- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds's.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Back.
- 0:13Speaker 1: What's going on? Everybody.
- 0:15Speaker 3: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan. Welcome to training camp.
- 0:19The first practice starts this morning. For those of you
- 0:21who like to listen to Inside the Birds right in
- 0:23the morning, Hopefully you're hearing this before the practice starts.
- 0:26If not, it doesn't matter. We're gonna do two things.
- 0:28We're gonna finish off our series on the issues facing
- 0:31the team on defense. We're gonna give you the issues
- 0:33and the answers that the Eagles have for this from
- 0:37our vantage point. And then also we'll discuss really quickly
- 0:40some of the moves that were made on the eve
- 0:42of the first practice, which we'll get into right now. Adam,
- 0:45the Eagles probably made some moves that if you don't
- 0:48know the names, probably was a little bit of a
- 0:51I don't know. Some people might think it's a nothing burger,
- 0:52but it's not. They signed defensive end. Bear with me, folks,
- 0:57I believe it's I know is the name is obo Okronquo.
- 1:02And they also signed defensive tackle Jacob Sykes, and they
- 1:04waved defensive end kJ Henry hor I should call them
- 1:08edge edge and they also yes edge, I should say
- 1:10and they waved running back Lou Nichols, which I'm only
- 1:14chuckling because we sort of were confused about the Lou
- 1:16Nichols bring back in the first place. But Adam the
- 1:20the edge that they bring in who's played for both
- 1:22the Texans and the Browns.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Obo. Let's just call him Mobo, right, You're.
- 1:26Speaker 2: That's the nickname. I'm told. Yeah, yeah, I've probably worked
- 1:29on gathering information on this guy with the Texas or
- 1:33Browns a bunch of times, and we'll we'll we'll give
- 1:36you intell what happened there with Cleveland. But yeah, he's
- 1:40the guy. Now he's older. Now you know he's older.
- 1:43He is now thirty years old, which he turned in
- 1:44in April. Clearly on the back nine of his career,
- 1:48maybe the last maybe the last four holes on his career,
- 1:51you know, maybe he's the fifteenth hole, fourteenth hole. But
- 1:54there's a guy that there's a reason why he signed
- 1:56a three year deal in March of twenty three with
- 1:59with the worth just under nineteen million, like three dollars
- 2:04under nineteen million. So the guy, the guy was one
- 2:07of the better edge rush sub package rushers with the Texans,
- 2:11and he signed a really good deal with the Browns.
- 2:14Then he's a backup signed to be their third edge rusher.
- 2:17What's troubling though, under Jim Schwartz, the wide nine didn't
- 2:21do it. That's not a good sign. But they didn't
- 2:23sign to be a starter. We talked about a couple
- 2:26of months ago. Hey, the Eagles need another edge rusher.
- 2:27They don't need Clowney, they don't need anyone like that.
- 2:31We know they're going with Hunt and Smith. We're going
- 2:32to get into the issues it answers, but they needed
- 2:36one more guy. They needed someone who's been there and
- 2:39done that. And then obviously the Eagles look at his
- 2:41tape they think there's something left, but he just didn't
- 2:44play up to what they wanted. And as a matter
- 2:46of fact, there was there's a decent amount of guaranteed
- 2:49money and your two for Obo here so that they
- 2:53weren't going to cut him, so that it didn't happen.
- 2:55Year one, year two just didn't happen, and they were
- 2:59just there was no too money and your three. They
- 3:00moved on from him.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, listen, it's a good signing. It adds to
- 3:04your rotation. If you make your team right, I mean,
- 3:06you've got you released the edge of kJ Henry, who
- 3:09wasn't gonna factor really in. You drafted Antoine Powell Ryland. Right,
- 3:13you hope you have Patrick Johnson. But this is a
- 3:16guy who if he has a really good case, sort
- 3:17of like I don't want to make it apples to
- 3:19apples with Thomas Booker, but if it comes in has
- 3:22a good camp, you'll.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Find a use for him.
- 3:24Speaker 3: It might be a small use, but he's got a
- 3:26lot more experience in production than kJ Henry, So it's
- 3:29an automatic upgrade right from the start.
