- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi wants again.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to the latest edition of Birds Weekly, powered by
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Inside the Birds Network. I'm Derek Gain along with
- 0:16Speaker 1: my man Ray Dinger. Ray, we have reached the Eagles
- 0:20Speaker 1: by a week and man, did they go out with
- 0:22Speaker 1: a bang thirty eight twenty over the hated New York Giants. Ray.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I don't like to use the word revenge because I
- 0:30Speaker 1: think it's an overused word, but do you think this
- 0:33Speaker 1: was payback for what the Giants did just a couple
- 0:36Speaker 1: of weeks ago.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Absolutely? Absolutely, I mean you could feel it, and you
- 0:44Speaker 2: and I talked about it and on up to this
- 0:46Speaker 2: game that you know the Giants. You know, the Giants
- 0:52Speaker 2: rubbed the Eagles noses in it up in the meadow Lands,
- 0:54Speaker 2: no doubt about it. They won the game handily, good
- 0:58Speaker 2: for them, but there was a lot of that went on,
- 1:02Speaker 2: a little maybe a little over the top, celebrating some
- 1:06Speaker 2: you know guys laughing on the sidelines. It was the
- 1:09Speaker 2: kind of thing that I think if the Eagles were
- 1:12Speaker 2: embarrassed and came away from it a little mad, maybe
- 1:17Speaker 2: more than a little mad. And when you saw the
- 1:20Speaker 2: interviews with the players this week leading up to the game,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the one theme, and this went from Nick Sirianni all
- 1:27Speaker 2: the way through. The team was physical. You know, we
- 1:32Speaker 2: want to be physical. We're going to come out, We're
- 1:35Speaker 2: going to play physical, and you kind of want to
- 1:38Speaker 2: do that every week anyway in the NFL. But there
- 1:41Speaker 2: just seemed to be below the surface, more of a
- 1:45Speaker 2: message that, yeah, Okay, you got the better of us
- 1:49Speaker 2: last time, but this is going to be a different
- 1:52Speaker 2: story coming into our place. And yeah, I think the Eagles. Look,
- 1:56Speaker 2: they didn't when they got that last possession, they knelt down,
- 1:59Speaker 2: they knelt away the last two minutes, they didn't rub
- 2:01Speaker 2: it in. But it was very clear that they came
- 2:04Speaker 2: out right from the jump that they they wanted to
- 2:07Speaker 2: send a message and tell the Giants you know, we're
- 2:09Speaker 2: still the big kid in town, and don't you forget it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And I think they I think they got that one
- 2:15Speaker 2: out loud and clear.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Dare I say this was their most complete game on
- 2:20Speaker 1: both sides of the football this season? Would disagree?
- 2:24Speaker 2: No, totally agree, Okay, totally agree. This was the first
- 2:28Speaker 2: one that they just took control of it, I mean
- 2:31Speaker 2: literally from the second play and held it throughout the
- 2:35Speaker 2: game for four quarters and really dominated the game, which
- 2:41Speaker 2: you know, by all rights, if you look at the
- 2:42Speaker 2: two rosters, they should but they did and they were
- 2:47Speaker 2: you know, for the first time of year, they were
- 2:48Speaker 2: able to come out and really run the ball, which
- 2:51Speaker 2: they that was their trademark last year. That was their
- 2:54Speaker 2: identity last year and they hadn't been able to find
- 2:57Speaker 2: it through six games, but they were able to do it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: They were able to do it this one and it
- 3:03Speaker 2: was really good to see that running game come back
- 3:05Speaker 2: and they established it right away. I mean that you
- 3:08Speaker 2: know that play that they ran second play from scrimmage,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you know, where they had where they have Fred Johnson
- 3:13Speaker 2: on the field as a six lineman, say sort of
- 3:16Speaker 2: he's an eligible receiver, but he's really in there as
- 3:18Speaker 2: a six blocker, and they ran that play where they
- 3:22Speaker 2: pulled the off side guard and tackle and bring him across,
- 3:26Speaker 2: you know, and they get the double team block at
- 3:28Speaker 2: the point and get centered down field. It's I mean,
- 3:32Speaker 2: it's it's a play that they ran all the time
- 3:36Speaker 2: last year and was really kind of the play that
- 3:38Speaker 2: broke a lot of those sixty yard runs for Sakuon
- 3:41Speaker 2: partly and we hadn't seen it much this year because
- 3:45Speaker 2: of the some of the issues you had in your
- 3:47Speaker 2: offensive line with injuries and so forth. But they came
- 3:50Speaker 2: out with it right away, right right in the right
- 3:53Speaker 2: and the first series in this game broke, the broke
- 3:56Speaker 2: the long touchdown run, and we're in complete control after that.
- 3:59Speaker 2: But it was, it was. It was definitely a flashback
- 4:02Speaker 2: to last year, and if you're an Eagles fan, it
- 4:06Speaker 2: was really good to see.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Before that sixty five yard run, sak One's longest run
- 4:12Speaker 1: this season was eighteen yards. I believe that sixty five
- 4:16Speaker 1: yard run set the tone for the day because it
- 4:19Speaker 1: appeared to take the win out of the Giants sale
- 4:23Speaker 1: right from the jump.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it did, certainly. Defensively, I mean the Giants,
- 4:28Speaker 2: the Giants, they I mean, they understood, they got the
- 4:32Speaker 2: message right away that they the Eagles were going to
- 4:34Speaker 2: come out and they were going to run the ball
- 4:35Speaker 2: and they were not going to be deterred. And they did.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And you know, the Giants, the Giants were funny team, Derek.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at their team, I mean,
- 4:45Speaker 2: they certainly have issues in the secondary, and the Eagles
- 4:48Speaker 2: took advantage of those. But you look at those guys
- 4:51Speaker 2: up front, that defensive line, it's shocking to me that
- 4:56Speaker 2: they've been as weak against the run as they have
- 4:59Speaker 2: been all year. I mean it wasn't just a Sunday thing.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, you know, teams have been running on them
- 5:04Speaker 2: all year. And do you look at that defensive line.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I mean, all high draft picks, all guys making a
- 5:10Speaker 2: ton of money. I mean, that's really should be the
- 5:13Speaker 2: strength of that defense, and it wasn't. It hasn't been
- 5:17Speaker 2: all year, and it sure wasn't on Sunday. The Eagles
- 5:19Speaker 2: owned them.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Eagles finished with two hundred seventy six yards rushing Saquan
- 5:27Speaker 1: A Buck fifty on fourteen carries. What was common last
- 5:32Speaker 1: year has been so difficult to achieve this year up
- 5:37Speaker 1: until this Sunday. And maybe I'm being a bit premature, Ray,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but they appear to have sat down diligently last week
- 5:45Speaker 1: and look at some of the things that they were
- 5:48Speaker 1: doing wrong with the run blocking scheme, their zone blocking scheme,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and finally figured it out. Now it's only a one
- 5:55Speaker 1: game sample, are you convinced and one game sample is
- 5:59Speaker 1: now going to be the standard? Or when you consider
- 6:02Speaker 1: some of the teams that they still have to face,
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's a wait and see issue.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I hate to sound like a pessimist, but you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: I'm kind of waiting to see on this. And the
- 6:13Speaker 2: thing is, you're not going to have to wait very
- 6:14Speaker 2: long because, Okay, you got this week off and they
- 6:18Speaker 2: can use the rest, no question. But when they come back,
- 6:23Speaker 2: they got the first game back is they got to
- 6:25Speaker 2: play green Bay out in the Lambeau and green Bay
- 6:29Speaker 2: right now is number two in the league defending against
- 6:31Speaker 2: the run. And then the following week they come home,
- 6:35Speaker 2: where they've been very good, but they're coming home to
- 6:38Speaker 2: play a real good Detroit, a real good and hot
- 6:42Speaker 2: Detroit Lion team. And Detroit Lions are number five in
- 6:45Speaker 2: the NFL against the run. So if the Eagles have
- 6:49Speaker 2: rediscovered their running game, you know, we'll know we got
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, what you saw, what you saw in this
- 6:56Speaker 2: game against the Giants was it was pretty impressive enough
- 7:00Speaker 2: to be frank, But before before I'm willing to say, yeah,
- 7:04Speaker 2: all's well, they've got this thing figured out and they're
- 7:07Speaker 2: back to the same running machine they were last year.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Let's see how they do against two defenses that played
- 7:14Speaker 2: a run a whole heck of a lot better than
- 7:16Speaker 2: the Giants did.
