- 3:28Speaker 1: crowdfund campaign. We are trying to raise a ton of
- 3:32Speaker 1: money on the I fund Women platform. So far, we've
- 3:36Speaker 1: raised thirteen thousand, three hundred and thirty five dollars thanks
- 3:41Speaker 1: to our funders who have contributed selflessly. We have a
- 3:46Speaker 1: hundred and seventy three funders. Keep listening until the end

- 3:59Speaker 1: shout outs to our pod friends that donated different incentives

- 4:07Speaker 1: who still has a custom portrait of for grabs on
- 4:10Speaker 1: the campaign on the iphon Women campaign. Also just in
- 4:15Speaker 1: we have some side copies of mariajsas memoir Once I
- 4:19Speaker 1: Was You, so head on over to the campaign to
- 4:22Speaker 1: the iphonomen campaign to get your copy your signed copy
- 4:25Speaker 1: of Once I Was You. And also one of our favorites,
- 4:29Speaker 1: Galifa halo Anstein, also donated um signed copies of Sabrina
- 4:36Speaker 1: and Cordina and we have interviewed her on the pod
- 4:38Speaker 1: before and we're just super excited that all of our
- 4:41Speaker 1: pot friends have contributed to the campaign in some way
- 4:44Speaker 1: and also that gives you an opportunity to check out
- 4:47Speaker 1: some of their work as well. The incentives on the
- 4:49Speaker 1: iphoned Women our crowdfund campaign are really awesome thanks to
- 4:53Speaker 1: our pod friends. The other type of incentive that we
- 4:57Speaker 1: have is more of a look at the focused incentive,
- 5:00Speaker 1: so on some tiers, if you contribute to our campaign,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you can get ad space for your small business for
- 5:08Speaker 1: your project on look at our radio in return for
- 5:11Speaker 1: your contribution and different types of incentives like that, including
- 5:15Speaker 1: one on one consultations with THEOSA and I to talk
- 5:19Speaker 1: about how to launch your podcast or digital media projects.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So check out all of those incentives because there's something
- 5:25Speaker 1: for everyone. Yeah, and today we have somewhat of a
- 5:30Speaker 1: like pulp culture current events episode for y'all, which we
- 5:33Speaker 1: like to throw into the mix every now and then.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So we're gonna just get started and jump into one
- 5:39Speaker 1: of your favorite segments, one of our favorite segments, Weird Things,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Why Women did this week. Yes, this story is very odd.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It has to do with Ellie Kemper. I don't know
- 5:52Speaker 1: if you all watch Unbreakable Kimmi Schmidt or The Office,
- 5:56Speaker 1: but Ellie Kemper is an actress who has appeared in
- 6:00Speaker 1: both of those shows, and it's the star of the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Unbreakable Schmid among other things. So Elite Kemper began twending
- 6:08Speaker 1: began trending on Twitter after somebody tweeted out a newspaper
- 6:15Speaker 1: story from saying that Ellie Kemper at the time had
- 6:20Speaker 1: been named Queen of Love and Beauty at St. Louis's
- 6:24Speaker 1: secretive veiled profit ball again in and this process is
- 6:32Speaker 1: part of an organization I guess that is called the
- 6:35Speaker 1: Veiled Profit organization, which turns out to have some like
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know, like uh segregationist like whites only type roots.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And so the Internet was a flame because Ellie Kemper
- 6:49Speaker 1: was the main character of the day. So of course
- 6:53Speaker 1: this tweet comes out right, and I'm reviewing a Vanity
- 6:56Speaker 1: Fair article which lays out the entire affair because I
- 7:00Speaker 1: d M d Bosa and I was like, Okay, you
- 7:02Speaker 1: need to check out this Ellie Kemper situation because it's
- 7:05Speaker 1: like bizarre, it's wild. Everybody was like, oh my god.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So Ellie Kemper was like miss teen queen KKK, like
- 7:13Speaker 1: in St. Louis, Missouri. And then others were like, you know, um,