- 3:31Speaker 2: All right, let's look at the end. This is the
- 3:32rotation right now, it's Smith, it's Hunt, it's Oje Lari Touche.
- 3:36Now they have to see a food cha. They think
- 3:38he's got plenty left in the tank, but he's got
- 3:40It's one thing to do well or show that you
- 3:42could still play in OTA's that's that's one thing. Got
- 3:45to see what happens in training camp in the preseason.
- 3:47So they have a four man rotation. As we've said
- 3:50many times that you brought up a couple months of
- 3:51you need to have three lease for training camp only
- 3:56you'd have three teams your first you're second or third team, well,
- 3:59you know the first two teams are Patrick Johnson is
- 4:01really only special teams player. He doesn't really factor and
- 4:03kJ Henry never factored in. O'shawn Mathis doesn't really factor
- 4:06in yet he could play his way into the third
- 4:09team if he performs well. And Powell Ryland is a rookie.
- 4:13As much as they like him, the God's a sixth
- 4:15round pick, they don't know about him. We know another
- 4:18rookie center how he almost always make the team if
- 4:20you're a seventh rounder. But right now they need that,
- 4:23they need that rotation. And plus you have to understand this,
- 4:27what happens if somebody gets hurt. We've used this term,
- 4:30this is a coaching term. What's our answer if this
- 4:32guy gets hurt, who's our answer? Well, you're bringing an
- 4:35obo here off the bench with Ucha and Ojelari, one
- 4:39of the Ucha and Ojelari right now ahead of him,
- 4:41one of those guys would move up and need someone
- 4:43to replace him. You can't have enough d rushers. Is
- 4:45another point here, Just connect.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Right the other kid they signed, Jacob Sykes. I know
- 4:50he was undrafted in twenty twenty three and then he
- 4:53was signed by the Seahawks. He didn't make the team,
- 4:57he was brought back and then I guess he spent
- 5:00some time with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United
- 5:03Football League. So this is I don't I don't want,
- 5:05I hate the zord can't body sometimes, but it feels
- 5:08like that's really I just don't.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Know why specifically they targeted that area.
- 5:12Speaker 3: But we have talked about defensive tackle and being thin
- 5:14there and you need a lot of those in camp
- 5:16as well.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah they're thin, you know so, and this will we'll
- 5:21just talk more about the back end. We know what
- 5:23the first four or five guy's going to be like.
- 5:25But after after Ty Robinson, Booker and Byron Young for
- 5:30the third team, you just have Gabe Hall. Well I
- 5:31know that he had he improved in OTA's but again,
- 5:35we will see what this really means. If it means anything,
- 5:38this week we'll start getting an idea. But then their
- 5:40thirteam doesn't really exist, so it's other than Gabe Hall.
- 5:43So you have another guy, that's all. I mean. You
- 5:46need a rotation for the thirteen.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Did you see the two colleges that Jacob Sykes attended.
- 5:51By the way, it's almost as extreme as.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Jaelex's hunt but not not so much.
- 5:55Speaker 3: He went he started off at Harvard and then wound
- 5:58up at UCLA, which is you know, you just don't
- 6:02see that question in LA. Yeah, yeah, but I mean
- 6:05just like Harvard, which is not necessarily a football school
- 6:08exact at all, and then UCLA pretty decent one. So
- 6:12very funny there. He's from Kansas City. Guy, he's six
- 6:16three two seventy. I just had it in front of
- 6:19me and now I lost it. But he's he's seventy seven,
- 6:22so an undersized Uh, probably a three technique type of guy.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he did play in the the UFL.
- 6:28Speaker 1: So yeah, that was the Brahmas that I was, that
- 6:29San Antonio Brahmas.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting that they're you know, they want to take
- 6:32a look. Again, it's just a back end player, highly
- 6:35unlikely to make the team, but you never know when
- 6:37these guys come in. If they if they ball out
- 6:39and put good tape together, you never know if they
- 6:41could play in the league.
- 6:43Speaker 1: There you go, all right, our patriot.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Remember tonight will have will have the weekly Ask ITV

- 7:33Now we will dive into completing our two part series
- 7:37on the issues in camp and the answers that we're
- 7:40gonna give you issue number one. Now, I think that
- 7:44they have already an answer for this issue, but we
- 7:46will go through some outside answers.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But it's the plan to adequately.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Replace Milton Williams, and we've discussed this a little bit, Adam.