- 7:18Speaker 1: When you look at this thirty eight point blowout. I
- 7:21Speaker 1: want to single out some of the key players on
- 7:23Speaker 1: the offensive side of the football now. I'm going to
- 7:25Speaker 1: start in the trenches with Brett Toath. I mean, here's
- 7:28Speaker 1: a guy who had taken a lot of criticism, and
- 7:30Speaker 1: rightfully so, missing blocks, unable to sustain blocks. But man
- 7:35Speaker 1: against the Giants, Ray not only was he the catalyst
- 7:38Speaker 1: for the offensive moving up front, but getting to the
- 7:41Speaker 1: second level and getting that extra block to spring the
- 7:44Speaker 1: running game. We hadn't seen that from Breath in the
- 7:47Speaker 1: time he had been in there. Brett, from the time
- 7:49Speaker 1: he had been in there this season.
- 7:51Speaker 2: No, No, we hadn't. And I mean, to be frank,
- 7:56Speaker 2: he had really struggled, you know, And I mean you
- 8:00Speaker 2: had I had legitimate questions about just is he up
- 8:03Speaker 2: to the task?
- 8:04Speaker 1: You know?
- 8:06Speaker 2: And yeah, he played. I give it to him. I mean,
- 8:09Speaker 2: he played really good in this game. I was kind
- 8:11Speaker 2: of wondering coming into it after we got the word
- 8:15Speaker 2: we all got the word that Cam Jurgens was out. Okay,
- 8:19Speaker 2: what are the Eagles going to do with center? I
- 8:21Speaker 2: mean they really did have They did have a couple
- 8:24Speaker 2: of different ways they could go. I mean, they could
- 8:26Speaker 2: move landon Dickerson over to play center. I mean he
- 8:30Speaker 2: played it at college and put him at center and
- 8:35Speaker 2: then try and figure it out at left guard. Maybe
- 8:37Speaker 2: it's Toth, maybe it's somebody else, but no, I mean
- 8:41Speaker 2: they came back and they gave Toth another shot at it,
- 8:43Speaker 2: and you're right, he played really good. In fact, on
- 8:47Speaker 2: that opening Barkley run that you and I were talking about,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I mean, he had a really good block that helped,
- 8:53Speaker 2: you know, that helped open that hole on the left
- 8:55Speaker 2: side that sent Barkley into the secondary and then it
- 8:58Speaker 2: was off to the races. So I thought he played
- 9:01Speaker 2: I thought he played really good. I mean there were
- 9:03Speaker 2: One of the things about this was after the game,
- 9:06Speaker 2: uh Nick, Siriane talked a lot about what a team
- 9:11Speaker 2: win this was. You know, he used the term the
- 9:14Speaker 2: team win over and over again, and sometimes coaches just
- 9:18Speaker 2: say that and sometimes it applies that sometimes it doesn't.
- 9:22Speaker 2: But this time it really did. I mean, if you
- 9:25Speaker 2: if you look at it, I mean you had contributions
- 9:27Speaker 2: all across the board. I mean you Han Dotson makes
- 9:30Speaker 2: a great touchdown cash for you. You know, Toath you said,
- 9:34Speaker 2: did a really good job and playing the center. Uh
- 9:40Speaker 2: Ouchi came in and I thought played really good. Ye
- 9:43Speaker 2: got some got some real pressure on the quarterback. I mean,
- 9:46Speaker 2: there are a lot of guys that we hadn't talked
- 9:48Speaker 2: about much up to this point. Hey, Tank Bigsby, you
- 9:52Speaker 2: know for you know, one hundred yards, So I mean
- 9:56Speaker 2: there was there was a lot of contributions from a
- 9:59Speaker 2: lot of guys, guys who you don't normally think about
- 10:02Speaker 2: or look to, but stepped up really big in this game.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You mentioned Johann Dotson one catch, but what a catch.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It was forty yard test down. He went up and
- 10:12Speaker 1: mossed a defensive back. When you look at the better
- 10:15Speaker 1: offenses in the National Football League, Ray, I'm talking about
- 10:19Speaker 1: Kansas City, Green Bay, Detroit, the Rams. They spread the
- 10:25Speaker 1: wealth around. I mean, they have their key figures, but
- 10:28Speaker 1: they spread the wealth around. Shouldn't Johann Dotson be figured
- 10:32Speaker 1: more into the offensive flow? I mean, we know who
- 10:35Speaker 1: the primary three are, you know, in aj Brown and
- 10:38Speaker 1: Davante and Goddard. But man, when you're talking about keeping
- 10:42Speaker 1: a defense guessing it on its heels, shouldn't you incorporate
- 10:46Speaker 1: a little bit more into your arsenal in this case?
- 10:48Speaker 2: Dotson? Yeah, I've kind of been waiting to see that happen.
- 10:53Speaker 2: To be honest, you know, I think Dodson's I think
- 10:56Speaker 2: Donson's is a good player whose first round for a reason.
