- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: The smell of bacon, eggs, maybe even sausages, biscuits, grits, peacefulness, and that is a privilege to have.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: For a lot of us, we take for granted that aspect of life.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just being able to wake up in your bed and have that ability to roll over uninterrupted.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I want to give to you a notion or a perspective of life where you have no peace, you have no running water, you have no shelter, you have no
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: place to lay your head, chaos is on every hand, and people are still in your dirty clothes.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to imagine gangsters knocking down your door, killing your family, kidnapping your
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to take a minute and just understand not eating for a long period of time.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: Most of us, we get up in the morning and perhaps we get a cup of coffee, a tea.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes we might even get a bagel, an energy drink and we'll start our day.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: on oblivious to people around the world that doesn't have that at all.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: What we're about to talk about and get into is about people that perhaps have an eaten food in days, having drinking water in days, having sat down at a table in days, months, years.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: has been happening in America and the rest of the world has pretended to ignore the cries for help.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: They have pretended to look the other way instead of assisting or helping.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: People over 22,000 people have died.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: whether they were killed, assassinated, kidnapped and murdered, dismembered, you name it, it happened and it keeps happening over and over and over.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: The environmental state is chaos.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: It looks disgusting, it looks like it's hard living, it looks very hard, and I'm not picking on them.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just telling you what it is.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't believe me, when this finishes and I post it on YouTube, I want you guys again to start checking out the content, YouTube, unplug, humanity, unplugged,

- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: It is serious.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a joke.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a game.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: We need to.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: understand people lives are being lost every day.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Kids are being pushed to kill human beings, tenials are being pushed to kill adults and push to help kidnap people and rob and steal.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: It is horrible over in Haiti.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: And today, I just wanted you to take a moment and understand what is going on over at Haiti.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: So again, we like to thank everyone on our social media platforms for continually support.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: You continue support.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Your comments.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: share, like, and subscribe on YouTube, share, like, subscribe on all social media platforms.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: Please get the word out.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: This episode, Haiti, has hired some U.S. mercenaries and mercenaries, take a minute to talk
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: people that have the experience and have the nerve, the balls, the guts, to pull the trigger and take somebody out.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: So Haiti has hired U.S. mercenaries to come in, these guys look up for jobs, they love the combat, die heart, guys you'd love to get busy, and they risk a life for a check.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: Some guys live for the action, they can't do without the action, they love pulling that trigger, they love to have the ammo, they love to have the gear on, they love it, they love it, they love it, they love it, and now they are hired to come over to Haiti and in the gang violence.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: gang violence.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't approve of people getting bullied out of their homes.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't approve of nothing like that.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: However, this is another level of gang violence.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: This is a whole novel level.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: I hate to see this happening, but I do want it to end.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't think you realize the effect this takes on to all American people.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: It trickles over here as well.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: People are depressed.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: People are going through different things in their life.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And now this is just something else that they got to go through.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Something else they got to see taking place over at Haiti.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: So the American people, the mercenaries that's going over there, these guys want to check, they want to get paid, getting good money, getting flown out there.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: and snipers as well.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get him paid, good money, flown out there to put a bullet in these people's heads.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: bottom line, that's what they're saying.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: We want you to put a bullet in the gangsters' heads and have it peace.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Some type of peace and they deserve that.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hate been gone through this for over 20 years.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: People could tell you what they want.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't had drinking water, good places stay in over 20 years in Haiti.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's the fact everybody that's
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: knows no they just ignore it and that's what it goes on in a lot of these different continents countries people know you struggling they just ignore it