- 7:53They this is the time for third year defensive tackle
- 7:57Loro Joemo to step up.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And seize the role. But this will be a proving
- 8:03ground for him.
- 8:03Speaker 3: He's not played this many snaps before that, he's going
- 8:05to play, and he's got a show not only that
- 8:08you can play that volume, but also be as productive
- 8:11as Milton Williams was, which is gonna be very difficult
- 8:13because Milton had a great year last year, and then
- 8:16right behind him Adam. You know, there'll be some guys
- 8:19chomping out the heels for some playing time there.
- 8:21Speaker 2: You know what's interesting that mill Williams is that he
- 8:24was good immediately when he was drafted in twenty two,
- 8:26Like he just he wore a twenty twenty one.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah, no, twenty two, you're right, Oh no, no, I'm sorry,
- 8:34twenty one.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Forty years yeah, yeah, because he was a freegent this y, yeah,
- 8:37it would be twenty twenty one. He was good immediately.
- 8:40This this guy just got better every year. He's good immediately.
- 8:43He was really big surprise coming out of Louisiana Tech.
- 8:47But O Joe Mon Williams are just they don't play
- 8:49the same way. Woms is way stronger. O Jem's got
- 8:52much better upside as a pass rush, a little bit
- 8:54faster quick step. But Williams is a technician, tough, physical, smart.
- 8:59It's been a really an incredible story development. But you know,
- 9:02what O Joeo's been a good story too.
- 9:04Speaker 1: He has.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I was just about to say, you know, Ojomo really
- 9:06has played well when he's been put out there. He's
- 9:09not You're right, he's not the same player. But what
- 9:11he has done well, he's done well. And then he
- 9:13gets off the ball really fast.
- 9:15Speaker 2: That's it. And and Ty Robinson has got a little
- 9:18bit better versatility from what we understand than Ojomo. They're
- 9:22super excited about Ty Robinson, but they're young players. Ty
- 9:25Robinson's rookie O Jomas in his third year. O Jomo
- 9:28now will be considered a starter. Now, a starter could
- 9:32be fifty percent on the snaps, it could be forty,
- 9:34it could be seventy percent. That's something that they're going
- 9:36to work through once they see Yojomo work with the
- 9:38first team in training camp and see how he does
- 9:41technique wise, especially then the question is then the answer
- 9:46we just gave you was Ojomo and Robinson. But there's
- 9:48a another part to this. What if it doesn't work?
- 9:52What's the answer. Now? The list is getting smaller. A
- 9:55bunch of veteran d tackles who signed over the last
- 9:57two weeks. Here are the best guys available Jordan Phillips
- 10:02was with Buffalo, Maurice Hurst who has been around with
- 10:04the Browns, the Raiders, the Niners. Quinn Jefferson is is
- 10:09is an older guy, a pretty good character guy. JaMarcus
- 10:12Walker's got some position versatility. He's playing in thirty four
- 10:14and forty three. And Jah hod Ward, who's been a
- 10:17he's still playing. He hadn't retired. He's been on a
- 10:20bunch of teams. So there's some journeyman types. But this
- 10:23is why the Eagles went with the with no veterans
- 10:25last year terms of their defensive line. They did they
- 10:29wanted to go young as they thought those guys would
- 10:31be better and it was the right choice.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and I will say, you know, I feel like
- 10:35that those names you mentioned, the available veterans will be
- 10:38a last resort and if things just don't work out
- 10:41between the Joe Moo and Robinson the way the Eagles
- 10:43want it to, I'm not going to dismiss the idea
- 10:47because the coaches have told us this. They they believe
- 10:51that they saw improvement from Jordan Davis as a pass rusher.
- 10:54So I'm not going to put a lid on it.
- 10:56I have to see it first myself other than in
- 10:59small spurts, but he is a candidate. And then Adam,
- 11:02you mentioned Gabe Hall and Byron Young. I mean, these
- 11:04are two guys who with a year of seasoning in
- 11:08the Egos system and coaching under their belt, could perhaps surprise.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean one guy was a third round pick.
