- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello everyone, welcome to the NFL Weekly Preview on Inside
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Birds. I'm Jeff Mosher and away we go into
- 0:18Speaker 1: week three of NFL action. I feel like the early
- 0:22Speaker 1: theme so far is injuries. I mean, so many injuries.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Jackson Dart now out for a long time, if not
- 0:29Speaker 1: the year. Jaden Daniels out. Nick Bosa comes up with
- 0:32Speaker 1: a calf injury in the middle of the week in
- 0:35Speaker 1: practice and keys out there's just so many big time
- 0:39Speaker 1: injuries that are impacting these teams and i feel like
- 0:42Speaker 1: it's just more through two weeks or i guess through
- 0:47Speaker 1: two and a half going into week three than i
- 0:50Speaker 1: can ever remember uh this early in the season i
- 0:54Speaker 1: mean i mean especially at the quarterback position really stinks
- 0:57Speaker 1: when you have so much anticipation and hope whether you're
- 1:02Speaker 1: the giants whether the the Commanders or anybody else who's,
- 1:05Speaker 1: you know, the Falcons obviously just finally got their quarterback back.
- 1:08Speaker 1: We'll talk about that. But, you know, you go into
- 1:10Speaker 1: a season and you're hoping to start off on a
- 1:12Speaker 1: good foot and bam, you get a quarterback injury. And
- 1:15Speaker 1: obviously that'll impact most likely the Eagles game Monday night
- 1:19Speaker 1: against the Bears who saw Caleb Williams go down. And
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's just tough. And I think for most NFL viewers
- 1:26Speaker 1: who like to watch games outside of the team that
- 1:28Speaker 1: they root for, you want to watch games other games
- 1:32Speaker 1: and see other quarterbacks healthy and see these teams at
- 1:35Speaker 1: their best. So it's, it's really tough when major injuries
- 1:39Speaker 1: impact both teams. And that really brings us to the
- 1:43Speaker 1: Thursday night game. The Falcons have, listen, give them a
- 1:47Speaker 1: lot of credit. It is very difficult and we'll get
- 1:50Speaker 1: to green Bay's issues in a second. Very, very difficult
- 1:54Speaker 1: to go in to Green Bay and win. And not
- 1:57Speaker 1: only that, for the Falcons, who had started off 0-2,
- 2:01Speaker 1: having to start their third-string quarterback, Cooper Rush, they get
- 2:04Speaker 1: Penix back, and he gets intercepted really early in the game.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And you're thinking it's the same old Falcons, but obviously
- 2:14Speaker 1: things turn around. They get an unbelievable... Run game, rushing
- 2:18Speaker 1: effort out of Bijan Robinson. He gets almost 200 yards
- 2:22Speaker 1: on the ground. He scores twice, catches a couple of balls.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And that was really enough for Penix to get settled.
- 2:30Speaker 1: He had a really good running game. You know Kevin
- 2:32Speaker 1: Stefanski's going to do that. He's been playing a lot
- 2:34Speaker 1: of 12 and 13 personnel this year, two tight ends,
- 2:37Speaker 1: three tight ends. Really got that run game established. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: then it wasn't much for Penix. It was really just
- 2:43Speaker 1: the Penix and Drake London show because Drake– London had
- 2:47Speaker 1: nine catches and Pennix only had 18 completions. So when
- 2:52Speaker 1: you get a 50%, not target rate, but pass catch
- 2:58Speaker 1: rate off your quarterback's attempts, you know you're pretty important.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And London had a bad first two weeks. Really wasn't
- 3:05Speaker 1: his fault. It was Cooper Rush. Some of it was
- 3:08Speaker 1: opponent driven. But for the Falcons to go up into
- 3:12Speaker 1: Green Bay, where it is always tough to get a win,
- 3:15Speaker 1: always tough. and come out not just with a win,
- 3:19Speaker 1: but a 25-point trouncing, 21-point trouncing, that can help save
- 3:25Speaker 1: a season. And so they get their first win, one
- 3:27Speaker 1: and two, and they're probably feeling a lot better about
- 3:30Speaker 1: themselves because they get their quarterback healthy. And that's going
- 3:35Speaker 1: to be the key for every team. And they've got
- 3:38Speaker 1: a lot to find out here about Michael Penix, who
- 3:42Speaker 1: obviously had the injury last year. It wasn't like he
- 3:44Speaker 1: was lighting up the scoreboard. And this is just one game,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but obviously a very good first game for Michael Pennington
- 3:52Speaker 1: to get the Falcons right. Meanwhile, the Packers. So I
- 3:57Speaker 1: say it every week about the Packers. I trust them
- 4:00Speaker 1: as an organization to still be there at the end,
- 4:03Speaker 1: still contend for the postseason. I believe in their coaches.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I believe in Matt LaFleur as a play caller, as
- 4:11Speaker 1: a head coach. I believe in their organization as a
- 4:14Speaker 1: talent development organization. They have good players. But you cannot
- 4:18Speaker 1: deny right now that they are in a rut. They
- 4:21Speaker 1: should be 0-3. They were gifted that game against the
- 4:26Speaker 1: Jets where they were down 10 in the fourth quarter
- 4:28Speaker 1: because of some bad Aaron Glenn decisions that helped their comeback.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Or else they'd be 0-3. And they have some real problems.
- 4:38Speaker 1: They have an identity issue. We know Matt LaFleur loves
- 4:42Speaker 1: to run the football. He wants to keep a run-pass
- 4:46Speaker 1: ratio right in that 55-45 range, but he doesn't have
- 4:51Speaker 1: Josh Jacobs. Don't know when Josh Jacobs will be ready.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And his running backs right now are Marshawn Lloyd, who
- 4:58Speaker 1: had a third-round pick, but he's been hurt for most
- 5:01Speaker 1: of his career. He can't pass protect. And Caleb Johnson,
- 5:05Speaker 1: who the Steelers gave up on after one year. That's it.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That is their running game. right now. And on top
- 5:12Speaker 1: of that, they've got an average offensive line that has
- 5:15Speaker 1: already lost players. I just talked about injuries. All right.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Their best offensive lineman, his name is Zach Baco Buali.
- 5:23Speaker 1: If that doesn't sound familiar, it used to be Zach Tom.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Changed his name. He is their best offensive lineman. He's
- 5:29Speaker 1: out for a long time. So you won't be seeing
- 5:31Speaker 1: him for probably the year. He's out. Their guard, Aaron Brooks,
- 5:37Speaker 1: is out, who is just an okay guard to begin with.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Good for their scheme. but they are really hurting on
- 5:42Speaker 1: the offensive line. So when you're hurting on the offensive
- 5:45Speaker 1: line and you're below average there, you have a below
- 5:48Speaker 1: average running game, you see that you have to get
- 5:52Speaker 1: out of your identity. Jordan Love passed the ball 53
- 5:57Speaker 1: times against the Falcons. Part of that was because they
- 6:00Speaker 1: were down quite a bit. I mean, it was still
- 6:02Speaker 1: 17-7 at halftime, though. It wasn't like they were getting
- 6:05Speaker 1: the doors blown off them, and that game got ugly later.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But Jordan Love attempted 53 passes. Meanwhile, the Packers ran
- 6:13Speaker 1: the ball nine times. There is no way that Matt LaFleur,
- 6:21Speaker 1: in his wildest dreams, ever goes into a game thinking
- 6:24Speaker 1: he's going to throw the ball 53 times and only
- 6:27Speaker 1: run the ball nine times. That is the antithesis of
- 6:32Speaker 1: what Matt LaFleur wants to do. I mean, very few
- 6:35Speaker 1: teams have run the ball with the frequency and the
- 6:39Speaker 1: consistency and the efficiency of the Packers during the Matt
- 6:42Speaker 1: LaFleur era. So to see Jordan Love throw the ball
- 6:47Speaker 1: 53 times and the Packers run the ball nine times,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and by the way, they only get 17 yards on
- 6:54Speaker 1: those nine runs. You don't even have to you could
- 6:57Speaker 1: have just showed me that you don't have to show
- 7:00Speaker 1: me results. Just show me that the Packers ran the
- 7:03Speaker 1: ball nine times and threw the football 53 times. And
- 7:06Speaker 1: what I'll tell you is I don't care who they're playing.
- 7:08Speaker 1: They probably got their ass kicked and they did. And
- 7:11Speaker 1: I don't know how any of this gets better for them.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I don't believe there's a big fix for their offensive
- 7:18Speaker 1: line coming. And I, unless Josh Jacobs comes back and
- 7:22Speaker 1: really transforms that running game. And that's not going to
- 7:25Speaker 1: be anytime soon. I don't see a pathway for them
- 7:30Speaker 1: to get their identity back. They are going to have
- 7:32Speaker 1: to lean on Jordan Love and the pass game. And
- 7:35Speaker 1: Love's a good quarterback, but any quarterback with no run
- 7:38Speaker 1: game and no offensive line is going to struggle. So
- 7:43Speaker 1: you're going to see Matthew Golden and Christian Watson and
- 7:46Speaker 1: Tucker Craft catch a lot of passes, and they'll be
- 7:49Speaker 1: fantastic for your fantasy football league. But in real life,
- 7:54Speaker 1: when it counts... This is no good for the Packers.
