- 0:02Welcome to the Propane to Purpose radio show.
- 0:05I'm your host Viva Fulton. In this show, we explore the
- 0:08incredible journeys of resilience, healing, and
- 0:11transformation. In each episode, we will sit
- 0:14down with individuals who have faced unimaginable struggles and
- 0:18turn their pain into power, heartbreak into hope, and their
- 0:22challenges into meaningful change and finding new purpose
- 0:26in life. Through candid conversations and
- 0:29inspiring stories, we will uncover how pain, whether
- 0:33emotional, physical, mental or spiritual.
- 0:36Can be the. Catalyst for profound growth and
- 0:39a deeper sense of purpose. So if you are looking for
- 0:42motivation, insight, and real stories of triumph over
- 0:46adversity, you're in the right place.
- 0:48Let's get started on this journey from pain to purpose.
- 0:51Let's give veterans a voice through military broadcast talk.
- 0:57Hello everybody, Let's try this again.
- 1:00I think it's like take 4. That's OK we're going to roll
- 1:04with it, right? Because that's what we do.
- 1:07So hi, I'm Eva Fulton, the host of the propane to purpose radio
- 1:12show with military broadcast radio.
- 1:15I am coming to you live from Dominion Raceway in Thornburg,
- 1:21VA, right off of good old I-95 S background happening.
- 1:27I'm going to I'm going to have to turn like this guys cameras
- 1:30not working on the cell phone to be able to flip it around like I
- 1:35would love to my computer died while ago, but that this is how
- 1:40we roll, right? This is how we roll.
- 1:42So we have I think we had the this particular group, I think
- 1:48it's group 2 has already gone one lap around.
- 1:52They are outgoing for they're lining up for their second lap.
- 1:57So you can see, you can hear, you can hear and we got to watch
- 2:04these guys. So the tricky part that I've
- 2:07seen so far on this racetrack is this section right back here.
- 2:14This is where you can see the the black marks on the wall
- 2:20where that blue car just passed. That's where they tend to have
- 2:25the biggest problems and they start drifting as they come
- 2:30around and then they're having to shift down to, you know, to
- 2:35make the right turn around that corner right there.
- 2:38So we've had a couple of drift drifts into the wall.
- 2:44Nothing major. One of the guys had some Fender
- 2:49bumper issues and so it did stop the track for a little bit and
- 2:56the safety folks from over in that corner and from the start
- 3:01line both ran over. Guy was safe.
- 3:04He got out of his vehicle. That was fine.
- 3:07We had another vehicle while ago that did little dent into the
- 3:14wall over in the same place. It's that's the tricky place
- 3:18right there. And if I go back in and show you
- 3:23the map, then that'll help you. No, I forget what the name of
- 3:28that turn is. So this is that turn.
- 3:35That turn is the easy does it right, Easy does it.
- 3:38So that's the issue. They come.
- 3:41This is where they're starting out and and PO going in the
- 3:47north shoot have patience, but that easy.
- 3:50Does it turn where they're making that right?
- 3:53This is the wall section where they're having the biggest
- 3:57issue. And but but fortunately, from
- 4:00where I'm standing back here on the little porch, we can see all
- 4:05seven turns. 7 turns is what we get to see.
- 4:08So let me go back out here and let's see you know, the safety
- 4:15is always first. We have the ambulance over here
- 4:18as well and man, some nice cars, nice cars out here.
- 4:26Some of these are their personal PO VS and some some of these
- 4:32guys they invested. This is their race car.
- 4:35That's their baby. They, they just only fund it.
- 4:39Met a gentleman while ago who's Navy veteran, Mr. Rick
- 4:44Millenbeck. He's the founder and chairman of
- 4:48Speed and style. That's the Festival of Speed and
- 4:51Style in Alexandria. So that, that's a neat
- 4:55connection. He's a 5O1C3 and I'll, I'll get
- 5:00him on my show. Right.
- 5:01Let's get him on from pain to purpose.
- 5:03There's another guy that I met while ago on the computer before
- 5:08it died on my first streaming and he says ask me why I drive
- 5:13my car. And that's that's exactly what
- 5:16we want to hear, right. Why are they getting out here?
- 5:19It's not you different than somebody scuba diving, hiking in
- 5:23the woods. It's it's about getting out of
- 5:27the house and doing something and sometimes adrenaline rush.
- 5:31Look at that little these these guys soak up their cars, don't
- 5:36they? He's got that's that same one.
- 5:37I think that has a little putt putt while ago.
- 5:40I say that that's the little backfire sound.
- 5:44Robin needs to clean some carbon out.
- 5:46Clean that carbon out. The weather's so far cooperating
- 5:56pretty well We're it's not raining.
- 6:00It was forecast for 80% chance of rain today.
- 6:04I watched the news the weather this morning was predicting that
- 6:10the rain would come later this afternoon.
- 6:13So that is good. Is it here comes the here comes
- 6:20the Yeah, that that guy's having some issues.
- 6:23You can hear it. You can hear it.
- 6:26Maybe it's a fuel problem. I don't know.
- 6:28He's got something going on. See that, that red car, that's
- 6:37that stretch where they're having issues.
- 6:38So Easy does it going around that corner.
- 6:42That's the name of it. Easy does it 11 looks good
- 6:49though. I hear a little bit of something
- 6:52in his car. You it's kind of hard to tell,
- 6:56you know, until you hear them shifting down, but that's that's
- 7:01when you can kind of hear some of those issues. 59 sounds good,
- 7:10but he's taking it easy through there.
- 7:11He, you know, remember this I told you this is sometimes their
- 7:15day cars as well. It's not just a race car, so. 05
- 7:24is going pretty bad. 5 is going much faster than the other one.
- 7:29Oh, I did meet the guy. I talked with the guy while ago
- 7:33that's driving the Tesla. He thinks he'll be OK.
- 7:36He was trying to charge in between, you know, sessions, but
- 7:41they had didn't have the right kind of charger connection that
- 7:45he needed for his car. So I'm not sure what they have
- 7:49over there, but it's not meant to handle a Tesla plug.
- 7:53So I don't know. I've always loved the sound of
- 8:03engines. And there is this.
- 8:06There's a neat adrenaline thing about going fast, I'll tell you.
- 8:10But I do get to Robert offered that I could drive the Miata
- 8:14this afternoon. I'm not going to turn that down,
- 8:18folks. Are you kidding me?
- 8:25I grew up racing, watching my dad race Jeeps off road.
- 8:32He had a Jeep CJ5 and we we grew up off roading, not just him
- 8:38racing, but we'd have reflector runs and that was that was a
- 8:43whole bunch of fun. So we'll see.
- 8:50Oops. Think I'm OK.
- 9:00I'm chatting with my producer, Joel.
- 9:17We'll see. We'll see if maybe you can help
- 9:21me figure out how to flip the camera, folks.
- 9:24That'll be nice. And you won't have to just look
- 9:26at me. I can turn, I can turn the
- 9:28camera around and you could or turn the phone around and you
- 9:32could see what's happening on the track and I can just
- 9:35commentate. I wish I had a roster list of
- 9:39who all these drivers are. That's really what I wanted to
- 9:41be able to do. But what?
