at that, it's pretty much what saved his life.
- 32:33Speaker 1: But he's indefatigable, isn't he.
- 32:37Speaker 7: Oh look, I think that's what the kids say as
- 32:39Speaker 7: that's a flex so. But also Trump heavily tried to
- 32:45Speaker 7: keep the campaign narrative of immigration going and you know
- 32:49Speaker 7: what it's working for?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Yeah, how could it not. Thanks for joining us, Christy
- 32:52Speaker 2: and Caroline appreciate it. Catch up with you next week.
- 32:55Speaker 2: You gotta get to a break. On the other side,
- 32:56Speaker 2: we'll go live to our reporter at that pro Palestine rally.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Outside the and Sidney class, we'll head to tell Aviv
- 33:02Speaker 2: and find out how Israeli's are commemorating today's anniversary. I
- 33:10Speaker 2: want to go back a year, well almost a year,
- 33:13Speaker 2: and refresh our memories because I want to demonstrate that
- 33:15Speaker 2: the key points about October the seventh and the hatred
- 33:18Speaker 2: against Israel, well it was all clear at the time.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Ignorance was no excuse even back then, let alone now
- 33:25Speaker 2: a full year later. October seventh was a Saturday last year,
- 33:29Speaker 2: and my first editorial winter air here on Monday, October
- 33:33Speaker 2: the ninth. What we were seeing on our own streets
- 33:37Speaker 2: was already sickening. What we saw last night in our
- 33:41Speaker 2: own nation, in our own major city, on our own streets,
- 33:46Speaker 2: was reveling like this.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'm sight, I'm smiling, and I'm happy.
- 33:54Speaker 10: I'm in Naydon. It's a day of courage.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Elation, courage an Australian Muslim leader talking about the courage
- 34:21Speaker 2: of killing children, boasting of the courage to kidnap and
- 34:25Speaker 2: murder defenseless young women. Yeah, and even while that editorial
- 34:31Speaker 2: was going to air, that infamous protest at the Opera
- 34:35Speaker 2: House on the steps there was underway. Now, just to
- 34:38Speaker 2: be clear, this was on October the ninth, last year,
- 34:40Speaker 2: before Israel had fired a single rocket back into Gaza,
- 34:45Speaker 2: when the only victims were israelis Now. I said on
- 34:49Speaker 2: that night too that there would be attempts to make
- 34:51Speaker 2: this about Palestinian statehood. That would always be the claim
- 34:55Speaker 2: from the terrorists, but it was not their aim. Their
- 34:57Speaker 2: aim was to perpetuate conflict and make Israel a pariah
- 35:02Speaker 2: in the hope that one day they can eliminate Israel
- 35:05Speaker 2: and the Jews altogether.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Even a year.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Ago, the stakes were clear, along with the anti Israel agenda,
- 35:13Speaker 2: and this small but resilient nation finds itself fighting for
- 35:17Speaker 2: its very right to exist. Yet again, only strength can prevail.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Israel will have to root out Humas door by door.
- 35:28Speaker 1: But just you wait.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Within days, there'll be more criticism of Israel than of Humas.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And so it is, and our own government still doesn't
- 35:40Speaker 2: get it. Our Prime Minister has made himself scarce this weekend,
- 35:44Speaker 2: but he'll attend a vigil tonight in Melbourne, and he
- 35:47Speaker 2: put out this video message.
- 35:49Speaker 4: On the first anniversary of the October seven attacks. We
- 35:53Speaker 4: pause to reflect on the horrific terrorist a trosty that
- 35:57Speaker 4: reverberated around the globe. October seven is a day that
- 36:02Speaker 4: carries terrible pain, over twelve hundred dus diet more than
- 36:06Speaker 4: on any single day since the Holocaust. Today we reflect
- 36:10Speaker 4: on the truth about shared humanity, of the hope that
- 36:14Speaker 4: peace is possible, and the belief that it belongs to
- 36:18Speaker 4: all people.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Just words, just the bare minimum words.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Nothing from the PM about Israel's exexistential threat, nothing about
- 36:26Speaker 2: how Israel needs to eliminate the terrorists of Hummas and
- 36:29Speaker 2: Hesbillara and their Iranian supplied weapons trained on its civilians.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Day in and day out.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Nothing about getting rid of the anti Israel hatred on
- 36:37Speaker 2: our streets, promulgated by people pretending this is about a
- 36:41Speaker 2: so called Palestinian state, pretending Israel is some kind of
- 36:45Speaker 2: colonial power, pretending Israel is the aggressor.