- 7:57Speaker 1: They're in a lot of trouble. And remember, they still
- 8:00Speaker 1: don't have Micah Parsons. You saw how bad they were
- 8:03Speaker 1: on defense. They had no answer for the run game.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And then every time Pennix dropped back and threw to
- 8:09Speaker 1: Drake London, who was his only target in the game,
- 8:13Speaker 1: the Packers still couldn't stop it. They knew London was
- 8:16Speaker 1: the only guy who could do damage, and they still
- 8:18Speaker 1: could not stop it. So without Parsons, with all the
- 8:24Speaker 1: struggles on the offense, it's going to be pretty tough
- 8:26Speaker 1: sledding here for the Packers. And even though I always
- 8:30Speaker 1: say I expect them to get their act together by
- 8:33Speaker 1: the end of the year, they are going to struggle.
- 8:38Speaker 1: They've got some time to rest before they play a
- 8:40Speaker 1: Bucs team that could be 0-3 in Tampa in week four.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Then they'll have to play the Bears. We'll see if
- 8:46Speaker 1: the Bears have their quarterback back. Then the Cowboys, then
- 8:49Speaker 1: the Lions, Panthers, Patriots. I'm looking at their schedule today.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And they're going to have to get right quickly. They
- 8:56Speaker 1: are going to have to figure it out or their
- 8:58Speaker 1: season will slip away quickly. And that would be unfortunate
- 9:02Speaker 1: for them because they had a lot of belief in
- 9:06Speaker 1: themselves going into this year. And they should. They're in
- 9:09Speaker 1: the playoffs every year. But their personnel issues are bigger
- 9:12Speaker 1: than even I anticipated. All right, let's go to the
- 9:17Speaker 1: 1 o'clock games. And there's some interesting games on the slate,
- 9:20Speaker 1: especially because you have some teams right now and you're
- 9:23Speaker 1: trying to figure out who they are. You know, you
- 9:25Speaker 1: got a lot of one-on-one teams that you just don't
- 9:28Speaker 1: know yet. You have a few 2-0 teams that you're
- 9:31Speaker 1: really not sure if they should be 2-0. You have
- 9:33Speaker 1: some teams that have a losing record that you think
- 9:35Speaker 1: should be better. Okay, Chargers-Bills. 1 o'clock game in Buffalo.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Could be a great example. Bills 2-0 on fire. Josh
- 9:44Speaker 1: Allen playing every bit like the MVP that he could
- 9:47Speaker 1: be this year. Chargers, completely opposite. 0-2. And I wish
- 9:53Speaker 1: I could tell you the why. I cannot. But for
- 9:56Speaker 1: whatever reason, Mike McDaniel's impact. as offensive coordinator has been
- 10:02Speaker 1: the exact opposite of what I thought it would be.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The Chargers right now are one of the worst offensive
- 10:09Speaker 1: teams in the league. And they can't run the ball.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Everybody knows that Mike McDaniel is a brilliant run game
- 10:16Speaker 1: designer and O'Marion Hampton is in year two. The thinking
- 10:21Speaker 1: was with Joe Alt back and Rashawn Slater back and
- 10:24Speaker 1: their offensive line being more healthy than last year and
- 10:28Speaker 1: with McDaniel's impact on it that they would hit the
- 10:31Speaker 1: ground running. Well, they have not. They've hit the ground
- 10:34Speaker 1: running into walls. They average less than four yards a
- 10:39Speaker 1: carry so far through two weeks. And the passing game,
- 10:42Speaker 1: not much better as well. Justin Herbert has thrown a
- 10:46Speaker 1: lot of interceptions. This offense right now is a mess
- 10:49Speaker 1: and it's not supposed to be the kind of offense
- 10:52Speaker 1: that makes adaptation difficult. I mean, it's supposed to be
- 10:56Speaker 1: an offense that foundationally creates mismatches in the run game.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And you saw in Miami, I mean, when they were healthy,
- 11:04Speaker 1: when Tua was healthy, when Tyreek Hill was healthy, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: then they got Devon A. Chaney. I mean, they could
- 11:10Speaker 1: run the ball on anybody. And even when things were bad,
- 11:14Speaker 1: they would throw the ball to the running back. They
- 11:16Speaker 1: would be able to move the ball in a variety
- 11:18Speaker 1: of ways with the running back, the running game. The
- 11:21Speaker 1: fullback gets involved, but the Chargers are banged up. Their
- 11:26Speaker 1: offensive line has not played well. Their tight ends are hurt.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Kolar's hurt. Njoku's hurt. I think they're down to Aranda
- 11:34Speaker 1: Gadsen now, and he's really just a pass-catching tight end.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So they are a mess, but they are the Chargers.
- 11:40Speaker 1: They're well-coached. They have good players, and they go and
- 11:44Speaker 1: play a team in Buffalo that has absolutely started the
- 11:48Speaker 1: year on fire. You know the Bills had their big
- 11:52Speaker 1: win over the Texans in Week 1, and now they're 2-0.
- 11:59Speaker 1: They look good. They look very, very good. So is
- 12:01Speaker 1: this– Who they are, you know, they beat the Lions
- 12:04Speaker 1: 41-31 from the Thursday night game. So you look at
- 12:08Speaker 1: this game right now and you say the Bills are
- 12:11Speaker 1: smooth sailing to go to 3-0 and the Chargers might really,
- 12:16Speaker 1: really be in trouble if they fall to 0-3, especially,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, the Chiefs. We'll get to them in a minute.
- 12:22Speaker 1: The Chiefs have rebounded and looked pretty good. You know
- 12:25Speaker 1: the Broncos are going to be okay, and the Raiders
- 12:28Speaker 1: are off to a nice start. You can't fall too
- 12:31Speaker 1: far behind in their division. I mean, this is a
- 12:34Speaker 1: team that came in with some sky-high expectations and have
- 12:38Speaker 1: just fallen flat on their backs. Panthers at Browns. I'm sorry,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I never mentioned that the Bills, by the way, are
- 12:47Speaker 1: seven-point favorites over the Chargers. Panthers at Browns. The Browns
- 12:53Speaker 1: coming off their show everybody and stick it to the
- 12:56Speaker 1: world win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game that
- 12:59Speaker 1: got delayed by storms. The Bucs were driving there at
- 13:04Speaker 1: the end, but the Browns did hold on to win
- 13:07Speaker 1: the game. They get their first win. I can't lie
- 13:10Speaker 1: to show him Watson played fairly well in the game.
- 13:13Speaker 1: He's obviously going to be able to start at home.
- 13:17Speaker 1: where in week three, when everybody thought that the Browns
- 13:21Speaker 1: and Todd Munkin would be on to Shador Sanders by now,
- 13:24Speaker 1: but they do face a team in the Panthers who,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, rebounded from a horrific opening game loss to
- 13:32Speaker 1: the Bears. Everybody remembers they give up 59 points, and
- 13:35Speaker 1: then they beat the Falcons 34-3 last week. So... you
- 13:42Speaker 1: could see the difference, right? You play the bears, you
- 13:44Speaker 1: get your teeth kicked in, you come back, go to
- 13:47Speaker 1: the Falcons and you get a big win 34, three,
- 13:51Speaker 1: because you take advantage of them being on Cooper rush. So,
- 13:54Speaker 1: so that makes the Panthers. One of those teams that
- 13:56Speaker 1: I spoke about at one and one, you're still trying
- 13:58Speaker 1: to figure out their identity, but know this, they have
- 14:01Speaker 1: a new play caller. Brad Idzik, Idzik is their offensive
- 14:05Speaker 1: play caller. Dave Canales decided he was going to have
- 14:08Speaker 1: somebody else call the plays. And right now, Bryce Young,
- 14:12Speaker 1: is among the leaders in almost all of the passing categories.
- 14:15Speaker 1: He's got 648 yards through two weeks, six touchdowns, one interception.
- 14:20Speaker 1: They're letting him throw the ball. He's thrown the ball
- 14:22Speaker 1: well to McMillan. He's thrown the ball well to Jalen Coker.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And this is despite the fact that the Panthers have
- 14:28Speaker 1: had a beat-up offensive line. So, again, they gave up
- 14:34Speaker 1: a ton of points in week one to the Bears.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Maybe that was an anomaly. Their defense should be better
- 14:38Speaker 1: than that. They stomped on a Falcons team that you
- 14:41Speaker 1: really just don't know much about because Cooper Rush was
- 14:45Speaker 1: their starting quarterback. But the one constant has been they
- 14:48Speaker 1: can throw the ball. Now they're banged up at running back.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Chuba Hubbard is their starter. They had hopes for Jonathan Brooks.
