- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey og crew today.
- 0:05Speaker 2: So we have a lot of shows on the FT
- 0:06Speaker 2: Network right number thirty. It's hard to keep up with
- 0:10Speaker 2: all of them, but I do my best. And one
- 0:13Speaker 2: of my missions is I want to listen to every
- 0:15Speaker 2: single show on the FT Network post trade deadline, like
- 0:18Speaker 2: they're one show that recaps the trade deadline. First of all,
- 0:21Speaker 2: it's great content, it helps, but I also just want
- 0:24Speaker 2: to see where everyone is at from a show perspective
- 0:26Speaker 2: in terms of what they think their teams did and
- 0:29Speaker 2: didn't do. So I'm hitting like two to three per night.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Last night, one of the episodes I caught was our
- 0:35Speaker 2: buddy Derek from Pinstripe Territory. Yeah, he absolutely hated their deadline.
- 0:41Speaker 2: He roasted and toasted them to pieces. And I'm telling
- 0:44Speaker 2: you it's some of the most entertaining content. The way
- 0:47Speaker 2: that he was dropping lines like it was second nature.
- 0:50Speaker 2: For example, I was writing one or two of them down.
- 0:53Speaker 2: He's like John Carlo Stanton's only visible to that kid.
- 0:56Speaker 2: In the sixth sense, Judge hasn't picked up a bet
- 0:58Speaker 2: since bleeping Memorial Day. We end up getting this like
- 1:01Speaker 2: he was rolling it out like it was nothing though,
- 1:03Speaker 2: Like it wasn't like oh, I'm very prepared.
- 1:05Speaker 1: This is like he was rolling out movie references like
- 1:08Speaker 1: it was a sixth sense.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It was good entertainment, comedy and frustration from him. I'm
- 1:16Speaker 2: not as frustrated as he is. I don't think they
- 1:19Speaker 2: had Like the way he was talking was like DF
- 1:23Speaker 2: territory and I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa. They picked up offense.
- 1:27Speaker 2: They have guys that are going to go to the bullpen.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That'll make that stronger. The whole argument can be we
- 1:31Speaker 2: didn't get a catcher, fine.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, wells, but that's it.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Like to me, many teams have a lot more to
- 1:39Speaker 2: complain about then we think our catcher can't hit, so
- 1:42Speaker 2: he's only a defensive catcher.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Okay, here here, well yeah whatever, But here's the thing.
- 1:48Speaker 3: They pinch it for him every chance they get. They
- 1:49Speaker 3: pick it for him right away. Last night brought in
- 1:51Speaker 3: the other guy because they always have ben Rice that
- 1:54Speaker 3: can catch in an emergency. Right, so they are carrying
- 1:56Speaker 3: three catchers without carrying three catchers, yep. The thing it
- 2:00Speaker 3: got me was if you watch Lombard's debut last night,
- 2:04Speaker 3: as great as it was, and I don't know if
- 2:06Speaker 3: crowds are it's almost the worst thing that could have
- 2:08Speaker 3: happened to the kid because he made a really good
- 2:10Speaker 3: play at short in the back end, they turned to
- 2:12Speaker 3: he hit the home run. Right, they won two nothing?
- 2:16Speaker 3: Why is that bad? Because now every game they're gonna
- 2:18Speaker 3: expect him to hit a home run, make the greatest
- 2:20Speaker 3: PLAYOFFLL Like, It's great for the kid and I love it,
- 2:23Speaker 3: but for Yankee, right, am I wrong? Crowds like, now
- 2:26Speaker 3: every Yankee fan every day is gonna be like George
- 2:28Speaker 3: Bumbard's gonna hit one hundred and eighty home runs. He's
- 2:30Speaker 3: never gonna make an error. So as awesome as it was,
- 2:34Speaker 3: there's also a chance.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Are you saying good debuts are bad?
- 2:40Speaker 3: Depends on where you are.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Okay?
- 2:41Speaker 3: And by the way, Mark says Boons that they had
- 2:43Speaker 3: no plans use Rice behind the plate. I'm only saying
- 2:45Speaker 3: in an emergency, In an emergency, if he get caught somehow,
- 2:48Speaker 3: he could go back there for a couple innings. I'm
- 2:50Speaker 3: not saying that they're gonna catch him and start right,
- 2:53Speaker 3: but they could if they use him a Let's say
- 2:55Speaker 3: they pinched it for Wells and then Sanchez they need
- 2:57Speaker 3: to pinch run for it. They can slide Rice into
- 3:00Speaker 3: a catcher for any or two. Well, he's good enough
- 3:03Speaker 3: for that.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes, the plan is at some point in the game
- 3:06Speaker 2: they have a big ab they just throw the pinch
- 3:08Speaker 2: hitter in and then Alex Sanchez is now the catcher
- 3:12Speaker 2: in case he gets hurt.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Do you have an emergen exactly? Who can handle it?
- 3:15Speaker 5: In Ben Rice and I disagree with a except that
- 3:19Speaker 5: George Lombard, Yeah, congratulations, but he also got that monkey
- 3:24Speaker 5: off is back in the sense of like you get
- 3:27Speaker 5: called up, you don't get that home run. But there's plenty.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I've read so many different different guys. Marcus Tims, Tyler, Austin,
- 3:35Speaker 5: Aaron Judge all hit home runs in their debuts for
- 3:38Speaker 5: the Yankees. It's great, but I don't think the expectation
- 3:42Speaker 5: is any higher because this is the same Yankee fan
- 3:45Speaker 5: base that boot Aaron Judge after he won the MVP
- 3:48Speaker 5: in the regular season. So the expectations always going to
- 3:52Speaker 5: be high, especially when you play a premium position.
- 3:57Speaker 3: True, and by the way, it was awesome that his
- 3:59Speaker 3: dad was there. Now, what was really cool is his
- 4:01Speaker 3: brother hit a home run in his pro debut, and
- 4:04Speaker 3: then he hit a home run in his big league
- 4:06Speaker 3: debut and the parents had to choose, and the kid
- 4:08Speaker 3: in a ball said no, parents, go to the big
- 4:10Speaker 3: league debut and listen.
- 4:12Speaker 6: A J.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Hinch let him out of it, which was really cool
- 4:14Speaker 3: because he's a coach. He's a huge the bench coach
- 4:16Speaker 3: for the Tigers. But the thing is, the Tigers have
- 4:18Speaker 3: said they're out of it. So A. J. Hinch is like,
- 4:20Speaker 3: I don't need no stinking coaches. You can go to
- 4:22Speaker 3: and fight in New York.
- 4:23Speaker 1: From Seattle, what are they a game and a half back?
- 4:26Speaker 1: So like that, they rocked him.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Eate nothing with Troy Meltain's mountains really freaking.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Scoobol Mice Melton and the way they're playing right nowut.
- 4:36Speaker 2: There one and a half games now too late. Orioles
- 4:40Speaker 2: and Tigers both sold one and a half games back.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Mariners bought their two games back, Blue Jays sold their
- 4:45Speaker 2: four games back. Rangers wanted to sell their one game
- 4:49Speaker 2: soldot true. True, that's fair, that's fair. I stand corrected.
