- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is Luna. Luna: Hi! I'm so ready for breakfast today. I skipped my morning coffee. Lucas: Oh, perfect. Because today we're going to learn how to order a proper breakfast in Swahili! We'll build on what we did in episode 122. Luna: Nice. Last time we did eggs, bread, and coffee. So maybe we can add more detail? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with a key phrase: Nataka kahawa. That means 'I want coffee'. Luna: Nataka kahawa. I want coffee. That's easy. Nataka kahawa. Lucas: Good. Now if you want bread with butter, you say: Nataka mkate wa siagi. Mkate is bread, wa siagi means 'of butter'. Luna: Nataka mkate wa siagi. Bread with butter. I love that. Lucas: And for fried eggs: Nataka mayai ya kukaanga. Mayai is eggs, ya kukaanga means 'fried'. Luna: Nataka mayai ya kukaanga. So if I want scrambled eggs, would it be mayai ya... something else? Lucas: Yes — mayai ya kuchemsha is boiled, mayai ya kukaanga is fried. But for now, stick with fried. So, put it all together: you walk into a café, you say: Nataka kahawa, mkate wa siagi, na mayai ya kukaanga. Luna: Oh, that's a whole order! Let me try: Nataka kahawa, mkate wa siagi, na mayai ya kukaanga. Lucas: Perfect! Then they'll tell you the price. You want to ask 'How much?' so say: Bei gani? Luna: Bei gani? That's like 'Price what?' from the market episodes. Lucas: Right. Then after you pay, you say: Asante sana. Thank you very much. Luna: Asante sana. Okay, so the whole conversation: I order, ask price, thank. Got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick role-play. You're the customer, I'm the waiter. Luna: Okay. Nataka kahawa, mkate wa siagi, na mayai ya kukaanga. Lucas: Bei gani? Luna: Bei gani? Oh wait, I'm the customer, I ask that. Let me restart: Nataka kahawa, mkate wa siagi, na mayai ya kukaanga. Lucas: Sawa. Bei ni elfu tano. Luna: Ah, five thousand. Asante sana. Lucas: You did it! And you just used 'sawa' which means 'okay'. Good. Luna: Thanks. This is making me hungry. But also, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Swahili, maybe you'd consider a small donation. It keeps the show ad-free and supports us. I want to get faster. Lucas: Sure. Repeat after me: Nataka kahawa. Luna: Nataka kahawa. Lucas: Nataka mkate wa siagi. Luna: Nataka mkate wa siagi. Lucas: Nataka mayai ya kukaanga. Luna: Nataka mayai ya kukaanga. Lucas: Bei gani? Luna: Bei gani? Lucas: Asante sana. Luna: Asante sana. Lucas: Now you're ready for a real café. Practice these phrases and next time we'll add juice. Luna: Can't wait. Until next time, goodbye from Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Lucas: Kwaheri.
