- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast, your home for
- 0:06Speaker 1: deer hunting news, stories and strategies, and now your host,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Mark Kenyon. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast. I'm
- 0:15Speaker 1: your host, Mark Kenyan, and this is episode number two
- 0:19Speaker 1: four and today, like we are every week on Wednesday's,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we're back with another RUT Radio episode in which we're
- 0:25Speaker 1: catching you up on the latest deer and RUT related
- 0:28Speaker 1: reports from across the country, getting you the info on
- 0:30Speaker 1: the conditions, the dear behavior and the tactics need to
- 0:33Speaker 1: know right now. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast,
- 0:48Speaker 1: brought to you by Onyx, and we are here for
- 0:51Speaker 1: our weekly RUT radio mini series. It's me and Spencer
- 0:55Speaker 1: and we're gonna do what we do every Wednesday, which
- 0:58Speaker 1: is walk you through a series of reports from hunters
- 1:01Speaker 1: across the country to get us an idea of what's
- 1:04Speaker 1: happening right now in the White Tail woods. What kind
- 1:06Speaker 1: of deer activity um, what kind of tactics are working,
- 1:09Speaker 1: How is the weather and other conditions present influencing deer
- 1:13Speaker 1: movement and hunting. Basically everything you need to know to
- 1:16Speaker 1: make sure that your next few hunts are going to
- 1:17Speaker 1: be successful. That's what we're gonna try to get you today,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and Spencer, I don't know about you, but anecdotally looking
- 1:26Speaker 1: across the country, just from like my social networks and
- 1:30Speaker 1: stories and then also a little bit of my own observation,
- 1:33Speaker 1: I feel like the last seven to ten days have
- 1:36Speaker 1: been one of the better mid October time periods that
- 1:39Speaker 1: I can remember. Do you feel the same way. I
- 1:43Speaker 1: feel like I've seen a lot of deer hitting the ground. Um,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I don't know if I've seen it like super isolated
- 1:50Speaker 1: to a couple of days stretch like we did, uh
- 1:53Speaker 1: two weekends ago, so like I think it was October fourteen.
- 1:59Speaker 1: In that time period. The episode before that, people were
- 2:02Speaker 1: predicting that there'd be a lot of deer moving around
- 2:04Speaker 1: because of the approaching cold front, and that seemed to happen.
- 2:07Speaker 1: There were a ton of deer killed that weekend. Since then,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'd agree that I've seen a lot of bucks killed,
- 2:13Speaker 1: But I don't know about like that really tight couple
- 2:16Speaker 1: day window like we maybe saw a few weeks ago. Yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: that was definitely the best. I think that that when
- 2:21Speaker 1: that front hit, that was awesome. But from that like
- 2:23Speaker 1: about to about like a couple of days ago, it
- 2:25Speaker 1: just seemed like it seemed like my Facebook feed looked
- 2:29Speaker 1: like November compared to most of towers octobers, you're just
- 2:33Speaker 1: not seeing that many of them hitting the ground. It
- 2:35Speaker 1: just seemed like, Wow, people were having a lot of success,
- 2:37Speaker 1: So that was exciting to see. Um, what what are
- 2:42Speaker 1: we hearing? Though? Do you have any can you give
- 2:44Speaker 1: me any kind of trend as far as what your
- 2:47Speaker 1: reports have given us for this coming week or what
- 2:49Speaker 1: they've been hearing. So let's back up, Like two episodes ago,
- 2:52Speaker 1: people were really excited for the approaching cold front, so
- 2:55Speaker 1: we were hearing some super optimistic numbers. Last week things
- 2:58Speaker 1: that kind of tapered off in what you'd expect for
- 3:02Speaker 1: mid October as far as predicting on a scale one
- 3:05Speaker 1: to ten what they think the buck activity would be.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And this week we're climbing back up again where people
- 3:10Speaker 1: are optimistic. However, I wouldn't say it's like it was
- 3:13Speaker 1: a few episodes ago where uh people were feeling that
- 3:17Speaker 1: the cold front coming through and we're excited about the
- 3:19Speaker 1: pressure changes and stuff like that. And it's also not
- 3:22Speaker 1: like last year. If you recall last year, Mark, Uh,
- 3:24Speaker 1: we had some just perfectly time cold fronts if you
- 3:28Speaker 1: took your calendar and circle days where you wanted cold fronts,
- 3:31Speaker 1: we got them. Um, this year is not the same thing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I don't see any cold fronts in like the Great
- 3:36Speaker 1: Planes approaching anytime soon. And uh, the hunters that we
- 3:41Speaker 1: talked to this week don't address that either. So the
- 3:44Speaker 1: optimism that you're gonna be hearing and the confidence that
- 3:47Speaker 1: people feel about the buck movement picking up, that's because
- 3:50Speaker 1: we're approaching November, not so much because there's a specific
- 3:55Speaker 1: moon phase, weather pattern, pressure change, UM, food stay it
- 4:00Speaker 1: is something like that that's kind of driving those deer
- 4:03Speaker 1: to get on their feet. Yeah, that's an interesting point.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And UM to that point, I just looked at my
- 4:09Speaker 1: like two week forecast for here in Michigan, and what
- 4:14Speaker 1: we have coming up is very stable weather. It doesn't
- 4:19Speaker 1: seem now. Of course, this could change drastically, but as
- 4:22Speaker 1: of right now, they're predicting almost the same general temperatures
- 4:25Speaker 1: for highs and lows for the next two weeks. So
- 4:28Speaker 1: that typically would be something that I wouldn't be as
- 4:30Speaker 1: excited about, right because sometimes we tend to see that
- 4:33Speaker 1: there's some some increases in movement around those changes in
- 4:36Speaker 1: temperature around those fronts moving through and you'll get this
- 4:38Speaker 1: burst of activity, um for the next two weeks. I'm
- 4:41Speaker 1: not seeing that. But on the bright side, at least
- 4:45Speaker 1: here where I'm at, it seems like that temperature is
- 4:48Speaker 1: going to be holding below average temperature the whole way,
- 4:51Speaker 1: So we don't have any of these warm fronts like
- 4:53Speaker 1: these dreaded late October early November warm fronts that we
- 4:56Speaker 1: seem to get every year where there's a few days there,
- 4:59Speaker 1: you know, for us here Michigan, if we get a
- 5:00Speaker 1: couple of days over seventy or in the high sixties,
- 5:02Speaker 1: that's like a huge suppressor of writing activity. At least
- 5:07Speaker 1: right now, knock on wood, I don't see that coming
- 5:09Speaker 1: that way. So, UM, it's gonna be interesting to see
- 5:11Speaker 1: how that influences things. If we're just gonna have this
- 5:13Speaker 1: kind of steady movement that slowly tapers up as writting
- 5:16Speaker 1: activity tapers up, um, since we don't have a big