- 9:45So from last year, what I can tell you what they do when
- 9:48they're racing each of these sessions, they get the timed
- 9:55session right. So session one in the morning is
- 10:02a, is a, is a different track than the afternoon 7.
- 10:07They have 33 laps that they get to run in the morning and then
- 10:14in the afternoon and then and then they will take the best two
- 10:23times and, and that and that. Total.
- 10:28Of time is how they will do the ranking on who's going to bring
- 10:35home the trophy. The but by the branch.
- 10:38So that's the individual racer. And then by branch, the fastest
- 10:43time added up between, you know, I think it's an average, the
- 10:51fastest average time between the branches is how they will figure
- 10:55out by branch who wins the race, who brings home the trainers.
- 11:01So last year was the Marines and who knows who it'll be this
- 11:06year. So Joel, I think you're
- 11:11backstage. So my issue is I'm trying to
- 11:14change my camera angle so that I'm not only using the front
- 11:20wide, ultra, ultra wide camera, but when I flip it around, can I
- 11:25want people to see their race and not necessarily just look at
- 11:30me? So if you know how to tell me
- 11:32how to change the camera angle, that's what my issue is.
- 11:46Can you flip the camera? Well, I've tried when I when I
- 11:53go, so I'm using my phone right now.
- 11:56When I so right now it said on the front ultra wide.
- 12:00If I change it to back ultra wide, oh now it's working.
- 12:05What? What happened because?
- 12:06It wasn't doing this a while ago.
- 12:08That's OK. I I it was doing nothing while
- 12:13ago. It was only doing the backdrop.
- 12:15So is there something special that does this?
- 12:22I don't know. I'd have to look.
- 12:23I I would have to look at your Gmail.
- 12:25I'm sorry, I don't know you. No, it's just I I'm just using
- 12:28the iPhone 17 Pro Max. But if, if this is working
- 12:37better, I like this view. All right, this view works,
- 12:40doesn't it? Why is it reversed though?
- 12:49Sure you don't get why is it in reverse?
- 12:52It's showing in reverse. That's the back telephoto
- 12:55camera. But it is showing reverse.
- 13:04That's weird because there's a blue.
- 13:11There's a blue car coming around, it should be coming
- 13:15around to my right and it shows on camera like it's coming to my
- 13:19left. Weird.
- 13:24OK, well we're learning. My my my computer died while ago
- 13:31so I had to switch. I had to switch to my headset
- 13:36and and external microphone so I could get good sound.
- 13:42But hey, there's there's media here.
- 13:49They're recording for rally for vets for a show later this year.
- 13:57So all right, well, maybe we figured this out.
- 14:02If you need to drop off, you can.
- 14:03Or if you have questions or comments about, you know, what's
- 14:08happening here, feel free to ask.
- 14:15Oh, he dropped off. All right.
- 14:17Well, we got it figured out. I don't know what happened, but
- 14:20we got it worked out. So as you see that as they
- 14:28finish up and they're beeping, where am I?
- 14:37I don't know what that beeping was from.
- 14:40So when, when they finish up the lap, they will line back up
- 14:46again and get ready for the queue to be able to leave the
- 14:51starting gate again. Remember this is that's when
- 14:55they start the time. So I'm pretty sure it's still 30
- 14:59seconds in between each driver leaving the front line.
- 15:03And that's what you know, that's what triggers the clock.
- 15:10I'm not sure where they have the end marker at because usually
- 15:16there's a. There's a lap.
- 15:18End timer like a female. She's she's in a Beamer.
- 15:32Oh, that's a right seated driver.
- 15:43Look at that, look at that. We even got a Porsche on here.
- 15:52Look at this man. Which group is this?
- 16:133 A Oh A is back on another right seated driver.
- 16:22This will be the last 20 minutes for each group before lunch.
- 16:26Right. The session 3, morning Session
- 16:303, right? Yes, yes.
- 16:45I got my camera working now. Let's see.
- 16:51So this is a gentleman that I was talking with while ago.
- 16:55Tell us your name. Jim Ford.
- 16:57Jim Ford, what branch were you? Army.
- 17:00Army. All right, so this is his car.
- 17:05He works here at Dominion Raceway.
- 17:08And I I I saw him and he's like, yeah, that's my car.
- 17:12And he's a Vietnam veteran. So tell me.
- 17:15Tell them so you're live. Tell them what you told me.
- 17:19You get to work here. You get to play here there.
- 17:22I had an Austin Helio that I fixed up for car shoes, but I
- 17:27couldn't play with it. Being at work here, I pull it
- 17:30out on the track all the time. Yeah.
- 17:33And what does it mean to you to be able to be here to do this
- 17:36today? Everything is my retirement job.
- 17:39Why? That's not a job that's fun,
- 17:44right? This is fun.
- 17:45I retired from the. FBI and I thought, I want just
- 17:48an easy, fun job. Oh man.
- 17:52Oh well. So you don't live very far from
- 17:56here. You kind of lucked into.
- 17:58It on the north north of Quantico.
- 18:00OK, OK. What a blessing to get to do
- 18:04this. It is.
- 18:07So were you at Summit last year? Did you know anything about it?
- 18:11There, there was. I've worked up there one time,
- 18:15Edwin. It used to be here.
- 18:18Run Summit now, OK? But you were here and got and
- 18:23heard that we were having rally for vets.
- 18:26Yeah, I've been here since the red course opened.
- 18:29Oh, it. So how long is this?
- 18:31This is this is what they call a Circuit Court, of course, right.
- 18:35Yeah. So when did they open it?
- 18:38About nine years ago. OK, so I understand this
- 18:41afternoon, did they get to do the longer extension but?
- 18:45Yeah, they stop over here this morning, OK?
- 18:47They'll go all the way past corner 12 up there, OK on the
- 18:51straightaway, and then they slow down to come down.
- 18:54OK, because otherwise they could probably get pretty fast going
- 18:58through. They can go pretty fast through
- 18:59the back asses. There the back asses.
- 19:02OK, yeah, I saw that on the map in there that the back asses
- 19:07look fun, but I'm sure kind of bit tricky because you want to
- 19:11get that speed going, but as you're making those turns you
- 19:16got to remember to slow down. Yeah.
- 19:19Yeah, we've had a couple of drivers that aren't used to it.
- 19:21They go. That was scary.
- 19:23Really. Well, you know, at Summit last
- 19:26year, I remember they cut off part of the course because you
- 19:30could get going in that fast section.
- 19:33But unless you're a pro, you better not do it because that
- 19:37adrenaline starts going and you want to, you want to gun it, you
- 19:40want to, you know, pedal to the metal.
- 19:42Think they put a little chicane over there to slow them up the s
- 19:46s so they won't go too fast. OK, good.
- 19:49I saw saw in the warm up laps they went a little slower this
- 19:53morning. The pace pace car kept them
- 19:56pretty slow. Yeah.
- 19:59It's a fun track. So what?
- 20:01What do you think is the best part about racing?
- 20:05Just being out there and can do your thing.
- 20:09Going fast, Yeah, it's the moment, right?
- 20:11I mean, I think it's what I found even when I'm scuba
- 20:15diving, when I'm hiking, it's being in the moment and and you
- 20:20shut out the rest of everything else, right?