- 7:20Speaker 1: a fancy event put on by our local KKK is.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So lots of KKK affiliations were being made. So that
- 7:26Speaker 1: led to journalists and twitters and other people dig into
- 7:29Speaker 1: like the actual history of this organization. Um, how Ellie
- 7:35Speaker 1: was the veiled prophet queen. And it's just like fascinating
- 7:40Speaker 1: because you know, of course secret societies exist, um, not
- 7:43Speaker 1: just and not just like um the ones that we
- 7:47Speaker 1: hear about all the time, the Illuminati and such like
- 7:49Speaker 1: there's a lot like there's a ton like like like
- 7:52Speaker 1: very strange stuff. So, um, yeah, this is our weird
- 7:56Speaker 1: things white women did this week. And I think Ellie
- 7:59Speaker 1: Kemper kind of was taken by surprise because it's from
- 8:01Speaker 1: a long time ago, from when she was like literally
- 8:03Speaker 1: a teenager, and it just kind of came up like
- 8:06Speaker 1: this week, and so yeah, that's the story. That's the
- 8:09Speaker 1: sitch that is so weird and so supposedly there's like
- 8:15Speaker 1: no actual ties between the Veiled Prophet and the KKK,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but that there's still like deeply problematic history of this
- 8:23Speaker 1: organization and yeah, what a like awful thing to be
- 8:30Speaker 1: tied to, you know, even if like it was a
- 8:33Speaker 1: long time ago. I think like the conversation that I've
- 8:36Speaker 1: seen around it is like do we allow do we
- 8:39Speaker 1: allow people to grow? Like the Internet is like quick
- 8:42Speaker 1: to like make judgment and all these things, and it's
- 8:45Speaker 1: really complicated when you're talking about race and racism, right,
- 8:49Speaker 1: because it's like, well, you know, those things aren't that complicated.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You're racist or you're not, you know. Yeah, And it's
- 8:56Speaker 1: also interesting too, because you know, secret society, these exclusive
- 9:01Speaker 1: societies members only societies, country clubs, all this stuff. Right,
- 9:06Speaker 1: A lot more celebs and wealthy folks around us have
- 9:11Speaker 1: been raised in these organizations than we know or recognize. Like,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I didn't realize that this stuff existed until I went
- 9:19Speaker 1: to high school, and then all of a sudden, everybody
- 9:22Speaker 1: was like, oh, like my dead ball, my dead ball,
- 9:24Speaker 1: my dead ball. I'm like, what the funk is a
- 9:26Speaker 1: dead ball? Oh? A debutant's ball over the National Charity
- 9:31Speaker 1: League and all the other societies that they belong to,
- 9:34Speaker 1: which are like very members only, very exclusive, and I
- 9:37Speaker 1: have to assume probably somewhere along the line have some
- 9:40Speaker 1: connection to segregationist classes at the very least, right, like
- 9:45Speaker 1: very separatist type um stuff, you know, as wealthy white
- 9:50Speaker 1: people do. So, yeah, this is just another slice of life,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I guess, another look into white womanhood in America. Yes, yes,
- 10:01Speaker 1: that's a very great way to put it, because it's true.
- 10:04Speaker 1: These secret societies are rooted in racism, classism, sexism, lots
- 10:13Speaker 1: of different things. I think, the like the deeper you go,
- 10:17Speaker 1: like the more you uncover. And it's like one of
- 10:18Speaker 1: those things where it's like once you know one, like
- 10:21Speaker 1: once you pull that thread, like you find the others right.
- 10:24Speaker 1: All right, So this has been another installment of weird
- 10:28Speaker 1: things white women did this week. Even though it's a
- 10:30Speaker 1: weird thing that Ellie Kemper did, it was relevant this week,
- 10:34Speaker 1: so we went over it for you all. Now we're
- 10:36Speaker 1: going to talk about something I'm so excited about. Benefer
- 10:42Speaker 1: is back. Baby, I'm still I'm still have benefer is here.
- 10:55Speaker 1: The nineties. The nineties are back, dude, the nineties back.
