- 5:11Speaker 5: but I'm saying so to remove the flavors.
- 5:13Speaker 9: So this really but no, but this has been like
- 5:15Speaker 9: put to the side, being prepared like it was gonna
- 5:17Speaker 9: be chicken.

- 6:08Speaker 5: when you were eating ramen consistently. All right, let's focus
- 6:14Speaker 5: on what for me.
- 6:15Speaker 11: Okay, I'm gonna keep it very very very basic and
- 6:20Speaker 11: I'm gonna do some spaghetti with the signature ground turkey
- 6:23Speaker 11: that I.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Grew up that my mom used to use signature.
- 6:26Speaker 11: I mean, I guess everybody's ground turkey now, but we
- 6:29Speaker 11: when I was growing up as a kid in Chicago,
- 6:31Speaker 11: my mom she was you know, we didn't really eat
- 6:34Speaker 11: a lot of beef and pork. So years ago, in
- 6:37Speaker 11: the seventies, we ate turkey, ground turkey, turkey bacon. So
- 6:41Speaker 11: that's why my love for turkey come from. So that's
- 6:44Speaker 11: why I cook everything with not everything, but a lot.
- 6:47Speaker 11: I do a lot of other things good. But see
- 6:52Speaker 11: the streets.
- 6:54Speaker 4: The streets.
- 6:55Speaker 5: I'm sorry, you're gonna have.
- 6:58Speaker 4: The streets. What did you say?
- 7:00Speaker 2: You screamed the streets, Jerry, I'm gonna say it now,
- 7:04Speaker 2: legendary Jerry Clark scream streets.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Are you married right now? I don't want to say
- 7:10Speaker 5: that if you're married.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I'm not married, streets. I was married before. I was
- 7:19Speaker 4: married before.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Okay, the streets got streets have anything to do with
- 7:25Speaker 2: the possible ending?
- 7:28Speaker 11: No, No, not that I'm a square. I'm a quiet square, real,
- 7:33Speaker 11: a quiet square guy.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna cook.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I find that hard to believe you you're legendary and
- 7:39Speaker 2: music exact, you work with all these Southern rappers.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And yes, so what does that have to do with
- 7:46Speaker 4: me being in the streets? Colon.
- 7:48Speaker 2: By the end of the interview, I'm gonna we're gonna
- 7:50Speaker 2: determine if you if you was for the streets or
- 7:53Speaker 2: if you are a square.
- 7:54Speaker 5: We shall see no.
- 7:56Speaker 4: But you know what, technically you can be both.
- 7:59Speaker 5: You could be that's someone that's from the streets.
- 8:02Speaker 4: But say that you could beat both.
- 8:04Speaker 11: Okay, but you look, I have not to cut you
- 8:06Speaker 11: off and have some mom wheat noodles that I like
- 8:09Speaker 11: to use.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I noticed that you were very particular. What's up
- 8:12Speaker 5: with the wheat? I didn't even know they sold wheat
- 8:14Speaker 5: until you said wheat?
- 8:15Speaker 4: Come on calling you stop?
- 8:16Speaker 5: I was like, ship, how do you tell? I literally
- 8:17Speaker 5: looked at the noodles. I said, how do you tell?
- 8:19Speaker 5: Which ones are weak?
- 8:20Speaker 2: And then I saw some that look like wheat, and
- 8:22Speaker 2: I saw some that said wheat, And I said, okay,
- 8:25Speaker 2: there is such thing Colin.
- 8:26Speaker 4: You had never heard of wheat noodles.
- 8:27Speaker 5: I eat protein noodles. Have you heard of protein noodles? Exactly?
- 8:32Speaker 4: Just like you got white bread, you got wheat bread.
- 8:35Speaker 4: So it's anything you can.
- 8:37Speaker 5: You know, what's your obsession with these wheats? They taste better?
- 8:39Speaker 11: Nah, just like their little healthy And I'll eat some, mom,
- 8:43Speaker 11: I'll eat some where do you tell I'll eat some Mom,
- 8:46Speaker 11: I'll eat.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Some white noodles?
- 8:49Speaker 7: Okay?
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yes, I will.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Okay.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And you took all that spaghettiod for two yeah?
- 8:59Speaker 5: Can I die?
- 9:00Speaker 3: All right?
- 9:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:01Speaker 11: I look, I'm I'm I'm talking and cooking.
