- 0:44SPEAKER_06: New year.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: New swag.
- 0:46SPEAKER_09: It's a fine looking shirt you got on there, Coach.
- 0:48SPEAKER_06: Thanks, 5B Designs and Shannon.
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: And uh yeah, uh, you know.
- 0:54SPEAKER_09: Coming to a rink near you.
- 0:55SPEAKER_06: Coming to a rink near you.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: You might see uh a hacky sack, or two.
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: You might see some hats.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01SPEAKER_06: Uh stickers are always good, uh, those two.
- 1:05SPEAKER_06: But uh uh, I'm excited about this episode because way back in July, I think, of last year, we talked about the idea of kids' favorite drills.
- 1:17SPEAKER_06: What uh is their favorite drill and why?
- 1:20SPEAKER_06: And we've kind of morphed that idea into that same concept of whose favorite drill and why, but combining it with our friends over at Drift Hockey, drawing it out on the whiteboard.
- 1:32SPEAKER_06: So today is a whiteboard episode uh from a goalies perspective, a defenseman's perspective, a forward's perspective, uh, along with their voices and uh and hopefully some uh some memorable one-liners.
- 1:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, we've got some great kids.
- 1:46SPEAKER_09: Um, we actually have two goalies.
- 1:49SPEAKER_09: Uh we we have two defensemen, one's gonna join us a little late.
- 1:53SPEAKER_09: Love it, and uh, we've got a forward, and um, you know, I'm I'm anxious to not only hear uh what their favorite drills are and their favorite games, but why.
- 2:03SPEAKER_09: And if there's a little bit of uh making fun of their coaches or doing impersonations or telling some funny stories, I'm here for it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: I think you're wanting them to make fun of you, is what I'm hearing.
- 2:13SPEAKER_09: Well, I I know that I I got made fun of yesterday at the Francisco the helmet I wore.
- 2:19SPEAKER_09: I think there were some strange looks.
- 2:20SPEAKER_09: There's a that it's right back there.
- 2:22SPEAKER_09: It's the Yellow Cooper SK 2000.
- 2:23SPEAKER_09: Shout out to Mary Lanillo.
- 2:25SPEAKER_09: Um, but uh uh this is what it's all about.
- 2:29SPEAKER_09: And we're in this part of the year where coaches are starting to get back on the ice.
- 2:33SPEAKER_09: Uh kids are back on the ice, you know, kind of still in a relaxed mode.
- 2:37SPEAKER_09: And most coaches that I know, when they're out there, they're having fun, they're getting the kids used to being back on the ice.
- 2:43SPEAKER_09: Um, but uh, you know, before you know it, we're gonna be into August and September.
- 2:48SPEAKER_09: And like you said, it you're the calendar's gonna turn, and we're playing hockey, uh, hockey for real, hockey to keep scores.
- 2:54SPEAKER_06: It's an opportunity to be a thief, too.
- 2:56SPEAKER_06: If you're a coach out there listening to this episode, you're gonna walk away with five drills, check them out, think about if you want to incorporate them into your practice plan, depending on what level kids you coach.
- 3:07SPEAKER_06: Uh, but the consistency across this is fun.
- 3:11SPEAKER_06: So I want to hear why these kids think these drills are fun.
- 3:14SPEAKER_09: Well, and what I'm hoping for is we can name all of these drills just one more coach, part one, just one more coach, part two, just one more coach, because that's the markup.
- 3:22SPEAKER_09: You know, you've got a good practice going on when the kids like one more coach, one more coach, just one more.
- 3:26SPEAKER_06: That's what we should end each of these segments with, which is coin your drill.
- 3:31SPEAKER_06: I can't wait to hear what the kids coin their drills.
- 3:34SPEAKER_09: Well, let's bring our special guests on here and we'll go through each each one in order.
- 3:39SPEAKER_09: We've got Will Mouth Alexander, forward for the Ledue Rams and the St.
- 3:45SPEAKER_09: Louis Rockets.
- 3:46SPEAKER_09: Uh, we've got Simon Leeds, who is a goaltender uh with the St.
- 3:50SPEAKER_09: Louis Knights and the Ledue Rams, and then Evan Alvarado, defenseman for the U11 uh St.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: Louis Eagles, and Gabe Dulat, goaltender for the U11 St.
- 4:02SPEAKER_09: Louis Eagles.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: Guys, what is going on?
- 4:05SPEAKER_09: Welcome to the show.
- 4:08SPEAKER_09: Thank you for having me.
- 4:10SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 4:12SPEAKER_06: Way to step up, Will.
- 4:13SPEAKER_09: Way to go, Will.
- 4:14SPEAKER_09: Way to go, Will.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: Evan, I mean, that's an awful uh that's an awful big trophy case.
- 4:18SPEAKER_09: Actually, I should say that's a very small trophy case for an awful lot of trophies.
- 4:22SPEAKER_09: Why don't you tell us which one's your favorite one out of there?
- 4:25SPEAKER_11: Uh this one in the back.
- 4:29SPEAKER_09: The big one?
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: The big one, of course.
- 4:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, what one's that from?
- 4:35SPEAKER_11: I honestly don't know.
- 4:37SPEAKER_06: There's so many he can't remember.
- 4:39SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 4:39SPEAKER_06: Is that a cowboy hat too?
- 4:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's the Eagles one.
- 4:43SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 4:43SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 4:44SPEAKER_09: Player the game.
- 4:45SPEAKER_09: Gabe, you're coming to us from your bedroom, it looks like.
- 4:51SPEAKER_09: Having a good day?
- 4:52SPEAKER_09: You having a good day?
- 4:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_09: Gabe was getting so mad at me because we were doing this drill at both ends of the ice and he was watching the drill, and I would go down and just like push a puff past him.
- 5:06SPEAKER_09: Simon, you look like somebody's uh got you in in uh in a room with a mug shot.
- 5:11SPEAKER_09: Where are you, buddy?
- 5:12SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Simon, you on mute?
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: No, what's up?
- 5:18SPEAKER_09: Where where are you joining us right now?
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I'm from I'm at Maryville right now.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: I practice a lot joining you from Maryville in one of the meeting rooms.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there you go.
- 5:28SPEAKER_09: All right, mouth.
- 5:29SPEAKER_09: Let's start right off with you, buddy.
- 5:30SPEAKER_09: Like, tell us how your summer's been going and talk a little bit about the you know, the game, the the drill or game that you want uh want to introduce and draw up, but give us a little backstory behind it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_09: Tell us why.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: So should I start with like my summer or should I start with the drill?
- 5:45SPEAKER_09: Why don't you start with your summer?
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: Okay, so um I've just been like working out, you know, playing hockey.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: Uh I was in Wisconsin for like a week, um, like two weeks ago.
- 5:56SPEAKER_06: Uh with hockey or or or just vacation?
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: Just vacation.
- 6:00SPEAKER_06: Um what do you what do you do when you're vacationing up in Wisconsin?
- 6:03SPEAKER_06: Do you fish?
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we have like a like lake house, so you can go on like kayaks and you know, uh fish, baby guns, you know.
- 6:13SPEAKER_09: You guys do you guys call it a cottage?
- 6:14SPEAKER_09: You guys call it a cottage?
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: No, we don't.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Might be a missed opportunity.
- 6:20unknown: I don't know.
- 6:23SPEAKER_09: I think you should start calling it a cottage.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'll I'll look into that.
- 6:29SPEAKER_09: What part of cot what part of uh Wisconsin are you?
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: Are you guys uh Door County?
- 6:35SPEAKER_09: Where's that by?
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know, but it's like I don't know.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: What a door, how far is it from does it take you to get there from home?
- 6:45SPEAKER_04: From home?
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: Um so like we stopped in Chicago, so I would say it was like five hours to Chicago, or no, it was like four hours to Chicago, and then like another four and a half hours to Door County's.
- 6:57SPEAKER_09: Wow, you're heading up that's north of Green Bay, you're up by Lake Yeah, yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_09: Who catches more fish?
- 7:03SPEAKER_09: You or you or your dad?
- 7:04SPEAKER_09: Who catches the most fish in your family?
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know, probably me.
- 7:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_09: Are you are you going?
- 7:10SPEAKER_09: Are you going lures or you going bait live bait?
- 7:13SPEAKER_04: Um, live bait most of the time.
- 7:16SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 7:16SPEAKER_09: This is important stuff.
- 7:17SPEAKER_09: We've this is really important.
- 7:18SPEAKER_09: This is doing stuff not hockey related.
- 7:20SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 7:21SPEAKER_09: A lot of patience.