- 14:55Speaker 1: He's hurt. It's going to be the Chuba Hubbard show.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But really for the Panthers, this is such an important
- 15:01Speaker 1: year for them to figure out if Bryce Young is
- 15:04Speaker 1: going to be their guy going forward. This is his
- 15:06Speaker 1: fourth year. Is he going to get an extension or not?
- 15:08Speaker 1: This is an enormous year and so far off to
- 15:12Speaker 1: a very good start. And I do like the fact
- 15:13Speaker 1: that Dave Canales gave the play who I like as
- 15:17Speaker 1: a coach, who I think he's done a pretty good
- 15:19Speaker 1: job with the Panthers. I like the fact that he
- 15:21Speaker 1: wasn't afraid to give play calling to somebody else. And
- 15:24Speaker 1: so far after two weeks, the returns under the new
- 15:26Speaker 1: play caller have been very good. All right. Jets, Lions,
- 15:32Speaker 1: another one o'clock game. The Lions are six and a
- 15:34Speaker 1: half point favorites. So, The Lions are six and a
- 15:40Speaker 1: half point favorites at home against a Jets team that
- 15:44Speaker 1: should be 2-0. The Jets gave away a victory last
- 15:48Speaker 1: week at home against the Packers because Aaron Glenn made
- 15:52Speaker 1: a couple of bad decisions at the end of the game.
- 15:55Speaker 1: He made a bad decision to not be aggressive offensively
- 15:59Speaker 1: and it bit him in the rear end when the
- 16:01Speaker 1: Packers were able to tie the game late in the
- 16:02Speaker 1: fourth quarter. And then in overtime, listen, I won't kill
- 16:06Speaker 1: him too much for overtime. Most teams want to give
- 16:10Speaker 1: the ball away first and have the ball second because
- 16:13Speaker 1: of the newer rule that gives each team a possession.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Most teams want to know what they've got to do.
- 16:21Speaker 1: So if the other team goes down and scores a
- 16:23Speaker 1: field goal, hey, all we need is at least a
- 16:26Speaker 1: field goal to keep it going or we can score
- 16:28Speaker 1: a touchdown and win the game. Or if the other
- 16:30Speaker 1: team scores a touchdown, then we know we've got to
- 16:32Speaker 1: score a touchdown to match it. I get that. I
- 16:35Speaker 1: understand that. Aaron Glenn– decided to take it first, okay?
- 16:40Speaker 1: And then the Jets offense, which is still not very good,
- 16:43Speaker 1: didn't do anything with the ball. And then, of course,
- 16:45Speaker 1: they lose when the Packers do. And so part of me,
- 16:50Speaker 1: all right, you want to take the ball first. You
- 16:52Speaker 1: want to be a tone setter. Maybe you want to
- 16:54Speaker 1: see if you can make a struggling Packers team match you.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I just don't think the Jets are there yet. They
- 17:01Speaker 1: haven't established themselves as good enough to be a tone setter. Um,
- 17:06Speaker 1: so it bit them in the rear end or else
- 17:07Speaker 1: they probably would have won the game. I was more,
- 17:10Speaker 1: more surprised by their lack of aggression at the end
- 17:12Speaker 1: of the fourth quarter when they had the ball and
- 17:14Speaker 1: then punted it away. Um, and Aaron Glenn said they
- 17:18Speaker 1: were playing for overtime. You know, I like coaches who
- 17:21Speaker 1: want to inspire a little confidence in their team, especially
- 17:24Speaker 1: when they're at home, especially when they had the lead. Um,
- 17:27Speaker 1: but what's done is done. They lost the game. Uh,
- 17:30Speaker 1: the jets have played fairly decently. You know, that, that
- 17:32Speaker 1: was a, a game where a lot of people probably
- 17:35Speaker 1: felt the Packers were going to roll them. Packers were favorite,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but they had a chance to win. Of course they'd
- 17:40Speaker 1: be Tennessee in Tennessee in the opener. So they're going
- 17:43Speaker 1: to go to Detroit and look, we'll see how Aaron
- 17:46Speaker 1: Glenn does here in year two with his ability to
- 17:49Speaker 1: get his team to respond. They are a little banged
- 17:52Speaker 1: up at the tight end position. They don't have a
- 17:54Speaker 1: very good back end of their defense and the Lions
- 17:57Speaker 1: are They can get on you really quickly. The Lions
- 18:00Speaker 1: are dealing with offensive line injuries. They have two starting
- 18:03Speaker 1: offensive linemen out. So that's a problem for them. But
- 18:07Speaker 1: when they're home and when they get that offense revved
- 18:10Speaker 1: up with Jameer Gibbs and St. Brown, Laporta, they can
- 18:14Speaker 1: be very hard to stop. And so that's the big
- 18:17Speaker 1: thing for Aaron Glenn, who comes back to Detroit where
- 18:19Speaker 1: he was their defensive coordinator for a few years. The
- 18:23Speaker 1: big thing for them is to figure out a way
- 18:25Speaker 1: to play defensively him and Frank Reich, right? They have
- 18:28Speaker 1: to play ball control offense. They've got to run the ball. Well,
- 18:33Speaker 1: they got to move the chains on third down. They
- 18:35Speaker 1: cannot give, turn the ball over. You can't give extra
- 18:38Speaker 1: possessions to the lions. And when lions have the ball,
- 18:41Speaker 1: you have to take advantage of the fact that they're
- 18:44Speaker 1: beat up on the old line. The Lions are also
- 18:46Speaker 1: beat up still in the secondary. I said last week
- 18:49Speaker 1: the Lions are going to have to outscore most of
- 18:51Speaker 1: the teams they play because they're bad on defense and
- 18:53Speaker 1: they have injuries there. The Jets, not so much because
- 18:56Speaker 1: the Jets really aren't capable of, in my mind, of
- 18:59Speaker 1: scoring a whole lot of points. So it's really, to me,
- 19:03Speaker 1: incumbent on the Jets in this game to ugly up
- 19:06Speaker 1: the game, to turn it, to get at Jared Goff,
- 19:09Speaker 1: to not let Gibbs and St. Brown have a bunch
- 19:11Speaker 1: of explosive plays, to... Just try to make the Lions uncomfortable,
- 19:19Speaker 1: which is very tough to do in Detroit on their turf.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So if the Lions can get a few explosive plays,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think they'll have a real chance. They have a
- 19:29Speaker 1: chance to roll on the Jets in this game. You're
- 19:31Speaker 1: looking for the Jets to keep this thing close and
- 19:33Speaker 1: try to ugly it up and see if they can
- 19:36Speaker 1: hang in there. All right, Texans at Colts. This is
- 19:39Speaker 1: a fantastic game in what you thought these might teams
- 19:45Speaker 1: might be before the season, but maybe not so much now.
- 19:50Speaker 1: as both of these teams are O and two, the
- 19:53Speaker 1: game is in Indianapolis. The Texans are one and a
- 19:56Speaker 1: half point favorites. The Colts have a lot of problems
- 19:59Speaker 1: on defense. All right. First of all, they've been starting
- 20:02Speaker 1: a lot of young kids. They got some rookies, got
- 20:04Speaker 1: some second year players that they're relying on. And you
- 20:08Speaker 1: can tell, I mean, they've, They've given up a ton
- 20:10Speaker 1: of points. They got shredded by the Ravens in week one.
- 20:14Speaker 1: They got shredded even more by the Chiefs in week two.
- 20:18Speaker 1: They can score, but their issue right now is on
- 20:21Speaker 1: the defensive side and the ball. And every game that
- 20:24Speaker 1: they lose, as far as they fall under. 500, remember
- 20:30Speaker 1: they ended last year on a long losing streak. It's
- 20:33Speaker 1: been a long time since they've won a game. And
- 20:35Speaker 1: with every loss that piles up for the Colts, The
- 20:39Speaker 1: newer owner, she's going to get more and more disappointed.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And it wouldn't surprise me if things continue to go south.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think you'd have to look at maybe Shane Steichen
- 20:53Speaker 1: and even the GM, Chris Ballard, probably more so him
- 20:56Speaker 1: than anything, as the first domino to fall this year
- 21:01Speaker 1: when the firings eventually start happening. Because it's been a
- 21:04Speaker 1: long time since the Colts have won a game. they've
- 21:07Speaker 1: made a lot of moves that have tried to position
- 21:10Speaker 1: themselves to win. They made the big trade for Gardner
- 21:13Speaker 1: last year. You know, they got Daniel Jones back from
- 21:17Speaker 1: his Achilles to start the season. A lot of people
- 21:19Speaker 1: didn't think that was going to happen, and they're still 0-2.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And now they're playing a Texans team who is– they've
- 21:28Speaker 1: been just disappointing. You know, they had a tough loss
- 21:31Speaker 1: in the season opener against the Bills, and I made
- 21:34Speaker 1: a point of saying– that if you looked and saw
- 21:37Speaker 1: the Dave Montgomery touchdowns, that their running game was going
- 21:40Speaker 1: to be essential to what they do. That was going
- 21:45Speaker 1: to be responsible for them being a better offense this year.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But they lost Jaden Higgins in the preseason for the year.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That was their number two wide receiver. And Nico Collins
- 21:56Speaker 1: did not play and may not play in this game
- 21:58Speaker 1: because of a hamstring. When Nico Collins doesn't play for
- 22:01Speaker 1: the Texans, they might as well just shut it down.
