Latest / Sidekick's What Just Shipped / HubSpot payment links: describe one, and Breeze builds it | Shipped Aug 2026
Transcript
- Dana (AI host): The buyer said yes on the call, and now you're clicking through an editor to build their payment link. Rob (AI host): Breeze Assistant can now draft that payment link from one plain-language prompt, and clone, update, or switch it off later. Dana (AI host): The draft is quick; the part that protects your money is the checkout you review before a buyer ever sees it. Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies. Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI. Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you. Dana (AI host): Up front: Rob and I are AI hosts. Dana (AI host): We haven't taken a payment, and we're reading HubSpot's help article on payment links, updated October twenty-sixth, 2026. Rob (AI host): Just so we're clear, today I'm playing a sales rep who closes small service deals and hates waiting on finance for a link. Dana (AI host): Then you'll like this. Dana (AI host): HubSpot's August product updates say you can describe a payment link and Breeze drafts it in seconds. Rob (AI host): Drafts it how? What do I actually type? Dana (AI host): HubSpot's help article says to enter a prompt with the products to include, the prices, and the details. Dana (AI host): Breeze Assistant is one of three places you can create a link, alongside the payment links index page and a CRM record. Rob (AI host): And after it's built? Dana (AI host): HubSpot says it handles the full lifecycle: clone, update, toggle discounts, activate, or deactivate. Rob (AI host): Okay. Who can do this? Can any rep on the team? Dana (AI host): Payment links are listed for all products and plans, but you need Super Admin or Manage payment links permissions to create them. Rob (AI host): And the money side? What has to be set up? Dana (AI host): A payment processor. HubSpot payments needs a Starter, Professional, or Enterprise subscription. Dana (AI host): Stripe payment processing works with all subscriptions. Rob (AI host): So step zero is asking whoever owns billing which one we use. Dana (AI host): Exactly. Now, where do you find Breeze? Rob (AI host): I always lose it. Dana (AI host): In the top navigation bar, click Breeze Assistant. Then type your prompt. Dana (AI host): Something like: create a payment link for a two-hour strategy session, one-time payment, with a ten percent discount. Rob (AI host): Fine. Then the link is live? Dana (AI host): Check it first. Open the link and review the settings. Dana (AI host): A link created from the index page stays active until you turn it off, unless you switch on One-time use. Rob (AI host): What am I reviewing, exactly? Dana (AI host): The checkout settings. Under Online payments, choose which forms of payment to accept. Dana (AI host): If you use HubSpot payments, choosing credit or debit card also turns on Apple Pay and Google Pay. Rob (AI host): So I pick card, and the buyer can pay with their phone too. Dana (AI host): With HubSpot payments, yes. Dana (AI host): The choices you see start from what's set up in your payment settings, so if an option is missing, that's where to look. Rob (AI host): Anything else at checkout? Dana (AI host): You can collect a billing address for card purchases, which HubSpot recommends to reduce fraud. Dana (AI host): You can collect a shipping address, if shipping is enabled in payment settings. Dana (AI host): And you can store the buyer's payment method for future charges. Rob (AI host): What about deals? My manager lives in the pipeline. Dana (AI host): By default, purchases through a link don't create a new deal. Dana (AI host): Turn on Allow this link to create new deals and pick a pipeline if you want one per purchase. Rob (AI host): And if the deal I built the link from is still open? Dana (AI host): With that switch off, HubSpot attaches the payment to the existing deal, as long as it isn't Closed won and the paying contact is associated with it. Rob (AI host): Got it. Then I preview? Dana (AI host): Yes. The Preview tab shows what buyers see: line items, totals, taxes, fees, and discounts. Dana (AI host): You can even switch device icons to see it on different screen sizes. Dana (AI host): Then click Create, and copy the link, grab a QR code, or copy an embed code. Rob (AI host): Why it matters: the link goes out while the buyer still remembers saying yes. Dana (AI host): Our research makes the same point: it shrinks the gap between agreeing on terms and sending the link to pay. Rob (AI host): Who gets the most out of this? Dana (AI host): Sales reps closing deals with a payment link, and RevOps teams that pass processing fees to buyers and want that built into the link. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): You bought HubSpot, but your team logs in, clicks around for five minutes, and goes back to spreadsheets. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Our HubSpot onboarding sets up your portal and trains your team in the same engagement, with role-based training for each department. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Then we stay with your team through the first weeks of active use. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Ask about onboarding under services at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Rob (AI host): Dana, what needs updating from our August write-up? Dana (AI host): Three things. Our write-up says there's no setup needed for anyone with Payments access. Dana (AI host): HubSpot's help article requires Super Admin or Manage payment links permissions, plus a payment processor. Dana (AI host): It says the Breeze icon sits in the bottom-right corner. Dana (AI host): HubSpot's Breeze Assistant article says to click it in the top navigation bar. Dana (AI host): And it says only credit cards and ACH are accepted. Dana (AI host): HubSpot's article lists the accepted forms of payment you choose at checkout, including Apple Pay and Google Pay with HubSpot payments. Dana (AI host): Check your own payment settings before you promise a buyer anything. Rob (AI host): One more thing from HubSpot's August updates: discount codes moved to Payment Links settings, and existing codes migrated automatically. Dana (AI host): Right. So if your discount code seems missing, look there first. Rob (AI host): And a link I build from a contact record? Dana (AI host): By default it turns off after the buyer pays, and HubSpot recommends keeping it that way, because the purchase is automatically associated with the record you built it from. Rob (AI host): Then give me the plan, for a rep whose buyer just said yes. Dana (AI host): Step one: confirm you have Manage payment links permission, and which processor your account uses. Rob (AI host): Step two: open Breeze Assistant and describe the link: product, price, discount, and whether it's one-time or recurring. Dana (AI host): Step three: open the link and set checkout. Dana (AI host): Payment types, billing address, and whether it creates a deal. Rob (AI host): Step four: before the first real buyer, HubSpot suggests a low-value test, like a $1.00 line item, paid with your own card, then refunded. Dana (AI host): Step five: use the Preview tab, then click Create and copy the link. Rob (AI host): And step six: next time, ask Breeze to clone that link and change only what's different. Dana (AI host): Still skeptical? Rob (AI host): Not about the speed. Rob (AI host): I'll still read every line, every total, and every discount on the preview before I hit send. Dana (AI host): Here's the habit: preview before you send. Rob (AI host): Every page we cited is in the show notes, along with more of our research at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): Big thanks for spending this time with us. Rob (AI host): Describe it, preview it, send it.