- 11:01Speaker 2: But I think that, you know, this offense is and
- 11:04Speaker 2: these coaches seem very committed to two tight ends, you know.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean, they really like the twelve personnel package, and
- 11:13Speaker 2: they don't go you know, they don't go with the
- 11:15Speaker 2: three wide receiver look a lot. To be honest with you,
- 11:19Speaker 2: I wish they would. I wish they would vary things
- 11:21Speaker 2: a little bit. I mean, getting back to what Lane
- 11:24Speaker 2: Johnson said after the game in New York where he said,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think we're predictable. I think that's part of it.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I mean, I would like to see them have a
- 11:33Speaker 2: little more variety in the offense, and part of it
- 11:35Speaker 2: being go more three wide, more spread the formation out
- 11:39Speaker 2: a little bit, more open up some space that for
- 11:42Speaker 2: Berkley to maybe break a couple of those long runs
- 11:44Speaker 2: and get Dotson on the field at the same time,
- 11:46Speaker 2: because I mean he demonstrated on that play that I mean,
- 11:50Speaker 2: that was a great catch.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I kind of wondered when it became obvious during the
- 11:55Speaker 2: week that it was not likely that aj Brown was
- 11:58Speaker 2: going to be able to play in this game. If
- 12:00Speaker 2: he's really out and they know he's out, how are
- 12:03Speaker 2: they going to redesign the offense to make up for
- 12:06Speaker 2: his loss. Well, one obvious way is to is to
- 12:09Speaker 2: go to Goddard in some big spots, which they did.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Another guy you mentioned, yeah, another guy you mentioned, Tank Bixby.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I mean, here's a guy, let's face it, I'm gonna
- 12:17Speaker 1: be honest. He fled out. Stinks when it comes to
- 12:19Speaker 1: kickoff returns, but he had nine carries for one hundred
- 12:22Speaker 1: and four yards in this game. And Ray obviously we
- 12:25Speaker 1: don't get to see a whole lot of him because
- 12:27Speaker 1: of where he played before he got here. But man,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you talk about shifty, a power, able to move the change.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He had one run. I thought he was down two
- 12:35Speaker 1: or three times. He kept the feet moving and picked
- 12:37Speaker 1: up an additional seven eight yards. I think personally he
- 12:43Speaker 1: should be elevated to the number two back behind Saquan
- 12:46Speaker 1: instead of Dylan or Shipley.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah. He I don't know how much folks actually saw
- 12:54Speaker 2: Himen he was in Jacksonville. Yeah, but he's a tough runner, yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 2: I mean he breaks tackles, He's got good balance, he gets,
- 13:03Speaker 2: he fights for the extra yard and the run you're
- 13:05Speaker 2: talking about, what was it second and twenty six or something. Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 2: carry Now, admittedly the Giants did a pretty poor job
- 13:18Speaker 2: of tackling on that play, but you're right. I mean
- 13:21Speaker 2: there were two or three times when it looked like, okay,
- 13:23Speaker 2: he's down now, and he fought through that and was
- 13:26Speaker 2: and got again another five or runner five or six.
- 13:29Speaker 2: So yeah, Bigsby played. This is his most extended playing time,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and he certainly made the most of it, I mean, definitely,
- 13:39Speaker 2: And that's good. I mean, it's if Barkley is going
- 13:44Speaker 2: to be a big part of this offense anyway, and
- 13:46Speaker 2: the offense the running game is certainly going to revolve
- 13:49Speaker 2: around him. But along the way over the second half
- 13:52Speaker 2: of this year you're going to have to spell him
- 13:55Speaker 2: in every game for a couple series anyway. And what
- 13:59Speaker 2: you saw in Bigsby here, yeah, I mean I think
- 14:01Speaker 2: he's earned another shot at it. He was, he doesn't.
- 14:04Speaker 2: He doesn't look at all comfortable returning kicks. In fact,
- 14:07Speaker 2: that he was, he was really poor at it. But
- 14:10Speaker 2: it's obvious running, you know, running with the ball from scrimmage,
- 14:14Speaker 2: he can do that and if I were the coaches here,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I would find ways to try and get him up
- 14:18Speaker 2: more of those opportunities.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Skinny Batman DeVante Smith. We were just so impressed with
- 14:25Speaker 1: what he has emerged to be in the National Football League.
- 14:29Speaker 1: But when you look at this guy slight of build,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I think he is technically sound of a receiver. Is
- 14:35Speaker 1: anybody in the National Football League is. The route running
- 14:38Speaker 1: is impeccable. He doesn't drop many passes, and he takes
- 14:41Speaker 1: a lot of hillacious hits. He is the ultimate weapon.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean, you talk about a big package in a
- 14:47Speaker 1: very rail thin type body, but he is it. And
- 14:50Speaker 1: I mean that one pass he caught when the ball
- 14:53Speaker 1: was behind him, he was running full speed one way
- 14:55Speaker 1: and he reached back and caught it, didn't bobble it,
- 14:57Speaker 1: snagged it like he had on you know U to
- 15:00Speaker 1: stick him on his hands and kept moving. He just
- 15:03Speaker 1: continues to impress in terms of how he goes about
- 15:07Speaker 1: his business.
- 15:09Speaker 2: He does. He does. And you know, anybody that saw
- 15:13Speaker 2: him play at Alabama the year well his final year
- 15:17Speaker 2: when he won the Heisman, but even before that you saw,
- 15:21Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's a big time, high level of
- 15:24Speaker 2: football that they play in that conference and week in
- 15:27Speaker 2: and week out, and nobody could stop him. I mean,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and every week he ran up against good defenses that
- 15:34Speaker 2: were set to try and take him out of the
- 15:36Speaker 2: game or at least minimize what he could do. And
- 15:39Speaker 2: he was always he was always still getting open, and
- 15:42Speaker 2: he always caught the ball. And I know there was
- 15:45Speaker 2: a lot of concern when he came time for the
- 15:48Speaker 2: draft from and I heard Scout say it, God, he's small,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and he's he's skinny, and I don't I don't know
- 15:55Speaker 2: if he's going to be able to hold up in
- 15:57Speaker 2: the NFL. I think it totally legitimate concern if you
- 16:01Speaker 2: just looked at his body type. But we've seen it
- 16:04Speaker 2: now that he is not afraid to catch the ball
- 16:07Speaker 2: in traffic. He's not afraid to come across the middle
- 16:11Speaker 2: and he'll take a big hit and bounce right up,
- 16:14Speaker 2: you know. I mean, he's the thing and the thing
- 16:18Speaker 2: that you mentioned is what to me stands out is
- 16:21Speaker 2: his route running. I mean, he is just so precise
- 16:26Speaker 2: in running his routes at the right point, at the
- 16:29Speaker 2: right depth, coming out of the break at exactly the
- 16:32Speaker 2: right moment to find the football. And you know, I
- 16:36Speaker 2: remember reading a story about him before the draft that
- 16:40Speaker 2: said when he was in Alabama that he before every
- 16:45Speaker 2: practice he would do one hundred pushups and then after
- 16:51Speaker 2: every practice when it was over, and with Nick Saban
- 16:55Speaker 2: they were not short practices, okay, but at the end
- 16:58Speaker 2: of every practice he would stay out and catch a
- 17:00Speaker 2: hundred balls from the jugs machine. That even in that program,
- 17:05Speaker 2: his work ethic was in a class unto itself. And
- 17:10Speaker 2: to me that was that. I mean I saw all
- 17:13Speaker 2: the stats, and I saw all the games and saw
- 17:16Speaker 2: all the catches. But when I heard people talk about
- 17:19Speaker 2: how hard this guy worked to improve and get better,
- 17:24Speaker 2: that's when I said, yeah, this is the guy. If
- 17:26Speaker 2: the Eagles could figure out a way to get this guy,
- 17:29Speaker 2: I think they got something. And they did, and you know,
- 17:32Speaker 2: and you know on draft night he was the guy
- 17:35Speaker 2: the Giants won it. I mean, he was the guy
- 17:38Speaker 2: the Giants had targeted as he was going to be
- 17:40Speaker 2: their first round pick, and the Eagles made the trade
- 17:43Speaker 2: to jump ahead of the Giants and take them. And boy,
- 17:47Speaker 2: you know, the Eagles history with Heisman Trophy winners is
- 17:51Speaker 2: not great. If you look at the history of all
- 17:54Speaker 2: the Heisman Trophy winners that have had most of them
- 17:57Speaker 2: haven't done a whole lack of a lot here, but
- 18:00Speaker 2: this kid has come in and he has been He
- 18:02Speaker 2: has been a major game changer.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Well, if you look at their history with receivers, drafting
- 18:06Speaker 1: him in the first round, it's not a stellar record
- 18:10Speaker 1: when you think about it. But you know, I look
- 18:14Speaker 1: at Dallas Goddard. I think he had three catches for
- 18:19Speaker 1: twenty eight yards, but two of those were for touchdowns.
