- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Play fake, go to roll right, dumps it
- 0:07Speaker 1: off into the right flasf to Michael Bumpers, who bounces
- 0:09Speaker 1: off a one tackler gets inside the forty down of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the thirty five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Matt pumpfake's looking to the gold line.
- 0:17Speaker 2: He throws it into the m zone. Touchdown.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumps with.
- 0:21Speaker 1: A diving catching the end zone.
- 0:23Speaker 2: A ten yard.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid out of Washington
- 0:28Speaker 4: State has found himself a place.
- 0:30Speaker 3: On this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Chobee.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk, getting you ready
- 0:37Speaker 4: for the Seahawks and lines this weekend as the Seahawks
- 0:39Speaker 4: tried to get over that Week one loss to the Rams.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I'm Nasa chobe I'm here with my guy, Michael Bumpus,
- 0:44Speaker 4: and before we get into the lines, get on tap.
- 0:46Speaker 4: I got a little injury update. Some roster moves going
- 0:49Speaker 4: down with the Seahawks on Wednesday. Unfortunately, guard or tackle
- 0:54Speaker 4: Abraham Lucas is going to IR, meaning he's not eligible
- 0:57Speaker 4: returned for at least another four games. The Seahawks were
- 1:00Speaker 4: active adding some depth to the roster at tackle, signing
- 1:04Speaker 4: a pair of undrafted rookies to the fifty three man roster.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Tackle Rokwan O'Neill signed off Tampa Bay's practice squad, while
- 1:10Speaker 4: McClinton and Curtis signed out for Las Vegas practice squad.
- 1:13Speaker 4: O'Neill went undrafted out of UCLA, starting thirteen games at
- 1:16Speaker 4: left tackle last season, and Curtis played out of Tennessee Chattanooga,
- 1:20Speaker 4: starting thirty eight games in his college career. Also earlier
- 1:24Speaker 4: this week, the Seahawks signed veteran Jason Peters you remember
- 1:26Speaker 4: him from the Cowboys and most notably the Eagles and Bills,
- 1:30Speaker 4: as well as Greg Island to their practice squad Tuesday
- 1:33Speaker 4: before Curtis and O'Neill. So a little update there for everybody.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Not what you're looking for from a health perspective, but
- 1:41Speaker 4: the Seahawks will make it work. Adding some depth to
- 1:44Speaker 4: that offensive line. Let's get back into the Lions. What's
- 1:47Speaker 4: on tap?
- 1:51Speaker 1: What's on tap?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Bump man? These lines are for real.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Yeah, they're one to zero beat the Chief. Opening week,
- 2:01Speaker 4: they're celebrating their Super Bowl trophy bomb. But what have
- 2:03Speaker 4: you seen from this line seem so far this year?
- 2:07Speaker 5: Hey, Like you said that for real, and they're not
- 2:10Speaker 5: sneaking up on anybody, man. They finished winning eight of
- 2:13Speaker 5: their last ten games last season and got a victory
- 2:15Speaker 5: at lambeau Field that helped us out.
- 2:17Speaker 3: So thank you, Lines.
- 2:18Speaker 5: We appreciate your contributions to the Seattle Seahawks got us
- 2:21Speaker 5: into the playoffs, and early in the season we played
- 2:26Speaker 5: them and we saw the potential of this team, and
- 2:28Speaker 5: as the season unfolded, you're thinking, man, these guys are
- 2:30Speaker 5: for real.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Man.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Jared Golf was over there doing this thing. The run
- 2:33Speaker 5: game was good. That changed a little bit. But always
- 2:35Speaker 5: go back to when people were laughing at Dan Campbell,
- 2:38Speaker 5: we're gonna be biting at the knee cast. And they
- 2:40Speaker 5: just showed that part of the conference. They didn't of
- 2:43Speaker 5: the conference. They didn't show the whole thing. There was
- 2:46Speaker 5: a lot more substance behind what he was saying. But
- 2:49Speaker 5: you know how they do on the media. They're gonna
- 2:50Speaker 5: isolate some things and then highlight that. But they came
- 2:55Speaker 5: out swinging, and you mentioned they beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Can see Chiefs were in celebration mode. We just won
- 3:00Speaker 5: a Super Bowl last year. That's half good times Thursday
- 3:04Speaker 5: night football, and the Lions came in and said, nah,
- 3:06Speaker 5: we get on that. We're gonna go ahead and get
- 3:08Speaker 5: this w and move along. I was impressed. Even if
- 3:11Speaker 5: the Chiefs did not have Chris Jones and Travis Kelsey.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I don't care about none of that.
- 3:15Speaker 5: You're the defending champions and the Detroit Lions say, y'all
- 3:18Speaker 5: better take us serious.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't care where it is. I mean, the
- 3:21Speaker 4: Seahawks learned that Week one, the Bengals learned that. Everyone
- 3:24Speaker 4: learned that it's a National Football League. Anyone can went
- 3:26Speaker 4: on then and give a Sunday So to go to
- 3:28Speaker 4: that place at Arrowhead and win in that environment, it's
- 3:30Speaker 4: super impressive. I mean the game, you know, did Travis
- 3:34Speaker 4: Kelsey not be in there hurt the Chiefs?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Of course it did.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Of the best sight ends in the game, but they
- 3:39Speaker 4: still had Patrick Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes one of the
- 3:41Speaker 4: best quarterbacks in the game. They did their thing and
- 3:45Speaker 4: look into this head to head bump man, It's only
- 3:48Speaker 4: been one week, right, so we talk about this every year.