- 36:49Speaker 1: All he does is call for ceasefires.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Albanesi rather than demand the end of Hummas and Hesbillara
- 36:55Speaker 2: and the insidious actions of Iran. Albanizi is way out
- 36:59Speaker 2: of his depth on this. You and perhaps the weakest
- 37:01Speaker 2: prime minister in living memory. In a year Australia has
- 37:05Speaker 2: not advanced one step forward on standing by Israel, on
- 37:10Speaker 2: standing up for liberal democracies and the international order, on
- 37:14Speaker 2: standing up for our national values, or on building social
- 37:18Speaker 2: cohesion in this country. We have gone backwards on all
- 37:21Speaker 2: of these. Our country is weaker and more vulnerable. That's
- 37:31Speaker 2: said straight to Lukember now in Sydney Southwest, where a
- 37:35Speaker 2: rally for Palestine and Lebanon is being held outside the
- 37:39Speaker 2: Lakember Mosque. One of the speakers will be the Shaikh
- 37:42Speaker 2: of de doone you just saw in that package. Our
- 37:44Speaker 2: senior reporter there is Kenny Heatley. Thanks for joining us, Kelly,
- 37:48Speaker 2: can you tell us about the numbers there and the
- 37:50Speaker 2: police presence and what you're expecting to unfold.
- 37:55Speaker 11: Yeah, that's right, Chris Well. The numbers are significantly less
- 37:59Speaker 11: than what even the organizers he were expecting. They were
- 38:02Speaker 11: saying to me before everyone started to turn up while
- 38:04Speaker 11: they were setting up, that there would be five to
- 38:06Speaker 11: ten thousand people. You know, we're seeing about one thousand
- 38:10Speaker 11: people max on the street.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Here that has been blocked off, but.
- 38:13Speaker 11: They're allowed to do that because this is an authorized
- 38:16Speaker 11: process by New South Wales police. Of course, there are
- 38:19Speaker 11: Palestine and Lebanon flags here. We're not seeing any hesblah
- 38:24Speaker 11: or terror related symbols from this particular crowd and that's
- 38:28Speaker 11: been the theme of the day here. Just swing around
- 38:30Speaker 11: this way. You can see a significant police presence in here.
- 38:33Speaker 11: Of course, even though this is authorized. We even had
- 38:37Speaker 11: the police helicopter overhead a short time ago says that
- 38:40Speaker 11: they're not taking any chances here.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Now.
- 38:44Speaker 11: This is peaceful and we're expecting it to be peaceful.
- 38:46Speaker 11: But you mentioned the Sheikh Ibrahim Dadoun who a year
- 38:51Speaker 11: ago was on the streets of let Ken but talking
- 38:53Speaker 11: about how he was elated that the attack on Israel
- 38:57Speaker 11: had taken place. Well, he spoke just moments ago, of course,
- 39:01Speaker 11: the usual rhetoric that we got that Western governments were
- 39:06Speaker 11: complicit injer genocide, and he urged people to continue their
- 39:11Speaker 11: activism until Israeli forces are defeated. Also a little bit
- 39:17Speaker 11: later on, starting soon, actually is that vigil that is
- 39:21Speaker 11: organized a town hall in the CBD on the other
- 39:24Speaker 11: side of town. That's an unauthorized event organized by Palestine
- 39:28Speaker 11: Action Group Sydney, which is the group that organized the
- 39:31Speaker 11: marches through the CBD yesterday and the previous weekend. Of course,
- 39:36Speaker 11: we'll have to wait and see how many people turn
- 39:38Speaker 11: out for that as well.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Chris Well.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Indeed, thanks so much, Kenny, appreciate it, Kenny Heatley. They're
- 39:42Speaker 2: live from lakember Mosque and that is quite heartening to
- 39:45Speaker 2: see how few people are there to hear the hateful
- 39:48Speaker 2: retoric from Shake Ibrahim to done. Most people obviously wisely
- 39:53Speaker 2: staying away from that event at this time, on this
- 39:57Speaker 2: shocking anniversary. That's now head of cross to Tel Aviv
- 40:01Speaker 2: and find out how israelis a coping with today's anniversary.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I want to catch up with Ari Gottisman who's a
- 40:06Speaker 2: photographer and videographer, joins us live from Tel Aviv.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us. Are we've seen the.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Pictures already from southern Israel from the site of the
- 40:15Speaker 2: Nova Music Festival, where there's a heartrending commemoration going on.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Tell us how the country is planning to mark this day,
- 40:24Speaker 2: how ordinary people are marking this day, given of course
- 40:28Speaker 2: in a lot of the country, you're also on the
- 40:30Speaker 2: alert for rockets that are still coming in, mainly from
- 40:33Speaker 2: the north.
