- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41How did your Dallas Cowboys team finished?
- 0:44I don't even know. What do you mean they're on the
- 0:47couch, Cowboy? Cowboys are on the couch right
- 0:51now along with the 49ers along with the thank.
- 0:54Goodness, they are. Yeah, but I don't even know like
- 0:57how? You're and and interesting.
- 0:58It'll be interesting as we get ready into the Seahawks and Rams
- 1:02weekend. The Denver Broncos, who I
- 1:04thought were going to go to the Super Bowl Bow Knicks, their
- 1:07quarterback broke his ankle on the last play.
- 1:10They won. They won the game.
- 1:12Yeah, I saw that. Because then he.
- 1:13Broke his ankle the last play and now they're going to be
- 1:17heading against the New England Patriots and they don't have
- 1:20their QB and they have a guy who's not played at all like few
- 1:24snaps. So to me, I'm already like, OK,
- 1:26Patriots is going to walk all over because you don't get your
- 1:28guy. No.
- 1:29And if he hasn't thrown hardly anything, Oh my goodness.
- 1:34So I really think we're going to get a redo.
- 1:36I think we're going to get the New England Patriots against the
- 1:38Seahawks, which is that infamous.
- 1:40Remember that the infamous oh right, two do two yeah, points
- 1:45in a row and they didn't, it didn't happen.
- 1:47I think we're going to get think we're going to get the infamous
- 1:50Patriots and we're going to get the Seahawks and.
- 1:52And we're going to get revenge, is that?
- 1:54Yeah, that's what Well, yeah, I I think the Hawks as the.
- 1:57Seahawks as Seahawks. Yeah, No, I think now, now, now
- 2:01here's the deal and I it's, it's.
- 2:03So what's interesting is I have a couple coworkers that have
- 2:10made me not like the Seahawks. Now, I don't dislike the
- 2:12Seahawks. I want to preface it because I'm
- 2:14from Washington, I think. We touched a smidge on this in a
- 2:18past podcast, but not the entire story or.
- 2:22Yeah, when the fan base, when the fan base behind so
- 2:24obnoxious, when the fan base gets so obnoxious, it's not
- 2:28against the team or the players. I'm like, I'm not rooting for
- 2:30you because you're just you're just frickin obnoxious.
- 2:33So but of course, I mean, of course I want the Seahawks to
- 2:35win because I mean, I'm a Washingtonian so I definitely
- 2:38the Seahawks to win. So but it doesn't bring a good
- 2:42question. So interesting that the Buffalo
- 2:44Bills, their coach, Sean McDermott, had gotten fired and
- 2:48then Mike, Tom. So Mike, Tom.
- 2:50Yeah. So Mike Tomlin from the the
- 2:52Pittsburgh Steelers stepped down.
- 2:54Jim Harbaugh of the Ravens, after 19 years, got fired.
- 2:58So all of these coaches had winning seasons.
- 3:01Now, they didn't get the Super Bowl ring and they got bumped
- 3:05out in the playoffs, right? But all of these coaches had
- 3:08winning seasons. So the regular season, they all
- 3:11won. They all won, right?
- 3:13They got, they did the job. So I I find it interesting that
- 3:18they'll blow you out no matter what, basically.
- 3:20Right. Even if you kind of feels like.
- 3:22Radio, it does it feel, it feels like radio when I think about
- 3:26now the did Now I just want to clarify the difference between
- 3:28radio and those guys is they make millions, right.
- 3:32So I'd love to be, I'd love to be blown out of a $13 million a
- 3:35year job after I worked a couple years and got 203040 million in
- 3:39the bank, right. Yeah, fire my ass.
- 3:41Fire me. I'm good, right?
- 3:43You know that they're still going to pick up whatever's in
- 3:45their contract if they have all kinds of shit in their contract.
- 3:48Well, if we fire, they're still going to get money.
- 3:50They get golden parachutes. Yes, they they are, they are
- 3:53well taken care of. So radio people doesn't work
- 3:56that way unless you're Howard Stern or Ryan Seacrest.
- 3:58Outside of that, the regular radio person, the rating, the
- 4:01ratings come back and your ass is out the door.
- 4:03Basically, yeah. But I, but I find it interesting
- 4:06that man is that it makes it hard to follow teams or or root
- 4:12on teams because the fan bases are just so God awful.
- 4:16Like I, I love it. I love it when overweight men,
- 4:19balding, fat overweight men sit at home and think, think that
- 4:24they can throw a ball like even the even the worst QB in the
- 4:27NFL. Yeah.
- 4:29Trust me, think that they can and and then and I'm not
- 4:32defending because football players are multi millionaires a
- 4:35billion times over. I'm not defending the players.
- 4:38I'm just saying Can you imagine the stress to lose a game or win
- 4:42a game? I mean the list just goes on and
- 4:44on. And then you got the fans that
- 4:46you, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't, Period.
- 4:49Right, everybody. You have the weight, so you have
- 4:52so much weight on your shoulders, not only the team and
- 4:56the franchise. You have to perform for all of
- 4:59them and then you Add all the this fan base on top of it that
- 5:03is so. Touch and we're talking and
- 5:07we're talking a toxic fan base on top of that, you know?
- 5:10So yes. Yeah.
- 5:11So, so when it's when it's toxic and then it's on top, it's like,
- 5:14yeah, you may be getting paid millions.
- 5:16I don't know if you want that, want that job, if you're getting
- 5:20paid millions and millions of dollars.
- 5:22I, I think, I think some people are just fine with that.
- 5:24So yeah, fine with that stress. See.
- 5:26I don't know. The dogs are agreeing.
- 5:28I guess you don't know. What they are like that or the
- 5:30mailman's there? It's always the same time.
- 5:33It's always the same time. So I find it, I find the
- 5:36correlation between radio ratings and these people getting
- 5:40blown out of their their jobs. The money's not correlated,
- 5:43that's for sure. But how many times did that that
- 5:45ratings book come down and people lost their jobs?
- 5:49Every time. Every time.
- 5:50I don't remember a time it didn't happen.
- 5:53Yeah. I mean, unless we were in the
- 5:56doing well position and we were fine.
- 5:58Yeah, they're they're fine. And even then, regardless.
- 6:01Right. Even in our building, like if we
- 6:03did fine and another station didn't, didn't fine, didn't do
- 6:06fine, then that somebody in that station got let go.
- 6:09So it still affected our building in some way, even
- 6:12though it didn't affect us so personally.
- 6:15So the crazy story how Michelle and I met many years ago at KFFM
- 6:19in Yakima was and it was and it, and it was my very first PD job,
- 6:23program director job. So I understand that.
- 6:26But the station had a 16 share. It has 16 share at the time.
- 6:31And it was #1 in the market, number one in the market.
- 6:34And then my first book, it came back and it was an 11 share.
- 6:38Now KFFM was still number one in the market still number one in
- 6:43the market had a 33 share women 18 to 20.
- 6:46I mean it still was by far and this was before hot 99.7.
- 6:50Was there no competition? It literally ruled the market
- 6:54still. And legacy, it had been around
- 6:57for years, yeah, 2020 years I think by that point in time.
- 7:01Yeah, it it was so so, but because it had gone it because
- 7:04my first book and we lost Michelle knows this.
- 7:06We lost the entire staff. We we had already lost anybody
- 7:09who had gotten the 16 share except for you.
- 7:12I think you were still there. I think you may be the lone
- 7:15survivor of that I. Think so.
- 7:17You know and. Because I was the only woman I.
- 7:21Don't know who was the woman on overnights?
- 7:24Was that DJ Wilde at the? Time yes, and she hated my guts
- 7:28so yes she. Hates me too now, so don't.
- 7:30Worry. But she hated, she hated the
- 7:32fact that I didn't, I think when we moved you to mornings or
- 7:35something like that, she hated the fact that I just didn't
- 7:37automatically give her mid days. But she wasn't that good.
- 7:40I mean, not to pick on her. I mean, and she'll probably hear
- 7:42this and still be pissed at me. So I got nothing to lose.
- 7:45That's almost 30 years ago. So.
- 7:48So, yeah. You know.
- 7:49And so think of a program doctor.