- 3:51Speaker 4: You can't really dive into the head to head until
- 3:54Speaker 4: at least maybe three or four games to really have
- 3:57Speaker 4: a sample size, but for the case of this, we're
- 3:59Speaker 4: gonna do it anyway. The Lions after one week, they're
- 4:02Speaker 4: ranked at number seventh an offense three hundred and sixty
- 4:05Speaker 4: eight yards, ninth in rush offense at one hundred and
- 4:08Speaker 4: eighteen yards a game, six in pass offense two hundred
- 4:11Speaker 4: and fifty yards, and tied for thirteenth at twenty one. On
- 4:14Speaker 4: the flip side, not looking good. Bump Seahawks thirtieth after
- 4:17Speaker 4: their game against the Rams and offense only one hundred
- 4:20Speaker 4: and eighty yards, twenty second with rush offense, twenty ninth
- 4:24Speaker 4: pass offense, and twenty seventh with points per game at thirteen.
- 4:28Speaker 4: So obviously it's been one week, two different results. Lions
- 4:31Speaker 4: won their game, the Seahawks did not win their game,
- 4:32Speaker 4: didn't run a lot of plays in the second half,
- 4:34Speaker 4: So not gonna look good here. But this is kind
- 4:37Speaker 4: of like batting average in baseball right at the beginning
- 4:39Speaker 4: of the season, where you can go zero for six,
- 4:41Speaker 4: but then if you go four for four, all of
- 4:43Speaker 4: a sudden, you're batting four hundred. So I'm hoping to
- 4:45Speaker 4: see that from the Seahawks offensive numbers after this week.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I am.
- 4:49Speaker 5: When you look at the just the defense, right, you
- 4:51Speaker 5: look at total defense number thirty when it comes to
- 4:53Speaker 5: the Seahawks gave a four hundred and twenty six yards
- 4:56Speaker 5: that game, I'm not even gonna say per game.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna say that correct.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Last week, right, according to last week, I like this
- 5:03Speaker 5: number thirteenth. When it comes to the rush defense on
- 5:06Speaker 5: the gave up ninety two yards on forty carries. Le's
- 5:08Speaker 5: remind people that then passed defense thirty first, not good,
- 5:10Speaker 5: three under and thirty four. Matthew Stafford had the day.
- 5:12Speaker 5: We remember that, and then gave up thirty points. That
- 5:15Speaker 5: puts him at twenty six. We look at the defense
- 5:17Speaker 5: for the Detroit Lions, gave a three in the sixteen
- 5:20Speaker 5: yards is twenty first in the league. They were good
- 5:22Speaker 5: against the run as well, twelfth in the league. Gave
- 5:24Speaker 5: up ninety last week. They twenty twenty six yards is
- 5:27Speaker 5: twenty fourth and twenty points that is fourteenth.
- 5:30Speaker 3: They were only sacked one time.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Jared Goff was only sacked twenty three times last year,
- 5:34Speaker 5: only sacked one time in last game, so they're keeping
- 5:36Speaker 5: up that trend.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Gino was sacked two times.
- 5:39Speaker 5: When it comes to penalties, the Detroit Lions were a
- 5:41Speaker 5: bit cleaner than the Seahawks. Hawks later on, the game
- 5:43Speaker 5: kind of fell apart a little bit. They had seven penalties,
- 5:46Speaker 5: Detroit Lions had four. So look, you look at these numbers,
- 5:49Speaker 5: you take it for what it is. I don't think
- 5:51Speaker 5: we definitively know who each team is. We know what
- 5:54Speaker 5: they can be, we know what they're trying to be.
- 5:56Speaker 5: So look at these numbers and I say, all right,
- 5:58Speaker 5: you can't ignore them.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It's truth. But this is a long season. We're only
- 6:01Speaker 3: one game, man.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 4: You know, one thing that I like about the Seahawks
- 6:05Speaker 4: is no turnovers. So if we're looking at more positive
- 6:07Speaker 4: from week one, they didn't turn the ball over. You
- 6:09Speaker 4: mentioned penalties. They're going to clean that up, so definitely
- 6:12Speaker 4: love that. And on the other side those the Lions
- 6:14Speaker 4: also they only turned the ball over once and then
- 6:17Speaker 4: excuse me, they have one turnover and then they're turn
- 6:21Speaker 4: diffrenchs at zero. So it'll be interesting to see follow
- 6:23Speaker 4: that stat as things move on.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But it's one game.
