- 0:48Speaker 2: TD Garden on Thursday night and the Crack and aiming
- 0:51Speaker 2: for payback here in this next matchup over Utah, and
- 0:55Speaker 2: we'll cover more as far as topics of present day
- 0:58Speaker 2: with anders Hurst. You can hear him routinely on ninety
- 1:01Speaker 2: three to three kJ are also stepping into the host
- 1:04Speaker 2: chair along for the ride for sporadic games this season,
- 1:07Speaker 2: also part of our post game coverage from time to
- 1:09Speaker 2: time for home games at Tom's Watchbar, Andrew Seers will
- 1:13Speaker 2: be along with us here in just a Bitch Well.
- 1:15Speaker 2: The Kraken heading into the only matchup of the season
- 1:18Speaker 2: in Boston looking to run the table, but then again
- 1:22Speaker 2: fell on hard times early in period one, just like
- 1:25Speaker 2: in the previous couple of games, falling behind early, and
- 1:28Speaker 2: this time it was out of a two nothing hole
- 1:30Speaker 2: where they finally made headway on the power play.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Taylor Steven said Tip Cinema cad shot his scores five
- 1:40Speaker 3: seconds into the power play, just like last night Jared
- 1:44Speaker 3: mccadn scoring five seconds into the power play. The cracket
- 1:48Speaker 3: tolman it dear circle up top bod tour one time
- 1:51Speaker 3: drives it Why Tolman it puts it back?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Hey scoress.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Ellie tovenant on the power plane goes up under the
- 2:02Speaker 4: costbar on swaymen had the cracket pulled back to it
- 2:08Speaker 4: in won three two, seven thirty three.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Left in the second well.
- 2:12Speaker 5: The Crack can get three shots on that power play
- 2:15Speaker 5: and it's the one at the end from Brandon Montour
- 2:17Speaker 5: after he comes back to the ice after receiving the
- 2:20Speaker 5: slash that started that power play, puts a bomb in
- 2:23Speaker 5: from the point that women has difficulty controlling the rebound on.
- 2:26Speaker 5: It's Tolvenan who finds it, smashes it home. It's three
- 2:30Speaker 5: two Boston now side.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Mail stat to Mintion it up top.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Low Rye fires and a massive glove save for Joey
- 2:37Speaker 3: Decord through heavy traffic.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Seven seconds to go on Montour's penalty hit.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Ryan Lindran or Ryan Winterton rather took from behind by Steves.
- 2:47Speaker 6: Winterton wants a piece of Steves bother gonna go. Steves
- 2:51Speaker 6: drops to gouve Winterton trying to rag on them. You'll
- 2:54Speaker 6: absorbent punched down with Winterton throws one on the side
- 2:58Speaker 6: of the head, a big right hand went.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He'll drag each other down.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Wlinter Ted takes under the ground and we'll ahead on
- 3:05Speaker 3: top of him.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Charlie McAvoy sends it up the ice.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Here's Pasture Nach their side.
- 3:10Speaker 2: He suits.
- 3:11Speaker 3: He scores empty net goal on the power play for
- 3:17Speaker 3: David Pastradach. That's his third goal of the season against Seattle.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He'll ice a four to two win for Boston. So
- 3:25Speaker 2: despite the two nothing deficit, the crack And finding a
- 3:28Speaker 2: way to fight out of it at least with their
- 3:30Speaker 2: playback in the Bruin zone, but not enough as far
- 3:32Speaker 2: as the finish and the krack And falling four to
- 3:35Speaker 2: two and the only matchup of the regular season at
- 3:37Speaker 2: TD guarding the two teams splitting the season series one
- 3:41Speaker 2: and one as the Kracking got goals from Chandler Stevenson
- 3:44Speaker 2: and Ellie Tolbnen and the Bruins offense coming Curtesy, Maroth,
- 3:47Speaker 2: Houstin Dianov, Victor Arbinson, Markastlik and empty net goal by
- 3:52Speaker 2: David Postronach. So the krack And trying to get out
- 3:55Speaker 2: of back to back loss is either in regulation or
- 3:58Speaker 2: in overtime and with that entered this game still third
- 4:02Speaker 2: in the Pacific Division. Entering game forty seven of the
- 4:05Speaker 2: regular season, the Mammoth of twenty four to twenty and
- 4:08Speaker 2: four fifty two points as well, and they'll face the
- 4:11Speaker 2: Cracking team looking to end to run of five straight
- 4:14Speaker 2: games giving up the first goal of the game. But
- 4:16Speaker 2: what does it mean to the overall scope of a
- 4:19Speaker 2: good start versus a slow start? Well at Coach Lane,
- 4:22Speaker 2: Lambert answering that and more meeting with the media after
- 4:25Speaker 2: the game in Boston on Thursday, shortly before we get
- 4:29Speaker 2: to our conversation with andrews Hurst.