- 9:04Speaker 4: And I'm not.
- 9:05Speaker 11: I never usually do that, and I really don't cook
- 9:07Speaker 11: a lot. Feel you should?
- 9:10Speaker 4: I feel very special you should. Okay, so you definitely should.
- 9:14Speaker 5: You cook it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Take me back to what was going on during this
- 9:16Speaker 2: time of spaghetti noodles with ground turkey.
- 9:23Speaker 4: I had a very simple upbringing. Uh.
- 9:26Speaker 11: My parents were married before before my father passed in
- 9:29Speaker 11: twenty sixteen, they were married for forty five years. So
- 9:32Speaker 11: I had a good, solid upbringing. Uh, three siblings. I'm
- 9:39Speaker 11: second in the pecking order, so I watched a family
- 9:46Speaker 11: you know growing up. My mom was big into uh, well,
- 9:49Speaker 11: my parents were big into you know, having dinner. No
- 9:52Speaker 11: matter what we had, whether it was practice or you know,
- 9:56Speaker 11: moving around, we had to have dinner, whether it was
- 9:58Speaker 11: five ten minutes before we you know, every night. So
- 10:01Speaker 11: all that to say, I I came up in a
- 10:03Speaker 11: in a variant, I'm a p very appreciative of coming
- 10:06Speaker 11: up in.
- 10:07Speaker 4: A very stable, solid upbringing, cause I look at shit, now.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Shit was it middle class or oh.
- 10:14Speaker 12: No, we ain't had no money? Okay, we ain't had
- 10:16Speaker 12: no money. Okay, we was in Chicago. We moved to Oxville, Tennese.
- 10:20Speaker 12: For a quick minute, and then we moved down south. Well,
- 10:24Speaker 12: we moved farther south to Atlanta.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Okay, And.
- 10:29Speaker 11: That was the best decision my parents could have ever made,
- 10:31Speaker 11: because I loved this city. It was I you know,
- 10:34Speaker 11: of course, being a black Mecca. I was able to
- 10:36Speaker 11: go to high school here and just really grow okay
- 10:39Speaker 11: and spread my wings. And here I am in this
- 10:42Speaker 11: great city of Atlanta City here with you, Colaid, cooking
- 10:46Speaker 11: some spaghetti with ground turkey.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Did the economics change in your family when they moved
- 10:52Speaker 2: to Atlanta?
- 10:53Speaker 5: Also?
- 10:53Speaker 4: Yes, yes, now it did get better than in Chicago.
- 10:55Speaker 4: We didn't have no money. Knoxville, we didn't have no money.
- 10:58Speaker 11: But when we gave them Atlanta things, you know, got
- 11:01Speaker 11: a lot better financially for my parents. So of course,
- 11:03Speaker 11: you know that made a big difference.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Were your parents in the industry in any capacity?
- 11:08Speaker 11: No, No, but my uncle was, uh, the late Gray
- 11:11Speaker 11: Stanley Bethel was. He was in the music business, and
- 11:16Speaker 11: that was my first foray into the music business cause
- 11:19Speaker 11: he used to take me to the different conventions, the
- 11:22Speaker 11: Jack the Rapper conventions, br conventions, Impact, and I just
- 11:27Speaker 11: fell in love with To be honest, I first fell
- 11:30Speaker 11: in love with the glamory and the glitz of just
- 11:32Speaker 11: being in the mix and being around him.
- 11:36Speaker 4: He taught me a lot because he.
- 11:38Speaker 11: Was in the industry for years, and he used to
- 11:41Speaker 11: tell me, and I got to see it from myself
- 11:43Speaker 11: that this fit is very fickle and phony, but you
- 11:47Speaker 11: have to find something to keep you grounding.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Lex And from poor minds is in the building. I'm
- 12:06Speaker 2: really excited to have you both, and I'm more excited
- 12:09Speaker 2: about what I'm about to eat.
- 12:11Speaker 5: So what are you about to cook up?
- 12:14Speaker 6: Okay, So today we're gonna be making some rowtail dip,
- 12:18Speaker 6: which I feel like is like a staple in black family.
- 12:21Speaker 9: It is.
- 12:22Speaker 6: It really is, like we make it for the baby showers,
- 12:25Speaker 6: football games, birthday parties, everything.
- 12:29Speaker 12: Growing up.