- 20:24Is that your experience too? Yeah, I've we're going to go.
- 20:29I surfed all my my life usually. And then the cars.
- 20:34I enjoyed the Hang Gliding anything went through.
- 20:41You sound like fun. Oh man, look at that car.
- 20:44Look at that car. Is that amazing?
- 20:48These are some not so cheap cars.
- 20:50They aren't that that that's Ronnie.
- 20:53Yeah, they cost some pretty and that Porsche, the Beamer, these
- 20:58are people that put some money in these cars.
- 21:02Well, we are having fun. Great day.
- 21:07Have you heard any updates on the weather?
- 21:09It's still supposed to be this evening, right?
- 21:12Maybe this evening I think is what I saw on the.
- 21:15News after we finish, hopefully. Let's pray yeah, no rain on the
- 21:20track today. No rain on the track after is
- 21:23fine, but not while we're racing, right?
- 21:28Exciting, exciting. What is your best advice if
- 21:33somebody wants to dabble into, you know, getting started
- 21:37racing, maybe they want to try it.
- 21:39We. We have a track attack where
- 21:42it's a lead follow and they can go pretty fast with get some use
- 21:49to the curves and all of that. They don't even need a helmet
- 21:52for that. They can come out on track
- 21:54attacks. OK.
- 21:56After that, the track cross, we have a driver's club or a week
- 22:02tomorrow we'll have a high performance driver education
- 22:06where they can go it out in 20 minute sessions.
- 22:10OK. It's whether they're a beginner,
- 22:14intermediate, or expert is basically where they can pass.
- 22:20Experts can pass anywhere with a point pot.
- 22:23A beginner can go out and go any speed they want, they just can
- 22:26only pass on the straightaways. Oh, OK, OK.
- 22:29We don't want them passing in the corner.
- 22:31Oh, for sure. Yeah, for sure.
- 22:34I I got to drive the Miata last year, the one that Robert's
- 22:38driving, you know, I got to drive the Miata I raced last
- 22:42year. OK, Yeah, I had so much fun.
- 22:45Yeah, there's a need adrenaline rush that you get doing it.
- 22:50So I know a little bit about that, but it's a different
- 22:54adrenaline rush than what you get scuba diving.
- 22:58But you have to be very focused about because it's you and the
- 23:04and the equipment, you know, it's still you and the
- 23:06equipment. Keep your mind on it.
- 23:08That's right. You can't let your mind wander
- 23:10and the music or whatever, you got to focus on what's happening
- 23:14in the here and now and make sure you don't get like some of
- 23:19those guys who try to push it to too hard and then end up in the
- 23:23wall. Yeah, yeah, we don't want that.
- 23:27Definitely don't want that. And.
- 23:28None of the other drivers do because that slows everyone up.
- 23:31Right, right. Well so oh I'm getting a post
- 23:42from my producer about being able to change something.
- 23:47We'll see if I can figure this out.
- 23:51He's telling me how I can maybe change something in my settings.
- 23:55Have an iPhone so it's landscape and not phonescape unless I
- 24:02just. Maybe I just have to.
- 24:04Turn it. Sideways.
- 24:06I don't know. I haven't.
- 24:07Tried. Does it work if I turn it?
- 24:09Oh, there we go. That works a little bit better.
- 24:13Doesn't why there were wide screen now that works better.
- 24:19I told you I'm live and this is my first time using my cell
- 24:23phone to do this and be live like this.
- 24:27So I'll let you get back to your job and let me go see if I can
- 24:33find some other folks to interview and everything.
- 24:36Thank you for calling. Great talking with you.
- 24:39Thank you for what you're doing. Most importantly, isn't this
- 24:43cold, guys? They're getting some of the
- 24:57service dogs over here with the Miata and getting some photo
- 25:02OPS. So part of what the mission for
- 25:14Rally for Vets is not just about race racing itself.
- 25:22Rally for Vets supports a nonprofit for service, for
- 25:27raising service dogs and giving the service dogs to needy
- 25:32veterans who who need a trained service dog to support, you
- 25:37know, to support them. And so there are, they have 33
- 25:44black labs here that I think they're working on raising.
- 25:49I'll work out a time where I can interview them as well.
- 25:56And, you know, this is the neat thing where you've got one
- 25:58nonprofit that is helping another nonprofit.
- 26:02Both of them are supporting veterans and, you know, making
- 26:08sure that what we are doing now is, you know, that we are living
- 26:15the best lives that we are with the support that we need.
- 26:19So kind of. Yeah.
- 26:30So they are the Rally for Vets. Just so you know, Rally for Vets
- 26:35is support. It is the nonprofit itself is
- 26:40Disabled Veteran Empowerment. I, I, I told Robert last year, I
- 26:45said, just call it driven, put an R in there somehow and he's
- 26:49like, oh man, I love that. So Disabled Veteran Empowerment
- 26:53Network is the main nonprofit behind the Rally for Vets and
- 26:59that which this is what this is and you know, being able to
- 27:05support veterans this way is really pretty cool.
- 27:08Oh, here we go guys. I just, I need man, I need a
- 27:12copy of this. So, so they do have there is
- 27:18this it's sorted by car number. The Rally for Vets champions
- 27:28this is and then so there are different groups.
- 27:33Like I said, this is my car number.
- 27:36There's every been everything from a Nissan 300ZX, the Ford
- 27:42GT350, Toyota Supra, Tesla 3AR. These are the types of cars that
- 27:47have been raced in the past. Subaru Toyota Aristo Subaru
- 27:55Impreza, Honda Civic type R Audi S4 BM WX3M40I Nissan 300ZX
- 28:04Subaru Impreza, Ford Shelby Mini Cooper S Chevrolet Corvette,
- 28:10Mazda Miata. Of course Subaru Impreza, Subaru
- 28:14BRZ, Subaru WRXSTI, Ford Mustang Ford Shelby Chevrolet Corvette,
- 28:22Honda Civic type R Ford Focus Mini Cooper S and a fortune 9/11
- 28:28turbo WI. Was trying to see if I could
- 28:31find where was the 2025 last year's last year's winner was
- 28:38from the Marine Corps. Eric Kreitzer with a Honda Civic
- 28:43type R He was last year's winner, last year's winner.
- 28:52So pretty awesome, pretty awesome.
- 28:58Trying to see if there's anybody yeah.
- 29:12So anyways, the nonprofit that they're supporting with the for
- 29:18the dogs is Veterans Moving forward.
- 29:22They let's let's read what they're about their Veterans
- 29:27moving Forward is a mission to provide service, therapy and
- 29:31emotional support dogs to veterans with physical and or
- 29:34mental challenges at no cost to the veteran or their family.
- 29:38We work to guarantee that the veteran and dog are a great
- 29:41match, not only with the tasks that are needed and perform, but
- 29:45also in personality and temperament.
- 29:48If you want to know anything about this organization,
- 29:51veterans moving forward, reach out to them at
- 29:54www.vetsvetsfwd.org. That's Victor.
- 30:02ETSFW, delta.org. Yes, I know my military
- 30:09alphabet. I was always pretty good at
- 30:12that. They have two dogs that they are
- 30:18that they are asking for support for.
