- Amanda: What is up, guys? Welcome back to another episode of Let's Talk Football Married Edition, your favorite place for all things fantasy football, NFL hot takes, questionable decisions, and just a little bit of marital drama to keep some shit interesting. We are your hosts, Amanda Andrew, and we are back at you with another episode. We are recording this episode on August 26th. Hello. So keep in mind that that's the date this is being recorded. We'll post a little bit later. And today, super exciting, we are doing a head-to-head mock draft live with all of you so you can get a real life picture of what drafting really looks like and the decisions that are going through our heads and also how we differ when we're making selections as we go through mock drafts. I will be mock drafting from the one position and Drew will be mock drafting from the eighth position. That way you can see a split from the beginning and middle of the draft board. But Before we get into that, Drew, obviously we are now officially no longer parents to three boys. How do you officially feel after the surrogate parenthood weekend that we had this past weekend? Drew: Getting a little bit more rested. To be clear, we didn't have children before and don't have them now. In case you missed last ep in case you didn't Amanda: There are surrogate children, okay? Drew: miss the last episode, we were just babysitting for for my sister for about five days. So we went from having zero kids, which we don't have ourselves, to watching three boys under ten for five days straight. So it was very exhausting, very tiring. Loved spending time with them, but I am glad to Be sleeping in a house with just you and a little bit of peace and quiet, get a sleep in a little bit longer. So my body is finally starting to recover a little bit from a tiny bit of sleep deprivation over the last couple of days. Amanda: gosh. See, it was less about the sleep deparation. The kids are on my schedule. I'm an early human to my core. I get up at five forty five most mornings. It's my jam. It's not. It's nine o'clock, asshole. Ooh. Drew: Yeah, and your bedtime is seven thirty at night, so it all works out well. You're right. Ooh, you're just so late. Amanda: Yes, I'm a grandma, but I do like to get up early. I think the gross the boys are disgusting. They are the grossest little things I've ever witnessed. Like I was feeding the breakfast one morning and my youngest nephew, he's four, ate a bite of eggs And then proceeded to sneeze, and it came out of his nose and his mouth, and it was the most disgusting Drew: Ha ha ha. Amanda: shit I've ever seen. However, I have to tell the story because it might have been the funniest moment of maybe childhood existence. This, our our four-year-old nephew, he wanted to take a bath, but specifically, he wanted to take what he calls a shacuzzi. They have like a jacuzzi bathtub, right? And he's like, I want to take a bath. And I well, he said, I said, you want to take a bath? He's like, No. I was like, okay, you want to take a shower? And he was like, no. And I was like, I don't know what you want. He's like, I want to take a shacuzzi. And that's what apparently they call their jacuzzi bathtub, which is epic, by the way. So I go in to help him fill up this bathtub, right? And we turn the water on. I get the water right. And I'm like, wait, it's not filling up. And I look at my four-year-old nephew and I'm like, hey, you forgot the stopper on the other side of the bathtub. And just very raw and candid, okay, this kid just goes, fuck. steps and just go. I just like looked, I I I I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was like, what did you just say? It just came out of nowhere. They don't curse. They don't swear. It was just one of those moments. Just say shit. And you're just like, the kids say the funniest Drew: Yeah, yeah. There this is very it was just one of those things where kids just say they just say something just out off the wall. Amanda: shit. Yeah. And just like off the wall. Like shit that I I would have said that. Like, Fuck, I forgot it on the other side of the damn bathtub. I gotta walk my ass through this water to get it. It was the f I had to I had to leave the room because I was laughing so hard and I didn't want to reinforce him to keep saying it. So I had to leave the room and collect myself. I told Druin. He had no idea what he said. Yeah, he had no Drew: It's not even like he laughed, he had no idea, it just came out. Yep. Amanda: idea what just happened. It just like, you know, he's probably heard everyone I mean, I've everyone, you know, we cuss were adults. and so he's heard somebody say it at some point. He used it in the correct in the correct sentence and it was freaking hilarious. So Nonetheless, any news and updates for us to go over before we dive into our mock draft here? Drew: Nope, we're not gonna go over any news or updates today. We're recording a couple days ahead of time as we're traveling the end of this week, so we'll just jump right into the mock draft. Amanda: Yeah, for those of you who watched last year, obviously I did this podcast with Angela, who is my big sister. First of all, today's her birthday, which we can all say happy birthday, Angela. but also she's getting inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend. So we are traveling back to my high school to see my sister get inducted into the Hall of Fame, which I think is just royally the most badass thing ever. She was a golfer in high school. They won state two times while she was there. and then she played D one golf at Youngstown State University. So She's a badass, so we can say congratulations, Angela, and we're gonna go back and see her get inducted into the Hall of Fame. Couldn't be me. That's amazing. I love it. But that's all we got for you from news and updates, and we're gonna dive into the mock draft. I am super excited to take you guys through this process and show it to you obviously live. We are mock drafting with a 12-team half PPR league. That's going to be a single quarterback, so it's not super flex, nothing like that. this will be a one quarterback, one tight end, two running backs, two wide receivers, two flex positions. And then five bench spots. Obviously, then your typical kicker defense as well is gonna be what this mock draft is gonna be based off of, just so you're aware. I am drafting from the first position. Drew is gonna be drafting from the eighth position. And then we're gonna give you a bunch of dialogue as we go through. Cause mock drafts are great. However, you'll hear us talk about how sometimes the computer can do some funky weird shit that might not actually happen in draft day. And we'll give you a little bit of dialogue as we go through it. So I'm gonna dive right in with the first pick of the draft. feel like I need like a drum roll or some shit and I don't have one and that's okay, I can't do with my mouth. I am picking Jameer Gibbs with the Detroit Lions. Once it actually wants to populate. sorry. I thought I fucked up and picked It's that fucking serious. I thought I picked I was like, Drew: Really? You mean the computer auto drafting just scared you or just, my God Amanda: did I fuck up? Did I pick Jamar Chase? Okay. Drew: No. So right, so we had Jameer Gibbs one one. Amanda picked him. Pretty