- 7:22SPEAKER_09: Well, let's talk a little bit about what game and drill you want to bring to the table here.
- 7:25SPEAKER_09: So let me go ahead and you know get uh get the screen up.
- 7:32unknown: Okay.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: And tell us a little bit about the game before we start.
- 7:34SPEAKER_09: What are we doing here?
- 7:35SPEAKER_09: What are we what are we doing?
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's the one that we'll do at the end of like Ladoo, usually.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: Uh you have like two nets facing each other, usually on like the blue lines.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: And um, it's like you have like the opposing teams kind of lined up on like the sides of the nets, and it's a 2v2, and you have to race around.
- 7:57SPEAKER_04: There's like a pug in the middle, and basically at the red one, and you have to it's 2v2, and you have to race around the net and get to the puck.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: And then to get possession, you have to pass to like basically anybody that's in that like big line on like the sides of those nets.
- 8:15SPEAKER_09: And so if you're if you're a blue if you're a blue player trying to score on this net, your guys are on this side of the red line.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: Cool.
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: So I'll set it up like this.
- 8:30SPEAKER_09: Do this right here.
- 8:32SPEAKER_09: And then you start behind where you start behind this net over here, right?
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: Oh no, so it'd be like blue just lined up that whole side.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: And so yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 8:45SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: And then white would be just like on the other side.
- 8:51SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 8:54SPEAKER_06: So you have somebody to pass to whether you're a defensive zone or the off the defensive side of the center line or the offensive side of the center line.
- 9:05SPEAKER_09: So you're starting off on this side of the you're is blue trying to score on this net here.
- 9:10SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 9:10unknown: Okay.
- 9:11SPEAKER_09: And then we'll do red for the other color just because you know we've got it's hard to see white on it.
- 9:16SPEAKER_09: Hard to see white on blue.
- 9:20SPEAKER_09: How's that look?
- 9:21SPEAKER_09: Good so far?
- 9:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 9:26SPEAKER_09: And so you're ra so you race.
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: So what do we do?
- 9:29SPEAKER_09: We race around the nets?
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: So you have to the players will have to go around their own net and then go for the puck in the middle.
- 9:39SPEAKER_09: Okay, I gotcha.
- 9:40SPEAKER_09: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 9:41SPEAKER_09: Okay, so this is what we're gonna do then.
- 9:43SPEAKER_09: Let's uh let's move these boys over here.
- 9:49SPEAKER_09: So basically, what we're doing is this.
- 9:51SPEAKER_09: We're gonna have the first two guys in line come around the net like this.
- 9:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and then and then we've got the blue team coming around the net like this.
- 10:05SPEAKER_09: Oh, get that going.
- 10:08SPEAKER_09: And we're racing to the puck playing 2v2.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: Yes, exactly.
- 10:13SPEAKER_09: And then you in order before you can score, you've got to pass to a teammate on the side, correct?
- 10:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it can be anybody, just in the hole.
- 10:22SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 10:23SPEAKER_09: What do we want to name this?
- 10:24SPEAKER_09: Uh what do we want to name this uh this game?
- 10:26SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 10:27SPEAKER_04: I was always kind of wondering because I like don't remember.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: There must have been a name for it, but I can't really remember.
- 10:34SPEAKER_09: Let's think about it.
- 10:35SPEAKER_06: Why open it up to the team?
- 10:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, why is it um uh help us understand?
- 10:40SPEAKER_06: Well, why is it uh why is this a fun drill for you?
- 10:43SPEAKER_04: Well, I like it because you have to be fast, and then it's kind of a small area in general, so you have to be able to, you know, get open for passes and also make passes.
- 10:55SPEAKER_04: And I also like it because even when you're like waiting for the drill, you're still kind of in the drill, right?
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: Because you could get a puck um for possession from the players that are in the game.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: So you're basically always in the drill.
- 11:09SPEAKER_06: So you gotta be paying attention all the time.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, can the players on the side can they shoot at the net as well, or do they have to just pass?
- 11:18SPEAKER_04: Oh no, they just have to pass back.
- 11:21SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 11:29SPEAKER_09: Simon or Gabe, what do you guys think of this drill as a goalie?
- 11:34SPEAKER_10: Uh a lot of action.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Uh it looks like things can turn around pretty quickly, so you gotta always stay in, and it looks pretty fun.
- 11:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, for sure.
- 11:45SPEAKER_09: Almost want to like kick it.
- 11:46SPEAKER_09: You want to, and since your team's only on one side, you almost want to kick it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_09: If you're gonna do a kicksafe, kick it to the guys on your side just to start the breakout, right?
- 11:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:55SPEAKER_10: Really close so people can shoot from anywhere.
- 11:59SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: I like the word I like how you guys use action to describe it.
- 12:04SPEAKER_06: Maybe it's uh action jacks.
- 12:08SPEAKER_06: That's the great movie.
- 12:09SPEAKER_06: Or lights, camera, action.
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 12:11SPEAKER_09: Um, but something with the word action in it, I feel like, and and because you got to pay attention to well, let's think of a name here, guys, while we've got this because we're gonna put this up on the website and give you guys all the credit in the world.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: Give this is how about okay.
- 12:28SPEAKER_09: How about how about Will's action?
- 12:31SPEAKER_09: Lights action mouth.
- 12:34SPEAKER_09: Or something.
- 12:34SPEAKER_09: What do you think, Will?
- 12:36SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, I don't know.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: You could go like the simple route and just call it like 2v2.
- 12:43SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 12:44SPEAKER_09: How about how about we do this?
- 12:45SPEAKER_09: We're gonna absolutely we're gonna call it mouths, mouth Alexander's 2v2, and that way we know it's not just a regular old 2v2.
- 12:56SPEAKER_09: That works.
- 12:57SPEAKER_09: Nice, man.
- 12:58SPEAKER_09: Nice, love it, love it, love it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_09: What uh what do you have going on?
- 13:03SPEAKER_09: Um, you you have practice tonight?
- 13:05SPEAKER_09: Where's your practice at?
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: Uh Brownwood.
- 13:08SPEAKER_09: Brownwood?
- 13:09SPEAKER_09: Solid, solid.
- 13:10SPEAKER_09: Are you doing um uh elite?
- 13:13SPEAKER_09: What what what uh group is this with?
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's just uh you know Sean Rhodes.
- 13:17SPEAKER_04: I do know Sean Rhodes.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just uh private lessons.
- 13:21SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 13:21SPEAKER_09: Thanks.
- 13:22SPEAKER_09: Good stuff, man.
- 13:22SPEAKER_09: Excellent.
- 13:23SPEAKER_09: What are you gonna be working on?
- 13:24SPEAKER_09: Um, probably skating.
- 13:26SPEAKER_09: Scoring on goal scoring on goalies, right?
- 13:29SPEAKER_09: Right, Gabe?
- 13:32SPEAKER_09: Gabe is anti letting the he's like he's like uh you see sorrow's no goals, no goals.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Will it's gonna need a lot of practice to get good at that one.
- 13:43SPEAKER_09: Uh here we go.
- 13:45SPEAKER_09: There we go.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: There's a dart.
- 13:47SPEAKER_09: Love it.
- 13:47SPEAKER_09: These guys are gonna be playing together too in high school in a couple days.
- 13:50SPEAKER_06: That's a fantastic uh segue.
- 13:52SPEAKER_06: So uh Simon, I think you're up next, buddy.
- 13:55SPEAKER_06: Goaltenders perspective, and uh same uh same agenda.
- 13:59SPEAKER_06: What have you been doing this summer?
- 14:01SPEAKER_06: Uh you going on did you go on vacation anywhere, do anything fun?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so for the um past four weeks, I've been at Sleep Boy Camp up in Wisconsin.
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: Nice, and everybody goes to Wisconsin.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Solid.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so and then when I'm not there, I'm working at a preschool camp just to volunteer, and it's kind of fun then playing golf a lot.
- 14:23SPEAKER_06: So are you a good golfer?
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm pretty good.
- 14:26SPEAKER_09: Oh, oh, oh, okay.
- 14:28SPEAKER_09: We gotta talk a little bit about this here.
- 14:30SPEAKER_09: Hang on, we gotta talk a little bit about this.
- 14:32SPEAKER_09: All right, so when when's the last time you went out and shot nine?
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Uh wait, what?
- 14:40SPEAKER_09: When's the last time you went out and shot?
- 14:42SPEAKER_09: Was he shot nine or eighteen?
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: I played nine a couple days ago, shot at 37 from the tips.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: What?
- 14:49SPEAKER_09: Okay, okay.
- 14:49SPEAKER_09: No, no, no, no.