- 22:04Speaker 1: because he is their passing offense. I know that their
- 22:08Speaker 1: tight end Schultz had a bunch of catches against the
- 22:11Speaker 1: Bengals last week, but they didn't score any points. That
- 22:13Speaker 1: was a bunch of checkdowns. And if Collins doesn't play again,
- 22:19Speaker 1: that's a major advantage for the Colts. The Texans really
- 22:22Speaker 1: don't have anything. Nico Collins made his MVP case last
- 22:27Speaker 1: week by not playing because you see how bad the
- 22:29Speaker 1: Texans offense is without him. So if he doesn't play again,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and the Texans go to Colts without them and somehow
- 22:37Speaker 1: figure out a way to win without their top number one,
- 22:39Speaker 1: number two receiver, then again, the Colts, there's going to
- 22:44Speaker 1: be trouble in Indianapolis. The Colts almost have to win
- 22:46Speaker 1: this game. All right. That that's how much pressure there
- 22:49Speaker 1: is going to be on them to turn their season
- 22:50Speaker 1: around against the Texans team that, you know, the defense
- 22:55Speaker 1: just hasn't been great yet. And I can't figure out
- 22:58Speaker 1: why we got, You know, shredded, obviously, in the season
- 23:01Speaker 1: opener by the Bills. You could just cough that up
- 23:03Speaker 1: to Josh Allen. But, obviously, they did not perform to
- 23:08Speaker 1: expectation last week against the Bengals. They didn't get killed.
- 23:12Speaker 1: You know, they allowed 20 points. But, to me, that's
- 23:14Speaker 1: more of the offense not holding up its end of
- 23:16Speaker 1: the bargain. All right, Chiefs, Dolphins. I mean, the Dolphins are,
- 23:22Speaker 1: you know, home, and they're 10.5-point underdogs. Listen, say this
- 23:26Speaker 1: for the Chiefs, okay? Everybody, including myself, didn't have them
- 23:30Speaker 1: in the playoffs, counted them out, felt that the Broncos
- 23:32Speaker 1: and the Chargers were going to be the better teams
- 23:35Speaker 1: in the AFC West, that the Chiefs have no passing game,
- 23:38Speaker 1: which they still don't, and a young defense that really
- 23:44Speaker 1: is in transition. All of that is true, but you
- 23:48Speaker 1: can't discount the fact that Mahomes has played really, really
- 23:52Speaker 1: well coming back from the ACL. Five touchdowns, one interception,
- 23:56Speaker 1: amazingly good. He and Travis Kelsey continue to connect at big,
- 24:01Speaker 1: big moments. You saw it happen against the Colts last week.
- 24:04Speaker 1: They continue to move the chains on third down, even
- 24:08Speaker 1: though the Chiefs are not getting a whole lot out
- 24:11Speaker 1: of their other wide receivers. But I told you in
- 24:14Speaker 1: the preseason, when I did the show going into week one,
- 24:18Speaker 1: that the Chiefs are in transition themselves and that they
- 24:22Speaker 1: will run the ball with Kenneth Walker quite a bit.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I didn't say that Andy Reid was all of a
- 24:27Speaker 1: sudden going to become like Jim Harbaugh or Greg Roman
- 24:31Speaker 1: and start running the ball 45, 50 times a game.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Of course not. He's still Andy Reid. He's still going
- 24:36Speaker 1: to throw the ball. But through two weeks, Walker has
- 24:39Speaker 1: 47 carries. He looks great behind a much better offensive line.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Seattle was a better team. The Chiefs have a better
- 24:47Speaker 1: offensive line. So he's already got almost 300 total rushing yards.
- 24:52Speaker 1: He's catching the ball, had a huge– catch on a
- 24:55Speaker 1: beautifully executed screen that set up the game winner for
- 24:58Speaker 1: them against the Colts. And the Chiefs are 2-0. They're
- 25:03Speaker 1: playing a schedule because they were, I think, third place
- 25:07Speaker 1: in their division last year. They're playing a schedule that
- 25:10Speaker 1: lines up well for them. They're 2-0 with a road
- 25:12Speaker 1: trip to Miami. Okay, they should be 3-0. They'll have
- 25:15Speaker 1: the Raiders after that, 4-0. It gets a little rougher, Chargers, Seahawks, Broncos,
- 25:20Speaker 1: but then Jets, Falcons, Cardinals after that. I mean, the Chiefs,
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's lined up well for them to have a nice
- 25:26Speaker 1: comeback season if they can keep this thing rolling. And
- 25:29Speaker 1: they should be able to do it against Miami. The
- 25:31Speaker 1: only thing, sometimes these teams go to South Florida in September,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and it's just disgustingly hot. But it was pretty hot
- 25:38Speaker 1: in Kansas City week one. They were talking about all
- 25:40Speaker 1: the humidity there as well. So, I mean, the Dolphins
- 25:44Speaker 1: have– they're just talent deficient right now. They're basically trying
- 25:49Speaker 1: to get the number one pick. Titans and Giants– I
- 25:53Speaker 1: told you I thought the Titans were going to bounce
- 25:55Speaker 1: back after getting embarrassed by the Jets in week one.
- 25:58Speaker 1: They did. Had a chance to win that game against
- 26:01Speaker 1: the Eagles last week. But they showed you. They can
- 26:06Speaker 1: do some really good things up front on defense with
- 26:08Speaker 1: Jeffrey Simmons, with Johnson, their pass rusher they brought in
- 26:12Speaker 1: from the Jets. They have some other guys that can
- 26:14Speaker 1: rush the passer. They can do some things up front.
- 26:17Speaker 1: They are very, very weak at the linebacker and cornerback
- 26:21Speaker 1: and safety level. They were down a corner against the Eagles.
- 26:25Speaker 1: It was very obvious they could not stop the Eagles
- 26:28Speaker 1: in obvious past situations in the fourth quarter. Now they'll
- 26:32Speaker 1: face a Giants team that doesn't have what the Eagles
- 26:35Speaker 1: have and, of course, just lost Jackson Dart. The Giants
- 26:39Speaker 1: will be one of those teams that from week to
- 26:41Speaker 1: week now is going to be very difficult to figure
- 26:44Speaker 1: out because for as long as Jameis Winston is their quarterback,
- 26:49Speaker 1: they will have games where Winston goes out there and
- 26:51Speaker 1: throws for 350 yards and three touchdowns and moves the
- 26:55Speaker 1: chains and looks good. And then they will have weeks
- 26:58Speaker 1: where Jameis Winston gets intercepted three to four times and
- 27:02Speaker 1: gives short fields and the giants can't manage. They are
- 27:05Speaker 1: not good enough to handle that. And so there'll be
- 27:08Speaker 1: very volatile. You will not know which team you're going
- 27:11Speaker 1: to get from week to week basis. They're two and
- 27:13Speaker 1: a half point favorites because they're home. Um, But if
- 27:16Speaker 1: the Titans can play defense like they did against the
- 27:20Speaker 1: Eagles last week and not have a complete implosion, and
- 27:23Speaker 1: this time they're facing Winston, not Jalen Hurts, and this
- 27:27Speaker 1: time they're facing Giants pass catchers, not Devontae Smith. So
- 27:32Speaker 1: the Giants are two and a half point favorites, but
- 27:34Speaker 1: I would not be surprised if the Titans came out
- 27:37Speaker 1: of there with the win. Bengals, Steelers. The Steelers are
- 27:42Speaker 1: one and one, but let's be honest, their offenses look horrific.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers is looking every bit like a mid-40-year-old trying
- 27:50Speaker 1: to play. Their defense is very good. But, again, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 1: you get an opening week win over the Falcons that
- 27:58Speaker 1: was kind of meh, considering you were playing Cooper Rush
- 28:01Speaker 1: and the Falcons. You would have thought they would have
- 28:03Speaker 1: won more than 20-13. And then they get pretty much
- 28:07Speaker 1: embarrassed by a Patriots team in week two that still
- 28:12Speaker 1: isn't playing great, still having trouble on offense. But that's
- 28:17Speaker 1: the state of things right now for the Steelers. They're
- 28:21Speaker 1: really having some problems. And the Bengals are an improved defense.
