- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and today we're going to do something a little different. We're taking a walk in the park. Luna: A walk in the park? Oh, I love that. Are we going to learn some nature words? Like trees and flowers? Lucas: Exactly. And a park has some pretty useful words. Let's start with the basics. The word for tree in Dutch is de boom. De boom. Luna: De boom. That sounds a bit like 'boom' in English, which also means a loud sound, but here it's a tree. Cute. Lucas: Right. And it's a de-word, so we say de boom. Can you say that again? Luna: De boom. De boom. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's add a bench. In Dutch, that's de bank. De bank. Luna: De bank. Wait, that's also the word for bank, like a financial bank, right? Lucas: Yes, it's the same word. Context tells you if it's a bench or a place where you get money. But in the park, it's a bench. De bank. Luna: De bank. Okay, so I can say, 'Ik zit op de bank.' That means 'I sit on the bench.' Lucas: That's right. Ik zit op de bank. Let's break that down. Ik means 'I', zit means 'sit', op means 'on', and de bank is 'the bench'. So together, Ik zit op de bank. Luna: Ik zit op de bank. I'm sitting on the bench. That's a nice sentence. I can picture myself in a sunny park, just relaxing. Lucas: And next to that bench, there's probably a flower. In Dutch, that's de bloem. De bloem. Luna: De bloem. That's a pretty word. De bloem. It sounds soft. Lucas: It does. And we can make a lovely sentence: De bloem is mooi. That means 'The flower is beautiful.' De bloem is mooi. Luna: De bloem is mooi. I love that. So if I see a pretty flower, I can say, 'De bloem is mooi.' Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice all three words together. We have de boom, de bank, and de bloem. Can you say them in a row? Luna: Sure. De boom, de bank, de bloem. That's like a little rhythm. De boom, de bank, de bloem. Lucas: Nice. Now let's put them into a tiny scene. Imagine you're walking in the park with a friend. You point to a tree and say, 'Kijk, de boom.' Luna: Kijk, de boom. Look, the tree. That's easy. Lucas: Then you see a bench and say, 'Daar is de bank.' Luna: Daar is de bank. There is the bench. Oh, I like that. Can I try one? 'Ik zie een bloem.' I see a flower. Lucas: Perfect. Ik zie een bloem. That's a great sentence. You didn't even need me to teach it. Luna: Well, you taught me the word. I just put it together. But I want to practice more. Let's do a quick drill. Lucas: Alright. I'll say the English, you say the Dutch. Ready? Bench. Luna: De bank. Lucas: Flower. Luna: De bloem. Lucas: Tree. Luna: De boom. Lucas: Great. Now let's do a sentence. 'The flower is beautiful.' Luna: De bloem is mooi. Lucas: Excellent. And 'I sit on the bench.' Luna: Ik zit op de bank. Lucas: You're nailing this. Now, let's bring it all together with a little story. Picture this: we're in a park, and you see a beautiful flower. You say, 'De bloem is mooi.' Luna: De bloem is mooi. Lucas: Then you walk over to a bench and say, 'Ik zit op de bank.' Luna: Ik zit op de bank. Lucas: And you look up at a big tree and say, 'De boom is groot.' That means 'The tree is big.' Luna: De boom is groot. Oh, that's a good one. So we have de boom, de bank, de bloem. And we can describe them all. Lucas: Absolutely. And you know, this episode is all about enjoying the little things. And that reminds me of something real. Luna: What's that? Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your Dutch, there's a way to keep it ad-free. A small group of listeners chips in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what keeps these episodes coming. Luna: Yeah, and I get it, every little bit helps. But let's get back to the park. I want to practice that sentence again. De bloem is mooi. Lucas: De bloem is mooi. Perfect. And remember, you can use these words anywhere. A garden, a street, even a picture. Just point and say de boom, de bank, de bloem. Luna: This was such a relaxing lesson. I feel like I just took a mental break. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: Anytime, Luna. And to all our listeners, practice these words with us. De boom, de bank, de bloem. See you next time. Luna: Tot ziens!