- 14:51SPEAKER_09: What what course?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Uh Ruth Park.
- 14:54SPEAKER_09: What day?
- 14:56SPEAKER_09: Because I was at Ruth Park two days ago and I shot at 37.
- 14:59SPEAKER_09: It was Sunday.
- 15:00SPEAKER_09: It's just not about you.
- 15:03SPEAKER_09: I want to go golfing with Simon.
- 15:05SPEAKER_09: If I'm gonna be coaching this kid at some point in time at Ledoux, I need to know how good of a golfer he is.
- 15:10SPEAKER_09: Because if he's good, he's gonna be on my team.
- 15:12SPEAKER_09: It's like my team is gonna have a ringer for four songs.
- 15:16SPEAKER_09: That's awesome.
- 15:17SPEAKER_09: Were you golfing with your who'd you guys who'd you golf with friends or your dad?
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Or I went with uh my dad.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just the two of us.
- 15:24SPEAKER_06: And and uh uh how's your dad?
- 15:26SPEAKER_06: Is uh it can can you uh dust him or uh does it depend.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: My my best is better than his best, but he's a little more consistent than me.
- 15:36SPEAKER_09: Ah nice, nice.
- 15:37SPEAKER_09: What kind of clubs you hit?
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Um I have a ping driver, tailor-made three wood, and then ping irons.
- 15:46SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 15:47SPEAKER_09: What uh what what irons do you have?
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, well, I'm in the middle of sets, so I have my dad's old one right now.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: I have I-15s.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, those are nice.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: I have Vokey wedges and a Scotty for on top of it.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: This guy's a stick.
- 16:00SPEAKER_09: This guy's a stick, man.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: He's got the tools.
- 16:02SPEAKER_09: I love it.
- 16:03SPEAKER_09: I love it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_09: Well, let's hear first first goalie perspective.
- 16:07SPEAKER_09: Let's take a look at what we've got going here.
- 16:09SPEAKER_09: The uh the floor is yours, uh, Jack Nicholas.
- 16:13SPEAKER_09: What do you got?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: So um I don't know what my drill is called, but it starts as well, the setup is kind of six you style cross size in one of the in one of the two attacking zones.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter which one.
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: But nets are inside the circles, yeah.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Uh outside around the hash marks.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: But it doesn't really matter, just hash marks.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Right there, yeah, right there is good.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Um, both sides.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: And this is a um it's a 2v2 drill with back checking kind of.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: So in pretend that that little mini rink is like split in half almost.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: And um so if that's split in half, then it's a 2v2 on like this, yeah.
- 17:06unknown: Great.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, so then it's a uh it's a 2v2 on one of the sides, and then one player, and then two players are um the two per players from the defending team are sitting at that line waiting for the defense to get the puck and pass to them, and then the forwards have got a back check, and and then the forwards have to back check and um get back to them, and it's kind of chaos, and it's fun because you make a lot of uh desperation saves, and you gotta stay on your toes.
- 17:44SPEAKER_09: So is it continuous?
- 17:47SPEAKER_09: Is it just uh yeah, it's continuous.
- 17:49SPEAKER_09: So even if you don't score, like the the coach could blow the whistle and you and the next guy's up in line go and become the new back checkers, and the other guys become the new forecheckers.
- 17:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, actually, I did this backwards.
- 17:59SPEAKER_09: This should be blue here, yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_09: This should be red down here.
- 18:03SPEAKER_09: I love this.
- 18:04SPEAKER_09: This is a great so you start it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_09: A team starts off as the attacking team.
- 18:09SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 18:09SPEAKER_09: So like coach could say, hey, pick a number one through five, and then whichever team.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Well, like if you want to say so.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: You could say that the um the red team is starting on attack, they'll start as a they'll start as a two on two with the blue team.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: When the blue team recovers the puck, they pass to their two forwards.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: They go down and they'll sh uh come shoot on the red goalie, and they can go to they go two-on-o, and the red team has to come back and uh back check.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: So the first save is always a desperation save, usually, because they pass back and forth and kind of diving around the crease, but then as um like as you get deeper into it, sometimes they mess up a pass or and it'll become more of a two-on-two.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: And you they can really shoot from anywhere because it's so close, right?
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: So you gotta like stay on your toes, and it's a really fun drill.
- 19:02SPEAKER_09: I love this drill.
- 19:03SPEAKER_09: So it's a continuous, it's a continuous 2v2 with back check.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: And my um my coach is an old guy, so it might uh perfect time for like a pad stack kind of moment.
- 19:14SPEAKER_09: Oh no, pad stack, love it, love it, love it.
- 19:19SPEAKER_09: Are you as Martin Broder your coach?
- 19:21SPEAKER_09: That's a big man.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I wish.
- 19:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, pad stacking.
- 19:25SPEAKER_09: So we got a continuous 2v2, and what happens here if blue gets possession, they're passing to their forward to attack, and then the red team is now become the back checkers, and two new red guys come in to replace, correct?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, gotcha, and then they'll once it becomes a two-on-two, then the two red guys will be at the at the center ice line coming going back the other way.
- 19:46SPEAKER_09: Gotcha, because these two red guys, once they cough up the puck, they have to they have to they have to go back check, and then these two blue guys come out.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then we'll usually play about first to five, loser skate, and then we do like best of three usually.
- 19:59SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 20:01SPEAKER_06: I like this drill.
- 20:02SPEAKER_09: Evan, how many times did the defense have to skate yesterday at practice?
- 20:05SPEAKER_09: Not very often, right?
- 20:06SPEAKER_09: With first to five.
- 20:12SPEAKER_09: I love it, love it.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: Well, what do we want to call it?
- 20:14SPEAKER_09: We'll call this uh let's call this um lead with the back check.
- 20:19SPEAKER_09: How about desperado?
- 20:20SPEAKER_09: Desperado, because it is desperate.
- 20:22SPEAKER_09: We will call this one desperado.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: It's also great eagles.
- 20:25SPEAKER_09: It is a great eagle song, also, probably almost better done by uh Linda Rodstaff.
- 20:31SPEAKER_09: She was of course, she made the Eagles with that.
- 20:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she kind of was the she honored Eagle.
- 20:36SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 20:37SPEAKER_09: So let's take a break here.
- 20:38SPEAKER_09: Um, we're gonna have to go to a we actually have to go and do what's called a live read.
- 20:43SPEAKER_09: Um, you guys having fun so far?

- 23:20SPEAKER_06: We are back and we're doing drill draw, talking kids' favorite hockey drills, what makes them fun, why they like doing them.
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: And uh we had two that had to get off to practice.
- 23:33SPEAKER_06: Uh we brought another defenseman into the fold.
- 23:35SPEAKER_06: Owen Akres joined us.
- 23:37SPEAKER_09: It's a familiar last name.
- 23:39SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes, yes.
- 23:40SPEAKER_06: Uh so Owen's gonna have an opportunity to tell us what his favorite drill is and why from a defenseman's perspective.
- 23:47SPEAKER_06: But I think we're back up to goalies, aren't we?
- 23:50SPEAKER_09: Well, we just had a goalie.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 23:51SPEAKER_09: So why don't we switch over to uh a defenseman who's who's a little bit not quite far on his journey as Owen yet, but Evan, Evan, man, tell us a little bit about the summer so far, and let's talk about uh let's talk about you know Eagles hockey, let's talk about the drill you want to bring and some of the cool stuff that you're doing right now.
- 24:14SPEAKER_11: So last summer I basically played baseball like the whole summer.
- 24:20SPEAKER_11: I played roller hockey.
- 24:24SPEAKER_11: I'm about to go to California in like a week to see my sister because she lives in San Diego.
- 24:32SPEAKER_06: Oh, beautiful city.
- 24:34SPEAKER_06: Go to beautiful city.
- 24:36SPEAKER_06: Uh you ever been to San Diego before?
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: What do you like about San Diego besides uh uh seeing family?
- 24:45SPEAKER_11: The beach.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: The beach.
- 24:49SPEAKER_09: You see the big uh you see the big navy, uh the navy boats there, the big aircraft carriers and all that too.
- 24:55SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_09: Go to California.
- 24:58SPEAKER_09: That's that's a that's a song, man.
- 24:59SPEAKER_09: That's a great song.
- 25:00SPEAKER_09: That's a great, great song.
- 25:02SPEAKER_09: Um who do you play baseball for?
- 25:07SPEAKER_11: Orchard Farm.
- 25:08SPEAKER_11: They're actually named Eagles.
- 25:11SPEAKER_09: Orchard Farm Eagles, and so you can have all the same like swag, right?