- 30:21One of them is Piper. Looks like a Beagle.
- 30:23Beagles, not beagles. I've had a Beagle before.
- 30:28Piper is date of birth was August 16th, 2016.
- 30:34Yes, a Beagle namesake is Finn's Pied Piper, the Queen, and then
- 30:39they have Phoenix. Who?
- 30:43Was born November 17th, 2022 Yellow Lab Retriever.
- 30:48The breeder is Turnkey Ridge Labradors, and it's named after
- 30:53Lance Corporal Christopher J Phoenix Jacob Levi Levi.
- 30:59So. There you go.
- 31:01Pretty cool that they're doing this.
- 31:03Yeah, I'll take care of this. I just wanted to spot you last
- 31:08night. We'll touch you up in all the
- 31:11right slots. Oh, Monique's telling me about a
- 31:15seating dining table. Like a, Like a.
- 31:22Cafeteria. Hi, how are you?
- 31:24Do you Remember Me? I do.
- 31:26I do. I'm live.
- 31:30How are you? Good.
- 31:33How are you doing? I'm good.
- 31:34Tell us about your journey since getting your dog last year.
- 31:38Well, introduce yourself. So yeah, hi.
- 31:39I'm Susan. Susan Senko.
- 31:42I'm a veteran. I served with the Air Force in
- 31:45Nurse Corps. And come here.
- 31:47What's so I have with me come. On.
- 31:52Come on. Is moving out of the way.
- 31:54Come on. Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 31:57It's OK. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 32:02It's OK, I mean. He's settled now so it's easier
- 32:09so. Competing media?
- 32:13Who knew? You're right that that's not a
- 32:20bad thing, Competing media. No, no, it's not.
- 32:23Yeah. And I spoke with them a little
- 32:24earlier. So I have Woody, and Woody is a
- 32:29black lab that I got from Veterans Moving Forward, and he
- 32:33was sponsored by Rally for Vets. So because of the sponsorship
- 32:40that Rally Vets provided, that's how you know Woody was able to
- 32:45come into the program. And training, right?
- 32:49So without them, then he wouldn't, you know, we don't
- 32:52know whether or not he'd be here, right?
- 32:54And so. But you had only had him a short
- 32:58time before last year, right? I think you had just got me we.
- 33:02Had we've been together for a little more than a little over a
- 33:07year and a half. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:08So yeah. I remember, yeah, I remember
- 33:11you. Yep, good conversation 'cause I
- 33:14got to interview you last year too.
- 33:17How's the last year been? Crazy, you know, it's been, you
- 33:26know, started a new job. Congratulations.
- 33:28You know I had some. You know this.
- 33:30Challenge is on its own. There's challenges on its own,
- 33:32you know, and some, you know, personal hardships.
- 33:36I'm sorry, sorry. But you know, the you know,
- 33:42having him helped me through. Good, good focus, but he takes
- 33:51care of you. He does.
- 33:53I try to take good care of each other.
- 33:56So for somebody who doesn't or has not had a service dog,
- 34:04what's the best advice that you can?
- 34:07I mean, now that you've had him for over a year and a half, then
- 34:12what are some, what are some takeaways that you have that
- 34:15could share with somebody else who is contemplating could they,
- 34:20should they get a service dog? Yeah, I mean, I can say that for
- 34:24myself personally, I thought like really long and hard.
- 34:29It would took me a solid year of like hard contemplation before I
- 34:35submitted my app started my application.
- 34:37Right, right. I remember because you also
- 34:40talked last year about talking not just to your family members,
- 34:45but your support around you, your doctor, you know, your
- 34:49primary care, your other specialist who who wanted to
- 34:53make sure were you ready because this is.
- 34:57Its own kind of commitment. It is, it is.
- 35:00And you know, like, I wanted to make sure that I was ready and
- 35:03make sure that, you know, I'm just going through the process
- 35:06of, you know, am I taking it away from somebody else who
- 35:09might need it more as a resource or, you know, and then the whole
- 35:14perception piece because navigating the world with a
- 35:17service dog has his unique challenges, right?
- 35:20Sometimes because you can't just leave it at home.
- 35:23No. And you don't.
- 35:24And I mean, he is by law, you know, by ADA law, I mean.
- 35:28He must lie. I must be OK.
- 35:29He's leaning up against me like he like almost sitting on my
- 35:34foot. He's a good boy.
- 35:36Yeah, so. He's been in love on me though,
- 35:39that's good. Yeah.
- 35:41So I mean, it's, you know, sometimes like going into like
- 35:44different establishments with him, like some.
- 35:46People, they don't always understand.
- 35:47They don't always. Understand.
- 35:48And sometimes they're, it's a little bit awkward.
- 35:52Challenging. It can be challenging.
- 35:53Sometimes. But you know, the fact is that
- 35:57just having him has opened up my world in ways I'm doing things
- 36:03that I wouldn't be doing. If I didn't feel awesome.
- 36:08Because he's allowed me to feel comfortable to do it.
- 36:11That's exciting. That's like I had to agree like.
- 36:13You know, as you say, he's got my 6.
- 36:16Right, right. Well, I've got your six too.
- 36:19Thank you. You know, I feel free to reach
- 36:22out. I'm serious.
- 36:24You know, I'm working on some other things that, you know, I I
- 36:28moved back to Texas, so I drove back for this right.
- 36:33Awesome. Because I didn't want to miss
- 36:36the what Rally for Vets does, right?
- 36:39It's mission working with you guys.
- 36:42And I mean, you can't, you can't.
- 36:45Adrenaline rush is a part of it too.
- 36:48But you know. It's a good, you know, but yeah,
- 36:53I know, like I said, I mean, the fact that Rally for Vets was,
- 36:58you know, that's how, that's how he came through to the program.
- 37:04And, you know, and so you know, I just felt it was important to
- 37:08come back again this year to just help show my support and
- 37:13hopefully like by putting our faces out here, 'cause I don't
- 37:18like being the center of attention.
- 37:20Right. But you know, hopefully by being
- 37:23here and just having like a presence, it'll bring a little
- 37:27more awareness. And if I can help one other
- 37:30veteran to. Look exactly.
- 37:32That's that's my goal. It's.
- 37:34Your base being here, that's not a narcissistic thing, right?
- 37:38It is and I'm using it. I mean, that's the technical.
- 37:41Word for it, It's not about. It's not about.
- 37:44You as the person, this is about representing 2 organizations
- 37:49that is doing a lot of good. And if it's opened up, if it's
- 37:52opened up doors and pathways for you to get out there and enjoy
- 37:57your new normal life, then we need that to happen for other
- 38:01people too. I want other veterans to benefit
- 38:03from, you know, and have the same like benefits and positive,
- 38:07positive experiences that I've. Had now, but your other passion
- 38:10is riding motorcycles too. Yeah, I have a motorcycle.
- 38:16So, you know, I'm just in the process of trying to save up to
- 38:19get a trailer so that I can bring in with.
- 38:23Me OK. Because now it's a matter of,
- 38:25you know, if I want to go somewhere on the bike, I can't
- 38:29bring him with me. Or a sidecar?