- 7:50You're a coach on the team. You are a coach on the team and
- 7:52you got to make these decisions. But it's interesting that that I
- 7:56ended up getting replaced. I, I, I got to them before they
- 8:02got to me. So So what, what had happened
- 8:04was they, they want to bring in Jeff Jacobs and that's how Jeff
- 8:09Jacobs got there. And so Dave Amit, the general
- 8:13manager, took me aside and says, Hey, you're we're you're not
- 8:16losing your job, but we're going to bring in Jeff Jacobs to be
- 8:18over one O 7 and then you're going to be taking on Sunday
- 8:2192.9 at the time, because we're right, I was overseeing both
- 8:24stations. So and me and my arrogance at 28
- 8:28years old, I called a buddy of mine and said, Hey, you've been
- 8:30looking for a program director and you've been wanting to get
- 8:33me, hire me, right? And so did like.
- 8:36So I'll take it. So I took the job.
- 8:38So I walked in. So they they say, hey, we're
- 8:40going to move you out of that slot.
- 8:41Walked in the next morning and go.
- 8:43Here's my two weeks notice. Right.
- 8:45Big bad 28 now I'm a I'm a kid. I mean, I'm sorry. 28 left.
- 8:48Me left me. With Oh, but I was but I was but
- 8:51I went. But it was my it was my own
- 8:53arrogance of like peace out, you know, great.
- 8:57You ain't. You ain't doing me that way.
- 8:59And I think a lot of people would have done that.
- 9:01I could see myself doing that because you would be getting
- 9:06demoted is upsetting to a lot of people.
- 9:10And so I think a lot of people. And the book the fun, you know
- 9:14how would. Do that.
- 9:15I would probably do that in. Your and you know, The funny
- 9:18thing is the book came back and it went right back up.
- 9:20You know what I'm saying? It was just down and it bounced
- 9:22right back. So it was just a fluke
- 9:24basically. It was a fluke book, but but
- 9:26hey, it ended. It ended the way it ended and
- 9:29and so it was interesting that well, for the people who took
- 9:34over after me. Hot 99.7 signed on, cut them in
- 9:38half. You know, all the record company
- 9:41money said bye bye. See you later.
- 9:44Remember, I'm sure Kramer is walking around threatened
- 9:46because his you know, you, you no longer have any, you have no
- 9:49promotional budget because the radio station is not going to
- 9:51spend a dime. So so you got cut in half and
- 9:56and they didn't spend a dime. And so that station, my gosh,
- 9:59camp of him, was dead last for what, eight years?
- 10:02I think so because eight years I feel like, yeah, it just, they
- 10:06just kept getting, they kept trying to throw whatever would
- 10:10stick on the wall to try and get back some of those numbers that
- 10:14and in the process, I think they made it 10 times worse.
- 10:18Some. Of the shit they were doing,
- 10:20yeah. Even I, as a long time listener
- 10:24grew up with it. I some of the changes they were
- 10:26making and I by this time I wasn't there anymore.
- 10:30I would listen and go, what are they doing?
- 10:33Oh, yeah. My God, I don't even recognize
- 10:35the station. It was just, it was frightening.
- 10:38So the, so the hilarity was that happened to me in 2000.
- 10:42They brought me back in 2009. Station was dead last.
- 10:46They brought me back in 2009. The first thing that little
- 10:49Mikey Namare, they were on the station at the time and and a
- 10:52couple other people, first thing they said, Oh, he's just going
- 10:54to want to play Matchbox 20, you know, and I'm like, no, we're
- 10:58going to we're going to play. So what had happened was so
- 11:01here's a couple things that had happened to the station was they
- 11:04were doing so they they were doing a morning show called the
- 11:06noise boys. And so they were thinking that
- 11:09saying that saying damn and ass and doing and doing a game
- 11:13called Mangina. And they were, and remember and
- 11:16remember they were mixing like at 8:00 in the morning.
- 11:18Oh, it's the Master mix Wiki Wiki wiki wiki.
- 11:21Wiki. So.
- 11:22So you literally took this. I'm just saying.
- 11:25You took this grand old lady and you just freaking drove her into
- 11:28the fucking dirt and. Your target audience is women.
- 11:32Do you think women want to listen?
- 11:33To that right, right. And and so and Weezy was there
- 11:36and so Weezy, Weezy was telling me what what the lower valley
- 11:39was all about. So I got there and she's like,
- 11:42she goes, you don't know shit. You know, the lower valley.
- 11:45And I'm like, well, and I just, I just said, I just said, hey
- 11:48man, this isn't a ghetto radio station.
- 11:50This isn't your personal jukebox.
- 11:52And because she was playing whatever, you know, I'm saying,
- 11:55so it was, it was ghetto. It was ghetto.
- 11:57And at the time, and you think, oh, Rick's a genius.
- 12:00Rick's not a genius. At the time, the hottest artist
- 12:03in the format was Pink, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift.
- 12:08This was a huge high point in Chr music.
- 12:10Not like, you know, not like it is today.
- 12:12Literally was the high point of of the best of the best of the
- 12:15time, right? Women all love them.
- 12:17And they weren't playing any of those songs like when I talked
- 12:21to, when I talked to Steve Rocher, when I talked to DJ
- 12:24Little Mikey or Nam, they're all like, you know, those artists
- 12:28suck. Well, that's.
- 12:30Your personal opinion? We have to play artists that we
- 12:33personally think sucks but other people like them like.
- 12:37It's right, and I remember. Personal he can't just play
- 12:39whatever we want. Right.
- 12:42And so I came on board and then the playlist and it was
- 12:45interesting. There was a song Blues Blues
- 12:47Traveler run around. I mixed that.
- 12:50So we got the playlist back together and then that was on a
- 12:52note. We don't, we don't play Blues
- 12:54Traveler, we don't play Matchbox 20.
- 12:56And but they really had this, they really had the impression
- 12:59of who I was going to be coming in and they and, and, and what
- 13:02the station was going to sound like.
- 13:03And then they were shocked to discover that I'm that I'm a pop
- 13:07guy like that. It's going to be a Top 40 radio
- 13:09station. What's, you know, even today,
- 13:11right now, if I and I do, I run KISS FM in, in tri-cities, it's
- 13:15Sabrina Carpenter, it's Kendrick Lamar.
- 13:17It's, you know, it's like those are the hit records right now.
- 13:21And that's what you play. You play the hits.
- 13:23And so all I did, all I did, coming back nine years later, I
- 13:27played the hits. Suddenly one O 7 was #1 again,
- 13:31like like out of the blue. I mean, it just went right back
- 13:33to the top. Even beat 99.7 went right above
- 13:36it because it became mass appeal.
- 13:38It was mass appeal again. Like it should never have left
- 13:41me in mass appeal. But because they overreacted and
- 13:44kept thinking that they had to be more ghetto than 99 seven.
- 13:48And you're not going to be more ghetto than 99 seven.
- 13:50You're just not. That's where they live, right?
- 13:52And I give my respect to Blaze, Blaze, Blaze, if you're hearing
- 13:55this, this podcast, nothing but respect for.
- 13:58Him. He doesn't listen.
- 13:59No, he doesn't. But but it's one of those things
- 14:02is understanding, you know, the product, the product that you
- 14:05got. So going back to the NFL thing,
- 14:07it's like, yeah, it's one of those things where it's like
- 14:10they they, they never didn't have a winning season now and
- 14:13now you're out. How would you like to be that
- 14:15you put your heart and soul into it.
- 14:17In 19 years. Right.
- 14:19For a couple of these guys, for a couple, couple of guys.
- 14:21That would just be, I mean, they'll probably get shuffled
- 14:25around. You know, other teams are gonna
- 14:27hire so and so and so and so. Just like when we went to Vegas
- 14:31and I'm watching the news and I hear Pete Carroll with the
- 14:35Raiders, the Las Vegas Raiders. And at first you go what?
- 14:39Because you still think he's with the.
- 14:41Seahawks we got fired too, but he got fired.
- 14:44And now he's the head coach for the Raiders and so.
- 14:46No, he got fired. He's fired.
- 14:48He's fired. Oh my.
- 14:50God, he's already out. Shit is just happening, I swear.
- 14:55That's crazy. Yeah.
- 14:56So now, now he. I think their record was one.
- 14:59And yeah. They didn't do.
- 15:00Well, so, yeah, so understandable.
- 15:02That would make sense to me. And I don't know if I don't know
- 15:05if Gino Smith will be around next year either, but.
- 15:07And Tyler Lockett ended up there.
- 15:09Yeah, too. Well, but you're putting, hey,
- 15:11now you can relate in radio to this is like you're putting your
- 15:13team together. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:15Coming from radio. So it's like.
