- 0:01Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald is our Broncos insider.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five Pro Football.
- 0:07Speaker 3: The insider I've covered while Jeff.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Legwall he's the balloon popper.
- 0:12Speaker 3: He doesn't blow it up.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 2: i BDW Local sixty eight. Start with the chomp and
- 0:19Speaker 2: with the career. It's Leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:25Speaker 2: two five.
- 0:32Speaker 1: All right, now, re number two, let's dive right into it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald. Time here on a Monday afternoon. Jeff Legwald
- 0:38Speaker 1: joins us on the ramos Law Hotline car accident. You
- 0:41Speaker 1: need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney. Visit Ramoslaw dot com. Uh, Jeff,
- 0:48Speaker 1: mister Sunshine spin some positives in a forty one to
- 0:53Speaker 1: ten defeat last night. Tell me something good about that
- 0:58Speaker 1: Bronco performance in Baltimore. Go do some digging and get
- 1:04Speaker 1: back to me right now.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It was the nicest day I've ever covered a game
- 1:10Speaker 3: in Baltimore. I'll I'll just say that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Sun was shining sixty degrees.
- 1:16Speaker 3: A beautiful day. I've never covered a game in Baltimore
- 1:19Speaker 3: when it was that nice. So they the Broncos can't
- 1:24Speaker 3: even blame the weather for what happened.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And it was nice enough that not even the shadow
- 1:30Speaker 1: of a Broncos defensive back could impede a Ravens wide
- 1:35Speaker 1: receiver yesterday. Why was everybody so open down the field
- 1:42Speaker 1: for Baltimore?
- 1:44Speaker 3: You know, Nate, this is what Lamar does for you.
- 1:48Speaker 3: You know. The Broncos obviously made a decision, Uh, they're
- 1:52Speaker 3: gonna play a lot of zone so they could face
- 1:55Speaker 3: the ball, you know, and keep an eye obviously, you know,
- 2:00Speaker 3: have a better chance to keep their eyes on Lamar.
- 2:04Speaker 3: When you play man, you turn your back, your back
- 2:07Speaker 3: to the ball a lot and quarterbacks are taught, you know,
- 2:11Speaker 3: when you're in trouble against man, take off because there's
- 2:14Speaker 3: plenty of space. So they obviously made the decision, uh,
- 2:18Speaker 3: at the onset that that was going to be how
- 2:21Speaker 3: they were going to do it. And then you and
- 2:24Speaker 3: they don't. They haven't played that much man or zone
- 2:27Speaker 3: this year. They play a lot of man, that's what
- 2:29Speaker 3: they do. It's or they at least play a lot
- 2:31Speaker 3: of combination coverages with a portion of it man. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: with Sir tan you know, and and you know they
- 2:39Speaker 3: worked last week with with Sir Tan on on Zay Jones,
- 2:45Speaker 3: you know, or Flowers rather.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Uh.
- 2:48Speaker 3: They worked on that, especially in the red zone. They
- 2:51Speaker 3: wrecked it, and then you don't see it in the game,
- 2:54Speaker 3: and I have a hard time believing. Uh, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 3: he finishes with one hundred yards receiving if if certain's
- 3:00Speaker 3: on them all day and you take your chances with
- 3:02Speaker 3: the rest of the guys. They also est five man
- 3:07Speaker 3: pressures they've run all year, and you know, so they
- 3:11Speaker 3: turned down an aggressive pass rush and played a lot
- 3:15Speaker 3: of zone and didn't play zone very well. So you
- 3:18Speaker 3: put that together against a really good offense, you're gonna
- 3:21Speaker 3: have a lot of touchdowns. I think the most a
- 3:25Speaker 3: lot of ugly stats for the Broncos, but forty one
- 3:28Speaker 3: points on fifty four plays for the Ravens is just
- 3:32Speaker 3: about as ugly as you can have.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Jeff, Jeff, why do you think it went that way?