- 6:25Speaker 4: As you said, hoping the Seahawks can drastically improve all
- 6:29Speaker 4: their numbers because we know the potential of this football team,
- 6:32Speaker 4: and that wasn't it last Sunday. But these two teams
- 6:35Speaker 4: have played recently, recently as last year, so let's know
- 6:38Speaker 4: the history, No.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Your history.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Seahawks leads the all time series eleven to five. They're
- 6:45Speaker 4: one to zero in the postseason. The Seahawks have also
- 6:47Speaker 4: won seven of their last eight. Last year, Man, that
- 6:50Speaker 4: was a shootout beating them. When I'm going back through
- 6:53Speaker 4: the box score, I'm like, dang, I knew it was
- 6:54Speaker 4: a shootout, but looking at some of these numbers, wild
- 6:57Speaker 4: They beat the lines forty eight to forty five, didn't
- 7:00Speaker 4: feature a ton of defense, with exception of Riek Woolan
- 7:02Speaker 4: getting a pick six off of Jared Goff. Both teams
- 7:05Speaker 4: combined for one thousand and seventy five yards of total offense.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Man over one thousand yards Man five hundred and fifty
- 7:13Speaker 4: five from the Seahawks five to twenty from the Lions.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Gino Smith had a day throwing for three hundred yards
- 7:18Speaker 4: and two touchdowns. Rashad Penny ran for one hundred and
- 7:21Speaker 4: fifty one yards on seventeen carries, including probably the game
- 7:24Speaker 4: ceiling touchdown forty one yards. Metcalf went off four one
- 7:28Speaker 4: hundred and forty nine yards on seven receptions, and then
- 7:31Speaker 4: on the other side, Jared Goff probably had one of
- 7:32Speaker 4: his guest game games as a pro, going twenty six
- 7:35Speaker 4: for thirty nine three hundred and seventy eight yards, four touchdowns,
- 7:38Speaker 4: one interception. Jamal Williams also ran for one hundred and
- 7:41Speaker 4: eight yards, and Man TJ. Hawkinson, before he got traded
- 7:44Speaker 4: to the Vikings, had eight receptions for one hundred and
- 7:47Speaker 4: seventy nine yards and two touchdowns. Bob, who would have
- 7:50Speaker 4: thought that that game was going to decide the playoffs
- 7:52Speaker 4: for those two teams I played.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Man, that game was entertaining if you didn't have a
- 7:58Speaker 5: rooting entrance, right because you look at the numbers that
- 8:02Speaker 5: are being put up.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Everyone loves good offense.
- 8:04Speaker 5: You got both of that, and that was I remember
- 8:07Speaker 5: that game because Treek Wooland undercut a pass across the
- 8:10Speaker 5: middle and took that thing to the house. That was
- 8:13Speaker 5: one of the times where I'm like, oh, on, we
- 8:15Speaker 5: might be on the sum here with this Trei Woolan kid,
- 8:18Speaker 5: But yeah, man, we all have offense.
- 8:19Speaker 3: We got a lot of offense there.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I hope that we see some of the same numbers,
- 8:24Speaker 5: but for the Seahawks this week, not for those danglines.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I would love to see forty eight again. I
- 8:29Speaker 4: would love to see no fours, no threes.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Keep me in the twenties. I'd like to see that.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Please both like that.
- 8:36Speaker 4: We'll see, we'll see. But let's check in on the
- 8:39Speaker 4: rest of the NFC West.
- 8:40Speaker 2: What's the word and.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The Seahawks or the NFC West champs again?
- 8:49Speaker 2: What's the word in the West?
- 8:52Speaker 3: On HOWK talk?
- 8:55Speaker 5: All right, man, we've got some action in the West
- 8:57Speaker 5: right now. The Rams sitting up top with forty nine ers.
- 9:00Speaker 5: They're both want to Oh, we know the Hawks loss
- 9:02Speaker 5: and the Arizona Cardinals loss as well, But let's go
- 9:06Speaker 5: to Pittsburgh. Man, those forty nine ers, and we learned
- 9:08Speaker 5: some week one. They're still good.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Alright. I know it's Week one.
- 9:11Speaker 5: I know the numbers are what they are, but if
- 9:13Speaker 5: you watch that game, you know that the Niners is
- 9:15Speaker 5: still good. They jumped out to a twenty to zero
- 9:18Speaker 5: lead and won at thirty to seven.
- 9:20Speaker 3: The main thing we want to see right is Brock Purty.
- 9:22Speaker 3: That guy.
- 9:23Speaker 5: We saw him for nine games last year. He was
- 9:25Speaker 5: in the NFC Championship game. He gets hurt, what is
- 9:28Speaker 5: he gonna do. He went nineteen of twenty nine for
- 9:31Speaker 5: twenty twenty yards and two touchdowns. And then Christian McCaffrey,
- 9:35Speaker 5: you know that he's gonna touch the rock, all right,
- 9:37Speaker 5: and he had one hundred and fifty two yards on
- 9:39Speaker 5: twenty two carrits in one touchdown.
- 9:41Speaker 3: And Brandon, a man.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Like Deebo gets a lot of love, and he should
- 9:45Speaker 5: get a lot of love. But Brandon Ayuk is the
- 9:47Speaker 5: best receiver on the scene. We're talking about routes, we're
- 9:50Speaker 5: talking about catching the football out the air.
- 9:52Speaker 3: He's the best receiver.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Deebo and Christian McCaffrey might be the most gifted when
- 9:57Speaker 5: it comes to just being a football player. But Brandon,
- 9:59Speaker 5: that you ball out man. He had one hundred and
- 10:01Speaker 5: twenty nine yards and two touchdowns. And then this defense,
- 10:04Speaker 5: the kid out of USC Drake Jackson, had himself a
- 10:08Speaker 5: year man. The Niners had five sacks, but three of
- 10:10Speaker 5: them came for this young man, Drake Jackson. They picked
- 10:12Speaker 5: off Kenny Pickett twice too, glove Can picked them off twice.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Still had two hundred and thirty nine yards of offense.
