- 0:47Erin Gray: I think I'm going to name it If we want to buy.
- 0:50Erin Gray: We don't want to be sold to and I'm going to dive into that here in a bit, but I just wanted to check in and see how are you doing.
- 0:56Erin Gray: Where are you in the world?
- 0:57Erin Gray: I would love it.
- 0:58Erin Gray: If you know you want to.
- 1:01Erin Gray: There's a place on the show notes where you can just hit the message and you can text me.
- 1:06Erin Gray: Tell me where are you and how's it going and you know where you live.
- 1:13Erin Gray: If it's a place that you know, I love to travel, um, if it's a place that you'd be like yeah, aaron, this is totally cool place, come and visit, I would love to hear about it.
- 1:24Erin Gray: This is totally cool place, come and visit, I would love to hear about it.
- 1:26Erin Gray: So, on today's podcast, I wanted to talk about an experience that I recently had and, you know, probably over the last couple of years, I have I call it like the deconditioning process.
- 1:40Erin Gray: Right, there's so many things that I've been deconstructing in my life and rebuilding the way that I want to live and I want to, yeah, be and think and and all of the all of the things, and obviously one of them is business and over the last probably, I would say, year, really deconstructing and really thinking about, like, how do I want to build my business, and I used to have this story that I was crazy because I was the only one that felt this way and I used to think that there was something wrong with me, because I would look around or look for validation outside of myself and think, well, everyone else is doing it this way, but I don't want to do it this way, so clearly there must be something wrong with me.
- 2:26Erin Gray: And the more that I really tune into my knowing, my intuition, and I honor what I want how do I want to build my business the more convicted I have become.
- 2:39Erin Gray: And I have, you know, this, this idea that I have I don't want to say this idea, this the thing with online business that of the way that I call it old school business has been, with the way that they sell, doesn't feel good in the body.
- 3:02Erin Gray: And you know, I've asked clients and they feel the same way.
- 3:06Erin Gray: I've talked to friends and colleagues and online business and we're all feeling the same same thing.
- 3:12Erin Gray: And so I, you know if, if I'm feeling that way, other people are feeling that way.
- 3:16Erin Gray: I'm sure, probably, you know, this might resonate with you.
- 3:19Erin Gray: So, if it does, take it.
- 3:20Erin Gray: If it doesn't, you know, leave it.
- 3:22Erin Gray: When I make decisions, I'm always asking myself, like, what is the energy that I'm coming from?
- 3:27Erin Gray: Is it coming from relaxed and calm and fun and joy, or is it coming from pressured or a conditioned place, like I should, or you know?
- 3:40Erin Gray: And so I'm always checking in with the energy of you know what?
- 3:44Erin Gray: What energy am I taking this action from.
- 3:47Erin Gray: And so I was thinking about that we love to buy things.
- 3:53Erin Gray: I love to buy stuff that I want to buy, like I don't believe we need anything other than to, you know, go to the restroom.
- 4:02Erin Gray: You know drink and eat and obviously, breathe air, right, everything else is a desire, a want, and online sales sometimes feels like you need this, like there's something wrong with you and just, our culture right, our culture is is built on at least the Western society, right, it's built on.
- 4:22Erin Gray: There's something wrong with you, you need this and this will fix you Right.
- 4:26Erin Gray: And so I just want to make the blanket statement Like there's nothing wrong with any of us.
- 4:30Erin Gray: We are all whole and perfect and worthy just as we are, and we might want to buy something, but we don't need it.
- 4:37Erin Gray: So I was recently on this workshop for kind of learning more about podcasting and growing and things of that sort, and clearly I resonated with the guy because I signed up for his workshop and he seemed pretty chill, like online, and I watched him go through this process and on the workshop right, he gives value, he talks about how you know, um, how he's been able to grow his podcast and do these things and I watch him through the selling process and then we get to the end, which, of course, most workshops or webinars they're going to, to offer you to buy something, right, they, they have services.
- 5:23Erin Gray: And so he asked for permission of do you want to, you know, learn more about my services?
- 5:29Erin Gray: And, of course, in the chat box, and I don't know about you, but when people open up the chat box, I think for me it is very distracting because you have this thing going on on the side and, yes, I think sometimes it can be meant to like connect and and to, yeah, connect with other people, and sometimes it can be almost like this, feeding on this energetic place.
- 5:53Erin Gray: So he opened up the chat and people were like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, I want to know about it, I want to know.
- 5:59Erin Gray: And so he goes through and I'm going to, uh, look down because I'm I have my notes here.
- 6:04Erin Gray: So he goes through what he offers and I always think that price is really relative in the sense of it's.
- 6:14Erin Gray: It's made up, right, it's, it's a perceived value, like we don't charge something based on our actual value.
- 6:21Erin Gray: It's on the perceived value that someone right, like we make up the price and what someone is willing to pay for that price.