- 4:55Speaker 2: They sold inbought Blue Jays might be better. They should
- 4:57Speaker 2: be better now. They added to start, there's one who
- 5:00Speaker 2: can be at the front of a rotation.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Soriano. Soriano first June and half of May. He was
- 5:08Speaker 5: a SI Young candidate.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And let's get to a Cy Young winner. Two timer.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Charge out.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Derek Scougle is a Dodger, makes his first start six innings,
- 5:22Speaker 2: two earned runs, four hits to walk, six strikeouts. Cubs
- 5:25Speaker 2: handed the Dodgers their fifth straight loss. Mike g who's
- 5:29Speaker 2: a big Cubs fan, always in the chat, it's like,
- 5:32Speaker 2: better talk about PCA within this conversation.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I got you.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Cubs are bawling, Dodgers are not during one week of
- 5:39Speaker 2: their lives. But Schooble felt nervous as you would expect
- 5:43Speaker 2: he should.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It's his first time on their team and he's pitching
- 5:46Speaker 3: in a place he's never pitched. And PCA right now
- 5:48Speaker 3: I've said it and I've as the n L MVP
- 5:51Speaker 3: for me just because the showy out is the pitching.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I mean his numbers, what he brings defensively as stolen bases,
- 5:57Speaker 3: or I mean his energy right now is crazy. I
- 6:00Speaker 3: love watching that dude play though. He's so fun and
- 6:02Speaker 3: plus I love him. I love watching this whole skit
- 6:04Speaker 3: where he said Babe Ruth didn't exist. It had them
- 6:06Speaker 3: the crazy clothesy whears. He's just he's just fun to watch.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sorry as a baseball fan, isn't this
- 6:12Speaker 3: what we want? Personality? Dudes at say crazy stuff sometimes
- 6:16Speaker 3: and they play awesome yep. I mean he's he's fun.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He's a heel when he needs to be.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And for all the nerds out there who just vote
- 6:23Speaker 2: based on war and you know who you are, seven
- 6:26Speaker 2: point five fan grabs war for PCA, which is better
- 6:29Speaker 2: than show. Hey o, tiny's combined pitching and hitting war
- 6:33Speaker 2: in that same.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Category because his defense is so good, so good.
- 6:37Speaker 3: He does so many things everything, everything. The biggest thing
- 6:40Speaker 3: for me, I know we're talking about aurocrats, but his
- 6:43Speaker 3: plate discipline, the way it's changed overnight, like they when
- 6:47Speaker 3: we were talking on Saturday, all he said, all Craig
- 6:49Speaker 3: Council said, Craig Counsel. You know, Craig, he doesn't give
- 6:52Speaker 3: you a lot to go off of. He'll give you
- 6:54Speaker 3: kind of like little little nibbles of little crumbs of
- 6:58Speaker 3: stuff and you kind of have to take from it.
- 7:00Speaker 3: But the one thing when someone asked him about PCA,
- 7:03Speaker 3: it might have been me. I said, hey, what happened
- 7:04Speaker 3: after that? You know? The lady and him got into
- 7:06Speaker 3: and at the White Sox Stadium. He's completely June first,
- 7:10Speaker 3: it's been like the best player in baseball. It's not
- 7:12Speaker 3: even close. And he said, uh, he moved closer to
- 7:16Speaker 3: the plate. Ye, I'm like that's it. He's like, yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 3: I move close to the plate and sets up the
- 7:19Speaker 3: strike zone better for him. And he's like, oh yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Ann Bragman talks to him all the time about swinging
- 7:24Speaker 3: less because in the game I did on Saturday, there
- 7:26Speaker 3: were some pitches he normally would have gangster hacked out,
- 7:28Speaker 3: and he took them and earned walks and earned better
- 7:31Speaker 3: pitches to get you know, another a bat and this
- 7:33Speaker 3: and that. So what he's done offensively has been one
- 7:37Speaker 3: of the craziest things in season I've ever seen.
- 7:40Speaker 5: He was already talented, everybody knew that. That's why he
- 7:43Speaker 5: was in the MVP discussion last year. Then he kind
- 7:45Speaker 5: of fell off because he started swinging and missing, started
- 7:49Speaker 5: chasing out the zone. To be able to make that
- 7:51Speaker 5: adjustment in like within a season, within half a season
- 7:56Speaker 5: essentially since the end of last season until now, it
- 7:59Speaker 5: is incredible. And you know what that one, it was
- 8:03Speaker 5: one of the It wasn't a go ahead RBI, but
- 8:05Speaker 5: it was one of the you know, push the legal
- 8:07Speaker 5: a little far of three, one, four one. That base
- 8:10Speaker 5: hit like that was quintessential PCA And so it means
- 8:16Speaker 5: that he's still swinging, he's just not chasing as much
- 8:19Speaker 5: as an opportunity to go little al the zone with
- 8:22Speaker 5: a pitch that he could drive that run in. That's
- 8:25Speaker 5: I mean, he's I don't know if he's the MVP yet,
- 8:28Speaker 5: but it is going to be a fun conversation the
- 8:31Speaker 5: rest of the year because if he can continue this
- 8:33Speaker 5: plate discipline, which I don't know how you change, that
- 8:37Speaker 5: is incredible.

- 9:41Speaker 1: We have Trek scoogle sound. So let's hear from him.
- 9:45Speaker 8: Derek.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Let's just start high level, getting on that mound, first
- 9:48Speaker 2: start for this new team.
- 9:49Speaker 3: What was that just like for you personally?
- 9:52Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean that's going to bed last night, you know, excited.
- 9:55Speaker 8: It felt like, uh, you know, my major league debut,
- 9:58Speaker 8: you know, and kind of saying type of vibe in
- 10:00Speaker 8: terms of, you know, the nerves running through.
- 10:02Speaker 3: But I think that's all good stuff.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Should be nervous.
- 10:10Speaker 3: So the first time of the new team, you're gonna
- 10:12Speaker 3: be nervous. I'm sorry, I don't care who you are.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Should be. It's a good nervous, though, it's not a
- 10:15Speaker 3: it's not a like I'm scared out there nervous and
- 10:18Speaker 3: he pitched fine. He pitched fine. It wasn't I mean,
- 10:20Speaker 3: they couldn't hit. And by the way, the Cubs with
- 10:24Speaker 3: the moves they made, the Cubs are a team that
- 10:27Speaker 3: is going to be reckoned with in the postseason. It's
- 10:29Speaker 3: going to be They're gonna be a tough out in
- 10:31Speaker 3: the postseason. I'm sorry they are. The way they catch
- 10:34Speaker 3: the ball, yeah, the way they catch the ball. Their
- 10:38Speaker 3: offense is clicking up. And if they get any kind
- 10:42Speaker 3: of starting pitching, because we know Craig Counsel can mix
- 10:44Speaker 3: and match the bullpen the best of them, they're gonna
- 10:46Speaker 3: be a tough out in the postseason. I'm sorry. We
- 10:48Speaker 3: could see a Chicago World Series.
- 10:50Speaker 2: What they've got guys coming back, arms missing that they're
- 10:53Speaker 2: going to come back Dodger style where it's like, hey,
- 10:56Speaker 2: this is not the arm talent that you're going to
- 10:58Speaker 2: see in October. And the thing is, in October you
- 11:01Speaker 2: don't need to rely on your full bullpen. You shrink
- 11:04Speaker 2: that down right.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Will be worried about the Dodgers five losses in a row.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Did you see they lost Dalton Rushing now basically for
- 11:10Speaker 2: the year at the Towers musicition towards U see al
- 11:13Speaker 2: slight tear shut down.
- 11:14Speaker 5: From any years.
- 11:16Speaker 1: No, no, no, there.
- 11:17Speaker 2: They don't know if he's going to catch again this season,
- 11:19Speaker 2: so he might just be a bench bat.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That's a big loss.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Big loss.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Back Ben Rvid almost caught like three back to back
- 11:32Speaker 5: no hitters. Uh, they're they're gonna be fine. Are we
- 11:36Speaker 5: worried about them? No? It sucks for Dalton Rushing. But
- 11:40Speaker 5: let's put it this way. Everybody has some type of
- 11:42Speaker 5: tear in your ucl, so good for them shut it down.
- 11:45Speaker 5: It doesn't that it doesn't get worse. But Terrek Scooble
- 11:50Speaker 5: being nervous. I was traded. I was part of fourteen
- 11:54Speaker 5: different organizations, some of them three or four times. You
- 11:57Speaker 5: get nervous every time because you're like, man, this is exciting.