- 40:35Speaker 12: Hey, Chris, Yes, thank you so much for having me on,
- 40:38Speaker 12: and thank you so much for setting this up with
- 40:41Speaker 12: the proper context of.
- 40:43Speaker 13: Highlighting what's going on on the streets around the world.
- 40:45Speaker 13: And the fact that you know, they view October seventh
- 40:49Speaker 13: as a victory, and they're leaded, and they're happy about
- 40:52Speaker 13: what they've done, and they continue this narrative of trying
- 40:58Speaker 13: to make us look bad and upheaval, when in fact
- 41:03Speaker 13: everything that they're accusing us of are exactly the things
- 41:07Speaker 13: that they've done. And in Israel today, we're looking back
- 41:10Speaker 13: over the past year.
- 41:12Speaker 10: We've seen, we've seen the.
- 41:14Speaker 13: Rhetoric that's been thrown at us NonStop, and we're just
- 41:19Speaker 13: in shock. When will the world wake up. When will
- 41:22Speaker 13: the world take these people up their word and understand
- 41:25Speaker 13: that they're not just coming for us, but they're coming
- 41:28Speaker 13: for them. They always say, first it's the Saturday people,
- 41:32Speaker 13: then it's the Sunday people. What's happened here in Israel
- 41:36Speaker 13: is going to happen in Sydney, It's going to happen
- 41:38Speaker 13: in Melbourne, and it's going to happen in London, New York, Paris,
- 41:41Speaker 13: all across the world if these radical people are allowed
- 41:46Speaker 13: to continue with their jihadist agendas and to spread them freely.
- 41:51Speaker 13: In Australia, you guys have laws against this type of
- 41:54Speaker 13: talk and against this type of behavior. In America, we don't.
- 41:57Speaker 13: In America, we have freedom of speech.
- 41:59Speaker 1: But in.
- 42:02Speaker 13: Australia would have expected your Prime Minister.
- 42:05Speaker 12: To have had the courage to say, people who talk
- 42:07Speaker 12: like this can't speak it a rally. People who talk
- 42:10Speaker 12: like this can't be out on the streets and can't
- 42:13Speaker 12: be spreading this hatred and this vitual just without any accountability.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Ari, there's so much in that.
- 42:21Speaker 2: At one point I want to pick up it's so
- 42:23Speaker 2: true you made the comment that we should take these
- 42:26Speaker 2: terrorists at their word.
- 42:29Speaker 1: That's so powerful. That's so true, that's so obvious. We
- 42:32Speaker 1: don't have to pretend or we don't.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Have to fabricate what Hamas or Hezbollah, or indeed the
- 42:38Speaker 2: Iranian leadership want. They say it explicitly. They want the
- 42:42Speaker 2: eradication of Israel and Jews. So just believe them. They
- 42:46Speaker 2: say it and their actions betray it. Why should there
- 42:49Speaker 2: be any doubt about it?
- 42:51Speaker 14: And make it clear, it's not just they wanted against Jews.
- 42:56Speaker 14: They wanted against Christians as well.
- 42:58Speaker 12: Okay, it's it's it's you know, we're both Dimmis.
- 43:03Speaker 13: We're both not at the same level of a Muslim.
- 43:07Speaker 14: We're both to be subjugated to the will of Allah
- 43:10Speaker 14: and to the will of Islam.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Is Israel.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Israel is the canary in the coal mine for all
- 43:17Speaker 2: of Western liberal democracies, and people need to understand that.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Thanks thanks so much for joining us.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Are I appreciate it, Harry Godismond, they're alive from Tel Aviv.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I want to stay in that part of the world.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Down and catch up again with the professor of politics
- 43:30Speaker 2: at Bar Elam University, Gerald Steinberg. Thanks for joining us again, Gerald,
- 43:35Speaker 2: that we spoke to you last week. I just want
- 43:37Speaker 2: to get more from you about Iran and it's influence here.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I was reading today our former foreign minister. I think
- 43:45Speaker 2: he was quoting a discussion with Benjamin Netanyahu. It's a
- 43:49Speaker 2: very very simple and direct observation that outlines why a
- 43:53Speaker 2: two state solution is impossible now because he says hez
- 43:58Speaker 2: Balara and Hamas are essential controlled by Iran. So if
- 44:02Speaker 2: you had a two state solution on the borders that
- 44:04Speaker 2: have been talked about in the past, you did actually
- 44:06Speaker 2: have a border with Iran by proxy right there in Jerusalem.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So a country that wants to eliminate you, what can
- 44:14Speaker 2: the world do to get rid of the insidious influence
- 44:18Speaker 2: of Iran?