- 18:22Speaker 1: He has seven touchdowns through eight games. That's a career
- 18:26Speaker 1: high for him. My biggest concern Ray every time he
- 18:29Speaker 1: steps on the field is I keep my fingers crossed
- 18:32Speaker 1: hoping he can stay healthy. That's the key. If he
- 18:35Speaker 1: can stay healthy, My goodness, what an additional weapon, not
- 18:38Speaker 1: just not just in the pass catching arena, but his
- 18:42Speaker 1: run blocking as well. His past blocking is so invaluable
- 18:47Speaker 1: to this to the overall flow of this offense.
- 18:51Speaker 2: It is. It is. And when you think about all
- 18:54Speaker 2: the conversation in the off season about now, we're probably
- 18:58Speaker 2: not going to bring Dallas guy back, you know, probably
- 19:01Speaker 2: not going to work out a new deal. He's hurt
- 19:03Speaker 2: too much. And you know last year he did miss
- 19:07Speaker 2: what was it four or five games? I mean he
- 19:09Speaker 2: missed a significant amount of time, but man, I would
- 19:13Speaker 2: rather have him than not have them. And when he
- 19:15Speaker 2: came back last year, in that whole postseason run, he
- 19:19Speaker 2: was their leading receiver. I mean in the post if
- 19:22Speaker 2: you just look at the postseason, he caught more passes
- 19:24Speaker 2: than Eater Smith or Brown and big catches in big spots.
- 19:28Speaker 2: That's been the way he's been throughout his career and
- 19:33Speaker 2: as a receiver. But the point that you made a
- 19:35Speaker 2: moment ago is worth mentioning. I mean, he's made himself
- 19:37Speaker 2: into a really good blocker.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 19:42Speaker 3: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why

- 21:09Speaker 2: You know when people talk about the you know, the
- 21:12Speaker 2: tight ends in the NFL right now, you know, I mean, yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 2: they always talk about Kelsey for sure, and they talk
- 21:17Speaker 2: about Kittle and they talk about Bauer. So I understand
- 21:20Speaker 2: all that, and no mention five or six guys who
- 21:23Speaker 2: they consider to be the top tight ends. You know,
- 21:26Speaker 2: Goddard like never gets mentioned, but I think you should.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I mean, and finally this year, I think he's finally
- 21:34Speaker 2: in terms of touchdowns, at least, he's putting up the
- 21:36Speaker 2: kinds of numbers where people are going to finally start
- 21:39Speaker 2: and say, hey, you know what, he's pretty good too.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And this was one of those games. Yeah, three catches
- 21:44Speaker 2: doesn't sound like a really big game, but that was
- 21:47Speaker 2: one of the better three catch games you're going to see,
- 21:50Speaker 2: you know what.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Ray I hate to say this because we've been talking
- 21:52Speaker 1: about him all too much this season, and I really
- 21:54Speaker 1: don't want to talk about him, but A J. Brown
- 21:58Speaker 1: missed the game because of a hamstring injury, and I believe, now,
- 22:03Speaker 1: again it's a one game sample, I believe this offense
- 22:07Speaker 1: flows better without him. Now, the Eagles have come out
- 22:10Speaker 1: and said emphatically they're not trading him this season. You know,
- 22:13Speaker 1: that's off season could be a different story, but they're
- 22:15Speaker 1: not trading him this season because they legitimately have another
- 22:19Speaker 1: shot to get back to the Super Bowl if they
- 22:20Speaker 1: can keep all the key components healthy. Do you think
- 22:26Speaker 1: this offense can perform at an elite level, just by
- 22:31Speaker 1: the wildness of imaginations that the Eagles decided to trade
- 22:34Speaker 1: change their mind and trade him before the trade deadline.
- 22:38Speaker 2: No, I don't. I don't, I really don't. I think
- 22:42Speaker 2: he's I know there are a lot of there are
- 22:45Speaker 2: a lot of things about him that and a lot
- 22:49Speaker 2: of it is the social media stuff. I mean, uh
- 22:53Speaker 2: that that have you just sort of shaking your head.
- 22:57Speaker 2: But yeah, he's there just aren't many receivers like him, Derek.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I mean, they have that kind of size, that kind
- 23:04Speaker 2: of strength, that kind of speed, that kind of ability.