- 12:00Speaker 5: It's like a new start. It's a new it's a
- 12:03Speaker 5: new opportunity. If you don't get nervous, if you're not
- 12:05Speaker 5: excited about it, I think it's time to go home.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you want to show the new org, the new teammates,
- 12:13Speaker 2: the new fans.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Also every game. I mean, I don't know about crawds.
- 12:16Speaker 3: But I was always I don't want to say nervous,
- 12:18Speaker 3: but I was excited. Every game. There's a there's always
- 12:21Speaker 3: a little bit, there's always a little bit of in
- 12:23Speaker 3: your belly, right every game, every game, there was not
- 12:26Speaker 3: a game that I played right. Actually, kind of at
- 12:29Speaker 3: the end, when I knew I was kind of done,
- 12:31Speaker 3: it was like, Okay, this isn't not that I wasn't excited,
- 12:35Speaker 3: but it wasn't the same that I was the year before,
- 12:38Speaker 3: the year before, the year before the year before. Right,
- 12:40Speaker 3: it was more of like, Okay, how am I going
- 12:42Speaker 3: to get through this game? Not physically but more it
- 12:44Speaker 3: was like, God, we suck and I suck, and how
- 12:46Speaker 3: am I going to get through these ninetings?
- 12:48Speaker 5: That's got it. That's gotta be tough. That's gotta be
- 12:51Speaker 5: tough if you're sucking. I mean, I was fortunate at
- 12:52Speaker 5: the end. And most guys when they're older, they're playing
- 12:55Speaker 5: on good teams, so you're.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Not like, how am I going to get this going?
- 13:00Speaker 5: No, like the adrenaline of needing to wanting to win
- 13:04Speaker 5: the game and do really well can be classified as nerves,
- 13:09Speaker 5: But I don't think it's nerves. I think it's just adrenaline,
- 13:11Speaker 5: and the best players that harness it do the best
- 13:14Speaker 5: as their careers wind down or as they go to
- 13:16Speaker 5: new places.
- 13:17Speaker 2: M Well, Dodger fans are pumped, and school is going
- 13:21Speaker 2: to hear it, of course when he gets home and
- 13:23Speaker 2: has a start there. If you want a Tarrek Schooble shirt,
- 13:26Speaker 2: this is the spot ft shop. The Foul Territory shop
- 13:30Speaker 2: dot com players collection includes a brand new Tarrek Scooble
- 13:35Speaker 2: shirt out there with the Dodger blue so go check
- 13:38Speaker 2: it out. Also, Dodger's Territory running multiple episodes per week,
- 13:42Speaker 2: most of them live, basically all of them live. Alana,
- 13:45Speaker 2: Katie and Clint hosting that one. If you want to
- 13:47Speaker 2: listen to it wherever you get your pods. If you
- 13:49Speaker 2: want to watch it or hate watch it and go
- 13:51Speaker 2: against them and say everything's not.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Fair, They're here for you. They will bite back.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Casey Mai said the Tigers never approached him about a
- 13:59Speaker 2: contract extent before he was traded. That's Bob Nightingale tweeting
- 14:03Speaker 2: it out. I'm not surprised. I mean he's been hurt
- 14:07Speaker 2: for them up and down. I think Schooble was more
- 14:10Speaker 2: of a priority. He was one one though he was
- 14:12Speaker 2: one one. So as Adlee Rutchman, we saw some one
- 14:14Speaker 2: ones moving.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah. Uh, I don't know. I mean they don't seem
- 14:20Speaker 3: to want to extend anybody. The Tigers is right now, have.
- 14:23Speaker 2: They extended any of the core besides McGonagall. Besides mcgon
- 14:29Speaker 2: that's only one.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Did they approach in twenty four about a four.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Year and I think they were Scott Harris.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Scott Harris said he approached him, and but I mean
- 14:38Speaker 3: his Boris guy, he wasn't gonna do that.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but the thing is, like he mentioned that, oh
- 14:42Speaker 1: he wants to go to free agency.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Boris guy. The other side was saying we were worlds apart.
- 14:47Speaker 2: They're offering him money that's way less than dudes out there,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and he's better than them. Okay, so I'm not talking
- 14:54Speaker 2: that one up to Trek Scooble wouldn't have resigned. I
- 14:57Speaker 2: think there was a world where he would have resigned.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Don't you Our number was right because he really liked Detroit.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Let's say let's say the market says he's worth four
- 15:05Speaker 2: and the Tigers are throwing out two. I'm just putting
- 15:07Speaker 2: numbers out there. If they threw three thirty at him,
- 15:10Speaker 2: he would he's gonna go.
- 15:11Speaker 3: That's that's where when teams say, oh, he tried, well,
- 15:16Speaker 3: they tried by giving him an offer that wasn't even close,
- 15:20Speaker 3: and then they can tell her when they tried.
- 15:21Speaker 2: That's like saying, oh, we tried for this starter in
- 15:24Speaker 2: the trade conversation because we threw a prospect package at
- 15:28Speaker 2: them that wasn't as good as some other team.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That's not trying.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It's the inside scoop of after senior insider Ken Rosenthal. Ken,
- 15:39Speaker 2: let's talk about these surplus sweep steaks. Your latest article
- 15:43Speaker 2: in The Athletic on the Red Sox versus the Orioles
- 15:46Speaker 2: in their approach give us more.
- 15:49Speaker 7: Well.
- 15:49Speaker 6: First of all, AJ, happy to talk to you again.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I know I couldn't talk to you on Saturday and
- 15:54Speaker 4: that caused some.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Friction, but we're good now. As for the Rushman trade,
- 15:58Speaker 6: to me, it was the most interesting of all.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Of them by a lot.
- 16:02Speaker 6: And as I wrote yesterday, it was the most interesting
- 16:04Speaker 6: because you had one team kind of regressing a little bit,
- 16:11Speaker 6: playing for the future.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Obviously that's the Oriols.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Then you had the other team going forward in a
- 16:16Speaker 6: way that can be argued was irresponsible. Now, both these
- 16:21Speaker 6: teams had logic for what they did and reasons for
- 16:25Speaker 6: what they did. In the Oriols case, granted, they still
- 16:28Speaker 6: believe they can compete and they're only a game and
- 16:30Speaker 6: a half out in the wild Card, but they traded
- 16:33Speaker 6: three big pieces, not just Dadley Rushman, Taylor Ward and
- 16:37Speaker 6: Tyler Wells, who was emerged as a really good reliever.
- 16:40Speaker 6: So when you take three big pieces off your team,
- 16:42Speaker 6: you're going backwards. Now, the reason they did it in
- 16:46Speaker 6: the case of Rushman was because they felt the return
- 16:49Speaker 6: was so overwhelming.
- 16:51Speaker 4: That it was worth it. Now, that's where you get
- 16:53Speaker 4: the surplus value.
- 16:54Speaker 6: The surplus value that the Orioles received, and that means
- 16:59Speaker 6: the amount of projected production they will get over the
- 17:04Speaker 6: player's projected salary that is way beyond what Adley Rushman
- 17:10Speaker 6: will deliver for the Red Sox. That's great and for
- 17:13Speaker 6: the Oriols it probably in that sense was a good trade.
- 17:16Speaker 6: They hadn't signed Rushman, he was a free agent after
- 17:19Speaker 6: next year. Wasn't happening, Okay, and they're not that good
- 17:22Speaker 6: a team.
- 17:23Speaker 4: We've seen that, But.
- 17:25Speaker 6: This is Michaelias kind of doing this again. They rebuilt
- 17:28Speaker 6: once they're not rebuilding again. This is not a rebuild.