consensus, first overall. Jamar Chase, number two off the board, a little bit of a surprise. Christian McCaffrey went third overall, which is a big surprise. Again, Amanda: That shit. Drew: you we're mock drafting against some computers, so it it you know, some different things could happen, but you know, this could happen in your real draft too. He's also was the one one last year in running backs. You got Puka Nakua with a four. Bijan with the five, JT with the six, JSN seven, and then now I am up on the eighth spot. So let me see here. Do I go? You know, Amon Raw. Love him here. James Cook. Let's see. I've got four. So I've got eight picks. So one thing I'm always gonna be looking at picking at the eighth spot is how many picks do I have until it comes back around to me? There's a turn coming up. I'm kind of in the middle here. Typically don't love drafting from this area in in the past. I definitely want to be balanced, but if I look at my tiers here, running back, James Cook, Barkley, Genty. You know, I I I think it's a little too early to draft some of those guys. I think I'm just gonna go. You know what? I'm gonna go with upside here. I'm between Amon Ra CeeDee Lamb, but I'm gonna go upside with CeeDee Lamb. I think he's got the potential to be the one on one overall. so that's what I'll go with there. And then on the way back around Amanda: Put your love for Amon Ra at the at on the table, huh? You didn't Drew: I I love Almond Ross so much, but you know, honestly, just the upside of I think CeeDee this year with the Cowboys offense can just be absolutely incredible. And the draft fell exactly the way I wanted to. So we got Saquon off the board, Almond Ross St. Brown, Genti and Jefferson finishing out the first round. start of the second round, James Cook, O'Marian Hampton, Chase Brown, Derek Henry. So a little bit of a running back run here. What do you got, Amanda? I know you want to say something. Amanda: I know who you're gonna pick, just pick the damn player and move on, damn it. If you are if you're not Drew: All right. Amanda: new to the podcast, you know exactly who Drew's about to take. Drew: Yep, I am taking Kenneth Walker to be my RB one. I also think he could be the RB one on the season this year. Very high on him. Next is Amanda: You know, people on social media were really like not lovey. Not that they didn't love your Kenneth Walker love. They really were like, He was in a timeshare with Charbonnex, he'll get hurt if he's in the whole season, he's gonna get hurt. People were pissed. I'm just saying. Drew: Yeah, maybe. But also what if he's not and he Amanda: Yeah. Drew: could actually handle the workload that they never really tried to give him? What happens if they don't take goal line carries away from him? and you're in a very inventive offense with Andy Reid, who can scheme up different ways to get his players the ball that don't just involve turnaround and hand it off to a running back running straight up the middle with a terrible offensive line that Seattle had for years and get hit in the backfield. So I I'm gonna be I'm gonna Amanda: Anywhere. Drew: be on that one. Anyway, so we've got A Chan, AJ Brown, Brock Bowers, Nico Collins, George Pickens, and Drake London off the board. So now we get back to Amanda, who has two picks here. The last pick of the second round, the first Amanda: I do. So s Drew: of the third. Amanda: yeah, so since I'm at this turn, I get to go back to back. So obviously I'm looking for who I'm selecting, you know, in these next two picks, but then I'm also keeping in mind that it's going to take a fucking hot second for the draft board to get back around to me for me to be able to pick again. So I'm looking at who I want to take strategically, knowing that I might have to deviate slightly from ADP to get some of these players that I'm looking for that are going to fall in the middle of this draft. So I'm kind of looking around a little bit and thinking, like, do I want to Take a higher end onesie position here. Do I want to fill out more with running backs and wide receivers, knowing that I'm not gonna get a chance for them? Also knowing that I will be missing out on those higher end onesie positions when they circle back around to me. So when I'm toggling in my app, I'm kind of going through like positions to see where people are typically being drafted at. That way I know who I could potentially wait on. And when if I do wait on, who's gonna be there if I do choose to wait on that position quarterback tight end situation as well. So I'm looking Gosh, this is a it's hard to do in the moment, okay? But this gives you also the real feel of exactly what it feels like on draft day when you're like panicking on who you're gonna take. Drew: Sure, and here's where balance comes into play a little bit as well, right? Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: You mentioned how long it's gonna be until you can you know, you have twenty picks in between these picks or a little bit more. in between your next, you know, these two picks and then your fourth and fifth round selection. So, you know, taking a onesie is not a bad option here, but I I don't know how you don't grab a receiver here because then your number one receiver's the four twelve. So that's Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: You know, that's typically gonna be a pretty weak wide receiver one if you're taking that late in the draft. Amanda: Yeah, no, I agree. I think it's a no-brainer to at least take a wide receiver here. And also I think I can snag somebody I like deeper. All right. So we're gonna go, you know, we're just gonna commit. I committed to at least doing one elite onesie this year, and Brock Bowers didn't fall. So we're gonna go Josh Allen and snag the best quarterback in the league. And then I'm gonna sneak down a little bit, and I believe I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it. I'm going, whoo. I to look Drew: Okay, well while you're looking at that, let's see we've had Brock Bowers go, we've had Josh Allen go. no Trey McBride instead. You went Josh Allen, any particular reason? Amanda: I did. You know what? I see a regression from Trey McBride this year. I was I'm hotter on Brock Bowers than I am McBride. also just like I I don't like the offense as much as I like Josh Allen and and his dominant offense, obviously. Well, it's just Josh Allen in general. I'm a little bit worried about the Arizona offense, so that leaned me there. Right now I'm looking at wide receivers because I'm gonna take one. Drew: Sure. Who are you looking at? Amanda: You know, I I'm really leaning towards Chris Olave here, potentially going a little bit deeper into the Tet McMillan. But similar thing is I worry about the Bryce Young offense, obviously. Chris Olave didn't get hurt, right? Drew: No, go ahead. Take Amanda: No. Okay, I'm taking him. We're doing Chris Olave. Drew: All right, so off the board after Amanda's two picks, Rasheed Rice, Josh Jacobs, Malik Neighbors, Kyron Williams, Jeremiah Love, and Javante Williams. So that puts me on the board. I'm balanced right now, CeeDee Lamb and Kenneth Walker in the first two rounds, so I feel pretty free to go anywhere that I want. out of the four teams behind me that will each pick twice. There are eight selections, six of which are running back, two of receiver. So