- 11:01Speaker 1: They're like early two thousand's benefits, like the early two thousand's, um,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and I have been dying to talk about. That's true.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The early two thousands are back. Two thousands, the early
- 11:12Speaker 1: two thousands are back. In every way we have benefit.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We have the straight leg jeans, we have the fashions,
- 11:19Speaker 1: the tiny purses, like the little like ones that hang
- 11:22Speaker 1: on the shoulder. I mean I have one now, Who
- 11:23Speaker 1: am I? Who am I kidding? But there. Yeah, it's
- 11:26Speaker 1: back in so many different ways. But I've been super
- 11:30Speaker 1: excited to talk about benefit because I am like rooting
- 11:33Speaker 1: for benefit. To be honest, I am too, And I
- 11:39Speaker 1: feel like the entire Internet is rooting for benefit. Like
- 11:41Speaker 1: everyone seems to be happy about it. Everything I've seen
- 11:44Speaker 1: on my timeline has been very pro benefit team Benefit.
- 11:49Speaker 1: We're happy about it. We're proud of j Lo. We're
- 11:53Speaker 1: like relieved for Ben. And I feel like JL is
- 11:59Speaker 1: just like I feel like she was revving her engines
- 12:04Speaker 1: waiting to get out of that relationship because she began.
- 12:08Speaker 1: When she got out of it, she really got out
- 12:11Speaker 1: of it, like yeah, sprint. I mean obviously, like we
- 12:16Speaker 1: can only make assumptions about celebs because we don't know them,
- 12:19Speaker 1: but I feel I feel like when j Lo is
- 12:22Speaker 1: done with a relationship, she's done with it, like she
- 12:26Speaker 1: she doesn't waste time. She moves on, like at least
- 12:30Speaker 1: like to the public eye, right, you know, of course,
- 12:32Speaker 1: we never know blah blah blah, like what goes on
- 12:35Speaker 1: internally or like in her little circle. But I do
- 12:38Speaker 1: feel like, again, I don't know j Lo, but I
- 12:41Speaker 1: feel like she really really loved Ben Affleck, like she
- 12:46Speaker 1: had like the album she on her album when they
- 12:49Speaker 1: were together. I'm blanking on the album title right now,
- 12:52Speaker 1: but she liked that's like the Jenny from the Black
- 12:54Speaker 1: album she had like she he was in the videos.
- 12:57Speaker 1: She had the song a literal song named Ben, like
- 13:00Speaker 1: the song was like a dedication to him. The album
- 13:04Speaker 1: was like a dedication to him, and so I feel
- 13:07Speaker 1: like she really loved him, and I feel like the
- 13:10Speaker 1: rumor was that his parents didn't want him to marry her,
- 13:14Speaker 1: which is like he called off the engagement allegedly, allegedly,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and then he ends up with Jennifer Garner, which she's
- 13:23Speaker 1: a cutie. We love Jennifer Garner. Love Jennifer Garner, love her.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Um and yeah, and now we are back, um, back
- 13:34Speaker 1: in the early two thousand's. Apparently Pennifer is back. I'm like,
- 13:37Speaker 1: it makes me giddy. It makes me so excited. The nostalgia.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And you know what it is too, is because they've
- 13:43Speaker 1: both aged really well, right, so they look good together again. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and sometimes it's yeah, sometimes it's like okay, obviously, don't
- 13:54Speaker 1: like wait around for your toxic egg or anything, but
- 13:58Speaker 1: it's like sometimes will need time apart, and then they
- 14:02Speaker 1: come back together after many many years, many relationships and
- 14:05Speaker 1: kids later. Right. I think this works like for mature people,
- 14:08Speaker 1: older people, and it works in those ways because the girl,
- 14:12Speaker 1: the growth has happened, and you know, there's nothing like
- 14:16Speaker 1: getting back to a tried and true ride, you know
- 14:22Speaker 1: what I mean? She knows when you go to Disneyland,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you know you're gonna get on the matter Horn. You
- 14:28Speaker 1: know it's going to be fun. You know that it's