- 4:31Speaker 7: The team at the time on the first period that
- 4:34Speaker 7: we made two mistakes and they capitalize on them both.
- 4:37Speaker 7: But I thought, I thought we started the game fine.
- 4:40Speaker 7: Two mistakes during the back of the net. It wasn't
- 4:43Speaker 7: like you know, I've said we've had slow starts in
- 4:46Speaker 7: the past. I didn't think we started the game slow.
- 4:49Speaker 7: Don't let the score fool you into thinking we started slow.
- 4:54Speaker 8: Think I was just going to say the rest of
- 4:56Speaker 8: the first period proved that. I mean, they were the
- 5:00Speaker 8: and lots of good scoring.
- 5:01Speaker 7: Chants before the game. Before the goals were scored, we
- 5:04Speaker 7: were on our toes. So you know, I mean, you
- 5:08Speaker 7: gotta you gotta take a real look at the overview
- 5:11Speaker 7: and not just jump to conclusions. Oh g it's too nothing,
- 5:15Speaker 7: that's a slow start. Actually we made two mistakes. I
- 5:18Speaker 7: thought there was a couple of goals that I think
- 5:21Speaker 7: we'd like back, and you know, and there there's your
- 5:25Speaker 7: difference in the game. Bring him on to our getting back.
- 5:27Speaker 5: What'd you think of his game?
- 5:29Speaker 7: I thought he was great. I thought he was skating,
- 5:32Speaker 7: controlling the play. He had the puck on his stick.
- 5:34Speaker 7: He had a couple of glorious opportunities. Unfortunately, apparently the
- 5:38Speaker 7: sticks break too easily these days. You know, he was physical.
- 5:42Speaker 7: I thought he was really good.
- 5:44Speaker 8: You had a power play, two power players scores tonight,
- 5:47Speaker 8: did you would you like from those guys?
- 5:49Speaker 7: They were? They were really good in the power play
- 5:51Speaker 7: as well, And I'll tell you that. You know, there
- 5:53Speaker 7: was opportunity on the other ones, and both units were
- 5:55Speaker 7: good tonight. So I thought we mixed it around well.
- 5:59Speaker 7: But you know, you look for your power play to
- 6:02Speaker 7: make a difference at big moments. Uh, and they're not
- 6:06Speaker 7: always going to do it. But you know, to score
- 6:10Speaker 7: that first goal after we had gone down to nothing,
- 6:12Speaker 7: and to score it in the fashion that we did
- 6:14Speaker 7: within probably about five seconds of the face off, I
- 6:16Speaker 7: thought that was an outstanding job by them.
- 6:19Speaker 8: Brian Winterton takes off the gloves and puts one up
- 6:23Speaker 8: for the team.
- 6:23Speaker 7: Yeah, good for him. Uh, you know, I mean that's uh,
- 6:26Speaker 7: that's hockey. And you know he handled himself quite well.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Uh.
- 6:31Speaker 7: You know, there's uh, there's emotion involved in it was
- 6:34Speaker 7: an emotional game.
- 6:35Speaker 2: That's your reaction from Cracking head coach Lane Lambert after
- 6:37Speaker 2: the Crack and fell Ford to the Boston Bruins and
- 6:40Speaker 2: joining us now. It's uh, I believe been a while,
- 6:43Speaker 2: not the first time on Cracking this morning. That's the
- 6:46Speaker 2: world famous anders Hurst. You can course hear him one
- 6:49Speaker 2: to three week days on the Ian Ferness Show on
- 6:51Speaker 2: these airways, but also from time to time jumping on
- 6:54Speaker 2: with us in the host chair on the Global Credit
- 6:57Speaker 2: Union Crack and Audio Network, and he was nominal once
- 7:01Speaker 2: again against the Rangers and the Devils as well. Anders Hello,
- 7:07Speaker 2: after about two days off the Krack, can now get
- 7:10Speaker 2: a Mattine game, or whether it's just say one day
- 7:12Speaker 2: off the Crack and get a Mattine game against the
- 7:14Speaker 2: Utah manmoth. So ain't no rest for the wicked? Is
- 7:18Speaker 2: that right?