I'm expecting more receivers to go off the board before my next round, possibly quarterbacks and tight ends, but I don't expect running back to be very heavily selected. just due to the fact that there are so many that are taken so far by those teams. So again, I'm gonna play the probabilities here. I do like some of the running backs in Brees Hall, Cam Scattaboo, Travis Ech N Jr. from the Saints, spelled ETN for those of you that don't know. name change. and then that's kind of a cliff. You know, that's kind of the end of the running backs that I like for a while. but I am gonna go ahead and take, again, I'm gonna take a onesie position. I am going to go ahead and take Trey McBride here. I don't typically Amanda: He did fall. Drew: take I typically don't typically want to take a tight end this high. As you guys know, I'm very high on Tucker Kraft this year. However, late in the third round, I I I don't know how you don't take Trey McBride in that situation. So that's again being flexible of like I have a plan in place where I want to wait and get the value of Tucker Kraft a little bit later and not take a onesie early. However, if a guy falls to you and it looks like it's a smart play, go ahead and take the value. if a value presents itself, take it, especially with an elite player. what do you think about that Trey McBride pick, Amanda? Amanda: I think it's great. I I when I saw that he fell that far down, I was like, it's a no-brainer at this point. And to Drew's point, like have a plan, but if somebody falls to you, don't be dead set on fall. Like, you know, if if a Brock Bowers would have fallen to me at the turn, I would have taken him. like always commit to like knowing that like there's other guys who could pop up as an opportunity and then pivot. The only other thing I saw you potentially doing is in if you kicked your onesie position down a little bit more, is taking a wide receiver since you knew more of those would probably go since it was running back heavy ahead of you, and then circling back around and taking another running back there potentially if you wanted to just really be balanced early in the draft with those more frequent positions you'll be playing. All right, so after Drew decided to steal Trey McBride in the third, Ameka Buka went Cam Scattabu, Zay Flowers. Another quarterback was taken in Lamar Jackson. We saw T. Higgins, Tet McMillan, Brees Hall, and Devontae Smith all leave the draft board. And now Drew is up for his next pick. Right now he has a wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb, running back in Kenneth Walker, and then that onesie position, that tight end in Trey McBride. So who's next for you here, Drew? Drew: Yeah, I've got a long wait coming around. this is the long wait for me. and I'm just kind of looking forward to see who will be available in different positions when I draft again. 'cause I'm kind of in between at this moment. Like do I do I secure an R B two in a Travis Echen junior from the Saints or do I take upside with one of these receivers? And I'm gonna go ahead and take upside with one of the receivers. I've got Kenneth Walker, so I kinda like that. I can go a little hero RB. I'm gonna go ahead and take we little lad McConkey. with Amanda: little lad, huh? Drew: the upside of the McDaniels offense coming to town and if everything hits, he can be a top ten guy easily. and there wasn't a whole lot left on the board that I felt confident in that in, that they could hit the top ten. So went with Ladd. David Montgomery went next. Colston Loveland, Garrett Wilson, and Garrett Wilson was the other receiver that I was kind of looking at. Just I don't trust Geno Smith, so there's that. DeAndre Swift, Travis HN Jr., and Bucky Irving is the four eleven. So that takes us to Amanda at the four twelve and the five one. What are you thinking here? Amanda: Yeah, at this point obviously I I took that quarterback, so my my decisions are now between running backs and wide receivers. I'm going to hold off on any type of tight end situation like we talk about in so many of our episodes deeper in that draft. So I'm really just looking at yes. Drew: Yeah, don't double up on the onesies here. We talk about that. She's got a quarterback. Don't take a tight end here. And then also you're pretty balanced with Jameer Gibbs, Chris Olave, Josh Allen on the roster. So you kind of have, you know, one of the two main positions plus a onesie. so who are you looking at here? Amanda: Yeah, so I I'm looking at running back wise. I I'm liking that I see Trevion Henderson here near the top of that draft. Obviously Drew: Mm-hmm. Amanda: we have price with Seattle running back knowing that Sharps is hurt as well. That's intriguing to me. Also, worry about when Sharps does come back if we deal with more of that frustration in Seattle. But I'm actually leaning towards taking a shot there on that rookie running back and using him and and stealing maybe a deeper running back here in the draft as well. So I'm gonna go price as my running back here. And then Drew: Okay. Amanda: I'm gonna circle back and I'm definitely going wide receiver at this point. I gotta figure out who I wanna take here at the top. I would rather I'm gonna dive dive a little bit deeper. Drew: Wide receivers, wide receivers available. We've got Waddle, McLaurin, Devontae Adams, DJ Amanda: McLaurin. Mm-hmm. Drew: Moore, Jamison Williams, Luther Burton, and y I mean you can keep going down, but Amanda: Yeah. Drew: those are the the the top of the ADP on the list there. Amanda: I know it. I know it. All right. So I am looking at like I'm ruling people out immediately. Like, I I don't want to touch, you know, Mike Evans with a 10-foot pole. I like the prospects of Jalen Waddle in Denver. It makes me a little nervous. Scary Terry. I'm not healthy Jaden Daniels. I Drew: I know who I would take in this situation. Amanda: know it. I know it. All right. I'm going to. Yep. I'm going to go ahead and go scary Terry with my wide receiver pick. Drew: Okay. I think I would have went with Jalen Waddle in that situation. Amanda: You know what? Jalen Waddle injury makes me nervous and I can't get out of my brain. I know. Drew: Terry McLaurin's been hurt plenty in his career as well. But I I don't mind the McLaurin pick. I I definitely would have went them over the older guys. Amanda: Yes. Drew: and I and I would have went receiver there as well. Stay balanced, two running backs, two receivers. you got a quarterback on the on the roster already, so kicking that tight end can down the road a little bit. after McLaurin, we've got Devontae Adams, Quinn Sean's off the board, Waddle, Byshal Tutan. Very unfortunately, that's that would have been my selection coming around. I really would have loved to have Amanda: Yep. Trivion's gone too. Drew: And Travion was my backup. So the two guys that I was looking at getting are gone. I do have two receivers, a tight end and one running back. So I really wanted a running back to come back around. And of course, the two that I was looking at did not pop through, and I do not really like the guys that are left. Jalen Warren, Ramondroy Stevenson, Chuba Hubbard, Tony Pollard, RJ Harvey, Rico Dowdle. I I I'm just I'm not a big fan of A lot of these guys in this mid-range just because you know they're all in split backfields. Every