- 14:30Speaker 1: going to be worth the long wait in line. Yes,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Shela waited and she she wrote the matter Horn. She
- 14:37Speaker 1: went back because there was like it was going to
- 14:40Speaker 1: be a good time, and she knew it was going
- 14:42Speaker 1: to be a good time. And I'm proud of her. Yes, Yes,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I've been living for like the photos like that, We've
- 14:48Speaker 1: been seeing of them online, like just thinking out supposedly, Um,
- 14:53Speaker 1: he's wrecked in the best way. They both look wrecked
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the best way. Honestly, I'm like, Okay, I've seen
- 15:02Speaker 1: that before. I'm living for it. I'm living for it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I just know that Ben in his brain is like,
- 15:08Speaker 1: how is she in better shape now than she was
- 15:14Speaker 1: in the Jenny from the Block video on the yacht? Like, Bill,
- 15:19Speaker 1: is she really really is? Yeah? And then so folks
- 15:24Speaker 1: were like also freaking out because in the midst of
- 15:27Speaker 1: benefit P Diddy takes to Instagram and Sean decides to
- 15:33Speaker 1: post a throwback photo of him and Jay Low and
- 15:37Speaker 1: they were together in the early two thousands of nineties,
- 15:41Speaker 1: back whenever yeah, I feel I've seen P Diddy thirsting
- 15:47Speaker 1: for j Lo very publicly, like the last year, Like
- 15:50Speaker 1: he commented on one of her photos when she was
- 15:52Speaker 1: engaged with a rod and I was dying. I can't
- 15:54Speaker 1: remember exactly what it was, but it was a suggestive
- 15:57Speaker 1: comment and people were like, um, and now I feel
- 16:01Speaker 1: like he wants to put his hat in the ring.
- 16:03Speaker 1: But you know, in that case, I think Jlo has
- 16:06Speaker 1: outgrown P Diddy. He's like has a lot. I feel
- 16:09Speaker 1: like he has a lot of work to do based
- 16:11Speaker 1: on things that I've heard and seen. Um. Yeah, he
- 16:15Speaker 1: was a cathie for many years, right, and then the
- 16:18Speaker 1: mother of his kids passed away recently and he's been
- 16:21Speaker 1: like publicly mourning that, which I you know, I feel
- 16:24Speaker 1: I feel that I feel that. Um, but now he's like,
- 16:27Speaker 1: seems like he's throwing his hat in the ring there.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It does seem that way. And I will say this
- 16:33Speaker 1: that j Lo is not one to get into like
- 16:37Speaker 1: she's not going to get her hands dirty criminally, legally, financially.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Like j Lo I think likes her ends to be
- 16:48Speaker 1: tied up and everything to be in order, Like she's
- 16:52Speaker 1: not in and out of courtrooms that's just not that's
- 16:56Speaker 1: never been her style. And Shan Kong was presented that
- 17:02Speaker 1: sort of like situation to JL. While they were together,
- 17:06Speaker 1: there was like a shooting and some other ship and
- 17:08Speaker 1: some other things and some other things happened. So I
- 17:10Speaker 1: just feel like j Lo is like, let me avoid
- 17:12Speaker 1: the drama, you know what I mean, And let's go
- 17:15Speaker 1: see Ben. Let's go see Mark because we're co parenting,
- 17:19Speaker 1: co parenting. Yeah. I mean that photo of Mark and
- 17:22Speaker 1: Jlo did not really surprise me. I mean, they're co parenting.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It seems like they've been on good terms for many years.
- 17:28Speaker 1: So I was just like, Okay, that to me was
- 17:30Speaker 1: like the most like boring photo of them all um
- 17:34Speaker 1: to me because I was like, this is regular. They're
- 17:36Speaker 1: they they're in Miami, they're co parenting, you know what
- 17:40Speaker 1: have you? Um? Yeah, but the rest have been super exciting.
- 17:45Speaker 1: The drama. Yeah, what did you What did you think
- 17:51Speaker 1: when you saw that photo of her with Mark Anthony? Okay,
- 17:54Speaker 1: well I was swept up. So at first I was like,
- 17:57Speaker 1: oh my god, no way. Somebody was like, oh, like
- 18:02Speaker 1: her eggs husband that she is still raising children with.