- 23:08Speaker 2: They're rare. And the Eagles they traded for him for
- 23:12Speaker 2: a reason. And you look at what he did and
- 23:15Speaker 2: certainly his first two years. Yeah, he had a fourteen
- 23:18Speaker 2: hundred catch season, fourteen hundred yard season as first season here.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I mean, that's the kind of ability he's got. So
- 23:28Speaker 2: I in my view, if your intention this year is
- 23:32Speaker 2: really to go back to the Super Bowl and win
- 23:35Speaker 2: that thing again, I think I think you got to
- 23:38Speaker 2: keep them, you know. And I know I've had a
- 23:42Speaker 2: lot of people, and I've heard a lot of people
- 23:44Speaker 2: say there's a really good chance that he's going to
- 23:47Speaker 2: They're going to move him by the deadline and read
- 23:50Speaker 2: all kinds of things into the fact that he didn't
- 23:53Speaker 2: play on Sunday, which to me is, you know, conspiracy
- 23:59Speaker 2: theory to the eighth degree. I don't think it was
- 24:02Speaker 2: anything to that. Yeah, I I never really seriously considered
- 24:07Speaker 2: the fact that they would trade him now because I
- 24:10Speaker 2: think they they value him as a player too much.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Now.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Could they survive without him? Survive? Yeah? Make the playoffs? Yeah? Probably.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I mean I think they're going to win the division again.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I think the way things are shaping up. But if
- 24:25Speaker 2: the idea is to go back and win the Super Bowl,
- 24:28Speaker 2: in my view, I think you have a better chance
- 24:30Speaker 2: to do it with him than without.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I agree one hundred percent. The guy who gets him
- 24:36Speaker 1: the ball, maybe not enough, but does get him the ball.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Jalen hurts second straight game, impeccable game. He has three
- 24:44Speaker 1: hundred and twenty six yards passing against a very good
- 24:47Speaker 1: Vikings defense. Then he comes back and hits on fifteen
- 24:50Speaker 1: of twenty against the porous Giants defense, and he continuously
- 24:55Speaker 1: beat the blitz once again. The Giants they send an
- 24:59Speaker 1: all out blitz at him, and he finds Saquan out
- 25:02Speaker 1: in the flats wide open for a test and obviously
- 25:04Speaker 1: the Giants blew the coverage on that play, but still
- 25:07Speaker 1: he found him in time for an important score at
- 25:10Speaker 1: that time in the game. You know, I love using
- 25:13Speaker 1: the word efficient when I think about it. You know,
- 25:17Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts. People always question is he elite or is
- 25:20Speaker 1: he just good? You know, that's beauty is an eye
- 25:25Speaker 1: is in the eye of the beholder. It's what you're
- 25:27Speaker 1: looking for. But obviously he's exactly what the Eagles are
- 25:30Speaker 1: looking for for their particular offense. They don't need him
- 25:33Speaker 1: to throw the ball thirty five forty times a game,
- 25:35Speaker 1: although he has shown in the past if he has
- 25:37Speaker 1: to he can and do it very well. But the
- 25:39Speaker 1: bottom line is he gets the ball where he needs
- 25:41Speaker 1: to go. Sometimes he frustrates you by holding the ball
- 25:44Speaker 1: a little bit too long, but he doesn't turn the
- 25:48Speaker 1: ball over the all important factor in the end, he
- 25:51Speaker 1: doesn't turn the ball over.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Ray, Right, I think it's what now, fifteen touchdown passes,
- 25:56Speaker 2: one interception at this point, right, I mean, those are
- 26:00Speaker 2: pretty good numbers. And yeah, and I mean last week
- 26:05Speaker 2: that the Vikings game he put up the one point
- 26:08Speaker 2: fifty eight point three perfect He pitched the perfect game,
- 26:10Speaker 2: as it were. This game didn't quite do that, but
- 26:14Speaker 2: still really good. And the way he runs the offense,
- 26:20Speaker 2: he's just in complete control of it. You can just
- 26:22Speaker 2: kind of tell that. Does he hold the ball too long? Sometimes? Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 2: he does, a lot of it is just what's been
- 26:29Speaker 2: drilled into his head about don't make mistakes, don't turn
- 26:32Speaker 2: the ball over, protect the ball at all chosts. I
- 26:34Speaker 2: understand that. But for the most part, the ball's coming
- 26:39Speaker 2: out on time and it's going to the right guys,
- 26:42Speaker 2: you know, and it's right now. You just kind of
- 26:47Speaker 2: feel and this game was the first game you really
- 26:49Speaker 2: kind of felt like the pieces were the pieces really
- 26:51Speaker 2: kind of came together on this. Now, well, they will
- 26:57Speaker 2: hurt them to take a week off, will they lose
- 26:59Speaker 2: in an edge? And I don't think so. I think
- 27:01Speaker 2: I think the buy is actually coming at a real
- 27:03Speaker 2: good time for them right now. And we'll see when
- 27:06Speaker 2: they come out. As we said earlier, they're coming out
- 27:09Speaker 2: with two really tough games green Bay and Green Bay
- 27:11Speaker 2: on a Monday night and then Detroit back here. But
- 27:15Speaker 2: we'll see where they are. But certainly, if you looked
- 27:18Speaker 2: at what you saw on Sunday, and look, I know
- 27:21Speaker 2: the Giants are not a great team, the Giants or
- 27:23Speaker 2: the Giants, but we saw what they did to them
- 27:25Speaker 2: just two weeks earlier, and they came out and they
- 27:27Speaker 2: looked take a totally different team here. And you know
- 27:30Speaker 2: last year, if you look back at it, I mean,
- 27:34Speaker 2: everybody talks about the first four games, and coming off
- 27:37Speaker 2: the Tampa game, they were two and two, went to
- 27:39Speaker 2: the bye, and then when the people talk about they
- 27:42Speaker 2: came out of the bye and they were this different
- 27:44Speaker 2: team and they ran away with the season. Well not really.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I mean they came out with a different philosophy and
- 27:51Speaker 2: ultimately they won the Super Bowl. When you think about it,
- 27:54Speaker 2: I mean they came out of there, they played They
- 27:56Speaker 2: didn't play good against Cleveland, No, I mean, I mean
- 27:59Speaker 2: people they bought the link were booing up for God's
- 28:02Speaker 2: sake in that game. And you know, a couple weeks
- 28:04Speaker 2: down the road, they almost blew a game at home
- 28:06Speaker 2: to Jacksonville. So they had their missteps in there. Now
- 28:11Speaker 2: by the time they got into the real home stretch,
- 28:14Speaker 2: I mean, they had a hummin and we all saw that.
- 28:16Speaker 2: But I mean there was there was some sputtering and
- 28:19Speaker 2: there was some mistakes and there was some ugly stuff
- 28:22Speaker 2: in there and then, but they've finally worked it out,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and you know, maybe that's kind of what we saw
- 28:27Speaker 2: here maybe at six and two, where they are right
- 28:31Speaker 2: now is maybe about where they were at six and
- 28:33Speaker 2: two last year. You know, they hadn't yet really settled in,
- 28:38Speaker 2: but they were kind of getting to that point where
- 28:41Speaker 2: we get a few more guys healthy, now we're ready
- 28:43Speaker 2: to take off, and if they are well okay, we'll
- 28:47Speaker 2: find out soon enough because Green Bay and Detroit will
- 28:50Speaker 2: be a big test.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yes, defensively, much better performance against Jackson Dark than that
- 28:57Speaker 1: first time around. They got to him five times and
- 29:00Speaker 1: put him on the ground. They did let him just
- 29:03Speaker 1: slip and run the way he did that first game.