- 15:17You know how they're going to perform.
- 15:19You know they're reliable, you know things about them, you
- 15:22understand how they function and work and, and in, in Pete's
- 15:26case, how they play. And so, yeah, of course you
- 15:29would bring some of those people in.
- 15:31Well, and you and you and I interested enough have worked
- 15:34together multiple times because when you're, when you're
- 15:37building your team, you got to get you got to get the, the,
- 15:41the, the players in there. And I always, I always tell
- 15:43interesting little story too. I've always felt the program
- 15:47director at the radio station, he's the quarterback right now.
- 15:49I'm one of those quarterbacks that I'm gonna, I have the ball
- 15:52in my hand and I throw it to my receiver.
- 15:55And if they don't, if they don't catch it, I never go back to
- 15:59them again. Ever.
- 16:00I'm like, Nope, I can't trust you.
- 16:02I am never gonna give you the ball again.
- 16:04They're not reliable. Nope, they're not reliable.
- 16:07No exactly. And we have in our careers have
- 16:11dealt with a lot of people like that, a lot of people now
- 16:15they're no longer in the business, and for good reason,
- 16:18because eventually it's going to catch up with you.
- 16:21Right. Especially the ones who talk the
- 16:23talk and make. Oh God, yes.
- 16:25Make you think that they're going to be able to catch,
- 16:27they're going to be able to do whatever it is you're needing
- 16:30them to do. Like you just said, if you're
- 16:31throwing them to pass and then you you throw it to them and
- 16:35like you said they completely drop the ball or fumble it
- 16:38however you want to word it and and you can never trust them
- 16:41again. And yeah, I had to approve that
- 16:43there. Yeah, we're they were all.
- 16:45Talk and no action. Basically, well, and, and it's
- 16:48one of those things where it's like, and I'm not going to, I'm
- 16:50going to, I'm not going to name names on now because I don't
- 16:52want to get in trouble. But but I, I let a guy go
- 16:56because he got up during the middle of his live shift and
- 17:00went and did his taxes. I don't know if you recall that,
- 17:03Michelle, no. Oh, wait, no, no, I do know.
- 17:06You know who I'm talking about. Yes, yes.
- 17:09Yes, in the middle of their life.
- 17:10So I cut. So I get there about 8:00.
- 17:12They have their backpack. They're heading out.
- 17:13I'm like, where are you going? You still got another hour or
- 17:16two hours on your show. Oh, I got to go see my tax man.
- 17:18Oh God, I'm like, what's? I remember?
- 17:22I let him go. Yeah.
- 17:24Fast forwarding to the fact that we have all these computerized
- 17:27systems now that run radio stations and people are voice
- 17:29tracked in. And at that time it wasn't quite
- 17:33as bad. It was starting to get there.
- 17:35Yeah, and I mean he, I mean he, yes, he was, but he was.
- 17:38Still had live shows that we he was, he was.
- 17:40It wasn't. Voice tracked, Yeah.
- 17:43Right. But that even then like we were
- 17:45not allowed to do that if we were expected to have a live
- 17:50show though back then. Why would you want to do that?
- 17:53I guess. No, I wouldn't want to.
- 17:55Like I loved being live. I hated it when we start had to
- 17:58start voice tracking or voice tracking anything like I hated
- 18:01voice. Tracking.
- 18:01So it was pain. So, yeah.
- 18:03So, so that one time I let somebody go because, yeah, in
- 18:05the middle of their show, they were like, I'm going to go to my
- 18:07tax guy. Another time in tri-cities, the
- 18:10morning guy left the show to go talk to his lawyer.
- 18:13He was going through a divorce, but and that's sad.
- 18:16It's sad. No, it's sad.
- 18:18It's sad. But he literally left his show.
- 18:22But he left his show and I fired him.
- 18:24Yes, schedule. Go at a different time.
- 18:26You don't have to go right then and there.
- 18:29Make an appointment and go at a different time, not during your
- 18:32show. Yeah.
- 18:34Well, the important thing, I mean, to me, it's like it shows
- 18:36me the that that and I get it. Hey, different strokes for
- 18:39different folks. But, but, but if that's where
- 18:43you're supposed to be, you just can't.
- 18:46You just can't get up. And I don't know.
- 18:48So now, now the good news for folks that are listening There's
- 18:51nobody left in radio there. Isn't, I mean I just envisioned
- 18:57like the quarterback on the field going, oh, sorry, I got to
- 19:00go do my tax. Yes.
- 19:03Yes, I got to go see my lawyers. I'm getting a divorce, right?
- 19:07Exactly what are you doing? You know, which is the hilarity
- 19:10is now that you mentioned that that's that's a very NFL thing
- 19:13to say because they're so rich, they do go see their tax person
- 19:17and and they do go to a divorce. So and if they're not doing it,
- 19:22they're not doing it during a game.
- 19:23Why would you be doing it at work?
- 19:26So anyway, it was just interesting that I, I think it's
- 19:29interesting that no matter how successful that these folks are,
- 19:33you still get cut. And that just kind of sort of
- 19:35reminded me of the radio thing. So, so the delivery guy parks
- 19:45right in front of the house. Like why?
- 19:49Why he's part. We're not.
- 19:51We're not getting anything right now.
- 19:53But your neighbors are, and so he's going to park right there.
- 19:57And then he's going to. Go deliver all the packages to
- 19:59all the other neighbors while his man sits there and the dogs
- 20:03know the because my dogs are the same way.
- 20:05Yes, I'm like, why are you literally like right there?
- 20:08I mean, it's driving me nuts. And then so he's upstairs
- 20:12destroying the upstairs because the van is right there.
- 20:15And it's like, I don't get it. I don't get it.
- 20:17Why? You know why?
- 20:18In front of our house. I don't.
- 20:21Know now he's leaving, so there's nothing special about
- 20:24our house. Just so you know, there's no
- 20:25reason, there's nothing. Special where I have AU shaped
- 20:29driveway and so a lot of times that they will sit and park in
- 20:33our driveway and re whatever they're doing with their
- 20:36packages and then so they sit there for a while and then they
- 20:40take off and our dogs are losing their damn minds the entire time
- 20:43because they know the vehicles like my dog see them.
- 20:47Crossing on the road. And start losing their minds.
- 20:50They don't even pull into her driveway.
- 20:52And so now it's a funny thing is because the postal is electric,
- 20:58they don't hear the postal, but if they see it, they know what
- 21:01it is. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:02And now they're all going nuts. Okay well now they're calm and
- 21:05now we can move on cuz I wanna ask you if you are on blue sky,
- 21:09are you on blue sky at all? Cuz I.
- 21:11Search for you. I am.
- 21:13I am. What are you under?
- 21:14I'm sure I'm under Rick Michaels.
- 21:16I tried looking for you when you did not come up so.
- 21:19I did not, no. When everybody was bailing, was
- 21:23it? Was everybody bailing on X?
- 21:25Yes, Twitter. Yeah, so I have.
- 21:26I still call it Twitter. Yeah, that's when I left too.
- 21:29So I've been on it for a while, probably well over a year here.
- 21:33OK, OK. Well, OK.
- 21:35Well, you'll have to like, yeah, you'll have to look for me and
- 21:38find me and then we could follow each other.
- 21:40But. Rick Michaels dot rickmichaels
- 21:44Rik Michaels dot Sky dot Social. Huh, okay, well, I'll look it's
- 21:49either that or I don't know you didn't even pop up under like
- 21:52I'm following you, so I don't know.
- 21:56I don't know anyway, like I've been on it for a while and and
- 22:01I'm starting to become more active on it, especially lately
- 22:04because a lot of people are leaving Twitter and recently
- 22:07because of the Twitter refugees is what they're calling
- 22:10themselves. Especially, you know, with the
- 22:11recent stuff with the AI Grok or whatever the fuck it is and how
- 22:16it was allowing people to make inappropriate pictures and
- 22:19videos with, you know, women and kids pictures.
- 22:23I mean, gross, horrible stuff. And so a lot of people that had
- 22:26stuck it out on Twitter were finally, they finally bailed and
- 22:30they've all been on Blue Sky. And so now or they've all kind
- 22:32of migrated to Blue Sky. And so now I've been a lot more
- 22:35active on it. And so as I'm active on it more,
- 22:40I'm learning more about it. And so one of the things is Blue
- 22:44Sky has what's called starter packs.