- 18:05Speaker 1: She like actively co parents to minor children with him
- 18:08Speaker 1: like of course they see each other. It brought back
- 18:10Speaker 1: to my senses. But it was exciting in the moment. Okay, yes,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I was gonna say. I think I wasn't that excited
- 18:17Speaker 1: because they've posted photos of like themselves, Mark and j
- 18:20Speaker 1: Loo with a Rod and the kids. So I was
- 18:24Speaker 1: just like they called parents like, we've seen more, We've
- 18:28Speaker 1: seen juicier photos of this. Um. So that was my
- 18:31Speaker 1: take on it. But what were you going to say?
- 18:33Speaker 1: I also feel that Okay, obviously a Rod was very
- 18:39Speaker 1: much like Twitter painted puppy dog boyfriend, like very doting.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I got that vibe, that sense again based on their
- 18:49Speaker 1: outward public appearances, the vibe that I was getting from
- 18:54Speaker 1: over here, from way over here, UM was like, you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: a Rod was kind of like a little more Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 1: very doting. She's like she's like very precious to him.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You know. I think Ben is like, wow, very dazzled
- 19:09Speaker 1: by her. I think that he's very taken with her.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I think that he's like overwhelmed by every her nest,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, the j Lo glow. You know. I think
- 19:19Speaker 1: that he's taken, Yes, but I think that Mark Anthony,
- 19:23Speaker 1: Mark Anthony does not give her the satisfaction of like
- 19:28Speaker 1: blowing up her spot. He's very cool on her. He's
- 19:31Speaker 1: not like, like like hyping her up constantly. And I
- 19:34Speaker 1: think that the others sort of do more of that
- 19:36Speaker 1: for her. Yeah, I agree. I mean in many ways,
- 19:40Speaker 1: Mark Anthony is a bigger star. Yes, you know, you
- 19:45Speaker 1: mean he's a vocalist, Like he's a bigger star depending
- 19:48Speaker 1: who you ask, right, um, and so yeah, I always
- 19:52Speaker 1: felt like Mark Anthony, outwardly, right, was more of like
- 19:56Speaker 1: typical machista husband was going to be controlled. I remember,
- 20:01Speaker 1: because I've been following Jelo for many years, like many
- 20:03Speaker 1: of us have, I remember her looks drastically changed when
- 20:08Speaker 1: she was married to him. She was very covered up.
- 20:11Speaker 1: She was like, would wear long sleeves. I remember one
- 20:13Speaker 1: time she had her hair wrapped and was wearing a
- 20:15Speaker 1: long sleeve like cape looking dress at some award show.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'll never forget this. And like, you know, she seemed
- 20:22Speaker 1: like she toned herself down a lot in that marriage publicly,
- 20:25Speaker 1: outreardly what I observed, right, um, And so this is
- 20:28Speaker 1: what I observed as a fan, that her looks changed
- 20:32Speaker 1: in that way. And sometimes that does happen depending on
- 20:34Speaker 1: who we're with um, but I feel like he had
- 20:38Speaker 1: a lot of like the makings of like like quote
- 20:41Speaker 1: traditional motista husband, a lot you know, being married to
- 20:45Speaker 1: a Latino that doesn't get it, who also is like
- 20:50Speaker 1: feels like he is the diva, he's the star, he's
- 20:54Speaker 1: the start, he's the diva, and so how can she
- 20:58Speaker 1: outshine him? But in appearance, he looks like he's always
- 21:03Speaker 1: looked like just like a little chiwah with To me,
- 21:04Speaker 1: it's so small. I've seen him live a couple of
- 21:09Speaker 1: times and he's very small. Love him, to love him.