- 29:05Speaker 1: And I thought, as you had mentioned, we talked about
- 29:09Speaker 1: this before the taping, Jalx Hunt really stepped up. Four tackles,
- 29:14Speaker 1: one sack. But I think this is probably his best
- 29:19Speaker 1: overall game this season.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so too. I think so too. I
- 29:25Speaker 2: saw the official statute. I think they had him down
- 29:27Speaker 2: for nine pressures, geez, which and he did have one sack,
- 29:31Speaker 2: one solo sack, but he had nine pressures as well,
- 29:34Speaker 2: which was the most of anybody on the team. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: thought this was his best game. Yeah. I had thought,
- 29:41Speaker 2: to be honest, earlier the season, I was kind of disappointed,
- 29:45Speaker 2: you know, I really was. I after what I saw
- 29:48Speaker 2: of him late last season, when he got more of
- 29:51Speaker 2: a chance to play, and even more so in the postseason,
- 29:56Speaker 2: I thought, this guy is really he's a young player.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I know that, small school, I know that, but he
- 30:04Speaker 2: was really showing me something. And I've really kind of
- 30:07Speaker 2: thought that when they lost a lot of guys off
- 30:10Speaker 2: the defense in the offseason that giving his kid more
- 30:15Speaker 2: snaps and giving him more opportunities, that he would step
- 30:19Speaker 2: in and he would be really good. And he had
- 30:22Speaker 2: his moments, but overall I was a little disappointed, to
- 30:26Speaker 2: be honest. But this past game, I mean, he really
- 30:30Speaker 2: showed up, and I thought that. I think that that
- 30:34Speaker 2: Vic Fangio did a really good job with his guys
- 30:37Speaker 2: in the preparation for this game, looking at the film
- 30:41Speaker 2: of Dart and seeing just how elusive this kid is
- 30:46Speaker 2: and how slippery he is getting out of the pocket
- 30:48Speaker 2: and getting outside and making plays, and the Eagles didn't
- 30:52Speaker 2: let him. I mean, the game up in New York,
- 30:54Speaker 2: he was doing that all night long and making big plays.
- 30:58Speaker 2: This game, the Eagles did a much better job of
- 31:00Speaker 2: him and him in and times you could see him
- 31:03Speaker 2: trying to get out and they didn't let him out.
- 31:05Speaker 2: So they were much better prepared for him this time
- 31:08Speaker 2: than they were a couple of weeks ago.
- 31:11Speaker 1: If there was one blemish in this game just in general,
- 31:14Speaker 1: it was that injury to Cam Scataboo. I mean, Zach
- 31:17Speaker 1: Bond tackles him and you see him on the ground,
- 31:20Speaker 1: He's pointing at his ankle and you see it on
- 31:22Speaker 1: the camera. His ankles turned sideways.
- 31:25Speaker 2: And I was.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Really proud of the Philadelphia fan base that stood up
- 31:29Speaker 1: and gave this young man a standing ovation. You know,
- 31:32Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles fan base gets such a black guy
- 31:35Speaker 1: nationally in terms of how they're perceived, but what a
- 31:39Speaker 1: class act they were applauding Cam and showing respect for him.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I mean, a guy who doesn't even have a complete
- 31:47Speaker 1: half season in the National Football League, but he's all
- 31:50Speaker 1: of a sudden become the talk around the league because
- 31:52Speaker 1: of his style of play, and what the Philadelphia fan
- 31:55Speaker 1: base did. I think really should have elevated status in
- 32:00Speaker 1: terms of being not just loyal passion of football, fans,
- 32:04Speaker 1: but respectful fans of good talent going down.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but you and I both know that won't happen.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, I know.
- 32:12Speaker 2: But but what I was actually, if you hadn't brought
- 32:16Speaker 2: it up, I was going to I thought this. I
- 32:19Speaker 2: thought the same thing. I thought that that that was
- 32:23Speaker 2: a gesture of really great sportsmanship when a part of
- 32:26Speaker 2: the Philadelphia fans, and because it was the New York
- 32:31Speaker 2: and because the press box was full of New York media,
- 32:35Speaker 2: I wondered. I wondered if that would maybe change the
- 32:39Speaker 2: perception a little bit that doing that, having that kind
- 32:43Speaker 2: of response, which was really classy. I thought, with the
- 32:48Speaker 2: New York media, which is very hostile and always has
- 32:50Speaker 2: been very hostile about Philadelphia fans, if that would maybe
- 32:54Speaker 2: begin to change some of the thinking of some of
- 32:57Speaker 2: those people. Now, I don't know if it will, but
- 32:59Speaker 2: I I certainly thought about it. And you know, scatter
- 33:04Speaker 2: scatter Brow is he's a player you really like. I mean,
- 33:09Speaker 2: he's he's a hard nosed kid who plays really hard.
- 33:13Speaker 2: And you know a lot of the scouts said, oh,
- 33:15Speaker 2: he's not that big and he's not that fast, YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 33:19Speaker 2: but he has such tremendous desire, and you can see
- 33:22Speaker 2: the difference that he has made on that Giants team
- 33:24Speaker 2: this year. Uh and listen, if if he was playing
- 33:29Speaker 2: for the Eagles, with this city love him, I mean
- 33:32Speaker 2: he would be he would be so popular here. And
- 33:35Speaker 2: I think you saw it that, even we're in a
- 33:37Speaker 2: Giants uniform, the people here respected the kind of competitor
- 33:41Speaker 2: he was. And so you know, when I think about
- 33:44Speaker 2: all the times that we in Philadelphia here and we're
- 33:48Speaker 2: reminded by fans about, oh, you booed you know, you
- 33:53Speaker 2: you booed Dion Sanders when he got hurt here. You know,
- 33:56Speaker 2: you booed Moon Michael Irvin when he got hurt here.
- 33:59Speaker 2: You were you were so mean? And those are largely
- 34:03Speaker 2: bogus stories, but I mean that's the rap that was
- 34:06Speaker 2: hung around everybody's neck here for decades. I thought that
- 34:10Speaker 2: this was an occasion where the Philadelphia fans showed what
- 34:13Speaker 2: they really are, which is really classy, really knowledgeable and
- 34:16Speaker 2: respectful fans. And I was glad to see it. Now.
- 34:19Speaker 2: How much how much that will go about changing the
- 34:22Speaker 2: overall perception the Philadelphia fans, I would like to think
- 34:25Speaker 2: it will. I don't know that it will, but I
- 34:27Speaker 2: would like to think it will. And you know, I
- 34:29Speaker 2: thought it was I thought it was something that I
- 34:31Speaker 2: was I was happy to see the fans respond the
- 34:33Speaker 2: way they did. And today we got the news that
- 34:37Speaker 2: Big Dom delivered a pizza to the Kidnaps, not just
- 34:41Speaker 2: the pizza, but and Angelo's cheese steaged also. So what
- 34:46Speaker 2: more can you do to prove that we really are
- 34:48Speaker 2: great sports fans? I was really happy to see that.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough, parking, traffic,
- 34:55Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, but when it comes

- 35:50Speaker 1: Can we talk about the officiating for just a moment? Oh,
- 35:54Speaker 1: you talk about a Grotius Ray. That was one of
- 35:58Speaker 1: the worst officiated games I've seen in a long time.
- 36:00Speaker 1: But it's been happening across the National Football League for
- 36:03Speaker 1: the last several years now.