- 10:19Speaker 5: There were five for fifteen on third downs we learned.
- 10:23Speaker 5: I mean, we just got reassured that the Niners are
- 10:26Speaker 5: going to be good this year and all as well.
- 10:29Speaker 5: So that was a I expected this game to end
- 10:31Speaker 5: up like that, and I expected some of these numbers.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Brandon Aiyuk a surprise, but not really a surprise.
- 10:36Speaker 5: But Drake Jackson, man, I knew when he got drafted
- 10:39Speaker 5: he could do something, look good all all the way around.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Now, well, the scary part is Drake Jackson, right, So
- 10:46Speaker 4: if you add him to already potent defense in the
- 10:48Speaker 4: Boss of the World and Fred Warner running around.
- 10:51Speaker 2: And it they're scary. I mean, it is.
- 10:53Speaker 4: What is We know their roster has been one of
- 10:54Speaker 4: the best in the league, and it has been for
- 10:56Speaker 4: a little while now, but that they're adding a couple
- 10:58Speaker 4: other tools and rock Perty seem to kind of answer
- 11:01Speaker 4: the bell.
- 11:02Speaker 2: We'll see again. I'm still gonna wait.
- 11:04Speaker 4: As the Great Dennis scream and say, before I crown anybody,
- 11:08Speaker 4: I'm just saying, I don't know.
- 11:10Speaker 5: He looked, he looked good any games. You gotta see,
- 11:12Speaker 5: he's nine in, he's ten in. Now, he's ten in.
- 11:15Speaker 5: How many more do you need to believe?
- 11:17Speaker 4: Give me to October Dog, Give me to October bump
- 11:20Speaker 4: and then maybe and then maybe I'll be bought in.
- 11:22Speaker 4: But he's we'll see. We didn't learn much there that
- 11:24Speaker 4: the Niners are still good. Elsewhere in the division, things
- 11:27Speaker 4: not goes well for the Cardinals and new head coach
- 11:30Speaker 4: Jonathan Gannon. This was just kind of a start of
- 11:33Speaker 4: a new era for both organizations. Cardinals obviously have a
- 11:35Speaker 4: new coach with Gannon and Commanders with a completely new
- 11:37Speaker 4: ownership group. And the Cardinals obviously they're out. Cal Murray's
- 11:42Speaker 4: on the pup list re covering from the ACLS hair
- 11:44Speaker 4: who knows when he'll be back. And the Commanders they
- 11:46Speaker 4: decided going this year with Sam Howe at quarterback after
- 11:50Speaker 4: thinks didn't work out with Carson Wentz last year. And
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know, honestly, I'll give the Cardinals credit because this
- 11:56Speaker 4: game could have been a lot worse. I don't know
- 11:58Speaker 4: how good the Cardinals are gonna be affect. They actually
- 12:00Speaker 4: did compete and stayed in the game. After lying a
- 12:02Speaker 4: touchdown on the first game first second drive of the game,
- 12:05Speaker 4: the Cardinals responded with thirteen straight points, went in a
- 12:08Speaker 4: halftime with a thirteen to ten lead. Unfortunately, it was
- 12:11Speaker 4: all Commanders in the fourth quarter as they scored the
- 12:13Speaker 4: game's remaining ten points. Not a lot of offense in that game.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Joshua Dobbs got to start for the Cardinals. He went
- 12:20Speaker 4: twenty one of thirty four, one hundred and thirty two yards,
- 12:23Speaker 4: no touchdowns, and fumbled twice. So definitely not the start
- 12:26Speaker 4: you're looking for a quarterback. James Connor sixty two yards
- 12:30Speaker 4: and fourteen carries. I'm not really sure how the season's
- 12:32Speaker 4: gonna play out, especially with that Kyler Murray. I'm not
- 12:35Speaker 4: sure if they're gonna be able to score a lot
- 12:37Speaker 4: of points. But we'll see, man, maybe we'll get some explosives.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I got a.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Theory for you, got a theory?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Huh?
- 12:44Speaker 5: Kyler Murray to the Jets, whoa Arizona?
- 12:49Speaker 3: Who not gonna be good this year?
- 12:52Speaker 5: You can use their first round pick because they're gonna
- 12:55Speaker 5: be top five.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Send him to the Jets. Arizona starts all over once again.
- 13:00Speaker 3: That's just a theory mine.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Holy okay, bump, okay, I got you with the hot take.
- 13:06Speaker 4: We will revisit this tape if Kyler Murray goes on
- 13:08Speaker 4: to the Jets. Interesting enough, but man, that I'm all
- 13:12Speaker 4: messed up. I don't even know what I'm at in
- 13:13Speaker 4: the rundown with that, like wow, okay, okay, bump saving
- 13:17Speaker 4: us with the hot takes. But let's put the script
- 13:19Speaker 4: back to the Detroit Lions and man up.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Man up on Hawk Talk.