- 5:19Speaker 1: front that's going to come through and hit you know,
- 5:21Speaker 1: the accelerator. UM. But I guess I guess, as I'm
- 5:25Speaker 1: saying all this, I'm not going to complain because I'll
- 5:27Speaker 1: take forty five to fifty degrees any day of the week. Um,
- 5:31Speaker 1: any time of year usually it's not too bad. So, um,
- 5:35Speaker 1: what's the point of me saying all this? I don't know.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'm just kind of rambling as I think about this weather.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It's got me excited. Um for forty five degrees on
- 5:41Speaker 1: October thirty one, I'll be hunting the Holy Field property
- 5:43Speaker 1: next to that point. I think there's a few things
- 5:46Speaker 1: you can take away from that. One is that, uh,
- 5:49Speaker 1: you don't have to feel pressure to like be out
- 5:52Speaker 1: there on a weekday necessarily where uh if we did
- 5:55Speaker 1: have a cold front coming up, like next Wednesday, you'd
- 5:58Speaker 1: feel super guilty for not being enter tree stand on
- 6:01Speaker 1: October thirty one with a cold front coming through. You
- 6:05Speaker 1: know that. Uh you know, October November three are probably
- 6:09Speaker 1: gonna hunt very similar to you know, like a midweek
- 6:12Speaker 1: day when there's no cold front. The other thing to
- 6:14Speaker 1: consider is that as you look ahead of these forecasts,
- 6:17Speaker 1: if we see that stable weather, we're probably seeing stable
- 6:21Speaker 1: wind as well. You're gonna get a lot of uh,
- 6:24Speaker 1: you know, four or five days in a row with
- 6:27Speaker 1: the exact same wind. And so keep in mind that
- 6:31Speaker 1: do a checklist if you have enough stands to support
- 6:35Speaker 1: like a ton of consecutive same wind days, so you're
- 6:40Speaker 1: not burning an area out before we get to the
- 6:42Speaker 1: best hunting of the year in early November. It's a
- 6:46Speaker 1: very good couple of points. They're spencer. UM. I have
- 6:49Speaker 1: had situations like that happened before, so that's a great
- 6:51Speaker 1: thing to keep in mind. UM. So that said, then
- 6:55Speaker 1: we've got pretty stable weather patterns coming up. We're moving
- 6:58Speaker 1: into late October, which generally is that time when the
- 7:01Speaker 1: pre rut is picking up. We're starting to see bucks,
- 7:04Speaker 1: mature bucks starting to move a little bit earlier in
- 7:06Speaker 1: the day or move a little later in the morning,
- 7:08Speaker 1: so we're gonna see that daylight activity picking up. Signmaking
- 7:11Speaker 1: is definitely picking up. UM. I can give you a
- 7:14Speaker 1: little Michigan report if you're okay with that. I pulled
- 7:18Speaker 1: camera as a handful of days ago. And they've also
- 7:20Speaker 1: been observing a lot um on a couple mainly my
- 7:23Speaker 1: my holy Field property been sitting on the hill doing
- 7:25Speaker 1: a lot of observing. There's been a lot of daylight
- 7:28Speaker 1: activity from kind of young mature issue bucks, so like
- 7:32Speaker 1: two year olds, three year old tons of activity right now.
- 7:35Speaker 1: The scrapes are just getting blown up, um, including you know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: like I said, even in the daylight, fence fence line
- 7:44Speaker 1: scrapes in the daylight even are getting hammered by like
- 7:47Speaker 1: pretty nice Michigan bucks. So that's been interesting to me. Uh.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And I think I've been testing most of that to
- 7:54Speaker 1: the front, the cold front. The cold weather pushed through.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I think got these deer a little more comfortable. And
- 7:58Speaker 1: these are very unpressured dear where I'm at, or at
- 8:00Speaker 1: least I've been keeping this specific little chunk as unpressure
- 8:03Speaker 1: as possible. Haven't hunted at all. Um, So that's kind
- 8:06Speaker 1: of what I've seen. I give it like a higher
- 8:08Speaker 1: end of the one to ten scale for my last
- 8:10Speaker 1: few days just from what I've been seeing, like a
- 8:13Speaker 1: like a seven maybe. Um, I have seen three year old,
- 8:17Speaker 1: a couple of bucks that I've been on the fence
- 8:18Speaker 1: at the three or four seeing those deer moving in
- 8:21Speaker 1: daylight the last like three or four days. Even so, um,
- 8:25Speaker 1: that's my Michigan report across the board. I also did here,
- 8:29Speaker 1: and I know we're going over the time limit, Spencer,
- 8:31Speaker 1: so I'm started to keep doing this to you. Um.
- 8:34Speaker 1: But I had another friend who was out three days ago,
- 8:37Speaker 1: so this would have been like the nineteenth maybe, and
- 8:39Speaker 1: he saw two mature bucks fighting, he saw nine bucks total,
- 8:43Speaker 1: He saw bucks chasing, he saw like full blown running
- 8:45Speaker 1: action on that day. I think it's the morning of
- 8:47Speaker 1: the nineteent um, So that was interesting. I think it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: an anomaly, right I'm not claiming that there's some kind
- 8:54Speaker 1: of like the Ruts happening right now, but it was
- 8:56Speaker 1: an interesting anomaly to see that. Every once in a while,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you see something that happened this time May year, and um,
- 9:01Speaker 1: it caught my attension. So that's what I've been seeing.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Do you have anything you personally should share? Uh? Not personally.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I have been kind of taking it easy lately because
- 9:12Speaker 1: once we hit this weekend, I'll have about a month
- 9:15Speaker 1: straight where I'll be hunting. I mean literally every day
- 9:18Speaker 1: for about a month, I'll be hunting. So until then,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I haven't been doing too much so I don't burn
- 9:23Speaker 1: myself out or burn my wife out from being gone
- 9:26Speaker 1: so much. So nothing personally, but as far as who
- 9:28Speaker 1: we talked to you this week, we have Josh McDaniel
- 9:30Speaker 1: in Indiana from Shooters Archery, and then Philip Vanderpool in
- 9:35Speaker 1: Arkansas from the Virtue TV. Then we talked to Justin
- 9:38Speaker 1: Michael from ever Wild Collective in New York and then
- 9:41Speaker 1: from Captured Creative Taylor Coleman in Minnesota. Do you have
- 9:46Speaker 1: one takeaway from the conversations we've had so far, um,
- 9:50Speaker 1: or anything else as far as something that people should
- 9:52Speaker 1: think about over the next six or seven days. UM,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I don't know about from who we talked to today,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I guess one thing is referencing last year's episode again,
- 10:02Speaker 1: is that every single person we talked you brought up acorns,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and this year, unless I prompted and ask them about acorns,
- 10:10Speaker 1: that doesn't really come up. And so acorns are not
- 10:13Speaker 1: similar to it's an issue of an issue this season.