- 28:25Speaker 1: They're 2-0. They beat the Bucs. They beat the Texans.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Their defense has forced some turnovers. Higgins and Chase have
- 28:37Speaker 1: been really good. They were excellent in the last game.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Chase just makes unbelievable catches. I mean, he is truly...
- 28:45Speaker 1: truly a special wide receiver. It's almost a shame that
- 28:50Speaker 1: the Bengals, because they haven't been good the last few
- 28:52Speaker 1: years because of injuries, they don't get on primetime very much,
- 28:56Speaker 1: but they've got some really good players. Obviously Burrow is
- 28:59Speaker 1: a great quarterback when he's healthy, but Chase is somebody
- 29:02Speaker 1: that I just wish the country had a chance to
- 29:05Speaker 1: see on primetime more because he's really good. And he
- 29:09Speaker 1: just makes some special catches. He had a beautiful twisting
- 29:13Speaker 1: kind of toe tap catch in the end zone. last
- 29:15Speaker 1: week that very few receivers can make um they should
- 29:20Speaker 1: beat the Steelers they are three and a half point
- 29:22Speaker 1: favorites but remember this is an AFC North game and
- 29:26Speaker 1: the Steelers have this weird this goes back to last
- 29:29Speaker 1: year too they have a weird habit of looking like
- 29:31Speaker 1: crap and then all of a sudden the game means
- 29:34Speaker 1: something it matters and bam they pull it out so
- 29:38Speaker 1: I actually would be scared by the fact that the
- 29:40Speaker 1: Bengals are three and a half point favorites in Pittsburgh,
- 29:44Speaker 1: but because you just never know the Steelers will turn it.
- 29:48Speaker 1: They look like they're in rock bottom and then they
- 29:50Speaker 1: go on a winning streak. So this is an AFC
- 29:53Speaker 1: North game. Always very tough to figure out when these
- 29:55Speaker 1: teams play each other. Football is finally back, and PrizePix

- 32:25Speaker 1: slash birds. That's Q-U-O dot com slash birds. Seahawks at Commanders.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's like the same thing if
- 32:34Speaker 1: you're a Commanders fan, if you're a Giants fan. You
- 32:37Speaker 1: pinned all your hopes on your young quarterback. And the
- 32:40Speaker 1: Commanders went through this last year losing Jaden Daniels. Now
- 32:44Speaker 1: maybe they've got a little bit more firepower with Stephon Diggs,
- 32:47Speaker 1: who already has three touchdowns, and maybe they're a little
- 32:50Speaker 1: bit more– I mean, their defense has not played well,
- 32:53Speaker 1: but they've got guys like Stiles who are fun to watch,
- 32:57Speaker 1: Owe in the pass rush. But I can't imagine Commanders
- 33:01Speaker 1: fans just having any hope at this point until Daniels
- 33:05Speaker 1: can play and play effectively for, I don't know, three,
- 33:08Speaker 1: four games in a row. And the timing always seems
- 33:11Speaker 1: to suck for them. You know, now they have to
- 33:13Speaker 1: play the defending champs. You lose your quarterback, then you're 0-2,
- 33:18Speaker 1: and then the defending champs come to town. And the
- 33:21Speaker 1: Seahawks are 2-0. They might get Darnold back, which would
- 33:24Speaker 1: be good for them. Their defense has been very good again.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I know a lot of people were sort of impressed
- 33:30Speaker 1: with the Cardinals after– the Cardinals pulled out that win
- 33:33Speaker 1: over the Chargers in the opener. Well, if you thought
- 33:35Speaker 1: the Cardinals were going to be maybe that surprise team,
- 33:38Speaker 1: they came back to earth because the Seahawks absolutely humiliated
- 33:41Speaker 1: them in every form or fashion. So Seahawks will go
- 33:45Speaker 1: into Washington and it's going to take a Herculean effort
- 33:49Speaker 1: for the commanders to even stay in this game. Seahawks
- 33:53Speaker 1: are seven and a half point favorites on the road. Folks,
- 33:57Speaker 1: if you've been watching football for a long time, If
- 33:59Speaker 1: you've been listening to me, because I used to talk
- 34:01Speaker 1: about this quite a bit, it was once a given
- 34:05Speaker 1: that a West Coast team traveling to the East Coast
- 34:08Speaker 1: for a 1 o'clock game was going to lose. I mean,
- 34:10Speaker 1: the numbers used to be around 65% to 70% of
- 34:13Speaker 1: the time the East Coast team would win. That's changed
- 34:17Speaker 1: a lot over the last four years, I guess, as
- 34:20Speaker 1: more sports science, as more preparation. I don't know. Sometimes
- 34:24Speaker 1: teams fly earlier, but it's not nearly what it used
- 34:28Speaker 1: to be. In terms of these West Coast teams playing
- 34:31Speaker 1: one o'clock games on the East Coast. So I think
- 34:34Speaker 1: the Seahawks should win and be fine. Seven and a
- 34:36Speaker 1: half is a little high for me. I still am
- 34:38Speaker 1: old school with that West Coast, East Coast thing. But
- 34:41Speaker 1: I would, you know, the commanders are facing an uphill
- 34:43Speaker 1: battle here. Patriots and Jaguars. Now, going into the year,
- 34:49Speaker 1: this seemed like a really fun game. Patriots, Jaguars, two
- 34:52Speaker 1: double-digit win teams from last year, playoff teams. Jaguars looked
- 34:58Speaker 1: good in week one, got a big win, and then
- 35:01Speaker 1: it was the Browns, but then they lost to the Broncos.
- 35:03Speaker 1: They couldn't keep it going in week two as the
- 35:05Speaker 1: Broncos got their mojo back. The Patriots got just humiliated
- 35:11Speaker 1: in week one, well, They lost badly, obviously, in week
- 35:15Speaker 1: one to Drew Locke and the Seahawks in the season opener.
- 35:20Speaker 1: They responded with a 20-3 win over the Steelers, who
- 35:22Speaker 1: I said are going through it right now. Drake May
- 35:25Speaker 1: still doesn't look right. Still having some issues there. This
- 35:30Speaker 1: won't be a get-right game for him because Jacksonville has
- 35:33Speaker 1: a very good defense. The guy who's got to come
- 35:37Speaker 1: through for the Jaguars is Parker Washington. I mean, he's
- 35:39Speaker 1: really become... an excellent wide receiver in this league. Not
- 35:43Speaker 1: just saying that because I'm wearing the Penn State colors.
- 35:46Speaker 1: I'm an alum. He has become a very good wide
- 35:49Speaker 1: receiver to the point where the fact that Brian Thomas Jr.
- 35:54Speaker 1: is not any longer a very good wide receiver since
- 35:58Speaker 1: his rookie year has not hurt the Jags as much.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You would like to see him have a little bit
- 36:02Speaker 1: more firepower, especially when they're going to play a team
- 36:06Speaker 1: like the Patriots who have a very good defense, but
- 36:10Speaker 1: Lawrence has played well. Washington gives them some big play
- 36:13Speaker 1: ability down the field. He gives them some middle downplay.
- 36:17Speaker 1: He can do a lot for them. Washington's been very good.