- 3:37Speaker 4: You know, I said earlier in the show, I thought
- 3:39Speaker 4: I was a little concerned because I heard I heard
- 3:42Speaker 4: VJ talk in midweek about not sure what to do.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You want to spy the guy, but is the spy
- 3:46Speaker 4: of wasteed? You want to pass rush them? And yet
- 3:49Speaker 4: you and I know VJ likes to be aggressive. That's
- 3:52Speaker 4: kind of who he's decided he's going to be, and
- 3:53Speaker 4: it's worked a great success through the first part of
- 3:56Speaker 4: this season. Do you think he went away from what
- 3:58Speaker 4: he wanted to do? Why wouldn't they run that coverage
- 4:01Speaker 4: matching like you talked about.
- 4:03Speaker 3: You know, I don't know, you know, did it come
- 4:05Speaker 3: from Sean Payton? They did, They decided democratically in a meeting.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I don't. I don't have the answer to that, but
- 4:12Speaker 3: I sat there and watched them play differently than they've
- 4:17Speaker 3: played all season long, and the results were not spectacular.
- 4:21Speaker 3: And then you couple that with an offense that just
- 4:24Speaker 3: has zero pop against. That's one of the worst big
- 4:29Speaker 3: play defenses in the league this year. They've given up
- 4:32Speaker 3: more explosive plays than almost everyone, and the Broncos had
- 4:37Speaker 3: a couple thirty a thirty two yard play, a thirty
- 4:40Speaker 3: three yard play. Those are technically explosives, but they didn't
- 4:44Speaker 3: do the damage other people have done this year. And again,
- 4:49Speaker 3: you know, a rookie quarterback was in some difficult spots
- 4:54Speaker 3: as accuracy suffers. You know, we've talked about an early
- 5:00Speaker 3: mistake with bow Nicks and things don't go well after that,
- 5:04Speaker 3: and they didn't, and there's a there's a stretch there.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Broncos make the game seventeen to ten, and then from
- 5:12Speaker 3: that point on until it's thirty eight ten. The Broncos
- 5:17Speaker 3: ran four plays on offense, four so and one of
- 5:23Speaker 3: them is a kneeled out. So it's just you know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: they went up in weight class and they were not
- 5:31Speaker 3: prepared for what they found.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald on a Monday afternoon, brought to you by
- 5:35Speaker 1: the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW Local sixty eight.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You start with a job, you end with a career.
- 5:43Speaker 1: First half ratios Andy and I were talking about this before,
- 5:46Speaker 1: weren't bad. You were twenty one throws to twenty runs
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the first half, like you were. You were alive
- 5:52Speaker 1: in your game plan, and you were generally balanced. By
- 5:55Speaker 1: the time they touched the ball in the second half,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the down twenty one run games out the window. Okay, yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but the run game in short yardage situation on this
- 6:03Speaker 1: team stinks. Javonte Williams is not good at picking up
- 6:09Speaker 1: yardage in short yardage situations. The full back dive is
- 6:15Speaker 1: it's just a hole in the playbook right now. Yet,
- 6:17Speaker 1: for whatever reason, they like to continue to call it
- 6:19Speaker 1: Audre Guestime, who I think should be good in these situations,
- 6:23Speaker 1: but he makes mistakes and then he ends up in
- 6:25Speaker 1: Sean Payton's doghouse. Right now, Jeff, there's got to be
- 6:29Speaker 1: a better path for this team to be able to
- 6:32Speaker 1: get tough yardage than the one they're trying right.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Well, yes, and you know my thought is always try
- 6:43Speaker 3: one game. I mean, just try one game. If it's wrong,
- 6:47Speaker 3: it's wrong, and you know, apologies all around, but three
- 6:51Speaker 3: wide has been this team's dominant formation in every single
- 6:56Speaker 3: game this year. And it's not close because they're trying