- 11:13Speaker 3: The other guy we thought should have been drafted and
- 11:15has a really good athletic body. So those, I would say,
- 11:19those three guys to me, are more likely to have
- 11:21one guy step up and sees it than them have
- 11:23to go to the street free agent route. But it's
- 11:26good to present both sides of the like what's out
- 11:28there just in case.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's not great that it's out there. That
- 11:32the list was, boy, it was about a month ago,
- 11:34was pretty robust. But once you get hugging up to
- 11:37start a training camp, guys all of a sudden want
- 11:39to sign you. They don't want to deal with the
- 11:41OTAs and stuff. Some guys probably will you know what,
- 11:44I don't want to be there, man, I don't be
- 11:45here in the hot weather. Sign sign me in late August.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, we'll.
- 11:49Speaker 2: See if their jobs available, So that that's the plan
- 11:52that those are the answers that detacle. It pretty much
- 11:54covers it now and as we get through the show,
- 11:56as we talked about on Offense earlier this week, if
- 11:59we here that it's not looking good, we'll give you
- 12:02a list potential targets some around mid August, if we
- 12:05only hear that it's not going well and won't give
- 12:08you a potential of trade targets from other clubs for
- 12:10this position.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Got it all right?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Issue too, something we've talked about quite a bit. There's
- 12:16no more Josh Swett. There's no more Brandon Graham. That
- 12:18is a lot of years of experience, that is a
- 12:20lot of high level play, high level leadership production, hurries
- 12:24sacks over the years, I mean even many years for
- 12:27Brandon Graham. But Josh Swett sort of like like we
- 12:30discussed with mill Williams, Josh Swett was a fourth round
- 12:33pick who just played well pretty much as soon as
- 12:36he became an Eagle, you started to see why he
- 12:38was one of the top by I think it was
- 12:39one of the top high school recruits.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Right, and then he hurt his knee and that hurt
- 12:44his draft stock.
- 12:45Speaker 3: But outside of that small time in the end of
- 12:48twenty twenty three, where the whole defense kind of imploded.
- 12:51Josh Swett gave a lot of great contributions to this
- 12:54Eagles defense and became a really fabulous story. We know
- 12:57about Brandon Graham. The answers, though, ad they're right there.
- 13:00The answers to the test are there. They just have
- 13:02to be the answers.
- 13:04Speaker 2: However, though, okay, it's it's Hunt and Nolan Smith. Now
- 13:07what we really haven't talked about before? What would be
- 13:09the plan. Everybody knows that Ojelari is going to enter
- 13:11training camp as the third at tressure, that's not this point.
- 13:14What if Smith coming back from his surgery? Remember last
- 13:21training camp? Last year's training camp really didn't show that
- 13:23he was ready to be a contributor at a high level,
- 13:26and it was one of those amazing stories. As the
- 13:29season progressed, Danny became a player, we got to see
- 13:32what this looks like right in training camp. Hunt is
- 13:36a full time player. As high as we've been on him,
- 13:38as much as we followed his career before he was drafted,
- 13:41and we got a tip that we got to be
- 13:42on this sky, not for the Eagles, but just overall.
- 13:44When we were doing draft shows with Greg Osell. We
- 13:46asked we beg Greg finest tape and watch it. This
- 13:49guy's going to probably go in the third round. And
- 13:50he did to the Eagles, which is interesting. But now
- 13:54he's progress as he did late last season and everybody's excited.
- 13:57But he's never he's not been asked to play full
- 14:01time at the NFL level. This is only fourth years
- 14:03an interrusher. What if it doesn't work. Now, they signed Obo,
- 14:07as we just talked about a couple months ago, they
- 14:09have they have Ouce, So those are the guys who'ld
- 14:11be next. But what if o'jer lari if he gets hurt.
- 14:16Look if these guys get hurt. And it's very clear
- 14:20again as we said three months ago, they do not
- 14:22want to sign a big time interrust. Why because they
- 14:24want Hunt to play, They want Smith to play. That's happened.
- 14:29Like they haven't done that. They haven't the drafts, they
- 14:31haven't signed anyone who's a big time So if it
- 14:35doesn't work with these guys, or they get an injury
- 14:37and they need one more guy, here's the available Edges Clowney.