- 38:30Can you do a sidecar thing? Sidecar, but I'll probably do
- 38:33like a trailer because in that like a sidecar will change how
- 38:36the motorcycle handles. Right.
- 38:38You know, versus 2 wheels, it'll have, yeah, you know, 3.
- 38:41I know my dad has, he's pulled one of those camper trailers
- 38:44before, so I didn't know they had like a dog trailer, but you
- 38:48would have to wear a good harnessing in and.
- 38:51Correct. And maybe where the goggles is.
- 38:53The goggles, Yeah, I've heard of those.
- 38:58I wanna see that. When you do that, I wanna see a
- 39:01picture of that one. Like, yeah, I, you know, I just
- 39:06with different, you know, employment issues and stuff it,
- 39:10it's just been financially challenging so.
- 39:13Yeah, Yeah. Well, maybe.
- 39:15Hopefully one of these. Days, Let's put a wish list out
- 39:17there. Maybe somebody knows of one that
- 39:20they could donate or somebody. That does or even like sell it
- 39:24like if they have one that they're not using that they're
- 39:26looking. To right y'all hear her wish
- 39:28list. She needs a she she she's a
- 39:31motorcycle. What kind of motorcycle do you
- 39:33have? Harley, OK, I have a Harley
- 39:35Street Glide and actually a member, an active member of the
- 39:40Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.
- 39:42OK, so those are the people that I ride with.
- 39:46So maybe we know somebody that can hook a gal up.
- 39:48She needs a trailer for Woody. Woody right So that he can Woody
- 39:52needs a trailer so that because they are.
- 39:55That would allow me to ride more and be able to because otherwise
- 39:58now if I want to go somewhere and have make sure he's with me,
- 40:02we have to drive. So yeah.
- 40:05But you would need your air therapy, wind therapy.
- 40:09There you go. Need some wind therapy?
- 40:12Yeah. It's it's healing.
- 40:14There's a reason why we do that. Yeah.
- 40:16No, I get it. I haven't gotten to do that.
- 40:19Maybe I need to experiment. And it was.
- 40:22Like one of those things that I gave it a go and tried it and.
- 40:26That was your thing? That was.
- 40:27One of my things. Awesome, awesome.
- 40:30But thank you for your time. Yeah, thank you.
- 40:33It's so good to see you, too. Oh, this is This is why I love
- 40:40doing this, folks, you know, and seeing Woody, he was loving up
- 40:44on me. I I took that as a good sign.
- 40:48Took it as a good sign. All right, you know, it's neat
- 40:55seeing some of these guys coming through.
- 40:59If I can switch the camera, if I can switch the camera back
- 41:03around and there we go. What do we have here?
- 41:11We got, we got Chevy, we got Mazda, Mitsubishi.
- 41:24I tell you some of these guys are pros and gals.
- 41:28There's a lady driver. I'll have to she's talking to
- 41:36them. Hey, I have to Maryland.
- 41:47I think I saw Florida plate earlier got Kia Kia Stinger Air
- 41:57Force told you Florida. I was looking to see if my my
- 42:06friend Richie is here that I met last year.
- 42:10He was from Pennsylvania. There is another place to watch
- 42:22the track from over here too. I.
- 42:23Haven't been over this side. Of the track, I don't know where
- 42:30all the fake grass is from. Here's a much closer area to get
- 42:37to the track. I remember this is Group A.
- 42:51Remember each session gets 20 minutes so they this is the last
- 43:00last session of the morning. They let them go every 30
- 43:10seconds in between cars. How you doing?
- 43:28So far James, how you doing so far?
- 43:34Already running a back door Body Shop here.
- 43:37Is he OK? Yeah, he's good now.
- 43:38He's good to. Race, So I don't know, like I'm
- 43:43watching him, but then I heard it.
- 43:43It looks like he went off this corner here.
- 43:46Oh, you're talking about the one over here?
- 43:50Yeah, OK to. The tires, Yeah.
- 43:52That first one into the wall, Yeah, Black.
- 43:54Art Yeah, yeah, I got him that he's.
- 43:57Good to go. Oh, good, good.
- 43:57I'm not another one. She.
- 43:59Told me about that. I was like, I'm not running a
- 44:01backyard Body Shop. Stop the.
- 44:03Truck. This is not my truck.
- 44:08Well, that's good. You're able to help get that guy
- 44:11back on 'cause his his front bumper came off right?
- 44:14His front bumper and part of his Fender.
- 44:17Yeah, a whole rat sport went right over.
- 44:18So I had to use Doug, the gentleman that has that Pontiac.
- 44:22OK, I'd use. This truck bullet.
- 44:24Ah, I. I had 10 years of body shock.
- 44:27OK. So just kind of the backyard
- 44:29fix. No, they glad you could do it.
- 44:39Probably could make some extra money.
- 44:41Yeah, So I am live, by the way. No, that's OK.
- 44:49So I, I'm the my my radio show. It's actually kind of a talk
- 44:54show. I'm live with military broadcast
- 44:56radio. We heard about you the last time
- 44:57we were, yeah. Yeah.
- 45:00Oh, yes, I was there. I got to race the Miata.
- 45:03So I'm broadcasting live right now on my show with military
- 45:08broadcast radio. You want to say hi?
- 45:10Sure. So let me flip the camera
- 45:13around. Here we go.
- 45:14All right, here we go. Here's who I'm talking to.
- 45:16So tell us about your you your military experience.
- 45:19How'd you get into racing? And.
- 45:21Got back from deployment back in 25.
- 45:23I was deployed to Africa from and September 24th to I believe
- 45:28July 25. Got back, won the race and this
- 45:33actually helps out with my PTSD honestly.
- 45:35OK. And.
- 45:36So if I'm not at the gun range, I'm.
- 45:38Here I'm working OK. That's all I basically do.
- 45:44But how did you get into racing? And so I did it back in 2011, I
- 45:50believe. I did one race and just haven't
- 45:52had time to ever since. And then now I just got the
- 45:55time. The bug was there.
- 45:57The the bug was planted for racing back then.
- 46:00You said all right, when so you got out of the military.
- 46:04I'm I'm. Still it I'm not going to.
- 46:05Guard OK, but this is your outlet and you can afford doing
- 46:10it because it's not a cheap sport.
- 46:12Right now, yes, me and my wife were actually expecting our
- 46:15first kid. March 20, eighteenth and March
- 46:1722nd. OK, so I'm going for March 20th
- 46:20because that's my birthday. Congratulations though March.
- 46:2624th is my grandfather, so we're trying to aim a.
- 46:29Little bit OK, I got you I got you congratulations though.
- 46:34Thank you. So what's the, what's the best
- 46:38part about racing though? Just.
- 46:40You're on the track. Nothing bothers you, nothing's
- 46:42there. It's just you and what's in
- 46:44front of you. Right, that that hits home with
- 46:47what I was saying earlier, folks, because I compared it to
- 46:50like whether you're hiking on the trail, whether you're scuba
- 46:55diving and it's you and bubble therapy.
- 46:58It's like Susan was just talking about wind therapy on the you
- 47:02know, in the motorcycle. This is a different kind.