- 44:21Speaker 15: Chris, your voice is one of the very few clear
- 44:25Speaker 15: voices that we've had. Understands the history, understands the details.
- 44:30Speaker 15: You're not talking slogans, You're not talking all sorts of
- 44:32Speaker 15: applying the sky illusions. Israel withdrew out of Naiveteu, out
- 44:37Speaker 15: of international pressure, out of internal pressure from Southern Lebanon.
- 44:41Speaker 15: In two thousand, we had a Prime minister of former
- 44:44Speaker 15: Chief of Staff Ahud Barak, who thought this was going
- 44:46Speaker 15: to be a magic solution. As soon as Israel pulled
- 44:49Speaker 15: out his Bala took over, UNISEF was created units so
- 44:52Speaker 15: our UNIFIL was created. United Nations Peacekeeping Force after a
- 44:56Speaker 15: two thousand and six war against the same Kisbala people
- 45:00Speaker 15: who took over, who killed, who kidnapped Israeli victims back
- 45:05Speaker 15: And that was no eighteen years ago. And then there
- 45:08Speaker 15: was a war that lasted for a number of weeks,
- 45:10Speaker 15: and the international community all said, all Israel's got to stop,
- 45:13Speaker 15: We've got to reach an agreement. We have to live
- 45:16Speaker 15: with Krizbala, which is controlled by Iran. It's an Iranian
- 45:19Speaker 15: proxy terror force that controls all of Lebanon. That was
- 45:24Speaker 15: eighteen years ago. The United Nations did nothing. So you
- 45:27Speaker 15: know that when Israel withdraws from territory, you get mass terrorism,
- 45:31Speaker 15: you get atrocities. In two thousand and fifteen. In two
- 45:34Speaker 15: thousand and five, Israel withdrew from Gaza and said to
- 45:37Speaker 15: the Palestinians and Gaza, you take over, you run your lives,
- 45:40Speaker 15: you can build, start to build the state. We can
- 45:42Speaker 15: reach a piece agreement.
- 45:44Speaker 1: We'll show that.
- 45:44Speaker 15: As a demonstration towards this myth of a two states solution.
- 45:49Speaker 15: So Israel withdrew from Gaza, from all of Gaza, all
- 45:52Speaker 15: military or civilian everything. In two thousand and five, and
- 45:55Speaker 15: less than twenty years later we have this huge infrastructure
- 45:59Speaker 15: that Kamas built and the international community was completely aware of.
- 46:02Speaker 15: Your tax money goes to UNRA. Your tax money in
- 46:06Speaker 15: hundreds of millions of Australian and other dollars, like other countries,
- 46:10Speaker 15: goes to the United Nations Refugee Group that's supposed to
- 46:13Speaker 15: help the poor Palestinians who've been quote refugees for seventy
- 46:17Speaker 15: six years. In nineteen forty eight, what do they do
- 46:19Speaker 15: with the money? They've built this massive concrete underground structure
- 46:24Speaker 15: that is used completely for terrorism that Israel has to
- 46:26Speaker 15: own up root in Lebanon. Kisbala, with Iranian aid, built
- 46:31Speaker 15: this huge underground structure. Kisbala sent nine thousand rocks and
- 46:35Speaker 15: missiles against Israel to kill Israelis since October eighth. All
- 46:39Speaker 15: of this is being run from Tehran by the regime.
- 46:42Speaker 15: There So, the idea that somehow there's a magic two
- 46:46Speaker 15: state formula a solution, that word right there is extremely misleading.
- 46:52Speaker 15: Something has to be change in the understanding of the
- 46:55Speaker 15: people who make policies, including as you pointed out in Australia.