- 10:16Speaker 1: You can probably look to some of those more traditional
- 10:18Speaker 1: food sources, food plots, uh, agriculture, that kind of thing. Okay,
- 10:23Speaker 1: I like it. I will give a quick one to UM,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and that being this next week, the last week of
- 10:30Speaker 1: October typically is one of your best chances of the
- 10:34Speaker 1: year if you're trying to kill a specific deer, because
- 10:37Speaker 1: once you get into November, once you're in the peak
- 10:39Speaker 1: of the rut, lots of time these mature bucks they
- 10:42Speaker 1: get off of their usual patterns and they just start
- 10:44Speaker 1: going Willie NAILI they're chasing does or cruising larger areas
- 10:47Speaker 1: looking for a female. It's willing and ready to go.
- 10:50Speaker 1: So he's not going to be doing what he typically does.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But if you have a specific buck that you've learned
- 10:55Speaker 1: a lot about, maybe you've got a few years of
- 10:57Speaker 1: history with you know some of the places he generally beds,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you know some of the places he generally feeds, and
- 11:02Speaker 1: you think you know how to get in between those two.
- 11:04Speaker 1: If you have that information, this might be your very
- 11:07Speaker 1: best chance to get that shot. Because he's still going
- 11:09Speaker 1: to be generally on that pattern, but because we're ramping
- 11:12Speaker 1: up to the pre rut time period, he might be
- 11:14Speaker 1: moving in daylight just a little bit more. So this
- 11:16Speaker 1: might be that period to catch him moving daylight, but
- 11:19Speaker 1: still in a place that you understand him and you
- 11:21Speaker 1: know about him before he starts going crazy in November. Now,
- 11:24Speaker 1: not all deer like that. I've had bucks that, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 1: stay consistent in a tight area during the rut year
- 11:30Speaker 1: after year, even in the first or second week in November.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But something to keep in mind as a lot of
- 11:35Speaker 1: mature bucks tend not to do that. Yeah, and for
- 11:38Speaker 1: some guys who target specific books, this is literally their
- 11:41Speaker 1: favorite time off year to be hunting. They would take uh,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, the October twenties over the November you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: signaling digit days. So if if there's a deer that
- 11:51Speaker 1: you've been after that he's been nocturnal for the most part,
- 11:54Speaker 1: this might be your time to catch him moving before
- 11:56Speaker 1: he completely breaks away from that uh and loses his
- 12:00Speaker 1: mind come early November. Yeah. So if that's you, I'm
- 12:04Speaker 1: gonna cross all my fingers and toasts for everyone listening.
- 12:06Speaker 1: If you've got a specific buck, hopefully, uh, hopefully you
- 12:09Speaker 1: can get after him, So Spencer, anything else before we
- 12:12Speaker 1: get on with the reports. One nice thing while you
- 12:14Speaker 1: were giving that last bit of information about talking a
- 12:17Speaker 1: specific deer, I did check out the forecast for wind direction,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and twelve of the next fourteen days are predicted to
- 12:22Speaker 1: be north winds. And so, like I said before, keep
- 12:25Speaker 1: that in mind. Uh, maybe don't burn out those north
- 12:28Speaker 1: winds stands quite yet. Or if you have a south
- 12:31Speaker 1: wind stand that you really love to haunt that you've
- 12:35Speaker 1: been you know, holding off for early November or something,
- 12:38Speaker 1: get in those as soon as possible because you might
- 12:40Speaker 1: not have any chances to hunt it before the best
- 12:43Speaker 1: action gets here. Yeah, I'll add one more thing now. Um.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I can't personally say that I paid attention to this
- 12:50Speaker 1: as much myself, but Mark Jury always talks about if
- 12:54Speaker 1: you've got a long consistent spell of north winds, the
- 12:57Speaker 1: first south is going to be really good. That change
- 13:00Speaker 1: could be one of your better days. So we've been
- 13:02Speaker 1: talking about this stable weather. Well, if there's a shifting
- 13:05Speaker 1: wind direction, that might be one of those sparks that
- 13:09Speaker 1: changes things. So if you're looking for a time to
- 13:10Speaker 1: switch things up or time to dive in, um, that
- 13:13Speaker 1: first south might be something to take advantage of. Just
- 13:16Speaker 1: a thought. All right, let's get out of here with
- 13:18Speaker 1: it and go to our first color. Sounds good, alright,
- 13:22Speaker 1: But before we get to our first color, let's pause
- 13:24Speaker 1: for a word from our sponsors at white Tail Properties.
- 13:28Speaker 1: This week with white Tail Properties, we were joined by
- 13:30Speaker 1: Justin Mason, a land specialist out of Illinois, and Justin
- 13:33Speaker 1: is gonna be telling us about what some things are
- 13:35Speaker 1: to consider when looking at a property that frequently floods.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing to consider when looking at
- 13:43Speaker 1: a property that floods, there's a misconception that flooded ground
- 13:47Speaker 1: doesn't hold beer and I have found that personal on
- 13:50Speaker 1: my own farm to be false. Um, I had perfect
- 13:54Speaker 1: video of this just a couple of weeks ago. The
- 13:56Speaker 1: river got up less than forty eight hours later that there,
- 14:00Speaker 1: we're back in there. So I think, what if you
- 14:04Speaker 1: have property that plugs you need to try to identify
- 14:06Speaker 1: a kind of that high ground and make sure you
- 14:09Speaker 1: know that the high ground has as much food and
- 14:11Speaker 1: cover on it as you can get. That way, when
- 14:14Speaker 1: it pushes those deer out, they have a place to go,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and hopefully you can still keep them on your property
- 14:20Speaker 1: without losing them to your neighbor. If you'd like to
- 14:23Speaker 1: learn more and to see the properties that Justin currently
- 14:26Speaker 1: has listed for sale, visit whitetail properties dot com. Backslash
- 14:30Speaker 1: Mason that's m A S O N alright, and joining
- 14:35Speaker 1: me on the line first is Josh McDaniel from Shooters
- 14:38Speaker 1: Archery in Indiana and Josh in Indiana. What would you say?