- 47:06It is you and the car and the track and everything else just
- 47:10shuts off. I mean cuz you, cuz it's it is
- 47:13about what is happening every millisecond going around the.
- 47:17Track. And ironically, I do ride
- 47:19motorcycles as well, so. OK, there you go.
- 47:22So what? What kind of car do you drive?
- 47:24I drive the rec Ford Focus St. OK.
- 47:29Nothing too much done with it. What's what's the highest speed
- 47:32you've gotten on this track so far today?
- 47:34That I have no idea. I usually look at the end.
- 47:36My wife keeps track of that for me.
- 47:37OK. OK.
- 47:38So, but you're behaving on the track so far she's not having
- 47:43any heart attacks. Heart attacks.
- 47:48Very good. So I've I've always been asking
- 47:52so far, what's one thing if somebody wants to get into
- 47:56racing, what would you recommend that they do?
- 47:58What? Got me started.
- 48:03Was just kind of showing up. Showing up, yeah.
- 48:06I mean, people say like they want to do it, they want to do
- 48:08it, Just go for it. You know, the, the there's a
- 48:12volunteer over there that works for Dominion Raceway, Vietnam
- 48:15veteran over there who's who's watching people before they go
- 48:19over there on the track works here.
- 48:22They have a, they have events like tomorrow, tomorrow where
- 48:26you can get some time behind the wheel, do some orientation and
- 48:31learn, you know, some of the curve navigation.
- 48:34So it's not like driving on the regular highway.
- 48:37Yeah. Yeah, it's more challenging
- 48:40because you got the turns, you got the basically the choice,
- 48:43I'm going to say. So speed.
- 48:45Yeah. So as you're as you're coming
- 48:47around the turn, you don't know if you're going to be doing a
- 48:4890° turn, a 180 or could even be like a 120.
- 48:51Yeah, you just have that turn and then just God like you just
- 48:55go for. It right, right.
- 48:58I hear you. Thank you so much for talking
- 49:01with me. I'll see you around.
- 49:03Robert promised that I could drive the Miata this afternoon,
- 49:06so I'm looking forward to that. Talk to you later.
- 49:10Have a good day. Safe driving.
- 49:13Isn't this cool, guys, isn't this cool?
- 49:17And I could have camped here too last night.
- 49:19I didn't know I could have camped here too.
- 49:20But that's OK. I'm at, I'm boondocking.
- 49:24I'm boondocking out there and nearby, not too far away, just
- 49:2910 miles away. Let's see if I can flip around
- 49:32and see we get some other cars. There's some other cars over
- 49:38here in the parking lot while they're out there driving
- 49:42around. I mean, it's here we go see
- 49:52Catterham, this 7R, this 7420R, Catterham.
- 49:59Look at that. I mean, is that like?
- 50:01Gorgeous or what? That is gorgeous, gorgeous,
- 50:09gorgeous. So he's #17 got AGT 350.
- 50:18So if if folks, if they're registered to race and they
- 50:22don't have their own numbers on, then they are using the tape to,
- 50:29you know, to put it on on the side of the car so they can
- 50:33track, you know, who's going around and what their numbers
- 50:37are. So you can, I can smell the
- 50:48fuel. I have a nose for that stuff,
- 50:52folks. I grew up, like I said, I grew
- 50:55up with my dad racing Jeep and I know it's not quite.
- 50:59The same, but a lot. Of the same principles even even
- 51:03off road still applies and I you know got to race last year so
- 51:10you know going around those turns with the speed makes all I
- 51:16mean that just you got to really watch what you're doing is this
- 51:20fat racing yes this fat's racing you're 462 army go army go army
- 51:28here we go we're live how is it going going good if.
- 51:34We can keep the tire temperature up.
- 51:40Well, it's expected. Is the track pretty hot?
- 51:43Not yet, not yet. It's we've been overcast so, but
- 51:48I think the sun's coming out, so we're going to have a little bit
- 51:50hotter laps. I think that'll actually help
- 51:52with the temperature for the tires for me.
- 51:53Yeah, so the afternoon. I think I'm going out now so
- 51:58Group C so. OK, I.
- 51:59Think a little sunshine's going to help me out?
- 52:01Good, good. It's pretty.
- 52:07Thank you. Yeah, you're welcome, C. 506
- 52:12with the Lamont's Blue. It's actually a carbon fiber
- 52:15hood. OK, back.
- 52:16Even in 2004, Can you imagine? And of course the C5 Corvette
- 52:22won the Lamont's twice from so from 97 to O 4, the C Fives
- 52:2706/1. Well, not the 06, but C5
- 52:30Corvette won the Lamont's twice. Wow.
- 52:34Still the best bang for your buck if you can pick one up.
- 52:37Well, I will be rooting you on you be safe out there on the
- 52:40track, OK? I know.
- 52:42Go Army. Go Army.
- 52:45I already told the Marine while ago.
- 52:47I'm sorry, I forgot the crayons. He laughed.
- 52:51I love that we have branch humor out here folks.
- 52:55We are not so serious and not so full of ourselves that we don't
- 53:00have some humor. So I I love that we have the
- 53:03ability to do that. Let's there we go now.
- 53:08So Group C is going out on the track. 992 is casino in his
- 53:16Porsche Turbo S You know I love that Rally for Vets has the has
- 53:23the stickers that they put on the cars.
- 53:25I mean that just says something. So if you see somebody driving
- 53:29with Rally for Vets on their windshield, you know exactly
- 53:33what the organization is all about.
- 53:36And you need to make sure that you give them a thumbs up
- 53:40because they are supporting veterans two ways out here on
- 53:44the track and out there with partnering for service dogs for
- 53:53veterans. And that's just, that's just.
- 53:57Beautiful. We have a good, good group of
- 54:02vehicles getting ready to go out there on the track for or the
- 54:11third session, the 3rd morning session.
- 54:14So you can see out there on the track session two, I'm sorry,
- 54:19Group C is finishing up. So that's why they are pre
- 54:26staging Group C. So as the other group comes off
- 54:32they will they will stage Group C to go out there and do the the
- 54:39last their last session, session 3.
- 54:42And. Look, there's official pace car.
- 54:46It's a Chevy. The EMSEMS people, you know,
- 55:05we've we've got the signs for never forget for the 9/11 and
- 55:15Air Force NOAAUSPHS, Marine Corps, Army, Navy and maybe
- 55:23that's Coast Guard sign down there.
- 55:26You know, USPS is health services.
- 55:30I I guess maybe they're technically a I don't know who O
- 55:366 is. Technically they count towards
- 55:40our services, but they're not like one of the main branches.
- 55:43But I know even even as a federal employees, I see health
- 55:46services out there because they they were uniform too.
- 55:50They represent so Group 2 leaving off of the track.
- 56:00That's how they exit out and you've got some of these others
- 56:05out there. So y'all remember a while ago I
- 56:07was talking about easy does it that red car is coming through
- 56:12the easy does it turn? And that's that area right
- 56:17there. He's leaning into it.
- 56:18You can see it little squirrely right there.
- 56:28And a few more of them, few more of them, like I said, they, they
- 56:36think they can pick up that speed right there.
- 56:39It just before the easy does it turn, but you can see they start
- 56:43leaning in. And I mean, it'll be interesting
- 56:47when I drive around it because you can see the, the weight of
- 56:52the car shift as they move through.