- 17:32Speaker 6: He has made that point, and he is right. They
- 17:34Speaker 6: still have a lot of good players under contract, some
- 17:36Speaker 6: of them long term, but it is at least temporarily
- 17:40Speaker 6: a step back.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Ken. Yes, I get it. I get it from the
- 17:48Speaker 3: Red Sox and I get it from the Orioles. But
- 17:50Speaker 3: we heard yesterday, or we heard the first day when
- 17:52Speaker 3: this deal went down, from certain people, this is the
- 17:54Speaker 3: greatest trade, worst trade ever in the history of baseball
- 17:58Speaker 3: for the Red Sox. And then we heard yesterday from
- 18:01Speaker 3: some other people. Some of these players aren't as good
- 18:03Speaker 3: as other people feel, so it's hard to really figure
- 18:06Speaker 3: out who is right here. What made the Red Sox
- 18:10Speaker 3: just want to do this badly? I mean, I know
- 18:12Speaker 3: they're really short on catching, but do they think Ade
- 18:15Speaker 3: Retchman is the one piece that can get them to
- 18:17Speaker 3: win the World Series?
- 18:20Speaker 6: Evidently they feel he's a big piece.
- 18:21Speaker 4: AJ And you're right.
- 18:23Speaker 6: This trade from their perspective is really interesting because the
- 18:27Speaker 6: players that they traded, three of their top six prospects
- 18:30Speaker 6: from a good system, two of them pitchers. These guys
- 18:34Speaker 6: conceivably could come back to haunt them. But we can
- 18:37Speaker 6: say that about prospects all the time. And the one
- 18:39Speaker 6: thing I liked about this from Craig Breslow's perspective is
- 18:44Speaker 6: we talk about prospects as if they cannot be traded.
- 18:47Speaker 6: Everybody talks about this. That's ridiculous. Look at some of
- 18:50Speaker 6: the Red Sox, a big name that couldn't be touched,
- 18:53Speaker 6: who have not succeeded. Christian Campbell, Brian Beyo, you can
- 18:57Speaker 6: make the case with him too, Tristan Cassis, and of
- 19:00Speaker 6: course Marcelo Meyer who was traded to the Giants because
- 19:03Speaker 6: he essentially did not make it with the Red Sox.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Then the Yankees, Anthony Volpi, Jason Domingez just gets sent down.
- 19:10Speaker 6: We hear this all the time.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Not all of these guys become superstars.
- 19:15Speaker 6: If you're Craig Breslo and you've already traded Connolly early
- 19:18Speaker 6: by the way, for Curtis Mead, you evidently feel that
- 19:22Speaker 6: you can keep finding and developing pitching. It's kind of
- 19:25Speaker 6: like the Nationals with hitting right now, the Nationals feel
- 19:28Speaker 6: they can really develop hitters. Okay, so maybe you trade
- 19:32Speaker 6: a Curtis Mead, and maybe if you're Craig Breslo, you
- 19:35Speaker 6: trade Connolly early and then the two pitchers that went in.
- 19:38Speaker 4: The Rushman trade.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Again, it's a really interesting way of going about it.
- 19:42Speaker 6: And in the bigger perspective from the Red Sox, let's
- 19:46Speaker 6: look at their whole season started off horribly. Breslo fires,
- 19:50Speaker 6: Alex Korra replaces in with Chad Tracy. For a while
- 19:53Speaker 6: it wasn't so great, and then they took off. They're
- 19:56Speaker 6: in this incredible run right now, and Breslo is looking
- 19:59Speaker 6: at this like, hey, we got a shot here in
- 20:01Speaker 6: a week league, let's go. And he felt like this
- 20:05Speaker 6: is what he said, that he wanted to honor his
- 20:07Speaker 6: players and what they've.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Done and all of that.
- 20:08Speaker 6: You always hear that from executives this time of year,
- 20:11Speaker 6: but he has clearly put his stamp on this. And yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 6: there's risk here, and there's risk with Rushman too. That's
- 20:18Speaker 6: the thing that I think people are missing. Rushman is
- 20:20Speaker 6: a guy on a IL for the third time this season,
- 20:24Speaker 6: fifth time in the last two years. He's a guy
- 20:26Speaker 6: that is only under control, as I said, through next season.
- 20:31Speaker 6: Next season's in jeopardy, so as I wrote, we don't
- 20:33Speaker 6: even know how many games he's actually going to play
- 20:35Speaker 6: for the Red Sox.
- 20:37Speaker 4: That too, was a risk.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Was there a little bit of, hey, we can't let
- 20:42Speaker 5: Alie Rushman go to the Yankees because there was talk
- 20:45Speaker 5: that the Yankees were in on it. Obviously you're the
- 20:47Speaker 5: guy to sift through all this muddle of hearsay.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I would expect Eric that the Red Sox were quite
- 20:57Speaker 6: aware that.
- 20:57Speaker 4: The Yankees needed catching. And if you're the Red.
- 21:01Speaker 6: Sox and you're sitting there and you're kind of looking
- 21:03Speaker 6: at the landscape, you know that there is a possibility
- 21:06Speaker 6: he could go to the Yankees, he could go to
- 21:07Speaker 6: the Rays. The Rays added a catcher at this deadline too,
- 21:10Speaker 6: Liam Hicks, So maybe that's part of it. And the
- 21:14Speaker 6: other thing that I didn't mention in my previous answer
- 21:16Speaker 6: was they have the ability, of course to sign him
- 21:19Speaker 6: long term, which would mitigate all the risk of the
- 21:22Speaker 6: short term not playing that many games, etc. But the
- 21:26Speaker 6: problem with that is this is the guy who's had
- 21:28Speaker 6: an inconsistent track record. He's been really good at times Rushman,
- 21:32Speaker 6: and not so good last year not so good. So
- 21:35Speaker 6: do you want to sign him to an extension? All
- 21:38Speaker 6: of these things are in the mix, including what you
- 21:40Speaker 6: asked about. I'm sure they were quite aware that, yes,
- 21:43Speaker 6: the Yankees were looking for a catcher, But I don't
- 21:46Speaker 6: know the teams operate in that.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Sense as their main motivation.
- 21:51Speaker 6: It's kind of in their heads maybe as it was
- 21:53Speaker 6: with the Dodgers in schoolbl knowing if you went to Milwaukee.
- 21:55Speaker 6: It changes the equation, but it's not the primary driver.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Hey, Ken, we've crushed this trade, the Rutchman Red Sox
- 22:06Speaker 3: from both sides, right, we've we've worn this trade out.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I want to talk about the Braves. A lot of angry,
- 22:12Speaker 3: angry Braves fans, right, they all have their tomahawks out,
- 22:14Speaker 3: they're all coming after Alex Anthopolis. They tried for Jacob
- 22:19Speaker 3: de Gram. Jacob de Grom has the right to say no.
- 22:21Speaker 3: They shot for some bigger fish and they ended up
- 22:23Speaker 3: with Maley and Lane Thomas and some you know and
- 22:26Speaker 3: nothing major. Do The Braves fans have a right to
- 22:29Speaker 3: be this angry at what Alex did after in twenty
- 22:32Speaker 3: one when he went out and got you know, Adam Duval,
- 22:34Speaker 3: Jack Peterson and Jorge Soilaire.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Yes, no, and when they won the World Series that
- 22:40Speaker 6: was five years ago, and every year is different, and
- 22:43Speaker 6: certainly Alexanthopolis has had an amazing run as their president.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Of Baseball Operations.
- 22:48Speaker 6: But and I've written about this at some length, They've
- 22:52Speaker 6: been looking since.
- 22:54Speaker 4: The start of the off season for.
- 22:56Speaker 6: A playoff caliber starter, for a guy that could pair
- 22:59Speaker 6: with Sale and whoever else they had healthy and give
- 23:02Speaker 6: them a real chance in October to do something special.