- 14:42Speaker 1: The bucket activity has been lately on a skill of
- 14:44Speaker 1: one to ten? All right now, I'd say we're looking
- 14:47Speaker 1: at it probably a six, you said, I said six,
- 14:50Speaker 1: because I'm not really seeing a lot of mature bucks
- 14:54Speaker 1: walking during daylight. A whole lot yet, especially from from
- 14:57Speaker 1: the hunts that we've been on and what the camera's
- 15:00Speaker 1: telling me, I am seeing a lot of two year
- 15:01Speaker 1: old you're an a half year old bucks. Um, definitely
- 15:05Speaker 1: getting out about a little bit more so, I guess
- 15:07Speaker 1: if you know that buck activity is definitely rubbing up.
- 15:10Speaker 1: It's it's a little bit of higher scale, but the
- 15:12Speaker 1: caliberty or we're looking for, it's still a lot of
- 15:14Speaker 1: nighttime activity. But I am getting getting a lot of
- 15:17Speaker 1: pictures of them starting to cruise around a little bit
- 15:19Speaker 1: and purchase scraper growth quick. Are you finding a lot
- 15:23Speaker 1: of signmaking in the woods right now? Oh? Yeah, right now.
- 15:27Speaker 1: This is the last few days I've been out checking
- 15:29Speaker 1: cameras and moving some cameras. This time year, I like
- 15:31Speaker 1: to really start to uh, either put cameras on scrapes
- 15:35Speaker 1: or start to make my own MOX scrapes where I've
- 15:37Speaker 1: aloys seen existing scrapes in the past, and a lot
- 15:40Speaker 1: of times they're just on the edges of food sources
- 15:42Speaker 1: where I can get in and out just kind of
- 15:44Speaker 1: get an inventory. And um, yesterday, I think it was yesterday,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and the day before I was out and man, I
- 15:48Speaker 1: tell you what it's it's kind of this last cold
- 15:50Speaker 1: front really got them repped up, and there's rubs and
- 15:52Speaker 1: scrapes everywhere right now, especially all long food sources with
- 15:56Speaker 1: a lot of these big dog groups are I'll find
- 15:58Speaker 1: a lot of those big, those big hood South size
- 16:02Speaker 1: scrapes everywhere. So, um, I definitely think it's in the
- 16:05Speaker 1: right direction that all my cameras are still telling me
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's a lot of nighttime activity for them true bucks.
- 16:09Speaker 1: But you know, you know what comes next, so kind
- 16:12Speaker 1: of definitely exciting. Do you use that information for any
- 16:15Speaker 1: hunting purposes? And what I mean is when you find
- 16:18Speaker 1: all those scrapes lit up along a food source, will
- 16:21Speaker 1: you set up and hunt there or are you just
- 16:23Speaker 1: using that for inventory on what bucks are around? You know,
- 16:27Speaker 1: for the most part, I'm kind of using that for inventory.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But every once in a while, you know, we get
- 16:32Speaker 1: these cameras on, you'll get one of those bucks are
- 16:34Speaker 1: just super killable over those scrapes, and um, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: especially you get a lot of these big dog groups
- 16:41Speaker 1: that are all in this food spurts. Uh, these bucks,
- 16:43Speaker 1: these mature bucks are going to keep an eye on them,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and they want to be the first when one of
- 16:47Speaker 1: those dude, But those inside of pop so um. You know,
- 16:50Speaker 1: if I get one of those mature bucks that are
- 16:51Speaker 1: showing me he's there every other day, every every day
- 16:55Speaker 1: during daylight, you know about what means, I'll slip right
- 16:58Speaker 1: in there and try to kill him, um um. And
- 17:00Speaker 1: you know this time of year, I'm really trying to
- 17:02Speaker 1: be careful. I don't want a whole lot of morning yet.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I can get lucky, but I just feel like myself,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm doing a lot more harm than good. And I
- 17:09Speaker 1: just let those cameras and and you know, observation sets
- 17:13Speaker 1: and I'm sitting and kind of tell me what's going on.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And as soon as I start to get one of
- 17:17Speaker 1: those bucks that are show them, they're killed. But we'll
- 17:20Speaker 1: kind of dive in with the right wind. But yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 1: those those those scrapes are mostly from inventory lots camera
- 17:26Speaker 1: that got on them. But like I said, one out
- 17:28Speaker 1: of one out of ten will show you there's a
- 17:30Speaker 1: buck that you won't be shot down. You know, we'll
- 17:32Speaker 1: dive right in there and shoot him if we if
- 17:34Speaker 1: we can. What would get you making a morning set
- 17:37Speaker 1: up sooner than late October for example tomorrow, if if
- 17:41Speaker 1: we had the correct moon phase or cold front, or
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, rising pressure. What might that be to get
- 17:47Speaker 1: you haunting some morning sooner? Uh? Yeah, you know, if
- 17:51Speaker 1: if if I got that cold front coming in now
- 17:53Speaker 1: that we're into the twenties of October, Um, you know,
- 17:57Speaker 1: now if I get that the high pressure morning with
- 18:00Speaker 1: uh you know, we're down in the in the thirties
- 18:03Speaker 1: and uh, you know, and these cameras, you know, like
- 18:06Speaker 1: I said, they're telling me, they're all it's all still
- 18:09Speaker 1: pret nocturnal stuff. So it really takes something good for
- 18:13Speaker 1: me to to get out there. But now that, like
- 18:15Speaker 1: I said, now that we're getting into the twenties and
- 18:17Speaker 1: November or October, sorry, um, it's about that time. Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 1: well I'm looking forward to that first morning and it's
- 18:24Speaker 1: definitely take a good cold front for me to the
- 18:26Speaker 1: high pressure morning to get out there. What are your
- 18:29Speaker 1: calling strategies for this time of year? Will you do
- 18:31Speaker 1: any blind calling or do you for sure have your
- 18:34Speaker 1: grunt tube with you? Oh? Absolutely, Yeah. This is my
- 18:37Speaker 1: favorite time of year to call, uh because you know
- 18:40Speaker 1: a lot of these bucks, these mature bucks are just
- 18:42Speaker 1: starting to get ripped up, and it does aren't quite
- 18:44Speaker 1: ready yet. Um. You have occasional dough a little popular
- 18:47Speaker 1: in there, but for the most part, the majority of
- 18:49Speaker 1: the does are. You know, they're not ready, but a
- 18:51Speaker 1: lot of these bucks are, So you get on some
- 18:53Speaker 1: of these food sources, especially if a lot of my sets.