- 36:20Speaker 1: They've been running the ball with Tootin fairly well. I
- 36:23Speaker 1: know that he's an explosive player that they try to
- 36:25Speaker 1: get on the field as much as possible. Now, you
- 36:28Speaker 1: saw the Patriots got Henderson back healthy. He had an
- 36:31Speaker 1: explosive play. Touchdown run. I would love to know what
- 36:35Speaker 1: the issue is. They have not liked him as much
- 36:37Speaker 1: for what he did last year, whether it's his vision,
- 36:40Speaker 1: his pass blocking. But, you know, they clearly want to
- 36:43Speaker 1: give Ramondre Stevenson a lot of carries. Ramondre had a fumble,
- 36:48Speaker 1: which he will do against in their last game. He
- 36:53Speaker 1: had a fumble and then they went to Henderson and
- 36:56Speaker 1: he gave him a big play. He's capable of doing that.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Whatever team here between the Jaguars and Patriots, whoever makes
- 37:05Speaker 1: the bigger play is going to win. This will be
- 37:06Speaker 1: a tight game. Whoever just gets more explosive out of
- 37:10Speaker 1: it will win. This could go either way. It could
- 37:13Speaker 1: be a coin flip. Jags are three-point favorites. Good game, though.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Really good matchup. All right, the 4 o'clock games. You've
- 37:20Speaker 1: got the Cardinals are headed to the 49ers. The 49ers
- 37:24Speaker 1: are eight-and-a-half-point favorites. These teams know each other. not only
- 37:28Speaker 1: because they're NFC West opponents, but Mike LaFleur is now
- 37:32Speaker 1: the head coach of the Cardinals. He has been on
- 37:35Speaker 1: Sean McVay's staff. He's been on Kyle Shanahan's staff. He
- 37:38Speaker 1: comes from that tree, and everything he's trying to do
- 37:41Speaker 1: with the Cardinals will be similar to what McVay do,
- 37:44Speaker 1: to what Shanahan do with their respective teams. So these
- 37:47Speaker 1: coaches know each other very well, but the Cardinals have
- 37:51Speaker 1: some major issues right now with their receiving core. If
- 37:55Speaker 1: you watch just a little bit of Marvin Harrison playing, Clips,
- 37:58Speaker 1: you wonder where his head is. He looks like he
- 38:01Speaker 1: is completely uninvested from the game plan. Maybe he's not
- 38:05Speaker 1: seeing enough targets. Maybe he's not that good, which is
- 38:09Speaker 1: hard to believe. I mean, this guy was basically considered
- 38:12Speaker 1: the top wide receiver coming out of college football by
- 38:16Speaker 1: his freshman year. He couldn't come out as a freshman,
- 38:19Speaker 1: but he was just seen as a can't miss prospect
- 38:22Speaker 1: for several years at Ohio State. Well, he has been
- 38:25Speaker 1: a miss so far. He has not been a difference maker.
- 38:28Speaker 1: The only difference maker they have is their tight end,
- 38:30Speaker 1: Trey McBride, is very good. They were absolutely annihilated last
- 38:35Speaker 1: week by the Seahawks. Now they will have to face
- 38:39Speaker 1: a 49ers team that continues to lose players. Now they've
- 38:45Speaker 1: lost Nick Bosa, who suffers a freak calf injury, and
- 38:48Speaker 1: who knows how long he's going to be out. Not good.
- 38:52Speaker 1: They're beat up at wide receiver. They've lost Stribling for
- 38:55Speaker 1: a while, their rookie. Demarcus Robinson, who was doing a
- 38:58Speaker 1: nice job, is out. So they're going to have to
- 39:01Speaker 1: continue to rely on McCaffrey and Kittle, who are older
- 39:05Speaker 1: guys who are going to have to take on the work.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And Mike Evans, another guy who's kind of banged up
- 39:10Speaker 1: always throughout the week but manages to play. But the
- 39:13Speaker 1: 49ers have so many old players, and it just feels
- 39:19Speaker 1: like at any time, They can lose any of them
- 39:22Speaker 1: to injuries, not to mention their left tackle is in
- 39:24Speaker 1: his 40s. He's great, but he's in his 40s. But 2-0.
- 39:30Speaker 1: they continue to score a lot of points. They continue
- 39:32Speaker 1: to win games. They had the big win over the Rams.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Then they had a big win over the Dolphins because
- 39:37Speaker 1: everybody's going to crush the Dolphins. And now they've got
- 39:41Speaker 1: another game that they should win easily over the 49ers.
- 39:45Speaker 1: But you just wonder how long they can continue to
- 39:47Speaker 1: ride McCaffrey and and Kittle, older guys like that, Mike Evans,
- 39:53Speaker 1: without the roof falling in because of all their injuries.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Vikings at Bucks. This is an interesting game. The Vikings
- 40:02Speaker 1: are one and a half point road favorites. They're going
- 40:04Speaker 1: down to South Florida. I continue to say that teams
- 40:08Speaker 1: struggle to win when they have to go play in
- 40:11Speaker 1: South Florida in September. It's tough. The humidity, it can
- 40:14Speaker 1: get to you. However, The Browns seemingly didn't have an
- 40:17Speaker 1: issue with it against the Buccaneers last week, although I
- 40:19Speaker 1: will say there was a rainstorm. I don't know if
- 40:22Speaker 1: that cooled things down because the game was delayed a
- 40:25Speaker 1: little bit there by lightning and all, but the Bucs
- 40:28Speaker 1: need a win. They are very banged up on defense.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Their rookie Bane, pass rusher, not going to play. Their
- 40:35Speaker 1: rookie linebacker Trotter hurt. That's no excuse. They shouldn't be 0-2.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Mayfield has turned the ball over left and right. You know,
- 40:44Speaker 1: he talked a big game in the preseason, decided not
- 40:47Speaker 1: to sign the contract offer, said he was going to
- 40:49Speaker 1: bet on himself. The Bucs then appreciate that about him
- 40:53Speaker 1: and give him the big money. And then he turns
- 40:56Speaker 1: around and he has a bunch of fumbles and an interception.
- 41:00Speaker 1: So through two weeks, he's been turnover prone. And now
- 41:03Speaker 1: that has hurt them. And losing to the Browns, I mean,
- 41:07Speaker 1: especially for Mayfield, where he started off his career, an
- 41:10Speaker 1: Ohio guy, had to be a big smack in the face.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Now they welcome the Vikings in. The Vikings are 2-0.
- 41:17Speaker 1: The Vikings have had– listen, everybody thought the Bears were
- 41:22Speaker 1: going to come in and roll a bunch of points
- 41:23Speaker 1: up on the Vikings, and the Vikings said, no, no, no.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Brian Flores had none of it. They win the game 9-3.
- 41:29Speaker 1: That was another game in a driving rainstorm. They had
- 41:32Speaker 1: already beaten the Packers convincingly in week one behind Carson Wentz.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So do they score a lot of points in Carson
- 41:40Speaker 1: Wentz's second start? No. Am I surprised? No, not at all.
- 41:44Speaker 1: You know, it's easier for them to get good production
- 41:47Speaker 1: out of Wentz coming off the bench as opposed to
- 41:50Speaker 1: when a team has a week to prepare for Carson
- 41:53Speaker 1: Wentz and then also the game being played in a
- 41:55Speaker 1: driving rainstorm. Murray will be back, Kyler Murray for the Vikings.
- 42:00Speaker 1: So there will be some pressure on him to maintain
- 42:03Speaker 1: the level of play, but at least it's the guy
- 42:05Speaker 1: that Kevin O'Connell wanted to start at quarterback. I understand
- 42:09Speaker 1: why they're one and a half point favorites. I think
- 42:12Speaker 1: they're a better team by a little bit. I thought
- 42:15Speaker 1: the Buccaneers would be better than 0-2 to start the season.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I mean, they had a tough loss to the Bengals,
- 42:20Speaker 1: but they were in it. But that was a really
- 42:22Speaker 1: bad loss to the Browns. It makes you really wonder
- 42:25Speaker 1: what's going on with Todd Bowles right now. He has
- 42:27Speaker 1: got to get that defense situated if they want to
- 42:30Speaker 1: win this game against the Vikings and get their season
- 42:32Speaker 1: back on track. The 425, another one is the Ravens.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Ravens at Cowboys, but the game is being
- 42:41Speaker 1: played in Brazil. Now, there's all sorts of field issues
- 42:45Speaker 1: and concerns. Apparently, Brazil has been just inundated with epic
- 42:51Speaker 1: biblical levels of flooding there that they have not seen before.
- 42:55Speaker 1: It has impacted the field conditions. I know the Players
- 42:58Speaker 1: Association for the NFL is worried about it. The NFL,
- 43:02Speaker 1: of course, is going to act like everything's fine, but
- 43:05Speaker 1: this could be one of those games where you see
- 43:07Speaker 1: guys slip in. sliding, losing their footing. You think a
- 43:10Speaker 1: guy's going to break a big run, then he falls.
- 43:13Speaker 1: So obviously, you know, the Ravens, they need to run
- 43:15Speaker 1: the ball. They rely on Derrick Henry, who's off to
- 43:18Speaker 1: an unbelievable start. Already has four touchdowns. All right. They
- 43:23Speaker 1: had a nice win, the Ravens did, in week one
- 43:25Speaker 1: over the Colts. And then they went to New Orleans. Well,
- 43:29Speaker 1: they played New Orleans and didn't have a good game.
- 43:32Speaker 1: They lost 24-17. The offense did not look as good.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Lamar wasn't able to run. He threw a pick. against
- 43:39Speaker 1: a Saints defense that has sort of sneaky been good,
- 43:41Speaker 1: even though I don't love the personnel. Well, now they're
- 43:44Speaker 1: playing a Cowboys team that is bad on defense, has
- 43:48Speaker 1: injuries at linebacker, has injuries in the secondary, has still
- 43:52Speaker 1: not figured out who they are defensively under Christian Parker
- 43:56Speaker 1: and his scheme. So this is a good spot for
- 43:59Speaker 1: the Ravens to go on. Well, I want to say
- 44:01Speaker 1: go on. To go to Brazil, to get better, to
- 44:04Speaker 1: continue to learn their own new offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle.