- 23:06Speaker 6: They didn't find that guy in the offseason. They didn't
- 23:08Speaker 6: get that guy at the deadline. Now they have some
- 23:11Speaker 6: still interesting pieces. Grant Holmes pitched really well last night.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Smith's Shawfer's coming back. They may still be okay, but
- 23:19Speaker 6: sure I would have liked to have seen them get
- 23:22Speaker 6: one of the starters that got moved. And let's face it,
- 23:24Speaker 6: San Diego, a team that's not as good as the Braves,
- 23:28Speaker 6: a team that doesn't have a farm system as good
- 23:30Speaker 6: as the Braves. They landed Robbie Ray and Casey Myiz.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Now they paid for that. Aj Preller always pays for it,
- 23:37Speaker 6: then sometimes overpays. But that's a different mindset that they took.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where I want to double down.
- 23:45Speaker 2: It sounded like the comments from Braves brass had to
- 23:49Speaker 2: do with Tyler Molly and backing up that they think
- 23:51Speaker 2: he's going to be better. Well, if you're backing that up,
- 23:54Speaker 2: but then you were trying for Jacob to crom You
- 23:56Speaker 2: do have to give in a little bit and say, hey,
- 23:58Speaker 2: we didn't come up with the other starter that we
- 24:00Speaker 2: were going for, and that was a big miss.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That's on us.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I think Braves fans are number one pissed, but at
- 24:06Speaker 2: least we're looking for a little bit of Hey, we
- 24:08Speaker 2: couldn't make it happen. We failed, and it was more
- 24:10Speaker 2: of a defensive mode in my mind from what I
- 24:13Speaker 2: was reading there versus Yes, what you're saying in aj
- 24:16Speaker 2: prelor Ken is what the lenks sometimes dunks on him about, Oh,
- 24:20Speaker 2: there's going to be no more prospects. He's going to
- 24:22Speaker 2: be so screwed dext years. I'm gonna be able to
- 24:24Speaker 2: trade for anyone. He just got two starters that can
- 24:26Speaker 2: pitch playoff games.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Eventually.
- 24:30Speaker 6: The feeling in the industry is that the padres are
- 24:32Speaker 6: going to hit an iceberg, that their expensive contracts are
- 24:35Speaker 6: going to haunt them Machado and Bogarts as they get older,
- 24:38Speaker 6: and that they won't be able to sustain this.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I was writing that, I don't know three or.
- 24:43Speaker 6: Four years ago, wrote it pretty consistently consistently for a
- 24:46Speaker 6: while and eventually stopped writing.
- 24:48Speaker 4: It because he keeps doing it.
- 24:51Speaker 6: He keeps putting a competitive team on the.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Field and going for it. It's what he does.
- 24:55Speaker 6: He has a unique way of replenishing his system. It's
- 24:58Speaker 6: never going to be great the way he trades players,
- 25:00Speaker 6: and he traded four pretty good ones in these two trades,
- 25:03Speaker 6: but you have to give him credit for that. And
- 25:06Speaker 6: the contracts are one thing. And Peter Sidler, the late
- 25:09Speaker 6: Peter Sidler, was really behind them. I'm not excusing Preller
- 25:13Speaker 6: and saying he's the greatest. They have, not one I know,
- 25:16Speaker 6: but his approach is one that has transformed that franchise.
- 25:21Speaker 6: It's made them from sleepy, small market team into this
- 25:26Speaker 6: dynamic force. They're not perfect, they're not even close to perfect,
- 25:31Speaker 6: and they've had a rough year. But at the deadline
- 25:34Speaker 6: again he did what he could to try to win,
- 25:37Speaker 6: and that was his quote yesterday.
- 25:39Speaker 4: We want to win.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Didn't trade Mason Miller, didn't trade more Home. They acquired
- 25:43Speaker 6: two starting pitchers. And if they get Musgrove and Paveda
- 25:47Speaker 6: back and Paveda had a setback he appeared yesterday, then
- 25:50Speaker 6: they might be formidable.
- 25:52Speaker 3: You mean walking off the mountain after your second batter
- 25:54Speaker 3: straight to the dugout. Is that's probably a setback here.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Then he pitched in the ball.
- 25:59Speaker 3: I was weird. I don't know. I don't I've never
- 26:01Speaker 3: seen a guy in the middle of a he throws
- 26:03Speaker 3: a pitch and he just walks straight to the bolt,
- 26:05Speaker 3: right right to the dug out. Everyone. Maybe they thought
- 26:07Speaker 3: you're not fast go.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Maybe he thought it was strike three but it was
- 26:10Speaker 1: only a second hitter.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I don't know. To not fast go to not collecto
- 26:12Speaker 3: hundred dollars, goes straight to the dugout. Ken on this
- 26:15Speaker 3: Preller thing. I think he's great because as a former player,
- 26:17Speaker 3: I want to try to win. Every year. Everyone says,
- 26:20Speaker 3: these contracts are gonna catch them, these contracts are gonna
- 26:22Speaker 3: catch them, They're gonna catch him. But every year he
- 26:24Speaker 3: finds more prospects. Every year he finds more teams that
- 26:26Speaker 3: are willing to deal. Every year he gets rentals that
- 26:29Speaker 3: work out or don't work out. But the fans, they packed,
- 26:31Speaker 3: They get forty two thousand every single night. Is this
- 26:35Speaker 3: It seems like there's two ways to do it right.
- 26:37Speaker 3: It's one where you prospect hor and you never give
- 26:39Speaker 3: up anyone. You just try to make the playoffs every year,
- 26:42Speaker 3: and you, oh, everyone's happy we make the playoffs every year,
- 26:44Speaker 3: or be your a J. Preller and you say, you
- 26:46Speaker 3: know what, making the playoffs isn't good enough. I want
- 26:48Speaker 3: to win the first World Series. Is there a right
- 26:49Speaker 3: or wrong way to do it?
- 26:52Speaker 6: No, there are many ways to do it, honestly, And
- 26:56Speaker 6: we see this in the sport.
- 26:57Speaker 4: It's kind of the beauty of the sport.
- 26:58Speaker 6: For all the complaining about the teams that have no
- 27:01Speaker 6: chance what Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland do on a
- 27:05Speaker 6: regular basis, and there are a couple of others almost
- 27:08Speaker 6: in that realm as well. They compete like crazy, doing
- 27:11Speaker 6: it in a completely different way, of course than the
- 27:14Speaker 6: Dodgers and the Yankees, for example. In Preller's case, they're
- 27:18Speaker 6: almost an outlier because he operates a team that is
- 27:24Speaker 6: in a smaller market as if he's in a big market.
- 27:27Speaker 6: And that is what makes them so unique. And listen
- 27:31Speaker 6: the contracts Machado and Bogarts. They are going to haunt
- 27:35Speaker 6: them eventually. These guys are signed into their late thirties.
- 27:38Speaker 6: We've seen some slippage for both of those guys. Though
- 27:42Speaker 6: Machado's really hot right now. I get it, and it's
- 27:45Speaker 6: a fair point. But what are we talking about now?
- 27:47Speaker 6: This is really the fifth year, orse sixth year where
- 27:50Speaker 6: they've been really competitive, and people talk, oh, well, you
- 27:53Speaker 6: know these small market teams they can build up, but
- 27:55Speaker 6: they've got to go back at some point five six
- 27:58Speaker 6: years a pretty long time if you ask me.
- 28:01Speaker 5: Let's go to the Phillies and one of the Padres
- 28:03Speaker 5: old players, Luis a Rise. Their major pickup at the
- 28:07Speaker 5: trade deadline was this Don Browski sufficing his team and
- 28:12Speaker 5: his team captain leader and Bryce Harper that hey, we
- 28:16Speaker 5: need to get somebody, and Bryce said I'll go to
- 28:18Speaker 5: the outfield. Or was it just the only real piece
- 28:21Speaker 5: available that would fit kind of fit on this team?
