- 0:00Speaker 1: I was in Moab, which which is a place I
- 0:04Speaker 1: like quite a bit there, and it's still has a
- 0:10Speaker 1: it's still a small town. I mean, it's just field
- 0:13Speaker 1: small and it's in a nice way. But there are
- 0:16Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of people, you know, trying
- 0:19Speaker 1: to change that. There's there's, for instance, there's a there
- 0:25Speaker 1: they're planning. There's a plan afoot to build a new
- 0:29Speaker 1: city right by the Colorado River, a different city called
- 0:33Speaker 1: Echo Canyon. Yeah, and I mean it would be right
- 0:36Speaker 1: on the Colorado. It's it was called Cane Springs now
- 0:42Speaker 1: it's been rebranded Echo Canyon. It includes plans for four
- 0:46Speaker 1: hundred and thirty housing units, one hundred and two room hotel,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and commercial space. And they want it to be its
- 0:52Speaker 1: own city, not part of Boab. It'll be part of
- 0:55Speaker 1: and it's it's kind of down the the Cane Creek
- 0:58Speaker 1: Road goes down on the Colorado and it's I mean,
- 1:02Speaker 1: if they're building, Moab needs affordable housing.
- 1:05Speaker 2: If they're building, that's.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Not what it is. No, it's it's uh, it will
- 1:11Speaker 1: be well. There are a lot of people opposed to
- 1:14Speaker 1: it in Moab, and I hopefully it won't. I don't
- 1:17Speaker 1: know whom has the final decision probably what is it
- 1:19Speaker 1: Grand County. I think that's county. It's in that that's
- 1:23Speaker 1: gonna be who has the final say on all of it.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But they're they're a big sign. So for instance, we
- 1:31Speaker 1: went out to breakfast the yesterday morning before we left
- 1:35Speaker 1: Moab at a place called Cactus Jacks and there's a
- 1:39Speaker 1: big reader sign out in front of Cactus Jacks that says,
- 1:43Speaker 1: tell you tell your senator that our public lands aren't
- 1:45Speaker 1: for sale.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Well that was that was a big, beautiful bill stuff.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, they're they're really most I think most businesses down there,
- 1:55Speaker 1: most business owners are pretty opposed to, you know, giving up.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Federal lands to private that thing that we warned them
- 2:05Speaker 3: about before the election.
- 2:07Speaker 1: But I was sitting, I was at eating breakfast at
- 2:10Speaker 1: Cactus Jackson. Uh, I guess the the what the waitress
- 2:16Speaker 1: a waitress came over the table. I was in the restroom,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but came over where my wife and kid were and said, uh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: the owner here, the manager here, he wants to know
- 2:24Speaker 1: is that your husband? Yeah? I said, is he that
- 2:28Speaker 1: guy on the radio in Salt Lake? And is that
- 2:30Speaker 1: bill already here? He said, My my, my kid was
- 2:34Speaker 1: going to buy a sticker, a cactus Jack sticker. You
- 2:36Speaker 1: can have one, just have it. It's on the house.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So there are perks, you know, being my being my child,
- 2:44Speaker 1: you get a free sticker. Yeah, a free sticker from
- 2:46Speaker 1: you have to.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Put up with you being dad, but you get a
- 2:48Speaker 2: stick that's true.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But had it really better?
- 2:51Speaker 4: You better report this to accounting.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Oh that's right. Uh yeah, it's a really nice sticker too.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But anyway, that had a nice time there. There's a
- 3:00Speaker 1: Cactus Jacks was good.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Were you airbnbing or do you okay?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Airbnb and that so we did it was I
- 3:08Speaker 1: went down there because my wife goes down there once
- 3:10Speaker 1: a year and they have a roller derby tournament there
- 3:13Speaker 1: and it's out at the fairgrounds. And the Grand County
- 3:17Speaker 1: really does a nice job with setting things up for
- 3:20Speaker 1: the roller derby people and just really being accommodating. And
- 3:24Speaker 1: there was a county fair going on there, and there
- 3:26Speaker 1: was all kinds of you know, stuff for kids to do,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and there was there was a competing, there was a
- 3:31Speaker 1: country music concert going on, and there was you know,
- 3:34Speaker 1: there was there was some sort of rodeoing and horseshoe
- 3:37Speaker 1: horse showing and all of that kind of stuff and
- 3:39Speaker 1: roller derby, so it all, you know, it all kind
- 3:41Speaker 1: of fits together, and Grand County does a really nice job.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And then the next day, the tradition is that all
- 3:46Speaker 1: the roller derby people, the skaters and their husbands and
- 3:51Speaker 1: the officials and I we we go up the up
- 3:54Speaker 1: the canyon, up the up past the Red Rocks Ranch
- 3:57Speaker 1: where we stayed that time. We go up up there
- 4:00Speaker 1: and we with rafts and paddle boards and we float
- 4:05Speaker 1: down the river for about probably two hours something like that,
- 4:08Speaker 1: two and a half three hours. And uh, there's like
- 4:11Speaker 1: thirty of us floating down the car. That stretch of
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Colorado is just real slow and real placid, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and it's just kind of a nice time out in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the sun and you drink some beer and stop and
- 4:25Speaker 1: stop on a little sandbar and have some lunch and
- 4:28Speaker 1: float down the river. Yeah, it's very pleasant, very pleasant.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And I got to because I'm really terrible on the water.