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: and it's not safe to go there, it's not safe to live there, it's not safe period.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of pirate ships and things like that that attack, the cruise ships and attack, the US naval ships are from areas like that that are really suppressing to this environment.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a long-going thing that's been happening, and no one has come up with an answer to solve it.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Haiti president, we're going to talk about it in a minute.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: He said he's tired of it, and he says by all means necessary, he will try to make it come to an end.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm your host, your main requirement.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: This is the Man of the Unplug podcast.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: Episode 162, please guys, enjoy.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_12]: Haiti's spiral downwards, so brutal and stifling.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_12]: Anyway, we'll do.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_12]: To curb the gang's power, all of rape, murder, even mutilation.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_12]: Haiti's government has turned to new technology and skills with a checkered past, private security tycoon, Eric Prince.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_10]: They are just flat out evil criminals, and the best place for them is in the ground.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_12]: The decline so rapid that it's sent to hell here, so dizzying, that success is both hard to measure at reach.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_12]: The gang's now control so much of the campus of Porto Prens, the fight against them has spread to the city's outskirts.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_12]: This is rural hillside Kenscoff, into which the gang's sweat months ago.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: She's saying how the band is killed at kids.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: Wanna more out their homes?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Many people are killed, many many families and relatives are not with their loved ones any longer and it's because of the fact that these gangsters, these gangs are just destroying everything.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_12]: We're pushed out, but storms back in again, killing and kidnapping dozens of locals in revenge.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_12]: The police are clearing them out again.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_12]: We join police during a day as long as vans to reclaim tiny remote villages some faces blurred for their security.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_12]: the mist sweeps in and in seconds everything feels much closer.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_12]: As we move in with the police, the gangs use the fog and hills to keep shooting.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: As you watch this video, guys, you can see the carnage you also can hear some of the gangsters shooting at the vehicle and he hit a popping.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: is actually gun bullets hitting the tank.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see that debris barrier there.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_12]: I mean another way the gang's slow to police down.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_12]: Being here about seven or eight shots have kind of flown over us without the crack, because it's a sign of the gang to still really close by and don't want the police to feel comfortable down here and there's another.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_12]: more barricades, lie ahead, locals eager on the road to get back to homes, they've not seen for two years.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: People haven't been in a hole for two years, because the gangsters are blocking the road, they're putting up barricades where people can't go in or go out of their own homes, man.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is crazy.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_12]: the barricades dismantled and burned so the gangs can't return and remake them.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_11]: There's an extraordinary scene of locals just flooding in to kind of reclaim their own streets off the gang to be pushed out.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_12]: A ritual praising the heavens overshadowed by Ruin.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: And soon police tell the locals it is time to leave again in case the gang comes back to
- 16:45[SPEAKER_12]: a new four-under-naked armor.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_12]: It's not the only outside help they're getting.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_12]: Our earlier two helicopters used the pause in the rain to land the police swatting in the hilltops.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_12]: The helicopters apart are very princess operationed here.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: So you know if they bring in snappers in.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: and U.S. mercenaries, they give me these guys 90k, 100k, easy, maybe $120,000 to get out of the come out here.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Easy.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Easy, because your life is on the line, you might not make it back, so they give them a big check.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: It ate no $30,000.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very, very big check.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_12]: In new capabilities and the experience of foreign, special forces, but not for free.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_12]: And these are the first pictures of Prince's private security fighters in Haiti who led the push with specialised Haitian police in what's called the task force.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_04]: A year, a lot of things about you.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: You can see everything.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_12]: Nobody has seen their operations in Haiti before.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_12]: And this drone footage shows gang members fleeing.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_12]: There's still a fight here, as the police settle in to try and hold the area, drones watching over them, and striking targets around.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_12]: Eric Prince made his name and millions in Iraq with Blackwater, solid and reprimanded over civilian casualties there.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_12]: His ties to Blackwater, long severed,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_12]: mercenaries to their detractors can tackle security or gang problems for failing states that can't.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, that's the bad to hear it.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_10]: That's a bad part of it, yeah.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_12]: He was first sent to Haiti as a Navy SEAL 32 years ago, and now he gave CNN his first interview and access to his operation here.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_10]: This is what we started.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_10]: a police truck, like the one we wrote in here on.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Eric Prensen, the man is in charge of hiring all these mercenaries.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_10]: Emblished, burned, the occupant slaughtered, butchered.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_10]: That's done now, because there's much better response, quick rare support, drones, whatever that prevents the police from being overmatched.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: Hello and they're like we got a commercial, yeah, we do, I'm gonna let it play and then we get, we're gonna get red back to it.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_12]: Thousands drone strikes on very targets in the past year, a task full saw said here and what they said was a gang Molotov cocktail factory.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_12]: Prince wouldn't reveal his annual fee of likely tens of millions of dollars, but on top of that, he gets a tenth of any new customs revenue generated if his Lena operation and smuggling a dozen of illegal border crossings.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_11]: You put a number on what your contract is worth in terms of what the Haitian government pay you.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_10]: The previous UN force is that our cost is one sixth of what their annual camp cost was.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_10]: So it's a fraction of a fraction of a fraction.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_12]: He had aimed to free up key roads within a year.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_12]: Yeah, so how much you get paid?