- 28:27Speaker 4: I said Rushman, that trade was the most interesting.
- 28:29Speaker 6: This one is one A and it's one A because
- 28:32Speaker 6: of all of the machinations that had to happen to
- 28:36Speaker 6: get Luis a Rya as comfortable or accommodate him at
- 28:40Speaker 6: second base.
- 28:41Speaker 4: You had to put Bryce and.
- 28:42Speaker 6: Started third, Alec Bowman first, and yes, Bryce Harper had
- 28:45Speaker 6: to go back to the outfield.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Harper had been.
- 28:47Speaker 6: Consistent and saying for a while that he would go
- 28:51Speaker 6: to the outfield if they got a first baseman. Turns
- 28:53Speaker 6: out they got a second baseman and then moved the
- 28:55Speaker 6: first a guy played at first base. But it speaks
- 28:59Speaker 6: well of him, it speaks well of Dombrowski to do this.
- 29:03Speaker 6: They saw the market for right hand and hitting outfielders
- 29:06Speaker 6: and didn't love it. Taylor Ward, Joe Adell. Maybe the
- 29:10Speaker 6: prices were too high for them and their estimation. I'm
- 29:12Speaker 6: not sure, but the way this works for them is
- 29:17Speaker 6: that Arise becomes the one contact guy or the main
- 29:20Speaker 6: contact guy in their lineup. It's a slugging lineup, it's
- 29:23Speaker 6: not a contact lineup, so he really complements their player
- 29:28Speaker 6: as well. We'll see defensively how this works out. I've
- 29:32Speaker 6: heard the logic from Phillies people.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Well, defense can't be any worse. It's the worst in
- 29:36Speaker 4: the league, so how bunch worse is.
- 29:37Speaker 6: Are going to be okay, But it's still kind of
- 29:41Speaker 6: a stretch to all these things that are going on.
- 29:44Speaker 6: I know they say Boem's played some first, he has,
- 29:47Speaker 6: Stott's played some third in his past, and Bryce of
- 29:49Speaker 6: course has played the outfield, but Bryce is several years
- 29:54Speaker 6: removed from.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Playing the outfield.
- 29:55Speaker 6: He's an older guy now, not old, but older than
- 29:57Speaker 6: he was, obviously, and we'll see if that takes a
- 30:01Speaker 6: toll on him.
- 30:02Speaker 2: All Right, it's been the last couple of minutes here
- 30:04Speaker 2: with two of the stars coming up on Saturday in
- 30:07Speaker 2: the Guardians White Sox game that is on Fox and
- 30:10Speaker 2: the Fox One app. We'll have more on the game
- 30:12Speaker 2: specifically Friday with Ken, but AJ won't be there Friday,
- 30:16Speaker 2: of course, he's got his day of rest on Friday.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Ken, Ken, here's the thing, Like you said, you know, listen,
- 30:22Speaker 3: I listened to you when you said, don't talk to me,
- 30:24Speaker 3: don't worry. I didn't look at your little iPad. But
- 30:25Speaker 3: you're chatting away with whoever the heck you think you're
- 30:29Speaker 3: talking to. That's so important. Okay. I didn't even look
- 30:32Speaker 3: at your phone. I didn't look at you. I made
- 30:35Speaker 3: sure that I kept my eyes to the right. You
- 30:36Speaker 3: were on the left in the child seat. I was
- 30:38Speaker 3: on the right, in the adult seat, so I looked
- 30:40Speaker 3: over here. Okay. But here's what I'm mad about. One
- 30:43Speaker 3: you made me wait for like twenty minutes, so I
- 30:45Speaker 3: had all these all these cup fans coming up. Can
- 30:47Speaker 3: I get a picture with you? And I'm like, where
- 30:50Speaker 3: is Ken? Where is Ken, Why is Ken not here?
- 30:53Speaker 3: Ken didn't even have to do anything after the game.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Why is Ken taking so long? And then this week, okay,
- 30:58Speaker 3: when we drive to the park on Saturday, I'm going
- 31:00Speaker 3: to respectfully ask you not to speak to me. I
- 31:03Speaker 3: have to give a speech on Saturday, so I'm gonna
- 31:05Speaker 3: have to manually prepare for like hours and days, and
- 31:08Speaker 3: you know it's been weighing on me for weeks, Ken,
- 31:11Speaker 3: So please respectfully don't talk to me on Saturday.
- 31:15Speaker 4: All right, that's fair.
- 31:16Speaker 6: And actually, Aja, I am going to apologize publicly for
- 31:20Speaker 6: the fact that you had to wait because I was
- 31:23Speaker 6: locked in. I was actually writing something at that time,
- 31:25Speaker 6: right by the trucks. I was outside, I had my
- 31:27Speaker 6: little iPad out writing and I didn't realize you were waiting,
- 31:32Speaker 6: And I told Jen, our operations person. Later, I said, Jane,
- 31:35Speaker 6: you should have just told me we got to go.
- 31:37Speaker 6: And I apologize for that. As for Saturday and this
- 31:41Speaker 6: great Churchillian speech that you're going to give, I cannot
- 31:44Speaker 6: wait to hear it. I cannot wait to see Ozzy
- 31:47Speaker 6: have his number retired, and it's just going to be
- 31:49Speaker 6: a great day. Now here's my question, because you mocked
- 31:52Speaker 6: me for this too. Are we going out Saturday night
- 31:55Speaker 6: to hear Adam dj?
- 31:56Speaker 3: He's not DJ and he's djay and Friday night that's
- 32:00Speaker 3: a little problematic DJing on a boat. He's DJing. And
- 32:04Speaker 3: I didn't go Saturday because you made me so late
- 32:07Speaker 3: that I did couldn't go.
- 32:07Speaker 4: No, No, that's not why you didn't go.
- 32:09Speaker 5: You were tired.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Well that's true too.
- 32:11Speaker 8: Wow.
- 32:11Speaker 6: After read on Scott, Scott, after ripping me for not
- 32:15Speaker 6: being a good colleague and going out and listening to
- 32:18Speaker 6: DJ Adam Iman two nights before the deadline, he ripped
- 32:21Speaker 6: me for this, A j gets in the car with
- 32:23Speaker 6: me and said, hey, aren't you going to see Adam?
- 32:25Speaker 4: He doesn't na, Man, I'm not into it tonight.
- 32:27Speaker 3: No, because I knew Scooba was gonna get traded, so
- 32:29Speaker 3: I had to get my rest for that night. That's why.
- 32:33Speaker 1: That's right, his beauty wrest. Are you going this weekend.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Friday night on a boat?
- 32:40Speaker 1: But he's doing the game the next day?
- 32:41Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, he's got a speech to prepare, Scott.
- 32:45Speaker 3: I gotta get my beauty rest.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Right, He's got to sit meditate for three hours.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Winsday Churchill Prasinski, yep, it's gonna be great.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Oh, I can't wait. It's gonna be It's gonna be great.
- 32:55Speaker 3: All about me.
- 32:56Speaker 2: It'll be on Fox and the Fox one app. Ken,

- 33:36Speaker 2: have a little more energy, right like Friday Saturdays Gossman
- 33:40Speaker 2: and Clay Holmes for the Cubs.
- 33:42Speaker 1: That should be fun.
- 33:44Speaker 2: We're going to see that over the next week and change,
- 33:46Speaker 2: especially on the starting pitching side. When we had double
- 33:49Speaker 2: digit starters moved. So see geek cooking us up with
- 33:52Speaker 2: a little game preview action.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Did you like that animation in your.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Well like change? I was like, whoa, it changed right before.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like you're in heaven now.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Am I picking a game I want to go see?