- 18:55Speaker 1: If I'm not dove, if I haven't dove right into
- 18:57Speaker 1: where I need to be yet, I'm still kind of
- 18:58Speaker 1: an observation set. But I'm still in a spot that
- 19:00Speaker 1: I can kill one. You know, big dude comes out
- 19:03Speaker 1: into a field and he's pretty far away out. You know.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Sometimes all it takes a few few tending grams and
- 19:09Speaker 1: he's on his way and can you can see the
- 19:11Speaker 1: deal automatically. Um. But they're like I said, they're really
- 19:15Speaker 1: they're really fired up, a lot of them and that's
- 19:18Speaker 1: all it takes. They're looking, you know, they're so frustrated,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and uh, you know, a lot of bucks are still
- 19:23Speaker 1: kind of pushing each other around, trying to um find
- 19:26Speaker 1: out who the domino ones are over um for the
- 19:29Speaker 1: for the rest of the rut, and I'll even tickle
- 19:32Speaker 1: the horns a little bit. This time of year. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: usually get too crazy with it, but I have been
- 19:36Speaker 1: seeing a lot of spawning already with a lot of
- 19:38Speaker 1: these two year olds and sometimes that might be all
- 19:40Speaker 1: it takes to entice one of those big dudes that
- 19:42Speaker 1: we're gonna come out after dark might be enough to
- 19:44Speaker 1: get him, you know, thirty minutes before last shooting light,
- 19:47Speaker 1: to get on his feet and give you the shot
- 19:49Speaker 1: you're looking for. Going forward, then the six week or so,
- 19:52Speaker 1: what do you think that bucket activity is going to
- 19:54Speaker 1: be on the scale of one to ten in Indiana? Uh?
- 19:57Speaker 1: This next week? Um, as far as mature bucks again,
- 20:01Speaker 1: I think we're going to be at a seven on
- 20:03Speaker 1: its way to an eight. As long as the weather cooperates.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I'd love to I'd love to get after it that
- 20:09Speaker 1: last week of October at least last three or four
- 20:12Speaker 1: days for Halloween tip the weather's right, and then obviously
- 20:16Speaker 1: we started rolling the sweet November, so that anything happened
- 20:20Speaker 1: is just gonna go up a little bit every day
- 20:22Speaker 1: again as long as the weather is good. UM, really
- 20:24Speaker 1: looking forward to, like I said, probably seven going into
- 20:27Speaker 1: an eight this next week. Ali, Josh, I'm sure you
- 20:30Speaker 1: and Kristin will have a bb D here very soon.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So good luck and thanks for joining me. Good luck
- 20:35Speaker 1: to you too, good Man, Thanks alright and joining us
- 20:38Speaker 1: on the line. Next is justin Michelle from New York,
- 20:41Speaker 1: from the ever Wild Collective, justin in New York. What
- 20:44Speaker 1: would you say the bucket activity has been lately on
- 20:46Speaker 1: a scale of one to ten, uh, buck activity has
- 20:49Speaker 1: been around a six. I would say, I think we're
- 20:53Speaker 1: beginning to see quite a bit more movement with these bucks.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And I know that past two or three times we've
- 21:00Speaker 1: been to the woods. Uh, there's quite a bit of
- 21:03Speaker 1: sign that's popping up. So we got rubs and scrapes
- 21:05Speaker 1: that are, um, you know, traditionally where we thought they
- 21:08Speaker 1: would be, but even some popping up in new spots.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And we've been getting a decent amount of rain. So
- 21:15Speaker 1: going out after those and even going out during those
- 21:19Speaker 1: rain showers to check cameras, you could definitely tell that
- 21:23Speaker 1: that these bucks are kind of on the move with
- 21:26Speaker 1: you know, making sure that those are updated and and
- 21:29Speaker 1: uh and freshened as as the rain passes through. I
- 21:34Speaker 1: think in a lot of the country that signmaking has peaked.
- 21:36Speaker 1: But what do you guys do with that information? When
- 21:39Speaker 1: you find a bunch of rubs or scrapes somewhere, are
- 21:41Speaker 1: you setting up on that to hunt or you just
- 21:43Speaker 1: putting cameras on there to to get inventory of what
- 21:46Speaker 1: deer around. Yeah, we we're using the scrapes that are
- 21:52Speaker 1: that are popping up. We will throw a camera on
- 21:55Speaker 1: those as well. But we also have some mock scrapes
- 21:58Speaker 1: that we've started that the box are using as well. Um,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but yeah, we're we we don't typically set up on those, although, um,
- 22:08Speaker 1: it seems that we have a few that have popped
- 22:10Speaker 1: up near stand locations that we prefer, um, you know,
- 22:15Speaker 1: typically where we are we get a traditionally west uh
- 22:20Speaker 1: northwest winds. So um, some of those are actually gonna
- 22:24Speaker 1: be pretty beneficial. Last night I sat and saw probably
- 22:28Speaker 1: a three and a half year old buck on its
- 22:31Speaker 1: feet right before dark, which was the best encounter I
- 22:34Speaker 1: had had so far. He had a busted off rights
- 22:37Speaker 1: right side already, but he kind of followed the plan.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He came down a trail that had a scrape on it,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and and I watched him go over to uh, a
- 22:48Speaker 1: scrape that popped up near one of our stand locations,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and he you know, he scraped and freshened, and then
- 22:56Speaker 1: as soon as he was done, there were six doughs
- 22:59Speaker 1: probably third in your forty yards from him. He immediately
- 23:02Speaker 1: took off after one of those does chased her, and um,
- 23:06Speaker 1: so I think we're beginning to see, you know, a
- 23:09Speaker 1: bit more of that aggression and frustration that's uh, that's
- 23:13Speaker 1: peaking now. And you know the dough got away a
- 23:16Speaker 1: couple of minutes later, he was doing his best to
- 23:18Speaker 1: take a tree down. So I think we're beginning to
- 23:21Speaker 1: see a little bit more of that, uh, that movement
- 23:24Speaker 1: and that activity that we're all looking for. What does
- 23:27Speaker 1: what do the food sources look like in New York
- 23:29Speaker 1: right now? Well, we have a fair amount of acorns,
- 23:32Speaker 1: but traditionally the spots that we hunt don't have a
- 23:37Speaker 1: lot of of oaks, so we're still seeing um does
- 23:41Speaker 1: coming out to green fields. Um. You know, we have
- 23:44Speaker 1: a fair amount of alfalfa here and a lot of
- 23:47Speaker 1: the corn that that is around the areas that we're
- 23:50Speaker 1: able to access is been down now for a month.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Uh yeah, about a month, so those have have dried
- 23:59Speaker 1: up with activity for the most part. So I'm sure
- 24:02Speaker 1: there's some brows in the woods. But yeah, last night,
- 24:05Speaker 1: even coming out, there were does out in the field
- 24:08Speaker 1: in yafalfa. What strategies do you have for calling this
- 24:12Speaker 1: time of year for the most part, we stay fairly quiet. Um.