- 12:29Speaker 6: My mom used to always make these, my aunts, my
- 12:32Speaker 6: uncles was at every family gathering.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Okay, I've actually never had the rotail dip. Really really excited.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I saw a bunch of cheese and guey stuff.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Huh, and I was happy. I was happy. I'm with it.
- 12:44Speaker 5: So what are all the ingredients in the rotail dip?
- 12:48Speaker 10: So rotael is it's a cheese dip essentially, So you
- 12:52Speaker 10: gotta have your velvey to cheese. You got your cream cheese.
- 12:55Speaker 10: We have Italian sausage. You can use any kind of
- 12:58Speaker 10: meat that you want to brown beef, but we.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Use Italian and it's the Turkey Italian Italian sauce is.
- 13:03Speaker 10: So we have onions, you know, whatever kind of dresses
- 13:06Speaker 10: you like, So you kind of look at it as
- 13:08Speaker 10: like a fancy kind of taco dip. So you really
- 13:11Speaker 10: can throw whatever you want person in there. This is
- 13:14Speaker 10: just what we like in ours.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I like to use a few different cheeses. Some
- 13:18Speaker 6: people just like to use just Belvita by itself. But
- 13:22Speaker 6: I have cream cheese, Velveta and pepper jack cheese.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Okay, see I don't know what that green pepper is
- 13:28Speaker 5: called valpo. And then you have these what are these
- 13:33Speaker 5: green ones?
- 13:34Speaker 6: Green chili, green chilies and the tomatoes, and then that's tomatoes.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Okay, are you cooking all of those ingredients? Yes, okay,
- 13:42Speaker 5: well I'm gonna cook.
- 13:43Speaker 6: I'm gonna actually like kind of well, I don't know.
- 13:46Speaker 6: I'm probably not gonna saltate actually, but I'm just gonna
- 13:49Speaker 6: put it all in once the cheese is melted.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Okay, I'm excited. So get to get to cook in
- 13:59Speaker 2: even breakfast nothing.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Okay, it's gonna.
- 14:01Speaker 10: Be a good little line.
- 14:02Speaker 5: It is.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Okay, So I'm gonna cook the meat first, so let
- 14:06Speaker 6: me go ahead and turn this on.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Okay, man, I played y'all because usually I try to
- 14:12Speaker 2: preheat the heaters before you guys start, So it's like,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I don't.
- 14:16Speaker 10: Know, authentic the whole process. People being in the comments
- 14:21Speaker 10: asking every little thing, well, what did you put this on?
- 14:24Speaker 5: What is right? So now y'all can see they see
- 14:26Speaker 5: it by stuff.
- 14:27Speaker 10: It's on medium heat, y'all.
- 14:30Speaker 6: So do we have any like butter or oil or
- 14:34Speaker 6: cooking spray?
- 14:35Speaker 5: You know what the most I have is that butter.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Okay, this will works.
- 14:38Speaker 5: It's so funny because I saw it and I said,
- 14:40Speaker 5: they don't need butter.
- 14:41Speaker 3: A little bit, just a little.
- 14:43Speaker 10: Were from the South, we put we want the fattiest
- 14:46Speaker 10: and everything.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I live and die by butter. I go through like
- 14:49Speaker 2: a stick every two days. Really, it's terrible.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Did you ever go through a phase where you ate butter?
- 14:55Speaker 2: My two year old is actively using butter like it's
- 14:58Speaker 2: a snickers. Really, she like coming to kids and should
- 15:01Speaker 2: be like butter. She dips your little fingers in it.
- 15:02Speaker 2: She'll bite it like that's crazy. And then I'll see
- 15:05Speaker 2: her and I have this face of like, and then
- 15:07Speaker 2: she'll look at me.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Like when I was younger.
- 15:12Speaker 10: I got really really sick one day, and my mom
- 15:14Speaker 10: and my sister they were so confused. And while I
- 15:16Speaker 10: was sick, and then my mom went to the sink
- 15:19Speaker 10: and she saw because I used to eat butter and
- 15:21Speaker 10: rice together, you.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Did, yes, And I had put like a whole stick
- 15:24Speaker 5: of butter.
- 15:25Speaker 10: And I was so sick. And she went to the
- 15:26Speaker 10: sink and saw this bowl and it just had butter,
- 15:30Speaker 10: this stick caked on the bottle. She's like, that's why
- 15:32Speaker 10: your ass you can get from it. I mean, I
- 15:34Speaker 10: guess because I ate so much. One city, like I
- 15:38Speaker 10: just I was not feeling good.