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but it doesn't have to be today. Like I
- 34:05Speaker 1: just gave you the many Socks.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I want to go see the Socks play the Socks, obviously,
- 34:10Speaker 3: and then I want to see this weekend Cleveland play
- 34:12Speaker 3: the Socks because that's a big series and someone will
- 34:14Speaker 3: be there can I'll be there on Saturday, so that'll
- 34:16Speaker 3: be fun. Bozzyk his number retired. And other than that,
- 34:21Speaker 3: you know, I.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Have one tonight Skeans against Kyle Harrison.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good one. That's a big one. That's
- 34:27Speaker 3: a big one. How well Skens do Because Skeen's been
- 34:29Speaker 3: very up and down this year, his Villo's down. There
- 34:31Speaker 3: is some concern about Skens is Velo.
- 34:34Speaker 2: He keeps saying it's not a big deal and he
- 34:36Speaker 2: wants to go even to starts and all of that,
- 34:38Speaker 2: or at least that's.
- 34:38Speaker 3: But I remember facing Justin Verlander and he'd go ninety three,
- 34:40Speaker 3: ninety four, and then the seventh inning in the base
- 34:42Speaker 3: of Lodore comes one hundred, So I mean, I mean
- 34:46Speaker 3: there was some dudes. Surezer would do that, Verlander would
- 34:49Speaker 3: do that, Grinky could do that. There were some guys
- 34:50Speaker 3: that you know, they started out eighty eight, ninety ninety one,
- 34:53Speaker 3: ninety two, and then all of a sudden it was
- 34:55Speaker 3: ninety eight ninety nine and the seventh inning and you're like,
- 34:57Speaker 3: whoa wait a minute, where was that? With two outs
- 34:59Speaker 3: and nobody on who is this closer? Yeah? Seriously, what change?
- 35:03Speaker 1: It's just me justin I have won more Kratz.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Tonight, the last game of the evening or one of
- 35:10Speaker 2: the last games first pitch wise, is Casey Mayes and
- 35:13Speaker 2: the Padres against Mitch Bratt and the We didn't do
- 35:17Speaker 2: much Diamondbacks.
- 35:21Speaker 5: Man, I don't know how. I don't know how the
- 35:23Speaker 5: diamond Bass can sell that to the fans. That's what
- 35:25Speaker 5: I was going to ask you when you mentioned it before.
- 35:28Speaker 5: Snake's Territories gotta be feeling like I don't know if
- 35:31Speaker 5: you've listened to their episode yet. That's tonight trade deadline.
- 35:36Speaker 5: It can't be feeling real great. It can't be feeling
- 35:40Speaker 5: real great. It was very lackluster.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and they usually do stuff Mike Casin's very active
- 35:49Speaker 2: whether they buy or sell.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Last year they sold all the parts.
- 35:51Speaker 3: He didn't really have a lot. He still need a
- 35:53Speaker 3: first baseman for me. But that's a whole different story.
- 35:57Speaker 3: I don't know what's gonna be to me. This is
- 36:00Speaker 3: one of the great things about the trade. That line.
- 36:02Speaker 3: It's August fourth, fifth, and everyone's like, oh, our team
- 36:05Speaker 3: did this, our team to that. I just always look
- 36:07Speaker 3: back on our two thousand and five team and everyone's like, oh,
- 36:10Speaker 3: they didn't do enough. The Indians at the time were
- 36:12Speaker 3: gonna catch him. We got Jem Blum. That was the
- 36:15Speaker 3: only move we made. We got Jeff Blum. You know
- 36:17Speaker 3: what Jeff Blum did. Hit a home run in the
- 36:19Speaker 3: World Series is only a patter of the World Series.
- 36:20Speaker 3: He won a World Series game for us.
- 36:22Speaker 4: That was it.
- 36:23Speaker 3: That was the only thing Jeff Blum is remembered for.
- 36:25Speaker 3: But everyone at the time said, oh, we didn't do enough,
- 36:27Speaker 3: we didn't do enough. Well, you never know, sometimes not
- 36:30Speaker 3: doing enough is the right move.
- 36:31Speaker 2: You guys were damn good already. Yeah right, I wanted
- 36:38Speaker 2: Louis Garcia Junior for the Diamondbacks.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean we wanted a lot of trades.
- 36:44Speaker 3: It didn't happen, and guys went to other teams.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Said first base, that would have been one.
- 36:48Speaker 3: There's just there's a lot of trades should have happened.
- 36:51Speaker 1: They would have allowed him play every day. Who Garcia
- 36:54Speaker 1: is notnna play every day for the Yankees?
- 36:55Speaker 3: I know, I don't know. I don't know. But it's
- 36:58Speaker 3: gonna be interesting. The next month is gonna fascinating. Oh yeah,
- 37:01Speaker 3: especially in the American League when every team is like
- 37:03Speaker 3: so pinched together.
- 37:05Speaker 1: There's a decent chance that one of the sellers makes
- 37:07Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 37:09Speaker 3: It was a Minnesota Twins style a couple of years ago,
- 37:11Speaker 3: where they they sold and they or actually they just
- 37:13Speaker 3: didn't do anything.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Tigers, Tigers, they sold Flaherty in twenty four and then
- 37:18Speaker 2: they went on their run. The Orioles could make the playoffs.
- 37:22Speaker 2: They can make the playoffs. The Rangers could make the playoffs.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I'm missing at least one or two non buyers, non buyers,
- 37:36Speaker 2: not believing.
- 37:38Speaker 5: That's a different that's a different category. Sellers are there
- 37:43Speaker 5: the mats. Non buyers are exactly what a J just said.
- 37:47Speaker 5: You wouldn't wouldn't have been like they were.
- 37:50Speaker 1: They sold hard, they sold hard. They could make the playoffs,
- 37:54Speaker 1: they could.
- 37:57Speaker 5: And a crying about it because the Whites not collapsed.
- 38:00Speaker 3: If that happens, not necessarily, they can make it. They
- 38:04Speaker 3: can be a wildcard non necessarily.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Yep.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Now I'm just saying, at.
- 38:08Speaker 3: The wildcard look at the wildcard standings.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It's laser close, laser tight. Hey can hook you up.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Okay, fine, you can go see them though, and determine
- 38:21Speaker 2: that for yourself. Do your own scating reports at the games.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Thanks to sege Territory ten ten percent off MLB tickets.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Click the link in the description of this episode. That'll
- 38:30Speaker 2: help you download the app and get the code automatically
- 38:33Speaker 2: added to your account if you choose to use it later. Hey,
- 38:47Speaker 2: the Philadelphia Phillies picked up Luisa Rise and he had
- 38:50Speaker 2: quite the debut, had a great ovation, he had a
- 38:52Speaker 2: great over.
- 38:52Speaker 3: First a bat, he got a hit. He was super excited.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Guys love him. That's why they trade for him.
- 38:56Speaker 3: So cool.
- 38:57Speaker 2: You can make two cases on trades. Sometimes you can
- 39:00Speaker 2: go why does this guy always get traded? And sometimes
- 39:02Speaker 2: you can go why does this guy always get acquired?
- 39:06Speaker 3: Because he can hit?
- 39:08Speaker 1: And I think he's good energy.
- 39:10Speaker 3: True, he's so happy every time I see him. He's
- 39:12Speaker 3: so happy to talk to him. He's so much fun,
- 39:16Speaker 3: so fun.
- 39:17Speaker 1: What's the vibe there, Kratz.
- 39:19Speaker 5: I mean the vibe is this is a Phillies fan
- 39:23Speaker 5: base that maybe the last fan base that maybe the
- 39:26Speaker 5: Cardinals do that still looks at batting average. They're gonna
- 39:30Speaker 5: love Luisa Rise. Luisa Rise in a bad year, hits
- 39:32Speaker 5: three hundred. This Phillies fan base doesn't care who has
- 39:36Speaker 5: over eight hundred ops. They just care about wins and
- 39:40Speaker 5: who has the highest batting average. They're gonna love him.