- 13:32Speaker 4: We'll start at the quarterback position like we always do,
- 13:34Speaker 4: Jared Goff going to go to Seahawks defense. And Goff
- 13:39Speaker 4: is entering his thirty year alliance and the first time,
- 13:41Speaker 4: I think was some real expectations because he's coming off
- 13:45Speaker 4: one of the best seasons of his eight year career,
- 13:46Speaker 4: and I feel like, honestly, for the first time, people
- 13:48Speaker 4: are kind of looking at Jared Goff as Jared Goff
- 13:50Speaker 4: the quarterback, not Jared Goff who executed Sean mcvay's offense
- 13:54Speaker 4: with the Rams. I feel like you never really got
- 13:56Speaker 4: any credit. I might have been a culprit of that,
- 13:58Speaker 4: just because Sean McVay so good a he does offensively,
- 14:01Speaker 4: But Jared Goff is playing well, man. I mean, last year,
- 14:03Speaker 4: the line's offensive explosive. They are fourth in the NFL
- 14:06Speaker 4: in total yards, eighth best passing offense, fifth in points
- 14:10Speaker 4: per game. Last year he threw for over four thousand
- 14:13Speaker 4: yards twenty nine touchdowns and just seven interceptions, which is
- 14:17Speaker 4: a big for him because he's turned the ball over
- 14:18Speaker 4: quite a bit in his career, and seven matched his
- 14:21Speaker 4: career low. He'd done that two other times. And he
- 14:23Speaker 4: got back to the Pro Bowl for the first time
- 14:25Speaker 4: since twenty eighteen. In the game against the Chiefs, he
- 14:27Speaker 4: went twenty two to thirty five or two hundred and
- 14:29Speaker 4: fifty three yards in a touchdown, And like I said,
- 14:32Speaker 4: for the first time career, I think the man is
- 14:34Speaker 4: getting some respect and it's gonna be tough because they're
- 14:37Speaker 4: very talented. We're gonna get into some more matchup and
- 14:39Speaker 4: some weapons he has offensively, but the Seahawks need to
- 14:42Speaker 4: show up a lot of things. In the past game,
- 14:44Speaker 4: they allowed three hundred and thirty four passing yards four
- 14:47Speaker 4: hundred and twenty six yards of total offense to the Rams,
- 14:50Speaker 4: so they got their work cutout for him, and the
- 14:52Speaker 4: lines are gonna make it tough for him. So I'm
- 14:53Speaker 4: just hoping maybe we'll learn a little bit more about
- 14:56Speaker 4: Jared Goff, if he kind of deserves the praise he's
- 14:58Speaker 4: been getting, and if he's gonna really show who he
- 15:00Speaker 4: is as a quarterback.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Here's the thing about Jared goff Man that kind of
- 15:03Speaker 5: gets me because you gotta respect what he did last
- 15:07Speaker 5: year and if he's able to duplicate them. I look
- 15:09Speaker 5: at him as a guy who can run an offense.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Is he a guy who can win you a Super Bowl?
- 15:14Speaker 5: Everyone needs the Kirk Cousins in the league, and I'm like,
- 15:16Speaker 5: it's Jared goff a Kirk Cousins. Like you respect Kirk Cousins.
- 15:20Speaker 5: You know he can ball, but Kenny win the big game.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I hope eventually he does that, but I hope he
- 15:25Speaker 5: doesn't do it before the seahows correct everything they got gone.
- 15:27Speaker 3: You get it and get it done. But respect to
- 15:29Speaker 3: Jared golf Man.
- 15:30Speaker 5: I love seeing dudes who were doubted come out and
- 15:33Speaker 5: prove some of these guys wrong. But I need an
- 15:35Speaker 5: off day from you this week, mister golf All right,
- 15:39Speaker 5: let's talk about our quarterback Gino Smith against this Lion's
- 15:43Speaker 5: defense and one way we wanted from Geno Smith to
- 15:45Speaker 5: start right, no doubt about it. Last week, it was
- 15:48Speaker 5: sixteen to twenty six at sixty one percent for one
- 15:51Speaker 5: hundred and twelve yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions, had a
- 15:54Speaker 5: QB rerating of eighty four.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Now let's put some context with this.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Last season, Gino's lowest passing game was one hundred and
- 16:01Speaker 5: eight three yards. He only had two games whereas completion
- 16:04Speaker 5: percentage was less than sixty two yards, and he only
- 16:07Speaker 5: had four games with a QB rating under eighty five.
- 16:10Speaker 5: So safe to say we're not gonna see many performances.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I don't anticipate see many performances from Gino. Like we
- 16:15Speaker 5: saw last week, the offense only ran forty six plays
- 16:19Speaker 5: against the Rams. Last year they averaged sixty one plays
- 16:22Speaker 5: a game. They only had three games under fifty plays,
- 16:24Speaker 5: so obviously things is worn't clicking in that second half,
- 16:26Speaker 5: but they run with fourteen plays. Yeah, overall, things is
- 16:29Speaker 5: worth clicking. So we need a bounce back from Gino.
- 16:32Speaker 5: And there's nothing that he's shown me that's gonna that
- 16:36Speaker 5: makes me believe that he can't bounce back and get
- 16:38Speaker 5: it them. It's all all about adjustments. He's gonna adjust,
- 16:41Speaker 5: the office is going to adjust. They will be fined.
- 16:43Speaker 5: The Lions held Pat Mahomes to just twenty points, so
- 16:46Speaker 5: he's gonna have his work cutout for him.
- 16:48Speaker 3: But I think he can do it, no.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Question about it.