- 7:18Speaker 8: Yeah? I mean I don't know about world famous, but
- 7:21Speaker 8: the checks in the mail for that intro really appreciate that.
- 7:24Speaker 2: No, Yeah, it's it's road trip.
- 7:26Speaker 8: I think pretty good so far. I would take the
- 7:28Speaker 8: results at this point a little tough one against Boston,
- 7:32Speaker 8: but well we look forward to Utah.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Now from the loss the Kraken had at Boston, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: we we tend to look at the score component of
- 7:40Speaker 2: this and immediately assign a brand that it was a
- 7:44Speaker 2: slow start, and let'sten, let's let's let's make no mistake,
- 7:47Speaker 2: I mean, you fall behind too. Nothing is not exactly
- 7:49Speaker 2: what you had go to script here. But what what really,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I think, you know, caught my eye in my ear,
- 7:54Speaker 2: was Lane Lambert really asserting himself to the media that
- 7:58Speaker 2: it wasn't really so much a low start in his eyes,
- 8:01Speaker 2: because the krack and kept tilting ice right back toward
- 8:04Speaker 2: the Boston zone. And really the only two Larium mistakes
- 8:07Speaker 2: that they had wound up in the back of their
- 8:09Speaker 2: own net and period one. But unfortunately that was a difference.
- 8:12Speaker 8: Yeah, and it's now the fifth game in a row
- 8:14Speaker 8: that the opposing team has scored first in against the Kraken,
- 8:19Speaker 8: and of course the previous two before the New Jersey game,
- 8:23Speaker 8: they came out with victories. Sorry, previous three, they came
- 8:27Speaker 8: out with victories in that one, so they're able to
- 8:29Speaker 8: come back and overcome these quote unquote slow starts. But
- 8:32Speaker 8: as we've talked about so many times on postgame and everything,
- 8:36Speaker 8: just because maybe you give up the first goal does
- 8:38Speaker 8: not mean necessarily that you're playing bad hockey. It's just
- 8:41Speaker 8: when you give up one opportunity, it happens to be
- 8:44Speaker 8: a Grade A, and you know, sometimes you get to save,
- 8:46Speaker 8: sometimes you don't. But if you are creating chances in
- 8:49Speaker 8: a volume game effort, as we've talked about also recently,
- 8:53Speaker 8: that's showing that you're still doing the right process in
- 8:58Speaker 8: order to give yourself more offen and hopefully get a response.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Gole right away. What do we make out of Brandon
- 9:03Speaker 2: Montour back in the lineup?
- 9:05Speaker 8: I mean, you know me, I'm a big Monteur fan
- 9:08Speaker 8: as there is on I put that one on a
- 9:10Speaker 8: te for you.
- 9:11Speaker 2: By the way, you really did I mean, I don't know.
- 9:13Speaker 8: I saw everything that I needed to see tonight. He
- 9:16Speaker 8: gets thrown right into the deep end on the power
- 9:18Speaker 8: play unit, stirring things up with Jeremy Swayman with Nikita Zadorov.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I was a little worried.
- 9:26Speaker 8: When they slashed him in the hand. It looked like
- 9:28Speaker 8: it was the same hand they got surgery. But he
- 9:30Speaker 8: came on on that power play and created the power
- 9:34Speaker 8: play goal for Ellie Tolvien to score to get them
- 9:37Speaker 8: kind of back into the game at three to two.
- 9:39Speaker 8: So it definitely was a good sign. He was doing
- 9:42Speaker 8: everything that I've always seen Brandon Montour do do both
- 9:45Speaker 8: ends of the ice, taking his big shot from the
- 9:48Speaker 8: right side there, you know, creating offense, but also doing
- 9:52Speaker 8: stuff defensively as well. It's great to have sixty two.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Back twenty five minutes and three seconds of ice time
- 9:58Speaker 2: he had from that game at Boston. The only guy
- 10:01Speaker 2: who was on the ice more than him was Vince
- 10:04Speaker 2: Done at twenty five minutes and forty seven seconds. So
- 10:08Speaker 2: it really seems like that as if there's no slow
- 10:12Speaker 2: rolling out of the gate here for Brandon Montor. I
- 10:14Speaker 2: think the question bears though, how soon do we see
- 10:17Speaker 2: Lane Lambert go back to that deep pair of Linbren
- 10:19Speaker 2: and Montour.