- 14:41We talked about this a couple of months ago. He's
- 14:44going to have to accept if he came to Philly.
- 14:46You're not gonna play very much if these guys are healthy.
- 14:50But if if Hunt can't, say, can't handle playing seventy
- 14:54percent playing time, they need someone like Zadarius Smith, Genevian Clowney,
- 14:59Matthew Judah, Shaq. Barrett's out, they're prest Smith, Tyas s Bouzer.
- 15:03It's a buyer's market. They need someone for that edge
- 15:07roll you talked about Beiji and that thirty thirty, maybe
- 15:11twenty five percent Iskwanni gonna be willing to do that.
- 15:14I don't see that. Now. Do you want to have
- 15:17a chance to win a Super Bowl? That that that's
- 15:19a This is the discussion we had weeks ago. But
- 15:22they don't really need that right now. They have with
- 15:25this signing of Obo. They've got enough of the two
- 15:28young kids, Smith and Hunt. They've got the two vets
- 15:32Ojelari and Ooh, and they've got Powell, Ryland and and Obo,
- 15:36so that they've got their six for training camp. They're
- 15:38good there. Yeah, but if someone gets hurt, it changes.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I agree.
- 15:41Speaker 3: I think they've done everything they can to answer the
- 15:44question of what if Hunt and Smith aren't ready to
- 15:48be the full time starters and productive and they've given
- 15:50themselves o Jeli and U and now Obo. I mean,
- 15:54they've armed themselves with enough. You have to just have
- 15:57to hope it works out, but if it doesn't, you
- 15:59do like the fact that they're somewhat of a buyer's
- 16:01market as long as those some of those guys you
- 16:03mentioned are willing to accept those roles, and I think
- 16:05at the stages of their careers they if they want
- 16:09to win a ring, as you mentioned, they probably would
- 16:12would be alright with that.
- 16:13Speaker 1: We'll see. I mean, I can't speak for.
- 16:14Speaker 2: All of them, but I can't spa for Clowney.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 2: And by the way, he could still play.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:20Speaker 2: The Panthers made it clear they just wanted to go
- 16:22young because they know they're not winning. They might as
- 16:25well start playing younger players and develop them. But Clowney
- 16:28could still play. I mean, there were questions three years
- 16:30ago with Cleveland. It didn't end well for him with
- 16:33the Browns, but each of the Panthers, I know I'm
- 16:34talking to them, they thought he could still play. To me,
- 16:37he's a no more than fifty per playtime. I don't remember.
- 16:40He's not a big time met rush to spite all
- 16:42the rumors or what people think. He's just a big name.
- 16:45But the thing about him is he's long, he's powerful,
- 16:47and you could play him inside a nickel like in
- 16:50your d line and that that's that's a that's a
- 16:52real good value he That's what I know. The Eagles
- 16:54have been intrigued by him over the years, but they
- 16:56never really made a run at him. But he's out
- 16:58there and they'll say if they need to do something,
- 17:01but again they want to get Smith has come back
- 17:03from the turn triceps. He should be ready to roll here. Hunt.
- 17:08We just have to see what he can handle. And
- 17:09they're going to know, by the way, they'll know by
- 17:12mid August because we gave the schedule off for the
- 17:15first three weeks. But by mid August they're gonna know
- 17:18where Hunt is.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Right right by the way.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Von Miller was at one point on that list. But
- 17:23he is now with the commanders who really needed some
- 17:25edge rush, and we'll see how much juice that he
- 17:28has left, because I imagine he'll actually be given some
- 17:30opportunity to get out there and improve it given what.
- 17:32Speaker 1: They need on the at the edge rush.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Let's let's move on issue number three, because you know
- 17:38when we give the answers, Adam, I'm not as comfortable
- 17:40with these answers, and yeah as maybe anybody else for
- 17:43the organization even is. And the issue is replacing Nikobe Dean,
- 17:47who's probably not gonna be back until October, as we
- 17:51understand it. And the answer is, well, they've got Jeremiah
- 17:54Trotter Junior entering year two, and they've got a rookie
- 17:58and Smile Mind and was picked in the fifth round,
- 18:01and also their first round pick. John Campbell is someone
- 18:05that they see starting off his career as long as
- 18:07he's back sometime in August at that position too.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But we're talking about a lot of ifs here.