- 25:16SPEAKER_09: So you're property of the Eagles and property of the Eagles.
- 25:21SPEAKER_09: Well, let's talk a little bit about your drill, buddy.
- 25:24SPEAKER_09: Walk us through it and tell us what uh tell us how to get this thing going, man.
- 25:28SPEAKER_11: Alright, so it's called uh zone entry.
- 25:35SPEAKER_11: All right, you probably know it.
- 25:38SPEAKER_09: I might.
- 25:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 25:42SPEAKER_11: So there's two people on the outside of the let's start with the nets.
- 25:47SPEAKER_09: Where are the nets?
- 25:48SPEAKER_11: Oh the nets are normally where they are nets.
- 25:52SPEAKER_09: Alright, cool.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: And we'll put some uh we'll put some we got two goalies, I'm assuming.
- 26:01unknown: Yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_09: Alright, let's give the goalies some love here.
- 26:04SPEAKER_09: Put a goalie here.
- 26:05SPEAKER_09: And goalies are on their own little teams, right?
- 26:09SPEAKER_11: Uh-huh.
- 26:11SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 26:12SPEAKER_09: Alright, where so what do we got?
- 26:14SPEAKER_09: Where where's the first players?
- 26:17SPEAKER_11: Two players are at the outside of the center circle.
- 26:22SPEAKER_09: Are these forwards or defense are these forwards or defensemen?
- 26:25SPEAKER_11: Forwards.
- 26:26SPEAKER_09: Alright, so you have F1.
- 26:28SPEAKER_09: Where's F2?
- 26:30SPEAKER_11: F2 is right beside him, but outside the circle.
- 26:34SPEAKER_09: Right there.
- 26:35SPEAKER_11: And then there's another forward on the other side.
- 26:39SPEAKER_09: F3.
- 26:40SPEAKER_11: F3 over there.
- 26:42SPEAKER_11: And then there's two defensemen, or yeah, there's a defenseman on every dot.
- 26:48unknown: Okay.
- 26:48SPEAKER_09: Now the defensemen on which which way are you guys gonna go to try and score?
- 26:52SPEAKER_09: Are you gonna try and score here to the left or try and score to the right?
- 26:56SPEAKER_11: To the left.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: To the left.
- 26:57SPEAKER_09: So these defensemen are not on your team, right?
- 27:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, those defensemens are playing defense.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: We're gonna use a little Eagles color here.
- 27:05SPEAKER_09: How about that?
- 27:06SPEAKER_09: A little D1.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: So D one here and one right here, right?
- 27:15unknown: Yep.
- 27:16SPEAKER_09: And then the other two defense are on your team, right?
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:20SPEAKER_09: Is there a back checker in this game?
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: Uh uh, and the other version.
- 27:29SPEAKER_09: Okay, we're not doing that version.
- 27:32SPEAKER_11: No.
- 27:32SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 27:33SPEAKER_09: So which where's the puck?
- 27:35SPEAKER_11: The puck is uh by the F3.
- 27:38SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 27:39SPEAKER_09: So what are we doing here?
- 27:41SPEAKER_11: The F2 skate around the top of the circle.
- 27:46SPEAKER_09: Like this?
- 27:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah, like that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_11: And then they grab the puck while F3 goes on the other way.
- 27:55SPEAKER_11: And then it's basically like a five on two.
- 28:00SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 28:01SPEAKER_09: Where does where where do the what do we uh where where do we have guys going here?
- 28:06SPEAKER_09: Let's let's draw this out.
- 28:07SPEAKER_09: So F1's gonna have the puck.
- 28:09SPEAKER_09: F3 is gonna be here.
- 28:11unknown: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_09: F1's gonna have the puck.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: We're gonna want him going a little wide.
- 28:19SPEAKER_09: Where's F2 gonna go?
- 28:21SPEAKER_11: With the puck.
- 28:23SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 28:25SPEAKER_09: So F1's got the puck, right?
- 28:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:28SPEAKER_11: So F2 goes straight to the middle to the net.
- 28:32SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 28:34SPEAKER_11: And then, yeah, F1 takes the outside.
- 28:38SPEAKER_11: F2 goes straight to the middle.
- 28:40SPEAKER_11: F3 stays high.
- 28:45SPEAKER_09: Love it.
- 28:48SPEAKER_09: And what do the defense do?
- 28:50SPEAKER_11: The defense just go up and kind of like float in the top of the circles area.
- 28:56SPEAKER_09: On this these guys here?
- 28:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 29:02SPEAKER_09: Let's get that going.
- 29:07SPEAKER_09: What about the defense and the other guys?
- 29:10SPEAKER_09: What are they doing?
- 29:11SPEAKER_09: The opposing team?
- 29:13SPEAKER_11: Um, they can't move until the the F2 or F1 touches the puck.
- 29:19SPEAKER_09: So as soon as F1 touches the puck, they can start to move.
- 29:23unknown: Yeah.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 29:25SPEAKER_09: So are they going towards the puck or are they dropping back?
- 29:28SPEAKER_09: What do you what's the what's the right thing to do?
- 29:32SPEAKER_11: Take the middle and let them go on the outside.
- 29:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah, like that.
- 29:38SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 29:39SPEAKER_11: And then this D2 goes to the middle to protect the net.
- 29:43SPEAKER_09: Right there, like that?
- 29:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 29:46SPEAKER_09: What's the key to this drill?
- 29:48SPEAKER_09: What's the big key if you're the if you're the forwards?
- 29:50SPEAKER_09: What's the big key?
- 29:53SPEAKER_11: Space and time.
- 29:55SPEAKER_11: Space and moving the puck.
- 29:57SPEAKER_09: Where do we want to get that puck originally?
- 29:59SPEAKER_09: We want to get that wide and deep and then drive that net, right?
- 30:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 30:05SPEAKER_11: Or if you have no space, you pass it back to the defenseman and then the defenseman.
- 30:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 30:13SPEAKER_06: Why is this uh drill fun for you?
- 30:17SPEAKER_11: For the defenseman, you can play defense and offense.
- 30:21unknown: Love it.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: Got it.
- 30:23SPEAKER_06: So you get a little bit the best of both worlds, right?
- 30:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:28SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 30:30SPEAKER_09: I love I love that.
- 30:31SPEAKER_09: Because you can play both play both defense.
- 30:34SPEAKER_09: Because once you enter the zone, is there a D1 or D2?
- 30:39SPEAKER_11: Once you enter the zone?
- 30:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, once you get the puck in the offensive zone, isn't everybody on offense?
- 30:45SPEAKER_11: No.
- 30:46SPEAKER_09: F1, F2, F3, F4, F5?
- 30:48SPEAKER_09: Isn't that what we talked about?
- 30:49SPEAKER_11: Yeah, they're all on offense, and then yeah, D1 and D2 are all are on defense, the yellow ones.
- 31:00unknown: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_06: And is it tough for the opposing defensemen to get back and protect the front of the net when they're waiting for the forwards to touch the puck before they can move?
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 31:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:16unknown: Nice.
- 31:16SPEAKER_11: Whenever, since we only had three defensemen yesterday at our practice, we did this drill, and a forward had to play defense, and he didn't know when they touched the puck he can move.
- 31:28SPEAKER_11: He thought if they go past the blue line, and then he can move.
- 31:35SPEAKER_09: But those forwards don't know how to play defense, do they?
- 31:40SPEAKER_06: Was he gassed at practice?
- 31:43SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 31:47SPEAKER_09: So we're gonna call this 5v2 zone entry.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:53SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 31:55SPEAKER_09: I like that.
- 31:56SPEAKER_09: And it sounds like you're learning a lot from it as well.
- 31:59SPEAKER_09: And the big thing about it is you're saying it's fun because as a defenseman, you can play, you can score goals and play defense.
- 32:07SPEAKER_09: So that's awesome.
- 32:09SPEAKER_09: What uh what day are you leaving for San Diego?
- 32:14SPEAKER_11: Uh Monday.
- 32:17SPEAKER_11: Monday.
- 32:18SPEAKER_09: Monday.
- 32:20SPEAKER_09: Very cool.
- 32:21SPEAKER_09: Very cool.
- 32:21SPEAKER_09: And how long's your sister been out in San Diego for?
- 32:25SPEAKER_11: Almost a year.
- 32:26SPEAKER_09: Is she older?
- 32:28SPEAKER_11: She's 24.
- 32:30SPEAKER_11: Cool.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: About to be 24.
- 32:33SPEAKER_09: Very cool.
- 32:34SPEAKER_06: Well, have a great trip.