- 6:59Speaker 3: to give bone knicks as clean a look at a
- 7:02Speaker 3: defense as he can possibly get. And I even asked
- 7:07Speaker 3: Sean Payton after the game yesterday. They went tempo, not
- 7:11Speaker 3: because they thought it was the best move, but they
- 7:14Speaker 3: thought it calmed down the Ravens pressure packages. So they
- 7:19Speaker 3: didn't they didn't make an offensive call with this is
- 7:23Speaker 3: what we do the best in mind. They made offense
- 7:27Speaker 3: a major offensive call and how to keep the quarterback
- 7:32Speaker 3: calm and and sort of protected, and I just you know,
- 7:40Speaker 3: this is what was going to happen. You know, when
- 7:42Speaker 3: you're gonna start a rookie at quarterback, and it's what
- 7:46Speaker 3: they're asking bon Knicks to do is really hard and
- 7:49Speaker 3: it's not getting any easier when they try to get
- 7:53Speaker 3: so cute. And so, I mean, there's there's one play
- 7:57Speaker 3: late in the game. They're in a two back set finally,
- 8:01Speaker 3: but Courtland Sutton's the loan back in the backfield and
- 8:05Speaker 3: that play ends up with bo Nicks running around in
- 8:08Speaker 3: a sack. And to me, that's like a big flag. Okay,
- 8:12Speaker 3: too cute. Let's dial down the cute and just play
- 8:16Speaker 3: football for a minute. And look, if that's not the
- 8:21Speaker 3: way to go, then you try it one time. But
- 8:24Speaker 3: until I see them try it and then tell me
- 8:27Speaker 3: it doesn't work, then I'm gonna say keep saying how
- 8:31Speaker 3: about you try it and see because it gets more
- 8:36Speaker 3: t bosque as the season goes along. Snap the ball,
- 8:40Speaker 3: quarterback runs around, hopes for the best because they're in
- 8:44Speaker 3: five man protections again. I mean, yesterday they had multiple
- 8:50Speaker 3: snaps of actual four wide receivers, not four players lined
- 8:55Speaker 3: up wide four wide receivers in empty sets. They don't
- 9:00Speaker 3: protect those. He doesn't know what to do with them.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Once he gets the ball, Yes, he gets a clean
- 9:06Speaker 3: look at the coverages but they don't protect him in
- 9:10Speaker 3: those sets, and it's and I think it just shows up.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And again, you know, he's had multiple games this year
- 9:18Speaker 3: where he makes an early mistake, and I just think
- 9:20Speaker 3: it's hard for a rookie to get past that when
- 9:24Speaker 3: you're you know, been told all week it's a big game,
- 9:26Speaker 3: they're a good team, you know, and you make an
- 9:29Speaker 3: early mistake that's not even your fault. Really, you know
- 9:32Speaker 3: that tipball interceptions, it's a little high by bo Knicks,
- 9:36Speaker 3: but that's still a catchup an NFL receiver should make.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But I think you know again that every time they
- 9:44Speaker 3: made a little mistake, the Ravens were there. I mean,
- 9:47Speaker 3: one team very good in certain situations and really good
- 9:54Speaker 3: on offense and has been in games where one or
- 9:59Speaker 3: two mistakes hip the balance and they know how to
- 10:01Speaker 3: do it. And you know, and you saw why the
- 10:05Speaker 3: guy's been MVP twice and right now would be as
- 10:10Speaker 3: his third win.
- 10:11Speaker 4: All right, we only got a couple of minutes, so
- 10:13Speaker 4: I gotta ask you quick and answer it quick. Any
- 10:15Speaker 4: more moves on the Riseing with Browning traded.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Don't listen to everything, and you just don't know that
- 10:20Speaker 3: they have much wherewithal to take on contracts to get somebody,
- 10:25Speaker 3: you know, and they made their pick. Both Cooper and
- 10:29Speaker 3: Browning were gonna be free agents. Their their cap situation
- 10:32Speaker 3: makes it impossible for them to pay both. I'm sure
- 10:36Speaker 3: they had to tweak one or two deals just to
- 10:38Speaker 3: get Cooper done. So I haven't seen the official tally
- 10:44Speaker 3: yet of what all that looks like. But they made
- 10:46Speaker 3: their call. They picked Cooper, and they traded Browning for
- 10:50Speaker 3: the best deal they could get.