- 20:14[SPEAKER_12]: Although the human has seen the gang spread in the capital halted even reversed.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_12]: And how do you just answer critics who say that you're operating outside of what people might describe as international norms?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_12]: How do you respond to that?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_10]: I would welcome all those critics to come and walk through the rough neighborhoods of Port Apprents for a week or a day and see how long they last and maybe their academic assumptions would be renewed.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_12]: You haven't killed any major gang leaders yet.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_12]: Have they been challenges in some of the operations you're doing is not killing top leaders part of your strategy?
- 20:50[SPEAKER_10]: Look, insurgencies are not defeated by
- 20:54[SPEAKER_10]: by taking out just leadership.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_10]: And there's been a session of that in the United States.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_10]: But wars are won by taking significant numbers of enemy manpower off the battlefield.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_10]: We are in the process of doing that.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_10]: And enabling sovereignty to resume.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_10]: Our goals for success are that people can leave from their home, go to their place of work, and not be murdered, raped, robbed, extorted by gang members at multiple steps of the way.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_10]: Because that's how it is now.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_12]: To grasp the enormity of the collapse and daily trauma, we head to the once vibrant downtown of the capital, so long, gang-held, slaves of it, and our overgrown.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_12]: As though nature is tired of the violence and wants to take back control.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_12]: We patrol at dawn with a new UN mandated gang's pression force here soldiers from Chad, very far from home, and still very far from suppressing the gangs whose territory is marked with these ribbons
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: First like when though I mean guys if you can see this I'm you gotta go to the YouTube page and see this The carnage the building of destruction they just destroy I mean I want you to understand something if hate you got the money to give millions to mercenaries and all that other stuff They had the infrastructure to build it back up What you can't build it up if people keep burning it down
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: and destroying it.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_12]: Make their daily break for it, to head out to the rest of the world, on foot through rivers of sewage and trash, to reach work or food.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_12]: A body-lice abandoned in the road, likely dump there overnight.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: Cutting back on drip.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it's sad, but that's how it is.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: They just showed the body just laying in the ground.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Why do the body just laying out there?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: People who don't care, is that bad out there?
- 22:59[SPEAKER_11]: To see it all happen again for the home trip.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_12]: We're gonna talk about how desperate life must be here.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: These motorcycles that they're showing got three people on them, not two, three.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_12]: Simply be terrifying.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_12]: It's hairy being here inside an arm that's close to no caring, but they're risking it out.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_12]: the street there in the dark.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_12]: Many of them carry.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_12]: It looks like food for their homes, things back into gang out areas.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_12]: Some of them best food.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, some of them got no shoes on.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Limit nothing.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_12]: What they can do.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: Trash everywhere.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: Just as good as it isn't.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_12]: It's crazy, you know?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta watch it, guys.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta go on the thing in why I'm trying.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_12]: I'm trying to solve Haiti's problems.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_12]: Even the city's port is surrounded by gangs who tax every truck that goes in or out.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_12]: This UN backed force prints and the police urgently want to break the gang's stranglehold on here as well as Haiti's key arterial roads and this, the airport.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_11]: Stunning, really.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_12]: This was just a lifeblood.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: People can get shit flowing in.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is crazy.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_12]: For about 25 meters on the other side of it's northern wall.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_12]: They can shoot and anything that tries to land.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_12]: The hills, the roads, and downtown, all gang ridden.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_12]: We come here to see how the space for life is shrinking.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_12]: 1.5 million displaced from their homes.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_12]: Into sweltering catacombs like this.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_12]: But here was already pretty dense, pretty hard to live in really, before the violence around Ken's Gulf.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_12]: Send people, we got to see the day living in y'all.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I really need to check out what your people are living in, y'all.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Bye, bye, bye, hey.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're looking at the best for me.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Lost family uncles, cousins, and my auntie.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: We're looking at the best for that game.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Having found the bodies, cattles, bandits, something, wasted them, ate them, leaving us with nothing.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is crazy how they got it out there and how do you know?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: But stories of horror.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: It took me a bunch of my dad.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_07]: Why?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_07]: It's rough out there, man.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: and the trash, the pile-up of trash.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_12]: Trash mounds look like dirty feet tall, just trash.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_12]: The gangs letting them in, they can't fool, that's it.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: The line of people look horrible, y'all.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: This it is crazy.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: People fight over nothing else.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_12]: And we can't count on you.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's a pity I didn't manage it.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's a shame.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: This is a gang member talk about his support feet and the people.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: That was crazy, bro.