- 21:13Speaker 1: He's one of my favorites. But um, yeah, he's very tiny. Yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and like physically and when Jaylo is all put together
- 21:20Speaker 1: and has her whole look, even when she's not all
- 21:21Speaker 1: put together, you know, but when she's on a red
- 21:24Speaker 1: carpet and she's had to dope, had to tell j
- 21:26Speaker 1: Lo like of course she's going to outshine him. You know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: there's not enough fabric to hang on his tiny, little
- 21:33Speaker 1: delicate frame to compete like with j Lo. Right, So
- 21:39Speaker 1: it's exciting again Team benefit. I hope to see more.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I hope there's more for us, team benefit. And also
- 21:46Speaker 1: can I just say, like j Lo just like she
- 21:51Speaker 1: I feel like, knows what she wants and she's not
- 21:54Speaker 1: afraid to like give me, you know clearly. Like there's
- 22:01Speaker 1: lots of jokes about her, like get having as many
- 22:03Speaker 1: rings as thados, right, and like there's like those kinds
- 22:05Speaker 1: of kinds of jokes like that, right, like like making
- 22:09Speaker 1: equivalent to like sports, like sports championships and those kinds
- 22:13Speaker 1: of things. And I feel like she doesn't she doesn't care,
- 22:16Speaker 1: and like the mus and jokes are funny, but like
- 22:18Speaker 1: really she doesn't care. She doesn't care. Um, And I
- 22:23Speaker 1: need to see if this is an actual j Lo
- 22:26Speaker 1: quote or if I just attribute this to j Lo.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But I feel like I once saw this interview or
- 22:32Speaker 1: I read an interview that someone did with j Lo
- 22:36Speaker 1: and they asked her about one of her boyfriends at
- 22:38Speaker 1: one point, and they were asking, do you think that
- 22:40Speaker 1: she'll get married again? Maybe this was around the Casper
- 22:43Speaker 1: era and and um Casper smart right? Was that not
- 22:47Speaker 1: his name? And I seem to remember j Loo saying
- 22:51Speaker 1: I don't know, like anything as possible. I love getting married.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I love to get married. That is so funny. I
- 22:58Speaker 1: feel like you're probably that's so her. I think you're right.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Also I feel like she's like the Elizabeth Taylor of
- 23:05Speaker 1: our time in terms of husbands and marriage and relationships.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Like she's the Elizabeth Taylor of our time. She doesn't care.
- 23:15Speaker 1: She's beautiful, she's fabulous, she has her own career, her home, money,
- 23:18Speaker 1: like she doesn't need to worry about getting divorced in things.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You know. Also, also let me just say, like not
- 23:26Speaker 1: to that type of j look too much, because she's
- 23:28Speaker 1: done lots of problematic ship in the past, Like you know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: we recognize that. But considering she's a Latina and the
- 23:35Speaker 1: way our community like quote values marriage, and she's just
- 23:38Speaker 1: like I love being married. I'm gonna keep getting married.
- 23:41Speaker 1: That's that's that's something that I love that. I can't lie.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. I mean, look, if
- 23:49Speaker 1: j Loo has anything, it's stamina, you know, and like
- 23:53Speaker 1: a sense of what she wants, like you said, and
- 23:56Speaker 1: she's going to get it, and she's been getting it
- 23:58Speaker 1: for some time now, for a very long time. So
- 24:02Speaker 1: hope that we see you. We actually have been talking
- 24:05Speaker 1: about listeners. We've been talking about doing a full on
- 24:08Speaker 1: j LO like introspective like episode, like a deep dive
- 24:14Speaker 1: into one Jennifer Lopez, so that is likely coming in
- 24:19Speaker 1: the future. So this is not that, this is just
- 24:23Speaker 1: current events. She's on She's on fire recently, so we
- 24:26Speaker 1: had to give j Lo a shout out today. But yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I expect that, yes, and and and and es of
- 25:15Speaker 1: it and little ship. Hey, look, amores, we have a
- 25:21Speaker 1: quick announcement about our I Fund Women campaign. As you
- 25:25Speaker 1: may have heard, we're raising one hundred thousand dollars to
- 25:28Speaker 1: cover the startup costs of look At Productions and pay
- 25:31Speaker 1: our team. We are well on our way to reaching
- 25:33Speaker 1: our goal, but we still need your help to get there.