- 4:36Speaker 2: What do you mean, you're terrible on the water.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm not good at what being I'm not good at
- 4:41Speaker 1: being knowing how to do water sports and or you know,
- 4:44Speaker 1: ride a paddle board or anything like that. Yeah, but
- 4:47Speaker 1: fortunately my good friend Hayes has has a raft and
- 4:52Speaker 1: he says, don't worry, Bell, I'll get you down the river.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I get you there.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so all I have to do is sit in
- 4:58Speaker 1: the in the raft and talk and turn.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I ain't seated, did you remember.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I just remained seated, and Hayes does all the work.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's the way to do it. You know. He mans
- 5:06Speaker 1: the oars and hands me a beer if I want one.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And you don't even get your own beer.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I don't have to. I'll get you down the river. Bell.
- 5:14Speaker 2: If he's doing the oars, you should be getting him
- 5:16Speaker 2: the beer.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I know, he says, Bill, Bill, I'm here to take
- 5:20Speaker 1: care of you. I said, well, thanks, Hayes, I really
- 5:22Speaker 1: appreciate it. And he was. He's the guy who was
- 5:25Speaker 1: making the pizzas at my birthday. Oh okay, that guy.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So anyway, not only does he get you down the river,
- 5:32Speaker 2: he makes your pizzas and hands your beer. Hayeses handy
- 5:35Speaker 2: to have it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Listen, Hayes made pizza that night we got when all
- 5:38Speaker 1: went back to the Airbnb, and he brought a pizza
- 5:41Speaker 1: oven down from Salt Lake in his truck. This pizza
- 5:45Speaker 1: of he knows he knows what he's doing, and he
- 5:48Speaker 1: made a whole bunches of pizzas for everybody, and they
- 5:51Speaker 1: were delicious. I went to another place in Moab that
- 5:55Speaker 1: was great. I'd never I hadn't seen it there before.
- 5:57Speaker 1: It's called the Doe Bird. And in the morning they
- 6:01Speaker 1: make donuts and uh, and they are delicious, I mean,
- 6:06Speaker 1: just great donuts and kind of interesting, you know, like
- 6:10Speaker 1: there was a pair. No, it wasn't a it was
- 6:15Speaker 1: a doughnut that had a candied pear slice on it
- 6:18Speaker 1: and it was just really good and raspberry and all
- 6:22Speaker 1: this stuff. But then they make the donuts and they
- 6:26Speaker 1: sell them out, usually by noon or so, and when
- 6:28Speaker 1: they're gone, then they start making the chicken. So that's
- 6:32Speaker 1: why it's called the dough Bird. They do they do donuts,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and then when the doughnuts are gone.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Is it dough like Simpson dough?
- 6:39Speaker 1: No, No, it's fried chicken en fried chicken. Now. I
- 6:45Speaker 1: didn't have any of the chicken, but the doughnuts were delicious,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and I would suspect I would suspect that the chicken
- 6:51Speaker 1: was also delius.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Is there a magical moment like at noon?
- 6:54Speaker 3: I didn't wear Both are available and they cut a
- 6:58Speaker 3: doughnut in half and make you a sandwich.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm not sure magical. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody
- 7:05Speaker 1: said only a light shines down crossover when the donuts
- 7:09Speaker 1: are gone, we start with it. So no, I think
- 7:11Speaker 1: there's no crossover, as they say, when the donuts are gone,
- 7:14Speaker 1: then we start making the chicken lost opportunity.
- 7:17Speaker 4: It should be. If we have a dozen donuts left,
- 7:20Speaker 4: then there's that magic moment.
- 7:21Speaker 2: You know, you could have work.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Or twelve people, only twelve people. That's you know, that's
- 7:26Speaker 3: Instagram stuff.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yes, you know I was.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And you say I was one of the twelve.
- 7:30Speaker 4: There's one of the twelve today that got the chicken donuts, and.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It's going to be a good day.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And then we always have to stop at the Moab
- 7:38Speaker 1: Rock Shop because it's.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Probably you love rock and roll.
- 7:41Speaker 1: That's why it's probably Vinyl, right, it's because my kid
- 7:44Speaker 1: loves rocks, all kinds of shiny rock plan and it's
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's all kinds of rocks, beautiful, beautiful shiny rocks and
- 7:53Speaker 1: just piles of rocks.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Did you buy any rocks?
- 7:57Speaker 1: I didn't buy any rocks, but my child, you know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: if they get a rock polisher. They can make their own.
- 8:03Speaker 1: They do some of that. Okay, oh you mean my child. Yes, uh,
- 8:08Speaker 1: it's the thought. We kind of got into that briefly,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but it's it's too uh, I don't know, it's just
- 8:16Speaker 1: it takes you put the rocks in there, and then
- 8:18Speaker 1: it just takes too long.
- 8:19Speaker 4: It's noisy.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it's noisy, and it takes too long.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Was a guy up the street from where I grew
- 8:24Speaker 3: up who did it? He did all sizes, made a
- 8:27Speaker 3: wall out of polished rocks.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, yeah, but it's those the old rock
- 8:33Speaker 1: hounders down there are interesting folks there, you know, they're
- 8:36Speaker 1: they're what you would expect them to be. Grizzled and
- 8:39Speaker 1: kind of Let me show you this one. Here's a
- 8:42Speaker 1: nice rock for.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You holding the pick axe.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, literally literally, what's that rock? I'd say, that's
- 8:53Speaker 1: a big that's the Moses Geode Moses. Yeah, well, you
- 8:57Speaker 1: crack that sucker here, I'll show you what it looks
- 8:59Speaker 1: like when it's cracked.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Got some real nice ones here in my overalls.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah I'm not not.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Oh no, wait, they're in my beard. I know what
- 9:08Speaker 4: genus picturing here?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I got rocks in my well, No, wait a minute,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I haven't changed my underwear in a while.
- 9:16Speaker 3: He's picturing stinky Peet toy story exactly what well, and
- 9:21Speaker 3: there was a guy there who looked almost like that.