- 44:08Speaker 1: and to get back on track. Now, Flowers might be hurt.
- 44:11Speaker 1: We'll see if he plays. He's been dealing with a
- 44:13Speaker 1: hamstring injury. And if he doesn't play, then the Ravens
- 44:17Speaker 1: are really limited at wide receiver because they lost their rookie,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Jacoby Lane, earlier in week one. So if they don't
- 44:24Speaker 1: have Flowers, they're really well, they're top two, their main wideouts.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Now you saw Bateman, he stepped up for them last week,
- 44:32Speaker 1: had a nice game. They didn't win though. Bateman would
- 44:35Speaker 1: be their number one wide receiver. And then they're going
- 44:37Speaker 1: to rely on you know, their tight ends and Andrews
- 44:40Speaker 1: and try to throw the ball a little bit to Henry.
- 44:42Speaker 1: They've been trying to do that more in this offense.
- 44:44Speaker 1: But honestly, it shouldn't have to be that kind of
- 44:48Speaker 1: tough sledding for the Ravens. The Cowboys, they just have
- 44:51Speaker 1: not played good defense yet. Maybe they will at some
- 44:54Speaker 1: point as they learn the system. But right now they
- 44:56Speaker 1: have to outscore teams to win. They were obviously able
- 45:00Speaker 1: to get C.D. Lamb going against the Commanders. They rung
- 45:05Speaker 1: up a lot of points. The commanders only scored 20
- 45:06Speaker 1: because they lost Daniels. So it's really hard to evaluate
- 45:09Speaker 1: if the Cowboys defense is back or did well, or
- 45:12Speaker 1: if that was just because the commanders and Daniels weren't good.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And then Daniels went out of the game. We'll know
- 45:19Speaker 1: a lot more about both of these teams after this game.
- 45:22Speaker 1: It's a good matchup being that the Cowboys have a
- 45:25Speaker 1: lot of offensive firepower. but the Ravens have some excellent
- 45:29Speaker 1: players on defense, right? The Ravens have some excellent players
- 45:32Speaker 1: on offense, but if they're slipping and sliding all over
- 45:34Speaker 1: the place because Jackson and Henry can't get their footing,
- 45:37Speaker 1: then we're going to have to revisit this whole idea
- 45:40Speaker 1: of playing games in Brazil and some of these international games.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I don't think the NFL is going to revisit the idea.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Too much of a moneymaker for them. The last 4
- 45:49Speaker 1: o'clock game is Raiders at Saints. I said last week
- 45:54Speaker 1: that if you're the Saints– It was a nice job
- 45:57Speaker 1: week one of getting yourself back into the game against
- 46:00Speaker 1: the Lions, forcing overtime, I believe it was, before eventually
- 46:06Speaker 1: falling short. But if you want to be taken seriously,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and I think the Saints can win the NFC South,
- 46:12Speaker 1: especially now that the Bucs are 0-2, I think there's
- 46:16Speaker 1: room for the Saints to win the NFC South. But
- 46:18Speaker 1: I said I can't take them as seriously as I
- 46:22Speaker 1: want to if they can't go into Baltimore and come
- 46:25Speaker 1: out with a win. Because I like Baltimore, but I
- 46:28Speaker 1: felt like the Saints really needed to make their mark.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to disrespect Baltimore. This was more about
- 46:34Speaker 1: the Saints and whether or not they had really turned
- 46:36Speaker 1: a corner since they turned over to Tyler Shuck last
- 46:40Speaker 1: year and had that nice second half of their season. Well,
- 46:43Speaker 1: what did the Saints do? They went into Baltimore and
- 46:46Speaker 1: came out with a win. Tyler Shuck has played some
- 46:50Speaker 1: really good football. He can move around the pocket, too.
- 46:52Speaker 1: He throws the ball nicely, but he can move around
- 46:55Speaker 1: the pocket as well. He has a nice rapport already
- 46:58Speaker 1: with Olave. That is one of the league's better kind
- 47:02Speaker 1: of quarterback wide receiver connections. Olave already has almost 300
- 47:06Speaker 1: yards receiving. I don't know what the Saints are doing
- 47:10Speaker 1: with their running game. They paid a lot of money
- 47:13Speaker 1: in the offseason. First day of free agency. Let's go
- 47:15Speaker 1: sign Etienne. Bring him home. All right, let's go sign
- 47:18Speaker 1: Travis Etienne. Give him a lot of money. They gave
- 47:20Speaker 1: him a lot of money. And then in week one,
- 47:23Speaker 1: they basically split his time with Kendrick Miller. And then
- 47:26Speaker 1: in week two, Kendrick Miller is inactive. So you think, oh, okay,
- 47:29Speaker 1: now they're going to go get this game, running game
- 47:31Speaker 1: going with ETN. And they wind up giving a bunch
- 47:35Speaker 1: of carries to Alvin Kamara, who, I mean, you basically
- 47:40Speaker 1: have to dust the cobwebs off. So I'm not sure
- 47:44Speaker 1: why they paid all this money for Travis Etienne not
- 47:47Speaker 1: to give him the ball. I thought he'd be perfect
- 47:49Speaker 1: on that track, in that offense, when you've got guys
- 47:52Speaker 1: like Olave and Jawan Johnson to stretch the field a
- 47:55Speaker 1: little bit. It hasn't manifested that way. But nonetheless, the
- 48:02Speaker 1: Saints pulled out a win. They are 1-1. They're facing
- 48:05Speaker 1: a Raiders team. Hey, give Clint Kubiak credit. He is
- 48:08Speaker 1: doing what he does. He is compensating. We saw him
- 48:12Speaker 1: do this. as the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks last year.
- 48:15Speaker 1: He doesn't need much. If you give him a bad
- 48:18Speaker 1: offensive line and the Raiders offensive line, it's not as
- 48:22Speaker 1: terrible as it was last year. They signed Linderbaum at
- 48:25Speaker 1: center for a lot of money. They have a very
- 48:26Speaker 1: good left tackle when healthy and Colton Miller. It's not
- 48:30Speaker 1: a great offensive line. It's a better one. But that's
- 48:34Speaker 1: basically all Kubiak needs. He's going to play heavy fronts.
- 48:37Speaker 1: He's going to go under center. He's going to run
- 48:39Speaker 1: play action. And you give him one receiver, like Jackson
- 48:43Speaker 1: Smith and Jibga last year, and he'll make the most
- 48:46Speaker 1: of it. Trey Tucker had a big game for them
- 48:49Speaker 1: against the Chargers, and now they're getting Bowers back. And
- 48:52Speaker 1: Bowers is probably the best tight end in the league.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I don't even think there's a probably. When he is healthy,
- 48:59Speaker 1: he can make plays unlike no other. So now you're
- 49:03Speaker 1: looking at a Raiders team that is already 2-0, riding
- 49:07Speaker 1: Ashton Gentry, who's off to a nice start, getting what
- 49:10Speaker 1: it can out of its wide receiver group, and now
- 49:12Speaker 1: you add transformational talent at tight end like Brock Bowers.
- 49:17Speaker 1: So am I taking the Raiders more seriously? Yes. Okay.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Do I think they've taken some teams by surprise here
- 49:24Speaker 1: by beating the Chargers and then beating the Dolphins? Again,
- 49:28Speaker 1: everybody's going to be the Dolphins. But, you know, to
- 49:30Speaker 1: manhandle the Chargers by two touchdowns or 12 points is
- 49:34Speaker 1: pretty good. All right. I think the Saints need to
- 49:37Speaker 1: win this game still. But I've got my eyes on
- 49:40Speaker 1: the Raiders. They're an improving team. Clint Kubiak, if you
- 49:44Speaker 1: guys remember, was the offensive coordinator of the Saints a
- 49:46Speaker 1: few years ago. They got off to a great start
- 49:48Speaker 1: where they were scoring 40 points a game for the
- 49:50Speaker 1: first two weeks, and then everybody got hurt. The one
- 49:53Speaker 1: thing to pay attention to in this game, the Saints
- 49:56Speaker 1: lost their left tackle. He's out for this game. He
- 49:59Speaker 1: has an ankle injury. I think he's going to be
- 50:01Speaker 1: out a couple weeks. Kelvin Banks, he's a second-year player,
- 50:04Speaker 1: had a really good year as a rookie last year,
- 50:06Speaker 1: and is a big part of the Saints' overall improvement
- 50:09Speaker 1: on the offensive line. So they are going to have
- 50:12Speaker 1: to play a backup at left tackle. That could cause
- 50:15Speaker 1: some issues for blocking Max Crosby. So they will have
- 50:19Speaker 1: to have a plan for that, and Crosby can certainly
- 50:21Speaker 1: single-handedly disrupt the game if that's what it comes down to.