- 32:35SPEAKER_06: I love the drill.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: And uh we might have to incorporate that.
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: I absolutely think we are gonna incorporate that.
- 32:43SPEAKER_09: And I think Gabe is gonna have a drill for us.
- 32:46SPEAKER_09: Now, Gabe, you know, I'm surprised Gabe's even talking to me right now after yesterday's practice because he was just getting so frustrated.
- 32:56SPEAKER_09: So talk a little bit about the summer thus so far, Gabe, and tell us a little bit about uh you know what you've done that's been really, really fun.
- 33:03SPEAKER_09: And so let's talk about the driller game you've got.
- 33:08SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: Um, well, during the summer it was a lot of hockey, basically.
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, what do you do when you're not what do you do when you're not playing hockey?
- 33:22SPEAKER_10: Uh uh, I probably I I go fishing sometimes.
- 33:31SPEAKER_06: Where you go?
- 33:32SPEAKER_06: Wait, where's your favorite fishing hole?
- 33:34SPEAKER_10: Uh Lake of the Woods.
- 33:36SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: And uh what kind of fish do you catch down there?
- 33:40SPEAKER_10: Like catfish, bass.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: And are you a good fisherman, Gabe?
- 33:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:47SPEAKER_06: Do you like lures or worms or a little bit of both?
- 33:52SPEAKER_10: Maybe switch it up if they're not biting either one.
- 33:57SPEAKER_06: I like it.
- 33:58SPEAKER_09: You you uh you you come prepared, it sounds like when's when's the best time of day to go fishing?
- 34:03SPEAKER_10: Either like really early in the morning or like six o'clock at night.
- 34:09SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 34:10SPEAKER_09: Dinner time.
- 34:10SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 34:11SPEAKER_09: The fish has got to eat too.
- 34:12SPEAKER_09: What's uh are you uh are you are you taking them off the hook and cleaning them yourself?
- 34:18SPEAKER_10: No, not that leg of the woods you have to throw them back.
- 34:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, throw them back.
- 34:22SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 34:23SPEAKER_09: Catch and release.
- 34:24SPEAKER_09: Are you taking them off the hook and throwing them back?
- 34:26SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 34:27SPEAKER_09: That's pro.
- 34:28SPEAKER_09: Night, that's that's really pro.
- 34:30SPEAKER_09: He's a goalie though.
- 34:31SPEAKER_10: Goalies, dog food.
- 34:33SPEAKER_10: We just throw it out there.
- 34:37SPEAKER_06: Dog food is dog food.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 34:40SPEAKER_10: It like summons them.
- 34:44SPEAKER_06: It's a fish whisper.
- 34:45SPEAKER_09: What's the what's the uh longest it's taking you to pull pull a bass in?
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: They like to fight.
- 34:52SPEAKER_10: Uh probably like forty-five seconds.
- 35:01SPEAKER_10: They're not very big there, so it's not that hard.
- 35:08SPEAKER_06: Well, Gabe, tell us if you get a favorite.
- 35:11SPEAKER_10: Oh, uh oh, probably like three feet.
- 35:22SPEAKER_10: Or no, not well, yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 35:27SPEAKER_09: That's a big bass.
- 35:28SPEAKER_09: That is a big bass.
- 35:29SPEAKER_09: That's a big bass.
- 35:30SPEAKER_09: That'd be a big hey, you get the way you know why they're so big because you gotta keep throwing them back.
- 35:34SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 35:35SPEAKER_09: All we do is keep growing.
- 35:36SPEAKER_06: You throw them back and say, go get your grain.
- 35:38SPEAKER_10: My dog food really chunks them up.
- 35:44SPEAKER_06: I love this.
- 35:45SPEAKER_06: Next time we're on the when I go out fishing, I'm taking dog food with me, just because uh Gabe said that.
- 35:49SPEAKER_06: That's fantastic.
- 35:51SPEAKER_09: I'm going fishing this week, so we can say I'm taking it.
- 35:54SPEAKER_09: Well, Gabe, set the scene for us here, buddy.
- 35:57SPEAKER_09: What's the what's the gamer drill we're gonna draw up here for uh for the goal?
- 36:01SPEAKER_10: It's called the three shot drill.
- 36:04SPEAKER_09: Oh all right.
- 36:06SPEAKER_09: Set up set the scene.
- 36:08SPEAKER_09: Where do the nets go?
- 36:09SPEAKER_10: Well, the nets are just regular, all right.
- 36:14SPEAKER_10: And it's kind of like a team drill, so like you're not really against well, you kind of well the drill can be played with defense and without.
- 36:28SPEAKER_10: I know Evan would want defense from that.
- 36:34SPEAKER_09: All right, we got goalies in both nets.
- 36:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, all right.
- 36:37SPEAKER_09: What what what colors should the goalies be?
- 36:39SPEAKER_09: What do you want to what do you want the goalies to be?
- 36:42SPEAKER_10: Uh golden blue, gold and blue, all right.
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: So we'll put gold down on this end, and we'll put blue on the other end.
- 36:51SPEAKER_09: All right, set the scene.
- 36:52SPEAKER_09: Where where are we putting players?
- 36:54SPEAKER_10: So, like top left, everybody just lines up there.
- 36:59SPEAKER_09: Uh top left over here, yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_09: All right, and what color are the players?
- 37:05SPEAKER_10: Uh, just blue, I guess.
- 37:08SPEAKER_09: All right, right in here.
- 37:09SPEAKER_10: There are two defense up top.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: So these guys, is this where they line up?
- 37:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:16SPEAKER_09: Okay, they're in line, and then you put two defense.
- 37:18SPEAKER_09: We made the defense gold.
- 37:20SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 37:21SPEAKER_09: All right, where'd the defense go?
- 37:24SPEAKER_10: Just on the points.
- 37:27SPEAKER_09: Uh the boards or at this dots?
- 37:30SPEAKER_10: Dots.
- 37:31SPEAKER_09: Both sides?
- 37:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:34SPEAKER_09: Cool.
- 37:34SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 37:35SPEAKER_10: And then the pucks are by the forwards.
- 37:39SPEAKER_09: Down here.
- 37:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:41SPEAKER_09: Are there okay?
- 37:42SPEAKER_09: So what are we doing here?
- 37:44SPEAKER_09: What's next?
- 37:44SPEAKER_09: What's first?
- 37:45SPEAKER_10: So the coach will blow the whistle, like, so he'll go like basically like every like two seconds.
- 37:58SPEAKER_10: So every whistle, the first forward will go around like like and go halfway through the circle and take a shot on the goalie at the hash marks, or like we set the hash marks.
- 38:15SPEAKER_09: Right here.
- 38:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_09: So there's a shot there.
- 38:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:21SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 38:22SPEAKER_10: And then it'll just happen, and then they'll do that two other times.
- 38:29SPEAKER_09: Where do they get the next?
- 38:30SPEAKER_09: Is it another another another player?
- 38:34SPEAKER_10: Well, if once you take a shot, you go in front of the net, kind of like screening the goalie.
- 38:41SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 38:43SPEAKER_10: And then once everybody's taking the shot, their shots, um, the next forward in line will pass a puck up to the defense.
- 38:55unknown: Okay.
- 38:56SPEAKER_10: And then then they'll they'll go D to D and then take a shot on goal.
- 39:01SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 39:02SPEAKER_09: Like it.
- 39:03SPEAKER_09: So he's gonna pass this D here, and he's gonna go D to D like this.
- 39:09SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 39:10SPEAKER_09: And this defenseman's gonna shoot.
- 39:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_09: Got it.
- 39:16SPEAKER_09: So there's no, and then you've got a forward who's trying to tip the puck.
- 39:21SPEAKER_10: Well, three forwards.
- 39:25SPEAKER_09: Oh, so three forwards are coming out of the corner at different levels, right?
- 39:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, they're all going at like the same point.
- 39:35SPEAKER_09: I see.
- 39:35SPEAKER_09: Hang on, let's read let's read regroup here.
- 39:39SPEAKER_09: Let's regroup here.
- 39:42SPEAKER_09: All right, so we've got this first forward, he's coming close right here.
- 39:51SPEAKER_09: The second forward's going kind of mid.
- 39:54SPEAKER_09: Hang on, let's see.
- 39:55SPEAKER_09: He's mid, and then this third forward's coming high, and they're each gonna take a shot.
- 40:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah, everybody's gonna take a shot, and once they're done taking a shot, they get in front of the net for the next guy to shoot like a screenshot.
- 40:11SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 40:12SPEAKER_09: So eventually you're gonna have three guys in front of the net for the goalie to contend with.
- 40:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, gotcha.