- 15:39Speaker 5: I'm not gonna lie.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I'm one of those parents like I give into everything
- 15:42Speaker 2: my daughter does. So when she's like screaming for butter,
- 15:45Speaker 2: I'm like, you know what, just handed to it, I'm like,
- 15:47Speaker 2: you ain't nothing else. So but I never let my
- 15:50Speaker 2: friends hear that, because my friends be always checking my
- 15:52Speaker 2: parents and like, yo, she running you, And I'll be like,
- 15:55Speaker 2: so I.
- 15:55Speaker 10: Be handling your baby a stick of butter is crazy.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Sometimes sometimes I gotta do what I got, what you want,
- 16:05Speaker 2: but I do it in silence.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I've never confessed that to anyone. I'm sure, like, pick
- 16:10Speaker 5: a butter in your purse? Just I really should?
- 16:17Speaker 3: You know?
- 16:19Speaker 10: Nah, But I let her.
- 16:20Speaker 5: I'll let her.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I'll let her take off a little piece of butter,
- 16:22Speaker 2: a little whatever is left, you know.
- 16:24Speaker 5: But in my mind, you know, one of my other
- 16:27Speaker 5: homegirls said that, I'm like, look, man, he don't eat nothing.
- 16:30Speaker 5: At this point.
- 16:31Speaker 2: If she wants donuts for breakfast, I'm with it, like
- 16:34Speaker 2: calorie is a calorie because it's.
- 16:36Speaker 10: Better than having right, that's true, that's true.
- 16:40Speaker 6: I understand that it was a very peaky eater as
- 16:43Speaker 6: a child, so I totally understand.
- 16:44Speaker 3: But this is one of the things that I love.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I was I was a skinny mini person, and
- 16:51Speaker 2: I feel like this is God's way of punishing me.
- 16:54Speaker 5: All the taxes my mom told.
- 16:56Speaker 2: To try to get us to gain weight, and now
- 16:59Speaker 2: I get to experience what it's like to watch your
- 17:01Speaker 2: kid never eat. Yeah, but take me back to what
- 17:04Speaker 2: was going on in the air of roadtel did.
- 17:08Speaker 8: My parents came from Mexico and we always ate Metxican
- 17:11Speaker 8: food every single day, and my mom was a homemaker.
- 17:14Speaker 8: But when mom was in the kitchen cooking and we
- 17:17Speaker 8: were hungry or would have you, we had to go
- 17:18Speaker 8: to the fridge. She was left over what have you?
- 17:20Speaker 8: But this right here is what we turned to. Like
- 17:23Speaker 8: after school, we're hungry, can't wait till dinner? Is some
- 17:27Speaker 8: cheap bread, the most non nutritious bread on the planet,
- 17:32Speaker 8: white bread. There was a place called Weber's in San Fernando,
- 17:36Speaker 8: and being with eleven kids my parents, it was like
- 17:39Speaker 8: on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, they would sell the day old
- 17:42Speaker 8: bread for ten cents a loaf, and they had bunches
- 17:45Speaker 8: of it. So, for example, my mom would go with
- 17:48Speaker 8: a buck a dollar and buy like ten loaves of bread.
- 17:51Speaker 8: But that only lasts about a week. Yes, you got it,
- 17:55Speaker 8: So we would buy Weber's Bread back then. I don't
- 17:57Speaker 8: even know if they're still, you know, in business, but
- 18:00Speaker 8: Wonder was the second choice, and then Skippy was. Luckily
- 18:06Speaker 8: for us, we got to have a name brand peanut butter.
- 18:08Speaker 8: I don't know why, because most everything in the house
- 18:11Speaker 8: was the cheapest we could find.
- 18:12Speaker 5: That's what my thea cereal.
- 18:14Speaker 8: All invitation cereals. When the government was given the powdered
- 18:18Speaker 8: milk and the government cheese. You never thought you would
- 18:22Speaker 8: get tired of real cheese, but yeah, we got tired
- 18:25Speaker 8: of it because they used to give it in big
- 18:26Speaker 8: old blocks. But anyway, so here we are. But this
- 18:30Speaker 8: is the one that is my favorite. This is something
- 18:33Speaker 8: that my daughter made and it's a marmalade, a lemon marmalade.