- 24:17Speaker 1: You know, New York is a pretty heavily pressured area,
- 24:21Speaker 1: so we we tend to stay quiet until another week
- 24:26Speaker 1: or two when things start beat up a bit and uh,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and more of that talking is you know acceptable. Um,
- 24:34Speaker 1: there's just so many guys in the woods and um,
- 24:37Speaker 1: we we try our best to keep the calls in
- 24:40Speaker 1: the bag until you know, if you know, I was
- 24:45Speaker 1: ready last night, had it had a deer popped up
- 24:47Speaker 1: at that scrape or whatever, that if I could have
- 24:49Speaker 1: pulled him over just a bit, then I probably would
- 24:52Speaker 1: have done that. But we're not really doing much blind
- 24:55Speaker 1: calling at all at this point. How about with morning setups?
- 24:59Speaker 1: U is the time of year when people tend to
- 25:01Speaker 1: get a little more aggressive and doing a lot more mornings.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's how about you guys in New York. Yeah, we
- 25:08Speaker 1: we typically hold off on those, at least this year.
- 25:10Speaker 1: We have a lot of our setups are just hard
- 25:14Speaker 1: to access in the mornings. Again, there's so much farmland
- 25:18Speaker 1: around us, and it just seems that most every good
- 25:23Speaker 1: spot that we need to get to is uh. You
- 25:27Speaker 1: you know, you're exposing yourself while they're out feeding. So
- 25:30Speaker 1: we're just not to a point where the does are
- 25:33Speaker 1: you know, kind of hiding from the books and and
- 25:35Speaker 1: they're out there and we're trying to keep them as
- 25:40Speaker 1: uneducated as possible up to this point. Going forward, then
- 25:43Speaker 1: the six week or so, what do you think that
- 25:45Speaker 1: budget activity will be on a scale of one to
- 25:47Speaker 1: ten in New York? I think it's kind of I
- 25:50Speaker 1: think it's kind of increase. As yesterday I would have
- 25:53Speaker 1: said somewhere around a four or five. But after last
- 25:57Speaker 1: night sit and uh and talking to a friend with
- 26:00Speaker 1: who had killed a pretty nice buck day before yesterday,
- 26:04Speaker 1: it does seem like it's ramping up. So I think
- 26:06Speaker 1: by you know, a week from an hour, within the
- 26:08Speaker 1: next week, we could be, you know, closer to a seven.
- 26:12Speaker 1: All right, justin well, good luck to even the guys
- 26:14Speaker 1: from ever Wild Collective. Thanks for joining me, Thanks so much, Spencer,
- 26:20Speaker 1: alright and joining us on the line. Next is Taylor
- 26:22Speaker 1: Coleman from Captured Creative in Minnesota. Now, Taylor in Minnesota,
- 26:26Speaker 1: what would you say the buck activity has been lately
- 26:28Speaker 1: on a scale of one to ten. I would say
- 26:31Speaker 1: the buck activity in Minnesota here has been a solid
- 26:35Speaker 1: six to seven out of ten in the last week. Um,
- 26:39Speaker 1: before before the middle of this past week, it was
- 26:43Speaker 1: probably down at like a three, But just in the
- 26:46Speaker 1: last five days or so, it's really been picking up. Um.
- 26:50Speaker 1: We're seeing mature bucks on their feet before before the
- 26:54Speaker 1: end of light and and actually there's been a few
- 26:57Speaker 1: sightings of them tailing was already as well. Is there
- 27:01Speaker 1: any reason specifically that you think the buff move has
- 27:04Speaker 1: gotten so much better some weather front or crop status,
- 27:08Speaker 1: or just because we're getting closer to November. So typically
- 27:12Speaker 1: for us, the rut hits the first two weeks of November. Um,
- 27:17Speaker 1: but this year it seems like it's been a little earlier.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I mean there's even guys hunting the first week of
- 27:24Speaker 1: October that we're seeing deer movement that they typically don't
- 27:27Speaker 1: see until the end of October. And I think all
- 27:31Speaker 1: that is because of the few cold fronts that we
- 27:33Speaker 1: had sort of hit us early. Even we had one
- 27:37Speaker 1: major cold front hit us already at the end of September,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and then there was another big push that came through
- 27:43Speaker 1: the first weekend of October, and those were those kind
- 27:48Speaker 1: of caught us off guard. Um. We even had temps
- 27:50Speaker 1: down into into the twenties, which is very uh unlike
- 27:55Speaker 1: the norm for Minnesota at the first of October. I
- 28:00Speaker 1: think that that is pushing some of the buck to
- 28:04Speaker 1: start chasing a little earlier. And then on top of that,
- 28:09Speaker 1: in the last few days here with the rud activity
- 28:12Speaker 1: really picking up, we've had some really strong pressure spikes
- 28:17Speaker 1: that I think is aiding that as well as the
- 28:20Speaker 1: moon phase. What are the food sources like right now
- 28:23Speaker 1: in Minnesota? M are there still a lot of steaming
- 28:26Speaker 1: crops around And how's the acorn crop look this year?
- 28:30Speaker 1: So the acorn crop is is very strong this year. Um,
- 28:33Speaker 1: it seems like everybody that is able to hunt over
- 28:36Speaker 1: acorns has said that there's this acorns covering the ground. Unfortunately,
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'm not able to hunt over any acorn crops, but um,
- 28:46Speaker 1: where I am hunting, I'm hunting a lot of egg fields.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And the soybean harvest is probably around out right now.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Seems like there's guys rolling every day and soybeans out,
- 29:01Speaker 1: and then there's actually some that have moved on to
- 29:03Speaker 1: corn and pulled some corn out and probably probably say
- 29:07Speaker 1: the corn harvest is around twenty out right now and
- 29:11Speaker 1: in the next week that's going to change a lot.