- 40:18SPEAKER_09: This is brutal for a goalie.
- 40:20SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, this is a lot of action.
- 40:22SPEAKER_09: So shot, shot, and shot.
- 40:31SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 40:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and then the next forward, then pass it up to the defense.
- 40:37SPEAKER_09: And you end up having three guys in front of the net here, like this.
- 40:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:43SPEAKER_09: Alright, and then this forward's gonna we're gonna have a pass from the fourth guy in line's gonna pass to the defense.
- 40:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and then they'll go D to D, and then he'll take a shot.
- 40:55SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 40:59SPEAKER_09: And then they can get rebounds, and and this is basically this is not a very fun.
- 41:04SPEAKER_09: I'm surprised the goalie likes this drill.
- 41:06SPEAKER_09: It's just constant action, isn't it?
- 41:09SPEAKER_10: Well, it's not very hard.
- 41:12SPEAKER_09: Oh, Evan, you hear that?
- 41:14SPEAKER_09: He says it's not very hard.
- 41:15SPEAKER_09: I guess you guys aren't shooting hard enough on no well.
- 41:19SPEAKER_10: Evan maybe might he might score like one or two ever on this drill, but like so.
- 41:32SPEAKER_06: Is there another uh is there another step in the drill beyond the routine to defense?
- 41:37SPEAKER_10: The same guy will pass it, like make a far pass to the defense, like the other defense will get the puck.
- 41:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that same forward, yeah, and then they'll go D to D, and then that guy will shoot.
- 41:51SPEAKER_09: Got it, gotcha.
- 41:52SPEAKER_09: So there's there's a total of five shots in this drill.
- 42:00SPEAKER_09: Well, three shots out of the corner, and then each of the defensemen gets a shot, right?
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 42:07SPEAKER_09: That's like that's that's a lot of pucks, man.
- 42:10SPEAKER_09: That's a lot, and do they come from the other side too?
- 42:13SPEAKER_10: Uh no, no, just from the one side, and then he'll chip it out to the forwards, and then it'll be like uh three on two the other way.
- 42:27SPEAKER_06: I love that.
- 42:28SPEAKER_06: I love that.
- 42:29SPEAKER_06: So that's the last is that the last uh step in the drill?
- 42:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so the coach is right over here with some pucks, let's call it, and he's gonna chip it up to the forwards and they and they go to a three on two, yeah.
- 42:41SPEAKER_09: The other way.
- 42:42SPEAKER_10: Oh and then basically they just line up on the other side when you're done, and then it just happens happens over there, yeah.
- 42:52SPEAKER_09: Oh, I love it.
- 42:53SPEAKER_09: We're running this drill, coach.
- 42:54SPEAKER_06: This is a great drill.
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: So, Evan, uh, why is this drill fun for you?
- 43:05SPEAKER_11: Because you know, I just get to like nip one gabe.
- 43:17SPEAKER_06: You get a lot of action, and what's it like having three forwards right in your grill right in your face?
- 43:25SPEAKER_06: How do you do you like that?
- 43:27SPEAKER_10: Is it making well I kind of like to like push them out of the way?
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_06: You be a little Tim Taylor.
- 43:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:38SPEAKER_09: Do you know who Tim Taylor is?
- 43:40SPEAKER_09: No, he was a goalie who was for the Boston Bruins the last time they won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
- 43:49SPEAKER_09: So before you were born, yeah.
- 43:51SPEAKER_06: Evan, watch some Tim Taylor uh hockey videos on YouTube.
- 43:55SPEAKER_06: I think you're gonna like them a lot.
- 43:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he was he was he was mean, he was definitely.
- 44:00SPEAKER_09: He was an interesting, interesting guy.
- 44:02SPEAKER_09: He was a good goalie, really good goalie.
- 44:04SPEAKER_06: But what I don't want to put words in Evan's mouth.
- 44:06SPEAKER_06: Evan, I guess what I'm hearing you say is there's a lot going on in this drill.
- 44:10SPEAKER_06: It's right in front in front of you.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: And that then makes it fun for you.
- 44:14SPEAKER_06: Is that right?
- 44:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 44:17SPEAKER_11: And then when the forwards come out and break out, that's when you get to like start playing defense.
- 44:31SPEAKER_09: Cool.
- 44:33SPEAKER_09: So we've got three shot to three v2 all in one drill.
- 44:41SPEAKER_09: I love it, man.
- 44:42SPEAKER_09: It's a great uh that's a great drill.
- 44:43SPEAKER_06: That's a great, great drill.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: I love the last little wrinkle of going all the way on the hundred percent.
- 44:51SPEAKER_09: That's why these kids are so great.
- 44:54SPEAKER_06: Love your drill.
- 44:55SPEAKER_09: And he's a great fisherman, too.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: Well, and do you want to coin it?
- 44:57SPEAKER_06: You want to uh call it Evans Chaos or Evans something?
- 45:02SPEAKER_09: Gabe's Gabe uh what do you want to call it, Gabe?
- 45:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, sorry, Gabe, not Evan.
- 45:10SPEAKER_11: Gabe's frozen.
- 45:12SPEAKER_06: Gabe is frozen.
- 45:13SPEAKER_06: Gabe's frozen.
- 45:14SPEAKER_09: Well, Gabe, that was Gabe, we're gonna call it the drill.
- 45:18SPEAKER_09: You're back, buddy.
- 45:19SPEAKER_09: We see ya.
- 45:20SPEAKER_09: We got ya.
- 45:23SPEAKER_09: Gabe, what do you want to call the drill?
- 45:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah, just three shots.
- 45:27SPEAKER_10: Just three shot.
- 45:29SPEAKER_09: Just three shot.
- 45:30SPEAKER_09: I love it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 45:31SPEAKER_09: Gabe's three shots.
- 45:32SPEAKER_09: Gabe's three shot.
- 45:34SPEAKER_11: Not Evan's chaos.
- 45:37SPEAKER_11: Sorry.
- 45:39SPEAKER_06: That was on me.
- 45:40SPEAKER_09: Oh, I love it.
- 45:41SPEAKER_06: But I love the banner.
- 45:42SPEAKER_09: I love it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_09: Well, we've got uh we've got a special guest here from the the ranks of the uh the 15U Afton American Central States team.
- 45:55SPEAKER_09: Alex.
- 45:56SPEAKER_09: No, this is Owen Acry.
- 45:57SPEAKER_09: He's a big defenseman.
- 45:58SPEAKER_09: He's a big defenseman, Evan.
- 46:00SPEAKER_09: Defenseman like you who's who's coming over to Afton here.
- 46:03SPEAKER_09: Owen, what's going on, bud?
- 46:05SPEAKER_05: Nothing much.
- 46:07SPEAKER_09: Just had a pretty awesome trip that you just got back from.
- 46:10SPEAKER_09: You want to tell us a little bit about it?
- 46:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we went to Chile and Peru, saw Machu Picchu.
- 46:16SPEAKER_05: It was definitely very cool.
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: Probably the best place I've ever been.
- 46:21SPEAKER_05: That's awesome.
- 46:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 46:23SPEAKER_09: What uh now it's winter down there right now, correct?
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it is.
- 46:28SPEAKER_09: Was that kind of weird with like the weather in in June and July being cold?
- 46:34SPEAKER_05: Definitely.
- 46:35SPEAKER_05: It was definitely different than America.
- 46:38SPEAKER_09: Is is there hockey anywhere near where you were in Chile?
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: There wasn't.
- 46:46SPEAKER_09: What was the what was the coolest thing you ate?
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Um, probably the guinea pig or alpaca.
- 46:57SPEAKER_05: Evan, what do you think about eating guinea pig, man?
- 47:01SPEAKER_11: That's just cruel, bro.
- 47:08SPEAKER_09: Well, it's not like you named it though, right?
- 47:10SPEAKER_09: No, you didn't name the guinea pig.
- 47:13SPEAKER_09: No.
- 47:16SPEAKER_09: So we're back in the swing of things.
- 47:17SPEAKER_09: You know, how many how how often are you skating with your team uh in each week?
- 47:22SPEAKER_09: And what's uh any other big plans before uh the season in school gets started?
- 47:27SPEAKER_05: I'm about to start skating with my team.
- 47:30SPEAKER_05: I think our first practice is this Thursday.
- 47:33SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 47:35SPEAKER_05: Um what were you gonna say?
- 47:38SPEAKER_09: No, man.
- 47:39SPEAKER_09: I'm just I'm I'm excited, man.
- 47:41SPEAKER_09: You're over with Afton.
- 47:42SPEAKER_09: You know, you're playing at the at your dad's old stomping grounds.