- 22:46And basically it takes like a group of people, let's say for
- 22:49example, it takes a group of like fans of Richard Page.
- 22:53So they would put like a Richard Page starter pack fan club.
- 22:57And then at the top you can choose to follow all.
- 23:01So it'd be like all these like you, you would be in there and
- 23:04whoever else and you follow all. Well, because of this somehow,
- 23:09and I ended up in a few starter packs, which I thought was
- 23:11awesome. But because of this, I ended up
- 23:14in, it's called the moderation list, I think.
- 23:17And then when you're, when you follow the moderation list, then
- 23:21it tells you who blocks you so you can see people that block
- 23:26you. I know it.
- 23:27First off, it's the weirdest thing and the best thing, it's
- 23:30just weird. It's kind of like like, OK,
- 23:32you're I don't even know you and you're blocking me.
- 23:34It's bizarre, but I like it. And then someone on Blue Sky
- 23:38told me they were like, well, you know, these people are
- 23:41blocking you so you can't see them, but they can still see you
- 23:45unless you go in and block them. And so then I was like, oh,
- 23:49snap. And so I went in and started
- 23:51blocking all the people that have blocked me.
- 23:52I had no idea who these people are.
- 23:54It's. It's weird, but.
- 23:58That's where I've. Been yeah, or no worries or it's
- 24:02based on like like what you have in your bio or who you're
- 24:05following or what group you're in.
- 24:07It's it's crazy. It's like, OK, I understand you
- 24:11don't want your feed to look crazy with different things.
- 24:15But again, some of them I'm like, we have the same interest.
- 24:19Like that's why I started following you and now you're
- 24:22blocking me. I don't understand so of this.
- 24:24But anyway, it's weird and I'll have to look for you now.
- 24:28So that's my little. It would be Michelle Matthews.
- 24:33That's my little take on Blue Sky.
- 24:35Yeah. There you go.
- 24:36So now I just followed you. OK, OK, then I'll follow you
- 24:40back. Same but.
- 24:41Yeah. Yeah, I could not find you like
- 24:43I searched you and I couldn't. Find you our.
- 24:46Friend Our friend John Taylor's on there.
- 24:48He and I have been following each other.
- 24:49For a while I have a whopping. I have a whopping to followers
- 24:52probably like I'm just I'm. Rocking I'm up to like a couple
- 24:55thousand now so. My goodness.
- 24:58I'm, I told you like I've been a little bit more active if you're
- 25:01a little bit more active on it. Then I'm following Richard
- 25:04Page's brother, Rob Page. Michelle Matthews, My God, oh,
- 25:08they automatically give you they automatically give you the blue
- 25:11sky app to follow. So that's that's one of my
- 25:13followers. So yes, I'm I'm following four
- 25:15people there, but. You John Taylor's on there so
- 25:18you can follow. I'll follow.
- 25:19I'll find John Taylor so. Yeah, OK.
- 25:22Well, now that we got that all figured out, good.
- 25:23OK. Because I was like, I thought
- 25:25you said you were on it, but. I'm like I do I?
- 25:27Do I? Do for the life of me, I could
- 25:29not find you. So everything's going to be, you
- 25:32already know Rick Michaels is going to be everything but.
- 25:34But yes I bailed so I still have an X account, I just don't go on
- 25:38there. Yeah, me either somebody said to
- 25:40keep it, don't deactivate it or delete your because people then
- 25:46could make accounts with your name.
- 25:48So like say I got rid of deleted my Michelle Matthews account,
- 25:52then some other random person could pretend to be you.
- 25:56And so people were saying don't completely delete your accounts.
- 25:59They could just be inactive and just be sitting there, which is
- 26:02kind of what I've done with mine so.
- 26:03Now you're making me go find John Taylor.
- 26:06You're supposed to be focused on the podcast now, I'm finding.
- 26:09That's not right. John Taylor what's?
- 26:10What's John Taylor under? I can't remember.
- 26:14He and I have been following each other for a while, so I
- 26:16think he kind of left Twitter at around the same time or maybe
- 26:19even before me, but. Oh yeah, I so I left.
- 26:22So it's not that I jumped on. I mean, I did jump on Blue Sky
- 26:25immediately, Yeah. I just didn't do anything.
- 26:27On yeah, I wasn't really super active until recently, so yeah.
- 26:31Yeah. So I'll have to go find John.
- 26:33There's a bunch of John Taylors, but not.
- 26:34Yeah, yeah, just. Well, John Taylor is such a
- 26:38generic name. Sorry, John, you're listening.
- 26:39Yes. But yes, I got.
- 26:43I've got blue skies, so you'll go.
- 26:45Find. Okay, good.
- 26:46All right, well, now we can follow each other.
- 26:48And then I can then I can block you, yes.
- 26:52Or yeah, and then I'll see in the moderation list that you
- 26:54blocked me and it'll. Be like, that's right, that's
- 26:56right, that's right. Blocked me.
- 26:58What's going on? Why?
- 26:59He blocked you. He blocked you exactly.
- 27:01Yeah. All right.
- 27:02I have a question. So I saw this on Reddit a guy
- 27:05that was he posts this question and he asked do you mind if
- 27:11other guys call you buddy? Oh yeah.
- 27:15Hey buddy. And so then I went, oh, yeah.
- 27:21Like, as a woman, I hate it. I have always hated it.
- 27:25No, I hate it when say you you see a Bart, you order a drink
- 27:31and the bartender is like, hey, sweetie.
- 27:33Hey, babe. Hey, like I hate.
- 27:35It when guys do that to me as a woman, like a guy you just met
- 27:40or even guys that I know and they would say that and I might
- 27:44be a little bit more sensitive because I'm a blonde, but I do
- 27:47know other women that are not blonde.
- 27:49They don't like it either when they're called sweetheart or
- 27:52honey or, you know, whatever it is.
- 27:54So I was just like, so then that made me think like, well, are
- 27:58guys the same? Like seeing that question posed,
- 28:02I was like, oh, well, yeah. Like would guys be offended by
- 28:06that or do they call each other buddy or so I was just curious
- 28:11your thought as the man in the podcast.
- 28:14So Micah Cephas once pointed out to me many years ago, many years
- 28:19ago, he goes, he goes, Rick, every woman you call by their
- 28:22first name and every dude is buddy.
- 28:26He goes, you do, he goes. You don't even bother to get to
- 28:28know their name. But everybody goes.
- 28:30Every woman. Oh, you know every woman and you
- 28:33call him by their name. Yeah, goes but.
- 28:35But if it's a guy, he goes. He goes.
- 28:37Hey buddy, Remember he always used to go Hey buddy, hey buddy,
- 28:40hey buddy and it always made me laugh that I.
- 28:46Did you call, like, little kids that?
- 28:49Yeah. And out at.
- 28:50Really. Boots or whatever.
- 28:52But it really did you. Don't remember you calling a guy
- 28:54that. No, I did.
- 28:55Oh, yeah, no, he used to joke about it all the time.
- 28:57He's like, hey, buddy. Hey buddy.
- 28:59So yeah. So he always made the joke that
- 29:01every woman I know by name and every dude is Buddy so.
- 29:05That is factual. I.
- 29:07Do so, so I don't have a problem with it.
- 29:13Yeah, as a guy, I've heard my husband, he he uses Bud.
- 29:19So it's like, hey Bud, he does it with our kids, but I've heard
- 29:23him do it to like to his Co workers or people that work for
- 29:28him. And sometimes to me it sounds
- 29:31almost a little condescending. I'm kind of like, oh, like I
- 29:35don't know if you should use that word or maybe just how he
- 29:39says it. I don't know.
- 29:40But I kind of like, oh, like. I will like, well, anything and
- 29:43everything that you do is is how you say it at the end of the
- 29:46day. So to me, for me buddy is, I
- 29:49mean, that's just a hey, buddy. I mean, I don't, I don't find
- 29:52that derogatory. I.
- 29:55Was like hey buddy, hey buddy. To you now.
- 29:58Now, I do agree with you. Besides Micah.
- 30:01I agree with some. Randomized.
- 30:03Sweetie or honey, if I was a woman, I would not like any of
- 30:06that. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:08Because that really, I've always felt that that's demeaning.
- 30:10Yes, yeah. I oh, here's my thing too.
- 30:13This is what I've never understood.
- 30:14I think you and I've had this conversation is I have never
- 30:18understood why women like when they meet a dude at the bar,
- 30:22right and the dude goes, Oh, you're so hot.