- 29:14Speaker 1: So by the by the middle of rut. Like the
- 29:16Speaker 1: first week of November, we should be seeing a lot
- 29:20Speaker 1: of egg fields already being harvested. It sounds like you're
- 29:24Speaker 1: hunting a lot of field edgese right now on those
- 29:26Speaker 1: field edgies. What does the signmaking look like lately? Do
- 29:29Speaker 1: you think we've we've hit peak rubbing and scraping it? Yeah,
- 29:33Speaker 1: I would say it's on at the peak of of
- 29:37Speaker 1: the bucks in their pre rut action. Um. There's every
- 29:41Speaker 1: scrape that I walk past on the way that my
- 29:44Speaker 1: deer stands is freshened up every single day. Um. Unfortunately
- 29:50Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to be sitting next to
- 29:52Speaker 1: one of those when a buck actually comes in to
- 29:54Speaker 1: check it out. But um, or a mature buck, I
- 29:57Speaker 1: should say. Last night I was actually sitting over in
- 30:00Speaker 1: about twenty yards from me, and I had two year
- 30:02Speaker 1: and a half old bucks both come in and they
- 30:05Speaker 1: were pond at the ground and and working that scrape.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So and the and the ruts, it seems like the rubs,
- 30:12Speaker 1: I should say, are really active and showing up on
- 30:17Speaker 1: all the little trees right now in the last week
- 30:20Speaker 1: going forward, then it's next week or so. What do
- 30:23Speaker 1: you think that buck activity is going to be on
- 30:24Speaker 1: a scale of one to ten in Minnesota, I would
- 30:27Speaker 1: I would put the next next week of buck activity
- 30:31Speaker 1: out of ten. So I think this next week is
- 30:33Speaker 1: going to be the best time to be in the woods.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Um As gun hunting starts the first two weeks of November,
- 30:41Speaker 1: So leading up to that gun hunting, um, this is
- 30:44Speaker 1: going to be the best time for bow hunters to
- 30:46Speaker 1: hit the woods. All Right, Taylor will like your optimism
- 30:48Speaker 1: in Minnesota. Thanks for joining me in good luck. Thank
- 30:51Speaker 1: you alright and joining us on the line. Next is
- 30:54Speaker 1: Philip Vanderpool from the Virtue TV in Arkansas. Now, Philip
- 30:58Speaker 1: in Arkansas, what would you the buck activity has been lately?
- 31:01Speaker 1: On skill of one to ten, I'd say the buck
- 31:05Speaker 1: activity has probably been about a seven or an eight.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It's it's starting to happen. Yeah, starting to see a
- 31:11Speaker 1: lot of movement. Uh. New bucks are showing up. A
- 31:14Speaker 1: matter of fact, a buckeye nicknamed o j Um probably
- 31:20Speaker 1: jumping the gun here a little bit showed up this
- 31:22Speaker 1: morning and daylight right in front of my three stand
- 31:25Speaker 1: the covert trail cameras is telling me the story right
- 31:28Speaker 1: there on what's going on. That's that's the good thing.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I'm kind of doing it from those LTE cameras to
- 31:34Speaker 1: sell camps. They're really helping out. Well, Philip, let's back
- 31:37Speaker 1: up a few days, because you just killed a monster
- 31:40Speaker 1: buck in Arkansas, and that dear is a world class
- 31:43Speaker 1: white till no matter what part of the country you
- 31:45Speaker 1: to kill it in. So tell us a little bit
- 31:46Speaker 1: about that buck and a little bit about that hunt,
- 31:49Speaker 1: just you know, the short version of it. This is
- 31:52Speaker 1: a book I nicknamed Obsession. This has been a three
- 31:55Speaker 1: year quest. He had a range of about five miles us. Um.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I'm finding out from the neighbors there was more people
- 32:04Speaker 1: hunting than I thought, and nobody has showed me a
- 32:07Speaker 1: daylight picture yet. This deer was totally a nocturnal deer
- 32:12Speaker 1: from what we've seen. But uh, I put in a
- 32:15Speaker 1: big time buck brunch food plot. I had the covert
- 32:18Speaker 1: trail cameras out and just hand planted this plot. And
- 32:24Speaker 1: this last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to get an
- 32:28Speaker 1: arrow on this big guy. And it's the first time
- 32:30Speaker 1: I had really ever seen him in daylight. Right there,
- 32:33Speaker 1: I self video the hunt and uh with my new
- 32:37Speaker 1: ritual bow. That's a bow that's not Uh. The R
- 32:40Speaker 1: thirty that's just now getting Letty to be released, and
- 32:44Speaker 1: that makes my second hundred and seventy class white tail
- 32:47Speaker 1: that I've taken this this fall. I've been truly blessed
- 32:52Speaker 1: um And like I said, this is probably maybe the
- 32:56Speaker 1: highlight of my career because this is I shot this
- 33:00Speaker 1: buck less than fifty yards or where I shot my
- 33:04Speaker 1: very first pope in young white tail by in that
- 33:07Speaker 1: I actually won the Arkansas Big Buck Classic in the
- 33:10Speaker 1: archery division and one third overall. But to take a
- 33:14Speaker 1: buck of this caliber, he is just I believe he
- 33:19Speaker 1: has the biggest frame of any white tail that ever
- 33:22Speaker 1: taken in and I think I've got over eighty amounts
- 33:25Speaker 1: now and all bow kills, and he's just unbelievable. My emotion,
- 33:31Speaker 1: and then having my granddaughter who was four years old
- 33:35Speaker 1: is wanting to go hunting with her papa all the time.
- 33:39Speaker 1: She was right there when we've done the recovery. Uh
- 33:42Speaker 1: Ronda was there, my wife, and we just it was
- 33:46Speaker 1: just a big buck celebration totally. That was simply off
- 33:50Speaker 1: the charts. I've been truly blessed this year. Was there
- 33:53Speaker 1: something specific about that day you killed that buck on October?