- 47:45SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 47:45SPEAKER_09: You know, that's pretty awesome.
- 47:47SPEAKER_09: So Evan, Evan and Gabe, man, this is this is the route you want to go.
- 47:52SPEAKER_09: He's our he's a 15U Afton American.
- 47:54SPEAKER_09: You guys are Eagles.
- 47:56SPEAKER_06: So well, and I want to hear what's fun for Owen.
- 47:59SPEAKER_06: Owen, what's uh what fun drill uh are you gonna share with our listeners today?
- 48:06SPEAKER_06: Uh walk us through it and tell us why it's fun for you.
- 48:11SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna pick four on two, four on two.
- 48:14SPEAKER_05: All right, let's draw it up here, man.
- 48:17SPEAKER_05: So it's only in one zone.
- 48:20SPEAKER_05: Okay, you're gonna draw an imaginary line through the middle of the ice.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: Right like this?
- 48:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_09: Is that good?
- 48:32SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 48:33SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: And then at the top of the circle, draw a line across from board to board.
- 48:42SPEAKER_09: Top of the circle.
- 48:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:44SPEAKER_09: Like that?
- 48:46SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 48:47SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 48:48SPEAKER_05: Then under both of the circles, put a net.
- 48:52SPEAKER_09: Where are the nets going?
- 48:53SPEAKER_09: Which way are they facing?
- 48:55SPEAKER_05: They're facing up the ice.
- 48:58SPEAKER_09: Okay, so they're on the red line.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but there's two on or there's one under each circle.
- 49:05SPEAKER_09: So like right here?
- 49:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:07SPEAKER_09: And then right here.
- 49:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:09SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:11SPEAKER_05: And then there would be four offensemen in one of the circle on one team.
- 49:21SPEAKER_09: So let's say we want blue over here, blue, four blue forwards.
- 49:26SPEAKER_09: Okay, like this.
- 49:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:29SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:30SPEAKER_05: And then there would be two blue defensemen on the other side.
- 49:35SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 49:36SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:37SPEAKER_09: And are they they are they in the circle over here?
- 49:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: And then I'm saying we're gonna go red since you're after the exact opposite.
- 49:49SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 49:50SPEAKER_09: So here we go here, and then we'll get some forwards.
- 49:57SPEAKER_09: And we've got a blue goalie with a blue defense and a red goalie with the red defense.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:04SPEAKER_09: It's funny how that works.
- 50:09SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna move this net just a little bit.
- 50:14SPEAKER_09: How's that?
- 50:15SPEAKER_09: Is that good?
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_09: And then a blue goalie over here.
- 50:20SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 50:21SPEAKER_09: Where are pucks coming into play?
- 50:24SPEAKER_05: There's gonna be pucks at uh behind the line at the top of each circle with a coach also at the top of each circle.
- 50:32SPEAKER_09: So behind this imaginary line?
- 50:34SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 50:35SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 50:37SPEAKER_09: So put a coach right here.
- 50:39SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 50:40SPEAKER_09: Put a coach right here.
- 50:41SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 50:42SPEAKER_09: And piles of two piles of pucks.
- 50:44SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 50:45SPEAKER_05: Love it.
- 50:46SPEAKER_09: Alright, so what's going on?
- 50:48SPEAKER_05: Then at the whistle, both coaches will pass a puck to the offense.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: Then it's race to score.
- 50:59SPEAKER_05: Whoever scores first gets a point.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: You can race to whatever 10, 5, 2, 3.
- 51:07SPEAKER_05: Doesn't matter.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: You can make it where if it's off a pass or if it's a 1T, you can get two points.
- 51:16SPEAKER_05: And then but if the defense get the puck, they can either shoot it out, and then the coach will throw in another puck to the offense, or the D can choose to keep it and try and time waste inside the circle.
- 51:32SPEAKER_09: Time waste inside the circle so that they're play so their teammates on the other side can score.
- 51:37SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 51:38SPEAKER_09: I love this.
- 51:39SPEAKER_09: I love this drill.
- 51:40SPEAKER_09: I love this drill.
- 51:42SPEAKER_05: And anyone can move anywhere within their imaginary square.
- 51:46SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 51:47SPEAKER_09: You just start in the circle.
- 51:48SPEAKER_09: Everybody starts off in the circle.
- 51:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 51:50SPEAKER_09: Um, can you go all the way to the boards, or is the or is the red line the barrier?
- 51:55SPEAKER_09: You can go anywhere.
- 51:56SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 51:56SPEAKER_09: You just can't go above this, you just can't go above the or across the imaginary, the royal road there.
- 52:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:05SPEAKER_09: Oh, I love this.
- 52:06SPEAKER_09: So this is this is what do we call this?
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: Four on two, four on two, race to score.
- 52:19SPEAKER_05: Love it.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: And Owen, why is this fun for you?
- 52:22SPEAKER_05: It's fun for me because it's really easy just to do.
- 52:26SPEAKER_05: It's definitely fun competition with all your teammates and good to talk some talk some crap and score on the goalies, even if you're a defenseman.
- 52:37SPEAKER_05: So you can play forward and defense.
- 52:39SPEAKER_09: Very cool.
- 52:40SPEAKER_09: That's that's that's a reoccurring theme.
- 52:42SPEAKER_09: Reoccurring theme for defensemen.
- 52:44SPEAKER_09: They like to score the news flash, they like to carry the fucking score.
- 52:47SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 52:48SPEAKER_09: Evan and Gabe, what do you guys think of this game?
- 52:51SPEAKER_10: Uh well, it's close.
- 52:54SPEAKER_10: And so you get to make a lot of diving saves as a goalie.
- 53:01SPEAKER_09: Can the goalies uh uh Owen, do the goalies have to play the puck right away, or can they like push it around, you know, push it to the side, or can they clear it out?
- 53:08SPEAKER_05: No, if if it goes to the goalie and he covers it, it's a new puck immediately.
- 53:13SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 53:14SPEAKER_09: Okay, that's a good so make the save and and you know live live to save another day.
- 53:20SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 53:20SPEAKER_09: Okay, excellent, man.
- 53:22SPEAKER_09: I love this.
- 53:23SPEAKER_09: This is another great one.
- 53:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we should just, you know what, for every practice, we should just you know call up the players and say, drop the practice.
- 53:30SPEAKER_09: Draw it, draw the practice plan up.
- 53:32SPEAKER_09: What do you guys think?
- 53:33SPEAKER_09: I mean, how off how awesome would it be if your coach said, Hey, come to the come to the practice, you guys make the play, you guys make the plan.
- 53:41SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna go on mute, bud.
- 53:42SPEAKER_09: Oh, I know.
- 53:43SPEAKER_09: No, no mountains, no backscat.
- 53:46SPEAKER_09: Although although Simon's Simon Leeds uh back check game is a sneaky backstage.
- 53:52SPEAKER_09: It is, it is a sneaky backstage, and Gabe's three puck is a is three shots a sneaky sneaky backskate as well.
- 53:58SPEAKER_09: Absolutely, yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_09: So, guys, what do you um what are you thinking here as the summer winds down?
- 54:04SPEAKER_09: You're getting ready for what are you looking most forward to in the season?
- 54:07SPEAKER_09: Evan, what are you looking most forward to this season?
- 54:11SPEAKER_11: Um playing with my friends.
- 54:15SPEAKER_09: It's the best thing about hockey, isn't it?
- 54:19SPEAKER_09: Gabe, what about you, bud?
- 54:21SPEAKER_10: Uh saving pox.
- 54:25SPEAKER_09: No goals.
- 54:26SPEAKER_09: No goal.
- 54:29SPEAKER_09: Oh, and you got a big season here.
- 54:30SPEAKER_09: You're you're you're moving to uh a new squad and you you're you're stepping into high school.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: Talk a little bit about that, man.
- 54:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm definitely excited to start the new season with Afton.
- 54:41SPEAKER_05: It'll be a change for sure.
- 54:43SPEAKER_05: And I'm excited to play for Ledou.
- 54:46SPEAKER_05: It'll be fun.
- 54:47SPEAKER_09: It's gonna be a blast, man.
- 54:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:49SPEAKER_06: Well, I love it.
- 54:50SPEAKER_06: I appreciate you guys coming on and sharing uh uh the the drills that are fun for you, coaches or thieves.
- 54:59SPEAKER_06: Uh take them, incorporate them into your practice plan, share them with your teams uh this season.
- 55:05SPEAKER_06: But guys, thanks so much for joining us on the show and sharing what's fun uh and fun drills with our listeners.
- 55:12SPEAKER_09: Keep the fun going, guys.