single one that I have named is in split backfields. and I don't see any of them as like having the ability to take over the backfield completely because there's other exciting options that are there. so I'm going to go ahead and punt that one and wait until the turn is over. And I will continue to work on. the receiver room and pick up some more value there. Again, this is a point in the draft that I'm I'm not going to take a running back just because we're starting to get low on running backs. If I don't like them there, I'm not going to just jump ADP and pick somebody that I don't like. I'll find value later. And at this point, I'm just going to keep building on my right wide receiver room. We have two starting wide receivers and two starting flex plays. And in most circumstances, your flexes should be receivers that you're starting. Some teams, sometimes you'll have running backs, but in most leagues Receptions are worth more, so receivers then are technically more valuable than running backs. I am thinking out on DJ Moore, don't want him. Jamison Williams is intriguing with the upside, what their offense looks like. Luther Burden already being a little banked up scares me. Mike Evans scares me. You know, I'm gonna go ahead and drop down the ADP a little bit and I am gonna take Christian Watson here. I I I'm yeah, Amanda: Yeah, I had a feeling you might dive a little deeper there. Drew: little injury risk, but he is my wide receiver three, so I don't have to worry about him week in and week out. But if it hits, I think his upside is very high in that offense with consolidated targets that they have in Green Bay. Amanda: I agree. After Drew went ahead and took Christian Watson, Tyler Warren fell off the board. Joe Burrow, Jamison Williams, DJ Moore, Luther Burden, Jalen Hurts, Roma Dunze, and Mike Evans are now all officially gone. So he's back up on the pick. He still only has one singular running back. So my spidey senses would tell me he is currently looking at filling out his running back room. Now obviously he can Be hot on Kenneth Walker all that he wants, but he's got to play two running backs every single week, minimum. And we know at least one of them is gonna get hurt this year. Let's just be honest about it. Drew: You know what? I am not looking at running back here at all. Amanda: You're crazy. Drew: Nope. So this is what we call a hero R B strategy. Hero H E R O strategy. I don't I I don't go into drafts. Some people love the strategy. I don't go into any draft thinking I'm going to do the hero RB strategy. That's just kind of how it fell to me. at the eighth pick. I I just I found value everywhere else. I've liked all the picks, and then by the time I got down into the fourth and fifth round. I didn't love the running backs that were there. So guess what? I know there's guys later in the draft that I really like the upside on. And that's what Hero RB is all about is you take as long as you get somebody that you believe is elite at the top that can carry your running back room, then you punt running back down the field, and then you just load up on running backs with high potential late in the draft. And in the meantime, I'm gonna continue to hammer on the value that I get at receiver because everybody's taking the quarterbacks. tight ends are going off the board, myself being one of them, and running backs. So I'm gonna continue to take value that I see at the receiver position. and I am in the sixth round. I think it's I think it's time to take a shot. man, I love Marvin Harrison here. However, I already have Trey McBride, so I do not want to take Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison. Since I have Trey McBride, I'm hoping that he demands. a massive target share. And what I don't want to do is have another player from the same team that I'm trying to like split targets. Biggest thing also in fantasy is touchdowns, right? Both Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison can't score a touchdown in the same play. So that minimizes my potential weekly output from my players. So he's gone. I'm between Brian Thomas Jr. 'cause I love that Jaguars offense and you know Parker Washington's there as well. I like both Amanda: Mm. Drew: of them. But I think the upside of Carnell Tate as a rookie receiver for Tennessee, if Cam Ward takes that step as my wide receiver for, I think his upside is very high. Amanda: I don't mind it at all. All right, guys, I'm back on the board. I am extremely balanced right now. I've got two running backs, two wide receivers, my quarterback's already out of the way. We've already dictated that I will not be touching a tight end till much later. So basically I have my option of mid tier tight ends near the end of the draft board, because most tight ends will be gone at that point. So I'm really again just looking at what's left on the board between my wide receivers and running backs. So what I do is I'll go in and say, Okay, who who number one, who do I have already my team? What Teams do I already have drafted? Do I don't want to double up on players like Drew just said? And I want to look at high upside. I agree. I like Marvin Harrison. He's still on the board at this point. taking him at this moment seems like a dumb decision. Obviously, I've got some other options. I've got DK Metcalf. I'm really not interested in the Pittsburgh offense. We didn't see a lot of hope with DK last year. I'm not hot on that, even as a Steelers fan. I wasn't impressed with Cortland Sutton. He's on the board as well. Makai Lemon intrigues me. However, injury risk is far too high for me to risk it on that rookie. And then I go down into, you know, deeper level stuff, and I don't, I'm not interested in anyone beyond that. From a white, from a running back standpoint, I still have Stevenson on the board. Pollard, Harvey, I feel very equal with Drew. All split backfields, and I'm not happy with any of those players. However, I do have Rico Dowdle, split backfield with Jalen Warren, J.K. Dobbins. Lead back for Denver, obviously barring any injuries. So my decisions here is I'm gonna go Marvin Harrison as my wide receiver. And then I am gonna go ahead and jump down and take DK or I'm sorry, JK, not DK Dobbins, JK Dobbins off the board as well here and round out my my draft here with another wide receiver and another running back again, staying incredibly balanced at this point. Drew: All right, after the two picks by a man on the turn, we've got Tony Pollard, Jaden Daniels, Caleb Williams, Jordan Tyson, Ramondre Stevenson, and DK Metcalf off the board. That brings Amanda: Didn't Jordan Tyson fully get hurt? Like he's done. Drew: Not for the year, but it's a couple of months. Yeah, yeah. He he's Amanda: okay, okay. Drew: not gonna play in the beginning of the year. Amanda: Okay, okay. I'm just gonna make the commentary then that like I wouldn't waste my seventh round draft capital on a guy who's not playing for the first two months of the year. Drew: Yeah, I I think in most leagues, it just depends. Like if you're in a knowledgeable league, one where everybody's been playing fantasy and kind of knows what's going on, I would imagine that he's gonna drop a little bit further. Great Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: potential, but if he's out for six to eight games, that that's a lot of