- 30:28I'm like, really women, women, It's like it's like what you
- 30:35know, you're beautiful, your eye, your eyes are pretty.
- 30:38What I don't, I don't. And women just go, Oh, I love
- 30:41him. Oh my God, but I love him.
- 30:43I'm like, he's a fucking Neanderthal.
- 30:45He's a he scrapes his knuckles along the ground and the only
- 30:48thing he can say to you is you're hot.
- 30:49You're. Hot, right?
- 30:51A lot of times that is because we are, it's some form of
- 30:54attention. Like, yeah, like you might not
- 30:57view it as positive attention and it isn't just it isn't, but
- 31:02to women and it's some kind of attention and positive attention
- 31:08and it feeds our insecurities. I think a lot of it is where
- 31:11that snums from. So when you so that drives me
- 31:14that I've always thought that was insane.
- 31:16So the first time you need to do though, you're hot.
- 31:17Yeah, you're the guy, I mean. We all love to be told like,
- 31:21we're hot, we're pretty, we're beautiful, especially as women.
- 31:25And so, yeah, you'll soak that up, especially someone that
- 31:29you've just met, like, oh, you're so hot.
- 31:32And especially at a bar because there are other women, a ton of
- 31:35other women. And so you're being told that
- 31:38you're hot by this one guy at the bar when you're in this bar
- 31:41with all these other hot women. And so then that makes you feel
- 31:44your ratchet. Ratchet is up your confidence
- 31:46and you feel like. But but.
- 31:49This guy thinks I'm hot. Not all these other women, you
- 31:52know, It's just, it's, it's weird.
- 31:53Yeah, but I don't. You think as a woman, a guy
- 31:57approaching you going, you've got a you've got a great smile
- 32:00or you've got you. Oh, I love your eyes.
- 32:04Yes, I. Guess that would be nice your
- 32:05your hook but. What guy would, what guys do you
- 32:10know, walk up to women and say, oh, I like your eyes or like
- 32:13your smile? I'm I don't, I don't know.
- 32:15I have never been told that so. But but, but from a women's
- 32:20perspective, is, is that better? To me it's better.
- 32:25I think it's better. It's better as far as there,
- 32:29there would be more true intention there.
- 32:33Like if, if a guy walks up to you and like, oh, like.
- 32:36I like your eyes. Or your smile right then that
- 32:38he's not just there to just one night stand you, like you with
- 32:42you that. But the guy that's like, oh,
- 32:45you're hot. Like obviously he just wants to
- 32:47sleep with you. Like you have to know, like what
- 32:49all this means as a woman and understand that.
- 32:52Yeah, like the dude that is like, oh, you're hot.
- 32:54Like he just wants to sleep with you.
- 32:55But at the same time, it is feeding our insecurities and it
- 32:59makes us feel good. That doesn't mean we're going to
- 33:01go sleep with him either, though.
- 33:02But. Depends at the bar.
- 33:04It just depends on yummy, yeah. It depends on the women.
- 33:09I mean, I've always, for me, I I've always struggled with that,
- 33:12that I never understood that beautiful, intelligent women can
- 33:19be with the most Neanderthal male.
- 33:23You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
- 33:24And then and now then they and they end up breaking up, of
- 33:27course, because at the end of the day, you know, he not, he
- 33:30not, he not, he doesn't care about your brains.
- 33:32No, you know, he doesn't, he doesn't care about your
- 33:33feelings. He doesn't care about your
- 33:35emotions, any of that stuff. All he, all he cares about is he
- 33:37gets what he got, He got, you know, and that's it.
- 33:40So, and I always just, I just find that I just find that
- 33:44curious. I just, to me it's like, and now
- 33:46again, I have not been bar hopping.
- 33:49I have not picked up women at bars because I just don't.
- 33:51That's just not my trying to think trying to think of.
- 33:55Whatever happened because you don't drink?
- 33:57So have you ever like during your date when you divorced
- 34:00Pokey, before you met Megan? During like your dating phase?
- 34:03Did you meet living at bars? I don't mean you don't drink.
- 34:07So I mean, unless you. Were there with somebody else,
- 34:09right? Like.
- 34:11I don't recall ever trying to pick somebody up at a bar like
- 34:15it. Like, well, you've been married
- 34:16to Jay forever, so. Right.
- 34:18Right. So did you ever go to a bar and
- 34:20get picked up by somebody? Well, yeah, when I first turned
- 34:2321, OK, we were broke up because we were broke up on an awful lot
- 34:27when I was younger because, you know, you're young and stupid.
- 34:30OK. I mean, I would get picked, I
- 34:33wouldn't go home with them, but I got hit on and.
- 34:37When you. First turned 21.
- 34:38Like you're going out like Cray Cray.
- 34:40I mean, I've never, I never, I've never picked somebody up at
- 34:45the bar. I've gone to a bar with somebody
- 34:48and did. You like try to meet women at
- 34:52the bar or. No, I met them at the bar.
- 34:55So I met. So I met them.
- 34:57Yeah. I.
- 34:57Mean you met You met the woman at the bar.
- 35:00I mean. I'm talking about like you're
- 35:01there. Let's say say you're there with
- 35:03Micah. You and Micah are like.
- 35:05I don't recall and I don't recall I so, so many years ago,
- 35:10many years ago. Well, when I first moved to
- 35:13tri-cities, I did go to, I did go to a bar.
- 35:16I was with a bunch of station people and there was a gal that
- 35:21I did try to pick up. I got her number.
- 35:24Oh. Nice, I got her number but but
- 35:26then I what was your? Happening like what did you walk
- 35:30up to her and like I give. You.
- 35:32I don't know. No, we danced.
- 35:34We danced. I asked her to dance.
- 35:35I mean, the people were dancing, so I asked her to dance.
- 35:38We danced. And yeah, I think I ended up
- 35:40but. But it was interesting because
- 35:44she she hung out for a little bit and then she went away and I
- 35:49had to go find her. And I'm like, OK, this isn't
- 35:51going to work out. Oh, why?
- 35:53Because she went away and so. Well, she just went on to, I
- 35:57don't know, fine, I don't know. Like scope out the room and.
- 36:00I don't know what I don't know. I you know, I don't know.
- 36:03I don't know anything about bar flies.
- 36:04So he went. Oh.
- 36:09I don't know. You have to educate me on that.
- 36:11You know, I'm not making as Megan says, Megan says you make
- 36:13assumptions. You make assumptions.
- 36:15I mean, she could have been scoping out her options.
- 36:18She. Could have, she could have, you
- 36:21know, So I will, I will tell you this.
- 36:24At that time I was a much younger man's probably well,
- 36:27gosh, I've been with Megan 17 years.
- 36:29So that's probably 20 years younger or whatever, late, late
- 36:3330s. But even then, late 30s, that
- 36:36means the average bar person is what, 2526?
- 36:39Yeah. 24, Yeah, I would think so easily.
- 36:43Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:44Because don't, I mean, not to say that people don't go to the
- 36:46bar, but a lot of them have died out in the early 30s, right?
- 36:50They you should, but then you should be in a stable
- 36:54relationship and you kind of moved on from the bar phase, but
- 36:58I'm not everybody. I I get it.
- 37:01No, I get it. And so that's why as as a 21
- 37:05year old, you'll see these 50 some year old creepers at the
- 37:08bar, you know, or they've been married and divorced and they
- 37:11end up back reliving their youth going to the bars all the time.
- 37:16You know that happens a lot too, so.
- 37:18But what's amazing to me, it's like, it's like, well, on the on
- 37:23the flip side, I guess it's like what what at 50 plus years old
- 37:26do I have to offer a 21 year old?
- 37:29Right. Like what?
- 37:30What do you have in common? Unless you're rich, yes, that's
- 37:36about great. You're the shit.
- 37:37Daddy, basically. Yeah, well, Even so, even Megan
- 37:40and I, it's funny, even Megan. I, Megan and I are nine years
- 37:43difference, right? And musically, she can't stand
- 37:46my music. Right.
- 37:48She calls it Yacht Rock. She's I can't stand your yacht,
- 37:50Rock. So she's right.
- 37:53Yeah, so, well, that's that's right because you're Megane age,
- 37:55right? You're close to.
- 37:56You're closer to. Megan older.
- 37:58I'm older. Than Megan Megan Megane, 46.
