- 0:10Welcome back, my dear friend, to the 127th episode of Living
- 0:16Without Fear. I'm Esther Berkey, your host
- 0:19from Switzerland, and I'm so grateful that you're here with
- 0:24me today, listening with an open heart.
- 0:28You know, I always want to share with you my most personal
- 0:32stories, the ones that don't always look shiny on the surface
- 0:38but carry within them the deepest lessons.
- 0:43Because I truly believe that when we open up about our own
- 0:49struggles, we give others permission to be real too.
- 0:55So today I want to take you with me into an experience I had just
- 1:02a week ago at the Tony Robbins event in Cologne called Unleash
- 1:08the Power Within. I wasn't there as a participant.
- 1:13I was serving as a crew member together with about 500
- 1:18incredible people from all over the world.
- 1:23Together we supported more than 12,000 participants from 54
- 1:31different countries. Can you imagine the energy of
- 1:35such an arena? The excitement, the nerves, the
- 1:40breakthroughs, the tears, the laughter.
- 1:43It was electric. My wonderful body, Gladys Global
- 1:49and I had the task of taking care of a very specific area,
- 1:55making sure that only the right people entered the levels where
- 2:00the VIP boxes were located. It might sound simple, but in a
- 2:07crowd of thousands, with people moving everywhere, it required
- 2:13focus, presence, and a lot of heart.
- 2:17And then something happened that at first seemed small, just a
- 2:24little unpleasant interaction. But it's turned into a huge
- 2:30mirror for me. It shook me, it hurt me, and
- 2:34ultimately it freed me. On the very first day, there was
- 2:41a lady from the catering company who worked in our area taking
- 2:47care of coffee and refreshments for the VIP guests.
- 2:52Right away she came to us and told us in a rather unfriendly
- 2:58tone that we needed to be more attentive.
- 3:02She said too many people were slipping through from other
- 3:07levels, sneaking into the VIP space to ask her for a quick
- 3:12coffee instead of queuing downstairs.
- 3:17Her words were sharp, her tone dismissive, and though I felt
- 3:23the sting, I brushed it aside and thought, OK, maybe she's
- 3:29stressed. Maybe she just wants to do her
- 3:32job well. The next day, however, things
- 3:37escalated. Gladys and I were talking to a
- 3:41participant, a woman who was almost in tears.
- 3:47She wasn't feeling well, she was overwhelmed and we wanted to
- 3:52support her. At that moment, someone walked
- 3:57past us who wasn't supposed to be on that level.
- 4:01I noticed it, of course, but I made the choice.
- 4:06I didn't want to interrupt my conversation with this
- 4:10vulnerable participant just to play the police.
- 4:14My heart told me stay present with her, serve her in this
- 4:20moment. But shortly after, the catering
- 4:24lady stormed up to us in German. She scolded me harshly, saying
- 4:31we weren't doing our job. She couldn't understand why we
- 4:37would waste time with one participant instead of guarding
- 4:42the door. Her words cut like a knife, and
- 4:47then she added, almost like a threat.
- 4:51I will report this to my boss. A few minutes later, she
- 4:57returned with her boss at her side, and her boss, instead of
- 5:04listening, also scolded me. She told me that she too would
- 5:09report me to my boss, accusing me of not doing my job well.
- 5:17In that moment, my whole body went into shock.
- 5:23I could feel tears welling up, but I tried to hold them back.
- 5:29Their words, their tone, their judgement, it all hit me in a
- 5:35place much deeper than that moment.
- 5:39It's triggered an old story, A painful story.
- 5:45You see, in the past, in several companies I worked for, I was
- 5:51told more than once by bosses that I wasn't doing a good job.
- 5:57Even though I had tried so hard, tried to please try to do
- 6:03everything right, they still found me lacking.
- 6:08Again and again, I was made to feel that I wasn't enough, that
- 6:14my efforts didn't matter, and eventually I was asked to leave.
- 6:21So when these women stood there in front of me, criticizing me,
- 6:28telling me I wasn't good at my job, it was as if time folded
- 6:34back on itself. Suddenly, I wasn't a strong
- 6:39grown woman serving at Tony Robbins events anymore.