- 55:13SPEAKER_09: Thank you guys so much, and we'll see all of you at practice throughout the next uh couple months, man.
- 55:18SPEAKER_09: Thanks, guys.
- 55:18SPEAKER_09: Really appreciate it.
- 55:19SPEAKER_09: Thank you for having us.
- 55:20SPEAKER_09: Go Eagles, go aften, go Americans, go go Rams.
- 55:26SPEAKER_09: All right, see you guys.
- 55:32SPEAKER_06: I I I like sneaky bag skate drills.
- 55:36SPEAKER_06: I you know, two of those are are sneaky bagscape drills.
- 55:40SPEAKER_06: So we'll we'll see if any of our kids are watching this in time for our next practice.
- 55:46SPEAKER_09: They may change, they may change their uh opinion about what's fun.
- 55:51SPEAKER_09: No, just uh I love hearing the banter.
- 55:54SPEAKER_09: I love I love when you ask that question, why do you like this so much?
- 55:58SPEAKER_09: And you know, Evan's like right away, well, as a defenseman, I get to score.
- 56:02SPEAKER_09: And then Owen, not even on the wasn't even on the call before, comes right out and was like, go, because the defense gets to score.
- 56:09SPEAKER_09: I thought that that was so cool.
- 56:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Grant, what'd you learn, buddy?
- 56:12SPEAKER_09: I know I know you learned something.
- 56:14SPEAKER_07: I did.
- 56:14SPEAKER_07: I like the uh I like those the chaotic ones.
- 56:19SPEAKER_07: Uh they reminded me of my favorite drills in like basketball, the 2v1, then you go to 3v2, like the quick, fast-paced ones, I think would be the most enjoyable.
- 56:30SPEAKER_06: I I Gabe was talking about stacking his pads.
- 56:33SPEAKER_06: Does he have flair?
- 56:34SPEAKER_06: Does it have some goalies?
- 56:36SPEAKER_09: So I love this kid.
- 56:37SPEAKER_09: I'm he I had a chance to get to know him throughout the spring a little bit, and he's one of those goalies who he he's not joking.
- 56:44SPEAKER_09: He he is like he doesn't want that puck near him.
- 56:48SPEAKER_09: And if you're by him, he's gonna give you a little bit of a dirty look and a little bit, a little bit of a little bit of the lumber.
- 56:54SPEAKER_06: Love it.
- 56:54SPEAKER_09: But we were we were doing this drill where there was a set part of part of the the drill, the goalie on the opposite end wasn't in the play, right?
- 57:03SPEAKER_09: And it wasn't gonna come back his way.
- 57:04SPEAKER_09: It was this you know, this progression, and so I'm looking over at him and he's just watching.
- 57:09SPEAKER_09: I'm like, I'm gonna go mess around with him.
- 57:11SPEAKER_09: So I'm just kind of skating by there.
- 57:13SPEAKER_09: He doesn't even notice I have a puck on my stick, and I just kind of slide it through his pads, and he looks up like he's like ready to rip my head off.
- 57:20SPEAKER_09: He's like, You can't do that.
- 57:22SPEAKER_09: And so we do that a couple more times, and he was he was he started making fun of my helmet.
- 57:27SPEAKER_06: He's he's watching Tim Thomas videos, absolutely.
- 57:30SPEAKER_09: So well, well, Grant man, give us a little world world cup update.
- 57:34SPEAKER_09: Big, big, big game today.
- 57:37SPEAKER_07: Well, there was a big game today, which I guess was two days ago.
- 57:41SPEAKER_07: Spain beat France.
- 57:43SPEAKER_07: I think by the time people are listening to this, I think England will have beaten the Argentina as well.
- 57:51SPEAKER_07: I that's what I think.
- 57:53SPEAKER_07: By the time you listen on Thursday, I think it'll be England-Spain, and I think England's gonna do it.
- 57:59SPEAKER_09: I think it's like that's like the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup, man.
- 58:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's the year of droughts ending.
- 58:08SPEAKER_07: Uh, Indiana football won, drought ended, hurricanes happened.
- 58:12SPEAKER_09: Was that really a drought?
- 58:13SPEAKER_09: It's not a drought if you've never won before.
- 58:16SPEAKER_07: Sorry, never won.
- 58:17SPEAKER_07: Um, next drought ended.
- 58:19SPEAKER_07: That's absolutely a drought.
- 58:21SPEAKER_07: I believe the hurricanes were in a bit of a drought as well.
- 58:24SPEAKER_07: Not not to the likes of the 20 years, 20 years, 20 years.
- 58:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'll give you that.
- 58:28SPEAKER_09: Plus, they'd gone, they'd been so close to not even you know making the finals the last four years.
- 58:35SPEAKER_09: Um, actually, yeah.
- 58:36SPEAKER_09: So you know what?
- 58:38SPEAKER_09: That's why he's the producer.
- 58:39SPEAKER_09: He comes up with great instances.
- 58:40SPEAKER_07: Michigan basketball drought ended.
- 58:43SPEAKER_07: Absolute drought, absolute drought for sure.
- 58:46SPEAKER_07: There you go, right there.
- 58:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we're not gonna revisit, we're not gonna revisit the drought that we talked about last week.
- 58:53SPEAKER_06: Well, I do think we should uh talk about Grant on skates because uh pretty soon we'll have uh school starting, kids going.
- 59:01SPEAKER_06: So I think like these next two, three weeks, Grant is gonna be your window of opportunity to get out on the ice and uh uh and and see if you can uh stand and move.
- 59:12SPEAKER_06: True story.
- 59:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think so.
- 59:15SPEAKER_07: I I think it has to happen.
- 59:16SPEAKER_09: What about this Friday?
- 59:19unknown: This Friday.
- 59:20SPEAKER_07: There's potential behind this Friday.
- 59:22SPEAKER_06: What's do you have gear?
- 59:25SPEAKER_06: No, we can we can cobble together some more.
- 59:27SPEAKER_06: We can cobble together.
- 59:28SPEAKER_07: I have an old stick that I used to uh play street hockey with, but that thing's that's a youth stick.
- 59:34SPEAKER_09: Well, the good news is you already know what the drills are gonna be.
- 59:38SPEAKER_07: Yeah, uh, you're already ahead of the game.
- 59:41SPEAKER_07: Can I can I skate with the 11-year-old so I can knock them down?
- 59:44SPEAKER_07: Dude, those 11-year-olds will tear you up.
- 59:49SPEAKER_07: They'll still beat me.
- 59:50SPEAKER_07: They're not gonna be able to knock me down.
- 59:52SPEAKER_09: They're not gonna try and knock you down, they're just gonna they're just gonna skate around you.
- 59:56SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna give a lot of slashing calls.
- 59:58SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 59:59SPEAKER_09: Well, guess what?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_09: Um, we will definitely uh I can't wait to see that.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_09: I can't wait to see that.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we uh we practice throughout the season at all American Fenton or Afton.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_09: So we'll see.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_09: Tim Bayliss, who was on a couple months ago as our goalie, he and I are coaching together there.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_09: So um it's a good time.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_09: Those kids are those kids are awesome.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_09: I I no matter how long the day is, when I go and walk into that rink and I see those kids, it's a big old smile on my face.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_09: So thank you to those kids for uh yeah putting up with me.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_06: So well, I love it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_06: We uh we've talked about doing a uh what's your favorite drill, and we've kind of morphed it into a whole show.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_06: But uh kudos to drift hockey, big thanks to that team over there for helping us.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_09: Uh we gotta give a little gotta give a little love to drift.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_09: We you know, we forgot to throw them on.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_09: Let's put a little drift on.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_09: Hang on, let's get a little, you know.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_06: They definitely make drill drawing easy.

- 1:01:02SPEAKER_09: Is that the where is my oh there it is right here?
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_07: There's the drift.

- 1:01:06SPEAKER_07: All right, you're getting all you know, you have a producer for a reason here.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_09: Well, he was asleep at the wheel.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_09: He was asleep at the wheel.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_09: Oh, you were doesn't even know what organ doesn't even know what organ sound to play.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_09: Thank you, our friends.

- 1:01:37SPEAKER_09: All right, bring us back on.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah, now we're getting a little slappy.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_09: It's the summer, it's slappy, it's silly season, slappy time.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_07: What did you do?
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_07: What is this black screen?
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_07: You oh, Jared, what is happening?
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_07: There you go.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_09: I don't know, it fixed itself.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_07: You touched a lot of buttons.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_07: Too many buttons, too many buttons, too many buttons.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_07: Too many buttons on the mic.