the season. if you're playing in a league that doesn't have people that follow football that well and they're picking mostly on ADP Then he'll probably go in that range, and I'm not willing to take him that high because he's gonna miss too many games. Amanda: Agreed. Drew: All right, top guys on the board here, couple tight ends, already have one and wouldn't take them anyway. quarterback, I you know what, I'm still gonna wait on quarterback. Justin Herbert's here. You know what? I might have opened my mouth a little bit too early. Amanda: Mm, I was gonna say you do have Ladd up there too. Drew: Yeah. So okay, so this is one where I am going to not take a quarterback in this one and I'll explain my decision here. All right. So I have the top two quarterbacks in ADP on the board right now, Justin Herbert and Dak Prescott. I like both of them, and I have a receiver from both of those teams. I've got CeeDee Lamb from the Cowboys. That's Dak's number one target. And I have Ladd McConkey, who should be the number one target for Justin Herbert. So When you pair a quarterback and a receiver on the same team on your team, it's called a stack. Very valuable. So if Dak and CD, if CD has a good game, that typically means Dak's gonna have a good game. So this is how your fantasy team can explode for very large weeks. We're talking the 160 plus weeks, point weeks. It's a lot of times there's a stack involved. If CeeDee goes for two touchdowns and has thirty-five fantasy points, well Two of those touchdowns are also going to be DAX. So now every touchdown they throw to each other, instead of being worth six points, is worth 12 points when it happens. Because you get both the passing and the receiving from it. same for Justin Herbert. So either one of those I love a lot. The reason I'm not going quarterback here is this is knowing the draft board, right? So there are four teams that are drafting after me that will each get two picks before we come back around to my pick. So if we look, three of those teams already have quarterbacks, which means One of the two quarterbacks, either Dak or Justin Herbert, should make it back to me with my next pick, and I'm okay with either one of them. I don't have one, you know, incredibly high compared to the other one. I would prefer Dak, but both are great. So I am gonna look at running backs here. RJ Harvey, Rico Dowdle, Jonathan Brooks, Manungai, Corum. you know what? Man, it's gonna get late quick if I don't. Take one Amanda: have a feeling that like I know what you might do, but also it would be a little bit interesting. Drew: So like I if this is A lot of people need depth. If this wasn't against computers, I probably don't take a running back here. but it is, and I'm afraid that I'm not gonna get a running back Amanda: You're psychotic. Drew: coming around. So I am gonna go ahead and take the upside ch We're gonna take Jonathan Brooks. Take the upside of Jonathan Brooks. Hope he takes over that backfield. Amanda: Interesting. I actually thought you might go JCM, so that's interesting. Anyway. A lot of injuries in Washington right now. Drew: That was the other one. So I I was looking I was looking between Jonathan Brooks and Jakori Krosky Merritt. I I I yeah, I I like both of them. I just I don't know. I I just went Brooks. I I think I could have went either one and made a Yep. All right. Amanda: Yeah. Yeah. I get a high upside on both guys. Yeah. I agree. Off the board after Drew went, Jonathan Brooks. We saw RJ Harvey fall off the board. Both of those tight ends, Kyle Pitts and Harold Fannon, Cortland Sutton, Makai Lemon, Kyle Manungay, Michael Wilson, and one of his quarterbacks, Justin Herbert, which kind of now makes it almost a little bit of a no-brainer option if he wants to go quarterback. He kind of let Dak fall right into his lap, let the draft pick that one for him, basically, and make the decision a little bit easier. Also, if I didn't pick running backs for this long, I would have unrelenting anxiety that I would not be able to control. So. Drew: Yeah, this is honestly I would love to not take Dak here and pick up Jakori Krosky Merritt because he made it around. And then I would feel much better about my running back room having Kenneth Walker and then having Brooks and and and Bill there. because then I just need one of them to, you know, splitting my odds, you know, you don't put all your eggs in one basket, and right now I have them all in the Jonathan Brooks can become my RB two basket. And there are Only two other teams that don't have quarterbacks, team seven and team two. The only downside is I do not want to give up the stack. and I don't have that backup of the secondary stack. So I'm gonna go ahead and take Dak Prescott here. be smart about Amanda: I agree. Drew: it. Yeah, I think it's the right pick. Dalton Kincaid, Rico Dowdled, Trevor Lawrence, Blake Corum. George Kittle, Jackson Dart off the board. And I believe that that was Amanda's target would have been George Kittle right there. Am I correct in saying that? okay. Amanda: No, actually I'm I'm I'm waiting a long time. I I for a minute consider it a little Dalton Kincaid action in my life. I just didn't want to have to take him that early. however been outstanding, correct. Yeah. Drew: The upside of Kittle, if he would have made it to you though, would have been very intriguing because it's you've waited a long time and he has the ability once he gets back, he should be back to a ten to twelve point per week guy, which is a top five tight end. Yes. So you gotta Amanda: Back to crazy ass George Kittle. Yeah. Drew: wait a little bit until he gets, you know, fired up. But I think that would have been fantastic value in Amanda: Yeah. Yeah. Drew: the in the eighth round end of the eighth. Amanda: This honestly gives me a no-brainer. I really like JCM. Lots of injuries that have come out from the Washington backfield that has made it a little bit more apparent that he's going to get a lot of that work while other people can come back from injuries. So I am taking JaCoy Krosky Merritt here. And then I'm going to actually circle back and go ahead and take a wide receiver as well. And I'm going to pick take my bets on Chris Godwin. Umeka Buka's been dealing with that. suspected turf toe issue and I'm gonna take the bets that Chris Godwin becomes a very, very nice target for me. And I've got time for my tight end. I'm not worried. Drew: Yep, and this is perfect, right? Like if you don't get one of those top tight ends, you know, one of our big tips and tricks this year is, you know, do not take a middle round tight end. I love that you didn't take another one there. because now you and with those two picks, taking a running back and a receiver, you now have very good balance. You've got four running backs, you've got four receivers. You know, Gibbs, he's an every every week guy. Jarion Price, you're hoping, but he's a rookie. And once Sharps come back, What's that split look like? So then you're also, you know, JK, a little bit of a early season, Amanda: Injury risk? Yep. Drew: but he's got an injury risk and Crosky Merit. He's an unknown. He's a potential breakout, or he could just be a dude, right? He could just be a jag Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: and not not do much. But now that you've got three different options there