- 27:34[SPEAKER_12]: But it is clear, the gangs are not men of peace.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_12]: We meet two children who work for other gangs who made them murder and mutilate atrocities that are well documented.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_11]: They would make us kill people for them.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_11]: They kidnapped people who they brought to me to kill.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_11]: I did not take any pleasure because it was a bad thing.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_11]: I would tell them that I don't want to.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_11]: They would force me.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_08]: I killed three people.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_08]: I feel guilt.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_08]: Every time I think about it, I cry.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_08]: These people could have been my family.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_08]: I did not want to do it, but if I did not, I would be killed in their places.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_08]: When they would hack the person.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_08]: This is a little girl.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe 10, 12 years old.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: I just cut my ass.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what we did with it.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_12]: Intensifies over half of the 5,700 dead-or-ingered this year but been hit during anti-gang operations, says the UN drone strikes often seem targeted like this one, aiming for gang leader Vitalon.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_12]: But rights workers say civilians are often hit by the blasts and although data is patchy, the UN have reported over 80 deaths so far.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, all the chevdogan are what it is to share.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: So what she's saying is no gang leaders have been hit over 80 people have been hit, but no real gang leaders have been hit.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: So Eric Francis saying you got to take out gang members before you get to the gang leader and I get that.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: look like villagers, they look like regular people, so I, you know, who's who?
- 29:53[SPEAKER_06]: And they don't see no impact yet.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: But they know the impact.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_12]: horrific incident in September last year, Mr. Ganglida, but killed eight children, including this woman's six-year-old daughter.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_05]: We are let everyone who is mullabuela.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: A drone strike, Mr. Ganglida, be hit.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_05]: This woman is lost a child to you.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_05]: And she's saying her son was at a fucker game, you know, and they tried to get the gang leader, but they messed I guess, and casualties of war.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is what happens.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_05]: She found her daughter dead on
- 30:47[SPEAKER_12]: Another January drone strike killed this man, son.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, son was just selling juice and they, you know, you're going to get these stories where people are innocent victims of things like this because change come with a cause nothing happens overnight without some time for sacrifice.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: Big or small, there's something made that you go sacrifice to get
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the reality, because the elves never mean losses, just mean lessons, and people need to understand that.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I'm sure, well, they're blessed, as if they've given them a big sacrifice on them, but they don't.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: If it's approximate, it's love for a son.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_04]: The funeral.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, things like that.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_12]: No, we spoke to blamed the gangs for bringing the strikes upon them, prints, declined to comment on specific cases.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_10]: We run dozens of hours of surveillance in an area before we do anything there, and a patrol arrayed or certainly a drone strike.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_10]: So it's not impossible that we have an accident.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_10]: but we do very, very, very difficult, diligence on making sure that doesn't have it.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think President need to be the only man in charge.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: You need to settle, have to do that.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he probably got a bunch of dudes there that's going to come in there and help out and do what they do.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's just unfortunate that it looks like it's only one guy in charge of it.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: And one guy can't be everywhere at one time.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, in other words, people are saying there's been a lot of damage done, but no damage done, meaning they see how the Haiti gangs have decreased and maybe things have decreased on attack portion or
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: hardship portion, maybe got a little better for them here and there.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: But still, if you don't cut the head of the snake off, you really can't get a positive start over and start to build from what you'd unended.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give us one more.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: This one is
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: you know.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about this.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to listen to one more and see what they talking about and then we're going to go about our business today.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: All right guys, here we go.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_13]: We're in Porto, France, on patrol with a group of foreign soldiers.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: They've been sent here to hunt down thousands of gang members who are now ruling the Haitian
- 33:57[SPEAKER_13]: In just five years, violence here has claimed more than 22,000 lives.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_13]: Now, a new UN Security Mission, known as the Gang's Depression Force, or GSF, is promising to change all that.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_13]: But just months into their deployment, success has been hard to come by.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_14]: Since Haiti's president was assassinated in 2021, gangs have overwhelmed the country with kidnapping,
- 34:43[SPEAKER_13]: Most gang members joined because they were forced to by other gang members, and because they had no other opportunities.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_13]: Half of them are under 18.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_13]: You can see bullet holes in some of these buildings.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_13]: They look abandoned.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: They look abandoned.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: Haiti sees the GSF as its last chance to bring peace to the country.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_13]: But they're also outnumbered by the gangs who are heavily armed and good at hiding among the civilian population.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the biggest problems.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: The gangs are hiding within the civilization, within the people.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: So it's very hard to tell who's who.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: And they got their own spies in all that.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a way to flush them out.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a way to take back the town.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: People will die.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: It isn't people will die.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of them.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_13]: How do you know who's a gang member?