- 39:43Speaker 5: They're going to love him. They're gonna love his energy.
- 39:47Speaker 5: They're gonna love the fact that like he actually shows
- 39:51Speaker 5: the emotion they're going to they're just and he's gonna
- 39:55Speaker 5: get hit. They don't care if he doesn't walk, they
- 39:57Speaker 5: don't care. He still what's weird is he's batting fourth.
- 40:04Speaker 5: He's batting fourth in a lineup with Bryce Harper, MVP,
- 40:08Speaker 5: Kyle Schwarber, fifty plus homers like Trey Turner. I thinks
- 40:12Speaker 5: hit thirty something like of all the guys that you're like, Okay,
- 40:16Speaker 5: where's he gonna hit? They had Schwarber leading off with
- 40:19Speaker 5: Louisa Rise hitting forth. I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm
- 40:22Speaker 5: just saying I don't know. I don't know where else
- 40:26Speaker 5: he would hit.
- 40:30Speaker 3: It doesn't bother him, though, how would you do the lineup?
- 40:33Speaker 3: It doesn't bother. That's one thing about Rise. It doesn't bother.
- 40:35Speaker 3: He's not like a guy that's gonna go up and say, gosh,
- 40:37Speaker 3: i'm hitting fourth, I need to try to hit homers.
- 40:39Speaker 3: He's gonna go up there and say, I do what
- 40:40Speaker 3: I do. I'm gonna take my get to two strikes,
- 40:42Speaker 3: fall off ten and slash a single somewhere like that's awesome.
- 40:46Speaker 3: That's something where, well, you're not gonna hit him lead
- 40:48Speaker 3: off right, because Schwarber has leadoff on Lockdown. You know
- 40:51Speaker 3: the way their lineup is constructed. He has to hit fourth,
- 40:54Speaker 3: and that's fine. Doesn't bombers Bryce find and right.
- 40:58Speaker 5: Funny, Shber's not always the Schwarber' is not always the
- 41:01Speaker 5: leader he was last night. And I think this is
- 41:04Speaker 5: more of their it's gonna be lefty righty because Trey
- 41:07Speaker 5: Turner's been leading off. I just think you can't put
- 41:10Speaker 5: a rise. He's not a slug on the basis, you
- 41:13Speaker 5: can't put a rise in front of tray because prey
- 41:16Speaker 5: is gonna need to steal bases. But to me, I
- 41:19Speaker 5: think it'd be interesting if he hits fourth because he
- 41:22Speaker 5: puts the ball in play so much. Is it going
- 41:25Speaker 5: to be a ton of RBIs with the chance of
- 41:28Speaker 5: more groundball double plays? Like I I love it. I
- 41:33Speaker 5: think it's kind of outside the box, just like people
- 41:36Speaker 5: are so against Kyle Schwarber hitting first. Well, he only
- 41:39Speaker 5: hits first one time, you only hit fourth one time.
- 41:43Speaker 5: Then it's just a matter of how the outs fall,
- 41:45Speaker 5: the innings fall, the batter's fall.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I just still think it's funny.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I played a lot of baseball video games growing up,
- 41:52Speaker 2: and I can you know how I would play, like
- 41:54Speaker 2: say against a friend, and be like, all right, let's
- 41:55Speaker 2: set our lineups first, and then we'll go into the game.
- 41:58Speaker 6: Right.
- 41:59Speaker 2: If I step my line like fifteen years ago, twenty
- 42:02Speaker 2: years ago off a rise cleanup and Schwarber leading off,
- 42:07Speaker 2: they'd be like, you don't know ball? This is embarrassing. Yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 2: you'd get made fun of it school for it. I
- 42:13Speaker 2: don't think you can do that anymore.
- 42:15Speaker 5: But's a change, Scott. You were a nice You were
- 42:19Speaker 5: a nice kid. Nobody make fun of you. But yeah,
- 42:20Speaker 5: things changed.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Doesn't mean you can avoid getting made fun of for
- 42:24Speaker 2: not knowing ball, but yes, the industry has changed. It's
- 42:27Speaker 2: not necessarily the right way to do it, but it's
- 42:30Speaker 2: at least a way to do it that doesn't get
- 42:32Speaker 2: criticized anymore.
- 42:32Speaker 1: That's the point.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Yes, and I think and I think a Rise technically
- 42:38Speaker 5: breaks up lefties depending on how they're going to do
- 42:41Speaker 5: the lineup. The reason I say that is because Arise
- 42:44Speaker 5: is fine against left handers. He's not elite, but he's
- 42:48Speaker 5: fine against left handers where you know, teams are going
- 42:51Speaker 5: to be okay bringing a lefty in, and the Phillies
- 42:54Speaker 5: are gonna be okay with a Rise being able to
- 42:56Speaker 5: face that lefty in the middle where they had Boom
- 43:00Speaker 5: trying to split those guys up, where they had Trey
- 43:02Speaker 5: sometimes trying to split those guys up.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Lazard is the one that stole the show, even though
- 43:08Speaker 2: who he surrives was getting all the level. And then
- 43:09Speaker 2: also you have Bryce Harper going to the outfields and
- 43:12Speaker 2: getting a chance right away. There was a lot happening
- 43:15Speaker 2: in Philadelphia. It kind of wakes you up a little bit.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Energy, gives you a listen. Anytime we've talked about this
- 43:21Speaker 3: many times. Anytime you get you acquire players, it really
- 43:25Speaker 3: does give you a shot of energy as a team.
- 43:27Speaker 3: It does as a player. You're like, all right, let's go.
- 43:30Speaker 3: We got new guys, We've got reinforcements. These guys are
- 43:32Speaker 3: coming in with energy. We can do this. And that's
- 43:34Speaker 3: what it looked like in Philly and Loazard has been
- 43:36Speaker 3: really good.
- 43:36Speaker 1: By the way he has.
- 43:39Speaker 5: I was working for the Phillies when Harper moved to
- 43:42Speaker 5: first base and he said some reason, standing at first base,
- 43:47Speaker 5: his back started to tighten up more than when he
- 43:50Speaker 5: was in the outfield. It'll be interesting to see how
- 43:52Speaker 5: that transition for him back to the outfield goes. I mean,
- 43:57Speaker 5: those were his words, and he needs to learn that
- 44:01Speaker 5: be on his feet at a different position. We'll see
- 44:04Speaker 5: how this goes back in the outfield.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I like Bryce better in the outfield.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Wasn't what weren't They also worried about his uh, his arm.
- 44:14Speaker 3: Remember he had he had Tommy Jones order, didn't he Yeah,
- 44:16Speaker 3: but it was a while ago. Yeah, that's why they
- 44:19Speaker 3: moved him first originally because you can get back on
- 44:21Speaker 3: the field paster, and they were worried about the wear
- 44:23Speaker 3: and tear on him. I mean, this is just for
- 44:25Speaker 3: this year. We'll be back in first next year. Bob's
- 44:27Speaker 3: a free agent. Arise a free agent.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Three months of Bryce Harper in the outfield, we're gonna live. Yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 1: he's not.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he likes it. I think he likes
- 44:37Speaker 2: the whole. Hey, look, I'll take the glove and go
- 44:41Speaker 2: to the outfield if it gets us a piece. I
- 44:44Speaker 2: think it's a team like, yeah, likes our team's better now.
- 44:50Speaker 5: Right, first pitch right to you. That's how it works.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Exactly. That is how it works Otherwise.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Also, if you're in the bet MGM app, you can
- 45:03Speaker 2: play the swing for the Fence's game every day all