- 6:30Erin Gray: And so he goes through and he talks about how you know if you are signing up for this course, then this is the price.
- 6:40Erin Gray: And then he says what the value is.
- 6:43Erin Gray: And then he goes on to say you know, but I'm going to throw this, this and this in which is this value, and then that is going to be, basically you're getting and I'm air quoting for those of you listening you know, this is, this is an extra bonus that you're getting.
- 6:57Erin Gray: And I could see the, the energy of hurry up and buy now.
- 7:04Erin Gray: And so then he goes into say you know, but if you buy today, then what I'm going to do is I'm going to decrease the price by half.
- 7:14Erin Gray: So it went from like 2000 to nine 97.
- 7:18Erin Gray: And there's studies on this, you know, psychology wise, of of you pricing things below the actual like.
- 7:24Erin Gray: If it's a thousand, pricing it below that thousand mark, because your brain sees $900, it doesn't see a thousand, which I have so many thoughts on that too.
- 7:32Erin Gray: I'm just like, just make it a thousand dollars, right, like.
- 7:35Erin Gray: And and I know there's psychology behind it.
- 7:37Erin Gray: But here we go back to like these tactics that we have been taught to do so.
- 7:42Erin Gray: Then he says and if you sign up today, I'll give you the first week free, meaning if you sign up and for some reason you don't like it, then I'll fully refund your money.
- 7:54Erin Gray: So almost kind of like a guarantee proof, right, if you don't like it, there's like no risk involved.
- 8:02Erin Gray: And then he starts in and says but if you join in, the next 30 minutes I'm going to give you.
- 8:10Erin Gray: And he goes on to explain whatever that extra bonus thing that it was going to be, and he literally has a countdown timer on the screen of.
- 8:19Erin Gray: So it starts doing 30 minutes and it starts counting down.
- 8:23Erin Gray: And I just started watching this and I just started thinking about from a human design perspective.
- 8:28Erin Gray: If half of us, right, are what's called we have emotional authority, we need to ride our wave.
- 8:36Erin Gray: That doesn't allow for us to actually ride that wave.
- 8:41Erin Gray: And there have actually been several friends recently that have reached out to me that have actually said hey, aaron, you know I'm thinking of buying and they, they have emotional authority and they're like Aaron, I you know same thing, same exact example.
- 8:56Erin Gray: Right, I went to this workshop or webinar and if I buy it now, it's this price, basically half off.
- 9:03Erin Gray: But if I wait until another day or when it closes, then it's going to go up to full price and I just think we want to buy things we don't want to be sold to, and what I mean by that is we want to buy from an expansive place.
- 9:18Erin Gray: We want to have time, especially if we are emotional wave riders.
- 9:24Erin Gray: Right, we need.
- 9:25Erin Gray: We need that time to ponder the decision and not ponder as in, get in our heads and think about it, but literally get out of auric spaces of other people and allow ourselves to just be with the decision, because for us, clarity comes with time.
- 9:45Erin Gray: And, you know, you think about being on a webinar, you think about being with other people and you're in all of this other orc space, right?
- 9:52Erin Gray: Your, your energy, their energy, just like it's all feeding on.
- 9:55Erin Gray: And what does it feel like when you want to buy something and someone is helping you and and make a decision, but from a place of like, does this actually fit what you're wanting?
- 10:10Erin Gray: Right?
- 10:10Erin Gray: Sometimes the answer might be no, and buying from energy of spaciousness and kind of allowing your you to kind of come to your decision on your own right, versus selling, is selling to me feels like I'm getting something out of it versus buying is what am I providing to you and what is the client able to receive?
- 10:36Erin Gray: It's an energetic exchange.
- 10:37Erin Gray: Selling to me from that energy is very much so of like pressure and I I have a goal that I want to meet.
- 10:47Erin Gray: It feels very much one-sided versus buying is we both get to have an energetic exchange?
- 10:56Erin Gray: And you know, a friend of mine said, you know, it almost makes me second guess myself because there's so much pressure that I feel to make a decision in a short amount of time that I don't give myself that time to, you know, ask myself questions.
- 11:13Erin Gray: That am I going to use it in the way that I think I'm just there's.
- 11:16Erin Gray: There's so many things that you get to allow yourself to, to ponder and to ride that wave when you are out of the workspace, when you don't have to make a rush decision.
- 11:28Erin Gray: And I think what's so fascinating is literally the industry has come up with a term buyer's remorse.
- 11:35Erin Gray: Why does that even exist?
- 11:36Erin Gray: It exists because we get into a decision and we make it either from probably an emotional high right.
- 11:43Erin Gray: We're like oh, my goodness, like, think about buying a car.