- 36:04Speaker 2: It has well Listen, we've had you and I have
- 36:08Speaker 2: had I mean, he has played eight games. I think
- 36:11Speaker 2: in at least three of them, maybe four of them.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Half of them, we've had this discussion. Yeah, we've said
- 36:17Speaker 2: I think I said, this is one of the worst
- 36:19Speaker 2: officiated games I've ever seen. I think we've said it
- 36:21Speaker 2: like three or four times just this year. And this
- 36:25Speaker 2: one may have been the worst. This one may have
- 36:28Speaker 2: been the worst, you know, And there are a lot
- 36:32Speaker 2: of things about the way the league does business now
- 36:34Speaker 2: that just make me shake my head. You know. I
- 36:38Speaker 2: wish I wish the guy's up on Park Avenue and
- 36:42Speaker 2: I'm going all the way up to the top. Roger Goodell,
- 36:44Speaker 2: the commissioner, I wish they spent half as much time
- 36:48Speaker 2: worrying about their game and the state of their game,
- 36:53Speaker 2: and the way their game is played and the way
- 36:55Speaker 2: their game is officiated. I wish they spent half as
- 36:58Speaker 2: much time worrying about that as they do play in
- 37:00Speaker 2: football games in Madrid. I wish that they would just
- 37:06Speaker 2: just be the caretakers of their game, you know, and
- 37:09Speaker 2: make it as good a game as it can possibly be.
- 37:12Speaker 2: You know, don't worry about selling T shirts and hoodies
- 37:17Speaker 2: in Munich, you know. I mean, look at your game,
- 37:20Speaker 2: in the state of your game, and look at your officiating.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And I mean all across the Eagles game was an
- 37:25Speaker 2: atrocious example of it. But all across the league, the
- 37:29Speaker 2: caliber the officiating, and it doesn't seem like it's ever
- 37:32Speaker 2: getting any better. I mean every year, every year, we
- 37:36Speaker 2: you me, we all say that I've got to do
- 37:38Speaker 2: something about the officiating, you know, and every year it
- 37:42Speaker 2: comes back and it's the same thing all over again.
- 37:44Speaker 2: And boy, if you want to just take one case
- 37:48Speaker 2: and just one case study and just put it up
- 37:51Speaker 2: on a screen, this would be a good game to
- 37:53Speaker 2: start with because the officiating was just brutal for both teams.
- 37:57Speaker 2: For both it went, it went both ways. But it's unfortunately,
- 38:01Speaker 2: it's not an isolated situation. You look across the league
- 38:03Speaker 2: and you have this kind officiating all the time.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I don't understand how they get as many calls wrong
- 38:09Speaker 1: as they do when you consider you have twenty five
- 38:11Speaker 1: twenty six cameras on the field, you have so called
- 38:15Speaker 1: experts back in New York who go over this stuff
- 38:18Speaker 1: and make the ruling and send it back down to
- 38:20Speaker 1: the officials. And yet time after time they still get
- 38:22Speaker 1: certain calls that Jackson Dary play should have been a fumble,
- 38:28Speaker 1: the Darius Slayton play should have played with Slayton should
- 38:31Speaker 1: have been a touchdown. When they call offensive pass in appearance, no,
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's hand to hand combat. How many times have we
- 38:37Speaker 1: seen wide receivers in cornerbacks or safeties aren't hand battling
- 38:42Speaker 1: like that, And it's not called it's either a catch
- 38:44Speaker 1: or incompletion. But all of a sudden in this particular game,
- 38:47Speaker 1: So the Eagles got jobbed a couple of times. You know,
- 38:51Speaker 1: the Giants got jobbed a couple of times as well.
- 38:54Speaker 1: And you know, I mean We're glad the Eagles won
- 38:57Speaker 1: the game, but if certain players were called correctly, you know,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I wonder if it had been a little bit more
- 39:03Speaker 1: competitive game. And of course the Jalen Hurts when he
- 39:06Speaker 1: extended the ball that should have still been a fumble.
- 39:09Speaker 1: He was still moving forward. I believe it was Stevedough
- 39:12Speaker 1: who ripped the ball out of his hands, and they said,
- 39:18Speaker 1: momentumums stop. No, it had not, It did not stop.
- 39:21Speaker 1: But yet they keep getting this stuff wrong time and
- 39:24Speaker 1: time again. Now obviously looking at those players a little
- 39:27Speaker 1: bit more extensively, Mike lengthen the game more and I
- 39:30Speaker 1: know football, like baseball has done, is trying to quicken
- 39:33Speaker 1: the game in terms of how long a game lasts.
- 39:35Speaker 1: But the bottom line for me, I don't care which
- 39:38Speaker 1: side of this get get the calls right. You have
- 39:41Speaker 1: every element at your disposal to get these calls right.
- 39:44Speaker 1: There's no excuse for getting calls wrong like that.
- 39:46Speaker 2: And they still don't, and they still don't. You're exactly right.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I mean that was when they when they finally pushed
- 39:54Speaker 2: instant replay through after years of trying, and you know,
- 39:59Speaker 2: text shred with the father of it, I mean, tech
- 40:02Speaker 2: Shram was the guy that fought for it, fought for it,
- 40:04Speaker 2: fought for it all the time. And you know, I
- 40:08Speaker 2: like text. I knew him, and we used to talk
- 40:12Speaker 2: about instant replay all the time and how it would
- 40:15Speaker 2: if you really get it in, If you really get
- 40:18Speaker 2: it in, it's going to change the game. And Tex said, yes,
- 40:22Speaker 2: for the better because we'll be able to get the
- 40:24Speaker 2: calls right. Well, it's been in all this time and
- 40:27Speaker 2: you're still getting the calls wrong. And the one play
- 40:31Speaker 2: that you just mentioned there, the tush push play, was
- 40:35Speaker 2: clearly a fumble. I mean, it was clearly a fumble.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I mean to me, it wasn't even close. And that unfortunately,
- 40:44Speaker 2: if you're an Eagles fan, yes, you've got the benefit
- 40:46Speaker 2: of the call right there, but down the road, if
- 40:49Speaker 2: you look at the bigger picture, that's going to be
- 40:51Speaker 2: one of the pieces of evidence they're going to bring
- 40:53Speaker 2: to the Competition Committee at the end to get this,
- 40:56Speaker 2: to get the tush push outlawed at the end of
- 40:58Speaker 2: this year, because they're they're argument will be last year.
- 41:02Speaker 2: They tried to go with it's an unsafe play there
- 41:04Speaker 2: too many players get hurt. Oh, they didn't have the
- 41:06Speaker 2: evidence to back that up. But their argument this year,
- 41:10Speaker 2: and I think it's going to work. It's going to
- 41:12Speaker 2: be it's too hard to officiate. You know, it's too
- 41:14Speaker 2: hard to officiate. You know, you got you got linemen
- 41:17Speaker 2: or in motion. There's false starts that you can't see
- 41:19Speaker 2: with what everybody's all bunched up. Now you've got to
- 41:22Speaker 2: play here where what should have been a fumble not
- 41:25Speaker 2: a fumble? Well, who knows. Uh, that's that's going to
- 41:29Speaker 2: be their argument, that it's too hard to play to officiate.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:33Speaker 2: And I honestly think that this time it will win.