- 18:37Speaker 8: And my daughter cooks, and my mother's no longer with us.
- 18:39Speaker 8: She was a homemaker. She cooked from scratch every day,
- 18:42Speaker 8: and she actually would make a lot of things from scratch.
- 18:45Speaker 8: She would in frascot you say it in Spanish. She
- 18:48Speaker 8: would jar things, pickle this, and pickle that, and jar this.
- 18:51Speaker 8: So she actually used to make some jelly once in
- 18:53Speaker 8: a while. If we had all the ingredients, she'd get inspired.
- 18:56Speaker 8: I'm gonna make some jelly strawberry what have you?
- 18:59Speaker 12: So?
- 18:59Speaker 5: Were any of your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches just
- 19:01Speaker 5: peanut butter and bread?
- 19:02Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I was.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I was nervous when Gabriella brought the big peanut butter
- 19:08Speaker 2: and the wonderbread. I was like, oh my gosh, we're
- 19:11Speaker 2: not gonna have jelly today. And then I was happy
- 19:14Speaker 2: to see the jar of marmalade. I've never had this soul,
- 19:18Speaker 2: not the peanut butter. I've never had the marmalade. So
- 19:20Speaker 2: let's go ahead and start.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Doing peanut butter and jelly, the og classic.
- 19:26Speaker 8: All right, let's start with some bread.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So I'm just curious, out of those eleven eleven of
- 19:32Speaker 2: you guys, how many of you guys were boys?
- 19:35Speaker 8: It was almost even as even as you can get.
- 19:38Speaker 8: It was six girls, five boys. I'm the youngest. All
- 19:42Speaker 8: the girls got all the brains and looks in the family,
- 19:45Speaker 8: and us boys we had to kind of like deal
- 19:48Speaker 8: with what we got. But no, I say that because
- 19:52Speaker 8: I love my sisters. I love my brothers. But my
- 19:54Speaker 8: sister used to help me with my math homework. I
- 19:57Speaker 8: became an engineer, but back in those days. My sisters
- 20:01Speaker 8: were born in the forties and fifties, so by the
- 20:04Speaker 8: time they were graduating from high school, it was the
- 20:06Speaker 8: sixties and society and even my parents went along with it,
- 20:10Speaker 8: were convincing them that they should just get married and
- 20:12Speaker 8: you get a husband who'll take care of you. My
- 20:14Speaker 8: sisters could have all gone and got PhDs and things
- 20:17Speaker 8: of that nature. So it really pains me to know
- 20:19Speaker 8: that the person who helped me with my math helped
- 20:23Speaker 8: me when I was struggling and I became an engineer,
- 20:25Speaker 8: she didn't become an engineer and things like that.
- 20:28Speaker 5: So your sisters essentially ended up.
- 20:33Speaker 8: Well, no, look, they have a wonderful life. They have
- 20:36Speaker 8: beautiful children, you know them and their husbands would go
- 20:40Speaker 8: to work and they everybody was able to own a
- 20:43Speaker 8: home on first generation. My generation is first generation college
- 20:48Speaker 8: on both sides of my family. My mother and father
- 20:50Speaker 8: are from Demastian Hali School Meeko, which is this little
- 20:53Speaker 8: dirt town. When they were little boys and girls, there
- 20:56Speaker 8: were no formal schools like we have here in the
- 20:58Speaker 8: United States. When they got married, my father being twenty
- 21:04Speaker 8: my mother being eighteen, they looked around and said, well,
- 21:07Speaker 8: nothing's changed. If we want the next generation to have opportunities,
- 21:10Speaker 8: we got to get out of here. So they came
- 21:12Speaker 8: to California and then stayed here. You know, had us
- 21:16Speaker 8: eleven kids until they passed away. So this is what
- 21:19Speaker 8: we made for ourselves. My mom made a stack of
- 21:22Speaker 8: homemade tortillas every single day, a big pot of beans
- 21:25Speaker 8: every single day, made some fresh rice and something else.
- 21:29Speaker 8: That was the traditional food in our household. It was
- 21:32Speaker 8: a third dish. And then rice and beans and tortillas.
- 21:36Speaker 8: That was a staple every day.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 21:38Speaker 5: And then was it like meat was the.
- 21:41Speaker 8: Luxury of yes, exactly, that was the third dish. It
- 21:43Speaker 8: was either some chicken or some.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Ohated some kind.