- 38:02Right, I'm 5051. Right, so 51 so her so her music
- 38:07is she loves Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and Tim.
- 38:11And to me, I like I like Survivor and RSP wagon and and
- 38:15sticks and journey. I mean, because it's just my
- 38:17era, you know, right. So, so yeah, it's interesting,
- 38:20even with nine years apart, how much different we are just in
- 38:24terms of our taste. Right, which I was just that's
- 38:27funny because I was just reading there is a New York socialite.
- 38:31She's like super popular on Instagram at TikTok and she's a
- 38:34real estate agent and she gives advice to women on dating.
- 38:39And I just read where she said it's not true.
- 38:43The opposites do not attract. And I was like, oh, I was like,
- 38:47oh, Dang, OK. Like, that could ruffle some
- 38:50feathers with people. But she's just giving her advice
- 38:53and how she sees it. And she's telling women, you
- 38:55know, you have to get out there and talk to people.
- 38:58Like, if you go to a bar, like talk to the woman to the right,
- 39:01talk to the guy to the left. You have to start talking to
- 39:05people and making friends. And and I'm thinking everybody
- 39:09is so used to these dating apps and apps and with COVID, we were
- 39:13stuck inside and that made it worse.
- 39:15Now we are more introverted. I feel like as a society.
- 39:18And so I think it's great that she is telling people this, but
- 39:23for a lot of people, that's more difficult to do now than ever, I
- 39:27feel like. But do you?
- 39:28And she's not wrong. I actually, I don't think she's
- 39:31wrong. I don't.
- 39:32I don't think that I think #1 relationships are work.
- 39:35That is the truth. It is.
- 39:37No matter like that's why I don't have Real Housewives.
- 39:41All those bitches have a lot of money, but they I still have
- 39:43problems. This right, right.
- 39:45So relationships, relationships are Yep, are, are hard, you
- 39:49know, like Logan and I've gone around around about that.
- 39:52It's like he goes, man, he goes, he goes.
- 39:54You never cuddle with Megan. You're not watching a movie with
- 39:56a blanket and cuddling like #1 Megan is not will never be a
- 40:00she's never been a cuddler. Like it's just not in her
- 40:03nature. So that's not, that's not going
- 40:05to work out that. Way you're you're like I know.
- 40:08Well, well, because again, being being no and that and The funny
- 40:12thing, it's not because she want to.
- 40:13Oh, as my wife says, it's not that she won't cuddle.
- 40:16It's I'm a man. Oh, it won't just end at the
- 40:20cuddling. Well, that's what.
- 40:22She's right. She just says you she she goes
- 40:24as a man, you can't just cuddle. No, you're if you're coming to
- 40:28cuddle, that you're expecting something.
- 40:30Oh gosh, as a as a male, I don't know about Jay.
- 40:34I don't know if Jay's one of those great guys that.
- 40:36Oh no, we can cuddle and that's it.
- 40:38Like. What?
- 40:40Yeah, especially on the couch because we remember we got the
- 40:43little dual reclining love seat. Oh my gosh.
- 40:46Oh my God. So so the hilarity.
- 40:49So. Yeah, we'll cuddle on the couch
- 40:50and share the blanket, but that doesn't mean that you know
- 40:54anything's going to transpire from it.
- 40:57So in our house, he. Expects it.
- 40:59So in our house, it's hilarious because Megan refuses to come
- 41:03downstairs to the family room on the couch because the dogs are
- 41:07always on that couch. So, so dog hair or whatever.
- 41:10I mean, we do clean it, but but still, it's where the dogs are
- 41:13always at. And so, so there's the big TV
- 41:16downstairs. It's where I'm at usually with
- 41:18the dogs. And then she's upstairs.
- 41:20She has her own couch that she bought and so she's on.
- 41:24Nice and clean. Yeah, there's, that's exactly
- 41:29what happened. So, so in terms of cuddling,
- 41:32it's not like we can sit and cuddle together because and and
- 41:36in our household, if I if I stop anywhere, the dogs try to
- 41:40dogpile me. I was going to say you would
- 41:42have three dogs in between you even if you did and.
- 41:46Every every situation, the dogs are always in the same room that
- 41:50I'm at. They just, they just are.
- 41:52So it kind of ruins all of, you know, any of that, that normal
- 41:56relationship stuff because the dogs are, you know, even as
- 41:59we're doing this podcast, right, They're they're they're over
- 42:02there trying. Their two cents in the podcast.
- 42:04They do. They always say, yeah, So it's
- 42:06one of those things where it's so, yeah.
- 42:08So it's funny that yeah, that cuddling or any of that trying
- 42:11to even. And then if I try it, she's
- 42:13like, what? What do you want?
- 42:15Because she knows. Now I will tell you the
- 42:18exception I have made, and I talk about this in my book
- 42:23because I used to have to rub Missus Wallace's feet.
- 42:26Oh yeah, I remember the first time you told me about that and
- 42:29I just. I so for for a billion years, I
- 42:34don't rub feet because to me it's a subservient situation or
- 42:39a traumatic place for me to be so, so I just, I just, I just, I
- 42:45don't do it. I just don't do it even if it's
- 42:48cuddle time, like Nope. So, but with Megan through the
- 42:52years, I've made the exception. So that's good.
- 42:55I do rub Megan. I do rub Megan's feet with the
- 42:58anticipation of getting where I need to get to.
- 43:00Never doesn't always go that way, but right.
- 43:03And that's why, because. She knows.
- 43:05That's and that's. Her that it's a big deal for you
- 43:07to do it for. Like.
- 43:09I would think like, OK, like this is a big deal for him to
- 43:13even like do this. So I.
- 43:15Think she knows. I think she knows that.
- 43:17I'm like, OK, maybe something can happen.
- 43:20Yeah, that's how I would think about it.
- 43:23Now not to say that I have not just rubbed my wifes feet and
- 43:25that's it because that's true. I have you know, I'm saying I
- 43:29have but but that's so that's that's why cuddle time kind of
- 43:33gets shot down in our house. Number one, dogs.
- 43:37Always the dogs. Dogs are just all over the
- 43:39place. Separate floors of the house,
- 43:41basically. And your house would so your do
- 43:44your dogs have to be in the same room with you guys all the time?
- 43:46No, it's the cats. So I have a blanket on our love
- 43:51seat because of the cats. The cat hair is all over it, but
- 43:55it's the cats. The dogs are.
- 43:57They don't get up on the couch because they're just so large.
- 44:00There's ginormous. And so they've never, even when
- 44:04they were younger and they would get up on the couch, they knew
- 44:07they would be in trouble. Dexter, one time, he knew he was
- 44:12not supposed to be on the couch. He was still like puppy age and
- 44:16he was not on the couch. I went upstairs and I came
- 44:18downstairs and he was on the couch and he saw me come down
- 44:23the stairs and the look of like guilt on his dog face because he
- 44:27knew he was like oh shit. Like I did not normally they
- 44:31could hear you and he did not hear me coming down the stairs.
- 44:34And so the look of guilt on him, it was funny.
- 44:37Like I laughed. But then I'm like, OK, get off
- 44:39the couch. So you're going on the.
- 44:43Furniture. No, they don't get on the
- 44:46furniture now. They didn't really very much
- 44:48when they were younger, but we've trained them not to get on
- 44:51the furniture now. If I let them in whatever
- 44:54bedroom some out of excitement, they will run and like jump on
- 44:58the bed. But then they realize what
- 45:00they're doing and they're like, oh shit.
- 45:02I'm wow, horrible. And then they jump.
- 45:04Down so they're Australian shepherds, so they're smart by
- 45:08nature, so. Hello.
- 45:10Our dogs are incredibly smart, as you know, I've got a border
- 45:12collie. I've got a border collie.
- 45:14No, they're they're even. Phoebe was like the remember,
- 45:20Phoebe was a brainiac. You know what I'm saying?
- 45:22And so. So The thing is, if I sit down
- 45:24and try to cuddle Megan, Bodie's got to get right in.
- 45:27Like it don't matter what's going down.
- 45:29Bodie will climb up. He'll stretch out.
- 45:31He'll do you could push him. He'll come back.
- 45:34Keep coming. He keeps coming back for more.
- 45:36He doesn't. I feel like pets like sleeping
- 45:40with you or that kind of stuff is worse than a toddler
- 45:44sleeping. With.