- 41:36Speaker 2: This time they'll win it and they'll get a thrown out.
- 41:39Speaker 2: That's I I don't think there's a chance in the
- 41:42Speaker 2: world that Tush Push is going to survive another one
- 41:45Speaker 2: of those votes. I think it's going to go out
- 41:47Speaker 2: on this on the basis of this argument, and the
- 41:50Speaker 2: play on Sunday is going to be part of the
- 41:52Speaker 2: as part of the evidence they're going to lay out there.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Well, the bottom line is this Eagles team adds to
- 41:58Speaker 1: their bye week six and two. Now they get time
- 42:01Speaker 1: to mentally, physically, emotionally heal up and hopefully get some
- 42:05Speaker 1: key components back for the stretch run. Because what a
- 42:08Speaker 1: stretch run it's going to be is as you mentioned,
- 42:10Speaker 1: coming out of the gate, going to lambeau Field Lines
- 42:14Speaker 1: at home and then having to go down to Dallas. Now,
- 42:16Speaker 1: say what you want to say about Dallas. They can't
- 42:18Speaker 1: stop anybody defensively, but they're undefeated at home, and they
- 42:21Speaker 1: put up a lot of points at home, and they
- 42:24Speaker 1: can't wait to get another shot at the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 42:26Speaker 1: You still have two games coming up against Washington, you
- 42:30Speaker 1: still have to play Buffalo as well, So it's no
- 42:34Speaker 1: easy road to hold for this particular team. Now we
- 42:37Speaker 1: talk about getting bodies healed up, but they will also
- 42:39Speaker 1: get some additional help with our old friend Brandon Graham
- 42:43Speaker 1: deciding to leave the rocking chair and getting back into trenches.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And boy do they need some help at defensive end,
- 42:49Speaker 1: on the edge rushing aspect of it. Don't know how
- 42:51Speaker 1: much Brandon can give them in terms of physical ability,
- 42:55Speaker 1: but his value in that locker room and mentoring play,
- 43:01Speaker 1: keeping the locker room light hearted, being a very playful,
- 43:05Speaker 1: not disrespectful, very playful trash talker is invaluable to what
- 43:10Speaker 1: this team will need for the stretch run.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I mean it was you know, Merle
- 43:17Speaker 2: Reese and I were having a discussion about this last week,
- 43:19Speaker 2: and we both, like, you we we really love the guy.
- 43:25Speaker 2: He's one of I've been covering this team for fifty years, literally,
- 43:30Speaker 2: and I've seen a lot of guys come and go.
- 43:32Speaker 2: But in terms of likability, in terms of just being
- 43:36Speaker 2: a good dude, I mean, Brandon Graham is like right
- 43:39Speaker 2: there at the top, at the top of the pyramid.
- 43:42Speaker 2: I mean, he's that great a guy and we all
- 43:44Speaker 2: we all feel that way about him. Uh. And we
- 43:48Speaker 2: were talking about his decision to come back, and and
- 43:52Speaker 2: Merle said, there's a part I love having him back.
- 43:56Speaker 2: You know, he's great, you know, walking the locker room,
- 43:58Speaker 2: he's just a burst of a burst of energy and sunshine. True.
- 44:02Speaker 2: But Merle said, I there's a part of me that
- 44:05Speaker 2: I just feel like he had the perfect exit, you know.
- 44:09Speaker 2: You know, he came back, he played in the Super Bowl,
- 44:12Speaker 2: he won the Super Bowl, and he had that great
- 44:15Speaker 2: press conference and he just kind of rode off into
- 44:17Speaker 2: the sunset, which is what every player dreams of doing,
- 44:20Speaker 2: and he did it. And Merle said, I kind of
- 44:23Speaker 2: just wish he had stayed there. You know, there's a
- 44:26Speaker 2: part of me that just kind of wishes that he
- 44:28Speaker 2: had taken that. And my feeling is, well, yeah, maybe
- 44:31Speaker 2: he comes back this year and wins another one and
- 44:33Speaker 2: he could do the press conference. You use the script
- 44:35Speaker 2: of the last press comments that use it again'll be
- 44:37Speaker 2: just as good. But in just planet past the personality
- 44:42Speaker 2: thing and just get into the plane x as and nose.
- 44:44Speaker 2: They just need some bodies out there, you know, on defense,
- 44:48Speaker 2: and they need they need somebody that can just give
- 44:50Speaker 2: them another twelve to even if it's just twelve to
- 44:54Speaker 2: fifteen good snaps, Yeah exactly, that's you know, nobody's nobody's
- 44:58Speaker 2: saying he's got to come in and play eighty percent
- 45:00Speaker 2: of the snaps. Nobody's going to ask him to, nobody
- 45:02Speaker 2: expects him to. But just if you just maybe fifteen
- 45:06Speaker 2: good snaps that can make that can help. That can
- 45:10Speaker 2: make a difference. In addition to all the stuff he
- 45:12Speaker 2: brings you off the field, the leadership, which is a
- 45:15Speaker 2: very real thing with this team, which you've got such
- 45:18Speaker 2: a young defense. I mean, having another veteran guy or
- 45:21Speaker 2: that really does help. But I think I think just
- 45:23Speaker 2: a simple on the field, gets another pass rusher, I
- 45:28Speaker 2: think you can help this team I didn't have any
- 45:30Speaker 2: reservations about it, you know. And and he said himself,
- 45:35Speaker 2: he said, look, I wasn't really sure I wanted to leave,
- 45:38Speaker 2: you know, I felt like I could still play. But
- 45:41Speaker 2: to Merrell's point, it just seemed like the perfect exit.
- 45:44Speaker 2: And the Eagles seemed to feel like they were pretty
- 45:46Speaker 2: comfortable with the guys they had, so okay, I'll go.
- 45:50Speaker 2: But in his mind he could still play, And you
- 45:52Speaker 2: know what, after fifteen years, if he wants to, if
- 45:56Speaker 2: he wants to give it another shot, I'm fine with it.
- 46:00Speaker 1: I couldn't agree with you more. Well, you know, I
- 46:03Speaker 1: can't wait to see what happens with this team over
- 46:05Speaker 1: the last nine games. Should be exciting because there is
- 46:08Speaker 1: a lot of ballast in the NFC and there's going
- 46:09Speaker 1: to be a lot of teams jockeying for that number
- 46:12Speaker 1: one seed down this stretch. That'll do it for this
- 46:15Speaker 1: edition of Birds Weekly, presented by the Inside of the
- 46:18Speaker 1: Birds Network. For my colleague and friend Raydinger. I'm Derek Gunn.
- 46:21Speaker 1: We will talk to you next time.