- 33:58Speaker 1: Was there some sort of condition about October twenty that
- 34:01Speaker 1: made you go after him, or do you think you
- 34:02Speaker 1: had him pegs so good that you would have had
- 34:04Speaker 1: you kill him? Uh? You know all throughout the end
- 34:08Speaker 1: of October here. Uh no, the deer. I think the
- 34:14Speaker 1: whole key to this was the food plot. It just
- 34:18Speaker 1: seemed to be right in his travel pattern. For one thing,
- 34:20Speaker 1: He's coming out of this big thicket. I had found
- 34:23Speaker 1: shed antlers of him from from actually three years ago
- 34:27Speaker 1: when I started really putting the time in it. But
- 34:32Speaker 1: I think the weather conditions. The day before it rained
- 34:37Speaker 1: all day. I couldn't hunt, and I mean it was
- 34:40Speaker 1: just pouring down all day. And then right before dark
- 34:44Speaker 1: I actually went out to hunt a ground blind where
- 34:47Speaker 1: I had an encounter with him the evening before, which
- 34:51Speaker 1: was the very first time I'd ever laid eyes on
- 34:53Speaker 1: the deer. But he was within bow range. He got
- 34:57Speaker 1: within fifteen yards of me, and I could not get
- 34:59Speaker 1: the shot. He bumped a spike off and I couldn't
- 35:02Speaker 1: get the shot. The next day it rained all day
- 35:06Speaker 1: and then I knew I needed to be in that
- 35:08Speaker 1: tree stand, but I because of the weather conditions with
- 35:11Speaker 1: all the camera gear and me self video, and I
- 35:14Speaker 1: decided that I'm gonna stay out. I'm gonna hunt the
- 35:16Speaker 1: ground one because I can stay dry. He didn't show
- 35:19Speaker 1: up ahead of another buck, or to show up in
- 35:22Speaker 1: front of the ground line. But that buck showed up
- 35:24Speaker 1: that evening right in front of my trail camera again
- 35:27Speaker 1: in the pouring rain. I couldn't believe it. And he's
- 35:30Speaker 1: after in the food plot and a my heart just
- 35:33Speaker 1: sink because of the next day was muzzle at the season.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And then I knew I had to get in there.
- 35:38Speaker 1: So I got in there the next day and I
- 35:40Speaker 1: hunted all day. Okay, I got in that. I got
- 35:43Speaker 1: in that tree stand all hour, hour and a half
- 35:45Speaker 1: before daylight, and I stayed and I had some four
- 35:48Speaker 1: small small bucks come in, but he didn't show. And
- 35:52Speaker 1: then right a six thirty prime time that last thirty
- 35:55Speaker 1: minutes to light. I'm an emotional person anyway, but I
- 36:00Speaker 1: could not control my emotion. I was literally in a
- 36:05Speaker 1: in a world to myself. I mean, and I give
- 36:08Speaker 1: God all the glory. I mean, without him, I couldn't
- 36:11Speaker 1: be doing this. And uh, but I was blessed. I
- 36:15Speaker 1: had a feeling. I got this overwhelming feeling before I
- 36:20Speaker 1: blew that stretch back grunt. Call that something good? What's
- 36:24Speaker 1: gonna happen? Dwell any how, two would have been emotional
- 36:27Speaker 1: having that happened, even someone who has eighty months on
- 36:30Speaker 1: the wall. So I'm gonna back up even further out
- 36:33Speaker 1: to last season, Philip. When I talked to you then
- 36:35Speaker 1: you had talked about the overwhelming acorn crop in Arkansas?
- 36:39Speaker 1: Is that the case again this season? Not not so?
- 36:43Speaker 1: Uh from what I've been out and seeing their very
- 36:46Speaker 1: spotty this year. So people out there looking. Uh, where
- 36:50Speaker 1: I'm finding most of my acorns this year, for sure
- 36:54Speaker 1: is around those edges of fields or openings where they
- 36:58Speaker 1: where they're getting more sunlight, if if that makes sense. Um,
- 37:03Speaker 1: and uh there again now on the property that I'm
- 37:07Speaker 1: hunting here, what I am finding is some of those
- 37:10Speaker 1: I don't know for sure. I think it's a red
- 37:12Speaker 1: oak variety tree. Uh. They're little, their little bitty acrons
- 37:17Speaker 1: and and I say akrons here. I'm sorry, I'm from
- 37:20Speaker 1: the south. Down here, we can't pronounce right most of
- 37:23Speaker 1: the time, but Bacon's down here. They're small on these
- 37:27Speaker 1: big trees, and they're along this fence line, and they
- 37:29Speaker 1: are absolutely bent over and I think that's another reason.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And they're just now starting to fall, and so I'm
- 37:37Speaker 1: gonna see more buck or more dear activity. I think
- 37:40Speaker 1: on the proper I'm hunting because of that, and they're
- 37:43Speaker 1: starting scrapes are starting to open up. I'm not seeing
- 37:47Speaker 1: a lot of big bucks signed yet as far as
- 37:50Speaker 1: rubs and scrapes. A matter of fact, obsession the buck
- 37:53Speaker 1: I just shot, I don't think he has rubbed a
- 37:56Speaker 1: single tree. Now. I've seen some good rubs, but it's
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's those other bucks around that's doing it. And uh
- 38:03Speaker 1: another buck I call obsession Junior. He's already broke off.
- 38:07Speaker 1: He's he's really a big frame deer. He's gonna take
- 38:10Speaker 1: after his daddy, I assume. And he's already broke off
- 38:13Speaker 1: a G two right on the base of of of
- 38:17Speaker 1: his uh main beam there, he's already snap one off.
- 38:21Speaker 1: He's he's really an aggressive deer. It's funny how they
- 38:24Speaker 1: all are different. Going forward. Then, in this next week
- 38:26Speaker 1: or so, what do you think that Bucket TV is
- 38:28Speaker 1: going to be on a scale of one to ten
- 38:29Speaker 1: in Arkansas? I think it's gonna be about an eight
- 38:32Speaker 1: or nine. Because we're gonna have the weather conditions, and
- 38:35Speaker 1: if we continue to get this this cold snap in
- 38:39Speaker 1: these cool temperatures, I think you're gonna see a lot
- 38:42Speaker 1: of rud activity, especially when that broometer of pressure is
- 38:46Speaker 1: a moving, especially on the rise. I think it's gonna
- 38:49Speaker 1: be I think it's gonna be exceptional myself. These muzzleloaders,
- 38:53Speaker 1: it's a Muzzleloaders season right now. They're gonna tear it up.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Art Film Will congrats again on the awesome deer. I'm
- 38:58Speaker 1: sure you'll have a few more this season that go down.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me, Thank you appreciate the time. And
- 39:06Speaker 1: that concludes this week's episode of Wire to Hunt's wrote Radio.