- 10:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm curious on how that's gonna work itself out,
- 10:23Speaker 8: because that really was kind of what was working before
- 10:27Speaker 8: he got injured. I like how those two kind of
- 10:29Speaker 8: play off each other a little bit. Lind Grin's the
- 10:31Speaker 8: classic stay home defenseman that's going to do his defensive work,
- 10:35Speaker 8: allows Monty to go jump up into the play a
- 10:38Speaker 8: little bit more often. I would expect that sooner rather
- 10:41Speaker 8: than later. I think they just didn't want to break
- 10:43Speaker 8: up Kale and lind Grin as those two have kind
- 10:47Speaker 8: of get got some chemistry while Montur's been out. But
- 10:50Speaker 8: I would expect the second pairing to go up a
- 10:52Speaker 8: little bit back to Montur lind Grind But I will say, Alexiak,
- 10:57Speaker 8: you know with Montur looked pretty decent this. I think
- 11:00Speaker 8: they were one of the better pairings that the Kraken
- 11:03Speaker 8: had out there against the Boston Bruins.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I'm really curious about your perspective here because the Crack
- 11:09Speaker 2: had made a roster move before the game, and Montor
- 11:11Speaker 2: coming back meant that somebody had to, unfortunately get squeezed down,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and it was Jacob Malanson, who had been turning plenty
- 11:17Speaker 2: of heads over and over with his physical play. Now
- 11:21Speaker 2: I think it's a matter of when, not if, he
- 11:25Speaker 2: is back up here with this team. But this is
- 11:28Speaker 2: the roster that they live in right now, where there
- 11:30Speaker 2: are certain players where you can't take a gamble to
- 11:33Speaker 2: send them back down because they are not waiver exempt,
- 11:36Speaker 2: and Malanson is waiver exempt through at this point. So
- 11:39Speaker 2: what did you make out of this here? An?
- 11:40Speaker 8: So I'm going to turn it back on to you
- 11:42Speaker 8: because I'm not one hundred percent sure on who is
- 11:44Speaker 8: and who isn't? Is he the only one of the
- 11:46Speaker 8: forward group that is currently on this roster that is
- 11:50Speaker 8: waiver exempt, because if there is someone else, and I mean,
- 11:53Speaker 8: obviously you don't want to send down like one of
- 11:56Speaker 8: your the Berkeley Catons of the world. But I'm not
- 11:59Speaker 8: sure if what Winterton is, I'm not sure ty Karcha
- 12:02Speaker 8: is still. So I'm curious on that front because I
- 12:06Speaker 8: would have tried as many ways as possible to keep
- 12:09Speaker 8: this guy on the roster. I don't believe that it's
- 12:12Speaker 8: a coincidence that the last two games where he hasn't
- 12:15Speaker 8: played the crack and haven't played their best hockey against
- 12:19Speaker 8: the Devils and against the Bruins. I think he adds
- 12:22Speaker 8: another element that really reverberates itself through the lineup. Even
- 12:25Speaker 8: if he only plays eight nine minutes a night, he
- 12:27Speaker 8: does stuff that no one else does on this team.
- 12:30Speaker 8: I would have looked in a different direction, But again
- 12:33Speaker 8: I'm not the I understand that that's kind of how
- 12:35Speaker 8: the cap works now, It's how roster construction works. Now.
- 12:38Speaker 8: Is there someone else that was eligible to not go
- 12:43Speaker 8: through waivers that you can send directly down to Coachella Valley?
- 12:46Speaker 8: Besides Jacob Malonson.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Here your answers, Ryan Winterton, Shane Wright, Berkeley Catton.
- 12:54Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, I mean, and I'm a big Ryan Winterton fan.
- 12:59Speaker 8: I just feel like what Jacob Alanson brings to this
- 13:03Speaker 8: team is less replaceable than what Ryan Winterton brings to
- 13:08Speaker 8: this team, if that makes sense. Obviously, when you're getting
- 13:11Speaker 8: as healthy as you are, that's a great sign. Great
- 13:14Speaker 8: to have Monty back. I would have probably gone the
- 13:17Speaker 8: Winterton route, but again, maybe they kind of see some
- 13:21Speaker 8: things playing out in different ways. I don't know the
- 13:24Speaker 8: full story behind it, but that's kind of what I
- 13:27Speaker 8: feel like, because I still feel like he brings that
- 13:29Speaker 8: extra element that this team is lacking a little bit
- 13:31Speaker 8: right now.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Well the crack and again trying to get back into
- 13:35Speaker 2: the win call a n Aptor. Back to back losses
- 13:37Speaker 2: either in regulation or in overtime, and they're taking on
- 13:40Speaker 2: a Utah man the team that is picking up team
- 13:42Speaker 2: once again. This really shouldn't surprise anybody here, just based
- 13:46Speaker 2: on how tight it is right now in the Western Conference,
- 13:48Speaker 2: how much parody is involved right now in the Western Conference.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But I mean Utah for their ups and downs, they've
- 13:56Speaker 2: come back into this week on a heater, and they
- 13:58Speaker 2: showed a lot of reasons why Andrews last matchup back
- 14:02Speaker 2: in December. I mean, when you throw Dylan Gunher out there,
- 14:05Speaker 2: when you throw Clayton Keller out they're a team that
- 14:07Speaker 2: can give you a lot of problems.