- 18:12Speaker 3: We're talking about two rookies who've never played an NFL down,
- 18:15and then Jeremiah Troynter Junior entering year two, who honestly
- 18:19we like, we heard great things about, We know the
- 18:21organization likes him, but again, not a whole lot of
- 18:23experience on defense for a team that's trying to win
- 18:27a Super Bowl.
- 18:28Speaker 2: And they're really light by the way. So it's Trotter
- 18:30Junior's up first, and they got Smile Mind, and they'll
- 18:33see about Campbell whenever he starts working with him is
- 18:37once he's cleared, and I want to get back to
- 18:39Dean in a minute. But once he's cleared, they got
- 18:41it to see how he is picking the defense up.
- 18:44You know that's got great coaching with Fangio and Bobby King,
- 18:48but you don't know. He's new to them. They don't
- 18:50know the player. They know what the tape look like.
- 18:52You know, they know he's explosive. He's got tremendous size
- 18:55for instet backer doesn't get any better than that, tims
- 18:57of size, and you know he's local. Let's be an eagle.
- 18:59They love having him, but until you get him on
- 19:02the field, you don't know. Now, getting back to Dean,
- 19:05Let's say he surprises people, but it comes back earlier
- 19:07than a first week of October. Let's say let's say
- 19:12he Let's say they don't have them in reserve pup
- 19:16to start the season, because you have to miss four
- 19:18games if you're on reserve pup. That it's not six anywhere.
- 19:21They changed the rules, by the way in recent years
- 19:23to clear that up. But let's say he's he's ready
- 19:26in second week of September. There's a different level of readiness.
- 19:30People can't assume he's ready to start. Like it's one thing, okay,
- 19:32you know what he could contribute, but at what level
- 19:35You're not gonna know till you get there. He may
- 19:38just have to be a backup the season. They're not
- 19:39going to know on Dean coming back with tour and
- 19:41pro teller ten And that's a worse injury than ACL.
- 19:45People could talk all, oh, he's running well. Well, we
- 19:47learned this, and this is a different ensue with Sidney Brown.
- 19:50Remember the media was talling, Oh boy, he looks great.
- 19:51He looks like he's gonna be ready for the season.
- 19:53Just because he runs well in a straight line means
- 19:55he's ready. Right, People don't know what they're looking at
- 19:57when they're a practice, he said on a Jason Field,
- 20:00So be careful. This is a devastating kne injury. I'm
- 20:03glad he's doing well, doing well and being ready to
- 20:06play or two different things.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Sidney Brown is an interesting I mean,
- 20:10the guy didn't even play his first game until October twentieth,
- 20:15where he wound up playing nine snaps on defense.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I mean that's not quite a lot.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I mean he didn't play double digit snaps on defense
- 20:22until that week.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Sixteen game against Dallas.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I think it was where he played ten, so, I
- 20:27mean he just didn't play a whole lot. I mean
- 20:29there wasn't he played special teams right from the start.
- 20:34But that's not what they're looking for from Kobe Dean.
- 20:36Speaker 1: They're looking for him to be able to come back
- 20:38and be a starter.
- 20:39Speaker 2: So we'll say, it's such a bad injury, and you're
- 20:42trying to do this in season most likely it's hard. Man,
- 20:45It's sorry now the answers we just gave you, but
- 20:49we're going to take this a step further. Okay, Well,
- 20:51what happens if trout juniors inconsistent? Mandid who's got better,
- 20:54He's longer, more explosive. If you don't think he's ready
- 21:00something you know they've done. Hang on one second, they've
- 21:04done a lot of patchwork before.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, even by the way, an injury, even
- 21:09an injury, it doesn't have to be they're not happy.
- 21:10I mean, you're just one injury away from really needing
- 21:14some names here. Because one injury, I mean you're you're
- 21:17already down to the rookie free agent, probably on.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Your on your third string.
- 21:21Speaker 3: You know, Trot and Bond will be your first string,
- 21:23and your second string will be Mond then will get
- 21:27in there and maybe when when Campbell's ready.