- 50:26Speaker 1: But this will be an interesting game. Very, very interesting game,
- 50:30Speaker 1: whereas when the Raiders were involved in games last year,
- 50:33Speaker 1: you didn't say they were interesting. But two teams who
- 50:35Speaker 1: are really trying to establish themselves early in this season.
- 50:41Speaker 1: The 8 o'clock game, Sunday night, you have the Rams
- 50:45Speaker 1: against the Broncos. So the Rams, look, the coach admitted,
- 50:50Speaker 1: McVay admitted he screwed up with the travel against the
- 50:53Speaker 1: 49ers in Australia. He said it at the podium, stupid decision. Obviously,
- 50:58Speaker 1: the Rams had plenty of rest and then came back
- 51:01Speaker 1: and smoked the Giants. I don't think that was all
- 51:05Speaker 1: that surprising, especially when you injure Dart and get him
- 51:08Speaker 1: out of the game. Then Winston has to come in.
- 51:11Speaker 1: But the Rams are better. Now, the Rams are dealing
- 51:13Speaker 1: with their own injuries. Puka Nakua hasn't been playing. Probably
- 51:16Speaker 1: is not going to play this week. And the Rams
- 51:18Speaker 1: have no depth at wide receiver. So they're basically playing
- 51:21Speaker 1: Devontae Adams and a million tight ends. I mean, they
- 51:25Speaker 1: have– last year, the Rams– played the most 13 personnel,
- 51:31Speaker 1: which is three tight end formations that the league gets
- 51:34Speaker 1: seen in forever. Okay. It was around 30%. They're higher
- 51:38Speaker 1: than that this year. They're on, they're over 40% this year.
- 51:42Speaker 1: They are just going to throw tight ends out there
- 51:44Speaker 1: on the field. And they've got guys like Ferguson and, um,
- 51:49Speaker 1: some other tight ends, Parkinson, who can run decent routes
- 51:54Speaker 1: and catch the ball too. So they compensate for having
- 51:57Speaker 1: no number two or number three receiver by sticking a
- 51:59Speaker 1: bunch of tight ends who can run on the field.
- 52:01Speaker 1: And these guys can block a little bit too, and
- 52:04Speaker 1: that gets their run game going. You can get away
- 52:06Speaker 1: with that against the Giants. I don't know that you
- 52:09Speaker 1: can get away with that against the Broncos. The Broncos...
- 52:13Speaker 1: are working out their offensive issues. They definitely got the
- 52:16Speaker 1: ball to Jalen Waddell against the Jaguars after amazingly not
- 52:21Speaker 1: being able to get him the ball against the Chiefs.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Then he had a bad drop. But their defense will
- 52:28Speaker 1: have a beat on what Sean McVay and the Rams
- 52:31Speaker 1: want to do. I think missing Nakua got covered up
- 52:35Speaker 1: early on, especially by the way they stopped the Giants.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I think it's going to be very difficult to go
- 52:40Speaker 1: into Denver and beat the Broncos without Nakua. I mean,
- 52:44Speaker 1: he is so important to what they do in both
- 52:48Speaker 1: their run game as a condensed blocker, in their passing game,
- 52:52Speaker 1: as a guy who just functions so well in space,
- 52:54Speaker 1: makes contested catches. This Broncos defense is really good. You
- 52:58Speaker 1: need weapons to beat it, okay? I mean, obviously, it
- 53:02Speaker 1: didn't play very well in the season opener. Not quite
- 53:06Speaker 1: sure what happened there against the Chiefs. They just weren't prepared.
- 53:08Speaker 1: It was a bad overall game. But they came back
- 53:11Speaker 1: and had a very good game against the Jaguars. And
- 53:14Speaker 1: I am sure the Broncos have heard a lot about
- 53:18Speaker 1: how great the Rams are. And the Broncos believe they're
- 53:20Speaker 1: every bit as good. So it was nice to see
- 53:23Speaker 1: them work out a few kinks against the Jaguars. They
- 53:26Speaker 1: pulled out a big win against a good team. They
- 53:30Speaker 1: are underdogs at home by two and a half points
- 53:33Speaker 1: against the Rams. I guarantee you Sean Payton will be
- 53:35Speaker 1: pointing that out. All right. I do not think this
- 53:37Speaker 1: will be an easy game for the Rams. Until the
- 53:41Speaker 1: Rams get Nakua back, it's going to be difficult for
- 53:44Speaker 1: them when they play against really good defenses. All right,
- 53:48Speaker 1: I'm not going to get, obviously, the Monday night game
- 53:51Speaker 1: is the Eagles-Bears. We'll have that all wrapped up and
- 53:55Speaker 1: covered from every angle on the pregame show, inside the
- 53:58Speaker 1: Birds pregame show. So I don't want to get into
- 54:00Speaker 1: it too much here. The Bears are four and a
- 54:02Speaker 1: half point underdogs. I will just say that the bears,
- 54:07Speaker 1: we'll talk about this. The bears are leaning in and,
- 54:10Speaker 1: and Ben Johnson are leaning into the three tight end
- 54:13Speaker 1: craze as well, just like the Rams are. And they
- 54:16Speaker 1: put three tight ends on the field. They actually haven't
- 54:19Speaker 1: been very efficient with it. They have not run the
- 54:21Speaker 1: ball well, but they've gotten some big pass plays because
- 54:24Speaker 1: like the Rams, the bears have some tight ends who
- 54:26Speaker 1: can both block and catch. They have not yet unlocked
- 54:30Speaker 1: Colston Loveland. I have to think that that is coming.
- 54:34Speaker 1: sometime soon the eagles will have to tackle better in
- 54:36Speaker 1: this game than they did against the titans all right
- 54:40Speaker 1: so that's a look at the week one's games uh
- 54:44Speaker 1: as we always do at the end of the show
- 54:45Speaker 1: i give you my three picks and i gotta be
- 54:48Speaker 1: honest with you i've been terrible to start the year
- 54:50Speaker 1: i was one and two uh in week one and
- 54:53Speaker 1: oh and three last week i mean i was just
- 54:56Speaker 1: a mess last week so i'm gonna have to do
- 55:00Speaker 1: a better job maybe i got too cute you know
- 55:02Speaker 1: i picked the bucks to cover against the the Browns
- 55:07Speaker 1: last week, and they just lost outright. I picked Green
- 55:09Speaker 1: Bay to cover against the Jets. They didn't cover. They won,
- 55:12Speaker 1: but they didn't cover. And, of course, I picked the
- 55:14Speaker 1: Chargers to beat the cover against the Raiders, and they
- 55:18Speaker 1: just outright lost. So not only am I losing, but
- 55:21Speaker 1: I'm picking teams that are favored to win. They're outright losing.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Forget covering. They're just losing. All right, here are my
- 55:27Speaker 1: picks this week. I like the Chiefs. It's a big number.
- 55:32Speaker 1: It is in Miami. The number is 10.5. I think
- 55:35Speaker 1: Miami is just that bad, and I think the Chiefs
- 55:38Speaker 1: are good enough to be able to beat the Dolphins
- 55:40Speaker 1: by at least two touchdowns. I'm going to go with
- 55:46Speaker 1: the Broncos. I think I just told you they're getting
- 55:49Speaker 1: points at home against the Rams. I don't like the
- 55:51Speaker 1: Rams without Nakua in this game. I just think offensively
- 55:56Speaker 1: it's going to be tough sledding in Denver against those
- 55:59Speaker 1: Broncos defense. So the Broncos are home, and they're getting points. So...
- 56:03Speaker 1: I'll go with the Broncos on that one. And I
- 56:06Speaker 1: know the lions have injuries, so I'm a little reluctant
- 56:09Speaker 1: with this one because they're banged up on the offensive
- 56:12Speaker 1: line and the jets have played pretty well, but the
- 56:14Speaker 1: lions are home six and a half point favorites over
- 56:17Speaker 1: the jets. I think the lions are going to roll
- 56:22Speaker 1: in this game. I do think that it'll probably start
- 56:24Speaker 1: slow and then, you know, maybe they'll only be up
- 56:26Speaker 1: by six going into the fourth. Then they'll get a
- 56:29Speaker 1: pull away touchdown that gives them a double digit lead
- 56:32Speaker 1: and That's what I expect them to do. So I
- 56:34Speaker 1: expect them to cover the six and a half that
- 56:36Speaker 1: they are favored over the Jets at home at. And
- 56:39Speaker 1: that's it. That's a look at this week's games, and
- 56:43Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. As always, as I tell you
- 56:45Speaker 1: every week, enjoy your football watching. This is Jeff Mosher
- 56:49Speaker 1: for the NFL Weekly Preview on Inside the Birds.