- 21:47Speaker 8: Yeah. Well the thing is, let me clarify. We never
- 21:52Speaker 8: lacked for what we needed in our home. Our mother
- 21:56Speaker 8: and father, my mom stayed at home. That was the deal.
- 21:59Speaker 8: They got married, high tailed it over here to California,
- 22:02Speaker 8: and my mother and father made a deal that my
- 22:05Speaker 8: mom mom wouldn't work outside the home, she would stay
- 22:08Speaker 8: home and be a homemaker, and my dad would work work, work,
- 22:11Speaker 8: and my dad, his average week was a six day
- 22:13Speaker 8: work week. And so my mom was an amazing cook,
- 22:18Speaker 8: thank god. But she made large quantities of everything every day.
- 22:23Speaker 8: But what we're eating here is what we used to
- 22:25Speaker 8: make for ourselves as kids.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Eleven kids, though, is like she I don't even think
- 22:30Speaker 2: even if she sort of even like, even if we
- 22:33Speaker 2: were intoday's times, if she wanted to go to work.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Eleven kids, is you need one parent to stay right?
- 22:39Speaker 4: Oh my god?
- 22:40Speaker 8: Today a big family is you know, three four kids,
- 22:42Speaker 8: and that's more than a handful. And you know, I
- 22:45Speaker 8: constantly speak respectfully of my parents because I remember growing
- 22:51Speaker 8: up there were some people that when we're in the supermarket,
- 22:53Speaker 8: you know, there's three or four trailing my mom and
- 22:55Speaker 8: we're sitting at the checking stand, and I could understand English.
- 22:58Speaker 8: My mom and dad understood very very little English, and
- 23:01Speaker 8: I could I could hear the words of disrespect that
- 23:04Speaker 8: they spoke of my mom, like, you know, talking in
- 23:07Speaker 8: English to the other checker, like, oh, can you believe
- 23:10Speaker 8: how many kids or what have you? You know, they
- 23:12Speaker 8: probably can't even afford them, and stuff like that. But
- 23:14Speaker 8: that's not true. We never lacked for food. My parents
- 23:19Speaker 8: bought a home in nineteen fifty five and raised the
- 23:21Speaker 8: soul in that home until they passed away. So yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 8: I'm very very protective of the image that people have.
- 23:29Speaker 8: Immigrants come to this country and they have a bunch
- 23:31Speaker 8: of kids, and those kids are a bunch of good
- 23:33Speaker 8: for nothings or a bunch of troublemakers. N uh Not.
- 23:36Speaker 8: One of us eleven kids growing up in Pacoima, not
- 23:40Speaker 8: the you know, it's a low income community, a lot
- 23:43Speaker 8: of beautiful families there. Not one of us ever ended
- 23:46Speaker 8: up in a gang. Not one of us ever ended up,
- 23:49Speaker 8: you know, in the backseat of a police car. So
- 23:51Speaker 8: you know, to my parents, you know, and one of.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You guys ended up, Yeah, changing a lot for the community.
- 23:57Speaker 8: Yeah, well, yes, I say this one once in a while.
- 24:02Speaker 8: I speak truthfully about if you asked my brothers and
- 24:05Speaker 8: sisters when they were you know, when I was like
- 24:09Speaker 8: eight ten years old, and you asked them right down
- 24:11Speaker 8: on a piece of paper, where do you think Tony's
- 24:13Speaker 8: gonna end up? They probably would have said some not
- 24:17Speaker 8: mean things, but accurate things like, I don't know, he's
- 24:20Speaker 8: a big trouble maker, you know, he's I had the
- 24:23Speaker 8: hottest temper of all my brothers and sisters. I was
- 24:26Speaker 8: the one you could light me as like a match.
- 24:28Speaker 8: I was the one that would bawl my fist up
- 24:30Speaker 8: before I would think about what I'm gonna say. So
- 24:33Speaker 8: God is good because they gave me ten older brothers
- 24:36Speaker 8: and sisters to help keep me in line, and I
- 24:38Speaker 8: needed every single one of them. They gave me two
- 24:40Speaker 8: parents who were as strict as can be, so had
- 24:43Speaker 8: I not had the upbringing that I was given and
- 24:46Speaker 8: afforded by two amazing parents who were strict, ten brothers
- 24:50Speaker 8: and sisters were like, Oh, you can't do that. I
- 24:52Speaker 8: can't let you do that problem.