- 56:55So it's a combination. There we go.
- 57:52Maybe. That's think think we're better
- 57:55now So Yep, there they are. They're.
- 57:57Getting they're staging out there on the track,
- 58:02whoopibus.com, somebody needs to look that up.
- 58:04Whoopibus.com Don't know what that's about, but we've got,
- 58:11like I said, the last last of the folks from Group 2.
- 58:19Of. Session three finishing up on
- 58:23the track and then they will start out with group Group C for
- 58:31session 3. Say that.
- 58:34Three times. Fast
- 58:46looking go, looking go. Alright, yeah, so.
- 58:55Is this looks like it is group? Three out there.
- 58:58On the track now. Now I never did actually see
- 59:08where they do their turn around at the back.
- 59:11So they do there is another like I said, a back the back s s
- 59:16there's a cut through I guess from before the back s s to loop
- 59:21around. So it's a shorter track, which
- 59:22is not much different than what we experienced last year at
- 59:26Summit. The those those s s the tendency
- 59:31is to go fast on those big s s, but but that's where it it
- 59:38actually fools you. You have to still maintain a
- 59:41certain speed and and don't treat it like it's a straight
- 59:45away because it's not. So got a white Mustang.
- 59:54I'll tell you they're watching that.
- 59:56They're watching that easy does it corner.
- 1:00:00So apparently when I if y'all heard me a while ago back there
- 1:00:04where I was in the back talking with that gentleman, somebody
- 1:00:08did go off the road back there. It's it's a large U-turn in a
- 1:00:14way large U-turn. And I guess whoever the driver
- 1:00:19was didn't take the turn sharp enough and ended up over in the
- 1:00:25grass. Fortunately I don't or no, they
- 1:00:28said some the tires got into the tires over there.
- 1:00:32So. Not I'm going to sit a little
- 1:00:37curb. I can sit on the wall here and
- 1:00:41watch. This is pretty.
- 1:00:51You know, for even for a spectator, even if you don't
- 1:00:54want to race, it is interesting to just watch.
- 1:00:59You know, there's something soothing about it and just, you
- 1:01:03know, being in the moment and, and hearing what these cars are
- 1:01:08doing. The guy while I go was talking
- 1:01:13about, you know, the sun, the sun's trying to peek out and you
- 1:01:17put your helmet on, dude, you better hurry up and put it on
- 1:01:23fast. It won't take long to get up
- 1:01:25there to the starting line because you, you have to not
- 1:01:29only put your helmet on, but you kind of, you got to put that
- 1:01:32white sleeve on too. And that's supposed to be fire
- 1:01:37retardant. So you wear the you wear the
- 1:01:40hood sleeve, you know, the head sleeve, and then you put the
- 1:01:43helmet on and it protects you, right.
- 1:01:47There are certain standards for having the right helmet.
- 1:01:52I noticed over at the at the Fort Belvoir PX that they have
- 1:01:57racing helmets over there. They look like they're racing
- 1:02:00helmets, but they had helmets, ate about 85 bucks for helmets.
- 1:02:12Some of these are little cars in this group.
- 1:02:21But if y'all notice the thread of the people that I have
- 1:02:24interviewed so far, they have all mentioned that this was a
- 1:02:32great alternative for their PTSD.
- 1:02:35It's something they look forward to doing.
- 1:02:37It is something that they shut out all of the other noise of
- 1:02:41life. And when they're on the track,
- 1:02:44then this is what they are doing and it's the only thing that
- 1:02:48they're thinking about. And, you know, you can think
- 1:02:52about it. You could even do that on the
- 1:02:53regular Rd. Not, you know, just driving,
- 1:02:56normal driving. Shut out the rest of the noise
- 1:02:59or everything else. Turn off the radio and just
- 1:03:03concentrate on the driving. If we all did that, we'd
- 1:03:08probably be a lot happier in the world because sometimes we
- 1:03:10listen to the wrong stuff, the bad news that's out there, or,
- 1:03:17you know, sappy songs that remind us of who or when or
- 1:03:22where. And if you just turned it all
- 1:03:24off and just concentrate on driving, we'd probably be a lot
- 1:03:29better off, better drivers because we're concentrating on
- 1:03:32actually driving and it doesn't have to.
- 1:03:35Be. Fast like this, but just be in
- 1:03:38the moment of driving thinking about the the turn of the
- 1:03:42driving. I mean, I've noticed that with
- 1:03:45the RV driving a cross country, you do have to focus more about
- 1:03:51how you actually drive. It does make me a better driver
- 1:03:55because I'm not assuming that that bumper, this bumper that
- 1:03:59turn or the way that particular Rd. leans it's going to do.
- 1:04:05There is a an equal and opposite reaction.
- 1:04:07You have to be careful how you drive so.
- 1:04:13That's. Where we are so long I we have
- 1:04:19to focus after focus close to lap 3 and 20 minutes.
- 1:04:33You know, you got to think about how long it takes for each of
- 1:04:37these cars to go. It takes usually a couple of
- 1:04:41minutes. So each driver gets generally
- 1:04:45about 3 laps on each of these 20 minute sessions.
- 1:04:51And like I said, they they allow 30 seconds, they actually have a
- 1:04:58stopwatch and it's 30 seconds. Pretty sure it's 30 seconds in
- 1:05:02between drivers before they let somebody else go.
- 1:05:06And when you get that go, there is an adrenaline rush that
- 1:05:12happens because you you know, there is the instinct you want
- 1:05:16to put pedal to the metal, but your first thing that you're
- 1:05:18having to do is make a turn and you get that.
- 1:05:21You know you want to punch it for that first straight away
- 1:05:24only to now have to make the hairpin here and go into the
- 1:05:29easy does it turn? So they go to the left and
- 1:05:36there's another, like I said, there's another you.
- 1:05:39He's already come back around and coming back for this last
- 1:05:44turn and he'll go into that kind of semi straightaway for the big
- 1:05:50s s. That's where they have to slow
- 1:05:53down. Think, like I said, there's a
- 1:05:55cut off that they have before the big s S and then they come
- 1:05:59back around to do another lap. This afternoon, the big.
- 1:06:04S s are supposed to be open for the afternoon session, and that
- 1:06:11will be, you know, a different kind of different kind of drive.
- 1:06:17Different kind of drive. Fortunately, the weather's
- 1:06:20cooperating because the forecast all week long kept saying it was
- 1:06:24going to rain. 80% chance of rain, but the news forecaster
- 1:06:31this morning said it'll happen this evening after the race is
- 1:06:36over, so that'll be good. That will be good.
- 1:06:40Oh yeah, a little squirrel there, didn't he?
- 1:06:45What a pretty car. It's some smoke off of that
- 1:06:53black car that's on right now. Had some smoke in that first
- 1:06:56turn. I don't know if it's engine or
- 1:07:00tire smoke but he had some smoke.
- 1:07:04Might be engine you hear it, it's puttering might might have
- 1:07:11a gasket issue. My guess might have a gasket
- 1:07:14issue. You can hear the RPMS Rev up on
- 1:07:21the straightaways. Thank you.