- 16:50Speaker 4: I mean the numbers you said there, the fact that
- 16:51Speaker 4: he only had two games where his completion percentage was
- 16:53Speaker 4: under sixty two percent all of last season. That kind
- 16:56Speaker 4: of shows he has a body of work that he's
- 16:57Speaker 4: shown he can do, and they're gonna bounce back. I
- 16:59Speaker 4: think the whole offense was kind of out of things
- 17:00Speaker 4: last week, and I have faith that they're definitely gonna
- 17:02Speaker 4: bounce back this weekend. Now the Lions flipping into their side.
- 17:07Speaker 4: In the running game, we're looking at David Montgomery and
- 17:09Speaker 4: Jamier Gibbs from Alabama against the Seahawks front seven. The
- 17:14Speaker 4: Lions last year kind of had a two headed monster
- 17:16Speaker 4: with DeAndre Swift and Jamal Williams both in different spots
- 17:20Speaker 4: Philly and New Orleans, respectively. This year, David Montgomery, they
- 17:23Speaker 4: got him from the Bears. He was the third round
- 17:25Speaker 4: draft pick in twenty nineteen. After spending four years in Chicago.
- 17:29Speaker 4: He rushed for over three thousand yards in his career,
- 17:32Speaker 4: does have one one thousand yard season, and Montgomery got
- 17:35Speaker 4: the bulk of the carries last week against the Chiefs,
- 17:37Speaker 4: rushing for six seventy four yards on twenty one carries
- 17:39Speaker 4: in a touchdown. The other running back obviously, like I mentioned,
- 17:42Speaker 4: gets to burn Is Gibbs out of Alabama twelve pick overall,
- 17:46Speaker 4: he had seven carries for forty two yards and along
- 17:48Speaker 4: of eighteen. Listening to some stuff coming out of Detroit
- 17:51Speaker 4: this week, looks like they're gonna try to get him
- 17:52Speaker 4: a little bit more involved in the game. So they're
- 17:54Speaker 4: gonna keep running the ball, you know. I think the
- 17:56Speaker 4: Seahawks did a great job stopping the run last week,
- 18:00Speaker 4: but other teams are gonna test them, right, They're gonna
- 18:02Speaker 4: make you prove that weekend and week out that this
- 18:04Speaker 4: is a real change and not a fluke.
- 18:07Speaker 2: But the throw the Seahawks in love. Man.
- 18:10Speaker 4: They gave up ninety two yards on forty carries as
- 18:12Speaker 4: two point three yards to carry against the Rams. But
- 18:15Speaker 4: if you really look at those runs, Seahawks held the
- 18:17Speaker 4: Rams for three yards or less on twenty five of
- 18:19Speaker 4: those forty carries, and then fifteen of those carries went
- 18:23Speaker 4: for more than three yards, so that's not a lot.
- 18:25Speaker 4: And then the Rams had one carry for more than
- 18:27Speaker 4: ten yards, so just one explosive and fifteen of those
- 18:31Speaker 4: run plays were for no gain or negative yards, So
- 18:33Speaker 4: that shows the Seahawks were getting stuff done.
- 18:35Speaker 2: On early downs.
- 18:36Speaker 4: They weren't perfect, but I think they've taken that step.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Now it's their chance to prove it on Sunday and
- 18:41Speaker 4: making sure that Montgomery and GiB Zonk go running all
- 18:44Speaker 4: over the place.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Yeah, if you're really digging into the numbers, you can say, well,
- 18:48Speaker 5: they picked up so many first downs with runs. It
- 18:51Speaker 5: was like third and one, third and two. Now you're
- 18:53Speaker 5: an NFL team, you should be able to pick up
- 18:55Speaker 5: one or two yards on any given play.
- 18:57Speaker 3: So for all the haters digging deeper than numbers, good
- 18:59Speaker 3: job been you homework.
- 19:00Speaker 5: But let's let's talk some football and realize that any
- 19:04Speaker 5: NFL team should be able to pickup the yard too.
- 19:06Speaker 5: All right, let's talk about the Detroit Lions and their receivers.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Man A Monroe s Brown is one of my favorite
- 19:11Speaker 5: receivers in the league. And Josh Reynolds has been in
- 19:14Speaker 5: league seven years or quiet seven. It seems like he's
- 19:17Speaker 5: only been in a few years. But a Monral Saint
- 19:19Speaker 5: Brown is an underrated receiver, kind of like Tyler Locket, right,
- 19:22Speaker 5: they got that in common. But he was balled out
- 19:25Speaker 5: last year. One hundred and six receptions, eleven hundred yards,
- 19:27Speaker 5: six touchdowns. A kid out of the USC is getting done.
- 19:30Speaker 5: He wasn't helping for the game against the Seahawks last season,
- 19:33Speaker 5: so we'll see what he will do this year. But
- 19:35Speaker 5: this is a guy who's not extremely fast, but fast enough.
- 19:40Speaker 5: But he's a true route running and a receiver understand
- 19:42Speaker 5: spacing miss Crafty at the top of his routes. We're
- 19:45Speaker 5: gonna have our hands full with him. One of the
- 19:46Speaker 5: best in the league. Like I mentioned, underrated other guys.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Josh Reynolds, like I said, seven years in the league,
- 19:52Speaker 5: doesn't really feel like that.
- 19:53Speaker 3: He has stops in LA and Tennessee.