- 45:44Yes is horrible yeah, but I feel like sleeping with pets
- 45:47sometimes is worse. Like my cat, she will come in
- 45:51the bedroom and a lot of times I don't let the cat sleep with me
- 45:54because I cannot sleep. I can't.
- 45:57It's like sleeping with one of your children.
- 45:59They're on your head and then they're like kneading your head
- 46:02and then they're like sleeping right here on your chest.
- 46:04And it's like, I can't sleep and I value my sleep.
- 46:08So you're not going to be in my room, so.
- 46:12OK, so yeah, we can't. So in our household, Barkley,
- 46:15who's dead, who's gone deaf, sadly, we'll just scratch at the
- 46:19door. He'll just scratch all.
- 46:20You just can't. You can't lock him out.
- 46:22So. So it's interesting for us.
- 46:25Bodie and Barkley both are in the bed, and Bodie stretches his
- 46:30long they're. Big dogs.
- 46:32Yeah, well, Barkley's about 40 lbs and Bodie's about 60, and so
- 46:37now Barkley's great. He'll sleep at the end of the
- 46:39bed, but it's Bodhi who's got to be and Bodhi's got to be
- 46:42touching somebody. That's just his personality, so
- 46:45he and. And usually he's wrapped in your
- 46:47legs. So when you wake up with a sore
- 46:48back or however. Because you're sleeping.
- 46:51Like this. Oh, Bodhi's hilarious.
- 46:54He'll jump up on the bed and he'll spread your legs for you
- 46:57because you're like, like, it's. It's almost like you're on a
- 46:59date. It's almost like you're on a
- 47:00date. No, Yeah.
- 47:01It's like you're almost on a date and you got your legs
- 47:04crossed and he comes up and he just, it plots himself, pulls
- 47:08himself right in the middle of your legs.
- 47:10But it's hilarious watching do it.
- 47:11He's like it's. Like you're on a date.
- 47:13Oh my. God, it's like, yeah, you're
- 47:14put, you're putting out, you're putting out, you know, And
- 47:17he'll, he'll take his pause and spread your leg and then he'll
- 47:20curl up inside your leg, basic your legs.
- 47:23I know it's. Just your dog doing that.
- 47:27That's funny. It does.
- 47:27Oh, man, it's hilarious. I mean, it's like, yeah, yeah.
- 47:30It's like, yeah. So no, no boundaries with with
- 47:33Bodhi at all. So.
- 47:34Pets usually have no boundaries. They don't, No.
- 47:37Yeah. So you were talking, you want to
- 47:39talk about David Beckham because I have not heard.
- 47:41The story say okay, what's the. Story about David Beckham.
- 47:44We're running short on time. There's so much drama.
- 47:47I was going to ask you if you've seen the drama.
- 47:49So it's between David Victoria Beckham and then their son
- 47:53Brooklyn. So all kind of like try and
- 47:55condense it because it's a lot. So Brooklyn posted A66 page post
- 48:02on his social media, right? It's just 6 pages.
- 48:05Kind of like, you know how Britney Spears just drones on
- 48:08and on. It was kind of like that where
- 48:11he talks about how his parents controlled how things looked
- 48:15they controlled. He talks about what his mom did
- 48:19his, his wedding, just some shady stuff, and then how his
- 48:25mom like wouldn't donate to the animals impacted by the fires in
- 48:29California. Just a bunch of stuff.
- 48:31And I'm going Oh my God. And then because I'm thinking,
- 48:37OK, like, you're brave because I know your parents are
- 48:42financially taking care of you. You know, David and Victoria
- 48:45have a lot of money, and so I'm sure they're in turn taking care
- 48:48of their son, right? I'm thinking, OK, like you just
- 48:51got cut off. Like what is happening?
- 48:53Well, I found out. So like his new wife, her family
- 48:57is like billionaires and so of. Course they are.
- 49:01So that's what that's how now you are OK with revealing all
- 49:07this stuff, you're OK with being financially cut off.
- 49:09Like, I'm sure that's what's happened or going to happen or
- 49:12hasn't already happened, you know?
- 49:14Mark was going to serenade the first dance.
- 49:17Mark. Yes, yes, at their wedding and
- 49:20then wasn't there something about like his mom invited his
- 49:23exes or they they were doing some kind of dance.
- 49:26I don't know. I kind of like it was 6 pages.
- 49:28I just, I tried to read through it as quickly as I could.
- 49:32Yeah, it was, it was just, it's crazy.
- 49:35It's weird to me. And and then realizing that his
- 49:39wife is rich. I'm like, OK, now this makes
- 49:42sense because now you're, you're still able to fund the lifestyle
- 49:46that you're used to. It's just now not going to be
- 49:49underneath your parents rule, basically.
- 49:51So as a parent, it's kind of heartbreaking when that happens,
- 49:56but I kind of understand why he felt free to do it and was OK
- 50:00with doing it. Finally.
- 50:02The optics look bad, but it sounds like it was a lot worse
- 50:05than probably what he posted so I'm expecting more to happen
- 50:10his. Bride is gorgeous, of course,
- 50:12because he's a beck. Yeah.
- 50:13Isn't her name like Nicola or Nicola?
- 50:15Nicola? I can't remember her name, but
- 50:17yeah. I mean they look adorable
- 50:18together as a couple. They look super cute.
- 50:20He's got, he's got David Beckham's jeans.
- 50:22I mean, yeah, he's probably, he's already a beautiful person,
- 50:26right? Before we started this podcast,
- 50:27I didn't get to read it, but I read that like David Beckham had
- 50:30responded. So I don't know what the
- 50:31response has been because we've been recording this podcast.
- 50:34So I have to go back and look. At it.
- 50:35Well, they're even upset that she didn't wear the the Beckham
- 50:38dress wear the. Dress.
- 50:39I didn't. I haven't read that.
- 50:41Yeah, so she didn't wear Victoria Beckhams dress on her
- 50:45wedding day. I guess she designed dress that
- 50:46she designed a dress, right or something.
- 50:48Yeah. Well, I mean so.
- 50:51Going with the Valentino couture instead.
- 50:54I mean, yeah, if her family has billionaires, I was, I would
- 50:58have like I would have like 5 dresses.
- 51:01My family was like. This, this could be a whole
- 51:04life. You're switching clothes five
- 51:06times before you can get down the aisle.
- 51:07Yes, yeah, that would be me. I would like stop halfway and go
- 51:11change a dress and come back and then halfway go change a dress
- 51:15and go don't. You call this like, isn't this
- 51:17what they call champagne problems?
- 51:19I mean, I mean, I, I, it's so hard to like, I know you follow
- 51:23this stuff religiously, but to me it's like.
- 51:25Religiously, I just find it interesting with something like
- 51:28this happens because it's again, the reason why I like watching
- 51:33the Real Housewives, even though I know it's reality.
- 51:36Is it reality? It's scripted to some degree,
- 51:40but still, I like seeing that people with money still have the
- 51:44same type of problems or the same kind of problems.
- 51:46And so this is kind of similar to that seeing the seeing the
- 51:49Beckhams, who like he's like Brooklyn says, kept a tight rain
- 51:54on how everything looked and the optics of it.
- 51:57And now that's kind of being shattered by their son revealing
- 52:01all this stuff. Well, it goes back to but.
- 52:04I understand as celebrities you kind of have to do that to some
- 52:07degree too. You have to protect your.
- 52:09Brand, I think it goes. That's Joe Crawford.
- 52:11Mommy Dearest is what I think. That's all the shades of what I
- 52:14think about. Why you're so angers?
- 52:16Well, think about, I mean, think about having to control your
- 52:19public persona so much. Yeah.
- 52:21And then you haven't. And then you have, again,
- 52:23complete teams controlling your public persona.
- 52:26Yeah. I mean, it's like, it's like.
- 52:29And then those teams would be controlling your kids.
- 52:33Oh yeah, absolutely so. Brooklyn.
- 52:34So Brooklyn. I think he mentioned something
- 52:36about it in one of the pages about.
- 52:40Think about the royal family. Think about the royal family
- 52:42that, you know, the future Princess, the future king.
- 52:46You know what I'm saying, George?
- 52:47I mean, he's expected to be. Now they raise them that way.
- 52:51Yes, you know that that is what is expected of you at a young
- 52:55age. And for us normal people, I'm
- 52:59yes, you expect certain things from from your kids and how they
- 53:03behave. And so I mean for us well
- 53:06commoners, that would be the closest thing I guess that
- 53:09would. Be, I think when you look at it,
- 53:12well, I think, I think it's the trade off to where I think it's
- 53:16a trade off to where you've won the genetic lottery.