- 21:31Speaker 1: He'll be in there.
- 21:32Speaker 3: But I mean, who's the third stringer from Toledo that
- 21:34they brought in?
- 21:34Speaker 2: Uh?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Lance Stixon? Is that it?
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm honestly surprised they don't have a vetter like
- 21:42one of these guys that you're about to talk about
- 21:43already in camp ready to go.
- 21:45Speaker 2: But and that's why we have this list. So the
- 21:47one guy sticks out. And by the way, again this
- 21:49list has been picked over. That's why we're updating it.
- 21:52Cause you're white. Who they know like they it's talk
- 21:55about plug and play. He knows the defense, so because
- 21:59he played on again and he was running fangio, so
- 22:02you know the defense. And obviously in White played with
- 22:05the Cardinals. So yeah, he's he's ready to go. Yeah. Now,
- 22:09now obviously he's on sign. He's not the same player
- 22:11he once was, but he could still play. Eric Kendricks
- 22:13Michael's younger brother. Tons of injuries, he's playing a thirty four,
- 22:18he's played on man fronts. You're just talking about a
- 22:22guy who you need for depth. And Juwan Bentley's much
- 22:26younger who's very talent. Was a good story development of
- 22:28the Patriots, but he had a knee injury a couple
- 22:30of years ago and they don't want him, so he's available.
- 22:34But the list, that's pretty much it. That's pretty much
- 22:36it for ILBS.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Yep.
- 22:38Speaker 2: But I could look at my file here, so those
- 22:41are all the answers, man, But I'm fascinated to see Mondon.
- 22:47I'm gonna look more into maybe you might as well.
- 22:49Why was he not drifted higher? I know he's on
- 22:51the thinner side, but so what today's NFL Linebreckers not
- 22:54to forty to fifty?
- 22:55Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, that's a good point, part of that
- 22:58great Georgia defense, great athlete.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I am surprised it can't just be sized. I wonder
- 23:02if it's similar. We'll look into it.
- 23:03Speaker 3: But you know, Nikobe Dean was a third round pick
- 23:06because of you know, size and injury concerns. So yeah,
- 23:10let's look into that and smile and figure out why
- 23:12he was just a fifth rounder A right. The last
- 23:15the last one is a really difficult answer discussion, because
- 23:17this is not like you're pulling guys off your bench
- 23:20that you think you can really compete here and that's
- 23:23if kiey Ringo or Dorry Jackson duke it out there
- 23:25to replace Darius Lay and the Eagles aren't happy with either,
- 23:29where do they go at him? Because you know, then
- 23:31you're looking at Eli Rix or maybe even the fifth
- 23:34round pick Mac McWilliams, who I thought kind of stood
- 23:37out a little bit OTA's but I mean, like you
- 23:38always said, that's that's double a.
- 23:41Speaker 1: You're a rookie. Once the pads come out, it's a
- 23:43totally different story.
- 23:44Speaker 3: But those would be the only in house options that
- 23:47you'd consider realistic. So that would actually make you want
- 23:50to look outside the organization.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, mac mcways may get a work,
- 23:54get some work on the outside, but yeah, he's short orange.
- 23:58We've talked about him, and it's it's it's unlikely, but
- 24:01you can't say it couldn't happen, But it's unlikely. Caster
- 24:04Fields is there out of your school Penn State, Parry
- 24:08Nickerson is more of a nickel now the in house
- 24:11The one thing though that they could do and this
- 24:14could happen, there's there's definitely could happen is they moved
- 24:16the gene to corner. That could definitely happen. If if
- 24:19they're not happy with Jackson Ringo. Now that's that's where
- 24:25mac McWilliams becomes a factor, like he's like or Perry Nickerson.
- 24:30That's how Parry Parry Knickson can make the team. If
- 24:34the outside guys are not doing well and Coop Coop
- 24:36could play outside in base, he might be playing corners,
- 24:39as Vic said, So I know they don't play a
- 24:42lot of it, but the fact of the matter is
- 24:44he was drafted to play corner. As we said. When
- 24:46he was drafted, that's what they wanted to do. Plans changed,
- 24:49they're allowed to do that, so he might be doing that.