- 19:54Speaker 5: In fourteen games with Detroit last year, he had thirty
- 19:56Speaker 5: eight receptions for four seventy nine and three touchdowns. Last
- 19:59Speaker 5: week he had four receptions for eighty yards in one touchdown.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Now giving up three hundred and thirty four yards last week,
- 20:07Speaker 5: this secondary is going to be on high alert.
- 20:10Speaker 3: This is a good duo.
- 20:11Speaker 5: It's better than Tootuatwill and Puka Nakua who just carved
- 20:15Speaker 5: us up. So we got to watch the secondary and
- 20:19Speaker 5: it sounds like we might get to see the number
- 20:21Speaker 5: five pig, Devin Witherspoon. I'm not counting on this dude
- 20:25Speaker 5: just to fix the secondary, but I just want to
- 20:28Speaker 5: see what he can do because we haven't seen much
- 20:30Speaker 5: of him so far.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it was great to see him back out of
- 20:32Speaker 4: practice on Wednesday, so I'm looking forward to it if
- 20:35Speaker 4: he's out there, And I think you're right, we should
- 20:37Speaker 4: temper our expectations a little bit. We shouldn't be expecting
- 20:39Speaker 4: him to have six interceptions and all of a sudden,
- 20:41Speaker 4: the Seahawks are only on one hundred yards. But we
- 20:44Speaker 4: know how talented he can be. So I'm definitely intriguing
- 20:46Speaker 4: and I think he's going to help this secondary. Definitely
- 20:49Speaker 4: footprint back to the line secondary and another match around
- 20:52Speaker 4: to look at is dk Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. I
- 20:55Speaker 4: don't gotta say much. I'd be here all day if
- 20:56Speaker 4: I read off their credentials and what they've done in
- 20:58Speaker 4: this league. So I know, no, he's got time for that.
- 21:01Speaker 4: But last week they only combined for five receptions fifty
- 21:04Speaker 4: seven yards in one touchdown on nine targets. Those guys,
- 21:07Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, you run fourteen plays in the second half,
- 21:09Speaker 4: it's hard to get your receivers involved. I expect them
- 21:12Speaker 4: to play a much bigger role than we need them to.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Quite frankly, I think they're they're too good. I think
- 21:16Speaker 4: Shane Waldern's gonna get back in his bag and find
- 21:18Speaker 4: ways to get these guys the ball, because when they go,
- 21:21Speaker 4: our offense goes.
- 21:22Speaker 2: It's kind of hard.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Definitely last year when we struggled, it's when they had,
- 21:26Speaker 4: you know, box scores that looked like that. So I'm
- 21:28Speaker 4: looking for those guys that big game they got too.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I mean he had DK with a couple of big receptions.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Even Tyler Lockett had a big reception on third down
- 21:36Speaker 4: to start the game. On that first drive, I DK
- 21:38Speaker 4: with a touchdown and another reception, But there was just
- 21:41Speaker 4: no consistency and it seemed like to get this pass
- 21:44Speaker 4: game going, you know, you got to get these two involved.
- 21:46Speaker 4: So I'm with you, Gino, DK Lockett, let's get it going.
- 21:50Speaker 4: And uh, let's talk about and Aiden Hutchins. Sorry almost
- 21:54Speaker 4: called him Anthony Hutchinson for some reason.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Aid.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Versus the Seahawks offensive line.
- 22:02Speaker 5: This young man was a second overall pick in the
- 22:04Speaker 5: twenty twenty two draft out of Michigan. He plays with
- 22:08Speaker 5: a motor in an intensity that ideally you want from
- 22:12Speaker 5: a guy that's rushing off the edge right zero plays off,
- 22:16Speaker 5: He's going, he's going, he's going, he doesn't stop. I
- 22:18Speaker 5: appreciate it about him last year as a rookie at
- 22:21Speaker 5: fifty two tackles, nine tackles for the lost, fifteen quarterback hits,
- 22:24Speaker 5: nine and a half sacks in three interceptions. In the
- 22:27Speaker 5: first game against the Chiefs, he was super active. Four
- 22:30Speaker 5: tackles in three quarterback hits. So we're looking at this
- 22:35Speaker 5: offensive line and what has happened so far. Right, we
- 22:37Speaker 5: got Abe Lucas, who's gonna be out. Got Charles Cross
- 22:39Speaker 5: who what bang his toe or something like that, turf toe,
- 22:43Speaker 5: turf toe. So there's gonna be some movement on this line,
- 22:46Speaker 5: and I wonder how it's going to affect the player
- 22:48Speaker 5: Aden Hutchinson, Like he's he gonna shine because of this,
- 22:51Speaker 5: or will the Hawks come together and try to contain him,
- 22:53Speaker 5: Because a player like him, it's hard to say you're
- 22:56Speaker 5: just gonna lock him down and shut him out.
- 22:57Speaker 3: He's gonna make plays.
- 22:59Speaker 5: But it's the time of the plays, in the consistency
- 23:02Speaker 5: of the plays. So with this new group, man, I'm
- 23:04Speaker 5: excited for the challenge, and I hope they are too.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, the second round picks or second overall
- 23:10Speaker 4: picks don't grow on trees. And you talk about that
- 23:12Speaker 4: motor and that that's something that scares you as an
- 23:15Speaker 4: offensive lineman. You can't take a playoff with this guy
- 23:17Speaker 4: because he can make that play. But you know, given
- 23:20Speaker 4: the way that the Seahawks are hurting up up front,
- 23:24Speaker 4: we're gonna run that rock. I think I think we're
- 23:25Speaker 4: gonna help them usualize eight hunches and hopefully by Ken
- 23:28Speaker 4: Walker running that rock, which brings me to ways, the
- 23:31Speaker 4: Seahawks gonna get this done.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Path to victory.