for your RB RB two, it's fantastic. And from a receiver standpoint, Olave should be great. Still has the concussion risk that he's had forever. Terry McLaurin, injury risk. Marvin Harrison, is he that dude? And Chris Godwin been hurt multiple times, but now you've spread that risk out to high upside for four guys, and you've spread the risk out. So I I love your draft so far. Yep, now we've gotten back to my pick. We've had Amanda: I like yours too. Drew: Pittman, Rams defense going in the ninth round way too early. Travis Kelsey, Amanda: Yeah. Drew: Jordan Mason, which really sucks because that would have been my pick. Jordan Addison Amanda: Mm. Drew: and Matthew Stafford off the board. That leaves me. and a little rundown of my roster, I have CeeDee Lamb, Ladd McConkey, Christian Watson, and Carnell Tate at receiver, Kenneth Walker and Jonathan Brooks at running back, a little light there. And Dak Prescott at quarterback, Trey McBride at tight end. And again, not even looking at defenses and kickers until the last two or three rounds. It'd be a wasted pick here. desperately needs some running back depth at this point. What do we got in the hopper here? Bunch of receivers that I like and a bunch of running backs that I don't. Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: I am gonna go ahead and punt running back another round. So this again, I need running backs, definitely need depth. If I'm looking at if I'm Amanda: Somebody give me a fucking Xanax. Jesus. Drew: if I'm looking at when I'm pick who I'm picking now, where the ADP is and you know, who should be available at my next pick, the the top two running backs in ADP are Kenny Gainwell and Aaron Jones. I don't love them. If I go a little bit further, there's Rashad White, don't really love him. If I keep going even further down the list, we get to Chris Rodriguez, Tyler Algier, guys that I like a little bit more. And honestly, I would rather have a receiver now and Chris Rodriguez than I would have, you know, Kenny Gainwell and have to wait on some of these receivers because I I like some of the ones that are a little bit higher here. you know, on the board here. Alec Pierce is up on the top of the list. I think his upside is is high. I personally have him as a bust because of the injury. However, I'm so late in the draft that in the ninth round I I don't care about the injury risk as much. Jaden Reed, great, love him. good value here, I think, but I already have Christian Watson, Quentin Johnston, he would be a hammer pick for me. Unfortunately, I already have Ladd McConkey, so I'm not gonna take him. a little bit further down, Wandale Robinson. I like him at this range. Unfortunately, I already have Carnell Tate, not gonna double up there on the Tennessee receivers. Matthew Golden, same thing, not gonna double up on the Packers receivers. So I am gonna go ahead and take Alec Pierce here, go for the upside. And again, I have enough receiver depth on my team that I can afford myself for him to stay out for four, five, six weeks and still be okay. Amanda: Absolutely. Yeah. No, I agree. At this point, you're looking more at like potential high boom bust upside, too. After he did go ahead and snag Alec Pierce, which love him. Don't think he's a bust. We have Patrick Mahomes, Jaden Reed, KC Conception. That is a very fucking fun name name to say. Drew: Mm-hmm. Amanda: Kenny Gainwell, which his name really is Kenny. I thought it was Kenneth, like full blown Kenneth. I didn't think it was Kenny at all. Nonetheless, Kenny Gainwell gone. Aaron Jones, Josh Downs, Quentin Johnston, Jake Ferguson, and now Drew is back up on the board. And yeah, go ahead and freak me out. What are you gonna do now? Drew: I will take a running back here. I'm going to take Chris Rodriguez. Yep. Coming over to Jacksonville Amanda: you're gonna take Chris. it's a good pick. Drew: from Washington. And look, he's not a flashy name, but we don't know. He will be in a 50 50 timeshare with himself and Byshal Tutan to start the year, especially with LaQuent Allen, who was is a second year player. He was gonna be their third down guy. He got hurt in training camp. So Chris Rodriguez will be the short yardage guy. should be the goal line back and you know if he runs hard and and keeps up the four plus yards per carry that he had last year, well that he's had for his entire career, I I think he'll be just fine. Amanda: Yeah, don't mind that at all. I'm looking obviously at draft board now. I just kinda took a peek up to see like obviously I still need a tight end. I do not have one yet. I kinda took a peek up to see, you know, who all has one at this point. Now, obviously we're using the computer to draft, so you might see someone take a second tight end. That doesn't never happen in real life drafts. It just doesn't typically happen in real life drafts. So I just am taking a gander to see like, hey, who already has These tight ends and could potentially risk it for the biscuit and just punt that one more round and just take my last pick before defense and kicker as my tight end. If I wanted to really double up on some high upside wide receivers, I don't have any running backs here in this range that I'm feeling all that excited about. Rashad White, I don't want to take a risk on injury. I already have JCM as well. I'm not hot on Tyler Algier. Zach Charbonnet, obviously injured. I have the other Seattle running back. Tyrone Tracy, no thank you. Woody Mark's really not interested. Coleman with Denver. That's the only name that intrigues me slightly if JK were to go down, but I don't really want to handcuff myself there. I don't think it's necessary. so I'm looking at two wide receivers. Jacoby Myers is still on the board. That gives me a piece of the Jacksonville offense. We still don't know who's gonna be the breakout star there. It could be him and Matthew Golden. I would love a piece of the Green Bay offense. Drew: Mm-hmm. Amanda: And then obviously I I still have some some tight end options down, and if I really need to, I can just. Stream those every week. So I'm gonna go ahead and pick two wide receivers. Jacoby Myers, Matthew Drew: Wow. Amanda: Golden are now on my team. Fuck the tight end position, Drew: I I like the t Amanda: baby. Drew: I I like the I like the du I like the two receivers you picked. I I absolutely would have taken Dallas Goddard right there because I have him Amanda: Dallas Goddard, I get it. But you think really team six would have picked Dallas Goddard if they already have Loveland? Drew: Mark Andrews went right after your pick, so you lost both Andrews and Goddard. Amanda: Yeah, I I figured I would. Drew: Possibly not, but I definitely would have taken him there. Amanda: Yeah, in that moment I just can't pass up on but I I want both of them. So screw it. I'll just risk it for the biscuit and figure out something else down the line here. It'll buff, it'll buff. Drew: That's fine. Unfortunately, Deshaun Stribling went off the board. That was who I was going to target here. rookie receiver for Amanda: Ugh, that's a good one. Drew: the 49ers. I would have loved to have him in the eleventh round as a flyer. Again, we're we're in the double digit rounds at this point. It's depth. So what I'm looking for is high potential upside breakout type players. Or if my depth is very poor at one position, like