- 46:58Speaker 15: Whether it's ignorance, it's willful ignorance, whether it's just ideology,
- 47:02Speaker 15: whether it's a cow twing to the kat Irons of
- 47:05Speaker 15: the Arab oil money, all those things have to be
- 47:07Speaker 15: addressed directly because if this continues, it will in golf
- 47:10Speaker 15: the entire world in a massive war.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Thanks for explaining it also concisely, Gerald, I appreciate your
- 47:17Speaker 2: time on this tragic anniversary. Gerald Steinberg there, professor of
- 47:20Speaker 2: Politics at bar Ilam University.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I've got to get to a break. On the other side,
- 47:24Speaker 1: we'll catch up with media issues and Sophiel's Worth. We'll
- 47:26Speaker 1: talk about the ABC.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Scrambling to get their story straight over accusations the broadcaster
- 47:31Speaker 2: has been sympathetic towards Hebllah.
- 47:38Speaker 1: I'm joined as everyone on Monday by a media writer
- 47:40Speaker 1: for The Australian, Sofiel's Worth live from Melbourne. Thanks for
- 47:43Speaker 1: joining us, Sophie.
- 47:44Speaker 2: In keeping with today's horrible anniversary, you've got a couple
- 47:48Speaker 2: of yarns on the ABC where they're struggling to sort
- 47:52Speaker 2: of get their line on length right on Middle Eastern issues.
- 47:57Speaker 16: Well, they certainly are. Chris and last week had a
- 48:00Speaker 16: directive scent to staff explaining how to describe the war
- 48:05Speaker 16: in the Middle East, and very very lengthy details of
- 48:09Speaker 16: what language they should use. Now we know the ABC
- 48:13Speaker 16: has been caught up just in the last week Chris,
- 48:15Speaker 16: with some of the language that its reporters have been using,
- 48:18Speaker 16: including at that press conference with Peter Dutton. So they've
- 48:21Speaker 16: been given pretty strict instructions on how to report on
- 48:25Speaker 16: the wall.
- 48:26Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 2: So there have been reporters who have been accused of
- 48:29Speaker 2: being too sympathetic to Hesbalara, and that's lead to led
- 48:32Speaker 2: to some changes in those stories. And also there's a
- 48:36Speaker 2: directive to talk about what Israel is doing in southern
- 48:38Speaker 2: Lebanon as a ground invasion, a land invasion of Lebanon,
- 48:43Speaker 2: where Israel is quite clearly going into knockout Hesbala installations.
- 48:48Speaker 2: It doesn't want to be there, it's not trying to
- 48:49Speaker 2: take over Lebanon.
- 48:53Speaker 16: Well, this has been met with a lot of criticism
- 48:56Speaker 16: this move by the ABC using this language, it's been
- 48:59Speaker 16: just described basically is inflammatory language and needs a lot
- 49:03Speaker 16: of context. Chris, But the ABC do need to be
- 49:07Speaker 16: very careful because the complaints are for stories relating to
- 49:11Speaker 16: what's happening in Israel. Have been making up the largest
- 49:16Speaker 16: component of their complaints in the last six months, so
- 49:19Speaker 16: staff need to be put on high alert because also
- 49:23Speaker 16: we know some of them do take an activist route
- 49:25Speaker 16: and you can sometimes see that in their reporting.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Yeah you can, indeed, Sophie, thanks so much for joining us,
- 49:31Speaker 2: so I appreciate it.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Sophr's worth the read her stuff in the Australian.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Just a time for a little bit of your feedback
- 49:36Speaker 2: on this particular issue and what I was saying about.
- 49:38Speaker 1: It last week.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Brad writes, the West so called leadership is the equivalent
- 49:42Speaker 2: of saying let's all hold hands and sing kumbai h.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that ain't going to cut it.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Robert writes, how can anyone march against Israel? What if
- 49:50Speaker 2: one of the victims was your family member? And another
- 49:53Speaker 2: viewer says, I'm Israeli. We just want to live in peace,
- 49:56Speaker 2: in a place where people don't kill us.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Why is that so hard?
- 50:00Speaker 2: Indeed, and one more, another viewer says, as in ISRAELI,
- 50:03Speaker 2: thank you so much for speaking the truth. It's good
- 50:06Speaker 2: that people get to see our stuff in Israel. It's
- 50:09Speaker 2: great that we have guests from there today as well.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me. Here's a Peter quadn I'll see
- 50:14Speaker 2: you tomorrow