- 23:35Speaker 5: At the forty five, waits for the snap, Michael Vickton
- 23:38Speaker 5: puts it down.
- 23:39Speaker 3: That kick is away and that kick is gone.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Good say off.
- 23:43Speaker 4: When it's gone.
- 23:45Speaker 1: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Shake it off, man, Yeah, shake off. Last week. It's
- 23:50Speaker 4: a new week. The you know the pages turn on
- 23:53Speaker 4: Wednesdays in this building. After tell the truth Monday, it
- 23:55Speaker 4: is over. Whatever happened against the Rams is done. And
- 23:58Speaker 4: like I said, it shouldn't be problem for Pete King,
- 24:00Speaker 4: Pete Carroll coach team. The Seahawks have the second best
- 24:02Speaker 4: winning percentage in the NFL since twenty twelve, falling and
- 24:05Speaker 4: in season loss of the record of forty two and nineteen,
- 24:08Speaker 4: so they usually bounce back. Well, that's definitely ingrained into
- 24:11Speaker 4: players in this program, So I don't think it's gonna
- 24:14Speaker 4: be an issue. I think they're gonna come out with
- 24:16Speaker 4: more intensity and then they're gonna come out with a
- 24:17Speaker 4: sense of urgency, and I look for them to just
- 24:20Speaker 4: look a lot better in all facets of the game.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Here's my question.
- 24:24Speaker 5: When I go to vMac on Thursdays and the teams
- 24:27Speaker 5: and they're meeting, they're getting hyped there playing music. You say,
- 24:30Speaker 5: shake it off? Are they gonna play Taylor Swift shake
- 24:32Speaker 5: it Off? Are they gonna play Maria Carries shake it Off?
- 24:35Speaker 5: That's my question. What song are they gonna play to
- 24:40Speaker 5: get these guys going in the morning because they be
- 24:42Speaker 5: hyped up?
- 24:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah?
- 24:44Speaker 5: And Pete Carroll, I'm just I'm interested in the message,
- 24:48Speaker 5: and I think you know that has to be here, right,
- 24:51Speaker 5: get over that that thing's over and is getting back
- 24:54Speaker 5: to being the Seahawks that we saw last year in
- 24:57Speaker 5: certain places right better against the run. You got Gino
- 25:00Speaker 5: Ni Gino to be Gino, and I think you're right.
- 25:02Speaker 5: You got to be able to run that rock. We
- 25:04Speaker 5: saw a little bit of what they can do run
- 25:05Speaker 5: the football with Knin in the backfield.
- 25:07Speaker 3: That sharpening in the backfield.
- 25:08Speaker 5: DJ Dallas is getting some That's the thing I was
- 25:10Speaker 5: frustrating last week because you saw the potential what they're
- 25:12Speaker 5: trying to do and then get DK Tyler and Jayson involved.
- 25:17Speaker 5: I think they're still they still have the potential to
- 25:19Speaker 5: be one of the best trios in the league.
- 25:21Speaker 4: We got to see them do that, oh A, no
- 25:23Speaker 4: question about it. And another thing is third downs. Gotta
- 25:26Speaker 4: be better on third downs. Eleven for seventeen defensively is
- 25:28Speaker 4: not good enough and then true for an offensively is
- 25:30Speaker 4: not good enough. And you know saying on defense, protecting
- 25:33Speaker 4: the middle of the field, finding a way to you know,
- 25:36Speaker 4: make those adjustments and then when someone starts to hurt
- 25:39Speaker 4: us somewhere to figure out a way from the guys
- 25:41Speaker 4: on the field that you know, stop that from happening.
- 25:43Speaker 4: And I think they can. I think we're gonna see
- 25:45Speaker 4: much better. You know, I want efforts up the right word,
- 25:48Speaker 4: but a much better performance from the defensive line. Because
- 25:51Speaker 4: you know, it's a first week, they're all out there,
- 25:53Speaker 4: they're all new guys playing different, you know, different positions
- 25:55Speaker 4: or different spots, and they're all out there at once
- 25:57Speaker 4: making line calls and different stuff like that. So I
- 26:00Speaker 4: think we'll give them some time to adjust and be
- 26:02Speaker 4: with each other. With Bobby Back and Jordan Brooks and
- 26:04Speaker 4: Devin Bush and all different matchups and people coming in
- 26:07Speaker 4: personnel groupings, I think they'll simplify it. I think they'll
- 26:10Speaker 4: get after Jared Goff and their Seahawks are definitely gonna
- 26:12Speaker 4: need to do that because teams that are owing too
- 26:15Speaker 4: is not a great start in the league and we
- 26:16Speaker 4: don't want that. And I think these guys can get
- 26:18Speaker 4: that done. Man, well, Bump, We're hopeful. I hope next
- 26:22Speaker 4: time me and you were chatting, it's a Seahawks victory
- 26:25Speaker 4: on a victory on Monday.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Because we need it. We need it, we need it.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Reminder, guys, you can catch us anywhere Seahawks dot Com,
- 26:31Speaker 4: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, Series XM and more. And