it is at running back, then I need to to add some running back depth, but I'm still looking for guys that have an opportunity to play. So if I look at the running backs on the board, Tyler Algier, he's still gonna get work, even though they brought in Jeremiah Love, who is also dealing with a bit of an injury. Tyrone Tracy, Woody Marks, Jonah Coleman, Alvin Kamara, Mike Washington. there's just a bunch of guys I'm I'm looking for who could truly take over and either carve out a role or has the entire backfield to himself if someone gets injured. and then if I look at receivers, Romeo Dobbs, Xavier Worthy, Debo Samuel, nobody's really jumping out that I need to snag right now. So I am gonna go ahead and take Gonna go ahead and take Jonah Coleman, rookie for the Denver. He's a running back. We'll see. Amanda: Mm-hmm. I like it. I I that was one of my I have a good feeling about potentially I'm not we're not big believers in RJ Harvey. We know obviously the high injury risk of JK Dobbins. And also, yeah, also Drew: No. And JK, yep. And Jonah Coleman should get goal line work, so get some goal line work. Amanda: he loves to switch out his running backs often. So like it's a thing we've seen them used often in in the offense. So yeah. Yes, that's true. Drew: Unless somebody proves themselves to be very good and then he'll stick with them. So hopefully that's Jonah Coleman. Amanda: After Jonah Coleman, we saw Xavier Worthy, Brock Purdy, Tyler Algier. we saw Brandon Aubrey kicker go off the board. Don't do that. Okay. Woody Marks, Romeo Dubs, Tyrone Tracy, Eagles defense. Like, I get taking, you know, one of those elite defenses, but I just don't think you waste your upside here. Yeah. Drew: Yeah, you're gonna start getting you're gonna start getting a lot of defenses and kickers come off the board. Amanda: In my opinion though, like if you're gonna take like a high end, you know, i Texans defense or something i in the twelfth round, sure, I'm not gonna poo poo on you, but not in the Drew: Yeah. So in in in Amanda: freaking t or the chart Rams in the ninth, like the wasted Drew: Yeah. Amanda: pick. Drew: I wouldn't do it, although it that's going to happen. In most leagues you're gonna have defenses go too early and you're gonna have kickers Amanda: People Yes. You're right. Drew: go too early. Just don't be one of those that does that. but Amanda: If there's one position you can confidently wait on, pick your kicker last. Pick your kicker last. I think that's the one that like that's not yes, every now and then kickers have breakout 20 point weeks and like you know, you can get a Chris Boswell where the fucking Steelers can't score a touchdown, all they do is kick field goals. But like I'm not building my team around a kicker winning my league. I'm building my team around my wide receivers, running backs winning my league for me. Drew: So far, I have one, two, three, four, five receivers, and four running backs on the roster. I am looking at who's available. Debo's at the top of the ADP. Don't love that. Shakir, Coker, a couple tight ends. Oddly enough, a little intrigued by Kyler Murray here, although that would be a second quarterback that I don't think I need here. so I am gonna come down. And Ooh, let me see. Assuming that he suffers mild setback. Blah, blah, blah. I'm gonna go ahead and take Keaton Mitchell here, running back for the Los Angeles Chargers. He is the backup to Omarion Hampton. I think Omar and Hampton's gonna have a great year this year. but Keaton Mitchell is very fast and Amanda: Yeah. Drew: Mike McDaniel loves speed, so I think they'll does I think Keaton Mitchell, assuming he gets healthy, will get a couple touches a game regardless of Hampton's health. But if Hampton goes down, that speed in that type of offense can work very well. So I'm gonna go ahead and take him and guess after a week or two, if he's not even seeing the field, I can always drop him and pick somebody else up off the waivers at this point. So might as well Amanda: Yeah. Drew: take a shot. Amanda: Absolutely. All right. Well, I am going to officially pick a tight end at this point. And options at the top of the board I don't like. So I'm not taking a Ronde Gaston. He's had a lot of negative reports come out from training camp and preseason that they just he hasn't been as productive as they want him to be. I'm not really interested in him, in my opinion. I'm actually gonna do a little something. I'm gonna I'm gonna reach a little bit deeper down the board. Juwan Johnson is still on the board. I could likely probably just pick him up in free agency, but I'm gonna take him Mostly because we know Jordan Tyson did get injured and he is going to miss time. Juwan Johnson was a part of that offense consistently already. And I do believe he will consistently now be elevated more in a very fast-flying offense. So I'm gonna go ahead and go a little bit down and pick Juwan Johnson off the board, believe it or not, as my tight end. And then again, if I need to stream that position week to week, I will. Hold that down the road. And maybe later in the year a tight end emerges and I can waiver wire the ever living shit out of them and use them as a more consistent option. But I'm not scared to stream my tight ends based on high-end tight end matchups week to week. I've done it most of my fantasy football career and it works out just fine. From there, again, I have three more picks left. So at this point, I can, I'm gonna go one more high upside guy and look at both my wide receiver and running back room to see who's there that I might. Be intrigued by in their overall offensive scheme here. running back room, I have Kamara. I'm not interested there. I have Washington with the Las Vegas Raiders. He is a rookie this year. I've got Tank Bigsby with Philadelphia, which is slightly intriguing if Saquon Barkley were to go down. He is the clear lead back that would take over the backfield. So, like that does make me a little bit excited. We've seen Tank be effective as well, he's not a nobody. So I'm really leaning between Tank and I'm also looking at actually Rasheed Shahid with Seattle. We saw Shahid make a little bit of a splash last year. He got traded later in the year. This will be his second year with the offense. Obviously, I'm not a lover of all things Sam Darnold and his overall consistency. So I think I'm actually going to go ahead. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and take Tank Bixby with the Philadelphia Eagles off the board here and give me a little. Cushion for the push in just in case something were to happen and I needed an another option there. Drew: Very nice. After that, Kyler went off the board. Khalil Shakir, Cam Little, Jalen Coker, Jake Bates, and Aronde Gadston, which puts me on the board. And this look, I have three picks left. This is where I'm going to jump everyone that's behind me. And I'm I am going to go ahead and take a defense here. Biggest reason is four teams behind me each draft twice, one of them has a defense. I know that they are going to take defenses in one of these next two picks and then probably a kicker on the last round. So what I'm going to go ahead and do because I like, you know, I don't want to get jumped by three different defenses. and if there's one that I I I truly like, I'm going to go ahead and jump up and take them. And with that being said, you got Patriots is the highest on the board. don't love the fact that they're playing a tougher schedule this year. So I'm going to Pass them up. Vikings put a lot of draft capital. they're in a very tough division. Jaguars are there, Chargers are there, but I am gonna go ahead and drop down and unfortunately I'm gonna take the Steelers defense. They were Amanda: I almost said I was like, There's no way he's gonna take the Steelers defense, right? Drew: They were supposed to be a very good defense last year. They have a lot of talent there. They still have TJ Watt. And more importantly, they're Amanda: Aww my boy Drew: playing aga they play against the Cleveland Browns twice this year, which means they are going to have a field day. And I'm going to go ahead and select them, even though I don't feel great about it. But I didn't want to get jumped. Patriots did go off the board. Vikings went off the board. So we have some more defenses. two picks left. I need a kicker in a bench spot. That kicker is gonna wait till the end. So I am going to take somebody with upside here at the running back or receiver position. Mike Washington, rookie running back from Las Vegas is a possibility here because Ash and Jensi is a little banged up. And also Clint Kubiak is now the head coach of the Raiders. You would assume that Ashton Jensi will get all the work. However, Kenneth Walker didn't get all the work and Kubiak was the offensive coordinator there last year, so it just depends on whose decision that was to put Charms on the field. Amanda: I like where your Drew: Yep. Amanda: mind's at. Drew: anybody else? You've got Omar Cooper, rookie for the Jets, but then you're messing with Geno Smith again. Travis Hunter, Amanda: Mm. Drew: not into that. you know what Amanda: yardia, yeah. Drew: I'm gonna do here? I I do like Washington the running back, but what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna come down the board here and I'm gonna look at a Miami running back. Amanda: Wide Drew: excuse me, a Miami receiver, Amanda: receiver. Drew: wide receiver, I'm gonna do Malik Washington. If he can be the number one receiver on even a bad team, if he can consolidate some targets, it's still valuable, especially down in the fourteenth round. And guess what? If a week or two in the season he's getting two targets, three targets a game, I'm gonna drop him and pick up somebody else on the waiver wire that has had a strong start to the season. So Amanda, you are on the board. bunch of dudes went off the Amanda: Yep. I Drew: board late. who are you looking at and your final two picks? Amanda: You know, I'm looking obviously I'm gonna, you know, defense kicker. I wanted I knew that there was one team left without a defense and was hoping that maybe they wouldn't pick the Jacksonville Jaguars, mostly just because the Jags play Cleveland week one. and love to see a little interception action there. Yeah. At this point Drew: Well, Deshaun Watson. Yeah. He's gonna throw at least one. Amanda: yeah, at this point when I'm looking at defenses, I'm kind of pulling up and looking at their first like three, four games. Just to see, like, hey, who has the best few matchups that I think are, you know, offensively, they're they're playing a team that's gonna struggle and maybe throw some interceptions. so ultimately, you know, Packers look the most intriguing to me. We week one Minnesota. Not super excited about that one, but right after that, we've got the Jets and we've got Atlanta. We've got two different quarterbacks in those scenarios that typically are a little prone to turnovers. So I'm gonna go ahead and take the Green Bay Packers defense as my defense, and then I'm gonna snag Drew: Love it. Amanda: a kicker. And honestly, when I choose a kicker, I'm just looking at the top of the draft. Who do I think is gonna kick a lot of field goals and who's at the top of the freaking draft board? I don't know enough about goddamn kickers to care that much. there's one kicker who I refuse to take, and I won't take Buddy Butker with a ten foot effing pole. I don't care. so I'm just gonna go ahead and snag me some Evan McPherson and we're good to go. We're Denzo. Drew: First of all, that is wild that you just took Evan McPherson. because who I just got a draft, Mr. Chris Boswell himself. If you pay s pay attention, pay attention, Amanda: Chrissy You know what? You know what though, Chris Mr Boswell started to struggle a little bit. Drew: look a little bit further down that list, and then all of a sudden you see Yeah. They can't score touchdowns anyway. Amanda: My boss. Well, it's all right. It's all right. Evan McPherson, welcome to the team. Hey, don't speak the bad juju into the into the universe. All right, guys. We're gonna review our teams before we're done here. so I ended up here with Jameer Gibbs, or I'll say running backs. Running backs ended up with Jameer Gibbs, Jadarian Price, JK Dobbins. Jacroy, Krosky, Merritt, or JCM for short, and Tank Bigsby, five running backs on my team. My quarterback is Josh Allen. My tight end is Joan Johnson. And then my wide receiver room, I have Chris Olave, Terry McLaurin, Marvin Harrison, Chris Godwin, Jacoby Myers, Matthew Golden. I have the Green Bay Packers as my defense and Evan McPherson as my kicker. Drew: Alrighty, I have at quarterback Dak Prescott, running backs Kenneth Walker, Jonathan Brooks, Chris Rodriguez, Jonah Coleman, and Keaton Mitchell. At receiver, I have CeeDee Lamb, Ladd McConkey, Christian Watson, Carnell Tate, Alec Pierce, and Malik Washington. I am running Trey McBride out there at tight end and kicker Chris Boswell with the Steelers defense paired together. so that's my lineup. from the eight spot. it was a fun time. I enjoyed the mock draft. What do you think? Amanda: It was a great time. Now you have a little bit of an example for just how we're drafting from two very different draft spots. Obviously, from you know, the one and the eight, right in the middle of that round. Hopefully, giving you guys a little bit of thought process for what we're thinking about, what we're looking at on the draft board, how we're making some of these decisions as we go into the draft. That way you can feel fully prepared as you walk into your draft day. You can let us know in the comment section of this video who you think has the better team. The clear answer is myself and I won't take any other opinions. But nonetheless, you can give me yours anyways. I just will choose to not listen to them. But that's all we got for you guys today. Obviously, like we always say, make sure you subscribe, whether that be on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music, so you never miss a podcast episode. Obviously, early season, we're giving a little bit more episodes. We're gonna have structure as we get into in season, which we will be announcing very soon. So you know exactly what to expect and when from us. We'll have a few more episodes here before you draft. Hopefully your commissioner doesn't hate you and you're drafting next weekend, not this weekend, because all of the injury issues are still coming on out. This is why we wait until Labor Day weekend to draft. But sending you all the good luck if you're drafting this weekend, and we'll talk to you guys soon. Bye. Drew: Peace.