- 11:45Erin Gray: How often a car salesman is expecting you to make a decision in the moment because you are emotionally, can be emotionally either attached or you're emotionally invested, right, like you've driven the car and you have that new car smell and, oh my goodness, you're like you're visualizing what it's going to be like driving around, you know town and just so many things, and but that's that's acting on that emotional high right Versus allowing yourself to get out of the car to go home to ponder it.
- 12:15Erin Gray: To come back, I know I mentioned this on on an episode before, but when I was thinking about buying my bike and I do have emotional authority I went and rode that bike and a couple of other bikes and then I started narrowing it down to that one specific bike and I probably rode that bike probably three or four times, um, and you know the bike was probably like $2,500.
- 12:38Erin Gray: And I I recognize that I need to be in that auric space multiple times in order to be to reach a decision, and so us having to make fast decisions and also as a business owner, if we are, you know, if you are doing this right.
- 12:57Erin Gray: This isn't a shame and and and guilt, you know thing.
- 13:01Erin Gray: This is just like, oh have have, have you actually thought about?
- 13:05Erin Gray: Do I actually want to help people buy in this way?
- 13:09Erin Gray: Or am I being prescribed or told to?
- 13:12Erin Gray: You know, sell from this place and does it feel good?
- 13:17Erin Gray: Like?
- 13:17Erin Gray: What I always come back to is like, does it feel good in the body?
- 13:20Erin Gray: Does it feel good to you know, be on a call with someone and thinking that they have to make a decision today?
- 13:29Erin Gray: Does it feel good to you know, if you buy today, then I'm going to make it 50% off, but then tomorrow it's not what has really changed and I think it's also coming from this place of basically fear, right, like we don't trust that number one people might come back after they've gotten off the call, or we don't trust that more clients are coming and if that client wasn't a good fit, then you know someone else will come.
- 13:54Erin Gray: It comes from this very fear-based place that you know.
- 13:59Erin Gray: That is how I think business has, you know, worked from for however many years, right, I do think that's changing.
- 14:07Erin Gray: I think we are evolving and we are growing our consciousness and it is coming and we are.
- 14:13Erin Gray: More of us are building businesses, growing businesses from love and expansion and a higher consciousness, but a lot of the things that we've been taught on how to help people buy is from a very fear-based place.
- 14:30Erin Gray: So I just want you to ponder and give yourself permission that how do you want to buy?
- 14:39Erin Gray: Do you want to give yourself plenty?
- 14:41Erin Gray: You know, and, depending on your different authority, like some, some of you might be able to just make a decision right there in the moment.
- 14:46Erin Gray: Right, and is this correct for me now and do I want to do this, which is fine, and also for those of you that actually need time and space to kind of let the I call it like the dust settle.
- 14:58Erin Gray: Are you giving yourself that time?
- 15:01Erin Gray: I mean, I think you know luxury is is far beyond like bags and clothes and things of that sort.
- 15:09Erin Gray: Right, like luxury to me is also like I have plenty of space, you know, in my day, or plenty of space to make a decision.
- 15:17Erin Gray: And I just want you to notice in your body, how do you feel when you feel like you're being sold to versus when you feel like you're buying, and what does that feel like in your body?
- 15:28Erin Gray: And I truly believe that, like each of us deserve to buy right, we deserve to have an amazing experience, to get our questions answered, to allow ourselves time to come to a decision that we feel so good in our bodies about.
- 15:46Erin Gray: Like I've noticed, when I make decisions from a high, more often than not I typically regret it.
- 15:52Erin Gray: Right here we go back to buyer's remorse.
- 15:53Erin Gray: But when I allow myself that time and that spaciousness to come to a decision, it feels solid in my body and so I just want to give each of you permission that you deserve to buy in such a spacious place.
- 16:13Erin Gray: I remember one of a coach of mine.
- 16:15Erin Gray: She said you know, urgency doesn't sell right.
- 16:19Erin Gray: Urgency is actually for you as the person trying to sell, versus the person like nobody needs to buy anything, and so really just allowing yourself.
- 16:30Erin Gray: If you're on the end of buying right Purchasing something, and also if you're helping someone buy what is, how do you want to show up?
- 16:39Erin Gray: How do you want to be?
- 16:41Erin Gray: What is the energy that you want to be in?
- 16:43Erin Gray: Do you want to be an expansive and loving energy?
- 16:50Erin Gray: And how that feels in your body compared to pressure and intense and you know, I think it's so often when we're in that space of fear-based it's.
- 17:00Erin Gray: You know, if I don't purchase it now, we can get into our heads versus staying in our bodies.
- 17:05Erin Gray: I would love to hear your experience on buying things versus selling things.
- 17:09Erin Gray: Like I said at the beginning, you can just send me a text message and, yeah, let's open up the conversation, as always.
- 17:17Erin Gray: Thank you for watching, thank you for listening, thank you for tuning in every week.
- 17:21Erin Gray: I appreciate you until next time.