- 53:19Yeah. And now there's and now there's
- 53:20rules. Now there's rules because you
- 53:22won this genetic lottery. Now there's rules.
- 53:25And that's how you manage that, you know.
- 53:29But also, because you've won this genetic lottery, you cannot
- 53:33go to a movie theater. You know, like, you'll lose some
- 53:36of those things that you and I could do as commoners and normal
- 53:39people, But I would be fine with losing my ability to go to a
- 53:43movie theater. I had billions of dollars.
- 53:45And that is the thing that ROM com movies are made of right
- 53:48there, you just said it. Those are those are the things
- 53:50that ROM com movies are made of. I, you know, it's it's like it
- 53:56all depends. I always look at like, how much
- 53:57money does it take to be happy? There's not.
- 54:00I mean, think about it, you can never ever truly be happy.
- 54:05Look at Jeff Bezos. You think he is like, like
- 54:09completely, blissfully happy. Like, sure, yeah, he just got
- 54:12married, but you know, that's going to erode over time.
- 54:16So like, yeah, you're like Uber beyond Uber rich.
- 54:21You had a bridge dismantled so your Uber yacht could get into
- 54:24whatever place that was. So you have more money than
- 54:29imaginable, but you don't think that like he has some some kind
- 54:33of problems or of. Course, I think I think it comes
- 54:39down to the person at the end. At the end of the day, no matter
- 54:41what, poor or rich, how you handle situations, that's where
- 54:45character comes in. That's the foundation of who you
- 54:48are. Right I was.
- 54:49Going to say I know some very poor people who are amazing
- 54:53people. Right.
- 54:54Absolutely. Oh my gosh, absolutely.
- 54:57There's no, there's no doubt about it that, you know, a
- 54:59dollar amount does not make you a good person or, or, you know,
- 55:02a logical person or an intelligent person or all these,
- 55:05all these different things. But it is interesting, like you
- 55:08said with the Beckhams, I mean, that'd be tough being a kid
- 55:10growing up in that environment to where it's so controlled,
- 55:13yes, on what you do and, and how you act and how you present
- 55:17yourself. But then on the flip side, we're
- 55:19going to, we're going to throw you a $40 million wedding if you
- 55:21do it. Exactly.
- 55:22And I understand, I understand where he's coming from because
- 55:25you spend your entire life being told what to do.
- 55:29Does there come a point to real like I'm not doing this?
- 55:31And especially your, your like your wedding should be
- 55:34representative of your personality and your soon to be
- 55:38brides. There should be aspects of it
- 55:42that represent your, you both and your personalities.
- 55:45And if your parents are controlling it, or I'm sure they
- 55:48had like Uber wedding planners, I'm sure, but still you would be
- 55:52involved in it. And if your parents are just
- 55:56like, well, I'm going to since I paid 40 million, this is how
- 55:59it's going to be kind of thing then.
- 56:02I read the article or they said that they're going to redo the
- 56:05wedding. So are.
- 56:06They Well, yeah, I. Mean they're going to redo it
- 56:09the way they want. So I've always appreciated the
- 56:12people who go get married and then they have a wedding later
- 56:14or they have a giant reception later.
- 56:16But yeah, because you don't like going to those kind of things
- 56:18so. I mean, I, I do.
- 56:20I mean I, well, I don't. I mean, but I, I will.
- 56:22Oh. Yeah, you didn't go to my
- 56:24wedding. I have.
- 56:25Well, John Riggs reminded me that I didn't go to his wedding
- 56:27either. So I have tried to make in my
- 56:29old age, My old age. I've made a point to do the
- 56:32things that that I. Don't want to do.
- 56:35I do it all the time now. If you were, hey, if you get
- 56:37remarried, Michelle, I'll be there.
- 56:39OK. Thanks, I'll be the ring boy.
- 56:41You did come to my 30th birthday party.
- 56:44Yeah. Did you come to the 40th?
- 56:45You did not come to the 50th that.
- 56:47Just no, I had AI think I had a remote or something.
- 56:49I I had some event going on that I couldn't come to.
- 56:52Your 50th. Yeah.
- 56:53But but I was, I was going to, but I did come to one of them.
- 56:56Yeah, I know You came the 30th, 1 was at Pete's, remember when
- 56:59you were single? So you came to that, I remember.
- 57:02That yeah, way back in the day. Well, we'd come to now, we'd
- 57:04come. We'll be there at the 55th, 1:00
- 57:06we'll be there. The 55th is our thanks.
- 57:09Well, you're going to turn 60. A ways away still.
- 57:13Still a ways away, so. Before I turned 55 or 60.
- 57:17Right, I will be years. Away are you from you're, what,
- 57:2058? My gosh, really?
- 57:22I'm going to. I'm going to be 56 in May, 56,
- 57:26so I'm four years away, four years away, four years away from
- 57:2960. I will be 60 before you're 55.
- 57:33Oh, see, so I'm sure there's going to be a big 60th birthday
- 57:36bash for you in the works that. You think so?
- 57:40Do you don't you think like Megan would throw you a big
- 57:42birthday party or? I can't recall.
- 57:46Has she thrown you? Like have you had like a 50th or
- 57:4940th or a 30th? Like.
- 57:51Milestone. I I think but not I have no
- 57:54friends so I that's probably why they they were not they were not
- 57:57well attended. That's not true.
- 57:59I mean, yeah, you have lots of friends, so.
- 58:02I, I don't, I don't know about that, but I I'll, I'll accept,
- 58:05I'll, yeah. I mean, could I, could I get a
- 58:08bunch of people there? I think I could get a bunch of
- 58:09people there if I had. Half of them would be listeners.
- 58:13I would probably love. That day to show up.
- 58:17You know, it's kind of interesting.
- 58:18I have lots of people that I absolutely adore and love.
- 58:21I just don't keep in contact with him.
- 58:24You are like not great. And that's what drives Micah,
- 58:28who's the best at He really is. He's like, he's like, gosh,
- 58:31every time I go visit Katie Cook in Nashville, she's like, oh,
- 58:33Rick, I love him so much. And he's like son of a bitch.
- 58:36He's like, he doesn't call you, he doesn't text you, he doesn't
- 58:40see you. And yet, and yet, and yet every
- 58:43time I come visit you, you're like, oh, how's Rick?
- 58:45I love him so much. Well, I mean, that's that's
- 58:48understandable. I get it.
- 58:50She's just curious about how you're doing.
- 58:52And she has a she has a relationship with you for, you
- 58:57know, that's built up over the years.
- 58:58It's not like you just became friends.
- 59:00So of course she's gonna ask about you.
- 59:03Like, if I had lunch with Micah and I hadn't seen you in a
- 59:05while, I would do the probably do the same thing.
- 59:07Like, Oh, have you talked to Rick lately?
- 59:08How is he? Well, but, but I think with
- 59:11social media, that's the power of social media.
- 59:13Anybody can reach out to me anytime.
- 59:15Right. Yeah.
- 59:16You're just like. People reaching out back.
- 59:19Yeah, right. But people.
- 59:20Do that people do. No, I'll respond.
- 59:23I'll respond if someone reaches out to me at the third.
- 59:25Time. What are you?
- 59:26Talking about yeah, so it was interesting I had a guy that I
- 59:29worked with at the skating ring, roller skating ring almost 40
- 59:33years ago reach out to me recently and in front of me on
- 59:35Facebook and yeah so I mean I and I responded back goes oh
- 59:40where you at I'm in tri-cities blah blah blah so I.
- 59:43You're good about responding to those people who just now
- 59:45friended you, but the people who have been your friends for like
- 59:4920? Or two.
- 59:49Years like we have to text you through, we know by the third
- 59:53time we have to text you 3 times for you to respond like that's
- 59:57like the three time golden rule like.
- 59:59That's true, Rick Rule. Unless, unless you said there
- 1:00:02was, unless you said that you know that you had, you had to
- 1:00:05talk like right now, you know. It's an emergency, yes.
- 1:00:08If you would say if you wrote to me SOS, then I would respond
- 1:00:12like, hey, what's going on? OK, I'm just going to say
- 1:00:14everything is SOS. OK.
- 1:00:17Going forward, do that. You'll be good.
- 1:00:21That's it for today's episode of Rick and That Michelle.
- 1:00:24Check. Thanks for hanging out with us.