- 24:53If it doesn't work out with the Jackson ring we
- 24:55we something we're going to keep an eye on. Man.
- 24:57I'm I'm very curious to see how this works out.
- 25:00And this is another one one of the first two weeks.
- 25:02We're probably gonna know, probably gonna know.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I would think so we'll know real quickly
- 25:06on that one.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Last year, by the way, with with Rogerson Ringo first week.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Who would be a good out of the out of
- 25:13the nah outside the box or outside the organization fit
- 25:18You think if they really wanted to go get somebody.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Else see true fit see to me with the Santi
- 25:25Hima junior. Anywhere he goes, he should be starting now.
- 25:27I know he's got to get clear from the the
- 25:29neck issue. He's the starting corner. He's young, he's relatively young.
- 25:33So if he's available, if he has not signed by then,
- 25:37which would surprise me, but if he didn't, that's a
- 25:39guy you got to look at. Kennel Fuller could play nickel,
- 25:42he could play corner.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Stephen Gilmore, the promise Gilmore, as we've talked about him before,
- 25:46he don't really fitting zone. That's why the the the
- 25:48Bills moved off of him when uh, when McDermott came in.
- 25:53Is that, uh, it just didn't fit his own system.
- 25:55He's a better man cover corner, so it wouldn't be
- 25:58a great fit here. He's great. He's gonna be a
- 26:00Hall of Famers great. Gilly Locke is a great player,
- 26:02but he can still play. He's older than Slagh by
- 26:04the way, but that's it really, to be honest with you,
- 26:08Fabian Moreau, he's a thirty thirty, he's a fourth corner.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think you know in this situation here,
- 26:15if you're an Eagle fan, you're just hoping one of
- 26:17Ringo or Jackson really works out and can can slide
- 26:21in there for slag, but you hit it on the
- 26:23head that will not be easy. Sleigh played really well
- 26:26for this team, especially at his age and reliability. He
- 26:29gave the team a lot two super Bowl trips in
- 26:32a ring, so that one's going to be a hotly
- 26:34contested contest.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Leadership just didn't match all summer YEP leadership. Uh And
- 26:39by the way, where it didn't look good, where it
- 26:42looked like he lost his step in the middle of
- 26:43the season. Remember he closed the season very well. Yeah,
- 26:47you know, so we'll see one million, one year, ten
- 26:50million that he got from the Steelers. Uh So, and
- 26:53the Steelers kind of revamped their cornerback group all of
- 26:55a sudden with Jayla Ramsey and Slay but finishing off
- 26:59the Eagles. Here this is where how he's got up
- 27:02to thirteen draft picks next year. This is where I'm
- 27:07wheeling and dealing, just like he did for Ronald Darby.
- 27:09So this this will be in play if they're not
- 27:12happy one way, how he's not. He's just this is
- 27:16what makes him great. He's just done care. He's fearless
- 27:19man he's where you got so many conservative gms who
- 27:22oh no, we're gonna build from within. We'll just sign
- 27:25some journey man. We'll get through it. That that's I'm
- 27:28not saying how he's perfect with that stuff. He tried
- 27:30to patchworker a couple of years ago to ILB didn't
- 27:32work very well. But this time he's got a lot
- 27:36of administry for next season and he's you know, he
- 27:39spares no expense and he's got the backing of the
- 27:42owners to do what he needs to do. So this
- 27:44is one we'll be keeping an eye on again. We'll we'll, we'll,
- 27:47we'll search around if it doesn't look good. If we
- 27:48hear it's not going well, we'll give you our list
- 27:51of guys so that could Eagles can potentially target.
- 27:54Speaker 3: All right, Andrew Checko, We'll be at the practice today
- 27:58and for almost every single I'll be there Thursday, Adam
- 28:01will be there over the weekend.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I believe you said you're gonna.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Make Yeah, I might, yeah, who knows you. I may
- 28:05show up one at least today or tomorrow.
- 28:07Speaker 3: So by the next time you hear an Inside the
- 28:09Birds podcast, we're gonna have a lot of good stuff.
- 28:12Speaker 1: To talk about.
- 28:13Speaker 3: That's gonna do it for this episode of Inside the Birds,