- 25:36Speaker 1: If all of our listeners and one friend donated five dollars,
- 25:40Speaker 1: we would meet our goal well before ninety days. Consider
- 25:43Speaker 1: becoming a funder of look At thought our productions and
- 25:46Speaker 1: contribute on I fund Women dot com forward Slash Project
- 25:50Speaker 1: forward Slash look Dash Productions. So pivoting a little bit
- 25:56Speaker 1: or a lot, actually pivoting pivoting a lot to current events,
- 26:01Speaker 1: world news news important to me. Um if you haven't
- 26:06Speaker 1: heard by the time this episode is out, but who
- 26:08Speaker 1: will have a newly elected president. But at the time
- 26:11Speaker 1: they were recording its election day, so it's January January.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Oh my, God, it's not January. It's June six. I'm
- 26:18Speaker 1: triggered by January six. It's June six. Whoa, um, so
- 26:25Speaker 1: it's June six. Today I got to vote for the
- 26:28Speaker 1: second time in the presidential elections, and it's quite an experience.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I was telling mala, Um, this was my second time
- 26:36Speaker 1: voting because this is a runoff election. Actually, so this
- 26:39Speaker 1: was my second time voting. The first time that I voted,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I got the times wrong, got there right when they
- 26:43Speaker 1: were closing, and luckily they were nice to me and
- 26:45Speaker 1: they were like, go hurry, get your vote in. So
- 26:47Speaker 1: I voted the second time. I made sure this time around,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I made sure to get there early enough. Um. And
- 26:52Speaker 1: it was quite an experience. There were tons of people,
- 26:56Speaker 1: um wearing their play as in people in football, A
- 27:00Speaker 1: lots of people wear in their mat shirts, people Senora
- 27:03Speaker 1: selling food from their car like they had their little plateaus.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It was an event and I was telling my like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: completely different from elections here, um, they tend to be
- 27:13Speaker 1: more of like a somber, serious, tense event. Right today
- 27:17Speaker 1: felt like people were energized. Um. And it's like a
- 27:22Speaker 1: historical election because um, not only is BETU reaching their
- 27:27Speaker 1: bicentennial this year. Um. But also gay Fujimori, the daughter
- 27:34Speaker 1: of Alberto Fujimori, dictator of Peru, who's currently incarcerated for
- 27:40Speaker 1: human rights violations and money laundering and a ton of
- 27:44Speaker 1: other things, is running and she's a neoliberalist, also very corrupt,
- 27:50Speaker 1: has been accused of lots of things, UM, like money
- 27:52Speaker 1: laundering and corruption, and she's running LAMA and that's the Processodo.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So in mandamrrow is that plan and Fum, the Fujimorristas
- 28:25Speaker 1: in Peru have their own like movement and I hate
- 28:28Speaker 1: to call it a movement, but that's what it is.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And Um, the person that's running against gay Go Fujimori
- 28:34Speaker 1: is pro Castillo and Um he is a what you
- 28:40Speaker 1: would call like anista. And to me, it's really funny
- 28:43Speaker 1: that they're like calling him like a socialist or a
- 28:46Speaker 1: Marxist because he's actually anti gay marriage and he's anti abortion.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And so when I hear these conversations, I'm like, well,
- 28:53Speaker 1: how far left are you actually when it comes to
- 28:57Speaker 1: social you know, social well being, the social issues, he's not.
- 29:02Speaker 1: He's conservative, right, he's not a far left, but in
- 29:04Speaker 1: terms of like the economy, he would be considered more
- 29:07Speaker 1: of a he would be considered a Marxist and rista.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And because Peru is like recovering from still during the
- 29:16Speaker 1: Lumino so um communism. As we know, there's a lot
- 29:20Speaker 1: of fearmongering when it comes to any type of discussion
- 29:23Speaker 1: of communism. And because he's a far left and we
- 29:25Speaker 1: have this like neoliberalist but also incredibly correct person running
- 29:30Speaker 1: against him, there's lots of tension. And so as we're recording,
- 29:35Speaker 1: the poll is like super super close. I feel like,
- 29:38Speaker 1: very similar to how our past presidential election where it
- 29:42Speaker 1: was like down to the percentages, right, And so you know,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I'm praying that Gustio wins. Even though he was not
- 29:50Speaker 1: my selection. He's not who I wanted to you know,
- 29:55Speaker 1: be the be the the candidate he was in my candidate,
- 29:59Speaker 1: right Um, but it considering who he's running against, I
- 30:02Speaker 1: gave him my vote and I'm just you know, hoping
- 30:04Speaker 1: for the best. Thank you so much for giving us
- 30:07Speaker 1: the rundown, because I know I didn't know anything about
- 30:11Speaker 1: really the run up to this election except for this
- 30:16Speaker 1: urgency not to have another Fujimota like in office because
- 30:21Speaker 1: of this historical precedent. So thank you so much for sharing.