- 14:08Speaker 8: Absolutely, and I think they're just entering maybe maybe a
- 14:12Speaker 8: little bit before their true window, but it feels like
- 14:15Speaker 8: they're kind of entering. And there were a lot of
- 14:16Speaker 8: like NHL analysts darlings going into this season. They really
- 14:21Speaker 8: think that Utah is kind of kind of be a
- 14:24Speaker 8: problem in the Western Conference. Now, like you mentioned, they
- 14:26Speaker 8: went through a little bit of a dip for a
- 14:28Speaker 8: couple of weeks or so, while the Kraken were actually hot,
- 14:31Speaker 8: kind of alternating their you know, trends there. But I
- 14:35Speaker 8: really believe in their their talent. I think they're really
- 14:39Speaker 8: good on the front end. Dylan gun there's a goal scorer,
- 14:41Speaker 8: Clayton Keller is kind of an all round star that
- 14:43Speaker 8: I think could elevate himself to be a superstar. I
- 14:47Speaker 8: think they have kind of the back end a little
- 14:49Speaker 8: bit figured out. I like Mikhal Sergachev. I don't know
- 14:52Speaker 8: of a ton else, and I don't love their goaltending situation,
- 14:56Speaker 8: so they're not like there's the perfect team that you know,
- 14:59Speaker 8: they have no holes or anything like that.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I'll throw Nick Smaltzen there too, by the way, he's
- 15:03Speaker 2: pushed for twenty goals now.
- 15:05Speaker 8: Yeah, absolutely. Nick Schmaltz is one of those guys that
- 15:07Speaker 8: always falls under the radars. So I like where they're at,
- 15:11Speaker 8: but they're not ungettable, and I think this is a
- 15:15Speaker 8: great opportunity for the crack and to kind of put
- 15:17Speaker 8: this little two game skid ish behind them and kind
- 15:20Speaker 8: of jump back right into that playoff picture, and especially
- 15:24Speaker 8: against a team that's vying for that similar spot.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They are one two and one right now on this
- 15:29Speaker 2: road trip, trying to come out of this thing. Even
- 15:33Speaker 2: Stephen for a five point run, which would mean, of course,
- 15:37Speaker 2: again the win at the Rangers. They get a point
- 15:40Speaker 2: at New Jersey, and we'll see if they can get
- 15:42Speaker 2: two more here out of Utah that's coming up here
- 15:44Speaker 2: for the afternoon game. I think one last out I
- 15:46Speaker 2: have here, Andrews, is that the Kraken weren't going to
- 15:49Speaker 2: fly out immediately after the game in Boston. And I'm
- 15:53Speaker 2: curious how much of an effect this could have because
- 15:56Speaker 2: when you delay your travel, you get a full night's
- 15:59Speaker 2: rest in a hotel where you just played, get right
- 16:02Speaker 2: back up in travel. You're not going to be skating
- 16:04Speaker 2: virtually anyway here for a travel day, so I mean
- 16:07Speaker 2: tight turn around here, But that can maybe play into
- 16:10Speaker 2: a mora of an effect in some the kind of
- 16:11Speaker 2: maybe I think keep an eye on here coming up
- 16:13Speaker 2: for the early two pm Pacific time puck drop at
- 16:17Speaker 2: Delta Center.
- 16:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I think it's something to monitor based off of
- 16:20Speaker 8: how they do in the rest of this January really
- 16:23Speaker 8: condensed schedule before we get to the Olympic break as well.
- 16:27Speaker 8: I think the most rest that you can give these
- 16:29Speaker 8: guys the better, especially coming off of kind of a
- 16:32Speaker 8: little bit of a grueling two game stretch against New
- 16:35Speaker 8: Jersey and against Boston, you know, two tough losses that
- 16:38Speaker 8: you're kind of fighting through the end. I definitely think