- 1:07:36So hopefully the timer works this year.
- 1:07:40They had an issue with the scoring mechanism and being able
- 1:07:44to tally all of the. The.
- 1:07:47Scores last year. So it's the nice thing what
- 1:07:50they'll do for lunch are during lunches, you know, make sure
- 1:07:56that the the scores are getting tallied and tracking for the
- 1:08:02morning results and then they'll be able to you know, start with
- 1:08:07fresh numbers for the afternoon. I'm saying fresh numbers, but
- 1:08:11that may not technically be right, but they'll they'll do
- 1:08:14the afternoon scoring as well, so.
- 1:08:20Are you going back to my dad? Thursday morning we made 100.
- 1:08:24You put him on the. Site.
- 1:08:26Pretty sure we can get a quick turn around.
- 1:08:31You got it, you got it. You know the racing group.
- 1:08:35The racing racing folks have always been pretty down to
- 1:08:38earth. They're pretty sometimes pretty
- 1:08:40intense about their vehicles. They know it inside out becomes
- 1:08:45their, you know, second baby that I mean, that's what I say
- 1:08:49they it's because I want to say maybe a a second obsession
- 1:08:54because they get so focused on the performance of what that
- 1:08:57vehicle is doing. And that in itself is.
- 1:09:01Its own therapy if you think about it.
- 1:09:03For each of these, you know drivers who are maintaining
- 1:09:08their vehicles just like we did in the military.
- 1:09:10PMCS wanted to run optimum performance.
- 1:09:14You learn what fuel works the best, what oil works best, what
- 1:09:18transmission fluid works the best, what coolant, the the
- 1:09:21tires, everything. Tires matter, right?
- 1:09:25Rubber matters, and you've got to make sure that, well, you
- 1:09:29gotta get the bluing. I'm pretty sure I'm saying the
- 1:09:33right term. You get the bluing burned off so
- 1:09:37that the grip of the rubber on the track is going to be
- 1:09:42optimum. I know when I raced the Miata
- 1:09:46last year, we wanted to make sure we got some laps in because
- 1:09:50Robert had put new tires on the Miata.
- 1:09:52So we had to get that bluing rubbed off that that.
- 1:09:57He was a little squirrely going around the easy does it turn?
- 1:10:01But he handled it, had good control over it.
- 1:10:05But but. Tires matter.
- 1:10:07Temperature matters. The amount of moisture on the
- 1:10:10track matters as well. Any of those things changes the
- 1:10:14condition. So maintaining the vehicle is
- 1:10:17just as important in the non track time as it is being on
- 1:10:24track. Because without that non track
- 1:10:28maintenance performance time of things, then the actual
- 1:10:31performance on the track is not going to be so far.
- 1:10:35You have to maintain your equipment.
- 1:10:37I think that's one of the beautiful things that the
- 1:10:40military has done right for us is making sure you take care of
- 1:10:45your equipment. You take care of your equipment,
- 1:10:48it will take care of you. You take care of your people,
- 1:10:50they will take care of you. It it is as true then as it is
- 1:10:55true now, no matter what organization you're in, no
- 1:10:59matter what kind of equipment you are working with, you have
- 1:11:04to do do maintenance. And it gives you something to
- 1:11:07think about, gives you something to do when you, you know, and I
- 1:11:13don't mind as a devil's playground folks, the more you
- 1:11:17can stay engaged in something. And I don't care whether it is
- 1:11:21racing, whether it's hunting, you know, hiking, fishing,
- 1:11:28whatever. Find something because and, and
- 1:11:32maybe that changes per season. It changes for me.
- 1:11:35It it changes also how I feel physically.
- 1:11:42My knee's been bothering lately so I have not been hiking in a
- 1:11:46while. It hurts my knee.
- 1:11:48My left knee's been bothering me.
- 1:11:50I went to the ortho Dr. last month.
- 1:11:53He gave me a knee injection. It hasn't helped.
- 1:11:58It's it's not doing well. So I.
- 1:12:02I you know. That's the hard part.
- 1:12:06You get, you know, you have to learn how to live with things
- 1:12:09and figure out if I'm going to be able to keep hiking or do I
- 1:12:13make a switch to a different sport that still keeps me out
- 1:12:18and active and moving. Because I I have learned over
- 1:12:21time, motion is lotion, movement is my friend.
- 1:12:26And that's how I stay, you know, invigorated and doing this
- 1:12:31stuff, getting out and moving, some of these cars coming back.
- 1:12:38There's a few more coming back trying to show you guys some
- 1:12:42different stuff. Yep.
- 1:13:01Change drivers or ride persons going to ride in passenger.
- 1:13:08So being a passenger is allowed too, but you got to wear a
- 1:13:12helmet also. Well, just know that they do
- 1:13:15allow passengers. Remember that That Vietnam
- 1:13:19veteran that works here said that they have a track session
- 1:13:22tomorrow. And maybe that's where if
- 1:13:25you're. Interested in doing this?
- 1:13:26You don't, you know, like I said this, these are people who are
- 1:13:30driving their regular personally owned vehicles.
- 1:13:33Some of them have dedicated race vehicles but they you can drive
- 1:13:38your POV car. Not a truck.
- 1:13:42I can. I can guarantee you trucks are
- 1:13:45not allowed. Don't think I didn't ask last
- 1:13:47year because I did. Trucks.
- 1:13:50Trucks are not allowed too heavy.
- 1:13:52You know you can't. Even if you could get the speed,
- 1:13:56getting around the corners and not flipping over is a different
- 1:14:00story. So shoulders pinching.
- 1:14:05So it's it's cars only on the track, but you can get out there
- 1:14:13and drive your own car. Nothing.
- 1:14:16How much is going to happen to it here versus being on the
- 1:14:20freeway? More chances probably something
- 1:14:22happening in the freeway than here.
- 1:14:24But the speed is up to you. And you know, nobody says you
- 1:14:29have to go fast during. It's just getting the
- 1:14:33experience, just doing it. Although I'll say the temptation
- 1:14:42of driving fast is definitely there.
- 1:14:46If you haven't ever raced, then I don't know what to tell you.
- 1:14:50Because I'm telling you you'll want to go fast on the Raceway.
- 1:14:56That's a no brainer. But you can go slow too.
- 1:14:59Nobody says you have to go fast, but I tell you what, this girl
- 1:15:05likes to go fast. All.
- 1:15:23Right, well, we are going to I'm going to flip the camera around.
- 1:15:31We're going to, you know, this, this session is winding up.
- 1:15:37I will give my phone a chance to charge and hopefully I get to
- 1:15:44race this afternoon. I'll be excited if I get to do
- 1:15:49that. Robert said I could.
- 1:15:51So I'm not going to say no to racing, but I'll make sure that
- 1:15:58I sign back on as soon as I can or maybe in between sessions.
- 1:16:05Well, yeah, right between groups, between groups and
- 1:16:09sessions, because it'll still be session 1/2 and three groups AB
- 1:16:14and C in each session. So just want to make sure
- 1:16:17everybody understands how all of that has worked out and I will
- 1:16:22catch you guys after lunch. I'll be back.
- 1:16:26See y'all later. Hi, I'm Beaker with Military