- 30:25Speaker 1: And I don't know, I think it's super awesome that
- 30:28Speaker 1: the also voted in the proving election here in California,
- 30:31Speaker 1: Like that's cool. Yeah, yeah, I mean this isn't why
- 30:34Speaker 1: I voted, but I think this is an interesting practice
- 30:37Speaker 1: that BIDU does have, is that if you don't vote,
- 30:39Speaker 1: you actually get fined. So even as someone alex Ranjiro,
- 30:42Speaker 1: I would get fined when entering bid Of course that's
- 30:46Speaker 1: not why I voted, but it is something that that
- 30:49Speaker 1: it does for some people to vote. You know. Wow,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't know that either. That's fascinating. So the next
- 30:55Speaker 1: time you go you visit, they will know that you
- 30:59Speaker 1: cast for ballot, know whether or not you voted, right,
- 31:04Speaker 1: I mean, that's a system. Everybody has their system. It's
- 31:08Speaker 1: a system. I know Mexico does this, does this, but
- 31:11Speaker 1: there's also LASCA. So the day before elections, no alcohol
- 31:15Speaker 1: is sold anywhere. Um I'm sure that that that's true
- 31:19Speaker 1: for other places in Latin America. So yeah, this is
- 31:22Speaker 1: a historical election and the next time we we chat
- 31:26Speaker 1: with y'all, you know, we'll be able to debrief. And
- 31:29Speaker 1: I'm hoping that Gustio is elected and not Fujimoni because
- 31:33Speaker 1: I'm worried for the future of Fidu and even though
- 31:37Speaker 1: I don't live there like I still I still want
- 31:40Speaker 1: get of course, So this has been a really well
- 31:48Speaker 1: rounded episode. We've covered literally from Ellie Kemper to benefit
- 31:57Speaker 1: to the preview elections. Yes, we do it. Don't ever
- 32:00Speaker 1: let anybody tell you we're not well rounded. We can
- 32:03Speaker 1: cover it all. It is very true. So that being said, um,
- 32:10Speaker 1: we're worth investing in head over to I fund Women
- 32:13Speaker 1: dot Com, Forward Slash Projects, Forward Slash look at a
- 32:17Speaker 1: Dash Productions to contribute to our ninety days to campaign.
- 32:23Speaker 1: We're launching our own production house. As you know, we've
- 32:26Speaker 1: been podcasting at the indie level since two thousand and sixteen,
- 32:29Speaker 1: the ASA and I we've grown exponentially. We sell ads. Now,
- 32:34Speaker 1: we have a team. We continue to produce our own
- 32:37Speaker 1: work and we are producing new shows. I have a
- 32:40Speaker 1: new show coming out under the Look at a Productions
- 32:42Speaker 1: banner called Jana. Yes, it's a podcast from hot Heads.
- 32:46Speaker 1: It's a web series about weed. It's both. So we
- 32:50Speaker 1: have even more work coming out. Bolsa has new projects
- 32:53Speaker 1: at the also spearheading and launching and if you would
- 32:57Speaker 1: like to help fund these projects and help us to
- 33:00Speaker 1: pay our team. You can contribute to our iPhone Women
- 33:02Speaker 1: campaign And before we go today, we're going to read
- 33:05Speaker 1: off some more names of funders who are helping us
- 33:08Speaker 1: to make all of our dreams come true. Yeah, so
- 33:11Speaker 1: we quickly want to thank biggest thank you to Amaya,
- 33:15Speaker 1: Amanda Cortes, Magdalena Flores, Emily Franco, el Va, Elena Ortiz,
- 33:23Speaker 1: Diana Volona, Laticia, Anna, Giselle Laticia, Jennifer Stover, Melina, Daisy Vasquez, Gatia,
- 33:34Speaker 1: Esteban Uribe and Carla. Thank you so much y'all for contributing.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And if you didn't hear your name this time, no worries.
- 33:41Speaker 1: We will get to you next time. Alright, this has