- 6:45I was that younger version of me again, desperate for approval,
- 6:51fighting back tears, crushed under the belief that I wasn't
- 6:56worthy. I went back to the crew room and
- 7:01by then the tears were streaming down my face.
- 7:06I felt misunderstood. I felt unworthy.
- 7:10I felt like a failure. But here's the gift.
- 7:16When we fall apart, sometimes the universe sends us exactly
- 7:23the person we need. Another crew member saw me and
- 7:28suggested I speak to one of Tony Robbins trainer.
- 7:34And that's How I Met Mia, a wonderful trainer from Denmark
- 7:39who took the time to sit with me, listen to me, and guide me
- 7:45through my pain with so much compassion.
- 7:50She reminded me of something I had forgotten.
- 7:55That no one else gets to determine my worth.
- 7:59That my value doesn't depend on whether someone sees me or
- 8:05criticizes me. That I'm worthy just by being.
- 8:12She helped me feel safe again in my body.
- 8:16She taught me that no one can enter my inner space unless I
- 8:22give them permission. And she helped me anchor the
- 8:27truth that my verse comes from within.
- 8:31Not from pleasing others. Not from the approval of bosses
- 8:36or colleagues, and certainly not from strangers speaking out of
- 8:43their own stress. I walked away from that
- 8:48conversation lighter still tender, yes, but stronger and
- 8:54incredibly grateful that this incident had happened because it
- 9:01forced me to face yet another layer of an old wound and to
- 9:08release it. So what can you learn from my
- 9:13story? Maybe you too are a people
- 9:17pleaser. Maybe you too long for your boss
- 9:21or your colleagues to finally say you did well.
- 9:26We see you. We value you.
- 9:29Maybe you're caught in that exhausting cycle of giving
- 9:34everything and still feeling like it's never enough.
- 9:39If that's you, I want you to pause and ask yourself, am I
- 9:47doing a good job right now? Am I giving my best?
- 9:53And if your answer is yes, then listen carefully.
- 9:58It's not you, it's the environment.
- 10:01If the people around you cannot see your effort, your heart,
- 10:07your dedication, then maybe they don't deserve you.
- 10:12You are not the problem. You don't need to shrink
- 10:17yourself to fit their blindness. Here's something practical you
- 10:23can try next time you feel threatened, next time a superior
- 10:30enters your space and makes you feel small, take a deep breath,
- 10:37squeeze your fingers gently together and whisper inside
- 10:42yourself. I am enough.
- 10:44I'm worthy. No one can take this away from
- 10:49me. It might sound simple, but this
- 10:54little gesture can anchor you back in your power.
- 11:00I wasn't able to do this back then.
- 11:03Every time someone told me I wasn't good enough, I fell back
- 11:08into my old story. All the therapy sessions, I
- 11:14couldn't hold it when the trigger came.
- 11:17But now I know Healing doesn't mean we never get triggered
- 11:22again. Healing means we find new ways
- 11:27to meet ourselves with love when the old wound opens.
- 11:34And maybe you've already done some inner work.
- 11:38Maybe you know how to talk to your inner child, the little one
- 11:44who was told too many times that she wasn't enough.
- 11:49Maybe you've learned to hold her, to soothe her, to whisper.
- 11:56I see you, you are safe, you're loved.
- 12:00If you can do that, then you are already so far on your journey.
- 12:07And if you're not there yet, don't despair.
- 12:12You can learn, you can grow, and I would be honoured to walk that
- 12:19path with you. So, my dear listener, remember
- 12:26this universe is not up for debate.
- 12:31It's not dependent on someone's recognition or someone's
- 12:36approval or someone's inability to see your light.
- 12:42You are worthy, you are enough, and no one, no boss, no
- 12:47colleague, no stranger can take that away from you.
- 12:54If you feel called to work on this with me, please reach out.
- 12:59I would love to help you breakthrough those old patterns
- 13:05and step into your power with ease and love.
- 13:10Thank you for letting me share this very personal story with
- 13:14you. It means so much to me to know
- 13:18that my voice reaches your heart.
- 13:23Until next week, keep living without fear.
- 13:51Yeah.