- 35:52[SPEAKER_13]: It wasn't last month.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Did you hear what he just said?
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: How do you know if they're a gang member?
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: And he said the one who has to gun.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now, for some people that might say, yeah, that's right, but that's one of the most,
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: outrageous thing to say.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Because that means I could sit amongst everyone and don't have the gun in my hand and you would never look at me to be a gang member.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I could be the gang leader.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: So this is what I'm saying.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're not skilled.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: These guys that's coming in to try to take out these gang members.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: They're not skilled with the tactics and necessary training
- 36:48[SPEAKER_13]: They were eager to show us a school that they'd recently liberated from the gangs, who were using it as a base to launch attacks.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: The tick what they want under this toy, you see?
- 36:59[SPEAKER_13]: I don't speak French, but I can figure out a little bit of the sign.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_13]: This was a fourth grade classroom.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_13]: There are many people who have the very grammar.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_13]: Now that's how they need to work.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_03]: Now we are in September.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, a change that we must be here.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_13]: It's still not safe for children to come.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_13]: It doesn't feel like, okay, what do we just do here?
- 37:24[SPEAKER_03]: After we bring the security or we clear this area, we need to go one government and his partner to follow us.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_13]: The problem is Haiti hasn't had a functional government or police force in five years.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's the problem.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_13]: That's not the entire community's vulnerable to horrific violence, which hasn't stopped since the G.S.F.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_13]: arrived.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: They have no police, no nothing.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_13]: In Austria, Gangs killed 47 people here in Kenskoff.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_13]: A mountain retreat close to most of Haiti's diplomatic missions and many of the country's remaining operational hotels.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_15]: They have a lot of shootings, loud shootings in the city.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_13]: When we met Mayor John Mustellon last month, he told us that he warned police and central government officials for nearly two years that an attack was coming.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_13]: no one listens until it was too late.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_13]: And the gang's suppression force never came in.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_15]: We need them.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_15]: We need our help.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_15]: We need our help to fight with us.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_13]: And you disappointed that they have not been here yet?
- 38:31[SPEAKER_15]: Yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_15]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_13]: Even here, Mittaloo's is 79-year-old father
- 38:47[SPEAKER_13]: Is this the room where your father was most loved in?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_09]: For a year.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_09]: Did you look at your team in Papam?
- 38:56[SPEAKER_09]: I saw it, if you meet this guy, you attack Papam.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: Tomade liked his father in a room here, and then he killed his father.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: He only said 79 years old.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_09]: I did.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_09]: But you seem to be too much.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_13]: What about the gang suppression force?
- 39:12[SPEAKER_13]: Have you seen them here?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: They GSF gain suppression force, nothing.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_13]: We visited this area where a horrible, horrible tragedy took place.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_13]: Why didn't the GSF respond?
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: But the time that the massacre happened, we simply didn't have the manpower to be able to deploy.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't have the supply chains, we didn't have the intelligence networks to be able to deploy.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is the main reason why we haven't been able to deploy as fast and be as effective as we would have liked at this point.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have the resources.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_13]: Six months in, the GSF is still operating at a fraction of the pledged 5,500 troops.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_13]: It's commander say more coming, but that every roadblock they dismantle, every school they liberate brings them one step closer to the peace they promised.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a good thing in it, Ryan.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say that they don't have the effort because they do have people who try and so the money, they don't have the money, they need to have the money to have people assassinated.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: They do need to get it in and I hate to say this, but they need heads off.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: They do need a lot of heads off.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: They need to start knocking off the big heads.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: One is getting the big money, they need to have the heads off because why is gangster's
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: Is it because of the resources they have there?
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: Why are gangsters holding up airplanes?
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Why are they holding up growth?
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on?
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: What's the real problem now?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: What's the real issue in hating?
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, guys, we can get a continuation going.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, you'd like this episode.
